My family would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to the Griswold Home Care family! I call them a family because that's exactly how they treated us. After a less than satisfactory experience with another agency, we decided to give Griswold a try to help with our 92 year old mother (who after suffering a broken leg in a fall and also a small stroke, was somewhat diminished in her capacity to care for herself). From the initial meeting with the Griswold representative, to the writing of the care plan and the meticulous effort put in to finding the perfect caregivers to work with us, Griswold performed at a 5 STAR LEVEL the entire way! There was constant communication from our Care Coordinator, Ashley Deleon who worked tirelessly to ensure that our needs were met. While every caregiver we encountered showed kindness and compassion to our mother (as well as to our special needs younger brother who lives under our mother's care), I would be remiss if I did not mention the stellar care that was provided by our 2 primary caregivers, Katina Jenkins and Emma Jones. We could not hope to find 2 more loving souls in which to charge with our mother's care. We could rest easy during the night knowing that these ladies were keeping watch. They both went above and beyond to keep us apprised of not only any medical complications but also the great progress our mother was making. I truly believe their love and care contributed tremendously to our mother's rehabilitation. While we will miss seeing all of the caregivers who helped during this difficult time, I am happy to report that our mother is now able to care for herself again. I cannot say enough good things about Griswold. We used them for 3 months until my mother required a medical facility. Ashley worked diligently to help me find the best fit for 24/7 caregivers for my mother. Once we had a great crew, Ashley would let me know if there were any changes. Thankfully, that didn't happen often. Even during the freeze, they were able to provide someone when needed. Their "24 hour notification policy" worked well for any family events or changes we need to make. Her caregivers came with her to family functions so that everyone could have a good time. They even attended doctor appointments. I could drop them off at the door and I could park the car with no worries. They were trained to deal with any difficulty my mother threw their way and handled her with compassion and kindness. Everyone at Griswold was always so kind and caring. The director Brenda Gross sat with us for as long as we needed to answer any and all questions about what our plan for care would be. Our caregiver Paula was such a joy to work with. She was always early for each shift and so patient in everything she did. My 91 year old father, who is a stroke patient, came to live with me and my husband 3 years ago after my mother passed away. We struggled weekly to get him to take a bath with assistance by my husband. On the agreed scheduled day for bathing, my father would "feel bad" and negotiate a later date. Bathing a partly paralyzed, uncooperative adult is not easy. So last fall when my husband and I were going to travel overseas for our 25th wedding anniversary, we needed help. Our son was coming to live at our house to take care of my father . It was not appropriate for our son to bathe his grandfather. So my father's doctor recommended I contact Karena Kirk with Always Best Care Senior Services. I had never considered using outside care for my father. Best phone call I have ever made. Ms. Kirk came to meet with me to discuss my father's needs. My father was very reluctant at first. But after the first bathing event, HE IS IN LOVE. Ms. Kirk was gentle, kind, engaging in conversation and asking my father regarding what he needed in this new care relationship. My father knows that his bath schedule is every Monday and Friday and looks forward to Ms. Kirk and her staff coming to care for him. He has in-depth talks and loves their visits. My brother Joseph had a stroke in November 2021 leaving him bed-ridden and unable to walk. He was discharged from the hospital because they could not provide him with any further assistance. A case worker from the hospital recommended a home health residence so he went there. After just a month, I realized that this private residence was poorly managed and my brother was being neglected. I have never been in a situation where I am responsible for a disabled person and I had no idea what to do. So I started calling professional home health care providers but was overwhelmed with costs and availability. In my search, I saw Home Instead on Gessner which is close to me. I had to have my brother out of the private residence by the end of December. I called an spoke to Greg who turned out to be the franchise owner. This was on X-Mas Eve, 12-24-21 and when I explained my situation to him, he said "I'll be there tomorrow if that's OK with you". I couldn't believe that an owner would take time on Christmas Day to meet a new, potential customer. We met at my house on Christmas Day and after an interview and assessment of the situation, I told him that I needed someone at my brother's home on 12-28-21 and he said that he had a person who would be a perfect fit. I signed the contract that day. Sure enough, I went and picked up my brother from the private residence on 12-28-21 at 9:00am and arrived at home at 10:30 to find a care provider named Emily waiting for us. We greeted each other, I gave my brother an overdue haircut and shave and Emily and I helped Joe into the bathroom for his first shower in 2 months. At that moment, I knew that I made the right decision and that Greg is a man of his word. To this day, Emily is still my brother's caregiver on Mon-Fri and we have other caregivers for the weekend. All the caregivers at Home Instead we have used are polite, caring and professional. Greg is a true professional and he knows how to run a specialized business. Now that I have learned a bit about home