Graduated here in 2018. Yes the school is not perfect. but it is affordable and offers all sorts of academic programs for students & for those who are interested in learning a new skill. A few issues with the homeless people who easily make their way in the school's restroom and leave all their mess inside. A bit more security is also needed because of the area surrounding the school, but overall it's a good community college. Looking back now, I miss every moment I got to spend here. Beauty and peace would describe this campus. A very serene environment on the hill overlooking a big part of Los Angeles. Large acres of grass with everything looking like in order and clealiness. Towards sunset you get some incredible pictures of the beachfront. People also seeme very calm and helpful. Starbucks and other food and drink places all around the campus. The two year program I attended ended abruptly when I proposed a change to my second year project. The project is necessary for graduation, regardless of prior academic achievement. My GPA was near a 4.0 over the two years I attended. I was informed late in the second year, just months before graduation, that because of my proposed change, my entire project had been re-reviewed and deemed unworthy. This meant I could not graduate and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. I was given no counseling about this and only after I pleased for a conference with the headmasters did I finally get an hearing, which led nowhere. The vibe of the hearing was awful and nearly brought me to tears, I have never felt so rejected in my life. Up until I was given this news there was no communication regarding my second year project being unsatisfactory. As per school policy I met with my counselor on a periodic basis to make sure my project was going smoothly and to prevent this very disastrous outcome from happening. I did learn a lot at the school, headmasters at the time Mary and Ron were great, but in my opinion whoever they hired to organize and run the organization portion of the school were unfit for their positions and I, and possibly many others suffered needlessly for it. I have to give The University of Santa Monica (USM) a 2 star rating because I do not believe they have the competence to call themselves a University, which is probably why, at least when I attended, they were not accredited. This all happened around 2004. Then in 2009 I received a phone call from a USM employee stating that because I dropped out during the 2nd year early because there was no possible way I could earn my diploma, the classes I did not attend were by law to be reimbursed back to the loaning instituation (TERI). They called me because they found my money in their coffers years later after going having gone through a financial audit. It took nearly 9 months from the initial phone call for the money to finally be repaid to my loan organization, the USM financial representative was extremely terse and rude making the entire process non-transparent and providing a horrible experience If you are looking for spiritual growth, this may be the place for you, but I would not recommend this as an actual "University". In my eyes they simply do not have the structure or competence to call this organization a University.Madison Maze

The most evil people in my life thrive at USM. I was physiologically scammed by a former USM executive, multiple current USM employees / former students. They loudly ring a cow bell in the office when they dupe someone one into join and their cult-like recruitment tactics are deceptive at best. I went to their annual workshop and witnessed the use of planted shills in the audience who failed to disclose their close relationship with USM, so shady!! As a "student", I witnessed USM using many cult tactics each month for recruitment, to minimize anyone questioning USM teachings and keeping people paying to be part of their community. Real schools do not charge money when your homework is late and also encourage contrary views and critical thinking, yet USM students are thought not to question the USM teachings and their leaders/mgmt. Some of the biggest psychological scam artists I have ever known still thrive in the USM community. USM teaches there is no right and wrong, a true paradise for any sociopath a joke to real physiologists. USM is a front company for MSIA, which is legally incorporated as a church according to the MSIA website. Also, do a Google search for their founder and "Chancellor" Roger Delano Hinkins (AKA: John Roger) and browse the alleged scandals suggesting financial improprieties as well as disturbing sexual misconduct before you spend almost $800 per month on this psychological and emotional con job.Chris Leach

I've obtained my master's and in the final stages of completing my doctorate at Saybrook in the Mind Body Medicine program (now called Integrative health science, I believe). Attending this school has been a game changer for me personally and professionally. The caliber of people who attend the school are incredible and it opens ones professional networks and capacities for creative work. The school is well organized. The hybrid model of education, which entails residential academic retreats and online working and collaboration is in sync with the changing world of education. Edit: Over $100k for their Psychology PhD program… and not even APA accredited. I know APA is not required in some states but I I know of other non APA PhD programs that are literally half the cost of Saybrook’s. I like that they’re non profit, regionally accredited & offer some interesting programs but they are pretty expensive… you can get a Harvard masters degree for less than their masters programs..Josh Esc

