I am saddened to read the negative reviews posted here about Houghton College, as I don't think they reflect the reality our family has experienced. My son is in his third academic year there and our family wholeheartedly gives Houghton a five-star rating. The small class size is a real plus, in that the professors are able to give personal attention to each and every student. We have found the staff to be highly professional and supportive in all regards. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this college to anyone seeking a Christ-centered education for their children or for themselves.Dave Belt

Graduated in 2003, loved everything about Houghton. Please consider graduates' reviews of this school, most of the negative reviews are from people who did not attend. I don't know current enrollment stats, but it would be a good idea to call the office with questions before writing this off. I do agree that the town isn't much to behold, but this is NOT the place to go if you want a bustling metropolis nearby. We stayed at Houghton for a week of camp with our church's Student Ministry. The staff was incredible there right down to the dorm cleaning staff, who would take the time to stop and have a meaningful conversation with you. Some of the food was incredible. The campus is beautiful, and just the right size. Both of my kids have talked about going there when they graduate.Wendy Emerson

My son recently graduated from this college. He transferred in from a 2 year college so he was only there for 5 semesters. Things started okay but went downhill. Communication quickly became a problem. We had issues from professors, finance and counseling. It became so bad that to get anything done we had to cc the Dean in any messages that we sent. I also know of someone else who had to do the same thing. The last semester was the worst. He was enrolled as a full time student but when the bill came through it was in correct. We got loans for the first amount but had to get additional loans after the semester ended. No one sent an email we had to check the account because my son never received an email or his diploma. When we were notified by the finance department they told us we had to fix it. Numerous emails were sent to many different people but nothing was ever fixed. We finally resent the emails and cc’d the Dean and it finally got fixed. The college also changed the advisor without notifying us that it had changed. My son had to find his own internship and figure his classes out on his own. My daughter had the same issues with communication. She was signed up to go but never heard back. She then got a call from the advisor asking why she never showed up. The advisor had enrolled her in classes but never told her. She ended up not going. If you choose this college they will take your money but you will have to do a lot of work to make sure they are on top of things.Todd Crossett

I graduated from Roberts last year and I had a great experience. I do agree with some reviews that communication is not always great, but as long as you are proactive and take an active approach to your education here, you'll do wonderfully. The staff and students are very respectful and the professors seem to really care about you and your overall success. It is a nice size campus, not too busy and not too small. I went to undergrad here and loved it. There were always opportunities to learn outside of class, meet people through activities, and my professors knew who I was. A good school where you get out what you put in. Many trains stop within walking distance and buses as well. Just like any college, depending on your major, you will find good and bad professors. So always make use of the rate my professor website. I had a very pleasant experience. The administration was more competent than other schools I went to and my issues were always solved within a reasonable amount of time. The facilities I had to use for my major were in even better condition compared to some four year schools. The wifi coverage was good. Plenty of cafeterias with the best one being in the E building. Plenty of food trucks with different types of foods. Lots of seating areas with electrical ports. The class scheduling was workable with enough sections to fit almost everyone. Can't speak for any other major but it felt like that overall. They are always hiring new adjuncts so it's not the same professor teaching that one section you need all the time that everyone says is horrible. Always stay on top of your things if you want to have them resolved quickly. That's the part you play in your college years. The hand holding stops after High School. All I can say is, relax a little and have some fun. At the end of the day grades won't show the strength of your character after all is said and done.Mounia B

