Great place to learn, with a safe environment. The grounds are well taken care of, and the staff is very friendly, as well as patient when teaching. Very well at allowing students to understand what is being taught, and provide all the basics when it comes to starting your college credits. The entering staff are knowledgeable in helping you find assistance in areas you aren't familiar with such as tuition, loans and grants. The book store has all the stuff you need to succeed. They have several cafes on campus. The student center is the campus hang out. They have pool tables ping pong and a wide variety of other clubs and activities to get involved in. The mini processing plant on site is a great hands on learning tool they have RIGHT THERE on campus. All of the professors are very knowledgeable and understanding. If you want to learn and earn college credits this is the place. They have an adult learning center for people to get their GED. They're performing arts center for people that like to perform or do arts. Like drawing and painting. Have a nursing program that is top notch. All your basic studies are covered by experience and helpful staff. They have all sorts of activities, and clubs. This cosmetology where they offer haircuts and manicures. They offer instrumentation as well as process technology. They have a judicial class for those that would like to learn about the criminal justice system. They do scrolling all year round even on weekends If you have a 9 to 5 job and can't make it to regular classes. There's athletic program basketball and volleyball, they have a swimming pool weight room and banquet halls for rent. They have several lecture halls on campus as well as outdoor picnic area or study areas. There are some campuses one in Baytown, McNair, and Liberty. So their service area can be reached. They also have helpful Access student resources answer questions about programs and are always willing to go that extra mile and help make student success their number one goal. I must say, the teachers are helpful and the classes are small-yes- but the support staff for the college itself (business office, counselors office, financial aid, ect) are the absolute RUDEST people I have ever met! I work full time, so I try to do most of my business with them via Email, Telephone, or Fax. When you email any of the support departments, they NEVER reply back, once you call them and mention "I emailed y'all a week ago but I never got a response back…here is my question" they just give you the run around, transfering you to 3+ people just to get a vague answer. Just today, I got cut off by the business office when I simply asked if I could pay for tuition over the phone. The "counselors" in the counselors office don't even remotely help you with your degree planning, each one of them will tell you something different so you are basically left to figure it out yourself and hope you get it right. I have talked to all different kinds of directors/administrators about these issues and they NEVER seem to be resolved. Point to my review is this is a good college just to get a degree behind your name, but be prepared to hit a ton of roadblocks/red tape along the way.Kayla W

Love the school, very understanding teachers & other faculty! I graduated from here my first semester of my senior year in high school before deciding to attend UT! Everything was okay all the way up until the 2020 graduation parade. When announcing my name, the announcer made a very uncomfortable mark about my dads corvette mentioning “Nice car where’d you rent that for the weekend?” I didn’t really notice until my sister played her video back after the parade. The car wasn’t rented, that’s HIS CAR FULLY PAID FOR! I didn’t like what he said and if I could see him face to face again any day, I would tell him African Americans can have luxurious and nice things as well! Some comments you keep to yourself! This heartfelt review is difficult for me because I actually attended Alvin junior high and Alvin high school off and on throughout my 12 years. I love this town. I was happy to attend this college for that precise reason. However, there were many many obstacles I went through to get my degree here. Frequently, I had to wait my opportunity cost between a poorly taught class, and a class dedicated towards my profession. This should not be happening. Two things caused this. Professors who do not calculate the time required to perform homework and assignments out of class Is one. The second cause were professors who should not be teaching at all. They are either rude, careless Or have some type of issue within their person. Every semester I had a professor like this even after referencing rate my professor. Eventually because of this college hiring so many professors with personal issues it eventually cost me my accumulative science and math GPA to fall under. Consequently, I would not qualify to enter into university science or math department. Every semester on student loans, I worked 10 hours a day for seven days a week for two years. There should have been no reason why my grades were affected. However, how a professor teaches is one of those things that an individual has absolutely no control over. Because of the poor department management and analysis of teaching from professors by administrative, I will no longer be able to pursue the group degree I intended on pursuing. As a compromise, I had to apply for graduation for a general studies associates to leave this college peacefully, and it not destroy my loan approval or potential to graduate in four years. Best degree plans for this college are governments, English, etc. Stay at another community college for science and math because these departments are seriously on organized and not monitored.Shauna Herrera

