The teachers are great and the campus is nice but trying to get financial aid during COVID is impossible. The financial aid advisors are rude and don’t seem like they want to help you at all. Just because of this reason I will not be recommending MHCC to any of my friends and would suggest to go to Clackamas Community College where they are much, MUCH more helpful.Dima Poperechnyy

You have to take the bad with the good. There are some great people who work for this school, then there are people who could care less bout you and your education. They make you jump through hoops and pass you around with little to no help. As an adult student using the GI Bill, I think this was the perfect way for me to get back into the swing of college again. The instructors are way overqualified in most cases, and I think it is shameful that most of them have to work at multiple colleges in the area in order to pay their bills. The cost for students is a great value. The buildings have all been updated and I think are great. I really enjoyed coming here. I ended up with 2 associates degrees when I left here. The cafeteria when I was here was not good. Horrible food that was too salty for the most part. The section that helps Veterans maneuver the funding was questionable at times, but the area for Veterans to hang out or study was pretty darn awesome. Parking can be tight depending on the time of day.Andrea F

The Oregon City Campus is beautiful! The one stand out regarding education at CCC is the faculty care about their students. CCC is also the most economical Community College in the state. Some points of interest would be the Environmental Learning Center. What a fabulous place to view wildlife, native plants and meander peacefully around the paths. Parking is close. You can meander another 2.1 miles around the perimeter of the college on a wide path. Most is paved, the remainder is finely crushed compacted gravel, so pushing a pram or pulling a wagon full of little ones is easy. Many spots are shaded for you true Oregonian 🙂Karen M

I'd be very wary with this school. They don't pay the teachers for their full work. Instead ONLY pay them for the time they're with students and none of the prep. I don't know how this is legal, but it's robbing the students of an adequate education, and exploiting the teachers hard work. High turn over rate. The place is poorly run and managed. I am the parent of a student. I am very disappointed in the graduation venue they chose for these students who have worked so hard. First off everyone is talking through the ceremony, the sound system horrible, and awful old school auditorium. How disrespectful to the students to provide such a venue. I went to the Nursing program here after being CNA for several years, attending the program and getting licensed was the best decision I have ever made. The professors and instructors were very supportive. I’ll admit I was a little nervous signing up for this class because I didn’t know if it was real… it is! I’m glad others reviewed this so I knew it was real and that’s why I’m doing it for all you who are looking for a quick route to being a phlebotomist. I found this course extremely helpful with a great instructor. The first day we had some faulty models, however the instructor quickly replaced these by the next day with brand new models that worked very well. Ryanne was our instructor and was amazing! super patient and kind, making learning new things super fun and easy. The live draws made me anxious but we always had someone there to help us out to keep anyone from getting hurt. I attended the IV class and was not very happy with it. To start, the building was locked and you need to call them to be let in. This is not a new thing for them, as I was told after I got there that the building is locked every Saturday, yet there was no prior notice of this. They know that everyone coming for the Saturday class will have to be let in and they should have sent an email letting us know beforehand. Once there, we watched a 20 minute video (if that) on IV insertion which should probably be updated since it stated to cleanse the skin for only 5 seconds before puncture, which is insufficient time to achieve proper cell kill. We were then let loose to practice on the mannequin arms. There was barely any instruction. I was expecting more than that, like some tips for difficult sticks. When it came time to stick each other, there was nothing available for hand hygiene. Best practice and standard precautions are to wash your hands before putting on gloves to perform any patient care, especially something involving body fluids/blood like a venipuncture, but there wasn’t even hand sanitizer (which costs a whole $1) in the room. Luckily, I had some in my car and left to get it. This is an instructional environment. Even if in the “real world” or in trauma cases (the reasoning that was given by the instructor) some protocol goes out the window, there is no reason for that to be the case when we are learning the skill to begin with. It’s simply bad practice. Additionally, 1hr of the 4hr class was dedicated to eating lunch, which is an absurd waste of time. Just skip the lunch break and make the class 3hr. And if you’re going to have a lunch break, which dirties everyone’s hands, have all the students wash before resuming practice. Overall, awful. Don’t waste your money people. Edit: Your rebuttal is uncouth, chimerical, and doesn't accurately address my criticisms. You refute the video by stating it mentioned, "allow to dry for 30 seconds" yet the issue is the time spent actually cleaning the site, which was stated as 5 seconds. People were not required nor instructed to perform hand hygiene before sticking fellow classmates. Even if they had been told to do so, there are numerous fomites between the bathroom and the classroom that would have rendered the hand washing moot. If you are out of hand sanitizer, go buy some. This class was not a surprise and adequate material should have been obtained beforehand, especially something related to infection prevention. If the class did not have a 1 hour lunch break, it would have only been 3 hours, not "4-5 hours in the middle of the day without food" as you state. Your defensive and sophomoric response only serves to further my point of how unprofessional this business is.Derussa Caine

