20 Best Medical Assistant Programs In Rochester, NY (2022 Updated)

Both my wife and I were returning college students and Stark State Alumni class of 2012. We both received a great education. She went for respiratory therapy and I went for Graphic Design. The graphic design program was wonderful. The professors were all very knowledgeable and really cared about their students (huge shout outs to Michelle Lash and Eugene Starr). The classes are small and it's very easy to schedule time with the professors if you need help or need to go over some things. It's also nice to have online classes if that's your thing. For the younger students (and older alike), Stark State also hooks you up with SALT at no charge after graduation, which is a useful tool to help find employement after graduation. Luckily I furthered my career without having to use SALT. The biggest recommendation I could suggest would be to offer more of certain classes. Sometimes only one class is offered a semester and can conflict with working hours. Thank you, Stark State and to all of my professors for giving me a great education and giving me a fighting chance in the workforce after graduation. For those who are seeking four year degrees and beyond, Stark State is definitely a great (and affordable) place to start.stephen slusny

I attended Stark State College a number of years ago when it was Stark Technical College. I am surprised by the negative reviews, because I had a great experience at the school. I graduate with a degree in Computer Technology, and the courses were challenging and taught me a lot. I still remember some of the great instructors like Mrs. McBride in my math classes. I even worked there part-time for about a year doing LAN Administration. They have provided me with a foundation for a very successful career in IT. I later completed my Bachelor degree at Kent State. I am currently completing my MBA. I was able to get a copy of my transcripts, even after graduating 25 years ago, by faxing in a request. I did this for two different Universities, and they arrived within a week. In this age there should be a way to do it electronically like Kent State, but at least they do not charge you for them. Overall I had an excellent experience and they prepared me for a very rewarding career in Computer Technology. I absolutely have no regrets about this school, and I enjoyed my time there.Kevin Frazier

I can not believe Stark State has less than 4 stars! This is my second semester and I LOVE it! The faculty are truly amazing and extremely helpful! This college also offers small class room sizes which makes learning more personal. Your teachers and professors always do their best to know each student by name. It is also extremely great for working folks who have busy work loads. They have many courses that can virtually work with any type of schedule. There are many success programs that Stark State offers, including assistance with any subject as well as a great Accommodations program for those with any learning disability/disability from minor to severe. Stark State also always keeps their students in the know through text message and emails. They give you the tools you need in order to succeed. Highly recommend this college!elisabeth brian

Since they have instituted 6 sessions Columbia College has proven they are not about the students. By making this move they force students to take student loans or lose part of their Pell grant due to not being enrolled full time. They try telling their students that 6 sessions per year will benefit them. Being a student that is currently enrolled and have been for a few years now I can tell you it is of no good to the student. Not only does it cost us more but instead of having any type of break between already accelerated courses we only have two days off. This is ultimately going to lead to more stressed out students and lower GPA's. There was a time I recommended this College to everyone I came across. Now sadly I make it very clear Columbia College is the worst college you could attend. It is a joke. Rolla's new policy if we don't offer something you need in seat take it online. Not mentioning that not only are online courses significantly more expensive but the work that is required for these is beyond reason. I am talking at minimum double the workload of an in seat class. The teachers are great, administration from the main campus down is terrible. This is no longer a student centered college no matter what their website portrays.Sean Dahlman

