12 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Reno, NV (2022 Updated)

(For reference, I am a first-generation college student, have a learning disability, and a physical disability.) TMCC sets students up for success. I have had a very positive experience both as a student and working for the school. I will be finishing a dual-degree sooner than expected. Most of the professors are great, and everyone in the humanities department is amazing. Most of the staff is very professional and able to well-inform students of what classes to take and what services may benefit them. On top of this, the school also offers free tutoring and mental health services. As a first-generation college student, I feel TMCC has helped me at every step of the way to succeed. With only 8 classes left to take, I still have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 despite doing relatively poorly in high school. As long as you put in your best effort, teachers will do everything possible to help you succeed. If you do not put any effort in and expect a handout, then it will be extremely difficult to succeed. If you attend this school make sure to take advantage of any and all resources as well as putting in your own effort… you will not regret it. I recommend TMCC to anyone and everyone.Rove Plant Eater

This is a tremendous school with a caring and compassionate staff and faculty. This school has afforded me so many opportunities that I wouldn't have otherwise received without them. When I got to Reno, I was homeless. I arrived with two suitcases and less than $100 in the bank. I was staying with a friend and making very little money. I found myself in a situation where I worked hard labor job after hard labor job, trapped in a vicious cycle of injury and poverty and no clear view of how to exit my situation. In the month of December 2014, I walked into the offices at TMCC. In less than a year, I have found employment, I'm less than a year from finishing my degree and I am a Dean's list student. I had it in my head that I wanted to succeed and I was fortunate that this school wanted to help me to do exactly that. The teachers were compassionate and patient. The staff was courteous and helpful. I owe a great deal to this school because it has taught me more than academics. It taught me to be a better person.Brandon Canty

Don't listen to the bad reviews, everybody has a different experience and different perceptions. Ive taken at least 20+ classes over 12 years, I love tmcc. It's a good community college in every way. I attended here on and off from 1999-2012. I learned how to teach step aerobics from the greatest fitness instructor imo Verna Lewis. I took many general ed classes as well as a few paralegal courses and a ton of fitness classes as well. The campus is beautiful, many bathrooms with free sanitary napkins if needed, the vending machines are reasonably priced. The classes are very fair priced. It's a wonderful school and a WAY better option then a vocational school. eg: Realtor school online vocational school $600+, Tmcc Realtor program $50-100.Rachela Reno Rocks

Transferring to Sierra Nevada College was the best decision I've ever made. The location is one-of-a kind and the education is top-notch. SNC professors are brilliant and all have professional experience in their field of choice. Getting internships and job opportunities is extremely easy, especially by networking through the connections the school already has. Scholarships make this school very affordable. I applied for a job here a few years ago. Turns out it had already been filled but was still contacted and I was praised for my resume. I have visited the campus a few times, it's beautiful. If you're a prospective student looking to have a experience in a unique and beautiful area I would highly recommend this university. The food is so terrible and the school does nothing about it. The entire student body has complained multiple times and still the administration hasn’t taken action. At least it’s close to the lake. Might have to start fishing for my food.greatwhale

I've received psych services in Calif for 20+ years. I moved to Nevada in June, 2021. In July I spoke to crisis employee, due to severe depression & being g suicidal. Nov 3, 2021 I received an evaluation @ Quest. During my appointment I suffered a panic attack w/severe Depersonalization, Derealization disorder symptoms. 911 was called to assist me. Nov 8 & 9, 2021 I had additional panic attacks w/my body shutting down again. Nov 10 I received an email stating my report was completed, but Quest would not offer me psych services. I am currently depressed & suicidal, but have no psych services to help me. This organization is terrible. They are a tax exempt charity that doesn't honor their mission statement.sonya gingras

Like many of the reviewers here, I have had challenging experiences with insurance. I have excellent insurance and have never encountered billing issues like this in the past. I did have someone reach out to me from the billing department and it was greatly appreciated. He really tried to help with the issue, and I appreciate his kindness. But I had to suspend my therapy because I didn't not know if the billing issues would continue. Perhaps the greatest disappointment and my poor rating is that the therapist that I was seeing did not contact me once during this challenging situation. It was like I had never been to see her. It made me think that unless the charges are paid, whether there are errors or not, you are not valued as a client here.Smith Family

