I visited as a new patient for a student dentist. It’s a new building with new equipment and most importantly clean environment. Everything takes much longer for a full overview of me teeth since she’s a student being examined. It’s nothing like having a normal dentist visit. She checked my blood pressure, pulse, even sited a small mole on my neck and gave me skin awareness and skin cancer advice. Then neck and jaw was checked and each tooth’s gum is measured and then x-rays! This was all done under the general supervision of professional and thorough Senior Dentist. Then time was up! A good school where you get out what you put in. Many trains stop within walking distance and buses as well. Just like any college, depending on your major, you will find good and bad professors. So always make use of the rate my professor website. I had a very pleasant experience. The administration was more competent than other schools I went to and my issues were always solved within a reasonable amount of time. The facilities I had to use for my major were in even better condition compared to some four year schools. The wifi coverage was good. Plenty of cafeterias with the best one being in the E building. Plenty of food trucks with different types of foods. Lots of seating areas with electrical ports. The class scheduling was workable with enough sections to fit almost everyone. Can't speak for any other major but it felt like that overall. They are always hiring new adjuncts so it's not the same professor teaching that one section you need all the time that everyone says is horrible. Always stay on top of your things if you want to have them resolved quickly. That's the part you play in your college years. The hand holding stops after High School. All I can say is, relax a little and have some fun. At the end of the day grades won't show the strength of your character after all is said and done.Mounia B

It seems like professors like the one I got Professor Arnold who acts likes she is going through the motions and don't there . i felt I waste my time and money which I paid out of pocket in her class and is thinking about leaving the college. She is one of the worst teachers/professors i ever had . I think cause it a community college a lot of them are mad cause they can't teach in a four year college through out of the community colleges in NY LaGuardia is the best . That being said she is the third professors that I had that sleeps walks through their class and I had another one that did something that weren't cool and I didn't show up for her class and never got an apology from her. Im currently in my last year at LaGuardia (majoring in business) and i have to say the Business department is full of AMAZING professors. Classes are really easy (most of them except accounting unless you're good at it) and the students are cool. I, personally, never talked to anyone or made any friends because I'm not an outgoing person. The school is constantly going under renovations and they just finished the new library and it looks AMAZING, as if it was a library from an ivy league. Food isn't that great but what do you expect, its school food [not free of course]. I took Acting & Gymnastics classes growing up as a kid @ KCC; along with taking other performing arts enrichment classes @ Brooklyn College also while growing up, although Brooklyn College wasn't affiliated with my high school like KCC was. KCC has a great campus for a CUNY two-year college (one of the nicest in the CUNY system being right on Manhattan Beach) and is also the partner CUNY institute with my High School alma mater, Edward R. Murrow whom it operates the CollegeNow! program with. I spent my Junior and Senior years at Murrow taking KCC college-level courses taught by both Murrow faculty, and visiting KCC faculty (at Murrow) as well as commuting to the KCC campus from Murrow for additional classes that could only be taught on-site @ the KCC campus. It was EXTREMELY academically enriching to be able to enjoy a college level curriculum whilst still being in High School; and that was due directly to KCC's collaboration with my high school. My GPA went up as a result of the CollegeNow! program during my last two years at Murrow as did my SAT scores. I have KCC to thank for that. 👍👏👏👏👏Ben Schaeffer

Kingsborough CC has a very nice entertainment program, well-run and well-sited, with both indoor and outdoor venues. This year's 4-part post-pandemic return to their July outdoor series has been a real winner for the 3 weeks of it so far, with decent weather enhancing the winning combination. Performers have commented on how well-received they are when they come to perform there, from an enthusiastic staff that really respects their art, to receptive audiences. That reputation has allowed audiences to see a number of top-notch acts more than once there, as the artists appreciate that respectful treatment. There have been other events there, all of which were interrupted by COVID since it came around, so there will be needed time to get those back on track. There are cautionary protocols in place even now: those attending must provide proof of vaccination, with masks optional. Not sure of masking will or will not be required once the indoor events resume, but it certainly appears that the staff has kept up-to-date with everything necessary.N H Tanner