I'm currently enrolled at CC. This is the best college I've ever been to. The faculty is understanding and very helpful. They actually care about your education. My advisor was by far the best. She helped me through some very tough decisions and helped me to make the best financial decisions. I visited the enrollment center 3 times to change classes due to my own reasons and all three times they were understanding, helpful, and encouraging. I also went to the enrollment services about my financial status multiple times throughout the year and they were always there to help. They showed me my financial plan exactly including scholarships, loans, and grants. They explained everything to where I could understand and even printed me copies of my plan. BEST COLLEGE containing the VERY BEST PEOPLE! The other reviews that had one star and rude comments, it's because of their stupidity and closed mindedness. I had a terrible experience at this school. I would highly recommend not going to this college. They do not care about how you as the student does. All they care a bout is your money. You will NEVER hear back from any of your online teachers. I tried emailing a teaching with a question 3 times and not once did I hear back from the teacher. If for any reason you need to withdrawal they will not except it. Even if you withdraw a day or 2 after the deadline, they will make you pay every cent, even if you had good reason for the withdrawal. If you want to attend a college that cares about your needs and your success I would highly recommend choosing a different college because the only thing they care about at this college is getting your money. I appreciate Rasmussen University for having an abundance of resources and many professors and other staff members who demonstrate they want students to succeed. I especially have enjoyed being a peer educator, being privileged to work with Tammy Hopps who is an excellent supervisor and leader, and also being able to work with other peer educators who care for their peers as much as I do. I transferred from a local state college, which I considered sticking with to save money, but in reality, not much is saved when you compare the timeframe for graduation. At the state college it would take me an extra 2 whole years to receive my BSN, whereas at Rasmussen I save 2 years of time because of their second-degree BSN option. I am very pleased with the quality of technology – at the state school blackboard and other resources were slow and did not work as well on my cell phone, whereas with Rasmussen I can easily access everything I need from my phone when I'm on the go. It's inspiring to see so many single parents and married parents in school, some of which also work full time or part time like myself while completing their degree. I had such high hopes when enrolling at this school. However my experience hasn't been favorable at all. I am a current student and I was disappointed because even though I was able to enroll and start classes I really felt unsupported on this journey. I'm realizing Rasmussen may not be the school for me. I REALLY thought I would be supported and encouraged. I was made to feel that Rasmussen would be rooting for me through my academic journey. Instead I am bombarded with emails and calls telling me what I already know… I owe money. No calls or emails about how I can be helped to budget so that I can pay more toward the balance. I'm only being told: what I owe, to get the balance down to $500-$1000 and to take out loans; which will only put me in debt and it's too early to be taking out loans when I've been in school since September of 2021 and have 2 more years. Also this school doesn't cater to single parents, limited income and individuals that HAVE to work. This school ONLY has day classes for the nursing program and as I said before I HAVE to work full time.Sherria Clark

This morning I called the university for the North Orlando Campus for the Nursing program and spoke to the director of Nursing who was discusstingly rude on the phone. I called to get information, He had no patience and told me Not to proceed a career in Nursing because it was Not for me. This was a university that I was so excited to be a part of and be a graduate of Nursing. The director needs to be Fired because he is giving the university a bad reputation. It’s unfortunate that I have to write this review but I am in hopes of MCPHS revising their admissions process for the Physician Assistant Program. I know that I was not the only student this year that was invited to interview and then closed out of an interview spot and placed on a waiting list. When I contacted MCPHS they told me that I may not get to interview after all as they had accidentally invited too many people to interview and did not have the resources to open up more interview dates even though acceptances are not on a rolling basis. How does a top tier medical university not have the resources to interview all the students they invited? By choosing to interview solely the people that happened to secure spots first, not only are they limiting the potential of their incoming class and proving that they only care about filling the spots for monetary reasons, but they are limiting the future of numerous successful students who worked hard to get an interview invitation. When I asked Jordan Hunt (admissions counselor) to make sense of this she was unable to provide a competent answer besides that the university messed up and the incoming students are the ones facing the repercussions. I’m not writing this for myself, but for the other students who were too timid to speak up or who had chosen this school as their top choice and then got screwed. I truly feel bad for some of the other incoming students who do not have other options and were relying on MCPHS. I am very disappointed. MCPHS either needs to change their interviewing process to rolling acceptances (interviewing the top tier students first and then going down the line) or they need to use this model but be willing to open up more dates in case of overflow. Side note: They informed me that students on the waiting list could be notified up to a day before an interview that a spot had opened up. Do they not take into consideration that everyone doesn’t live near Boston or works full-time? Extremely dissatisfied with this supposedly “top tier” medical college.Maddy Frank

