20 Best Masters Programs In Buffalo, NY (2022 Updated)

I considered D'Youville College for my Post 9/11 GI Bill graduate program. I ultimately picked another school which offered the degree I was interested in. By happenstance I spent my last semester of my studies at D'Youville. Wow, what a difference. While other schools pay lip service to Veterans, D'Youville is putting their money where their mouth is. At other schools, despite what they say, Vets are simply another number, a commodity they are anxious to attract for the easy money, but once enrolled, these Vets are quickly forgotten. A single staff member will be assigned Vets as a collateral duty, one of many hats they wear. D'Youville on the other hand has a staff of dedicated personnel whose sole job is to take care of Vets. Instead of being referred elsewhere, D'Youville gets resolution to any and all issues that their Vets encounter. They know how to successfully navigate the Veteran's Administration, as well as New York State benefits (e.g. Veterans Tuition Awards). Not only do they educate **ALLL** Vets (not simply limited the Gold Ribbon qualified Vets), but they also offer generous incentives for Vets' spouses and dependents. I been working in a community health program with the School of Nursing and Pharmarcy. My interaction wtih both students and professors has been excellent, and have surpass my expectations in wiliness to serve the community. About the D'Youville social life, this is a small college and their social life is during lunch time in Spot Coffee, which is located in the basement. In short, the DYC is good for those who want to focus in their studies and have theirs social life somewhere else because you will not find crazy frat parties in here.alice campbell

College offers a great PA program, but beware that contacting the admission office and tracking different components of your application is painstakingly uncoordinated. Personally had to remind and contact multiple admission counselors about my application and still had a hard time getting them to contact me back regarding genuine questions with ambiguity of the application.Sougandhika Bharadwaj

If I could put no stars I would. Okay so I was doing pretty well in the college at first all A's and B's everything was going great! Until I ended up having to help out with rent so I had to get a job, and being a mother also I am one of the few who would NOT want to put that much stress (job, kids, and school) on myself. So I call them and tell tell whoever (if only I remembered her name) my situation and how I won't be able to attend anymore, and she ends up asking me all these questions like why am I withdrawing and questions that shouldn't really be asked because she didn't even say it's policy or anything, she just wanted to know. So I tell her I'm starting my new job soon and she asked me the one question that just actually made me done with her, she asked, "Are you sure you're not able to do all 3?" as in all 3 she means taking care of my child, going to work, and going to school. Let that sink in. It actually made me even more frustrated because she was telling me that if I did now it would cost a lot to pay back, but listen if I have to withdraw I have to. There's no 'Are you sure you want to?' So they said they'd call and tell me the rest of the details so we can get through with the withdrawal process and I haven't gotten a call yet but what I did get was an attendance email from Outlook telling me that I won't be able for eligibility for my financial aid if I miss 14 days. Wow. So, I'm going to call them now because this is ridiculous and I do not have time. But if you do go to this school, please be careful. i know that other people will have a better experience or whatever. But this is not one of them.AiKitty Chan

I was excited to start my online career here. However the guy in admissions that was assigned to me was not for me. He was not personable at all I only spoke to him one time and that was for five minutes he never explained anything just said he will send me an email if assessments that was it never heard from him again I tried email him several times never received a email or a phone call until five day later stating to complete more assessments I had questions and he did not answer them . I tried calling to see if I could get someone new they said no I had to work with him. 1. They don’t offer free counseling to students. I can’t imagine a university not caring about their students mental health 2. The bus schedule to pick students up to bring them to the university is unclear and the coach for Soccer said she never sees it either 3. You don’t have a credit union. Many students don’t have credit and credit unions are a great/safe way to help students open up into that world. UW Green Bay has all of these things. When you’re looking for a job they don’t care if you go to a private college or not. Your experience trumps everything, so consider that before applying.Blue Lagoon

Hands down the most unprofessional college I've ever attended. The head of admissions will lie to you in order to get you to sign their paperwork (She'll say literally anything.) Then, my cousin and I were told we could apply for a work study. After being told to ask one person after the next, we finally were informed first semester students aren't allowed to do work studies. I was given a run around when I told them I wanted to withdraw and attend a better college. Thankfully, I'm wrapping up my bachelor's elsewhere. Three years in a row they haven't sent me my tax information, I've called them regarding it and they keep insisting they did send it. I am paying off my high interest loan from there and they take 3 weeks to cash my check every time. They ripped off myself, my cousin, and three of my friends so far. I cannot in good conscience recommend bryant & stratton. Every program they offer is available at other colleges at a better price.Alec Frampton