Keep Alvin Beautiful greeted at the Alvin City Fall cleanup. Texas Pride and others showed up 2 collect all kinds of trash and recycle. Really impressed with everybody that I got to work with as they had a great attitude and even though most were new to the event they jumped in and made things work well. Really proud of everybody who participated and made this a great event and keeping our city sparkling Update: the EMS and police cadet departments pulled together to do a huge exercise for the training of their students. Using the building abandoned building across the street they staged a mass shooter that the police cadets had to take out and then they pulled in the EMS students to help pick up and treat all the wounded. Was a terrific activity and professionally done. Very fun to participate in as a victim. Update: we had the spring Alvin clean up and had the best participation ever. 151 people brought all kinds of trash, metal recycle, electronics, batteries, paper shredding, and green waste to be recycled. Great place to take classes. My son takes classes here in the summer to transfer to his 4 year university. He has enjoyed all of his professors. I like the school because they have a great enrollment process. They've got a waiting area and they call you up by name and clearly post your name on monitors. I only give 4 stars because of their police department. If you pull through a parking space-ticket. They watch every vehicle and the slightest parking lot infraction can bring a quick ticket. They're using it as a money generator. You've got to read their police handout. A lot of rules are in place that aren't posted and a visitor can quickly find themselves ticketed. I’ve already graduated a couple years ago and wanted to share some of my experiences that just linger in my mind. I once went to the financial aid office, you know, for aid. They shut me down in all ways, and wouldn’t bother to offer any alternate help or information. I remember mentioning I was considering pursuing a career in the veterinary field, to be laughed at and told “that’s not worth it”. Ok. I took art classes to hold on to something enjoyable here, and they were just as disappointing. The professors didn’t care, I didn’t mind that though since I enjoyed the subject anyways. What got me was when I’d go to them for advice, it was always such a beat down to my motivation. I had one who I asked how could I become a tattoo artist, for him to tell me how pointless it is in trying because who would want to teach me to “take their job”. Alright, not the first time I’ve been shot down in any aspirations I dared dream of in this place. I’ve had professors who were mean, tired, optimistic, or even just straight checked out. It’s not completely their fault in the end. I know everything about teaching is hard. I wanted to be an art teacher until I saw the one I had in highschool absolutely torn down from what she had to deal with. Though she always encouraged me to follow through with it, unlike any person in this college. All’s said and done in the end, I got my dinky degree after all. UPDATE: My experience here has gotten worst. Please do not go to this community college. The teachers are unorganized and so hard to reach. The VA advisor Has no clue what he’s doing and after multiple request to change advisor I finally received one. I have to change majors for just one semester to take a class I don’t need, and then switch back to original major before the end of the semester to graduate from this school. Absolutely horrible staff that has no clue what they are doing. If you are contemplating going to this school, DON’T! I transferred here from a community college in San Antonio. My goal is to finish my associates degree in business, I’m having the worse experience here. I have 2 different advisors. One with the VA, who won’t answer any of my calls or emails, and a regular advisor who seems to think all the miscommunication and errors are my fault. The VA advisor signed me up for the wrong degree plan and gave me a list of recommended classes to take, I took one for the first session of this summer and turns out I didn’t need the class for the CORRECT degree plan I should have been under. I have had to make calls every single day to this school to try to get information fixed so money that I am supposed to recieve will come to me. I planned my moving and my family around this while giving myself about a 1.5 month money buffer. They have taken so long that it has almost destroyed my family. I have at this point been begging family for money in order to feed my daughter. I am a gi bill recipient so my expenses are paid for I am just supposed to recieve money back. My teen had an appointment under DR Saba Memon. She practices cookie cutter medicine. I feel like she is following a checklist. She told me what my child is diagnosed with, and she will only start treatment if I jump through hoops, and make more appointments. I left feeling like she does not care at all about my child. I came for help and she refused. She discounts what the parents say and think. She is very dismissive and the other doctors disagreed with her. She did not take what they said into consideration. UT health should do something about her. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she inferred that she has no boss and her word is final. She told me he has ADHD, and I can provide documentation from his PCP and his therapist. I would like to know how to file a formal complaint. This level of care is unacceptable. I was seen at the neurology clinic at the University of Texas Health Science Center when I was considered a candidate for neurosurgery. I had to have a few tests performed before the neuro-surgery to make sure I fit all the criteria and that the brain surgery wouldn't have a catastrophic effect on me. All the neurologists I worked with were excellent, supportive, thorough with the exams and explanations, and very nice to me and my family. Staffs are useless. I do not want to pay a penny to them. They just blame students for every jobs they are mandated to do. They do not work if you do not check. Do not believe them but keep chasing it. All administrative works need to be done by yourself. Do not ask them because they do not know. Rather, ask other students. I really enjoyed the MA program and I learned so much. Something that I really appreciated about the school is that we had ALL the resources we need for certification studying–and all of the professors are extremely knowledgeable about their fields and gave plenty of tips and tricks for how to maximize your potential in the field. The biggest reason I'm sticking to four stars is that I had a pretty bad experience with one of my professors and I don't agree with some of the attendance procedures–having no absences excused unless the school cancels classes isn't reflective of an individual student's situation (I know this first-hand), but all-in-all, it's a nine month program, and the amount you learn and experience completely outweighs the poor aspects.Kendall Eley