Hey guys, good for all the students giving great remarks. I don't know if the school has paid you. I must say i was in the nursing program , ( the set that started 2005) the teachers were very bad. Everything was very difficult, out of 50 students that got into the nursing program only 15 students or even less that graduated from the program. Judy Murphy was very racist, no room for improvement. It was a very bad school. I will recommend another school any day any time as matter off fact the school needs to refund money back to students that paid for tuition. All they care about is your money and not the students. It was a very traumatic experience. It was one of the worst decision i have ever made in life to attend that college. I Owe up to 100,000 in debt with no nursing degree to show for. I thank the Almighty God i got my degree from another school with no stress or frustration. Guys open your eyes and look for another school. I just finished my second-year in PharmD program in MCPHS. I’m gonna transfer to Worcester to study the accelerated program. I have had great time in MCPHS so far. All professors are very nice and friendly. I haven’t met any professor who’s not willing to help student wholeheartedly. They always have office hours to answer students’ inquiries and to clarify the lecture in case the students don’t understand. There are absolutely no discrimination in MCPHS. It’s all about respect. Every MCP student is very welcoming so we have a very close-knit community in MCP. The program is well-designed and bearable. Sometime I feel overwhelmed but it’s not impossible to pass as many people say. You just need to put time and effort and you’ll be fine. In short, MCPHS is a great university for those who seriously pursuit a professional career in pharmacy and health sciences.Bill Nguyen

If I could give this institution zero stars I would be. Don’t waste your time with GCC, they will waste your time and money without any doubt in my mind. Don’t fall for the “it’s a beautiful campus” thing, because for example the nursing program is going downhill according to some alumni I’ve spoken to, who are now clinical instructors. I would never even refer to this place as a school let alone a college. Being a transfer student, I have experience with other more legitimate schools and universities. Professors will tell you they are there to help, but seem somehow to make themselves as inaccessible as possible. I wouldn’t recommend their nursing program to anyone.Joe Cooper

The institution harasses students for vaccines and otherwise caters to their students like they are preschoolers. It's a far cry from past generations of education. Our tax dollars are exporting immoral unethical illiterates unprepared for the workforce.M M

I only attended this school for two months online and I did not like it. First and foremost, the weekend class started, I had double deaths in the family. Only two of the staff members showed any type of sympathy. The only thing my instructor said was to make sure I handed in my work by the extended dead line. Also, when I called the office to get the passcode to activate my student portal, the guy was very nasty. He snapped at me as though I was wrong for calling for assistance. When he gave me the password, he quoted to me as if I were a child and I bet I am older than he is. I saw no professionalism, I was sent an email as admission, and introduction. A lady from Operation Graduation is the one who guided me through the set up, and all. I tried reaching out to my instructor via text and email with a question, I have YET to receive a reply. I didn't like the format of how to retrieve certain information such as emails, financial aid, etc., nor did I like the fact of having to borrow old text books. If you don't get to keep the books and the books are not new, and also if they have no lap-top programs, and the staff sucks, what are the students paying for? I have tranferred elsewhere. 1st This school is a rip off. I am a straight A Student and the 1st problem occurred when I logged into my account to withdraw from a class, I never started any of the work I also did it (withdrew) with in the allotted time frame I never received a conformation. So I logged back in to check if they had withdrew me the following week. NOT. I called an they said well we can't help you . F dropped my 4.0. 2nd part.My employer pays for my school. well they (my employer) hadn't paid in months July 2013, We finally got that taken care of in April 2014 as paid. and In Tech Released my grades and gave me a $721 refund…..Yeah…only to find out June of 2015 that was a mistake. Now threatening me about payment for $1900 from an unpaid balance. BS. Long story short the asses are trying to mess my credit (sent to a collection agency) up off a mistake they CLEARLY made. Dropped into a Indiana Tech University a Norfolk Indiana for a woman’s wrestling camp. The campus is small but incredibly new beautiful and seems to have everything a big university would offer. It seems to be conveniently located on the west side of Norfork here in Indiana close to plenty of amenities. From what I’ve seen the staff and coaches here are top notch in first class very good at conveying information in a modern world atmosphere. This university competes in the NAIA division for sports and it does have several sports that I’m sure you can see from their website. The overall feel of this place is that it’s new it’s clean and it really is a gem. We specifically came here for wrestling camp and to check out the wrestling program which seems to be a new program yet growing fast and improving constantly. I will be completely honest. I did some PSEO courses here and thought it was a nice campus. There is some struggles and problems with the school, but nothing to make this not a choice for a college. Teachers are nice, most of the students are fine and just do there own thing, there is a couple of clubs and activities, and the class sizes see to be reasonable (smaller than JMHS). I think it is a good campus and should be considered an opinion and not thrown to the curb when looking for local colleges.Burner Account

