20 Best Sonography Programs In Detroit, MI (2022 Updated)

This place is a disgrace. The many of the professors refuse to meet outside of their office hours, even when their office hours are during another class. As of now I can count no less than 10 broken vending machines on campus, some that haven't been fixed in 4 months! I've called both CMU and the vendors, and neither one wants to fix the machines. I guess they don't want to make money. The parking meters aren't maintained. I found one of the only available parking spaces near the Univerity Center. It was filled with quarters so much that it couldn't accept any more, so I was unable to pay my meter. You supposedly can pay with an app, but it's only available for iPhone, and I have an android, so i want able to pay that way either. I came out to find I had been ticketed for not paying for a space (I didn't have a student pass at the time). This is an absurd business practice. The bathrooms smell like urine all the time, especially in Pearce Hall and Engineering Technology buildings. I have found the same filth left on the toilets in the bathrooms several days in a row. Considering the volume of traffic, those bathrooms should be cleaned twice a day, but at least once a day. The engineering building is the most frustrating sight on campus. When it rains heavily multiple buckets are used to catch the leaks inside the building. There are almost no places to plug in your phone or laptop because there aren't enough electrical outlets in the common areas, and of the ones that are present, many aren't working or are broken. The only reprieve is an extension cord that someone plugged into the cooling of the first floor to access from the common area on the second floor. Otherwise, in order to charge your phone or computer, you have to sit on the floor like a child playing with his toys because the only outlets available are in the middle of a hallway and are meant for maintenance for cleaning rather than students. Basically, you will not find working electrical outlets in the same place as seating areas on campus. All of the sectional furniture in engineering should have been replaced 5 or more years ago, it's all stained and broken down or torn to the point that goodwill probably wouldn't accept it. There are no study rooms in the entire building, making it hard to find places to work on group projects without leaving to make room for a class. The printers in this building are a joke. Most of the ones in the classrooms are blinking because they are out of toner, paper, or just gave up on life. When they are working they often aren't accessible to student accounts and I have to go to the front office to print, except that I have to convert whatever I need to print into a pdf because that's all it accepts. I guess it's too much to expect when they don't even know how to install the door stops in the correct place to…eh…stop a door. I will amend this review when I see that my tuition dollars are being used effectively demonstrate basic maintenance and upkeep on campus. Since no one is interested in fixing the problem, hopefully posting here will make this more of a priority for Central Michigan University.christopher chism

I had a great experience attending this School. There is so much diversity here and different ethnic groups. When I was there I lived in Calkins Hall. It was an all girls Hall back then. I learned so much and made so many lifelong friends. It changed me forever as a person. This is a really good School to go to in a small town. There are lots to do. No a good place to take a home inspector class you have 60 hours to read a huge book, and triton college push you to get brand new book but all the material they show you is from 1900, therefore the teacher encourage you to just read the book because their old material doesn't Match with the new book, nothing is updated. Plus If you miss 1 point on your exam you lose the whole course and have to do it again because they don't give you another chance to take another test even for one point and expected to pay all again.so you waste your time,your money..and all over it the instructor says that if English is not your first language you are in the wrong place and makes comments all the time about people's accents. Clean, friendly, cool school. I was in the A building, the lady in room A126 was VERY nice and quiet since it was a testing room. They even have FREE feminine products in restrooms for women. I asked about future classes and the lady who helped me initially was VERY pleasant and turned her computer screen around to show me how to navigate the schools website!! Its the cheapest college in the area and you get what you paid for. The staff in the financial aid, business and student advisory are some of the most incompetent people you will ever meet. Time and time again they ask for documents because they lose them every semester. Several times I had to straighten out financial issues after the geniuses had assured me it wouldn't be an issue, then the idiots deny it. The housing director for the dorms is exceedingly callous and cold, if you have a personal issue with your housing or you want to leave early because a job – she wont care. Prepare to have an apathetic housing staff give you the run around, not mean what they say and then deny it if you bring it up, same with all the staff. If I wasnt borderline homeless I would have never come here. Ask any student the competency level of this barely functioning organization and you'll get the same answers. The teachers are decent, every thing else is a big heap of stinking garbage that can care less about you, and their actions reciprocate that. Enter at own risk.Alec Cope