I can only speak about my experiences here at Pima but I can honestly say it’s been life changing for me. I’ve completed my Registered Dental assistant program and I’m currently half way through my Radiology program and all I can say is that I’ve had nothing but good instructors in both programs. They really push you towards succeeding and the classes are well developed for you to learn. The prices are a little over the top but seeing how it’s a institute it’s expected. I am currently on the MA program, and it has been a pretty good experience. I am able to have time to study and also work and balance everything else with it. The team of this school is very professional and really care about their students, they are always willing to help you if you need help from them. I really like that they even have tutoring to help you if you struggling in a class. The financial aid department is horrible. The chat for financial aid never answered my questions. They always told me to call the number. What's the point of having chat feature if they can't answer questions. Speaking on the phone with the financial aid department was a horrible. I've been given the run around regarding aid. People kept telling me that I qualify all I need to do is enroll in another class to be part time. Then, I was told that again I would get a Pell grant and loans. I didn't receive aid so I contacted them a few weeks later to find out that I don't qualify for aid. They had me enrolling in courses and everything knowing that I potentially didn't qualify. The financial aid department is either incompetent or just doesn't care about the students. When I was told I was approved were they just making that up to just get me off the phone?Amanda Chandler

This is my first semester at Lone Star and it has been nothing but problems. The student staff are very rude and unhelpful. The front desk financial aid has no idea how to do her job. The book store and the campus are not on the same page. I won’t recommend going here if this is your first semester of college. It is extremely hard to get help from staff. I had to go speak to a counselor there and instead of them taking me to the back to discuss my business they came out to the waiting area and blurted out what I needed to know. In my opinion this was very unprofessional. I didn’t want my personal business being discussed in front of everyone. Please find students that are familiar with their job and are helpful. My daughter went there 2015, 2016 & 2017 after graduating from Humble High in 2014. She wasn’t able to get a scholarship for tennis so the plan was to take courses to raise her gpa and transfer her credits to a four-year college. I’ve had a bachelors degree since 1992 so I know the process. The advisor didn’t want me in the office and my daughter was okay with that. I found out after a few semester that she took math three times and flunked it. Her self esteem is shattered and she doesn’t feel confident that she can transfer. They couldn’t even give the paperwork so I could report her on my taxes. I lost thousands in tax rebates, they are the WORST!!!!Bruce Hickerson