healthcare, I am still impressed by the fact that Greg is a hands-on owner who manages and coordinates his staff of schedulers and billing admins. I can honestly say that Home Instead and specifically, Greg's franchise, provides home healthcare services that are Second-to None. My sister and I engaged with Home Instead to provide caregiving services for our elderly mom. Our mom has always been independent and very social but unfortunately vascular dementia had robbed her of some of her independence. Although I was working from home due to Covid-19, I still spent hours in my home office so I was unable to provide her with a lot of the social interaction needed during the day. I want to recognize Home Instead for their outstanding caregivers, as well as their professionalism and integrity. Greg Gomez-Mira visited by my elderly parents and spent over an hour and a half with them to understand their needs, and to get to know them personally. Unlike most companies that find a questionnaire sufficient for evaluating care needs, Greg spent the time to assess my parent's needs and requirements in a more complex, and multi-faceted manner. My father has moderate dementia, and the caregiver who is now working with him is compassionate, kind, and talented. She spends considerable time developing ways to engage him kinesthetically, as well as mentally, and works in a true partnership with my mother to manage all of his requirements. Beware, run don’t walk away from them. My mother was assaulted by a home health aide this Summer. After being given the run around, we filed a complaint with them and their alleged investigation concluded that it’s my mother’s word against the lies of the aide. I regret not reporting this to police. Another aide told my mother that “she’s old and should just sit down and be quiet.” A non-English speaking aide was sent to us once, and we had to turn her away as we did not speak her language. Mind you, English is our language. Left message for agency and no one got back to us. We went two days without an aide. Some aides are late, by up to an hour, and still leaves without putting in their full amount of work hours for the day. Administrative staff (coordinators) are curt and often don’t return calls. I just tried calling a few minutes ago to speak to the coordinator of my patient and was given a hard time even though I gave the extension for the person whom I wanted to speak too. I also called there to let my coordinator know I was taking a day off. I was never transferred over to speak to the coordinator to let him know and your answering representative kept answering the phone even after I put in my extintion. However I did leave a message but my coordinator never received it. They send unskilled people, on the phone they will say their caregivers have 20+ years of experience but when it comes to performing the most basic of tasks they will say they are unable to do so. FreedomCare has its pros and cons. I love the fact that I’m able to care for my mom but there are other companies that offer the same services with higher pay. I have been with the company a little over a month now and am still trying to setup direct deposit although I sent all the proper information. I was also offered classes at intake so I can learn how to better care for my patients and every time I inquire about the classes I get a run around or simply no response. I’ve tried reaching my assigned coordinator but am always unsuccessful. Schedule change is a hassle being that we can never get someone on the phone to assist. The staff and polite but not very helpful. Overall freedomcare provides opportunities they help you care for a loved one and refer other clients who are in need of care.Lydia Aybar
By far THE WORSE CDPAP PROGRAM EVER! As a patient of Freedomcare they hard extremely hard to get in contact with when I need to express my concerns and needs. My home health aide couldn’t get the help she needed with her timesheets, YES I SAID TIMESHEET(s) not one but many of them that Freedomcare refused to help with which resulted in missed paychecks. I recently started with FreedomCare being the paid caregiver for my mom. I've been doing the work all along so already had a good amount of knowledge on caregiving. I contacted them many months ago while I was considering the CDPAS program and the team was very helpful and responsive. When I decided to come on board they were very patient and supportive every step of the way. Really glad we joined FreedomCare. My only regret is not coming on board sooner. Of course there is an enrollment process in the beginning but they really help you through it..not complicated at all. Recommended!E H
Use a different company. Freedom care has coordinators that get paid without doing their job. Your paycheck is always missing days and no one cares. You work a whole week. Clock in and out. Their system doesn’t register half of them and you don’t get paid until the following week. Where you now have to send a timesheet with the days missing , coordinators , supervisors don’t do anything. I’m searching for a different company. If you want to get paid , this is not the one for you.Liz Montanez