I really can’t explain what I went through with the staff, so unprofessional and the attitude is horrible I always try to be as nice as possible but the way they treat people is awful. They literally screamed at my mom who does not speak any English for not having her vaccine card with her although she had picture of the vaccine but her phone was dead they yelled at her and did not try to help her enter the building at all. Once I came and approach them they was talking to me with awful attitude and yelling at me!!!!! although I respect the policy but they always could help in situation like this making everything 10X harder and unprofessional behaviour. One of its kinda school Historic place as it is more than 100 year old school CUNY’S most iconic campus so far As building is quite old, construction is going on still it’s worth taking a walk here Lush green gardens and beautiful library plus awesome walkways and old concert hall and other buildings. If I could, I would easily give York a ZERO RATING! NOTHING against the professors I’ve come across, but the school, policy and registrar/bursar staff and policy are ridiculous. I have been charged, during the pandemic I might add FULL. I clearly withdrew from summer classes and was literally ONE day passed the 100% refund date. After, I spoke continuously with bursar who kept sending me back to registrar. ALL professors assisted in submitting documentation showing I DID NOT CONTINUE in the ONLINE courses. Although I submitted required, and accurate paperwork documenting the WHY I could not complete the summer session, this greedy school is charging me ONE HUNDRED PERCENT for courses that their own records reflect that u withdrew from. Again, let me reiterate this was at the time of a Pandemic. I am now not able to register or do anything until this balance is paid. I think this school is deplorable, too much of the staff is unprofessional and not helpful At all! They’re dismissive and there is never any considerations or flexibility offered. If you can, avoid this school. Majority of the staff are unprofessional, lazy and do not seem to take their job seriously. Imagine emailing your professor and days, or even up to week plus passes by with no response. Some professors to avoid, Darrell Morris- extremely unprofessional acts as if he's paying us to be there and not the other way around. Does not actually teach anything, except the one time he was being evaluated. Does not respond to emails. Never comes on camera. Samuel Olagun- jeez where do I begin. Just do not take him. Lovely campus and easily seen from the street. The school is close to public transportation. The campus houses a high school and an elementary school. The grounds can use some work and some more public art installations. The cemetery is gated but plenty of history ardorns the head stones. The indoor exhibit of The Tuskegee Airmen is worth visiting the campus. The stundent art galley is the best. Ask security for accessibility for people with disabilities. Security at the gate will ask of I. D. He is very pleasant and awesome with directions. Most staff/faculty are helpful too. Better to get assistance from the more experienced staff. edit, update: ended up coming to the conclusion that because all of this uncertanty and my bad living situation I am dropping out, I did all I could, was not met halfway by anone but professors unless I begged here. do not go here if you're poor. Just, no. I can't take it anymore. I've tried to explain my situation to this school multiple times, and I'm left to struggle on my own. I am starving, housing insecure, financially unstable, and unable to make ot to class or properly study because of financial struggle, inability to be alone a place quiet to study because they won't house, and depression. In the end they want to fail you out so you can pay them fees later, I guarantee. Do not waste your money. This school is a rip-off. My daughter took the EKG and Phlebotomy courses and throughout both courses only received one day of clinical in each area and they were not full days of practice since the school does not use manikins and the students had to practice the phlebotomy on each other and they could not stick each other but so many times…smh. Upon completion, my daughter received the run around trying to get an internship, and during the one internship interview that she went on the doctor told her that she really did not have anything for her as she was just asked to take another intern who was a relative of someone at the school, but she didn't what to tell my daughter no over the phone. She just had her waste her time and gas so she could experience an interview and tell her no in person…really? I did my ultrasound course from here and my experience was great . Dr. Ayub and his lectures was awesome and he is always there for you in any guidance or questions even after completion of the course. The good thing is that they give hospital internships placement which actually enrich our skill and opportunities to learn varieties of cases and makes you confident. After the completion of the course they also help you for job opportunities which is really helpful as a beginner. My wife and I loved the performance of "Much Ado About …" Intimate theater, great performance! You can reach out and touch the actors because you are SO close … I very much liked being able to be SO close to the performers and hear them breath… and feel the emotion, the laugher , the sadness, the love. The character switches were fabulous. I loved how they used the accents … well done! At intermission I stuck up a few conversations with friendly folks … one gentleman explained to me some very funny twists in the interpretation … the other guy I spoke to was struggling with the language of Shakespeare but he was enjoying the performance also. I was truly entertained by these talented actors for a VERY reasonable price. I recommend this performance … you are NOT taking a chance … it is a STRONG show with great actors. I may seem sappy or simpleminded, but I DID Laugh and I DID Cry. The dog was very well trained!Jon Lea

