11 Best G.E.D Programs In Harrisburg, PA (2022 Updated)

Are you a working individual looking to earn a degree? Don’t go to Harrisburg Community College. This college uses Technology that is not easy to learn and I am good with Computers. Want to speak with a Advisor, well my advisor lives in South Carolina so I can only conduct a meeting via Zoom, the college is taking ALL personal interactions away. And working individuals…well i hope your not trying to spend any time with family and friends because I leave my 40 hour week job and I do school work for 5-8 hours a night and on my weekends. Forget about spending anytime with my wife and three children….I am taking 3 classes. Don’t ask the teachers a question, they just refer you to the syllabus…well clearly I am asking you a question because I didn’t understand it. I am military, yesterday I had duty and i didn’t get my project submitted, I logged in tonight to submit the project and the instructor removed the instructions, and locked the drop box so I couldn’t submit the assignment. I could keep going but I don’t have time…if your a working individual, don’t fall for the things they tell you.William Bricker

If I could give this institution a lower than one star rating, I would. For a community college, the course costs, books, and fees seem to be immense. I had professors who took half or more of the class periods to talk about themselves, personal topics and politics. I’ve also had professors assign English paper topics about personal things and I imagine he laughed at the student’s papers later in his free time. The required intro to college class professor had us playing with popsicle sticks and jars of rocks and sand. The certifying official for the VA office submitted my paperwork incorrectly. I dropped my classes and incurred debt because of how poorly the education at HACC is. They seem to be all about the money and not the education or students. I can’t even request a transcript for my new school because of “debts” to HACC. I no longer live in Pennsylvania and I am now attending a MUCH better school, and I am very glad. I would never recommend this school to anyone. This is not a good school, don’t waste your money and time.SMK3181

Most professors are nice but my overall experience was bad. I went here to try to accomplish a 2 year degree but every time course selection came around they didn’t have the classes I needed so I got stuck taking hardly any credits each semester. The majority of advanced classes are online only. They offer almost zero advanced courses in a classroom. So happy I made the decision to transfer. Not to mention how every time I scheduled a meeting with an advisor it either got cancelled without notice or they changed me to a new advisor who could not give me a single piece of useful advice.Kate

Before starting at CCA my 2nd grader was enrolled in virtual school through her public school – this is entirely different from CCA. We have found CCA to be much more informative and flexible – I feel much more comfortable with the subject and work loads included with CCA. They have clubs and virtual field trips to help kids socialize and expand their interests. The teachers are very nice and do their best to maintain relationships with students and parents. There’s a program CCA uses which replaces all of the sites and apps we used for virtual schooling so my daughter needs to really sign into one place for all of her needs. Parents are also able to track progress through that site. I have only good experiences with this school however I do suggest you schedule your days around your students abilities. I have my daughter do everything she can do independently during the day and anything we need to go over together we can do in the evening – super convenient. **i found this amazing – CCA sent us a full box of supplies for school including our books, paint, paper, etc. this is super helpful and the quality of the products are all good. Choosing CCA was one of the best decisions we ever made for our family. The customer support from admin to IT is unmatched. The teachers and principles are engaged, professional and so kind. The only downside is we weren’t aware of this amazing institution years ago. My daughter is a senior at CCA, having transferred from her local high school. After the hybrid option changed, we found her online teachers at her local school to not take the students problems seriously. CCA was like a breath of fresh air. From the moment I made the initial call to my daughters first day to be seemless. They welcomed us with open arms. The very best part is the excellent communication. Everything needed to start the year such as a laptop to extensive art supplies. Any IT questions were answered within minutes. The staff always keeps you in the loop about any updates. My daughter isn’t only doing well, she’s thriving and on the honor roll since starting in the Fall. We are going to really miss CCA when our daughter graduates. To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation – his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools… how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. DC tech school it’s horrible this year for these kids the seniors let’s try to get out of thereThese kids work very hard this year even with the remote learning and going back only for 2-3days they went through a lot so they deserve to have a decent graduationFirst they tell them about the graduation only weeks before graduation and then the day before graduation they change it and say we got to do a remote graduation This is one of the first of my children graduating so I wanted to be there to enjoy your greatness but now I can’t because they were only allowing five people she got sibilance I have to bring my kids with me so I guess I can’t go to see my daughter graduate I have to look on the phone and watch my child walk the stage.So disappointedAnissa Johnson