What a joke… My wages are currently being levied for a semester I did not even get to attend! The Financial Aid/Counselor I worked with helped me sign up for all the classes needed for that semester but did not inform me that I had no available financial aid. By the time, I discovered this (3 weeks into class) it was too late to withdraw without paying full price. I called multiple people at the school but all refused to help or did not know how to help. Though some teachers care quite a bit the majority could care less about you and more about there personal life. Scared to walk around without being robbed. Worst school I have ever been too. Terrible when it comes to visitors and what information they tell you. My sister is currently in this place and apparently I can’t visit her. When my mom called them, they told us “only two set visitors can show up to visit the patient.” Nowhere on the pamphlet did it say that. The pamphlet says “immediate family members are welcome to visit during the day” and “other family and friends may visit Monday-Friday”. Also, they said it’s a rule due to covid. Everybody in our family is vaccinated including my sister (the patient) + we haven’t been near anybody with covid at all. Thanks to the hospital to telling us about this policy, my brother and father have wasted just about 3 and a half hours of their day going to visit, told they can’t, and driving back. Also, what happened to the no electronics thing? Everybody was told she was not allowed near electronics, but all of a sudden, she’s allowed to have a zoom meeting via iPad? They just broke their own rule which was already stupid in the first place. This whole place is a disaster.AverageBoi2356

Spent 6 hours at this hospital. They don't seem to do anything but COVID. I told them multiple times I didn't have COVID but they wouldn't be convinced so they sent me home with no diagnosis, convinced they were right. Got my negative test result from them this morning but that doesn't help my 101 fever. People need to trust that a hospital will actually do their job instead of just assuming they know. Really scary and pathetic to think how many people this has happened to.djrethoret

This was my first onsite class with DeVry. I have had such a great experience with my senior project class here at Naperville. Being that it was my first time, I had to get an ID and receive a quick orientation. The onsite staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. In this session, our class was granted the permission to occasionally use the Addison campus for access to the tech playground for our presentations. Our innovative teacher, Professor Rucks, encouraged us to explore and utilize the facility to aid in our course work. When I needed academic advice and assistance, Mr. Dufresne, Assistant Dean of Academic Excellence, made himself immediately available and went out of his way to make sure my needs were met. Professor Nichelle Manuel made Database Essentials for Business w/ Lab worth every hour taking this class valuable. Her instruction during the lectures made everything that i read just *Click* every week. Her patience with the class really came through when a classmate needed help to clarify a task in our Lab. She made the class easy to understand and learning a new program very valuable. this class has helped me in my career by helping me improve on my relationships at my current employer by knowing how the program taught is the same one used at my place of employment. My school experience at Keller has been great from the start and I can honestly say it has been mainly due to the awesome faculty and professors. My last class Applied Managerial Statistics (Math534) just ended and it was again evident that because of professors like Dr. Al, who has the patience to teach and listen to students needs, that I was able to learn a lot more that I thought I would. I went to their welding program for three weeks after welding on pipe line and compressor stations for over three years. I wanted to become better at my job while I had some downtime but I quickly came to realize that none of the instructors could even weld so I left and went back to work wanting to stay home I got a local job in Memphis welding pipe and they said that only about 1 in 50 that they test from Delta tech can actually even pass. This company also said that they fired the Delta tech instructors because they couldn’t weld. Then three weeks after I dropped out they sent me a letter saying that I had missed more than 14 days without notifying them and I needed to sign a different drop form with the Slyy on it I refused and they won’t even call me back because they’re trying to charge my student aid Even though I paid cash they’re crooks. Don’t waste your money sending your kids here look into Arkansas elite welding academy they’re jam up hands. I’ve worked compressor stations with two of their instructors and they were the guy that Weld Boss went to ask questions on how to do things they were the best on the pad.ECC