The school is very clean. Like all schools, this one is a business as well. If your going into the nursing program, just know for an associate this is very accelerated. They cram so many chapters and things you need to know in one semester. I felt the stuff they were teaching us will never be used in the real world. You have to maintain 77% to continue in the program. If you fail two classes within your program you cannot apply to the school for 5 years. If you try to withdraw it has to be above 77%. If you withdraw and under 77% it’s a failure. My stress level was so high for months. The do not want you to pass. It’s either you know the content or don’t. No tutors or ways to make up points to help you pass. They expect you to be a book smart nurse; not a real world nurse. Overall, it was ok.Faith N.

Lake Michigan College trail is a nice trail that can either start behind the athletic field or start behind the back of the Mendel Ctr. It takes you in the pines and oaks along a winding little path with small stream waterways and to a place that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of college life. Enjoy the cleared paths and if you get tired take a break on one of the wooden benches. It's a public trail, free parking, I think it is dog friendly, and nature friendly as we saw and heard many birds. Go out and explore and happy trails.Danielle Buhrfiend

The teachers are great and the campus is nice but trying to get financial aid during COVID is impossible. The financial aid advisors are rude and don’t seem like they want to help you at all. Just because of this reason I will not be recommending MHCC to any of my friends and would suggest to go to Clackamas Community College where they are much, MUCH more helpful.Dima Poperechnyy

They make you jump through hoops and pass you around with little to no help. I plan on transferring here to finish my MBA and so far the institute has been awesome, very helpful and informative. One of a few schools if you meet undergrad GPA requirements (3.4+) for their program you can skip the GMAT and gain entry into their program. Extremely fair cost of attendance @ roughly $570 per credit hour. Look forward to continuing this relationship! The professors are amazing. You really have a feeling that they want you to succeed. Once you graduate they really just drop you. I tried working with career services and they only met once then dropped you. Really disappointed in the behavior of no longer a check coming in we no longer care. I have an amazing work history with several degrees but this new degree is transferring over to something new. So I really wanted help in the job search and advice in moving into something different. I wonder what their actual job placement percentage is. I am just so disappointed because it really could be a great school and the professors really have a passion for teaching.Natalie Roe

I attended night classes to try and finish my degree as an adult. I am told that classes during the day are very different. My experience was incredibly frustrating. The professor of my computer class struggled to log in to her computer and often asked me to help answer questions for the class. I took a speech class and the professor did not grade students on an even scale. The highest grade in the class was the student that wrote her entire speech and then read it without ever looking up. That is only a couple. Almost every in seat class was poorly taught.Shanleyhan

Honestly, should have listened to everyone discrediting this school. Cheaper ain't better. This school has stressed me out and I've only been attending for one semester. They keep changing my aid amount, will not reimburse my refund and all together have made my college experience a nightmare in hell especially with me working full-time. It always something new going on with my financial information for the following semester and new requirements that were completed prior to me attending resurfacing. Who has the time to keep re-ensuring that they're getting the money they already previously accepted? It doesn't matter how early you send your FAFSA in, they will find a way to have it reprocessed so late that you won't recieve the amount you already accepted. Very poor experience, people don't care about the disabled students, they had charged me over $1k for not helping me get into my classes and they've abandoned me in 2010. One star for absolute failure. Edit: 9/14/2022 this so-called trio program from Owens community college isn't helpful not resourceful of how am I supposed to go to college, they sign me up late not knowing I'm missing out on my assignments and these advisors in the school are lazy and rude like they don't care for the disabled students such as myself. Attended Owens and completed an Associates degree in 2001. Returned to a local area 4 year college to complete a Bachelor of Science. Due to the high cost and mediocre experience. I chose to take as many transfer classes as possible at Owens. A full time semester was a fraction of a 4 year college semester. Pretty rigorous course material and most importantly, courses are well structured, you could actually work ahead following the syllabus. Students and staff are pleasant. Have my 4 year degree, and returning to Owens for certificate programs to fill in the gaps from said 4 year college curriculum.Brent A.

