20 Best G.E.D Programs In Rochester, NY (2022 Updated)

My son recently graduated from this college. He transferred in from a 2 year college so he was only there for 5 semesters. Things started okay but went downhill. Communication quickly became a problem. We had issues from professors, finance and counseling. It became so bad that to get anything done we had to cc the Dean in any messages that we sent. I also know of someone else who had to do the same thing. The last semester was the worst. He was enrolled as a full time student but when the bill came through it was in correct. We got loans for the first amount but had to get additional loans after the semester ended. No one sent an email we had to check the account because my son never received an email or his diploma. When we were notified by the finance department they told us we had to fix it. Numerous emails were sent to many different people but nothing was ever fixed. We finally resent the emails and cc’d the Dean and it finally got fixed. The college also changed the advisor without notifying us that it had changed. My son had to find his own internship and figure his classes out on his own. My daughter had the same issues with communication. She was signed up to go but never heard back. She then got a call from the advisor asking why she never showed up. The advisor had enrolled her in classes but never told her. She ended up not going. If you choose this college they will take your money but you will have to do a lot of work to make sure they are on top of things.Todd Crossett

I graduated from Roberts last year and I had a great experience. I do agree with some reviews that communication is not always great, but as long as you are proactive and take an active approach to your education here, you'll do wonderfully. The staff and students are very respectful and the professors seem to really care about you and your overall success. It is a nice size campus, not too busy and not too small. I went to undergrad here and loved it. There were always opportunities to learn outside of class, meet people through activities, and my professors knew who I was. Terrible when it comes to visitors and what information they tell you. My sister is currently in this place and apparently I can’t visit her. When my mom called them, they told us “only two set visitors can show up to visit the patient.” Nowhere on the pamphlet did it say that. The pamphlet says “immediate family members are welcome to visit during the day” and “other family and friends may visit Monday-Friday”. Also, they said it’s a rule due to covid. Everybody in our family is vaccinated including my sister (the patient) + we haven’t been near anybody with covid at all. Thanks to the hospital to telling us about this policy, my brother and father have wasted just about 3 and a half hours of their day going to visit, told they can’t, and driving back. Also, what happened to the no electronics thing? Everybody was told she was not allowed near electronics, but all of a sudden, she’s allowed to have a zoom meeting via iPad? They just broke their own rule which was already stupid in the first place. This whole place is a disaster.AverageBoi2356

Spent 6 hours at this hospital. They don't seem to do anything but COVID. I told them multiple times I didn't have COVID but they wouldn't be convinced so they sent me home with no diagnosis, convinced they were right. Got my negative test result from them this morning but that doesn't help my 101 fever. People need to trust that a hospital will actually do their job instead of just assuming they know. Really scary and pathetic to think how many people this has happened to.djrethoret

Horrible if I could rate 0 stars I would. Honestly this has to be the most worst medical center in the US. It makes every other center pool bad this place should've been shut down from the start I hope they know how to deal with lawsuits better then they're students/patients cause by the way this place is running they're gonna have a fun time in court. have two sons that attend Sylvan. One of them is enrolled in the Reading program, and the other son is in the Math program. Both of them have improved significantly in their abilities and what the teachers and program has given them. Their grades in school have gone up and we could not be more proud. Our experience with the staff and teachers has been wonderful! They are very accommodating to our schedules and always have an opening for a make up if we need to make up a session. Every 6 weeks I get to meet with Carol and she goes over how the boys are doing and she provides me feedback from their teachers. The teachers focus on areas needing improvement and also those for mastery. This has helped by boys out significantly. We are very pleased at Sylvan.The Kumars