I auditioned for a role in one of their musicals. The ad specifically said prepare two monologues and a song from the musical. I prepared all three things in less than a week for this specific audition and guess what? They asked me to just perform the song, smiled, and politely asked me to leave. I believe the director just had some stigma and racism towards Asian actors because she was not even friendly. Another thing, this is a small, black box theatre that prides itself on too many things that I just completely disagree with. Good luck.RJ Reyes

My family and I went for the Peanuts' Christmas performance on December. The place is very small and cozy, it was a very entertaining and catchy play; what left me a negative experience was the staff in the theatre. They weren't courteous, the 2 gentlemen were inpatient and seemed to be confused about how to distribute the seats. I want to say that the Allen School of Health Sciences wasn’t my first choice. I only wanted to get more information about the school. My daughter recommended this school to me. I came and spoke to Ms. Hunter about enrolling in classes. I passed my entrance exam with flying colors and enrolled in their four-week course. I paid off my tuition before classes started. Something came over me before starting that kept saying “I’m going to be a failure” and that I shouldn’t bother to go. I called the school to cancel and spoke with Ms. Zabida. She was very strong and shocked about my statement and said she was going to have Ms Hunter call me. I spoke to my husband who told me that a quitter won’t win and a winner never quits. Soon after Joy gave me a call and said “Ms. Bucknor you can’t quit, you have to reach your goal.” I then spoke with one of the directors, Robert. Rob gave me some great advice and we ended the discussion with “Happy Holiday and I will be seeing you on campus next week.” It made me so happy to speak with them. The nervousness did not go away because it was a long time since I sat in a classroom chair. I even had difficulty sleeping. But, with the help of my classmates and my instructor Ms. July I succeeded and completed the program with an A average! I want to thank my teacher, classmates, and husband for all the support. My experience at Ace Institute has been very successful. After completing my internship I recieved a job offering a week later! Now I am a full time Diagnostic medical sonographer. A little background before I get into the actual review. I've studied a few martial arts in my time. Some I did for a number of years even earning what you would call a black belt and others I've studied for not as many. So I've been exposed to all sorts of styles and techniques which I've enjoyed learning. But ultimately all this knowledge boils down to having the ability to defend oneself if the moment arises. Active Krav Maga is taught at the New York Self Defense Academy and I've enjoyed the method of training there. It's a good work out and I've managed to earn a few belt ranks while doing this. The belt ranking in this fighting system goes up various colors and then multiple degrees of black similar to that of karate or tae kwon do. Pros: -The techniques you are taught are practical. Some martial arts are rigid in their teachings and unfortunately do not evolve with modern day situations or are just not that useful in real life since they are more for sport rather than self defense ie. flying kicks against guns or knives. So unless another school is teaching you to shoot fireballs from your hands this system is probably the most practical for self defense. -Most of the 1 hour class sessions are dedicated to teaching you actual techniques rather than spending the majority of your time "warming up". -Sensei Avramcheyiv (just call him Avi….it's a lot easier) is the owner and personally teaches the mass majority of the classes. There are other instructors as well who I've had the pleasure to train under and with from time to time. But if you are to attend this school then you will be following Sensi Avi's instructions where he applies humor along with the seriousness needed to teach this system of fighting. He also has a black belt in karate along with his krav maga black belt. So the head instructor will be training you. Cons: -If you have a martial arts background be warned that there is no "art" aspect in this system. You will notice I refer to this as a "system of fighting". There are no forms, katas, taolu, poomsae, etc. This is strictly the martial aspect of things. So if you like pretty this is not for you. -The work out space is not the largest so you may end up in a wall or two when practicing. -Active Krav Maga or any Krav Maga system for that matter does not have an efficient sparring system where you don't get clobbered badly. Since this stuff is meant to hurt/disable your opponent (I probably should say HURT) you may not like the fact that you cannot go all out like in some other styles. You will be focusing on learning techniques and what sparring you do get into will not allow you to apply every technique you may know during a match up. This is not a sport style of fighting. Overall: I simply like Active Krav Maga. I could go on about the pros and cons of various styles but if you are looking strictly for self defense then I would focus with this system.Horace