When I was looking into going to Ross I was a little apprehensive because I wasn't sure if this program was really any good. From the minute I walked in the door all my apprehension was gone!! The admissions staff made me feel right at home and walked me through the process step by step and answered all my questions. The financial aid staff was wonderful and answered all my questions about my financial aid and got it processed quickly. The school director was absolutely the best!! She takes time to actually sit you down and find out how you are doing in your courses and she is available to fix any problems you may have. The instructors are very friendly and knowledgeable about the subjects they are teaching you and are also available to answer any questions and offer whatever help you may need. Career services literally will not stop looking for employment for you until you have a job in your field. Honestly so disappointed. A complete lack of communication from day one. Today should be my graduation date, and I can't even get an email response about anything. The education I received was so far off track from what I was told I would receive (Billing and Coding) and I think I might be qualified to answer phones and make minimum wage now that I am done. I get plenty of communication about sharing on social media but cannot even get a response about what I am to do next now that my qualifications for completion are met. Updates needed for the sake of the teachers and students as far as efficacy goes. Machinery such as autoclaves and centrifuge could stand to be updated as well. All staff and personnel at Ross is absolutely wonderful and I have and will continue to sing this school's praises. I can't believe how quickly time flies when you're having fun learning and meeting others with the same goals. All teachers were extremely personable and helpful. When I first started signing up for my MBA I advised them that I had just graduated with my bachelors degree. My goal was to start August 5, and I submitted all my necessary paperwork and cooperated as such. When it got to my transcripts I was advised I could not start because the conferral date was not on the transcripts. The enrollment specialist told me to reach out to my previous school. I did and it was a hassle. I called the enrollment specialist at Capella to advise of the updates to only find out that Capella’s registrar team had already been in contact with my school. I wanted to start on the 5th as it was very discouraging to go through the process to be turned away at last minute. 1). Total waist of time as I took time out of my day to complete orientation and do what they advised of me. 2) I asked to speak with a supervisor who was very vague and could not provide the information needed. 3) I again called Capella to try and escalate the situation, but the manager never returned my call. I feel as if they had me sign up because they were the ones to get paid for each student to enroll and failed to educate me properly in the beginning, which is very misleading and discouraging. Since no one wanted to comply and take responsibility I will be escalating this to the BBB as this is not my fault and I should had been able to start in the promised time given and should have been educated properly.Tearra McCray

The worst university ever! They made me waste my time and my money from the first day, every time I communicated with them each counselor told me something different, and more than a month passed and I did not have an accurate answer on the status of my application, after a month a person from human resources let me know that I had to do my transcripts equivalency again on another website because the one I had already sent twice to them waiting for they review it (and that they themselves told me it was okay to do it that way) was not valid for them to take me into account to start the course this past October. 1- First time the transcripts were not encrypted, so they asked my to ask the institution they send it again but encrypted this time and I did it and sent it again. And after that they let me know that didn’t work for them. So I wasted my time, my money and above all the opportunity to start on the desired date. A very bad job of the staff. Very bad communication with the students who want to start there, and they also contradict each other. They all say different things and waste your time. They are also very rude. From the beginning of my Master's level school search, Capella stood out. I had a great recommendation from a friend already, but in researching complete online programs to work with my schedule, Capella checked all of the boxes I needed. I had a wonderful experience with my admissions counselor and continue to have great interactions with all communication. For the best experience, you must be proactive and you must advocate your goals and you must explore where you want to go. Tuition is reasonable and scholarships can be abundant. The ideal setup, depending on one’s circumstances, is to start here and use Lansing Community College to get to the next destination, whether it is a sought employer or university. I strongly recommend networking and using all available resources to find and develop a constructive resonance with potential instructors. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. There are countless people and support services ready to help people of all backgrounds and needs. Be advised and cautioned that the summer semester can be a bit more challenging due to its condensed schedule and that online classes tend to have some trade-offs that need to be carefully considered. There have been many notable infrastructure investments and student life improvements for activities and events. Of course, parking can be a bit of a trick sometimes, but carpooling or finding alternative nearby locations can reduce expenses. Make sure to apply for FAFSA as soon as possible for prime planning. By going here first and developing a strong core foundation, one can also save a lot of money rather than paying higher prices for comparable education elsewhere. Also, Lansing Community College develops strategic partnerships with many higher learning institutions and even hosts the joint University Center at the downtown location. I went to the Livingston campus right out of high school. I had great professors and loved my classes for the first few semesters, then everything started to fall apart. The front desk staff was rude, they weren’t consistent with their information and I almost lost my financial aid because they gave me the wrong information. Then a semester or two before I left, I took an online business class that was so all over the place I had to call the professors office and tell her that the due dates were off on the schedule, and then she argued with me without even looking at the schedule. Once she did she realized the dates were wrong and she changed them. But she must have been bothered by my call because I aced every assignment in that class and ended it with a 4.0, but she must’ve docked that after final grades went out because on my transcript I noticed it said that I ended with a 3.5, which I know wasn’t true. Now I have no proof and can’t change it didn’t because I didn’t notice it until after the semester was over. Very aggravating.Kaitlyn