Delta Tech school teachers are viewed as incompetent when dealing with natural hair. Prices for services sometimes are ok. A wash and blow-dry had my hair feeling like a brillo pad because they use inferior products and / or products not being used correctly for your hairtype. I completely understand why former students have returned to school to learn natural hair because all they want to teach you is chemical services. Women of color learn to love yourself so that you will not think you need to alter the appearance of your hair.Cassandra Herring

Thought this would be an amazing school after hearing good things. But sadly I had a bad experience with my advisor and quickly realized if I’m treated like this before I’m even enrolled what would happen when I am. My advisor barely knew who I was and constantly asked where my parents were (btw I’m 22 so my parents don’t need to be on my paperwork). She would never contact me and couldn’t keep track of my paperwork I sent.Faith Turner

If I could put no stars I would. Okay so I was doing pretty well in the college at first all A's and B's everything was going great! Until I ended up having to help out with rent so I had to get a job, and being a mother also I am one of the few who would NOT want to put that much stress (job, kids, and school) on myself. So I call them and tell tell whoever (if only I remembered her name) my situation and how I won't be able to attend anymore, and she ends up asking me all these questions like why am I withdrawing and questions that shouldn't really be asked because she didn't even say it's policy or anything, she just wanted to know. So I tell her I'm starting my new job soon and she asked me the one question that just actually made me done with her, she asked, "Are you sure you're not able to do all 3?" as in all 3 she means taking care of my child, going to work, and going to school. Let that sink in. It actually made me even more frustrated because she was telling me that if I did now it would cost a lot to pay back, but listen if I have to withdraw I have to. There's no 'Are you sure you want to?' So they said they'd call and tell me the rest of the details so we can get through with the withdrawal process and I haven't gotten a call yet but what I did get was an attendance email from Outlook telling me that I won't be able for eligibility for my financial aid if I miss 14 days. Wow. So, I'm going to call them now because this is ridiculous and I do not have time. But if you do go to this school, please be careful. i know that other people will have a better experience or whatever. But this is not one of them.AiKitty Chan

I was excited to start my online career here. However the guy in admissions that was assigned to me was not for me. He was not personable at all I only spoke to him one time and that was for five minutes he never explained anything just said he will send me an email if assessments that was it never heard from him again I tried email him several times never received a email or a phone call until five day later stating to complete more assessments I had questions and he did not answer them . I tried calling to see if I could get someone new they said no I had to work with him. 1. They don’t offer free counseling to students. I can’t imagine a university not caring about their students mental health 2. The bus schedule to pick students up to bring them to the university is unclear and the coach for Soccer said she never sees it either 3. You don’t have a credit union. Many students don’t have credit and credit unions are a great/safe way to help students open up into that world. UW Green Bay has all of these things. When you’re looking for a job they don’t care if you go to a private college or not. Your experience trumps everything, so consider that before applying.Blue Lagoon

