As a student of West Valley-Mission College District, I was able to attend this college for one class which was listed on the same transcript at Mission College. It is a nice campus and more of a suburban feel to it. The instructor was nice and helpful. If it was closer to my home, I would have gone to this campus for more classes.Bill Fong

They try to keep you here longer than necessary and do not give you the correct information to transfer. The science teachers are often terrible and actively try to fail students. It has become so bad that students are trying to get them fired. I have yet to meet someone who has met a counselor and not been given misinformation.Thea Queen

Dropped by here in order to go to Panda Express. Don't know why I'm reviewing a college I'm not even part of, and this review is during a pandemic too.. well, it's purely about the aesthetic and convenience of the facilities. De Anza has quite the sizeable college grounds , so sizeable that it feels like an abandoned residential area with how empty practically everything is. It's complete with artistic facilities for music, visual arts, science buildings, sports facilities and the like. While I didn't enter, the library and the nearby park (called the sunken gardens by the college) was quite the beautiful location. The outdoor seating areas where the students would take a break and wait for classes on are widespread, shaded and very calming to be on. Not to mention the very convenient bus routes available . It's no wonder the college ended up being quite popular, it's geographically excellent and quite picturesque.Ace Hughj

De Anza College is great but not the book store. Beware of book store return policy. Make sure the books or items is in original condition or their will not refund. No sympathy at all. I bought online access book a week before class starts. My math intructor switch book. And to make matter worse I accidentally bent the access book card because it was in my backpack with one line crease and they denied the return after i picked it up on 1st day of class. Cost me $120 for a simple honest mistake. Ask for store credit or even exchange for the current hard copy of the free math book and they not willing to do anything. I'll go buy from amazon or used book somewhere else. Never again support this book store.Dru Down

Community colleges are a treasure trove of gems among them is access to the on-campus gym. De Anza College’s on-campus gym provides patrons with a quiet and well rounded experience for an affordable price. From experience, these types of gyms allow me to get my workout done in a welcoming environment, which I feel can’t be said of many gyms. Most professors are very kind. The school as reopened for in-person learning. The food and library are open. Staff, students, and visitors will need to fill out a health screen to be on campus. (I'd say take a screenshot to easily show the green check) The construction in the middle of campus is done and the beautiful campus is opened up. I like the school, and the professors are great. All of the professors I have taken have been kind. However, the staff- Araceli the manager from the mission college bookstore is extremely rude. She lacks customer service skills. She will yell at you in front of the entire store to the point where everyone is staring. Mission College has one of the most supportive and enthusiastic professors. I enjoy coming in to all of my classes because they engage me into their lesson plans. Not only that but they make sure that all of their students are understanding the assignments and offer alternative support systems for them to succeed in the classroom. I started the program with Ms Perez as my lab instructor and ended with Ms Patrice. I'm older, laid off from a 25yr career and didn't know what to do with my life let alone where to start. Ms Perez and Ms Patrice made learning so easy, fun and amongst all, they made it interesting and made me feel excited to keep attending. The process at Unitek is easy to complete due to the communication level the staff has with their students. My career advisor, Ms Lisa is great! Ms Lisa Literally held my hand through the exiting process, kept in touch throughout my externship, made sure I was staying sane throughout the process of going to extern, working nights and taking care of my family. Walked me through my application process for a job, held my hand through the interview process, kept in touch throughout the whole process until I got an offer letter!!!! I had a wonderful experience with Ms. Patrice my laboratory instructor and Ms. Perez. Both have mentored me & helped me become the MA I am today. Ms. Lisa Haynes in Career Services is a hard worker & goes to bat for her students. I received a job offer during my externship, that was too good to pass up as a new grad, thanks to her guidance. I recommend taking your MA in the day class as the PM class lacks structure & professionalism with one particular teacher…that is the only reason I left off a star. I am a working registered dental hygienist who graduated from Carrington College back when they were at their previous location relatively close by on San Ignacio. I can't speak for the program now since alot has probably changed in terms of administration, but our program director Sherry Heaney, department of hygiene staff, and supervising doctors were all great and provided us with excellent, rigorous education. We had a very thorough clinical and classroom education there at Carrington which allowed my graduating class to pretty much all go through the program and pass our National and regional boards for hygiene. The cost for the programs I will admit is a bit pricey as it is a private tech school, but they do have loan options. I just recently paid off my student loans after working part time for 3-4 years as a dental hygienist. Also keep in mind that the program was only about 1.5 years full-time vs the 2 years you would expect to go through from one of the renown lottery local community college programs at foothill, Diablo, etc. By all means if you are lucky enough to get into those programs go there as you will save a ton of money, but education-wise my education was on par with those schools. After we graduated I received many phone calls checking up on me to ask if I had been employed yet, so they do seem to check up on how we were doing after going through the program. If you are coming into this clinic as a patient, understand that this isn't a dental practice. Carrington makes nothing from having you come in for their essentially free treatment. They don't "prey" on people without dental insurance because Carrington receives no benefit from you coming into the department for treatment, and rather it is more of a service to you and the local community. That being said, you will be treated by STUDENTS and their only gain from you will be clinical experience. Treatment planning and the amount of time you spend in the clinic will also be ALOT longer than it would be if you were to go to a dental office. I'm talking about a few days of you coming in for appointments vs an hour at a dental office. To Nichole's review, since I can't directly respond to your review: I am unaware of how your periodontal health was before treatment but most likely you had gum disease. If you are having gum recession after treatment that you didn't expect, then I am afraid maybe you didn't have enough patient education. That is something that just happens if you have gum disease and receive treatment for it. Your gums recede because they are swollen initially and you already have bone loss around your teeth. Once they firm up they will naturally recede to match your bone levels. As a practitioner it triggers me when the patient blames the doctor or staff for the patient's own negligence even though as practitioners we have the heart to basically do charity work for them. It is sad that you feel entitled to free treatment and then blame your healthcare provider. Just my two cents here.Unsullied Roarrior