It seems like professors like the one I got Professor Arnold who acts likes she is going through the motions and don't there . i felt I waste my time and money which I paid out of pocket in her class and is thinking about leaving the college. She is one of the worst teachers/professors i ever had . I think cause it a community college a lot of them are mad cause they can't teach in a four year college through out of the community colleges in NY LaGuardia is the best . That being said she is the third professors that I had that sleeps walks through their class and I had another one that did something that weren't cool and I didn't show up for her class and never got an apology from her. I say if you over 30 years like me this college is not for you. Im currently in my last year at LaGuardia (majoring in business) and i have to say the Business department is full of AMAZING professors. Classes are really easy (most of them except accounting unless you're good at it) and the students are cool. I, personally, never talked to anyone or made any friends because I'm not an outgoing person. The school is constantly going under renovations and they just finished the new library and it looks AMAZING, as if it was a library from an ivy league. Food isn't that great but what do you expect, its school food [not free of course]. This is not a good college at all. It's a decent sized school but I found many of the students here to be very cold and unfriendly. It's a very political school everyone is either very liberal or very conservative which made me uncomfortable since i'm not a political person. There is a lot of drug activity at this school. Plattsburgh State University is a welcoming community of faculty, staff, and students. The campus life is booming with opportunities and the grounds are adorned with fantastic artwork. My overall education received I will give a 5 star. But as for respect for alumni and help available to them I give 1 star. I completed my b.s in 3 and a half years, I got a scholarship for 8,000. I decided to attend because my best friend was attending and enjoyed the school. I also did not want to attend a CUNY, I wanted to try a private college, but not too expensive. My education received was great, the professors were friendly and well educated as well as had expierence in their related field. BUT I have to take a required course for a masters degree program, I would prefer to take it as SFC, so I ask if the terrier come home program applies and they say NO because I am not pursuing another degree. Well, I’m sorry you don’t provide my graduate program. CUNY wants to charge me 2,200 for one class, I asked if SFC could lower the rate since I graduate there and they made about 20,000 off of my degree? They flat out said no, unless I’m pursuing another degree and would not discount the rate of 860 per credit which is about 400 more than CUNY. They wouldn’t discount me anything AT ALL lol. I would never even consider taking a masters degree program, certification or any other course at this school again. It was very uncooth and disrespectful to not offer any discount especially seeing as they made an immense amount of money off of me. I graduate cum laude and would have attended their graduate school but they offer 3 limited programs with a crazy tuition. Save your money and go to a CUNY for your masters. It’s okay for a undergraduate program but masters programs are limited and the amount they charge for the quality for care and respect for students is minimal. When I went the lobby and cafeteria area had classroom chairs and it looked awful, now it’s all done up and amazing looking lol is that what the extra charge is for ? I would have considered paying a bit extra but the way the man replied via email was kind of snark and annoying. You think they would treat alumni better. Oh well, whatever. They raised the tuition at lease 5,000 bucks in the 3 years I was there and if I’d known that previously I would have saved myself the student debt and went to a CUNY 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ Professors get 5 stars. I am going to be a Sophomore this year and I couldn't be happier with the school. All the faculty and staff made the transition from high school to college very smooth. The faculty and staff care about how your are doing both academically and personally. From the minute I stepped through the door at my open house, I was automatically welcomed with open arms to the St. Francis College family. Everyone from the students to the faculty members are friendly as well, it is really easy to find a solid group of people who will be by your side for a long time. Its also the perfect school for students who want to be highly involved on campus. There are lots of opportunities from department jobs, to research assistants, to clubs and sports teams. I myself am a member of two of their 21 NCAA Division 1 teams, as well as a handful of other clubs and organizations on campus, from Student Government to the Latin American Society. This is the perfect school for someone who wants to be an individual and find themselves, rather than just be one of a few thousand. By spending a day at St. Francis College, I immediately felt a strong connection with the school and everybody in it. I have never felt such an amazing vibe like this ever before. The only reason ppl go here and are willing to grossly pay for an education is the location. I went to school here and will say it is far overpriced for the education you are given. Some staff are great and really care about the education they are providing. Others just read off a powerpoint and have no interest except for a paycheck. Pace is expensive, doesn't help the students getting internships and when the students get one on their own, Pace takes the credit. After graduating, the students don't get a job. One of their alumni just got a good job and due to she owes money, they don't give her transcripts and are retaining her title. Is not possible for Pace to help when the students really need help? This is a good school. However, the quality is almost identical to the CUNY school I attended before coming here that costed significantly less. Additionally, the lack of diversity (granted, because of how this is a