While working in the Staffing industry I worked with Bryant and Stratton College for recruiting purposes. The entire staff, mainly Stephen Makosy was always helpful to include me with job fairs, forwarding resumes and keeping me informed on any new programs or events that might be helpful to for my needs. He was always anxious to get students to work or internships. After my staffing days, I volunteered with Susan G. Komen and again I called on Bryant & Stratton College and Stephen to help spread the word about Susan G. I am an emeritus professor of biology and having worked at SUNY Buffalo State for more than 30 years, and still working there as a Research Professor, I can say that the Butler Library is one of the bright stars on campus. The book and journal collections are small and restricted by budgets and by the presence of UB dominating the library universe in Buffalo. However I am very seldom thwarted in my searches and access to the latest science literature. The electronic and web based resources are outstanding. I attribute much of this to Maryruth Glogowski the former director of the library and one of the forward-looking administrators on campus. When I came to the College the resources were extremely limited and the service was not "user friendly." The current situation is amazing compared to what it was 30 years ago.Doug Easton

I went to Canisius for a 4 year triple major and I really enjoyed it. The classes are small and the professors actually care. It has a great business program, but there are a lot of gen-ed prereqs that you need to take which is somewhat of a shame. Highly recommend getting involved with groups and clubs though. Networking is one of the best things you can do. You will have some professors taking attendance, and I know, sounds a bit weird for college (especially because you are the one paying), but it only furthers the fact that the professors care. All of the professors have their doctorates and many have real-world business experience which is a big plus. Since graduating, I still keep in-touch with a few professors. You'll get as much out of it as you put in. If you try and sit back and be invisible, you won't get as much out of it. If you're actually active and participate in class, you're going to have a good and positive experience. I would recommend Canisius. Have made many life-long friendships with students as well as professors. Get involved though!Alex Bass

I am currently enrolled in the Graduate Education program at Canisius, seeking a Masters in English Education as well as an advanced TESOL certificate. I am writing this review because these reviews weighed heavily when I was deciding which program to attend last year. The teachers I have had here are all touch notch. They go above and beyond to make sure we have the tools we need to be effective in the classroom: a classroom that is becoming more diverse and challenging. Canisius is a college that cares about you as a person. They take into consideration your personal circumstances and really advocate for your success through how they put theory into practice. Not only are the teachers always available to help; but administration as well. I attended Boston College undergrad so I was also looking for the Jesuit spirit as well…I found it here. Hands down I would recommend this school. I am seeking dual certification – Ontario & NY – Canisius will help you with this process.daisy cook

I am a Canisius graduate of 2013 and I do not regret going to this school. To get the most out of this school, you have to know certain people. These people are the professors, your classmates, and maybe the staff that make the food ;). In all seriousness, the classes were small and the professors were willing to help. This college has resources at your disposal so do not be afraid to use them. Now, it is an expensive school so keep that in mind, but the programs are fantastic. Just keep in mind that it is near the East Side and some neighborhoods are not so good. During the day you will be fine walking through them but at night I would keep an eye out and check your surroundings if you are walking around them. Other than that, have fun!Argi Hispanic American

Attended a women’s volleyball match here. The student section was full of the most ignorant and disrespectful students I’ve ever witnessed at a game. The use of foul and derogatory language they used towards the visiting team was offensive and completely unacceptable. This section of students was confronted by college staff once for this behavior, but to no avail as it continued throughout the match. A truly disgusting display. I certainly hope this is investigated and punishment is handed out. We were in complete shock, and honestly feared for our safety.Griffin

I am 100% judging a book by its cover with this institution, from the outside it does not look well-funded. I would not have been surprised if I had found out that the entire place had gone belly Up and they were waiting for someone to buy it up as a church camp or something. However, my daughter's dance recital was there and the auditorium was actually pretty nice and modern. So whereas before I would have given it one star, I am going to give it three stars now and say that it probably deserves greater examination before judging it much more than that.Matt Pierson