Straight As but with horrible problems. The issues started before I even transferred to the CDL program. When I was a general student my adviser (at that time) told me that Independent studies were only available on site; not true. When I asked her why I couldn't take all my classes online, as advertised, she said that there was no fully online option; not true. I transferred to CDL because the woman at the FRONT DESK apparently knew more than my adviser. But once in CDL, I realized I was essentially on my own, and under the thumb of a lot of incompetent people. CDL is extremely unorganized and separate from the rest of the school. You have to be under an adviser to do anything, and if they're incompetent it can totally derail getting a degree plan approved. The process ruined my ambition for school for a whole year and a half afterward. School is my escape, and I lost that. When I read the guidelines/requirements for the degree plan, I knew exactly what needed to be done. When I asked for clarification my adviser mislead me on every aspect of the process. I wrote (1) 70 page plan, (1) 50 page plan, then (1) 32 page plan– NONE of which were even read. The ONLY PERSON responsible for putting committees together for approving plans was the rudest person I have ever spoken to via email. He also could not effectively explain why my degree titles were not appropriate until the final plan. This process made me insane because I knew what was necessary in the first place– a basic, straight forward, 5-7 page plan….something cohesive and to the point. I literally had to educate them on what "Interdisciplinary" even meant. Everyone kept forcing "Multidisciplinary" studies on me– which is something different. I'm still surprised at how many problems I had to deal with. They wanted to impose on me what they knew how to do…. They're not used to students actually wanting to be scholars. My original plan was degraded by my adviser (and changed without consent!! What she changed were vital points, and she even submitted it with errors). She told me incorrect information, which made me feel defeated, and she suggested irrelevant things. By the end I felt extremely manipulated. After almost 2 years she finally admitted that she didn't know what she was doing and reached out to other advisers experienced in "Interdisciplinary Studies." But by that point I had already talked to 7 people for help, which went no where. I had already spent 2 years trying to get out from under her ignorance– My morale was already ruined. But the advisers she reached out to were supportive of my plans. They were excited about them– too bad my adviser refused to share their names!!! Extremely frustrating system, very bad organizational issues. Financial aid also "forgot" to submit my application for scholarships when I was nominated– Financial aid also told me that someone denominated me. They said that they were looking at a letter stating that they did not recommend me– then upon closer inspection, financial aid said that there was never a letter, they had no idea who said it, and that it's not even possible. Furthermore, teachers cannot nominate you! Only your adviser can nominate. This to me is ridiculous, as my professors actually see/read my work. While, I've received honors scholarships since then, it's still frustrating that no one knows what they're even doing. By the time I got to the SINGLE PERSON who could help me the damage had already been done, and I had already dealt with it all by myself, and never got the degree title I even wanted– which would have been acceptable per FAFSA/Federal regulations. The teachers however are fantastic and the literature from the courses I've taken have taken root in my heart. I absolutely adore the pieces of literature relevant to course material in my field (Cultural Studies: Philosophy, History, Literature), and independent studies are awesome. That's the only reason I can still recommend this school. I have also met 2 other students who have had asinine issues like my own, some worse.Stephanie Michelle (JOY)

This review is based on my experience of one online class this college provided, which I was able to transfer credits from. The online class I took was principles of finance (BME), cost me about $1300. My professor was J. Visconti. I had to retake this course b/c i failed it at my main university. I learn more retaking this course than I did my first try. Several reasons: I had a Great professor. We used excel (better tool and relevant) instead of a old school financial calculator. Instructor's commentary of the lessons were impeccably relevant and sound) I was able to further understand the connections between real world usage of the learned knowledge. In my case, YES, online version of this course is much better than class room style. Since, I have taken both styles of classes, I would recommend taking "principles of finance" online, preferably with J. Visconti. If business is not your major, i would still recommend this class for personal knowledge. For me, this class was required as an elective for my major and I am glad I took it online.Richard Lim