My Wife goes here and it is possibly the most frustrating thing for me to watch… This school is honestly a huge scam. I really dont know how else to put it. They will charge you INSANE amounts of money for these classes (well over 200K for the Masters program after interest) and you "professors" are in the PHD program. what is that? I am not saying that they have some legit teachers and a few students teaching, I am saying that nearly ALL of the teachers are students. Let me be very clear about this, the teachers are HORRIBLE. The faculty is HORRIBLE. We just found out today that they didn't report to my Wife's FedLoan for our students loans that she was still enrolled and taking classes. What this means is, now FedLoans thinks that we are no longer in school, and that our loan is no longer differed. When she emailed the school faculty, they said this was HER responsibility…. are you kidding me? so we pay 60K per year before taxes for you to have students teach classes for $10 an hour… NOT submit proper paperwork to FedLoans and have absolutely zero leadership at the helm… When my Wife attended a "town hall" meeting with the Dean of the CA campuses, she asked when all of the grandiose things that were promised in admissions would be taking place… such as observation rooms on campus, real life experiences etc etc, and what did the Dean tell her? he said "if you would like to see these things happen, than you should initiate them yourself and start them up yourself"…. really? THAT is your answer to the student that is paying TOP dollar to go to this school? oh, and we just found out today thru some super vague email, that the Dean stepped down…. Please, trust this frustrated husband, DO NOT go to this school… I am a smart person… seriously TRUST ME…Adam

(UPDATED after completing doctoral coursework) My experience has been outstanding. This is a five-star institution, through and through. After completing my PhD coursework here, I can say this school really did deliver on promises and I feel lucky to have been part of this program. Our classes have top notch professionals from Southern California and various major US cities who fly in for the executive format, on-ground business psychology doctoral program. Faculty have been top caliber for the area, coming from academia and professional practice. I leave classes inspired and energized. I entered with my MBA and 10 years in my field. This is a program for people with work experience. It is not for folks who want school directly from undergrad with an internship, although they accommodate that with various master's programs. This program has been one of the strongest positive forces for me life. I matured so much, professionally and psychologically. If I could go back in time to choose where to do my doctoral coursework, or whether to pursue doctoral studies at all, I would stay at Chicago School in LA to do it all the same way. The big question for me was whether to focus on research or practice, since I already had work experience and could decide how big of a pivot the doctorate would be. Students from this program go into academia and industry. This school is really big on diversity, service, community, and academics. I went to a big school for undergraduate work. Terrible experience with this money hungry school. Financial aid claimed I owed more money for my undergraduate classes – come to find out the financial aid department had me down as a student in their graduate program. I caught this mistake. NOT financial aid. I went through at least 4 different financial aid "advisors" and none of them could figure out why I owed money as an undergraduate student. The Vice President of the school called to try to make the situation right, but mostly tried to convince me to come back to the school. My therapist does not speak italian as reported in the website but she can only undesrtand basic italian. UPDATE: Dr. Pham and her office did not charge the cancellation after realizing the situation! Very grateful for their understanding. Had a family emergency the day of my appointment and was charged an $125 late fee. I’m a college student and am only able to go to counseling through insurance; I can’t afford to pay that much out of pocket. Have never canceled an appt before. The office was not understanding at all, even when I offered to pay the much less expensive cost of the actual appointment. Don’t even have Dr. Pham’s email or phone number to contact her about this. I applied to the adult studies program to finish up my bachelors degree in late 2010. This means I actually attended classes at a satellite campus, not the main campus in Azusa. The satellite facilities are excellent and your graduation ceremony is held at the same time as the convention students. This was a very touch, in that it facilitated family coming to see your college graduation. Although I only visited the main a few times, somehow they make you feel connected to the entire university. I was extremely pleased with the caliber of instruction that each instructor provided. Every aspect of this school is well managed and professional. I completed a bachelors degree Human Development and successfully transitioned into a teaching credentialing program at a state school. I read some reviews below giving the school one star…. the reasons should not be a surprise…. "they don't approve of same gender relationships", "they have strict rules"…. Well, yes, it is a Christian college and they CLEARLY point out what they believe and what they reinforce when going through the admissions process. In the end, this school is a great choice, if you are looking for a college that has very low teacher to student ratios, this is it. If you are looking for a school that is safe for you or child, this is it. I honestly don't know what Azusa Pacific University staff members do all day. I wonder if APU staff work hard enough to earn their salaries. I am a current Azusa Pacific University