Thanks to her because she encourage me to go to go back to school and try to inquire. The staffs in Carrington College are friendly even the janitor and security guard and front desk. I remember the first day doing my inquiring in this school, I met Troy he was my enrollment advisor! He’s so nice, funny and cool! I like him! I like how he help me and my friend to get this in the program. He extends his arm to help you for what you need to get in the program and take note I don’t have money, nor credit score or anything financial. It’s true that the private school is so PRICEY! I can’t blame or complain about it because it’s private school and you’ll graduate in 1.5 years not including pre req. Troy explained everything about it, how you’ll pay and how much you’ll pay. Honestly, I didn’t know what I’m doing but with the help of Carrington College staff I would say I owe them from what I became now because they helping me to make my dream come true even you don’t have money for now, it’s like get your degree and pay later! I am now in Term 2 in Dental Hygienist Program! Carrington College of Dental Hygiene Program Department’s environment is peaceful. The faculty are very friendly. This the place where you can learn many things. I honestly can say, their way of teaching is not intimidating, they work harder just to make sure their student doing a good job especially in the clinic, your practice skills (oh, a lot of COMPETENCY, which is to test your skills, if you failed then they’ll teach you until you get it) and lecture. I love how they focus on your hand skills, your ergonomic (protecting your back, I don’t even know that!) BASIC is life! They teach you not only to learn how to treat patient but they care also for you to love the job so you’ll not injure your overall health! Mrs. Clark is the one who welcomed us in this Program, she’s so gentle when she talk and I love her teaching in Radiology subject and not only her you’ll love. All the DH department staff are friendly and funny that what’s make me go to school everyday and excited to LEARN. They’re all knowledgeable, professional, and they will not stop failing you until you get the PERFECT skills, they’re not judgmental they’re always asking “DO YOU HAVE QUESTION?”. One of our Instructor said “MISTAKE IS A OPPORTUNITY”. I realized being perfection is not what make you GREAT! I don’t wanna brag everything but their teaching reached my beyond expectation. This particular location has some very wicked women working in positions they’re obviously not qualified to work in. If you’re a woman of African descent, they work so hard to keep you down and out of the programs, if the salary will start at a healthy rate. Yet they’re pretty rude and condescending to EVERYONE! They try to intimidate the students for having questions. They’re very unsupportive and unprofessional. They will gang up on you, knit pick with you, hold unnecessary bully like meetings with you, etc. these women can’t handle the responsibility that their position Carrie’s . They’re old as Medusa and have the audacity to mock an older student. It’s a shame that after all that women have been through overtime , these women believe that it’s their job to try and hold another woman back. I had a heart issue due to a medication I had taken while I was a student there. I was admitted into the hospital, and still managed to attend my class the following day from my hospital bed. These women verbally attacked me in private the first day I returned to campus. I was still weak from being ill, which caused me not to be able to properly defend myself. Fortunately, I was able to record the second attack—all because I inquired about what the protocols would be in the event that students became ill with covid. They wanted to meet with me again privately, the meeting took approximately 1 hour, yet my question was never answered. Instead they brought up all kinds of other silly things, while gazing at me like I was an experiment. There’s a lot more I have to say about this campus and it’s Surgical Technology Director, Lab instructor, and the Director of Student Services. They behaved like pure monkey’s.Tara Newton-Bailey