I really love this practice. First and foremost, they’ve done a fantastic job of creating a sort of “zen” from walking into the waiting room, to the room you actually sit with your therapist in. The front desk is never anything short of fantastic. They’re friendly and efficient (especially Maria, I believe is her name). And my therapist, Raquel, is amazing. She’s helped me so so much through EMDR, her sparkling personality and coping tools that feel realistic instead of silly and unattainable. I've been going here for two years and have had such a great experience. The ladies who work at the front are always so friendly and helpful. The waiting area is peaceful and I've never had any billing or insurance issues. My therapist has been Cindy Engel and she has helped me tremendously. I've seen a few therapists before but I am so happy I found her. She truly cares about her patients and is always there for them, especially in moments of crisis. The first doctor I saw at Renown Behavioral Health was great. She listened and gave me actionable advice, demonstrating her mastery of CBT. That doctor left the practice about a year ago and my experience has been pretty lacking since then. I got in with another doctor and was unimpressed with his methods. A lot of his “therapy” consisted of some form of “you should just stop worrying about that.” Anyone with an anxiety disorder like myself knows this kind of therapy is totally useless, not to mention antiquated. I’ve been trying to switch providers for some time now, but I don’t want to just go to the next available therapist; I want to be sure that my therapist has expertise relevant to my mental health needs. For some reason, Renown Behavioral Health requires patients to consult with the office manager in order switch to a provider with relevant expertise. I’ve been trying to get in contact with the office manager for 3 months now. She has returned my call only once, and even then said she needed research which providers would be suitable for me and then call me back. Well, I still haven’t heard from her almost a month later. I hope my testimonial is helpful to some of you out there. It’s extremely difficult to battle mental illness on one front and have to fight for competent mental health care on the other. It’s hard to find good therapy in Reno, and at Renown Behavioral Health, they’re no better than average.Jacob Anderson

I Totally agree with the other one star review: extremely Unprofessional, Disrespectful, Rude, and Belittling!!! I’m 68 years old and have Never been treated like this in any professional service. Definitely don’t take anyone you care about. I’m speaking about just the staff on the second floor, because unfortunately the Dr Mary H Patrick couldn’t be found I was told on the phone. Because no one would come to help me had to call the office from the room outside of the waiting room because the door was locked to the waiting room. My appointment was at 2:30 was told this at 2:45 waited till 3 told my husband let’s go I’m done. And just as we’re reaching the freeway the medical assistant calls and informs me the Dr agreed to see me at 3:30 on a message because I didn’t answer my phone. I told my husband to just keep driving because I will never be returning. I hope I spared at least one person from being treated like this. JaniceJanice Perez

I had a loved one come here, & was told by the psychiatrist that his issue for which he needed his medication for; basically wasn’t valid & said he didn’t need help. The psychiatrist also assumed that he was going to abuse the script. This is unacceptable, If someone has a mental disorder they NEED their meds. If someone is on meds, and needs them to help live a functional life, and then they get them completely stripped away, a person can have adverse reactions and end up suicidal and dead. Simply because they didn’t have the meds they needed.Bailie Rodgers

I have gone 3 years now to see the Manhattan Shorts it had been a couple of years since we attended. No parking available on campus. Walked a mile. 20 minutes late. Missed 4 shorts. One short was fantastic. The next three, one the sound was so low I couldn't hear it. The next 2 were subtitles that only one of us could read. So we got up and left. I will be watching it online from now on. The audience only had about 30 people.Bonnie Star

HYPNOTHERAPY: Quite a few years ago, (2005) when I was about to start working again as a secretary, (after a year off due to unbearable pain) I knew I'd need some help regarding pain mgmt due to severely degenerated discs in my cervical & thoracic spine. Having exhausted physical therapy by the best in Los Angeles (the Lakers' therapists), I called UNR"s Psychology Dept for a recommendation. Dr. Danton helped me be pain free for the first entire month of my new job. He records your sessions so you may re-use this to help yourself. I was both amazed and yet not really surprised. This Dr. has worked with the severest cases of military injuries past any other pain mgmt — successfully. He is great! He also combines some psycho-therapy to totally understand a patient"s entire profile. I recommend him 5 stars! I'll personally be back again as my osteoarthritis has, through aging, of course, gotten worse. For me, my insurance does NOT cover this but Dr. Danton is worth every penny!Frannie Aperones
