20 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Baltimore, MD (2022 Updated)

If you are looking for a university that constantly drops classes without notifying you and consistently mess up your financial aid and student loans, then this is the university for you. I have never dealt with such an unorganized and incompetent higher education facility. If I were not so close to reaching my end goal with my education I would transfer. If you are planning on taking courses at the HEAT Center in Aberdeen through Notre Dame, such as myself, don't bother because courses are rarely offered there and I have had 3 courses in the past 2 semesters that were to be held at the HEAT Center that have been cancelled and I was never notified by Notre Dame. Now they have notified Fed Loans that I graduated in August when I have not completed all my coursework. Talk about unorganized. I don't think I have encountered one person on the administrative staff that seems like they know what they are doing. I can say my professors have been good; however all of the negative encounters I have had with administration has overshadowed those positives.Kelly Borowiak

This review is of the Entry level BSN nursing program. To be fair, this institution actually has a very good nursing program. The culture of the environment however needs plenty of improvements. This nursing program lacks cultural diversity and sensitivity. The nursing program and it’s educators still caters to the program’s largely Caucasian student population. All of the full time professors that lecture are white with the exception of one Indo-Caribbean professor. This has created an environment of both intentional and unintentional biases, which has also created an open tolerance for racial and ethnic prejudices that should never be acceptable or tolerated in an educational environment. The nursing program would greatly benefit from including an office of Cultural diversity and inclusion to better accommodate and nurture its students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds.Beautiful Life of B

Notre Dame of Maryland was the last college I visited, but the first one that felt like home. I'm only a sophomore, but I know that I made the best decision because the faculty, staff, and student body make this place so great. My professors are always available and helpful, which is great in a pinch, and living on campus with my friends is the best thing I could have asked for. The programs create something for everyone (as seen in my own dorm!) with one roommate as Pre-Pharm in the 3/4 year program, the other currently applying for the Nursing Program, and I'm applying for the 5 year MAT program for education. My daughter goes to McDaniel. She started her freshman year last fall in the middle of the pandemic and the school has been fabulous about ensuring student safety. They have frequent spot-checking with random COVID testing and have great systems in place for isolation and quarantine. Most of the classes are hybrid or totally online. This works out well because students are able to be on campus but take their classes online from their dorms. It's a good system because it keeps large gatherings to a minimum, but the students have ready in-person access to faculty as well – something crucial to success for first-year students transitioning to college life. Administration is communicative with parents. Most of the on-campus population is first-year students, with the more experienced students able to stay off campus and use distance learning. I think that a lot of what they are doing is easier for McDaniel because it is such a small school and might not be feasible in larger schools. Westminster is a fabulous, quaint little town with plenty of the usual college hangouts like cafes. The school is situated in a great area full of restaurants, shopping centers, etc. All in all, we are pleased with everything.K P

Left after two semesters and a winter class. The school prides itself on being big on ASL culture and classes which is the main reason I went. They had to cancel the ASL3 class because not enough people signed up since you only need two foreign language classes to graduate. The food from the dining hall is bad. It's not that good, gets repetitive and I've gotten food that was still frozen. I would usually get food from the Pub area upstairs from the dining hall. I didn't even know where I was going to be living until two weeks before classes started. They put me in a room that had a heater behind one of the walls so it was always hot in the room. In order to access the laundry room you had to exit the building and go around to another one of the doors. They also accused me of vandalizing one of the vending machines in the laundry room which I never did and never used the vending machines there (only had to pay $5 so whatever). The immediate town area was a little sketchy and at times felt uncomfortable walking in the area to go to the library.Purple Red

Went there for my freshman year of college, then transferred to Salisbury for financial reasons, unfortunately. If you can afford it, go. Even if you can’t, consider it. Beautiful campus, fun night and weekend life, great geographical location, professors that care wholeheartedly about you and your experience (invite you to their homes, personalize instruction, get to know you as a person, etc.), authentic Greek life opportunities and a real close-knit, community feel of the campus yet big enough to see different faces every day. Beautiful campus off a not-so scenic main thoroughfare (Baltimore Avenue). I attended for one short semester and it was nice to return and see all the progress and development that has occurred over the years. Numerous new buildings including campus dining and resident halls. The campus tour we attended for my child was long, and they still have covid protocols required for visitors, which is a bit bizarre, but not entirely surprising, since the State of Maryland always thinks it's on the cutting edge of progress. Also surprised how dead it was on homecoming weekend, and the students we did see wandering on campus do not wear their Maryland colors. A bit disappointing.Avalus