Our daughter has been attending Sylvan for the last year. From our first encounter everyone has been very supportive. You feel like you are apart of a family. Sylvan has great communication with the school, this helps everyone to work towards a common goal. We have seen an improvement in our daughters work. Sylvan has taken the pressure off of us. I honestly am so pleased to write this review. I have been going to Shear Ego to Ms.G (Allison Gabello) and her great student Melissa for about 3 weeks now. Every week they have been doing treatments for my skin to help with my acne problems. I have been suffering with this for years and nothing has ever helped me. There were even times I would cancel plans due to my skin conditions. Ms.G is teaching her students to listen to the clients concerns and to observe the skin to assess the client properly. Her dedication to helping her clients astounds me! I highly recommend anyone who would like to experience this amazing place to go immediately set an appointment with her and her class! I am excited to continue this journey with her and hopefully better my skin and be able to not wear makeup to embrace my natural skin! I have worked at Shear Ego International School for almost a decade and I can honestly say that I love what I do! The entire building radiates professionalism within a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Being surrounded by individuals who are passionate about the beauty industry (both students and staff) while being able to witness students pursue their dreams makes my job VERY rewarding. I am very disappointed in my experience here, I felt like they were deceiving at my tour and orientation. The full time instructors don’t care about what goes on among the students. I tried reaching out to instructors after a situation occurred and they wouldn’t give me the time of day….I switched from days to nights, and the part time program is so much better. The instructors provide more personal instruction and it has a stress free environment. Mr. Ellis and Mrs. Case make their students feel comfortable and supported. Update 10/21/22 Looks like theirs still a lot of issues inside the program, especially with the administration. I'm an excelling student and was rewarded F's on assignments that I received a 100% for submitting assignments early. This is not in the syllabus or Bryant and Stratton's policy that you can not submit assignments early. I'm paying 10,000 this semester and I'm halfway through the RN program. It sickens me that instructors will intentionally try to fail A-B students who have the hunger and drive to learn and excel. Administrators and staff are continuously negligent to listen to the concerns of students and frequently ignore urgent messages from students who try to succeed and earn the grades that they work hard for. Update 3/3/22 I wanted to take a second to thank the school for its willingness to fix every issue that I have encountered. I do appreciate all of the hard work. Update 2/23/22 I think I’m just being told things to stop calling and shut up. I’ve been trying to get the school to answer my questions about transcripts and have them evaluated. I’ve been calling and working with them for weeks was told that they had them, inquired today and was told that they do not have them and my evaluation is not complete “some how”. I’ve sent my transcripts over twice, verified the information, was told that they were going to request my transcripts themselves which apparently didn’t happen. no one answers questions, no accountability, no one knows what’s going on. I’m so frustrated and defeated I just want to go back to school and this is what preventing me. It’s impossible to get in touch with ANYONE and to see where your at in the admission process. I’m so disappointed. Call center says that they do evening classes for nursing they do not. It is a full-time daytime program Monday through Friday not flexible 46,400 for 4 semesters. Teas test for admission 30 student class sizes 3 starts a year January, May, and September they are 16 month programs. Is accredited and you can sit for nursing boards if you go here. I was super intersted in the new RN program so I attended an informational session on 1/19/22 to hopefully start in May 2022. The next step was to reach out to our admissions rep which I did on 1/21 via email to let her, Sam, know I was intersted and to start the next steps. No response. I again reached out on 1/22 to inform her that I had sent over my high school and college transcripts. No response. Again, I reached out on 1/28 to see if my transcripts had been received because they had not been opened. No response. Let me add that I had called and left voicemails as well for this rep between these emails. I then called the main line to recieve assistance on 2/23 because I received an email saying my college transcipts had not been downloaded and were now expiring. I then got a call from Sam immediately who then scheduled a financial aid meeting for 2/28. She seemed hopeful she could get me in the May class still and get all my credits together to see whether I would be full or part time. She told me to get my ATI sent over before the financial aid appointment so I paid $20+ to do so on 2/23. I attended my financial aid meeting on the above date and filled out all my FAFSA with the FA rep. I also filled out the email paperwork sent to me from the FA rep and then wrote a text to Sam to let her know I was set and to "Please keep me updated with the evaluation so I can schedule my accuplacer!" No response, suprise! After that it was my last straw because I do not want to attend a school where their staff is completely unorganized. It really is disheartening because the program seems awesome. They also could not answer my questions about accreditation, which to me seems like they aren't knowledgeable about it. this school is disgusting my girlfriend took her penn foster high school diploma there and got into a medical assistance class and she wanted to switch her major so they told her to hurry up and withdraw and she will be able to sign up for the major she wanted so she did now she have to pay a entire loan off in order to go back when she wasn't there for 2 weeks now this penn foster diploma is not at there site anymore and they are being real nasty with getting her proof she even took it there in the first place Bryant and stratton really need to be investigatedLavonte Robinson