Horrible experience. It’s a sham. DO NOT give them your money. They are not state funded, I couldn’t find them on the list of Oregon schools. All places I called never heard of them. They told me to pass you need to complete 50 pokes, we did 2-3 on live people. You literally sit watch YouTube videos then practice on mannequins then each other and that’s it.. I called everywhere after I finished the classes because it didn’t feel right. I got a call from Phlebotomy Training Specialists who really helped me move forward in their classes knowing we deserve better education.Lisa Oz

Very good class an affordable!! Instructors were great! Wish we would of learned more of the things you need to know as a phlebotomist ( like the color of tubes and what they mean an so on ). The down side is my class didn’t have very many people wanting to get poked , an the last day we had our class everyone didn’t want to practice so they took their hands on test and left. This is a review of the testing center. The facilities were clean, and the staff was friendly. I appreciated the space provided for locking my things while I was busy taking the test. There are two primary reasons why I am only giving 3 stars. 1) The lady sitting behind me who kept loudly farting. I had a 5 hour test, and in hour 2 this lady sat right behind me and started releasing the loudest and smelliest flatulence I have ever encountered. It was so loud I jumped in my seat, and when I looked behind me she stopped what she was doing and GLARED AT ME! I was stuck in an unventilated tiny prison with this fartmeister. I literally rushed through my test to escape her proximity (and luckily I passed). Not sure what the testing facility could have done… but maybe better ventilation and something that blocks noise better then tiny foam ear plugs? I would have been better off shoving the foam plugs up my nose. 2) PARKING. The 5 hour meters only take coins, and sorry but I do not carry around $7 in change with me. The 2 hour meters are further away, and are only 2 hours… so in the middle of my test I was supposed to move my car. I forgot, but luckily did not get a ticket. When I asked the administrator about parking he apologized, but then gave a parking pass to someone else right in front of me… 🙁 So my grand review… If I am paying hundreds of dollars to sit in a tiny room and experience a stressful test I want free parking and a fart free room please.Madeline Numbers