From my experience till now UMD is an amazing college with an even amazing staff and infrastructure. Orientation for students are very important and UMD makes sure they have proper ones. The college is really big and is like another city in itself with everything possible available. It will take time for you to know your way around. Classes are equipped with the latest tech. Lecturers know their subject and are very approachable. These few words wouldn't justify everything about the college. Make sure you do your own research. Really nice room. All the lights had mood settings and automation. The scenery was very modern and clean. The bathroom was nice and it had some amazing views very comfortable hotel would definitely visit again. My only recommendation would be maybe having some kind of microwave or something available in the room. However I might end up upgrading to an executive suite next time just to have a dedicated kitchen.Jovon Leblanc

I realize that my opinion can't stand for the whole school (chemical engineering​ 2017), but having held a student job that allowed me to see a lot of the behind the scenes stuff and was part of a department that was in the midst of a lot of changes, I do think I can offer some insight. First, unless you're a proactive genius who wants to do research their entire life, don't bother coming here. This school doesn't care about industry or the jobs it offers. This school talks a lot, but doesn't follow through very well. For instance, the higher ups tend to be good, but the people below them are horrible. The career center is a joke, the admin people are flakes who pretend to know what they're doing, and the professors are very hit or miss. How this school got "best undergrad teaching" is a mystery to me. The only good majors are comp sci and bio. The rest of the departments, especially mine, are either full of hot air, stupid in their decision making, or just plain lost. This university attracts a lot of insanely bright students to their undergraduate program and the stem majors would suck without them. God knows the STEM majors don't get genuine help from their professors. I had to go an extra year because of the negligence of my department and two of the many professors that left during my time were upset and thought I should have graduated a year earlier. I almost transferred twice. My department, similar to many others, don't have any connections to companies in industry. This school also hates transfer students despite having a lot of them. Don't expect to finish any degree in 4 years if you're transferring in. There's no social life here because the school is filled with pasty nerds. This is the worst school in the state of Maryland (and possibly in the US). Several buildings on campus are run down (the Sondheim building has even had asbestos in it). The quality of the food is poor and it's overpriced. The social life sucks. It's not a well-known school outside of Maryland. And most importantly, classes are insanely difficult (especially for STEM majors). The classes aren't designed to weed out the slackers. They're designed to weed out the people who try their absolute hardest (and sacrifice things such as sleep and a decent social life) but can't keep up with the immense workload thrown at the students and/or approach assignments with the same exact mindset as the professors. Exams are geared less toward understanding important subject material and more toward deciphering what the professors are actually asking. This school is nothing but a weed out school. I know students who are very intellectually gifted yet still struggle with courses only because of the professors. Almost every professor, by the way, couldn't care less about students and (one would think) they take pride in handing out bad grades – maybe because it inflates their ego of "how brilliant they are compared to others". One more note on the courses – for many courses there is one week between the final exam and the last normal exam of the semester. The biggest mistake I've ever made was attending this "school". I can honestly say that attending UMBC feels like a form of imprisonment. I can't overstate how much I truly despise this school. Please don't make the same mistake I did – go to UMD, Towson, or really anywhere but UMBC.Bucky C

There are a lot of great things about UMBC, the career center is great and there are some top-notch professors. There are some problems though. One annoying thing is they nickel and dime you for everything. Parts of the campus are run down looking and they wont go there during the tour. Most of my professors have been good but my girlfriend who is an art major has had more than one professor that just had students watch online videos instead of teaching them animation topics. -Library carpet is worn out -Chairs in library are so gross your arms stick to them -ITE building has chairs with foam falling out -You must pay to play ping pong or any game in the "game room" -The billing dept gives you very little time to pay the bill and is quick to issue an expensive late fee -Social life isn't great on campus Another thing worth noting that has unfortunately been getting worse is UMBC's leadership imposing their political motives on students through 'updates' on current events. Updates are fine but the vocabulary used in some of the 'updates' is disrespectful to some students who don't agree with the same viewpoints as 'UMBC leadership'. We just got a bill for 13000 more then what we paid last 2 years with no notice that our aid was taken away . I will never recommend this school to anyone we know. My sons went to f and m and Millersville and had a great experience but the way the school handled this situation is a disgrace . They haven’t even replied to my email I sent on June 30 th to the board so I assumed I’m just screwed we have no choice but to pay since already a Junior and can’t transfer. Look elsewhere this place is a true disappoint thinking we were going to a small school which would treat us like they cared ! Not !Kristie