private school) is also lacking. Simply put, the 4 years I spent at The College of Saint Rose were the best 4 years of my life. I attended the Accepted Students Day the Spring before I matriculated and fell in love. The campus was beautiful, everyone was friendly and helpful. I left with every question answered and very at ease about where I would be spending the next 4 years. Saint Rose provided me with an opportunity to come out of my shell. I was the typical shy student. I had my group of friends and I stuck to them. I didn't participate in any campus activities, my days consisted of going to class and back to my room. At the beginning of my second year, I knew I wanted to make a change, I wanted to experience all Saint Rose had to offer. I became a mentor, and then a resistant assistant, joined clubs, and volunteered. I did it all. I became a leader on campus all while balancing my school work and employment. The resources are unlimited at Saint Rose, you just have to reach out. Class sizes are small which is perfect for those of us who like to get to know our professors. As a biology major, I found my classes to be challenging but not impossible and learning was fun. When you have professors who are passionate about their field it makes you passionate to learn and that is what you will find when you come to Saint Rose. With the help of one of my professors, I was able to secure a summer research internship at Albany Medical College. My time spent here was very productive. When I transferred to Saint Rose, I knew that this place would become my second home. I can't stress enough how transfer friendly the college is. I had such wonderful help from Transfer Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar and the Communications department throughout the transfer process. They included my mom as well and answered any questions she had. While attending Saint Rose, I had some incredible opportunities that you can only get from Saint Rose. I was elected President for Tau Sigma National Honor Society which allowed me to go to Chicago and San Antonio for their leadership conference. I got to go on several trips including the Hearst Tower in NYC, Yankee Stadium, Bronx Zoo and to local media outlets such as Time Warner Cable News. I also was a staff writer/news editor for The Chronicle, the weekly student newspaper. But most importantly, Saint Rose prepared me for my two internships/part time job during my senior year and current full time job in the news industry. The professors in the Communications department helped me grow not only as a journalist but as a person. They pushed me to think outside the box and ask the tough questions. Without such a wonderful and supportive COMmunity, I wouldn't be where I am today. I feel like one star would be harsh, but three stars would be too nice. My experience with Saint Rose is that it is, like many colleges in this country: overpriced. That is a common complaint with all colleges, but it's more than that. I think the value of the education you get there doesn't really match what you are/will be (if you are taking loans) paying for. I feel the education at Saint Rose is not preparing the younger generation to enter the workforce or the real world. The school boasts great academics and don't get me wrong, some classes have been very objective based and informative. However, some classes made me feel like I was still in high school/the public education system. As in, 1) They aren't that challenging, 2) They don't teach me skills and knowledge that I'll need in the future and 3) It feels like some of the classes had a larger agenda to them (trying to convince students rather than teach). Besides the academics, the campus is nice. Personally, Albany, NY is not my cup of tea but for someone coming from the NYC area (which there's a lot at SR), it might be nicer to be in a much smaller city. Besides that, I think most adults see college campuses kind of deteriorating in terms of the academics and culture. I don't need to go into details about that. At one time, the tuition for a full-time evening student was less than that for daytime, which made sense since there was no access to many of the daytime nine-to-five services. I am glad I transferred from IUPUI campus to CUNY. I will graduate debt free . Love the QC CUNY campus along with free QC Red/CUNY black shuttle bus for students that has certain pick and drop off points . I really can’t explain what I went through with the staff, so unprofessional and the attitude is horrible I always try to be as nice as possible but the way they treat people is awful. They literally screamed at my mom who does not speak any English for not having her vaccine card with her although she had picture of the vaccine but her phone was dead they yelled at her and did not try to help her enter the building at all. Once I came and approach them they was talking to me with awful attitude and yelling at me!!!!! although I respect the policy but they always could help in situation like this making everything 10X harder and unprofessional behaviour. One of its kinda school Historic place as it is more than 100 year old school CUNY’S most iconic campus so far As building is quite old, construction is going on still it’s worth taking a walk here Lush green gardens and beautiful library plus awesome walkways and old concert hall and other buildings. Great academics (I was in Family and Child Studies so I could eventually do Early Childhood P-3, and I know the Musical Theater and Dance programs are amazing. Also the Visual Communication Design BFA) but I have complaints about dorm life. I was put in a dorm room with a smoker even though I have a chronic illness and explicitly put on the roommate application that I did NOT want to live with a smoker. She came in every night smelling of smoke and it was not… a good situation. Not much to do on campus either as far as activities (personally, as I'm not one for sports or many of the clubs they offered) I did appreciate that there was an ice skating rink so close to campus! But I went home every weekend. Disability Resource Center is AWESOME. If you need support or accommodations because of a disability or chronic illness I strongly suggest checking in with them!!!Laura Whitney