Some of the teachers at Lansing community college are awesome! However, I am not impressed with the community college as a whole. One of the reasons being I feel their classes require you jump through a lot of more hoops that I have encountered while attending any university. For example, they require a lot of placement tests, which I did not encounter while attending Ferris State University. Also the graduation rate is very low!alexis timmons

I will be graduating from Carnegie's Medical Assistant program in December of 2018. Hoping that a good career would fall into my hands, finally getting the perfect one for me was just what I has hoped. Carnegie Institute was the best decision ever made. I’ve been doing Penn Foster online schooling for almost a whole year now. I’ve found this online experience a great one. They are very helpful in all ways possible. I’ve called a few time and their stuff is helpful and kind. They help so much with the questions you ask and reassurance you need. You go at your own past, fast, or as slow as you want. I’ve struggled so much in the past with schools , I’ve been to over 6+ schools and I started at the point have an IEP/ taking classes for it. I am the mother of two students at Penn Foster who just graduated. They are 15 and 17 years of age. They were placed in Penn Foster due to being bullied by teachers at their local school. My oldest enrolled with 0 credits in Oct of 2019 and my youngest enrolled with 7 credits in June of 2020. My oldest graduated Dec 07, 2020 and my youngest graduated Dec 23. 2020. They loved that they could go as slow or as fast as the wanted. They loved not having a schedule or having to have any interactions with teachers. Their overall experience was great. I have one more student, my 16 year old step-daughter working on it now. She's 41% done. We also have a 14 year old who will be enrolling once done with 8th grade. When my insurance would not cover the cost of an MRI without waiting 6 weeks i asked how much it would cost me out of pocket it was $1,900. So i started calling around and found that most imaging places would not give me a cash price. I found this website and gave it a shot. It found dozens of cheaper options for the same imaging and i picked a place just 10min from my house for $750 though a place 2 hours from me was $550 i figured it was worth the $200 not to drive all that way. i did call the near by place and found it would cost me $800 to book the same appointment directly. But why bother when this service makes it easier to find, navigate the paperwork, and resolve billing. Plus, its significantly better than having it done at the medical practice charging $1,900. I paid the $750 and got the MRI without any complications. The facility they found was fantastic as well. All around a good experience and without doubt the most economical option. I needed a diagnostic test done, with my insurance it was going to be around 300$; knowing that flat rate can be cheaper because the offices do not have to call the insurance to verify I did a google search and found this company. On their site they give you the cost of the procedure at different locations near you (which in my case was less than half price at 136$). The only down side is that they require you to pay within 24-48 hours of them booking the appointment even if the appointment is a week or so away. It was easy to change my appointment, because the earliest ones did not fit my schedule. No phone calls necessary, e-mail communication was very quick and efficient. They did a great job helping me get an MRI on my wrist at an affordable price. My insurance will not pay for an MRI until I meet my deductible, which is over $1000. Using Radiology Assist I was able to pay $188 in cash and not use my insurance. I did have to drive 93 miles, but it was still a substantial savings-even with gas over $4! I went into the salon to have my sister in law Molly do a treatment and cut on my hair. I was very impressed by everything there. In 2009, I entered the OCC Southfield campus with some transfer credits from Baker College Ultra Sound Program. I was guided to a counselor by the name of Mr. Sloan. I asked him if there was a wait for the surgical technician program. He stated there was no wait you just have to take nine more classes. I took the nine classes and finished them by December of 2010 which would of put me in the September 2011 internship. In the spring of 2011, I was waiting for the letter in the mail. I did all the necessary steps I needed to take for the program. When I didn't receive the letter, I went to find out why. Sloan comes out of his office with some papers and takes me to the cafeteria in the lower level. He forced me to sign them and told me I wasn't in the program for the 2011 year. I was irate because I had given up my prior career as an award winning hairstylist because of lack of medical insurance as single woman.In 2013, two years later they sent me the letter after I had been hit three times from behind in my car. I read the letter knowing I would no longer be able to do this with my back injuries. I threw it in the garbage in disbelief of what had gone wrong. He was black and violated my civil rights. That deserves immediate termination of his position. He is lucky I didn't smash the papers in his nose. He would of have deserved every bit of it. Since 2011, I have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and have not worked.Carol A Bourgeau