Overall if you’re an adult with limited time this is the college for you. There are better colleges out there but this isn’t the worst either. It is an accredited Suny school which I think holds more value over some of these diploma mills. The college isn’t supportive and the mentors from my experience do absolutely nothing. In their defense though it can be quite hard because they are full-time professors as well. The problem is that they require a mentor to hold a doctorate degree which is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been doing Penn Foster online schooling for almost a whole year now. I’ve found this online experience a great one. They are very helpful in all ways possible. I’ve called a few time and their stuff is helpful and kind. They help so much with the questions you ask and reassurance you need. You go at your own past, fast, or as slow as you want. I’ve struggled so much in the past with schools , I’ve been to over 6+ schools and I started at the point have an IEP/ taking classes for it. Penn Foster online High School, has helped me understand so much and I love how I can learn at my own past. The price is also reasonable. I can stay up till 3AM and do my work. I’ve finished a class in a whole week at times. I’d stay really hard. Not only that Penn Foster always keeps you up to date on thing that are happening with your account. I am the mother of two students at Penn Foster who just graduated. They are 15 and 17 years of age. They were placed in Penn Foster due to being bullied by teachers at their local school. My oldest enrolled with 0 credits in Oct of 2019 and my youngest enrolled with 7 credits in June of 2020. My oldest graduated Dec 07, 2020 and my youngest graduated Dec 23. 2020. They loved that they could go as slow or as fast as the wanted. They loved not having a schedule or having to have any interactions with teachers. Their overall experience was great. I have one more student, my 16 year old step-daughter working on it now. She's 41% done. We also have a 14 year old who will be enrolling once done with 8th grade. Attentive and friendly staff. The office is nice, and filled with plants. Even better, the equipment is new, including chairs with built in water dispensers and drains, x-ray in the exam rooms. I’ve seen three of the dentists, all of whom were lovely – very friendly, didn’t make me feel rushed, spoke in clear language I could understand, and took time to answer all my questions. I have some specialty needs which are being followed and managed within the practice, meaning I don’t have to be referred all over town to other practices to have my dental care needs met. I chose this practice based on their website stressing the friendly environment and high level of devotion to patient care, and have been glad to find that all to be true and accurate.Shira Winters

I called this morning because I had broken a front tooth while eating dinner last night. Not only did they get me in a couple hours after I called, but I was only there for about a half hour total! They were extremely friendly, clean and efficient. I am extremely happy with the way it came out. You would never be able to tell I ever had an issue. I can’t even feel the difference myself. Our daughter had hip surgery was conducted at the Mayo Clinic Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center in Rochester, MN. Let me start by saying that our surgeon was great and so far the surgery to alleviate our daughter’s chronic hip pain has been successful. We are very grateful for this and I give him 5 stars. However, there were several negatives to our overall experience with Mayo that people need to know about and that’s the reason for the 2 star rating overall. 1. Due to their odd scheduling protocol, you get a proposed surgery time, but don’t find out for sure if you’re really having surgery the next day until you call a phone number at 8:15 PM the night before. Really? This is absolutely what I call “Medical Arrogance” and assumes that your patients need to have ultimate flexibility and you have none. 2. When we came back for a post op office visit to get sutures removed the surgeon left it up to one of the Jr. Doctors to take care of it. She missed a suture, which my daughter had to point out to her. She did have a suture removal kit but seemed ill prepared when one of the sites started bleeding. She fumbled around looking for something to stop the bleeding and finally found a likely not sterile piece of gauze and simply dabbed the site before closing it with steri strips. No alcohol, or other cleansing agent was used. Two days later back home we discovered it was infected. We had to properly clean up a pus filled, blood soaked site with sterile gauze and alcohol and reclose with our own steri strips. At no time during our office visits did we see a nurse. I think a nurse would have been helpful in this situation and more adept at the proper cleaning and care of a suture site. 3. After surgery, we had a prolonged yearlong battle with United Healthcare insurance over payment for one of the procedures. We had to appeal their denial decision three times. Again, our surgeon was very helpful in providing letters to make our case (and his) that the procedure was proper and justified. However, the business side of Mayo and their billing office were absolutely worthless. They were nice enough on the phone but they told us we had to do the appeal. Later we found that they should be the ones doing the appeal. They claim that filed a first appeal but that is totally incorrect. They simply responded to a request for documents, which is not the same as filing an appeal. When we requested that they file an appeal they rudely said no we’re not going to do an appeal and you just need to pay your bill. In other words, we just want your money! I can’t believe that they had no interest in defending their own surgeon who was being accused by the insurance company of performing an undiagnosed procedure that was “not well studied, safe and effective.” Eventually we prevailed against the insurance company by getting an external review. This occurred with no help at all from the billing/business side of Mayo. They didn’t care whether the payment came from insurance or the patient. They just wanted their money! To make matters worse, after they were paid by insurance they delayed issuing us a refund. I had to call and bug them twice to get them to issue a refund to us for the money we had already paid them. Clearly, they have no concept that not only are you a patient but you are also a customer.Kevin Wier