Now that my son is graduating I can write a review. The school administration, professors, and overall staff are unresponsive and ill informed. Takes weeks to get answers and then they are conflicting. Graduation ceremony multiple posts graduates need to be there for 11 no 12 no 11. Guests can arrive 60 minutes early. Guests stand In Parking lot 7 . No one there directing people to opposite side of building for entrance. Graduates just standing around in the parking lot again no direction. We went there for a sports clinic . Nice facility and staff. The campus seems well maintained and up dated. The training was professional. I’m not certain about the academics, as we were not there to take a class. The campus is a bit sprawling and it took a bit to figure out where we needed to go…all in all- the road signage is adequate. There is a Yogi Berra stadium which looked interesting.eric j

If I could, I would easily give York a ZERO RATING! NOTHING against the professors I’ve come across, but the school, policy and registrar/bursar staff and policy are ridiculous. I have been charged, during the pandemic I might add FULL. I clearly withdrew from summer classes and was literally ONE day passed the 100% refund date. After, I spoke continuously with bursar who kept sending me back to registrar. ALL professors assisted in submitting documentation showing I DID NOT CONTINUE in the ONLINE courses. Although I submitted required, and accurate paperwork documenting the WHY I could not complete the summer session, this greedy school is charging me ONE HUNDRED PERCENT for courses that their own records reflect that u withdrew from. Again, let me reiterate this was at the time of a Pandemic. I am now not able to register or do anything until this balance is paid. I think this school is deplorable, too much of the staff is unprofessional and not helpful At all! They’re dismissive and there is never any considerations or flexibility offered. If you can, avoid this school. Majority of the staff are unprofessional, lazy and do not seem to take their job seriously. Imagine emailing your professor and days, or even up to week plus passes by with no response. Some professors to avoid, Darrell Morris- extremely unprofessional acts as if he's paying us to be there and not the other way around. Does not actually teach anything, except the one time he was being evaluated. Does not respond to emails. Never comes on camera. Samuel Olagun- jeez where do I begin. Just do not take him. Lovely campus and easily seen from the street. The school is close to public transportation. The campus houses a high school and an elementary school. The grounds can use some work and some more public art installations. The cemetery is gated but plenty of history ardorns the head stones. The indoor exhibit of The Tuskegee Airmen is worth visiting the campus. The stundent art galley is the best. Ask security for accessibility for people with disabilities. Security at the gate will ask of I. D. He is very pleasant and awesome with directions. Most staff/faculty are helpful too. Better to get assistance from the more experienced staff. They are quite knowledgeable. The food is pricey for college life, but the chicken Marsalis, peas & rice, Mac & cheese and green beans with show string beans cut carrots was a tasty pleasant delight. The logistics of the buildings are identified in letter quadrants to help navigate your way through the buildings. For example 1B 106 would be on the 1st floor in the "B" section. As F-1 visa international student, I would say that ASA College is a great place for our educational and career goals. Professors are responsive and very collaborative as well as helpful. During my education in ASA College I was able to make friends with students from different parts of world. The most of them are my lifetime friends now. Classes are not too big. Therefore, providing a tremendous opportunity to study and excel your knowledge and/or skills. I would recommend international students to study in ASA College if they want to be ready to compete within existing job market and get a job they are looking for. ASA College gave me the opportunity to get my first degree in Medical Assisting in the USA, and also to gain useful experience through work in the admission office. That was even more convenient for me to have school and work in the same building. The professors were very accessible, understanding and always ready to assist with any help or piece of advice. The college has won multiple awards from the CUNY system as well as other institutions for its ability to grant Associate's Degrees at an impressive rate and to foster continuing education at senior colleges. With a respectable teacher-to-student ratio, significant public and private funding, and a central location in New York City, the learning experience has been covered by many publications and studied by experts. However, BMCC also suffers from a large rise in remedial education, lack of freshman retention, and overcrowding. Due to its larger base of capital compared to most other two-year colleges, expansion of new campuses during the rebuilding of Fiterman Hall was possible. Several trailers are still used as classrooms to this day in order to help expand capacity. Internal programs have also been created or expanded to help with academic advisement, provide online access for registration, transferring to other colleges, and job placement. A diverse student base, some of whom had immigrated to America shortly before enrolling, also makes tailoring a viable solution difficult. edit, update: ended up coming to the conclusion that because all of this uncertanty and my bad living situation I am dropping out, I did all I could, was not met halfway by anone but professors unless I begged here. do not go here if you're poor. Just, no. I can't take it anymore. I've tried to explain my situation to this school multiple times, and I'm left to struggle on my own. I am starving, housing insecure, financially unstable, and unable to make ot to class or properly study because of financial struggle, inability to be alone a place quiet to study because they won't house, and depression. In the end they want to fail you out so you can pay them fees later, I guarantee. I'lll gladly take my review down if it's actually a thing they decide they really want to help me with, only after I have been actually helped, and not as in, money grant to help my situation I never recieve, or new housing program email I apply for and am swiftly rejected because I am not enrolled just enough just yet due to circumstances that are once again not entirely my fault because when I applied here I intended to be taking 16 credits not 7. Very diverse. You can see all kind of people over here. Most of the students and staff are friendly. Environment is good. Friendly neighborhood. If you are hungry, you can find all types of food around the building. It has 26000 student. It also has a big cafeteria, big library, big quiet study place for study and a lot more . Do Not Attend! This may get taken down but i dont care. I'll put it right back up to tell the truth. I am a former student who was suspended with my girlfriend for alleged bullying and threats when in all reality i was turning to the web for help after being bullied to the point of suicidal thoughts. I was also bullied by staff who told me not to make videos about WW2 and the holocaust as well as war crimes the allies and american troops committed. What also dug a grave for me was following instructions and doing research on school shootings and columbine. If your trans expect to not be allowed to use the mens or womens restrooms no matter how male or female you look I was forced to leave the same day as i was given the suspension notice and was rushed to grab my things. The president is a joke and so is the dean of students the security team is no better and they won't help you at all unless a physical fight breaks out. Bullying is not tolerated? Right so why werent the kids who picked on me dealt with? The answer is simple: go for the trans kid shes the problem! Thanks to the school being over sensitive my life is nearly ruined and in shambles i'm trying to pick up the pieces. If you send your kid here you're setting them up for failure and you need to reconsider.Shaddoll Nephilim

