19 Best G.E.D Programs In Springfield, MA (2022 Updated)

I took the CNA ‘Plus’ programme there back in October 2021. For $2395 we never got a clinical! And the facilities and equipment provided were unbelievable! One mannequin with its leg falling out and not even a proper night gown to keep it from being exposed! Sheets were dirty! Equipment faulty, and now we are STILL waiting to take our state licensure exams! If you’re taking the CNA programme, do not take the “plus part” it is a waste of money and time. State Street U is amazing. I attended 22 years ago and stopped by for the first time since then and I was amazed to find, updated buildings, a beautiful store, and a whole new feel. The professors and professionals were mostly great when I was there and though I don't attend, I had a chance to talk to administrators and they are still amazing. It is a fantastic education at a great price. If you are looking for a great community college, look no further than STCC. The only people who don't like this place are the potheads, they just don't like putting their kids before their weed and actually act like a responsible adult and taking care of their kids sober. That's not the YMCA's problem. Their concern is the safety of the children and apparently they're doing a good job at it even if pothead parents don't like it. Grow up. If you don't like it you don't have to be here. The YMCA offers a ton of fitness classes and programs here, and in other facilities. Every YMCA membership is equipped with a nationwide membership which means people can stop complaining about the lack of pool and go to another YMCA that has a pool. Simple solution. There's plenty of public transportation options available if you don't drive. Stop complaining. If you don't like it here cancel your membership. The YMCA offers so much for community wellness including classes, programs, nutrition counseling, personal training, physical therapy, games and more. Today I visited the new facilities at 1500 Main St, Springfield, and they look amazing. On the first floor they have child care. The gym and other amenities are on the 2nd floor. At the reception I was received by some girls who very kindly guided me on how the new installation works, registration, costs, special program (Jump start) which offers you a personalized service with an instructor according to your goals. They have modalities such as Zumba, yoga, lower toning class, boot camp, Y-Spin, ABSolute core, Tabata, Zumba gold, Strong nation and Pound Pro. Hours are Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. closed on sundays. Unfortunately in this new facility there is no swimming pool. Good new look! Disappointed that there isn't a track or a gym for the kids. I think membership will decline. I feel membership fees should be waived until the YMCA reopens. It's not that members aren't showing up! The YMCA is closed due to thing beyond our control. Omg I remember the gray house back in the days use to be my neighborhood since my teenage years use to live the building next door and me my brother,and little childrens volunteer to renovate this beautiful house it use to be abandoned and the sisters and community helped get it so beautiful that is now and we have learned alot and improved my English and they are well communicator they did a very good job bringing the community together of learning and teaching the kids and adults I dont know if they still have the oldest brochure when they opened the gray house we are in those brochure they are very friendly and sweet they open the doors to whoever need the help from the sisters God bless them all love the gray house 😍😍Gloria Santiago

Just spoke to Aisha and I she was curt. According to her, the only clothing provided is winter coats. I asked about services for a family of eight and she just said Gray House does not provide clothes, there is a market instead of food pantry, and even though I thought she told me she was the Educational director, she did not share any educational resources for the six children of the family. This place really helps people I really appreciate the staff they are very friendly. And helpful. If you need food or even learn English or how to read and write they will teach you all that. The program cost you $20 which is very cheap but after that you paying nothing else. They are very resourceful as well.Eugene Thurston

Very good location with lots of free parking. The building is newer and very clean. They offer many different programs for unemployed workers such as computer classes, resume writing and use of computers for job searching. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They also have onsite job fairs and help answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend giving them a visit if you're having trouble finding a job.John Papasodora

