And as you can see most reviews are "google user" so I wouldn't be surprise if the staff is actually rating the school themselves, but this school is horrible. The staff is rude, unprofessional, and could care less about the overall wellbeing of the students as long as you pay tuition. The campus police are nonexistent they partake in activities I'm almost positive should not be happening. One of my friends was assaulted and the swept the case under the rug, never filed documents, and never followed up with the case. The financial aid staff takes money from out-of-state students and applies it to in-state students accounts (ie. workstudy, loans, etc.) because that is 90% of their student population. The department staff never answer phones, emails, and their office hours are false advertisement. The bursars office has lost money and payments sent to them and their reply is "sorry" followed by never answering the phones again. They have personally lost housing payments of mine 2 years straight which resulted in me losing housing and or paying double. This school almost lost its accreditation and really they should have because half of the students don't go to class but the professors past them anyway because of their "friendships." This is by far one of the biggest mistakes and bad choices I have ever made in my life. Had I known the undermining and the unprofessionalism this school advocates I would have never committed to it. I have been here since my freshman year and due to their "credit equivalency" scheme I could not transfer. The tuition is definitely not worth the education you are paying for. The professors are more concerned with being "cool" then actually teaching and the administration staff is more concerned with being paid then actually helping the student body. I hate the school after graduating I never will return (Now I understand why Oprah didn't), I hate the staff, and the president has yet to follow up the duties of Dr. Shields who I believe made the biggest changes now TSU is back where it started from since her departure. I graduated here back in Fall 2017 with my BBA in Accounting. It's a rocky road dealing with staff; even during slow times outside of registration. I used to work in the college system, so I understand the workflow of how I am supposed to handle being a student (which offices to go to for help, who to ask help from, keeping track of specific documents I need to turn in, etc.). However, it was difficult to get help when needed. Some staff can be very rude and unhelpful if they ever answered their phone/email. I would also go to the main campus offices to try to talk to someone, and there were several occurrences where offices would be randomly closed without putting it in their voicemail or webpage. This is not helpful when you work full-time and have to take off work to go to campus. Aside from the nightmarish organization of student services, this is a really great university! Most of my professors were very passionate about their teaching, and actually showed willingness to help you if you are struggling or congratulate you if you are doing well. Going into upper-level accounting courses were tough, but rewarding, and I felt like the professors and classmates were there to support me all the way. What's also great about this university is how affordable it is. I managed to graduate here with no student loans. It's hard, but doable. I also appreciate the accreditation is the same as other local large universities. So if you are looking for an affordable and good university, check out TSU. Currently attending this school and I do not like it one bit. This school is full of some of the most racially bitter people I've ever met. On more than one occasion I've listened to discussions that include how all whites are such bad people and how cop killing to them is a good thing? I don't know what kind of stuff they're smoking but obviously it's screwing with their brains! Last semester I had 3 teachers so absorbed in politics in their class that I could hardly see through their BS to actually learn anything. I don't know why but the teachers can't seem to stop preaching how right their political party is over everyone else's. God forbid your opinions differs then you get alienated in class as the gun nut or extremist for saying something like "I don't like the President" I've actually been called racist for stating my opinion on how I don't agree with the President's policies. Funny thing is I'm not even white I'm a light skinned Hispanic but to them it doesn't matter I'm a white racist to them. So yeah this school is not welcoming at all It's sad to say this but if you're Republican you don't belong and if you're not willing to have other people's politics shoved down your throat then don't go here. School is for learning, it's not for having other people's beliefs shoved down your throat we all have different opinions and beliefs and this school fails to understand that. First off, in the interest of full disclosure, I am a member of the class of ’75, so this is a truly ancient reflection. I transferred from a junior college in Fla. so I could continue my Aerospace major and receive a Bachelor’s degree. It was a wise decision. Classes were sized right, instructors truly dedicated and the people friendly. I have nothing but fond memories and good things to say about my experience. So what has happened in Murfreesboro since then? Well, according to the more recent alums I have talked to and this website, lots. To you who are now attending, my gosh I wish I had it so good. Dig up some old pics taken of the campus in the 70s. Notice any improvements? And the Aerospace Program- night and day difference. In short MTSU is doing a better job of educating its students and providing for their needs. Oh, to be young again. Of course it does seem there are some real issues that need to be addressed. The complaints about inept administration are distressing. Worse was the comment about crime- knife and gun- yikes! And then there is the common complaint running through all colleges (at least the ones my kids went to). Advisors don’t keep the students on track and the necessary courses aren’t available when they are needed. No excuses regarding the course availability, but by the time a student is a junior they should be able to read the college handbook and figure out what they need to graduate. I mean if they can’t … So, MT, as I believe you now like to call yourself, you have taken many steps forward and a few steps back. Keep up the good work.Al Phillips