Freedom care has been a life saver. They have been right there and always ready to assist if we had a problem with paperwork or a n application. Everyone has been wonderful so far it is quite a lengthy process but worth it. You won't get rich but it helps so I can stay home to take care of my loved one so I don't have to go back out into this risky health care world right now. I went to get tested after being exposed and showing symptoms of covid. I was tested 7 days ago and still have not gotten my test results. I also went to be tested with 2 other members of my family who also have not gotten their results. Every time I reach out to this company whoever controls the WhatsApp messaging service seems to not care at all about me needing to know what my results are for my job and brushes me off. I’ve tried reaching out to the lab myself and can’t get any answers there either. At this point I am ready to go to an overcrowded urgent care to be tested. In my case, it was finding the right caregiver to help my 85 year old Mom, after she went from being totally independent, to needing around the clock assistance so that we could keep her in her home. It seemed like a difficult task to find the right caregivers, and we had tried several other companies, and many caregivers by the time I found Sheilas company. As soon as I called her, I knew I finally found the right place. Sheila intuitively knew that skills were important in the caregiver, but so was personality and style. She always went above and beyond to work with us, to find the right people, and we felt so lucky to have an incredible pool of wonderful caregivers to work with. Sheilas Angels was referred to me by a friend who had their home care services to take care of their parents in Clear Lake. They had a very positive experience and suggested I give them a call. My mother lived alone in her house and had increasing signs of memory issues. As time went by it was clear that she would need to receive care at home or move into an assisted living community because of her mental decline. She had expressed a desire to remain at home after my father passed and I decided to respect her wishes by looking into care at home. At the time I knew very little about what services were available. I contacted Sheilas Angels, and they explained the various options available. We started out with hourly care several days a week and eventually as my moms issues increased we moved to have a live-in caregiver. This all took place over the course of about two years. And the Sheilas Angels team was with me throughout the entire process. Elder Advisory Group has a plan. And that's a huge thing. When you're trying to figure out what to do for a loved one who may be failing physically or mentally, it's hard, and it's even harder to know what to do. You need a plan. And, as noted, Elder Advisory Group has one. That doesn't mean it's the same plan for everyone. I wound up talking to them to help my mom, who was suffering from what I would later learn was Alzheimer's dementia. Toni Kercher, one of the care managers, was instrumental in figuring out an appropriate placement for my mom and pulling the strings to get her there. Toni helped out multiple times during my mom's decline, and she was a calming influence for both my mother and for me. It was just good to know that there was someone who really knew their stuff helping to make the big decisions. There's a lot of peace of mind comes with that. Watching a parent grow old and decline is never going to be an easy thing. You can't expect it to be. The best you can do is try to do your best for them, and that is what Elder Advisory Group seems to be good at helping you do. They have a plan when you don't. They know where to turn for information and resources at a time when you're feeling kind of lost. I turned to Toni multiple times, and she never failed to answer. A five star rating is not nearly good enough for the services my family has received from Elder Advisory Group!!!!! Trying to be an advocate for my Mothers healthcare and then trying to navigate that care thru insurance, Medicare, doctors and healthcare systems was the most frustrating and challenging process of my life. We happened upon Senior Helpers Central Houston in Nov of 2018, by just a random call, as we're not from Houston and were in a predicament with the health of our mother, who was the sole caretaker for her husband with dementia. Eduardo was our contact, and his professionalism and genuine caring spirit was unbelievable. He provided us with information regarding their services, and as my mother was deciding if she was open to assistance with her husbands care, he was in the wings waiting. A few weeks later, my mother's health declined, and we were able to call Eduardo and he put the necessary assistance needed into place within hours! There was constant contact from the Senior Helpers team, via calls and texts, and Eduardo even introduced the caregiver to us, with special attention paid to my mothers husband on the first visit. Augustina has been our sole caregiver, and could not ask for anything more. She is soft spoken, engaging and interactive with her charge. My four sisters and I were understandably anxious about finding a companion for our elderly mother who is in assisted living in Richmond. Senior Helpers has made a wonderful difference in our lives. My husband, who has dementia and Parkinson’s, looks forward to the days he spends with our incredible and reliable caretaker. They plan all kinds of activities such as: workouts, grocery shopping, haircuts, restaurants; she takes him to doctor appointments and comes back with detailed notes for me; and she’s even had her children teach her how to play gin rummy so she and my husband can spend afternoons matching their skills at his favorite card game. Above and beyond our caretaker though is the incredible support we received from the Owner/President of Senior Helpers, Eduardo Visbal. He has spent hours and hours with us not only to make sure we had a good match with our caretaker’s personality, but also to help with our long-term insurance claim. When we had given up, he refused to, even getting on the phone with them to discuss our case. After six months we were finally approved, something we credit to him solely. I usually don’t write reviews but Senior Helpers really deserves these 5 stars. They have been such great help to me and my family. Mom has dementia and she would keep falling and hurting herself. We didn’t know what to do because my siblings and I all have jobs and our families, but obviously we felt terrible not being able to help her. One weekend we got together and decided to give different agencies a call, one of them Senior Helpers. Since then, not only have they helped us bring peace of mind back to the family, but mom actually loves having them there (mind you we always thought she