Expensive, dated architecture, the entire thing is built on one big hill (so bring your glutes), Administrative-student clashes and other typical beaureacratic nonsense you'd find at a NE school are the cons. The pros are the extremely qualified professors who offer the best and most personalized education imaginable, an Administration that is always looking to change and work for the student (with varying degrees of success, but the effort is there which is the important part), a fair amount of included amenities like two gyms, a pool, basketball/racquetball/tennis courts, hiking trails on school-owned land, collaboration with the local State University, clubs, a fun student base, a large library, tutoring services, etc. Takes liberal arts to heart.Casey Holmberg

I am a sophomore at Seton Hall studying psychology. From the moment I came to campus for my tour senior year of high school, the Seton Hall community has been nothing but welcoming. The sense of community I felt from the students and faculty, and the academic support they promised to give is what ultimately led me to commit to Seton Hall. Now that I'm a sophomore, I can say that sense of community and academic support is still so prevalent. As a freshman, SHU sets up each student with an academic advisor and a peer advisor, both of which were extremely supportive in my decision to switch my major. They outlined my new requirements and talked about each of my options, reminding me just how supported every single student is. Overall, Seton Hall offers amazing opportunities and I couldn't be happier that I decided to continue my education here!Emily Balda

I love this university. I had time to study ESL program here and I would be attractable their plan. It was not only good professors, friendly and humorously friends, but also they (I mean the leaders of that university) have extremely detail their program for each of their students. Tutors and adviser are wonderful with many years to do that jobs. And another side, they have good material things to provide for education program. I enjoyed my free time at school in the main chapel, it is awesomeNich

For 4 years Rutgers was our home, and the center of our family life. Our eldest children grew up here and the youngest was born. It was a wonderful life experience as a family, as people and students. Life at Johnson apartments was happy, with difficult moments of adaptation but definitely a great challenge. Rutgers offers an excellent learning environment to its students. However, I found that the campus has some flaws. For instance, some parts of the campus are unkempt and could use some tidying up. Nonetheless, I am fond of the wide variety of areas open to both students and locals—nice chains, restaurants, and stores (among many more)! Overall, it is a great public university for students hailing from New Jersey.Lara C.

The best university in New Jersey and one the top public institutions in country. So big that there are 5 different campuses in the New Brunswick/Piscataway. From the moment I was accepted to a few months later, it’s been nothing but miscommunication, incorrect information, and confirming false details left and right. Name any kind of detail, and they’ve gotten it wrong. Name any kind of procedural, logistical, student experience piece, and there’s conflicting information. The “right hand doesn’t talk to the left” saying doesn’t even begin to describe how dysfunctional this place already is, and classes haven’t even started. When you’re about to go into $120,000+ debt for the rest of your life you’d at least expect the “student success advisor” not to demean you at every turn, or for at least one person to confirm details that are actually true. If you’re considering applying here, go absolutely anywhere else and spare yourself the unbelievably unnecessary headaches and stress. Save your time and energy for the actual schoolwork — not a school that can’t get a single detail correct.Jamie Bichelman

I lost my wallet Wednesday while cycling to or from work. I stressed for a minute, only had time to cancel Credit Cards and got over it. Tonight I get home and a package arrives in the mail from an anonymous stranger with a note, "Hi Irving, I found your wallet on Wednesday night near Madison Square Garden. I hope losing it didn't cause too much stress." Everything, including cash, metro cards, gift cards, Drivers License, credit cards, etc., were intact, just as I had placed them in my new Prada wallet, a gift from my dear friend ‪#‎KenPilska‬.