There are good and bad professors, they have a lot of food choices, they have activities and events on campus all year around, the advisors in the Psychology department are very helpful especially Amy Foster, they also have a gym/rec center, just so much I like on the campus. There is only one thing I dislike is the parking…there is a lot of handicap parking and a lot in parking lots that are far away from classes that I noticed hardly anyone uses, and I feel it’s taking up a lot of space in the parking lots. Also they need to do Something about the parking in the MTSU lot a so that not a lot of water drains to the middle of the lot where people can’t park due to getting their shoes wet or getting stuck and fix the pot holes in that lot too! I attended class at MTSU last semester. Let me start by saying good luck during registration. I spend HOURS wasting my time to get told things were completer that weren't. I was required to pay extra fees because the school told me I could not begin classes unless I paid because of a mistake they made. During the middle of the semester I took a new job. I had to withdrawal from a class. I was told I would receive 25% of my paid tuition as a refund. This did NOT happen. No one is on the same page at this facility! I will be transferring schools due to my experience. I will state that the professors were good! Everything that happened negative had nothing to do with them. If you choose to go to school here, make sure people are not telling you what you want to hear. Make sure you double check everything!Michael Counter

Kelly Davenport goes above and beyond for her Farm Bureau customers! She is so personable, caring, and always willing to help no matter how big or small the need. I have been a customer of TN Farm Bureau for 20+ years. I have always been impressed by how efficient Kelly is when I email or call her or stop by the office. Whether I need a copy of one of my college age daughter’s rental insurance, need to add a car to our insurance, need a copy of our flood insurance, a quote for insurance, or the 800 number that I’ve requested a hundred times, she responds quickly and so kindly. Recently, we changed home lenders and before I thought to let her know, she had emailed to let us know the lender was verifying our homeowners insurance and asked if it would be okay to go ahead and change it. It is so nice to know she stays on top of our insurance needs. I know I have expressed to her how wonderful she is to us but I’m sure I need to do it more often. I have been using Farm Bureau since 1996 and have been extremely pleased with the response and immediate action taken by Farm Bureau the few times I’ve actually had to use my insurance. I've been with Farm Bureau since the late 90s. Only ever had one issue – the payout for a wreck wasn't quite as high as I would've liked. The University of Memphis is a great urban University in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. It has grown and developed tremendously over the last 20 years. I am an alumnus with bachelor's and master's degrees in business. My father earned his EdD here, my wife (accounting) and one of my children (music) are also graduates, and I have two more children that will be seniors this year, one in child development and one in French. There are many notable alumni, including Brad Martin, the retired chairman of the board of Saks Incorporated, who could live anywhere in the world and chooses to live in Memphis, TN. My degrees from Memphis prepared me well and have served me well in my 28 year career in financial services. I still have close connections with some of my grad school professors, and I teach in the business college as an adjunct. We have many dedicated and deeply experienced faculty who truly care about their students. Like all organizations, not all employees are as strong or friendly or caring as others, but the majority of the people I have worked with and was taught by are excellent. Memphis has great facilities (getting better all the time), and a strong, diverse, and highly engaged student body. As with all higher education, you will get out of it what you put into it. My kids have all placed a high priority on their education (partly because we did, but also on their own) and as a result have done well academically and socially. They have been highly involved in campus life, including numerous academic, social, and professional student organizations. They have truly thrived and grown and matured here. Any time I've had to deal with administration over credits, applications for scholarship/dorm/etc. something has been messed up and its a nightmare to fix. I wish the school cared less about sports and more about my major, and how we don't have much in the way of resources. The food was pretty bad when I had a meal plan but I've heard its getting better. My time in the LLC was pretty fun. My professors have been great. The library is great, except for the time they charged me $300 in overdue fees when I returned all my books on time, and I had to talk to 3 people before one finally looked for my books, which were all sitting on the shelves. Wish tuition wasn't going up. Literally anything that has to do with money or bureaucracy is a nightmare – when I dealt with Bursar's they give me eye rolls and sighs and act like I'm the biggest inconvenience because the classes I paid for and passed with A's aren't showing on my transcript and it's screwing me out of scholarships! I don't know where the university finds its employees. But I absolutely loved my program and my professors! I just hate that my school is run like a for-profit business!!!Breanna Parker

Advisors are slow to respond to emails, ya have to contact advisors a week in advance to schedule something, rather than within a week regardless of deadlines. I am a transfer student and i have received a letter saying they have my records however when i sign for classes online it says i need prerequisites i have already taken and so i tried getting a permit but their permit site is down. the registration processs is more confusing than anything and is very fustrating. Also to reach somebody by phone you have to wait absolutely forever before you may get a hold of someone, it is rediculous.Jon McCarthy