I wouldn’t recommend to anyone trying to better their lives. They promise you a job at the end of your course and then claim that there are no jobs available. The teachers use their time to threaten you and accuse you of talking, not paying attention or just deviant behavior while you sit their silently and then all faculty staff say “well it’s a free program” they also threaten to remove you from class and tell you to “get out” if you have questions or you bring up things that you’ve learned before that challenge what they’re teaching and ask for clarification. There was a teacher who would actively blame me for the things the girl next to me did. If she was speaking in class, eating or even sleeping she would accuse me of being the one talking or the one that was influencing this grown girl to behave the way she did. While I sat there quietly and did my work. Don’t do it if you have anxiety or depression cause this place will push you to kill yourself having to survive here. They also remind you that you’re a charity case that they have blessed with the right to attend to school.Alana Hernandez

While the staff has a friendly disposition, the biggest problem at this location is that one person follows the rules and then another does not on staff. It is only when it is convenient for them. I do not have time for constant run around with things that take up MY TIME while I AM THE ONE LOOKING FOR A JOB. This is not a organized and efficient way for each person to be dealt with on a one-on-one basis. This is a center that is supposed to make things easier for the people that come to use the computers and services so that they can get back into the workforce. NOT CREATE OBSTACLES! I asked to speak to the manager about services and I was told that the manager of this location may be busy at this time. If you are a center that is concerned with the services that your local residents are receiving, then you have time to listen to the concerns of those people so that you can make adjustments to the function of your office. This place is a joke . They computers seem to be messing up everyday . I have had bad experience since day one with Rochester works . I tried to join the Seafarer International Union my work advisor Tom Chillburt tried to get me persuade Siu to get themeselves accredited by New York DOL so they could recieve New York accreditation. Who on earth has THEIR client explain to a union how to get accredited by Department of Labor for New york. Made me look bad to the union I am trying to join . This is a discouragement for all of us in low income bracket trying to get ahead. the few work force center in our city completey falling apart literally and metaphorically. I do not recommend Rochester works unless your on unemployment and they have been known to give funding then take it away at the last moment . THIS non-profit needs alot of improvement. The staff is great, and waiting is minimal however after all my information was collected there was very little they could do for me. I don't need to use their computers, I have one at home. The biggest help was provided to me regarding my resume. The agent was very helpful in pointing out what was wrong with my resume and what I need to change. But after that there was nothing else there for me. Still I would recommend this place to anyone serious about job searches and preparations. As there are some work classes available for those who could benefit from going over the very basics of resume building, networking and interviews.Media Monster

When I attended this extremely conservative school, I was heckled on a regular basis by professors regarding the style of clothes that I wore. I was later forced to discontinue study in the program due to hearsay regarding my spiritual beliefs. I would not recommend this school, even as a last resort.Standard Candle

My daughter seems to love it there however I have had mixed feelings due to certain interactions in the beginning. Just recently we had a death in the family and was not able to make it to tutoring. I messaged them to inform them and Sylvia called back. She was very cold and offered no condolences, only a recap of their attendance policy as if deaths are planned. She then stated she would do me this "favor" and not charge us for the hours "this time". This frustrated me because not only is this insensitive and unkind, it's hypocritical because I have been waiting on a letter for weeks detailing my daughter's work and progress at this center and have yet to receive it. Seems they don't hold themselves to the same standard as those served. If they hadn't already gotten paid for my daughter to attend she wouldn't continue. Very disappointed.Tianna Johnson