student who was accepted for admission in the middle of June. I requested a transfer credit evaluation more than one month ago, but it took MORE THAN A MONTH for APU staff to begin my transfer credit evaluation. Their lame excuse is that they have not received a required form that must be submitted. APU staff did NOT inform me that my transfer credit evaluation was taking a long time because of a change in administration (a new dean). I am STRONGLY considering transferring to a different school, one in which I can receive PERSONALIZED ATTENTION. Zero stars for Azusa Pacific University staff!!!! I would have given this school a better review however the way they have handled covid has made me lose so much respect for this school. They have made the students lives a living hell, class is not only mandatory but your camera has to be on and if it’s not we don’t receive credit for class. If we have more than a certain amount of absences they take up to 3% off of our grade for every additional absence… ridiculous. Not to mention they raised tuition for students instead of giving us some of our money back because of the certain circumstances. They will find any way possible to charge you money. Very health conscious, clean, and gorgeous campus. The school shop has SO MANY Bruins clothing options and styles, it's hard to choose! The staff is lovely and helpful, from the library to the stores. There are free covid tests on campus for students, too. Looking forward to a great time here! However, there are not as many classes available, had to take Saturday classes because there were no online options or options during the week for those that work, the people at the cashiers office are highly disrespectful, housing does not assist when needed, and the campus itself is located in a bad neighborhood. There have been multiple shootings while I have attended/lived here. If you are considering other cal states choose those before Cal State LA….There is no social life at this school. The food courts close at 4-5pm and several cars have been broken into. By far my worst choice I could have made was to attend this school. I feel like they do not care about their students. I transferred from LACC to this University to pursue my BS in Mechanical Engineering and It has been a great experience so far. Most of professor are caring and really good at the subject they teach. In addition, most of professors do not force you to buy the books listed for the class, instead they give you options to access the material. They have many resources to help students succeed. For instance, they are letting students borrow Ipads for the length of their carreers. They also let us borrow laptops and even hot spots. After transferring from ELAC I did almost 3 years at CSULA and I got my Bachelor of Science. I got help whenever I needed from faculty, financial aid and other resources inside the campus. I was able to met great friends and professors too. There is always activities to do inside the campus, every semester they do orientations for new students, often you get emails regarding anything related to our education and campus. I highly encourage you not to attend this college! I can't even begin to count the amount of issues I've had to endure and my experience has been more frustrating and unenjoyable then it has been good! To highlight the most recent issue I had…. I received an email last Friday evening, April 1, 2016 stating that I have been PULLED FROM GRADUATION and my tickets are being withheld. To ad to that, the email was sent on a Friday evening at 4pm after the office was already closed so I was unable to speak with anyone. I didn't freak out too much because I knew that I was on track and it was a mistake on their part, but given that it is completely unacceptable for a University to send an email of such magnitude on a Friday evening saying I've been pulled from graduation and I am unable to speak to someone. That is just downright completely stupid and contained a lack of intelligence among the office. Furthermore I went into the registrars office Monday morning and informed them of the issue. To no surprise they indicated it was an error on their part and I should be cleared fro graduation. 2 girls proceeded to fiddle around, laugh and even sure while trying to enter the correct information to clear me in their system. After about 5 minutes they said I was good to go. The next day I went online to proceed with the graduation steps. I found that I was still NOT on the graduation list and I was unable to reserve my tickets. I went back to the office and told them of the issue and they proceed to say they cleared me but can't fix the issue so I would have to contact someone else. So not only did THEY WRONGLY remove be from graduation they have now made it difficult for me to clear up THEIR MISTAKE. Additionally, if the school is not already pretty expensive, tuition has increased every single year. Parking is also terrible, and though we had $400 for a parking permit, we are not guaranteed a parking spot and security is constantly driving around looking to give tickets. I was an online student. My first few classes were fine, no issues, great instructors, interesting material. But then came my second term and I signed up for a class taught by Dr. Ana Thorne. She is quite overbearing and condescending. I'm a pretty tough guy, but I seriously felt like I was reliving my second grade being bullied years. That's just not how a teacher/student relationship should feel. What's worse is that no one from the university was there to facilitate for me, so I dropped all of my classes and transferred elsewhere. My daughter got admission in this university for her masters. She chose this university amongst many invites she got from east and west coast….owing to it's high reputation. We went with her for her