I am alumni from 1991 and my sister around 15 year later. My daughter from 2014 and now my son is in his freshman year here..In my experience this is wonderful school that has been great for a long time…Teachers and staff who actually care and will do what they can to see the students suceed. Is this a college? It looks like a failing business. My daughter was interested in this school, but after visiting the school, she changed her mind. The school is a parking garage. There is no campus. The school is 1 building, surrounded by other buildings. The college CANNOT expand if it is fully surrounded (where is this college future?) The college is also on probation and might lose its accreditation. This 1 building/ Parking garage is low quality and offers VERY limited majors. This is the "WORST COLLEGE" on my daughter's college list. Everyone deserves better than Harrisburg University. I don't understand how they are attracting students.They are probably accepting students with low high school GPAs or maybe the students are the children of the administrators. I don't understand this school, its a huge mystery. Students are NOT getting a real college experience at this place. Is this a scam or what? They don't offer anything worthwhile and they LACK in amenities (dining halls, campus store, bookstore), in academic programs, resources, opportunities, activities/athletics, and everything that equals a good college experience. Those who are looking to go to Medical School or something of that nature, beware. I spent three years at this school and I enjoyed it. I know everyone and I got to know my professors at a deeper level. The professors are also willing to give useful feedback and advice; however, I was told by Admissions in 2011 that this school had strong connections for people looking into going to Med School, and my mom and I were convinced that HU would be able to accommodate my needs. I must say that this school is more for Tech students. There are a TON of opportunities/guest speakers/ etc. that are available. Although, there is very little for science students. Not EVERYONE can (wants) to intern at the Coroner's office. Before I left, I helped establish a need for a Pre-Med major and I'm hoping that it won't be run into the ground. I can't stick around and waste my time with people on the 14th floor who are still on the fence though, so I decided to transfer after my junior year… Just something to consider.Brittany

I have been associated with Harrisburg University for more than 6 months now and my experience has been really good. The university faculty and staff do a very impressive job at keeping the focus on course curriculum. The executive program is an added advantage to working students & who want to pursue higher education along with their busy work life. The building & infrastructure certainly lacks some bells & whistles when you compare with other universities, but it does compensate students on what is required for them to advance on with their studies.Sreejith Kaimal

Secretly corrupt. The receptionist women & the 'volunteers' that sit in the rooms with the overnight shelter ladies are fake compassionate unhelpful frauds. They take donations given to the Y. That goes for money,clothes, ect whatever is donated that they want they take first before and if ever the women staying here ever see these donations. Here they are working with homeless women yet still find a way to make everything about themselves as if their life sucks even worse!! Complaining all the time about their lives, the leak in the roof of their house, pushing a button, moving beds, having to make space. All to people who don't have any homes or stability!!!!! Made only 8 women sit in the tiny entrance room for 40 minutes because they didn't think there would be room for all of us? As if there weren't plenty of nights with about 12 people in there!! All to find out an hour later they made such a fuss about it cause a woman w/ 4 small children we're there. (when in reality they all ended up piling on 2 big mattresses anyway, everyone else still fit normally) This place needs new management and REAL KIND HEARTED employees who have something to add to an enviornment of women seeking help. Instead of just working there to avoid their own problems, self hatred thinking this will make them feel better about themselves. This is the reason homelessness never gets solved the people working for these organizations do not want to help anyone but themselves. So sad I hope one day someone will genuinely care about the community.Michelle M

My experience at the homeless shelter at the YWCA in Harrisburg was horrible first of all this supervisors act like they don’t want to help you with housing they act like they are limited and they look irritated whenever you need to follow up on things it just depletes your hope and motivation for a better life second of all there was a roommate who lived in the same room as me who was clearly I mean clearly obnoxious disrespectful irate and violent 24 seven and they did nothing about this this roommate also the same roommate stole from me on numerous occasions and they did nothing about this either all they did was say I am sorry but did absolutely nothing about it then they have the nerve to send me a notice to leave the shelter before they even helped me with anything mind you I was not the only one complaining about this roommate many people wore and they did not seem to care this was an a horrible experience and I was better off living in the streets or in my car I am just being honest everyone’s experience is different this was mineJASMINE Washington

It's a very nice place! Friendly people all around! Except someones I.D. card went missing. There were also two people who weren't getting along. I heard a woman say something about physically assaulting another woman. Nothing was done about either problem. While I was there. This occurred, in one hours time.Trevor Reich