I’m a Ph.D. student School of Business in accounting major, I’ve been at this university for only one semester. I have left since then, becuase of what I went through. Work load is extremely high, and the disrespect that me and my classmates got from the professors is unbearable. Don’t even give it a slight thought of applying here.USA

Education major. I enjoyed my classes and the instructors. I overpaid for what is really a worthless degree because school districts do not want experienced teachers. The issue is experienced teachers have higher salaries compared to new teachers. So while the university can claim a certain job placement rate, the situation changes after a few years on the job. Considering all the money education students have paid Loyola University Maryland, I have never heard about Loyola lobbying for better working conditions for teachers. That's crummy. Every entity wants to take, take, take from education majors but never give back to help our community. I had to pay for my own teaching internship. I thought that was normal at the time, but it's not. Other majors get paid to intern. Do not waste your money on an education degree. Enter teaching via Teach for America or Urban Educators instead. Or better yet, avoid the profession. Please check into the turnover rate.Share D

From the perspective of an African American student, I want to warn potential minorities. I did not experience a really good first year at this school. The professors are not as great as they have told you. At least for the freshman year. A couple of the professors I had, never returned papers and won't send emails. Many times they would change the syllabus and give you last minute assignments. I struggled a lot even with all the extra time I spent on all the classes and getting tutored. This disappointment I encountered has occurred to other freshman students as well. Don't be fooled by the lovely campus now. That's what drew me at first. Not only am I transferring, but soooo many others are also. Be far warned and save some money also. Side note, many Class of 2020 freshman have experienced some unpleasant people. My son is graduating this May and we were extremely pleased with the college. The campus is like a park! My son put a great deal into the College and got back what he put in, a great education, great experiences, a great professional network and great friends. The private school setting adds the lifetime camaraderie. It's small enough that you can actually get to know your professors, yet big enough for professional opportunities. I have tried at least 7 other therapists prior to being referred to MHW by my PRP assistant through my insurance company and I couldn't connect/wasn't comfortable with any of them. So, I was never 100% honest with them as a result. But the very first appointment I had I walked in and noticed the crystals everywhere and just a generally welcoming atmosphere and the receptionist was amazinggg. Then in my appointment I found it incredibly easy to talk to my therapist and had a connection. I also saw another therapist while mine was gone for a month and a half a few months ago and they were absolutely amazing too!!! They believe in the holistic side of psychiatry and healing power of meditation and crystals, etc, but they don't push it on those who don't believe in that kind of thing though at all. They also have psychologists on site for medication management for those willing to take that route as well, of course. I really can't recommend trying this place more! ive been seeing ms.nasim for about almost 2 months now. shes the first therapist who is actually helping me and i felt comfortable with her very quickly. in the past most of the therapist i had are just there to listen and dont help me dig deep into my issues, which ms.nasim does. she has no problem making an emergency appointment when i need extra support. she also has given me extra resources that i can use on my own time to better myself. ms.nasim has always told me that i myself have to make changes and want to change or you wont get better, you typically meet with a therapist once a week for a little less than an hour, it’s important to use what your learning in therapy outside of therapy. even though i havent known ms.nasim long i am very grateful that she is my therapist.Adrianna Paige