I was in the dental assisting program. I had the best experience with Carrington College. I had an amazing instructor, Mrs. Rochelle and a awesome career advisor, Tim. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed. Sam, at the front desk, was always great. She cracked a joke every once in a while which just sets your day off right. Lectures were very informative. Mrs. Rochelle has a background in dentistry and in public health, so it was a great experience learning from someone who knew what they were talking about. She will always work with you and set you up for success. Tim is the kind of career advisor you need as you are heading off to your externship sites, he will work with you, answer your questions, he is also honest and straight forward. If you’re considering coming to this school, please save yourself the $17K! Im currently a 2nd term student in this school. However, our teacher left as soon as term 1 was completed. Today, I have been in my course for a whole term with NO INSTRUCTOR/TEACHER. We are coming to campus twice a week and still learning nothing or comprehending the work. We been bouncing in between instructors for other courses who has no idea what we should actually be doing. Im considering withdrawing and pursuing my reimbursement. Wish I had done more research about this school. I contacted all appropriate people, admins, deans, supervisors. Nothing has changed, empty promises of “someone filling in or actually teaching the class” nope. Still no one and it’s been over a month. I start the MA program on Tuesday but everyone has be SO unbelievably helpful from the first phone call til now. I never thought I’d have a chance to go to college, my parents didn’t talk to me about it or encourage me. I finally decided it was time and Courtney made me feel safe and confident that I’d be successful. Fast forward to orientation, I had a leg injury and was nervous that I’d stick out. This was the best decision I ever made. I won’t lie, cost is steep, and it’s hard to work throughout parts of the program. However, if you’re considering going into the medical field, respiratory therapy specifically, this program is top notch. The director and instructors are amazing and if you put in the work and show up, they will be there for you every step of the way. It’s not an easy program, but it’s not impossible and the staff truly wants you to succeed. It takes hard work, dedication, and always being willing to learn; but it is so worth it in the end. I can’t speak for any of the other career fields, but the RT program is by far the best in the area. AND they do everything they can to help place you in jobs BEFORE you even graduate. I just finished the DA program at Concorde and it was an amazing experience. My Instructor Alyssa was awesome and truly helped me learn so much. She is such a welcoming and loving teacher who truly wants to see her students do their best. The program director Lindsay is wonderful as well and is always able to help whenever I have a question or even if I just need advice. You can always tell when Lindsay is around because she brings happiness and energy wherever she goes. She is such a hard worker who loves what she does and cares for each student so much. Steven is also an amazing person to talk to on campus. He goes above and beyond for his students and is always a friendly face to see on campus. I received amazing customer service from the college. They had the answer to every single question I could possibly have. I was greeted in a timely fashion. I went through all steps of admissions and sign up. Their campus is fun and interesting with a great crowd of people. I just completed my CNA2 certification class with Linda Schneider at TLC Education (aka Holgate Center). The nursing teacher was Ginna Vickory. Both Linda and Ginna were phenomenal at what they do. I learned so much and had a great time doing my clinicals at Providence Portland. Both Linda and Ginna were very informative and patient when it came to teaching the class and they both were genuinely concerned in helping further our careers in healthcare. I attended nursing classes hosted by TLC when Linda Schneider was running the Portland Community College CNA program. Linda's CNA programs are well structured and set students up to pass state exams for CNA licensure. Lots of my classmates have become RNs or gone on to work in valuable healthcare roles. This is a great way to begin a career path into healthcare. Instructors are nice, but it's really upsetting how they keep cutting class one hour to 3 hours short every day. One time the instructor cut the class almost 3 hrs short because she was tired. Another day, she said that she didn't have a good internet connection so she would send everyone a message, but she never did. Everyone missed a whole day and she didn't even message anyone to say that there wasn't going to be class. People request days off from work for what? So they don't even have class. Other times the instructor has left early just because she's tired ..and it's not just a few mins. It's always and hour to 3 hrs early. It's upsetting and especially because you still have to pay full price even though just the first week, students missed 9 hours of class!!!! On top of everything, you have to pay extra for cpr classes and your nar. It use to be included. It's fine, I'll pay what I have to, but stop cutting hours because that's not what we are paying for !!!!!! Today she let everyone early because she said everyone was tired, even though my son said he was fine staying till 1:30 like he was supposed to, but she said that no since she wasn't going to be there. My question is, why can't she stay till 130 like she's supposed to. I understand things are complicated with covid-19 going on, but they also shouldnt be sending students to clinicals when they haven't even done labs. They don't even want to give a discount for missing so many hours. I'm so upset with how irresponsible they are and unprofessional. Be ready to pay an extra 200+ on extra fees. For example 85 for NAC 85 for NAR and 90 for CPR. They don't even tell you from the beginning. They just tell you out of nowhere and their excuse is always the same "we didn't know". I graduated A couple classes ago. I thought that the instructors were nice. I passed the practical and the writing pretty well 🙂 I had a great class, we all helped each other with things we needed extra practice on. just make sure your on top of the home work and practices the skills, they’ll get you if you don’t Lol And I didn’t have to pay extra for my certificate. I know that one of my classmate had to retake a portion of another class because she’s missed to many hours. She might of had to pay for that? I really enjoy the online aspect because it gives me time to do things I want in my day and then dedicate time to school when it works best for me. As this is an accelerated program, about 7 hours of my everyday time is dedicated to my education. The labs help to learn our skills and getting a chance to see instructors and speak with them about material is very helpful. The program is expensive, but it is comparable with all other nursing programs in the Portland Metro Area where you can earn a BSN. I appreciate the accelerated aspect because in 16 months you will have your Bachelors degree in nursing, pass the NCLEX, and become an RN. Their pass rate for the NCLEX is 100%! It is slightly unorganized but they try their best to prepare you for this and stress the importance of being flexible. I know they are supporting me in my academics and nursing school journey and are always more than willing to help and provide any resources you may need. If you are a go-getter and self motivated student who can keep up with a fast-paced, self-taught program then this could be a great fit for you!Cali Cunningham