Whoever is the guy answering the phone needs to learn interpersonal skills, education, phone etiquette, and finally learn to properly answer a phone and answer any question to any potential person may have. Holyoke Community College is not the ideal college for students with Learning Disabilities. The Disability office fails students with learning disabilities and suggests classes that are not the right fit for the students learning style and when they issues getting the book ECT the office for students with disabilities blames the student for it when it's on the office of students disabilities is at fault. Holyoke community college makes a big deal on how great the office with students with disabilities is and the truth is it is a horrible experience for students with learning disabilities. Holyoke community doesn't follow up with professors to make sure they are following the students accommodation agreements from the office with students with disabilities instead they side with the professor that is not following the students accommodation agreement which is against the Law. Holyoke Community College also makes the student pay money for classes that HCC placed them in. They should not make students with learning disabilities Pay for a class that they messed up with placing the student in. The head of the office with students with disabilities acts like she has an attitude like the student is bothering her and sends angry and nasty tone emails to the student who she is suppose to help support. Holyoke Community College office for students with disabilities is a joke and needs to be restaffed with people who.csre about students with learning disabilities. If you have a learning disability I recommend applying to Westfield State University for better college experience and kind support. HCC office or students with disabilities staff also gossips with teachers from high schools about students too. This why HCC is very poor . Don't waste the moment here. HCC office with students with disabilities is a Joke don't count on them for support . They will jus tblame you for things you had no control over. And they side with some high school teachers who also mis treat students with learning disabilities. The best support system I had at HCC was Ken White who was the dean of community service s he supported me from day one not like the office of student with disabilities.ED Clancy the English 095-101. Professor also supported me at HCC and he understood me better then Nancy at the office with students of disabilities. Ed Clancy is amazing Professor and should be recognized. Personally I wish this school could get me a bachelors. I spent 3 years here and loved every minute of it. Only had one pror two problems with professors but good ones out weighed the bad. Great to start if you're not sure what you want to study at first. Disabilities office was very helpful as I have dyslexia/learning disabilities, they were always offering ways to help me get my accommodations for professors. I believe those who leave 1 star reviews are mostly students upset their parents didn't want to waste $30,000+ on an education they'll probably just either party away or drop out of in a semester. I believe HCC gets you ready for the real world and those who are not aware of that definitely aren't ready for the real world. Overall HCC is a place where you get what you put into it. If you want to push yourself, talk to professors, take harder classes. If you are finding that a class is tough, most professors are willing to work with you to help you pass your classes. What's great about HCC is that there really is a space for everyone and felt safe, if you are ever uncomfortable in a situation, administration is always willing to walk with you to your car or bus and be on the down low on the issue if you need to talk to higher administration about such issues. As someone who took advantage of a lot of the programs there, I still wish I had taken advantage of a lot more. But I had a great time there and truely wish the best for future graduates. There are so many issues with HCC I don't know where to start. First of all why is all the food so unhealthy? I know there is no cafeteria, but the school could at least invest in some healthy meals for people. Also why are the professors so rude. All the professors I have had tell me how I'm always wrong, and then go on to explain how there knowledge is superior. I think most people that go to school here do not enjoy it at all. The floors, classrooms, and bathrooms are filthy most days since there is so little cleaning that is done here. There is very little student life or activities at this school. Most students go to class, and go home, or go to work. A lot of the classes at this school are not reality based, there based on what the government wants students to know. In my personal opinion this school worsens people's emotional and mental well being. I just don't get how a school could be allowed to operate in this fashion, plus cost thousands of dollars a year to go to. If you want to sit in plastic and metal chairs all day, and listen to someone tell you that they are smarter than you than this might be the school for you. If you want to be treated properly by people and be respected then this place probably is not in your best interest.Jessie Robinson

I've attended schools from Syracuse University to Holyoke Community College and AIC and STCC and Umass and no one can touch WNEU. AMAZING school. Insane involvement from faculty and staff. Career focused education. Professors that will challenge you NO MATTER who you are and what department you're in. I majored in Electrical Engineering, but took courses outside of Sleith (the engineering college). I enrolled in Spanish courses, Math course and Chemistry, which are all outside of the Engineering umbrella. I was astounded by how ubiquitous WNE's focus on high standards is. I earned a 3.9 GPA and was challenged in every course. Nothing was easy, but nothing was impossible. I highly recommend the university. Sure, rural Springfield is a bit of a let-down for things to do. The university does a great job of creating trips and events for students every weekend. Seize the opportunities and enjoy all that Western Mass has to offer. WNE is a great school for anyone looking to earn an education and secure a career by working hard and being focused on a brighter tomorrow. Thanks for a life changing experience.DPR _

This is a terrible Quiznos! I went in there asking for a grinder and the lady at the desk just looked at me confused. She wasn't wearing usual Quiznos attire, instead she was wearing formal business attire. I thought this was the fanciest Quiznos I had ever been to. The sign above the counter said "Welcome Center", which I thought would be the place to order. In my experience, many of the staff are very rude, does not provide good and timely response, let alone horrible customer service. Let’s talk about the lack of quality work and the lack of academic advising performance. There isn’t any quality in that area at all, no “attention to detail” No one Seems have a clue or worse, they don’t focus on the older online students. The main focus is on the young students, and no one else seems to matter. For the amount of money we pay to attend this private school the service they provide does match our money at all. Let’s talk about some of the Professors. They might have PhD’s but they certainty behave themselves as not having no education at all in the way they communicate with students. Rude, unprofessional. For many of them it’s just a title and nothing more. Students surveys really need to be considered to possibly improve in certain areas that continues to lack in professionalism and “attention to detail.” Please start with the academic advising for the online students. This review is solely based on the library, which is open 24 hours of the day. The library comes with a Starbucks, and four floors providing ample amount of seating. The furniture is quite nice, and relatively comfortable. There are a great deal of computers to be used by students, and it comes with a gender inclusive bathroom on each level. Most teachers are sarcastic, just move a long even if you do not understand what is going on. These teachers need to go over the work with the students for lots that do not understand the subject they are trying to learn. Do your job, and the students won't fail. I graduated in 2006. Westover Job corps made a huge difference in my life at that time and I'm glad I joined and graduated from there. I would recommend joining to anyone who wants to learn a trade, graduate high school/GED and you can leave your current situation. They help you get on your feet before you leave, they house you,feed you and even give you a weekly allowance. The best part about it is that they give you money when you leave; if you graduate a trade also you can get more money depending on what else you decide to do there. You can get your drivers license, GED or HSD, and a trade certificate .So basically they pay for you to live there, feed you, school you and then give you money when you leave to have a fresh start. I love that it was free, and offer two years of college, or a transfer to extend education in same or similar fields. If you go with good intention for your future, it's great. Nevertheless their were lot of kids (16- 24 ages) that were from different states, for different reasons, good and bad. It's a second chance to make a change in your life. For you or your child. I left with my "high school diploma", my Pharmacy Technician, CPR and first aid, customer service, Safety, Basic and Advanced leadership, and Security Certification. Eight certificates in total. Beyond madd at this company! I usually come here Every year to get my voucher for my daughter for summer camp. This year I went in on my daily appointment with the paperwork that I needed the only people work they asked me to bring Farm Workers told me that I wasn’t able to get a voucher today because I need to amend my paperwork for the following year because I didn’t receive any mail from Farm Workers stating that I need to send or mail them a letter to Boston for an amendment of not receiving finalize paperwork stating of the fact. So here it is three weeks before camp they said Boston would mail it back to me in three weeks which my daughter when I’ll be able to go to camp this year because of it failure to tell me about any of this prior to my appointment it’s really rude not having anyone to care for my child of the summer of 2019jeanette scanlon