I cannot say enough good things about our experiences at Sylvan in Greece. The investment is unquestionably worth it. We used to fight about getting homework done, struggle with implementing consequences for academic behavior, struggle to even be able to help her in the way that she needed to be successful at school. We have been at Sylvan three years now and it has helped her to become confident in her ability to self manage academic challenges. She has a relationship and sense of community with her instructors that makes her look forward to learning. We no longer argue about homework because she has appropriate resources available to her. This place has been great for my kids. My oldest learned new techniques that helped him get the grades he wanted and use that for the remainder of his high school year. He graduated. His little brother is now getting help that right now all kids need. This program is great. The people that work with the children seem very happy and engaging that is what kids need. , to be positive and help keep the kids self esteem up. During this crazy time when parents become teachers and have a house to run maybe a job to be at its a lot of pressure. My friend that warned me about them hit it right on the nail. They are not a organization that helps small businesses with loans. They lie about everything do Not be fooled. They are not upfront about reasons on why they don't give out money. Research proves that they are a "Non-profit" organization but collect profit from their real-estate department. Which makes them extremely profitable. They have plenty of money to lend to small businesses especially those with the correct criteria (business plan, projections etc.). Sorry, still not gonna happen. They will not lend to you unless they have a very very veeery did I say very? Big return from your business in profit. Also if your business will not make them look very good to the public then they will not gain good exposure and reputation with their "non-profit" driven government plan. For example if they own a property and your bringing in more profit for them with that particular property…..they're more likely to extend an offer to you because that will result in a great rep for them and bring them profit. Again anything to increase their real-estate margin & rep! I visited their website to see how big the company is and it looks like they have a lot of properties in more than one state including Puerto Rico! If anyone knows anything about real estate, it has an extremely wide margin for profit. In which I did a little more research and found out that they're doing substantially well. What a great scheme they have going on here. Rent to low-income families to take their money so they can get the government's grants so they can remain a "Non-profit" organization which allows them to skip out on paying taxes every year and keep their profit. Resulting in someone wiping their buts with Moulaa $$$$$$. Whether they have created a gimmick to make a log for the county of how many people are trying to become entrepreneurs for demographical statistics/purposes? I dont know. However what I am sure of, is that they are NOT giving out money to small businesses in an honest way. Well they have my $70 application fee and probably many others. What they should do is take the application fees and turn that into a small loan for someone with a dedicated heart that wraps around their business. "Hello Mr. Non-Profit", I have news for you. You're the poor one that needs moral assistance. The tenants you extend your properties to are the rich one's with pure hearts. They actually have a true life situation. I was able to take part in the 12 week Level Up program in Buffalo,NY. This class and program was so insightful and informative when dealing with business. The amount of information that your are given can be found in university classrooms. I love the staff here they really care about you the only thing I have a problem with really is with the receptionist they are really rude when you get there they are really unprofessional and in a place where you are supposed to feel safe because it is a supposed recovery place they make you feel really uncomfortable and they make you leave from the waiting room so if you ever feel like you are in a crisis mode and you are going to relapse don't go over there to feel like you are going to be in a safe place where you aren't going to relapse because they are just going to probably kick you out of the waiting room even after you tell them that you are there for your school or for the art group smh…Jose Fernandez

Not only was it outstanding for its serene and spacious campus and its architectural richness, but for the people. The friendly staff who greeted us, the advice of their genuine and truly supportive admissions counselors, the welcoming and enthusiastic professors we met were all top notch. We frequently get nor’easters, side affects from hurricanes that travel up the coast, as well as one winter we’ll get like a foot of snow and others we get snowed in so bad it’s level with your car. Not financial aide friendly. Tutoring for chemistry didn’t start until the fourth week of classes. The chemistry lab professor are rude grad students. The teachers are unorganized and unprofessional. I would not recommend this school to anyone. The ONLY good thing is the co-op.Laporcha Richardson

Upon entering we received a warm welcome from the receptionist. The staff, instructors, and students were not only professional, welcoming, and friendly. It was nice to see everyone work together and support each other. Kobie my son's barber was not only attentive, but he also took his time to understand our needs. The Institute was very top-notch, the building, facilities, and equipment are modern and well maintained. I'm very pleased with my sons haircut and level of service. What energy, what helpfulness, what roaring intent that encourages the most tepid of souls to reach for their dreams. I came in, a stranger to get a couple books and left with more books than anticipated, discovered a piano for my Songwriting, was given a list of local eateries for the best experience, and find out one of my childhood inspirations, Frederick Douglass, is interred nearby. After regaining my strengths at a locally recommended eatery I shall be visiting the grave of the mighty Frederick Douglass whose 4th of July speech was my first lesson in memorization, lyrical recitation, and public performance at the tender age of four or five. Twenty-five years later life isn't so simple anymore but the dignity, the encouragement, the hope that Papa Douglass inspired… It still lifts me in a sullen world where happiness is a heron fast fleeting. Rochester Public Library is a gem. A titan of an institution reminiscent in spirit and tone to the library of my childhood in D.C., the indefatigable Library of Congress itself.Francois

Beautiful art deco building. The library occupies 2 buildings that are connected by a tunnel that is built into the abandoned subway of Rochester. You will admire the waterfalls coming out of the arches on the bottom of the old library building. Great pictures can be taken at night with the Google night sight.Vadim Solodukhin

Very polite and helpful staff. The library is clean. Interconnectivity through the tunnel is amazing, especially during bad weather. Parking is free for the first hour or two with validation of your parking stub. I couldn't ask for more. Good restaurant and great selection of food.Pushap Arora