If you ever have Jeffery Eichold as a biology professor please beware. He is very racist and bias towards anyone who is not white even admitted to lying about graduating college to get the job. I was walking from the student parking lot across the street and I stopped to wait for him because I thought he was going to drive past me and he made a turn into the employee parking lot without using blinkers. This is the type of treatment you get at this campus. Other than that this is a horrible place to get an education or anything else. My purse was stolen from this campus and do you think they really tried to help me get my belongings back? Not at all.N A

The lady I went to see for a transcript request was extremely rude and rolled her eyes the moment I walked up. When I asked her what was the process for the form as it was my first time doing one she looked at me like I was stupid and said just read it. Oakland Community College (OCC) is an excellent option to obtain a fairly affordable education compared to its university counterparts. It offers an exceptional “community oriented” learning environment, an abundance of scholarship opportunities, and quite frankly, a mishmash of subjectively good and bad professors. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, I only attended their Highland Lakes campus and when cases eventually arrived in Michigan, all my classes got moved to the remote format. I continued throughout the remote format and in August of 2021, I received my associates degree. Now, in terms of this particular Auburn Hills campus, I can confidently point out two negatives compared to the Highland Lakes campus. 1. Finding particular building(s) at first can be a confusing process (for instance, finding “F” building). Even with the utilization of Google Maps and OCC’s online maps, I still struggled finding my particular building(s). 2. Despite the college’s COVID policies, most students and faculty either refuse to wear a mask entirely, or wear a mask incorrectly.joek2k

Financial Aid Office is ineffective. They do not communicate in an acceptable and timely manner – it takes them two weeks to reply to an email and their reply was grossly incomplete. They will not afford you any critical information that could save headaches in the future. They have poor patience over the phone and they pass blame unto others. Oakland CC administration took weeks to post my grade that was requested of my Economics professor three times and myself once which was a time sensitive issue to have complete transcripts sent to another college. It was stressful and infuriating. Even the professor said these individuals in charge were incompetent. Wow! Oakland CC certainly does not appear to be devoted to one’s education or success. Student mill? I’d say so. Advice: Find another school…maybe at the top of the trash can because Oakland CC fancies the bottom.Ray De Loof

Website lists the dates of refunds and loan disbursements but they can't be bothered to actually follow them or stick to them. WE ARE DEPENDING ON THAT MONEY TO STAY AFLOAT WHILE IN SCHOOL. The callous way that you miss deadlines is ridiculous, especially for an institution where if *I* miss a deadline, I get a failing grade. Well here's yours. Screwing us in the middle of summer when many of have made promises to landlords, creditors, or simply need food and gas and expecting it to show up like we were told on Friday, July 8th and then using the excuse "we were on vacation" is pathetic. You should feel bad. Don't tell us we can count on money on a certain date if you can't be bothered to disburse it on the date you list on your website and tell us over the phone.Jj “Neko” Fatts