good place to get tests done in one place (providing your insurance is notified in time) – Doctors ?… very much depends on your luck! If your 'admitting' doctor is useless – you are doomed to pointless tests, one-sided conversations, and wasted time and money. ***YOU CAN NOT CHANGE A DOCTOR YOU ARE ASSIGNED FOR THE DURATION OF VISIT – "THESE ARE THE RULES"*** Some barely listen, nor look at the previous analysis or diagnosis. No matter how much you insist. Some are antiquated derelicts (literally) – charming but barely functional, Unfamiliar with Internet to look up condition or outside diagnosis unknown to them. EXPERT ADVICE/ BROAD EXPERTISE = >0 Clinic's fame seems to be based on excellent marketing and advertising efforts. Do your own research and Demand to know which doctor you will see In Advance. It will save you few $K on travel and lodging.Kt Babs

Absolutely the most phenomenal clinics, staff, doctors etc. Everyone is so kind, compassionate and caring. They truly listen and care and understand all your questions and concerns and have a plan together. Thank you so very much for explaining everything to me and for caring so much. After my abdomen ultrasound, they left me in the waiting room for over 30 minutes. They didn’t know I was finished and ready for the CAT scan of my lungs. A very poor system of managing your patients. You wasted my time. You subjected me to more germs by having me sit in the waiting room for over 30 minutes. One lady threw up at the check-in desk. I had to go back to the check-in desk to inquire about my appointment because so much time had gone by. The clerk didn’t even know I was finished with my ultrasound. No one ever told her. I was a bit nervous about my scheduled MRI- I was welcomed with a smile. Was called back early even, by Dan who also had a great big smile. Dan told me exactly what to expect, super professional and compassionate & caring at the same time. Answered all of my questions – with respect. I was treated as a whole person who mattered. I can say my MRI was a fantastic experience because of Dan and the team. Highly recommend this facility. I’ve had more than a few MRIs, this by far was the most positive experience of all. The only negative is that the building isnt clearly marked as to being Borg Imaging. Once I was sure of being at the correct address, the entire experience was great. Beginning with the secretary who checked me in from the start to the assistant who took me back and the woman preforming the procedure, the experiences were all top notch . I was of course a little nervous but this was put at ease every step of the way. I highly recommend . Wonderful people. Other aspects like cleanliness and timelines were all well above average!Kimberly

I’ve been a regular patient since 2014. I chose Dr Blum and associates because I had great history using their office as I was growing up. Everyone who works at Dr. Blum and Associates are absolutley amazing! Their office is truly is the best option for dental care. His entire staff is very professional. They take care of you. I started seeing Dr Blum when I was a teenager through my early 20's, and came back to his office as an adult in my late 30's. I am so glad I did. I see Dr. Dakwar now, and just like Dr.Blum she is amazing. I always had a fear of going the dentist, and have to admit was pretty scared to go even for a cleaning. Each visit I left Dr Blum's office I would think to myself all that worry beforehand was a waste!! Now as an adult I can say to anyone who asks me, "my dentist is the absolute best!" EVERY single appoinmtent I have ever shared with Dr Blum & Dr. Dakwar, I am always given excellent denatl care. I am so pleased with my results. I switched to this practice after using a practice that multiple family members have used for years. Fred is one of the most kind, gentle, genuine human beings I've come across in 52 years. They have corrected things my other dentist just let go. They have refilled a filling. They have put caps on my teeth on both the top and bottom on the front teeth,which is a result of years of gritting my teeth. They taught me how to properly floss and how often I should do that as well as the importance of rinsing my mouth with mouthwash. Chen Family Dentistry is a small and cozy little place that makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. The entire building is tastefully decorated, which reflects the expertise awaiting you. Dr. Chen is kind and patient, and happy to explain everything in layman terms. There are small details all throughout the business that show how much the staff truly cares for their patients, such as air purifiers in every room and really comfy chairs. Dental work is something I have always been terrified of but I truly feel comfortable with Dr. Chen. I know that she will be slow and patient and prioritize my comfortability as a patient.