was going to hate the idea of having a caregiver in her home). We thought it was funny cause she stopped calling us, and now when we call her she says things like she’s “busy getting ready to go to Memorial park” or “I can’t talk to you right now cause we are going out to eat.” Also, the best news is that mom hasn’t fallen ever since and that we now understand her dementia thanks to some DVDs the owner gifted to us. By far the BEST agency we have hired. My father has Parkinson’s and it kept getting worse. Before hiring senior helpers, we were working with another agency and it just didn’t work out because very often they wouldn’t show up. I live out of state so there’s nothing I could do to help him when they wouldn’t show up. He was missing Doctor appointments, therapy sessions and his health was being affected. Ever since I hired Senior Helpers, his Parkinson’s has gotten so much better. He is taking his meds on time, exercising every day, enjoying time with his caregivers and making it to every Doctor’s appointment. They also gave my father a free fall detection alert necklace which is a huge plus because its something I would always worry about. My family and I are so grateful for their help. We have used Home Instead Senior Care for almost 3 years now. I was prompted to find a service that could help me care for my Grandfather. Home Instead has enabled him to live independently in his home, which he strongly desired. The entire team at Home Instead has been amazing and are incredibly responsive to our every request. The biggest help to me is coordinating and taking him to doctor visits, appointments, grocery shopping, cooking, providing companionship, etc. His health has declined since we hired Home Instead, and they've been with us every step of the way. The staff at Home Instead has been extremely flexible and responsive to meet his needs as they change, working with me to adjust the visits accordingly. I have to say that they have always responded to us in a very timely manner and have helped me out in a few emergency situations where I needed a care giver outside our normal hours without notice. We are very happy with the care that we have received from Home Instead of North Houston. It seems like there is so much that needs to be done for someone who can't do for themselves, so receiving assistance from the capable and caring staff at Home Instead is so wonderful. We are in week 7 with Griswold Home Care in North Houston out of Spring and there is not enough space in this one review to write all the wonderful things I have to say. Father is 81 and feeble, mother is 75 with dementia about 2 years now. In the past 2 years father has been in and out of the hospital, rehab and skilled nursing and then we moved both parents 4 times in 3 months from home to assisted living, memory care and back home. We have had several home care agencies and individuals and have been very dis-satisfied until now. Griswold Home Care has the most professional, caring, in touch, loving people we have ever dealt with. We are blown away at the service they provide taking care of our parents. We are so lucky to have the same care giver come in the morning to help parents with something to eat and medication and then again in the evening for dinner and meds. Not only does she help with food and meds, but with house keeping, (sweeping, mopping, laundry, changing linens, clean bathroom) and most important, she gives tender love and care to my parents better than we can. Before Griswold Home Care, I could not tell you when was the last time my mother had a shower or changed clothes and she quit taking her meds. She would not do any of the above for us. My mother bonded with our care giver after about 2 weeks and she was able to get my mother to shower, change clothes and take her meds. This is a miracle in my book and we are forever thankful. Have you ever wondered what Home Health care for a loved one or yourself looks like? I sure did! I checked out many caregiver companies. I feel blessed that I found Griswold Home Care in Houston. First I needed to get care for my 95 year old sister. She was having trouble walking (painful hips) and was frail but mentally alert. My sister and I were interviewed by the owner. The company makes a great effort to match the client with one of their caregivers. They did an excellent job to get a lady that could take care of her physical needs and help keep her mentally happy, which was not an easy job. Shortly afterwards I fell and broke my left leg and damaged my hip. At 85 years old that is not good. While I was in rehab I called Griswold to help me when I went home. I knew of their excellent help and reasonable fees from helping my sister. The ladies they have sent to help me are honest, kind, caring, and skilled. In addition to caring for me they have done a good job keeping my house in order. They also drive me to my Dr. appointments and to the beauty shop to get my hair done which makes me feel so much better. Having used Griswold Home Care 2 times now, I can highly recommend them as the top of all companies providing home care services.Jane Wallace
Griswold Home Care provided excellent service for my wife who was suffering from congestive heart failure, stroke, and the onset of dementia. The caretaker assigned had performed all of her duties in a professional manner. Griswold management was always available to discuss any concerns about the care and offered additional information about the condition of my wife which was helpful to me as her caregiver. Unfortunately my wife had to be admitted to the hospital for critical care. Griswold also helped me choose a skilled nursing facility and a mental care facility after she was discharged from the hospital. Very unpleasant and nasty staff. Never answer phone calls and never return messages. Overall, it is a struggle and frustrating to deal with the staff at this agency. The only good side is that this is one of the agencies that offer average pay through the CDPAP program.Denise Santana