I'm currently having one of the worst experiences ever! I was completely unaware of being enrolled in online classes once the pandemic started. I never spoke with anyone or confirmed this was ok. I specifically chose on campus classes due my struggle with specific subjects. I was unaware until an instructor contacted me. I emailed advising and was removed from the class I was still charged and a hold was put on my account. I have never talked to or discussed classes with anyone for the fall and i am also scheduled and charged for those classes as well. Now i'm told i have to file an appeal to try to have the balance and the hold removed and i cant remove the fall classes until the balance is cleared. Every time I speak with anyone i'm forwarded to someone or a dept. that cant help or explain!Christi Chavis

While I'd love to give a better review, I have to be honest. If you are utilizing veteran services, prepare for a ridiculous amount of wait time. There's never anyone online via chat and when you call if someone answers, it becomes a series of transference to different people or "I'll have someone contact you." This poses an issue as a current student attempting to be successful in class. I am finding it impossible to get a return address for a delivery I received containing 2 bottles of your CBD oil and 2 packets of the CBD gummy bears which was delivered to me by Hermes. I initially wanted to cancel the order but was informed that I could not. I did not realise the total price of these items and then my shock at finding out I was calling USA as I am in Scotland UK. Dr.George was the best instructor ive ever had LET ME TELL YOU! i have never enjoyed school and never made above a B plus but after taking my first module with him i past all my first 3 classes with a perfect score of 100. I took the ACLS Skills course here with Stephen as my instructor. First off, the office is in the black glass building in between the “sugar creek 1 & 2” buildings, Roxell EMT is in suite 104. Stephen was an amazing and super helpful instructor. He was okay with me asking questions and answered them plus gave tips on how to approach different types of situations. As a medical student starting clinical rotations this year, I 100% feel more comfortable following the proper steps and referencing the correct algorithms to best help my patient. The course content is excellent and Professor Juddson is awesome. Being an online course, it was quite the surprise to see the level of response from Texas EMS School whenever I had a question or need. They were flexible and worked with me on getting my rotations completed. As long as you stay on track and meet the deadlines that are given you, the course goes by pretty quickly. Don't think for a minute that it's easy though. Be prepared to commit 3-4 hours per chapter and be challenged. I learned that the variables that present themselves with each case is unique and can have more than one solution. Learning to navigate through the physiology and pathophysiology to help the patient is very challenging and rewarding. If you are looking for an online EMT school that allows you to work and maintain a social/family life, this is what you are looking for.Kevin Murphree

I had a fantastic experience with Axon Education. Their program allows the student to complete assignments, quizes and tests on their own terms. The coursework is challenging and fun. The support from the professors is amazing. I was able to work ahead and finish the course sooner than expected. Yes, it's a difficult course if you don't put the effort into it. But they design the exams to be difficult so that the student is fully prepared to take the National Registry of EMT exam. I passed the NREMT on my first try, and it's due to the rigorous nature of the Axon Education course, and thanks to the professors who endured endless questions from me and always helped to ensure I fully understood the concepts. Pope and Crystal at Fort Worth were both awesome. Between the two of them, we got a lot of the “by the books” way of doing things, and the actual way things will play out while on the job. We got plenty of stories and lived scenarios from Pope that covered everything from patient treatment to self care, and Crystal hammered in solid strategies like PENMAN and GLXABCD that really helped with the medical and trauma assessments. I renewed my BLS certification at this location today and had a great experience! I used the AHA website to reserve my spot, and it was the only place nearby that had availability on short notice and close to where I live. They sent me plenty of reminders to make sure I remembered my appointment and would have everything I needed for my skills check, and the woman running the check was very helpful, and I was in and out in 10 minutes! He said, "I don't understand why you don't get this. It's not that hard." Mind you, this was ACLS… not BLS. I don’t know who answers calls here but they are the RUDEST individuals I’ve ever talked to. I was simply talking about the requirements for an accelerated program since I graduated with my bachelors in Biology but realized I wanted to do nursing. They proceed to cut me off about wanting my SAT score. I took the SAT 10 years ago and when I explained this to them, I was told I was dumb for not taking it??? And I was rudely hung up on bc I didn’t remember my SAT score from 10 years ago! Great university to take classes that is close to home. I am currently enrolled in a few classes that work with my work schedule. The professors are awesome, helpful, and seem like the genuinely care about us. One of my favorite things about this school is the small classroom size so I am able to interact and have a better learning environment.Andrew Alvey