Horrible institution. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. The entire college is just a money making scam. They don't care about your education here or your rights to an education. The administration is awful and has no clue what they're doing. If they don't like you for one reason or another they will begin targeting, harassing and attacking you until you get out of their school because they don't actually want you there. They aren't innovative or friendly, all they do is falsely advertise these things. Half of the people who enroll here as a freshman want to GTFO and transfer someplace better at the end of their first semester. This college depresses the students who live on campus. Only send your kids here if you want to waste your time, money, and degrade your child's mental health. Your time and money could be going to a better school that actually cares about the well-being and education of your child. This is an excellent college with outstanding professors who want to know that you understand the instructions/lessons, retain what you were advised, and use what you were taught. The campus is breath taking…you don't mind studying while laying outside on the grass and listening to music or just the winds. The grounds are immaculate. The food is even great. Want to wonder off campus??? Well, feel free but security is "always at the entrance" to assure that students (and associated staff/faculty/friends) are the only ones on campus. It is not only a safe campus but you truly feel secluded from the world when you are there. Before I transferred to Bowie State University, I had reservations about attending this institution because it was low in cost and it had a low grade point average requirement. It seemed to be a last resort institution to me. Though the institution has its flaws, B.S.U. is what you make out of it. If you are a natural born leader, then the institution offers leadership opportunities in the form of Student Government Association (S.G.A) or Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs (A.T.O.D). If you are an scholastic achiever, then the institution offers Honor’s Programs and merit-based scholarships to reward your scholastic achievements. Lastly, if you are a sports-inclined individual, then the institution has a variety of sports teams to help mold you into a well-rounded student-athlete. Aesthetically, Bowie State University has grown tremendously since I graduated in the spring of 2013. The university has made tremendous strides to reconstruct buildings, such as the Christa McAuliffe Residential Hall, Center for Business and Graduate Studies Building, Computer Science Building, Fine & Performing Arts Building and the Student Center, in order to make the campus visually appealing for prospective students and current students. Like any other college, Bowie State has it's issues but I can honestly say that I can call this place home. Everyone on campus is so inviting and welcoming, the professors care about your success (some of them), and the clubs are amazing. College is really what you make it. If you get involved in organizations and in the campus life, you will absolutely love it. The more people I meet, the more I love the campus. Being an HBCU makes it even better, there's a lot of "campus conversations" sessions held a couple times a week where they discuss issues and news of the black community and I love going to every single one of them. The environment is so comfortable and you meet a lot of great people. The dorms aren't the best but the pride and "family-like" community of the university makes up for it. The security at the entrance was rude. When we were told to get in the line for students who didn't have a badge…we sat for 30 mins and it was only 2 cars in front of us. Finally, a blew the horn to get the guards attention…she then told my child to go the Wellness site and upload his vaccine card, etc. All of that was unnecessary bec he had done that a month ago but didn't realize he would need it to gain entry to the campus. The first guard we encountered upon entry should have addressed this when we came in. It was unorganized at the entrance and he ended up being late for his class.Patricia Wimbush

I am very disappointed with the overall experience here. The advisors can schedule appointments and be a no-show and the administration makes excuses for them. The truth of the matter is they honestly really don't care about your academics, your work or in fact YOU. It really is a persona this administration puts on. Someone wrote a review stating the school is good for you as long as you are doing well and that you are doing your part……thats pretty much any college you attend to AND that has given UB room to not be accountable for their tardiness, lack of engagement and no show gimmicks these people do. All of the advisors assigned to me have been horrible and dismissive. Instructors as well save 1 instructor I had to review as outstanding. A complete waste of my money and debt. It is also no place for a born again beliver in Christ as this school is completely anti-christ and you are HATED and accused of being hateful because of the truth. I transferred here after finishing at CCBC, that transition went smooth for the most part. I liked my time here and I graduated. The location is good, right at midtown. Its not all the way into the city which made the drive less intense as a student that commuted. The class sizes were small to medium, not very large which I liked. Evening classes worked well with my full time work schedule. Most of the professors I had were great and also like how they offer career search assistance and workshops both as a student and alumni so some of the services dont stop because you no longer go to that school. The new library looks nice. By the time they redone that building I already graduated so not sure how nice it is inside but from the outside it looks great.S

I received my Master's degree from UB, graduating in August of 2017. After going to undergrad at a university in PA, I can honestly say that my UB experience was much better. The professors were top-notch and actually made themselves available to students. Not only did they help me with my coursework, but they actually took the time to talk about career advice, job searching, and networking. None of this I received back in PA mind you. UB offered many things to do as well, from lectures, guest speakers, and volunteer opportunities. I would go back to this school in a heartbeat. This is the biggest scam of a “university” it’s a glorified highscool with no organization or real resources it’s an absolutely brutal place to try and do anything fun and they will take every dime possible can from you, the people in the office are miserable to deal with and will leave you with an open conversation and no explanation constantly.johan freudenburg

This is a nice college. Since I just graduated from CCBC Catonsville, I have applied here and I like it so far. The administrators are nice and Coppin has nice environments. Please note I am amazed that Subway restaurant is there as well as the grillhouse cafe, dining room at Talon Center, and yes big buildings.Allen Stamper

possibly overshadowed by other HBCUs, COPPIN is a key part of the rich black history that is Baltimore. If we invest in it, it will be a part of the city’s rich future. I dropped by to find ~10 students playing tennis the bookstore was nice the newer buildings with the fancy bridge show wellL Brown

If you are looking for a therapist for your child this is the BEST place to go. Such an amazing, kind, understanding staff. My son & I worked with Sydney and she was an absolute joy.