NBA School is very lucky because it got truly amazing instructors. I took a phlebotomy class with Mr. Santiago who is a science professor. Bradford College of Nursing is the best school. Edwin, Erica and Mrs Marie are the best. They are very understanding, caring, and helpful. I was more than prepared to take my state exam with ARC all because of Erica and Milva. Bradford has one of the cheapest and shortest CNA program in the 209, which is why I was drawn to the school in the first place. I knew I got my monies worth after completing the program and seeing how much effort the instructors put in to ensuring that their students pass their state exams. Although my group was only able to go to clinicals for one weekend because of the pandemic, we were given more than enough time to practice skills at their Simulation Labs. Their Sim Labs are complete with all the supplies, including beds and mannequins, that are used on the state exam and on actual LTC facilities. I appreciated how flexible they were with payments by offering weekly or biweekly payments, instead of having to pay in full before starting the program like other schools. I was also able to get my CPR certification through the school for an additional $60. Overall, I’m more than pleased with my experience and I now understand why many reviewers raved about the school.Zarah Abenes

I just completed the CNA program the school offers and, I must say it was worth every penny and time. The course was 6 weeks and went by extremely fast. The curriculum is very easy to process. I'm so happy I decided to take the course at the time I did. The instructor Milva is Awesome. She has so much knowledge and you can learn so much from her. This school only cares about the money you pay them. I remember the director contacting me so many times in a week to pay my past due. I was still waiting for my VA benefits to kick in. Then I was told if I don’t pay by this date, I will be removed from the program. So I applied for a loan to pay off my past due. After that I was never harassed again. I expected a lot from this school. From great didactic instructors to clinical instructors. But that did not happened. I only had one good didactic instructor. My clinical instructor was lazy and always complaining. The leadership did not care about you. Just their well being as a school. Your grades don’t matter. Also they did not care if you are a military veteran. There were times that I had to clock in using my phone which is not allowed, but my clinical instructor was always late so I couldn’t clock in using a computer. I was removed from the MRI program because I was DISHONEST. Instead of helping you to improve, they just remove you from the program because they got what they needed from you. MONEY! No kind of remediation whatsoever. Just after your MONEY. You’re better off with Unitek where they care about their students emotionally, spiritually, and personally. I applied to the Gurnick Academy ultrasound technology program ( San Mateo campus ), At first I was getting constant email reminders to complete documents before the deadline date . After I completed everything I had an panel interview set up , the interview went well overall but I was asked a certain question that I didn’t completely understand and when I hesitated ( and felt nervous ) the interviewer rudely responded with frustration at my delayed response . At the end of the interview they informed me that I would receive a response within 3 weeks. Within a few days I received an email demanding that I complete a financial aid form within that day “ just in case” I get into the program even though I hadn’t received an acceptance letter. Well.. 3 weeks passed and I sent a follow up email kindly thanking everyone that attended the interview for there time and consideration . I didn’t get a single reply back from that email , a month after the interview day they emailed me informing that I didn’t get in and should try applying next year . The negative reviews I read after the fact are correct , it seemed like they were only after money .Amani Abdaw