Pros: Student-to-teacher ratio is roughly 14-to-1. Professors have PLENTY of stories and real world experience to share. Lots of personal interaction between students and faculty/staff. Excellent reputation as a criminal justice college. Very supportive of law enforcement. Cons: Career center is essentially useless. Expensive for what you get in return. As an alumni, they will call to hit you up for donations every so-often, even though you are still probably paying back the student loans you had to take out to go there.Aaron Senseney

SAVE YOUR MONEY!! They give a scholarship to every dunce that walks through the door, to make it seem like a great deal to loop more people in to going. I originally signed up for a bachelor's degree and realized I really wasn't a fan of this college. I wanted to switch to an associate's degree to get out sooner instead of completely withdrawing from the college and was told that wasn't an option?(don't see that happening at a suny school) So I could either suffer there for 4 full years or just quit. I chose the latter. Also was attending during covid and they were not prepared or flexible at all with online learning. They expected me to learn comparative anatomy online with a teacher who wasn't equipped to teach it ( lots of first year professors, makes me think working there is just as bad as being a student) Awful experience, they build the school up alot but it really is mediocre. You get less opportunities and flexibility for 30,000 a year. Also the parking situation is a joke, to pay that much money and have to park at the zoo lmao. Instead of building a million dollar sports complex why not another parking lot first?????!?? Save your money go to a state college!!!Izzy Rayne

Please please please save your money. The internship program here is a nightmare. People in the same degree as me are graduating with very different requirements, for instance, my professor in charge of internships needs 240 hours and two jobs, other students are graduating with 30, 60, 80, 300 etc. The requirements are not given to you in the handbook and it is very confusing. The buildings are deteriorating from old age and the school does not fix it. Windows do not open and close, it’s hot in up stairs classroom, classes are unbearably boring, the professors constantly argue with the board of the directors, and the school was charged with embezzlement a year or two ago. Please please please consider another option, taking a gap year to think about your future and education, trade school, or another small college. Also medaille’s small size works against it in my opinion, the classes are too small to find friends with similar interests, no one talks to each other, and there are not many clubs to join. They don’t even have a ski club, what school in buffalo doesn’t have that?? I could go on but it’s unnecessary, please save your money AND TIME. <3C Woe

Medaille College: quirky, small, landlocked, connected, brilliant. I do not think I could have made a better choice. Communications (Media) is one of the most volatile and unpredictable career fields in the world; it also happens to be my major. Had I chosen another school for this study I would more than likely be studying either a specific field like radio or promotions or I could be in a theory-based curriculum. By choosing Medaille I open up a world of possibilities to myself because we are not limited to one field or another. In one year I acted in countless videos, produced and directed many myself, formulated advertising and promotional campaigns, and wrote many a news article. I did a good amount of this in our Radio and TV Studios and with total access to a staff of professors who have experience in their field. If you're serious about your future then you should have Medaille on your radar.Ryan DePaolo

I was pursuing a bachelors degree there for Graphics Design, and through the course of my studies must say this school is perhaps the most disorganized. They have little to no contact/ communication with other departments. Transferring from another college with a 3.98 GPA and an associates degree felt like it afforded me little to no time off the whole bachelors degree. The financial aid department is a joke, literally they will tell you they are not your financial "babysitters" when asking for assistance and clarification on your aid. If you request a review of work being done and you feel was unfairly graded by a professor there are no means to seek, no one to talk to. All in all, don't waste your time. Definitely not a cheap school to attend, as they have hidden fees that cannot be circumvented, even if you don't use the particular activities they charge you for (unlike other schools like UB where they will drop any unnecessary activity fee if not being used). Two weeks to my starting my second from the last semester (after I contacted the financial aid office) notified I need to get a private loan otherwise I owe and be able to finish my last semester, two weeks prior to starting mind you. Awful school… immature peers, if you are a person who is motivated and determined to succeed.. this isn’t the place for you. My experience was awful! I was picked on, got bullied on and when I reported it nothing was done. It was so bad that a woman who was by the name of Ms. Marshall did nothing to reprimand the students who were bullying me. Instead the lady waited for me to leave the school to turn back and put a stay away order in my file and made it seem like she was doing her job before I left the school but blamed me for everything. Horrible experience…. I would never ever come here again ..The public safety is also uneducated, instead of understanding the facts. Nice brain museum inside. I contacted a month in advance to secure entrance. The museum is actually the one room, but has a lot of very nice specimens if you are interested in that kind of thing. Also has an Alzheimers specimen, some thin seconds, some models, and some artwork. The labels are very informative.Brad Caldwell