Extremely rude over the phone , I called yesterday about a situation, I was told what I had to do and at no point did she state I needed to come in physically and she was helpful at that point. I called my specific worker today, left a message , no response so I tried another line now this woman was rude and just kept responding "you need to come in for that " repeatedly. I calmly explained thats not what I was told yesterday so why is it different today? I graduated from the IB program (I'm not sure if the school still has the IB program now). I loved the program, got into six out of seven colleges, and graduated salutatorian. I still keep in touch with some high school friends after all these years. The teachers at this school were very friendly and cared about our success. The downside is, this school houses mostly underperforming and struggling students, and it's in a bad neighborhood with high crime rate. The CNA/HHA program here is a sham. It's run by egotistical instructors who care more about being BOSS then being professionals. During my 8 week program I came into this course expecting to do my work, earn my title and continue to add progression to my life. I had a 4 year old and a 2 month old whom I nursed. I pumped during my lunch hrs in class and I pumped during my lunch breaks during our clinical. My idea of accomplishing my goal didn't come with a guide book, I just knew I had one job and that was to succeed . My first test I scored a 98 and I continued to do great, I was learning a lot and I felt proud of myself. I didn't say much in class other then raising my hand to answer. I did it so I much I was asked to sit some out and let other people try. I didn't shout out answers but I was asked to refrain from asking questions , "it was obvious I knew what I was doing" I was told. One day I was asked to stay behind as the class was being dismissed for the day. What I wasn't prepared for what was about to be said. I was told by MRS.C that she had a student in her office in tears. She went on to ask if I knew why. I answered no, as I didn't and was told to think about it. I did and still the answer was no. I was then told I needed to be more open and welcoming and the kicker, "You Come Off As if You Think Your Better Then Everyone Else Here." I asked how, and I was simply told that that was a question I would have to ask myself. You see and that's my problem. You pulled be back and told me I come off as if I think I'm better then anyone here but yet you fail to give me an example on how I'm doing this. I explain that being quiet is part of my nature and I state that I didn't come here to make friends. I was then told that I might be in the wrong program because people come as friends and leave as family. I then told my instructor that I had a family at home, and she told me I should go home and think about what I wanted to do next and if this program was for me??? -I get in my car and I'm in tears, I don't know what just happened. But I feel bad, somehow I was in trouble but I could t be told what I did wrong. I came in the day and every that followed but with this heaviness in the air. Walking into the class felt like I was being held down by an anchor , now I really kept my hand down and I was even quieter then before. During my clinical my instructor would give me multiple patients to care for while my colleagues Had just one. Even though I were paired in two I was always left to bathe, feed and dressy paitence alone. One day we got into a confrontation, I refused to finish a patient that was not mine because at this point I was getting tired of being picked on. I had done my work and my 300lbs patient all alone. So I stood my ground, I was told I was being insubordinate and that I was done In the program. I went home and came back the next day. I walked in and I sat down. Nothing was said. I believe that had I stayed home there would have then been a reason to kick me out but I knew in my heart I was being targeted and I believed that standing my ground was the right thing to do. The day before my clinical were asked what we felt insecure about. Regarding our state exam the next day. Mrs.C told us that whatever it was we could work on it. I feared bedpan and denture cleaning, simply because the test is imaginary, you present to do all of these things and I fears forgetting a step because those two had serval you had to do in a certain order. Out of an entire class I was the only student who did bedpan and dentures. The ONLY one. Every other student got something like wheelchair transfer for range of motion excrcise. Curious isn't it.? I also was given a bad review. She wrote that although I was smart, recieving a 98 on my first test and passing all others after, she still did not believe this job was for me, she wrote that I did not work well with others and that I had expressed wanted to be A Home Health Aid Not A CNA.