The gentleman working in security was very helpful (unlike security at the Osceola Campus)..went there (Lake Nona) with my daughter to get her Valencia ID..mission accomplished thanks to a helpful individual..when we spoke to security at Osceola..the gentleman there was full of bs..about him not having access to blah blah blah..do your f…ing job dude..it doesn't matter if the student is taking only online classes..if you're a student..you get a f…ing ID card..that's it jackass..Safdar Alli

Very kind staff members with an answer to all your questions and an attention to detail that's hard to come by in any form of retail. I hope their efforts are valued to the fullest by Valencia. Students are great, office staff are typically well, the main problem is the teachers. Most of my classes I walk away with nothing and class time is usually filled with the teachers ramblings. Most of the learning is done from the book and could probably just be taught online. Having huge problems with this school and money, they charged me 3 times for the same books, had I not seen it I could have lost over a $1000. I will probably not be coming back next semester due to the low opportunities, if you're looking for anything related to technology or physics, or really anything that falls into STEM, this school is not for you. Will not be coming here next semester.First Last

Faculty and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Small campus and smaller classes means much more attentive professors when it comes to students needs. My only complaint is the lack of diversity, but that kind of comes with the area. Outside of this complaint though all around fabulous school with plenty of educational opportunities that will feet anyone's needs or desires. I started at this college looking for better job opportunities by obtaining college credits, and ended up falling into my passion and I'm working on gaining enough credits for transfer.Breanne Rogge

This institute of education is a great choice for anyone who wants another chance for their education, or to get something started for when they need to prepare for transfer to University courses. Let this letter to Trio school you to avoid this place like the plague for GI Bill or Vocational Rehab: Please pray for my school experience, copy of what I sent Trio on Campus: Ms Ridley; Voc rehab does  NOT cover food or lodgjng you have been ill informed. Also since when does staff meetings take the place of your first customer the student. You informed me last minute via your surrogate which only makes me further doubt Trio's eternal and everlasting priorities and the humiliation and degradation I have suffered as a protected Veteran and Minister of the Gospel is nothing short of reprehensible  and divine childhood neglect. I will seek to take  my ministry to another learned and worthy institution next Semester or sooner. Fantastic music and theatre program that I aid with. It's also a pretty campus. Every time I go to the Take 5 Lounge, there's always a group or two of people who are making a ruckus. I know it's a difficult slope to tackle, I don't think it's appropriate hearing the n-word in normal dialogue while I'm trying to eat, and I say that as a black man. It's not just those groups though. Groups singing some musical or someone talking loudly on their phone is annoying to hear.Ramone W

I feel that I received an excellent education. The tuition is high, it's more than UofM Ann Arbor. However, you are getting excellent Professor's in smaller classrooms, which I really thought was beneficial for me. I like knowing nearly everyone in my cohort. Professor's in my program were phenomenal. I am agnostic and I do not feel at all that religion was pushed onto me.Heather Issers

The school is a good choice but Make sure you are your own advocate. Counselor had me taking classes we found out I never needed, waisted a semester of time and money taking prerequisites I already qualified for. Also make sure CLCs or any Collage major is truly applicable in the real world the professors were great but unfortunately CRJ has zero use even in law enforcement. If you plan on going into the corporate world doing anything, just get a business degree. If not learn a hands on skill.David Castro

Reviewing the campus as a visitor. The campus is accessible from multiple main roads , and there are signs to get to the campus on all entrances. But the signs within the campus to different wings and entrances are not large enough and poorly lit. Even the entrance markings are not legible from the parking lot or roads making navigation of campus very stressful. The campus is organized well and interiors is beautiful and well maintained. Got my highlights and a cut at the technical campus cosmetology department. An amazing job and an amazing price. Students do a wonderful job and are completely supervised. I have been doing my hair here for years and never had a bad experience. Also great professional products are used as well. I highly recommend!Jennifer Perez