I am writing this review as a new grad from the LVN program at Unitek's Hayward Campus. I chose Unitek as the location to take on my nursing education after attempting to go through the community college route. The CC route can be long and dragged out as many of the science course are impacted. I knew I wanted to be nurse and Unitek was my express ride to that goal. Classes were very informative and every class was directed to nursing concepts and skills. This kept me engaged throughout the whole program because the goal of being a nurse felt more tangible because I could directly see how what I was learning would be applied once I finished. My theory instructor Mr. X was PHENOMENAL. He created an environment that was conducive to the success of his students. His lectures were not only interesting but his passion and knowledge was more than evident. In short, he wanted us to be successful, knowledgable and confident nurses. My skills and clinical instructor Mr. Singh and Ms. Lisa were incredibly smart and resourceful. Mr. Singh taught clinicals as if we were hired nurses and wanted to be sure we understood how to do things as well as WHY which I think was priceless. He also taught us about the real scenarios that could potentially happen in the real world as nurses that you would not necessarily find within a textbook. The LVN program all in all was a rigorous program however the school provides resources to each of us as students that would help us be successful. My recommendation to any prospective student is to build a rapport with the people around you including your classmates (i.e. create study buddies and study groups) to help you and use your resources (ATI and ATI textbooks.) The whole staff, admissions, financial department, and student services(Leslie) was amazing and very helpful in helping me navigate throughout the process of getting into the Unitek Program as well as achieving completion. Yes it get's harder as you go but always listen to the professors who will ensure that you are learning as much of the material that you should be learning to be successful and hopefully pass the NCLEX-PN. I went to Unitek to get my LVN license and finished a little over a year ago. There might be hiccups here and there, but the teachers at Unitek really make it a great program. Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Heidi, Mrs. Woodard and Mrs. Brown are some of the best teachers I’ve ever had. They’re always there to help you with any questions you have and they go the extra mile to ensure you have all the tools you need to succeed. They will sacrifice their personal time after work hours to help their students. I just started my BSN program and I remember so much of what I learned at Unitek because of these teachers. Overall Unitek college was a great experience for me. Both of my teachers were there for me and answered emails in a timely manner. I don’t think I would’ve gone to the school because I do live about two hours away but Futuro health paid for it that’s why I went here. I believe everything went smoothly just until the end with my externship I had a place in mind and my coordinator basically just told me to take the first externship she chose me. It took us a while because she is not from the state and everything that she was looking was about three hours away from where I currently live. If there is one thing I could probably change from this place it would be to make it more of a in person learning because everything was pretty much on the computer except for labs one day every two weeks I did feel like I learned but I feel like I would’ve learned more if there was more in person learning then over the computer. I do feel like some teachers don’t really pay attention to the stuff because there were some places that I would leave blank and I would still get 100% on them. When they say for profit they are not kidding around! The teachers have their favorites. Miss Chua has a thick accent makes learning difficult on top of her accent she sometimes gets really worked up in her lectures and begins to kind of shout and speak faster than i can follow. They lack the skill of communication. I think the only staff that knows how to properly communicatw is Sera but she is in admissions i believe. Miss Chua has made me feel like I am not a valued student and does not try her best to accomodate students. For example if you are late for an ati test she will pick a time and it doesnt matter if it fits with your work schedule outside of school. Emails, and calls do not seem to work with this set of instructors especially her. I wish Unitek would change some of their policies regarding communication between student and staff. I also wish there was more diversity on campus, SSF location lacks diversity and frankly i do not think they even celebrate other races…Hailly Green

I reached out to know more and actually start and get an education , i started talking to an admission representative named Ariel Edwards and set up appointment i unfortunately wasn't able to make it due to getting sick & taking care of my youngest sister and i had , i let her know ahead of time about my situations as well but when it came to rescheduling asking for a later time she completely ignored me & stopped talking to me , the least she could have done was straight up say she didn't want to help me anymore really unprofessional . She never reached out to me and all I was told is that my money was not going to be refunded because I decided to not continue with the program. You must know that $1500 is a lot for anyone in my situation that's why I begged to get it back since I borrowed it now I have to pay it back and on top of that my mother is very sick. Not that you care because is not your mother but there is things I could use this money for and I am just so desperate because I can't borrow more money since I can't pay this $1500 back. I personally had a good experience at Unitek, the instructors Ms. Sarah, Ms. Suttle and Mr. John always had good feedback and I felt that they cared about us getting the subject/task we had to learn. I was pleased with the practice I got to do, though we could have done more practice of urinalysis, snellen chart, hearing tests and others I can not quite remember at this moment. Amanda Garff with career services was awesome! She was always there when I needed any help with a question or with my resume. She goes above and beyond for students. One thing I did not like, was the fact that before we went onto externship, there was not much communication from the extern coordinators to students going out, we did not know our assigned site, or our schedules or the person whom we had to report to until 2 days before our start date! I know myself and other students were kind of upset that we really did not know our schedules so that we could coordinate child care for the ones who have children.I S T

I had an amazing experience at Unitek. Very helpful teachers and all staff members. Each and every one are dedicated to make sure you are prepared for anything needed for school and your career they are helping you build. Debbie Cacy helped me put together a stellar resume, helped me find, prepare and get an interview for my externship site. They also helped me stay on top of everything even when life was a little bit crazy, they reminded me what documents I needed to turn in and when. The communication is amazing. I have never experienced so many people in my corner helping me succeed in every way they possibly can. I would recommend Unitek to any one interested in a career in the medical field. I started the CNA training here and after few weeks due to the schedule of the nurse that does the training, the class schedule was changed. I couldn't not continue and me and few others wanted a refund. Edward agreed to give us refunds but told us to wait because he didn't have the fund at the moment since it is not our fault. I gave him time and I followed up few times going to his office as well as calling him but I never received my refund. Not only did this experience wasted my time but I lost a lot of money and could not do another program that lined up with my schedule.Tigist Teklé