Giving parking tickets 🎟 $25.00 just to pay tuition for my daughter. She's not even going to UH She's going to wcjc. People are rude and don't even want to be bothered by you. Oh you can appeal it but it's useless . You are just paying for pizza day for the employees.April Williams

Update- Issue was corrected. This review is not necessarily targeting the Katy location per say but UHV in general. Good luck with getting financial aid. Financial aid is literally the worse department and really making me despise this school. I have been awarded 3 times and they keep taking it back, right when class is about to start after I've paid over 4K for classes they took back the measly $600 they gave me in financial aid on the eve of class starting. Now I have to go find $700 right before fall class begin or I risk getting dropped from my classes. After I'm done with my fall classes I'm transferring out. I've had ENOUGH of incompetence!!! I'll go where I'm appreciated. BTW I am a first time university student after transferring from HCC, HCC customer service and competency puts this whole school to SHAME . I agree with the comment regarding Veterans. If you are a Veteran you should seriously stay away from this school. A degree from here is more useless than the paper it is printed on. On another note. They turn a blind eye to cheating. Even when substantial evidence indicates someone has been cheating, they will ignore it in favor of keeping their graduation rate high. I sent in a full report regarding individuals cheating and it was completely ignored.Baba Yaga

This new satellite campus is very welcoming and professional! Everyone that is associated with this campus seems kind and friendly. The security in the front is very kind and polite as well, so don't be afraid to ask her a question. The environment is so vibing! I would take classes here if I was you. Very nice small campus with 3 levels, would definitely come and see the programs they offer!Christian Martinez

This is by far the best accelerated program available. From the time you arrive, they make you feel special. Each instructor has their own unique way of explaining the material. They share stories and techniques from years of real world experience. For someone like me, the visualization of actual events was much easier to understand than attempting to visualize the scenarios provided in the book. Not only would I recommend Texas EMS Academy, but I would strongly suggest it. Nowhere else will you get genuine people who actually care if you succeed. I passed my national registry on the first attempt less than a week after the class ended. Although I could have named everyone that was so amazing, it would be a disservice to anyone that I may have forgotten simply because of how outstanding every single person was. If you make the right decision in choosing to attend, you will not regret it.Nick Scott

I can’t recommend this academy enough! They make the 14 days of straight class work and clinicals more than manageable and make sure that you only learn the information that you actually will need to know in the future. The instructors made class fun and were all more than amazing!! They all have experience and again make sure and only teach you valuable information but also make class fun and enjoyable. I passed the NREMT on the first try and this course made sure I was well-prepared!Erin Best

I want to Thank Texas EMS Academy Staff and Instructors for the hard work and dedication they put in during the 2/28/22-3/13/22 2 week EMT course. Instruction was definitely well taught by highly experienced and knowledgeable Paramedics who take thier personal time during thier off days to teach. I want everyone to know I Passed my NREMT on the very first try. Highly suggest and recommend Texas EMS Academy to anyone wanting to pursue a career in EMS. Thank you all once again…Mark Escamilla