I'm so disappointed with this college. My experience with student services and some of the advisors has been terrible. I've sent my transcript multiple times, yet no one has any information about me. I keep going in circles and no one seems to know what they are talking about. How can I trust an institution that can't complete simple tasks and keep track of important student documents? I'm also wasting time and money taking classes that I should be able to test out of but haven't been able to because they don't have testing available due to COVID. The rest of the world is adapting so I'm not sure why this college can't get with the program. Seems like a good way to get more money out of students. Also, I believe because this is my second degree, I don't get priority registration for classes. I can't get into the ones I need. It's extremely frustrating. Overall I wish I would have applied to a different community college. The plus side to this place is the instructors. I've been impressed with the passion that they display. It's endearing. This review is not for my experience at PCC, which for the most part has been quite good. I've liked my professors, and have learned a lot over the last year. This review is for a recent experience I had with an advisor. I reached out to advising to discuss dropping out for the winter term because I contracted covid and homework was not something I could even fathom doing, and this was before my symptoms got as bad as they are currently. The advisor I spoke with, Leopold Hauser, made a great effort to tell me about how he was sick with covid and it just wasn't that bad blah blah blah blah. Basically giving me a huge middle finger in the face of what is now the sickest I've been in years. The fact that this man is advising people when he contains such little empathy is beyond me. So based on the recent reviews, I'm not the only one who has issues with the advisors. The lady I spoke to on the phone was rude. It didn't seem like she wanted to work or answer my questions. She told me it takes 4-8 weeks to get credit for my degree since I'm only doing a certificate while the course starts next week. So what is the point ?! This company canceled a BLS class due to lack of instructors but HAS NOT REFUNDED MY MONEY. They do not answer their phones ever. They do not call back when you leave a voicemail. And they do not reply to emails. I now have to submit the $89.50 charge to my bank as fraud because they won't respond to me or refund the money for a class THEY canceled even though the cancellation policy says I'm owed a full refund. DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING THROUGH THIS COMPANY. DAVE IS A THIEF AND SCAM ARTIST. I was told they haven't answered my phone calls because they changed their number and then they also changed their email mid issue and said that's why they haven't gotten my emails. However, reading back on reviews they also changed their number 2 weeks ago. What kind of legitimate company continually changes contact information like this? And the phone numbers are all connected to text-now internet accounts, not a legitimate real phone. What legitimate company changes their email and completely stops reading the other email immediately as if everyone they're currently communicating with would suddenly know to search for a new email address? None. The company's address is a residential address in Portland. This is a man working a scam out of his living room. It is not a real company. I have also reported this company to American Red Cross (who I booked through), BBB, and local authorities because it is clear based on their reviews this is a fraudulent company who does this over and over. I have called serveral times about getting a refund, I have not heard anything back yet. It makes me feel really uncomfortable that they're responses to this issue is that they are sorry for the experiance. If they are they need to do better…. I met with Heather Smith who cancelled our first meeting and that happen to pushed me out of the application deadline I will have to wait 6 months for the next round. She gave me the incorrect information on which room to meet her in and let me disrupt an entire class and instructor before pulling me out. She explained she knew she gave me wrong info. But never called and just let me go there anyway. After meeting with Heather for a short time she got up and advised me she would be right back. She returned with a advising business card and told me to get a job. Heather, with her middle finger, advised my family coach at DHS has no idea about PCC climb program and not to look there for resources. She didn't offer any information on adding credentials to become hirable or really any info on the program. I have never been left feeling so discouraged.Kari Culver