Audit Students Beware: The university created a 'school' email address for me without notifying me and sent all e-bills to this account, which I had no access to. By the time they notified me on my personal email of semester fees and tuition, I had accrued 140% in interest and late fees, despite having called Student Accounts at the beginning of the semester to confirm no outstanding fees or tuition existed. Pam in Student Accounts refused to even respond to me when I requested proof of when and how the university allegedly notified me about the email address they had created. Unethical and shockingly callous customer service – and incredibly steep fees that I could have avoided altogether had they properly communicated with me. I was financially punished for their amateur operations, and forced to pay late fees on the threat of being sent to a debt collection agency. I can only express my disgust at a system that cares more about their financial gain than the ethical treatment of their students.Ang Pearl

The campus is absolutely stunning. The education is top notch and the students are kind and friendly. Since it’s a bit liberal arts it allows you to major in non premed but still go into science. Usually you can find paid research done at the medical center. I would say the only downside is that it tends to lean very liberal in its teachings. They don’t represent conservative ideology well and when conservative viewpoints are expressed they will shut them down in class. That’s a common thing that has been occurring in universities across the country so I won’t hold it against them.N

Best university in the nation. "Harvard of the South" is a discredit to Vanderbilt by association with a lower tier institution. Fantastic faculty and classes are a hallmark of all its schools with great student:teacher ratios and quality, industry leading professors. I go there all the time. You can have dental procedures done there for a fraction of the cost of going to a dentist. The reason it costs so much less is you are allowing students to do the work. However there is always an actual dentist who supervises to make sure the students don't make mistakes or hurt you etc. I'm thankful for this school. I would have lost a couple of teeth if not for them. Because anywhere else it would cost as much to get a tooth pulled as you can get a root canal here. I’ve held a membership at four D1 gyms in the past, and this is hands-down the worst one I’ve been a part of. The equipment is pretty dated. Free weights have chips, rust, etc. you can never find a pair of working clips. If the gym is full it can even be tough to track down simple things like 5lb plates. Many of the machines dont have free movement, e.g. the lat pulldown has no horizontal give. Newer equipment doesn’t generally force your body through a motion like these older machines do. It looks like there was is a TRX system at one point but it has been covered on the ceiling. Lots of things are simply missing, not working, or need replacement (see photos of tv and water fountain). The locker room looks like its out of the 60s and there is no jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, etc. Their rules and hours flip-flopped continuously through the pandemic – sometimes you had to wear a mask and would be hunted down from across the gym, other times you didnt need a mask. Sometimes you could have guests, other times you couldnt. The hours of operation and open areas have also been a complete crapshoot. Some days you would show up in the middle of the day and it would be closed. Management would justify this by saying “check the website constantly”, as if the onus is on me to hunt down the shifting hours for the gym that i am unfortunately being forced to pay for as a part of my tuition. If you are a full time student during the year, you still need to buy a summer membership separately. This is in contrast to the policies of many other universities. You can certainly get the workout you need here but the aura and management are both off-putting. For whatever reason there is also sometimes a worker sitting in a desk in the middle of the lifting area on their cell phone (see photo). Overall a very odd gym that is certainly not worth purchasing a membership to if you cant help it.Lucas

Had a great experience watching a track meet between several different colleges and universities that met at Vanderbilt. We went to watch a coach friend of ours who coaches for Ole Miss. Just so you know, you cannot take food into the main area, and will be asked to stay upstairs where there are some chairs and tables that you can look over from. This used to be a fine facility before COVID. They were open to community and alumni and had a variety of classes and summer programs. Over two years on they still haven’t reopened their doors. I would give Dr. Guin Bennett 10 stars if I could! She has changed my life for the better and I cannot thank her enough. I have suffered for years with food allergies and intolerances and I have seen countless doctors, never being able to relieve symptoms without being put on an extremely restrictive diet that I was told I could not live on anyways! So what was the point? I was hopeless, malnourished, and miserable and then I was introduced to Dr. Guin and the NAET. These treatments have given me a part of my life back that I thought I'd never have again! I am now able to eat and tolerate all of the foods that made me so sick for so many years. I feel good! Not impressed by the $120 new patient fee for the $0 procedure/service I originally went in for as an uninsured, healthy person! Wouldn’t have even gone in had I known about this. It would’ve been cheaper just to go to the normal doctor. Service itself was ok; felt a little talked-down to by the LNP, even though we were on the same level. I went to get my Covid vaccine, early in the morning, expecting a mass of confusion and all that is always reported but came to a place very organized friendly and above all competent.