After researching the Web for a Krav Maga School close to home, I came across New York Self Defense Academy. It's been a year and 2 months since I started on this journey and I have to say that I have only good things to say about it. I have learned many simple effective techniques to defend myself. As well as the more complex against guns and knife attacks. Having two facilities in the Queens Area, it is very convenient to attend the classes and Sensei Avi Avramcheyiv, the Director and Owner of the Academy is an expert in the art of Krav Maga. I feel in good hands learning from this highly trained master. Classes are 1hr full of energy, strong warm up and a lot of combat time to practice techniques and escalate to the different belts. I am presently an orange belt working my way to green and feel very confident that under Sensei Avi Avramcheyiv guidance I will be able to achieve my goal to become a black belt. Know that you don't just join Striking-101 but you become part of the Striking-Family! We have been attending Striking for around 4 years (cumulative), even before it got to this location. Clearly, following Sensei John wherever he goes. This is a man that is dedicated to his students and does all he can to push them to their maximum capacity (and beyond). All of those that work with him at the gym are also high quality fighters and show everyone so many skills and respect. My 9 year old has already been able to join a few competitive fights and noticed what a difference getting on a public forum like that has made to his development and overall growth. He was a child that could not stay still and focus; not only at school but also during his training sessions at Striking. He is currently the highest rank in the Kids Fight Team and has made Honor Roll at school for the past 3 years straight. Striking101 is a true diamond in the rough. A modest gym in the heart of Forest Hills, provides training in all the mixed martial arts: grappling, muy thai and traditional boxing. While I have only attended the boxing classes for less than 1 year, I have transformed my body. Losing a total of 35lbs (16% of my body weight), I feel stronger and faster than ever. The culture of the school is embodied not only by the owner, Sensei Jonathan but by each member of the coaching team. They are all friendly, knowledgeable, and fierce instructors/coaches. I’ve been coming to Queens Training Club regularly since they opened a few months ago and am already a big fan! I really appreciate how customizable the strength and mobility classes are. This creates a beginner-friendly environment while also having the potential for more experienced lifters to really push themselves or use the class to focus on range of motion and form. The instruction is excellent and I’ve already noticed a lot of direct benefits carry over into my solo training time. Great addition to the neighborhood! The Strength and Movement class was challenging and fun. We focused more on technique rather than heavy weight. Coach Zach really showed me movement i never learned in working out. I felt amazing after the class and I worked out completely different sets of muscles I’ve never worked before. I also took a Muay Thai class which I really enjoyed as I’ve been doing Muay Thai for years now. The class is authentic and not a water downer version. I just completed my OSHA30 class with NYST sponsored by Pillars. I must admit that I was a bit concerned about taking a virtual Safety and Health course. This intense course requires strict compliance with State Rules and Regulations, all from within your home. I enjoyed the material and videos on Safety and Health while working on a construction site. The instructor (Ana) and Administrators (Sharon, Ron, and Karen) were all PROFESSIONAL. This dojo is SO MUCH MORE than a judo club! It is a unique set-up where children are encouraged to do well academically, physically, and socially! As a teacher and mother of a "judoka" I highly recommend IJC! Our Sensei is a mentor to our children. He teaches them the judo philosophy, how to be good athletes, as well as great human beings. We are truly blessed to be part of this amazing JUDO family. We could not have asked for anything more. Fast forward, 2020, and my family and I feel just as strongly and passionately about our dojo (International Judo Center) and our Sensei (Saro Balagezyan). My son is now 19 1/2 years old (a sophomore in college) and IJC continues to shape who he is! Even after so many years, Sensei Saro and our judo are still a big part of his life. Being an educator myself, I have very high expectations of any instructional training my children receive. After changing more than 4 different martial arts schools, we have been fortunate enough to find IJC. The structure and the discipline that is utilized in this center has exceeded my expectations. A new fencing club near the heart of downtown Flushing Queens! Got a chance to meet the owner (Coach Wang) and his family; it was an absolute blast. This place is a short walk from the LIRR or 7 Flushing Main Street train so I would recommend everyone at least give this a try (I came all the way from the Upper West Side so you don’t have an excuse!). The space is large and extremely tidy, the staff and fencers are all polite, and it’s the only club in Flushing so what more do you want? Got my butt handed to me by everyone there but I’ll get my revenge one day! As a fun thing, try and find your national flag from the sea of hanging flags! I’ve been to a couple of fencing clubs looking for a better one for my child. I absolutely love Future Stars fencing club. The instructors are very knowledgeable and professional. The class is a good mix of athletic conditioning and fencing. It works well with the kids of all ages. It’s great that the club has brought my child physical and social confidence.