PCC Climb is the most unprofessional organization I have had the misfortune to encounter. Do not take a BLS or ACLS class at this institute. They pass people for any reason in the BLS program. Good luck getting into your ACLS class! When you arrive at climb there will be requirements that you were not told about during the registration process. I even called the night before to be sure. I was never told about the pretest. The check in clerk will insinuate that you are a liar and never called climb because you don't know the name of the person with whom you spoke. Thankfully there are other options for obtaining medical CME in this town. I will make sure everyone I come in contact with in medicine understands what this organization is like. The professors are not good at recording attendance, and I have to file grade appeals after each semester because they're also not good at keeping track of completed work and grades. The professors are usually very nice though, always willing to answer questions and be kind. Its uncommon to have an unkind professor here. They also lower your grades if you're not a lefty and the assignments have politics in them and you express views that lean right… that's Oregon though! I'm glad I'm a lefty. Keep in touch with your professors (especially near the end of the term!!) to make sure they give you all the grades you earned. They will gladly clarify these things with you. I don't understand the bad reviews for this place citing bad care or staff. Seems nothing more than bitter old staff. My Mom has been a resident of the Oddfellows Home for about 7 weeks. I see her 1-2 times/week. So, I see a lot. The building needs a little love. But it's purely aesthetic. It's actually a really cool building! Beautiful atrium in the middle with a library and plenty of nooks to enjoy a book and a big livingroom if you're feeling social. My favorite things: The staff. Seriously. From director to CNA, to cleaning folx…just stellar and sweet. They really CARE. Mom has cognitive issues and memory issues. They have been superb about accommodating her, communicating with us, and just everything was so easy with them. My wife and I have been looking at assisted living facilities for 3 years because my parents needed help finding a new place, then not. It was a mess. Anyway, I saw plenty of beautiful fancy places. But ultimately the director had ONE INTEREST. $$$$ My parents lived in a fancy for-profit franchise for 6 years and did not get the care they needed. The staff was not good at other places. Rude, always seemed to have better things to do and never communicated with me. I'm my mom's only child, now. My father passed away last year and my brother 20 years ago. So, it's very important that I find a place that has my Mom's best interests at heart. With her cognative issues she could be abused or neglected easily. She lived with me for 2 years until her care became more than we could handle. We looked at many small care homes, large ones, you name it. Mom is on Medicaid. Like most middle class working Americans her medical expenses ate up whatever savings she had. Finding a decent home for her was very difficult. Oddfellows didn't make us feel like a charity case or that we were lucky they'd take her. She's not quite ready for a nursing home, but needs help with meals and remembering things and she can't handle money or bills. From the meeting to see if she could join the community to this day the staff have been very active in her care, very responsive to repair requests, and even made her bathroom accessible. They continue to make us an active part of her care plan and I feel she is in good hands. The activities director, Rhonda, is always updating us and keeps an eye out for my mom as we told her she's very shy and has depression. Some things I've checked in with my Mom: the food is pretty good and they have coffee, mocha, cookies and icecream available 24/7. There's no long wait to eat as there's assigned seating. She really likes her apartment and the staff. And she was a nurse for 45 years. She used to work in nursing homes as a director. She's picky. She basically seems to love it. That's important. The grounds are lovely and well-maintained. The facility is directly across from a park, near Trimet, and really cool. Her apartment is absolutely perfect. She has a balcony overlooking the park and a kitchen, but thankfully no stove. It's quiet and the walls are thick, so you're not hearing the TV of the deaf older person next to you. I haven't seen any evidence of bugs or mess anywhere. The housekeeping staff seem to be doing great job keeping things clean. And the staff just care. It's so nice. This place has so many extras compared to the fancier places. I can't list them, here. But to me, it is the staff and facility that make it great. The building isn't some amazingly new impersonal luxury hotel looking place. It's small and open, yet warm and homey. I feel very glad about our decision to choose Oddfellows. This neurotic son is glad his Mom is in good hands. Mom seems to like it, too! And really, that's what matters. She is cared for physically, spiritually, and mentally. One of the most unsanitary kitchens I've worked in. As far as the nursing goes it's great but Dietary department is disgusting. They don't wash any produce, they cook meat, refrigerate it, cook it again refrigerate it again and cook it again to serve. The manager hires nobody but his own friends who just goof off and use profanity all day long. The manager Andrew calls everyone names and is super rude and UNPROFESSIONAL in every way. NOT SOMEWHERE I WOULD EVER CONSIDER PUTTING A FAMILY MEMBER. I was very sanitary and always on heads about the way things are prepped every response would be "I don't care, the residents wont know". A few of them including the manager himself come in hungover. Very dysfunctional workplace and the head chef will say so himself. The residents are such loving people and deserve better care.c p