Over the last few years, the teachers seem to have completely stopped caring about students or their well-being. I have seen teachers blatantly say they want to be home, I have seen teachers show loads of favoritism and prejudice, and I have seen teachers who clearly show they can teach layed off, in favor of teachers that make the school seem diverse. The building is constantly crawling with bugs, and a majority of students there act as if they're entitled, because of the reputation the school has.middle school hem

I golf here pretty often. The course is in decent shape in my opinion. Here are the problems: Too many leagues- if you want to play after work during the week, good luck. There are a lot of leagues that play which make it hard to get out there around 4-5, unless you want to wait 15 minutes to tee off at each hole. They should really have non-league players start at 10 while he leagues (who only play 9) start at 1. Not sure who makes the rules for this place, but that should be looked at. All but one staff member are amazing; they’re down to earth, nice and really work with you to get you out on the course, especially if you don’t have a tee time. One staff member is unfriendly, and way too much of a rule hardo for a 12$ per round (at twilight hr) course; sometime rude (demeanor) too. The classic “one bad apple spoils the bunch”. The staff member makes me not want to play there anymore, and I pray every time I show up they are not working so I don’t have to deal with them. Again, the rest of the staff are truly friendly and I enjoy seeing them when I play there.Nicholas Ferry

I love the golf course and I love the price after 5:30, but the cashier that worked last nice was an absolute jerk. First off, he tried telling me I couldn't go out when there was no one on the course. If it were not for the other two amazing workers I see all the time there I wouldn't have been able to golf, as I do every Tuesday. (Not Anymore after this experience). He was super short with me even though he was letting me golf. Again, only because the other gentlemen recognized me and my group. He accused me of stealing when I grabbed a pen off the desk and replaced it to the same spot I got it from. Maybe its because my skin was darker than his was. I’ve been here 2 times and both times were bad experiences and the course was not well maintained and always seems drenched in water. The only part of the course that I enjoyed were the greens. They were different, well designed and challenging. This course may have been great at one point in time when it held the US Open in 1912 but over the 108 years since it has only gone downhill.joe lepertine

This program was life changing! I heard about it during my undergrad Honors Convocation, and it was the perfect moment. I had no idea what I was doing with my life next, and attending this Graduate Program meant the world to me. Disabled from a car accident, creativity gave me back my ability to excel at a faster rate, and not have to worry so much about my limitations. It opened up a new path to the PhD program that I am in now, and helped me to organize, brainstorm, and implement my future while making sure to clarify, ideate, develop BEFORE I try to IMPLEMENT my ideas! It was good until we started realizing these people are really money hungry. You always have to pay for everything. I literally mean everything. You would think the amount of money we give this company there would be some free insensitive’s but there wasn’t. Things are just not mentioned in the initial signing up process when they should have been. We shouldn’t know down the line that you have to continuously pay for belt testing and other tournaments. So add another $100 to what you already pay or even more. Just depends on how many kids you have. I will never forget the day when my kids didn’t bring a guest so they wasn’t allowed to go trick or treating with the other kids who brought a guess. I absolutely lost my mind, and immediately took my kids out the program. How could you do that to innocent children? I guess the kids that bring in guess that will possible sign up, and make the company more money gets the best rewards. When we are still paying every month faithfully. What do we get? I don't know where I would be in my life without Master Khechen's. This facility has changed my life by becoming my life. I started training in 2001 when I was 11 because I was overweight. Not only did Martial Arts training help me stay healthy and fit, but it turned into a skill that I was able to focus my young time, energy, and attention on. I started training every day of the week, then started helping classes, then started teaching, and now I am the Head Instructor at the school. What an amazing journey it has been and I feel so blessed that I have had such amazing opportunities. I’ve been a member of Master Khechen’s since 2011, and I have continued to love it. The instructors are amazing. They are supportive, positive, encouraging, and some of the best people I know.