orientation. We were impressed by the massive campus spread in Acres. Beautiful imperial style old architecture. Beautiful paved roads inside everywhere. Beautiful landscaping. There are many shops we were told in just adjacent USC village. Coffee shops inside. A book store with necessities for sale for students. Baseball ⚾️ and other grounds. Security guards on every entrance. Students' insurance done by university. They say the faculty is also good. University housing is available but there are lots of student housing around. Very nice campus. However, the building style are pretty much same styles within the campus. This place is so well maintained it is so clean. I saw at least 10 security guards within my one hour visit. And the whole campus is well confined within its own boundaries. I believe it must be very safe within the campus. I came to this school after private university rip off my $6000 for nothing. Pierce have so many stuff free. I graduate 2018. Pierce College offers courses on more than 100 subjects in 92 academic disciplines, and has transfer alliances with most of the universities in the state. Students at the school successfully transfer to UC and CSU schools. Students can pursue any of the 44 associate's degrees or 78 Certificates of Achievement the school offers directly. Pierce College comprises 426 acres (172 ha) amidst a dense metropolis, an area larger than many university campuses, including that of UCLA. The grounds are landscaped with more than 2,200 trees, thousands of roses and a 1.9-acre (0.77 ha) botanical garden. The Pierce College farm houses small herds of cattle, sheep, goats, and a small poultry flock for its students to learn from. Great community college. You might see negative posts, yet keep in mind it's a community college first, above all. In time it's become more, and I hope that one day I can say it's a community center, museum, …well, a community commons/hub, where everyone in the Valley can feel comfortable interacting with. I'm in complete shock where I ended up. I signed up for the courses and expected to study on campus or at least online with live classes. It's just terrible teaching. Firstly, it's online, secondly, each item costs $1,500, and thirdly, the worst thing is self-study, that is, no one will teach you. Today was the annual Sickle Cell Festival at Charles Drew University (CDU). Drew is a HBCU (Historically Black University) located in Los Angeles. Charles Drew, MD was a physician-surgeon and the father of American blood banking. He created a blood banking system to aid military healthcare professionals with the medical treatment of American soldiers during WWII. He also was the first to separate plasma from blood and show that it alone can be just as effective as whole blood. CDU os a medical school and public health institution. The school is also associated with the MLK Jr. Community Hospital. MLK Jr. Hospital is a free LA county hospital that provides medical services to everyone. It is also a very special hospital because it's the only one of its kind to offer medical treatment to adult sickle cell disease (SCD) patients. This is very important because once SCD patients age out of pediatric care, having their crises managed at regular hospitals can be very challenging. Most SCD patients go to the Emergency Room when they're in pain. Unfortunately, most ER personnel know nothing about SCD. And when these patients show up, they're complaining about extreme pain that has no traditionally familiar ailment to account for it. Additionally, what makes them suspucious is that they have many track marks on their arms (they receive monthly blood transfusions). They are also often able to tell the doctor exactly what type of pain medication, and/or dosage (which is often very high) they need. As a result, they are almost always automatically labeled as drug addicts looking for a hit. Luckily, SCD experts such as Dr. Elliott Vichinsky of Children's hospital Oakland have created Passports for SCD patients aging out of pediatric care, to take with them to the ER. The Passport describes to the ER personnel what sickle cell is and how it presents during a crisis. This very simple provision has saved many lives. Hopefully, these Passports will be implemented nationwide. Those lucky enough to go directly to MLK Jr do not need a Passport, as the hospital is familiar with the disease and exactly how to manage the crisis. Today wasn't about any of that though. We are here to celebrate brave children and adults with food, popcorn, entertainment, and so much Halloween candy! PSA: If you are in a black\black relationship and are planning on starting a family, PLEASE be responsible and have yourselves tested for the sickle cell mutation. Had an appointment for COVID testing and was directed to this snake of a line (supposedly for appointments) only to spend upwards of 2+ hours going around the block back towards where I originally started. A security officer passing asked if I had an appointment, and after I told him "yes" he instructs me to just park and walk up and show my appointment confirmation. Whoever that officer was, THANK YOU….after parking I spent approximately 20 minutes total including: getting checked in, getting my sample package, doing the actual swab test, and dropping it in the container. Please find a better way to service those with appointments first…cause that wait is atrocious😒 …and thank to those who are and have been on the front lines throughout the pandemic. 🙏🏿✊🏿Bryson Pope

It was a bit surreal .I went to get tested for covid 19. Had to drive thru, stay in the car and follow directions and hurry up and wait . They were very efficient at getting all these hundreds of cars thru. You must make an appointment, but I also saw a line for non appointments .I took some pics for you to check out .Arthur Garza