I completed my CNA 2 at Holgate Center with Linda and Ginna. I learned a lot of skills in a short amount of time and I now currently work at OHSU. I am thankful for their support and their teaching abilities. They were able to get me out of my comfort zone to show me how to be more assertive as a CNA. I recommend their CNA training program and their training led me to opportunities at one of the best hospitals in Oregon. They set you up for success and if you're looking for an entry level position in the medical field, this is an opportunity to take.Nicole Schmitt

I started this program during the summer of 2019 and had to stop mid-way through the clinical portion due to a death in the family. The owner and instructor, Lyn Chase, allowed me to stop and join the next class and finish the program at no additional charge. The class was provided with everything needed to succeed on the State Board Test! Did I need to study – YES! Did I need to pay attention and read the book provided – YES! And after completing the course I was able to pass both the written and skill sections on the first try. Clackamas Nursing Assistant Training was less expensive and the hours and days fit my schedule better then other local programs. I believe the program has some very special perks most of all being Lyn the instructor and owner. She creates a beautiful non institutional setting, provides the best coffee and snacks and openly and willingly shares her knowledge attained from years working in the nursing profession. Lyn has a special way of incorporating her nursing experiences, through stories, that allows for a deeper understanding of the subject matter. And the icing on the cake being that this classroom is nestled within a forest of evergreen trees, trickling streams and Oregon's amazing wildlife. We were treated to daily visits from local deer, squirrels and birds of many songs!Teresa Ramirez

I took Lyn's class in the summertime and my grandmother took it with me. Me and my grandma absolutely adore Lyn. She is probably the kindest woman you will ever meet, not only that but she is an AMAZING teacher. The kindness and empathy she has inspires me to be like her. She makes me strive to want to make the healthcare industry a better place. Not only did she teach us all you need to know to be a CNA but she provided all the right materials and prepared us well. Lyn holds SO much great experience and knowledge and you can't just get that anywhere. Lyn overall is just a great teacher and her passion for it shows. Lyn is a really good teacher. She makes the class fun and keeps it interesting with all of her wonderful stories from experience. Not only is the class comfortable and homie, but she provided our class with snacks to keep our brains going coffee and whatever else you would need to begin the day. Most the teachers are wonderful. The QRC is nice. The food is pretty okay. I like the class selection. Dealing with the financial side of things is a nightmare. One time my financial aid was delayed due to circumstances on their end that were out of my control. They said I was fine and my registration wouldn't be cancelled. Well, I wasn't fine and my registration was cancelled. And I got kicked out automatically of two classes I really wanted to take, and they were full so I couldn't reregister. They apologized but didn't get me back in my classes. In the future I was sure to email my teachers and ask them to let me back in if I got automatically deleted due to financial aid delays. Also now that I've graduated, they told me it would take 9-10 weeks for my diploma to arrive and it's been 5 months, and they are still telling me to expect delays. Yes I've contacted them about it, multiple times. I have literally no idea when it will arrive, but I'm not keeping my hopes up anymore. I'm disappointed, yes, but at least my credits were transferred, and hopefully the place I'm attending now won't be so weird about it.Lea Biste

Due to the pandemic, I take most of my PCC classes online. I am fully vaccinated and decided to take 1 in person class here. I take Chorus at this campus. The theater here is awesome. I have never attended a community college that has such an amazing arts program with so many awesome programs. My teacher is really inspiring and talented and encourages us to be our best selves and to care for each other. I’m really excited and happy that PCC has this option for classes.Colt Seidman

I give one star because of two professors. One is Sociology teacher Colin Gilmore and the other math teacher Terry Tanada. Both of the set you up for failures don’t help to understand assignments. Also they are racistz I somehow passed their classes and I am very close to find more information about Colin Gilmore. I wanna confront him in public and show him a ghost. Took my CNA training here a year ago. I passed my skills test on the first time around and have had no problems holding down a job with the training I received here. 10/10 Would recommend.Cole Rice