Honest review about this place? It's amazing. This community College is wonderful. My fat a$$ lost 60 lbs going here while also running Montgomery Hill and eating well of course. This school has some of the best teachers I have ever met and with their inspirational classes onto the next one!!!! Come here, you won't regret it. They have amazing programs, help with mental health and over all health. People happy and willing to help you with financial aid without belittling you and I met some of the best people here. I miss it! Oh and and just remodeled, renovated and build some buildings and it looks beautiful af! Oh wait… also the water fountain is beautiful with gorgeous views all over.B Love

It is a regional community college serving East-Side San Jose. It was built in the 1970's. Originally with two buildings functioning as classrooms and labs plus separate admin building, library. In the 2000's the college has been expanding with additional classroom / lab buildings, a new gym. Its sister campus is San Jose City College in the central area of San Jose near Bascom and 280. Beautiful school. Parking is good when your lucky and early. Classes are great. Landscape is beautiful. Buses run there. Clean beautiful campus. Food is good there. Cooks are nice. Good food options from pho, spring rolls, sandwiches, burgers, soups, pizza, bread, fresh salad bar, coffees, Vietnamese coffee, sweets, and several drinks. There are some amazing high tech headquarters in Silicon Valley but most are off limits to the public. Apple in Cupertino. Google in Mountain View. Facebook in East Palo Alto. Amazon basically everywhere. But the cool thing about the College of San Mateo is that it is public land funded by local tax revenues that ordinary people can visit. No need to be Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos or some other billionaire like the Google founders. It’s prime real estate for sure. The best land for miles around. This school truly changed the course of my life. They execute their vision of student equity with tangible action, not empty promises. Promise program is a god-send. The music program is fantastic and well-funded. Campus is gorgeously built and meticulously laid out. I graduated from San Jose State University in 2012 with a Degree in Art History and Visual Culture. Here is my overall take away from my time spent there. The Good: If you live in the area already, SJSU is pretty convenient. I was lucky enough to live near light trail so the included transit pass was great. Tuition at any university these days is going to be eye watering at best, but taking that into consideration the cost is not as bad as some other CSUs. Education is largely what you make of it, but for the most part the quality of the curriculum and the professors who work at SJSU are pretty high. I can think of only a few classes that were really not up to par out of everything I took there. Facilities in general are pretty decent. Its a crowded school without question but I never felt overwhelmed by it. Now the bad: The administration is painful at times. This become apparent on day 1 when I was placed in the wrong orientation group and forced to sit through seminars on classes I would never take. It continued all the way through the last day when the administration somehow lost track of a PE class I took and tried to tell me I couldn't graduate despite the fact that it was on their own transcript. Overall take away its a decent education if you put the effort in.Jeff Streit

Really great school, but it is mostly what you make of it. As a transfer student, I find that the school is interested in helping you succeed and offers a lot of opportunities for you to get involved, get help, and get through. Once you are in your program (can only vouch for Teachers Prep), the teachers are so good and dedicated to helping you move through the class and are pretty centered around helping you learn what you need to for your career. Only trouble I have had with the school was hang-ups at admissions, but after talking to so many different administrative branches and programs at this point (transfer admissions/financial aid/different departments regarding courses and waivers/counseling dept) I really appreciate how easy they are to get ahold of and how willing and effective they are to help you through your issue. Honestly, commuting sucks, but it is really worth it for the quality of education SJSU offers. Plus, the campus is rather pretty with lots of nooks and crannies around campus, is conveniently located, and is heavily connected to its community and the cities around it.Katie Siddiqui

The schooling is great I am an engineering student and have had some success at SJSU! Professors and some staff are very nice to work with. HOWEVER, that is where it ends. The bureaucratic offices are horrible. Such as Housing at SJSU. Housing sucks! They refuse to aid the student. All complaints are either dealt with and solved in about a month or not at all. The WiFi that I pay for is garbage and hardly works ever, and when it does it’s only at 3am. The food is also not great. I over hear that all the food is local which is completely not true it’s from Sysco and another large food transport. Overall it is definitely not worth the money to live on campus because it SUCKS! I can only speak for CVC and it truly sucks. I’ve had a horrible experience here.Jack Hyland

My daughter went through the nursing program and graduated in 2017 with honors! It’s a very tough intense program but well worth it!! The professors are awesome! They really prepare you and most graduates will be be able to land a great job in the Bay Area! When potential employers see where you graduated from it is a big advantage!! There are several friends of my daughter who graduated from various 4 year schools and had to move out of the area or state.
