Some of the architects details and why the buildings are the way they are. They've got learning workshops and grant money for struggling students, either academically, financially, or both. When I went to University I never had something like this. Idk if it existed, and if it did, the University never advertised it for students. Also! This school has an amazing program for those who want to work with animals. The ZAS program (Zoo and Aquarium Science) is a 2 yr applied associates program and its goal is to get you straight into your career. They have terrestrial animals and an aquarium on site! I went for the IT area. Big mistake. They could not keep knowledgeable instuctors. Was told most would be online when enrolling and after enrollment only two classes was online. They kept putting me in classes that were to advanced like one or two classes should have been done before taking. I have a issue with walking due to a previous injury had asked for assistance to the buildings and never received. I ended up leaving due to the rude and not trained instructors and it being to much to make it up the hill to classes daily. This was in 2015, 2016.Marinda Carter

The school maybe nice, I never had the opportunity to explore, however; their paramedic program is a joke. The staff runs each class on different criteria, for instance my instructor (Wesley Carter) stated we don't do pulse checks in CPR after the first check indicating an arrest. However; as a BLS CPR instructor that is false and the AHA teaches pulse check. However; he was my instructor so in order to test out I did as he wanted and when a different instructor tested me they failed me for using the broslow tape and for not checking pulses, said I should have done it by weight based and the broslow tape is a guideline. Since then I have spoken to several national certified paramedics, nurses, and physicians that state this school is a joke and shouldn't be teaching students period and that the broslow tape is there for a reason to assist in dosing a pediatric patient when weight is not obtained. The instructors can't get on the same page and give out different requirements and if you do what one says it's wrong to every other instructor. Also they give you test out scenarios at the end every instructor does 2 which is you standard, set by North Carolina and my instructor is the only one that does 3 scenarios. No uniformity and poor quality instructors. Horrible experience that I will never get my time, my money, and my family gatherings, birth of my child, and events because these people are not on the same page.Kevin Meiser

Get me outt. If I could drop out i would. This college is awful I learn more from quizlet then I have with any teachers. The teachers here are all lazy and only care about their paycheck. I asked for help and never got a response from one teacher and I still haven't :P. What I would give to be able to drop out from this college. 2 stars for providing a college beyond high school in Kinston. One star for pay compared to other community colleges that pay adjunct instructors $35+ per hour. How has LCC contributed to Lenoir County in skills and talent? On Pitt college's website it states that its students have contributed over $114 million dollars to the local community. I walked around the college grounds and it is boring, no energy or excitement. Lastly, LCC should market more to Black students and the Black community because although Kinston is almost 70% Black; it's not reflected in its student body. Heavenly Craven Community College the nicest thing that ever happen to me. CCC is of the utmost practical pleasant learning environment not to be missed. 1 Million per cent better than university. Parents send their children off with high expectations to big universities where students are swallowed up and they can easily disappear. Some universities have a 90% attrition rate of Freshmen drop out and failure. The dorm experience at university can be a series of nightmare rituals and students find themselves feeling hopeless lost and in horrendous debt. The smart start is to attend Craven Community College. Take all the classes you want to take. Keep coming back until graduation and then attend the university classes for a bachelors degree on the Craven Community College Campus. Stay local. Live good. Study in an aesthetic garden like environment where you can breath easily relax walk between classes. So distraught by this college. I signed up 2 months ago for a Motorcycle Safety Course. They gave me an email 3 days before the day of the class to take a 3 hour course that needs to be done before the class or 'no refund'. That was the 1st strike; people have kids and work full time. A bit long than 3 days would have been great. Then the day BEFORE the class at 5:15pm I get a phone call telling me they cancelled the class and I can't reschedule for 2+ months. I was told over the phone to come down on Monday to get my refund as I paid with cash. I get to the Workforce Development office to be treated like a crazy person by all the people working then I'm told I have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to be mailed like I'm supposed to just know this already. I would not recommend this college to anyone even as a last resort. Very unprofessional and very unfriendly.Dj Coleman

This college is an absolute joke. First, if you need to talk with someone good luck. They will never return a phone call ever. If you go to their campus they seem too busy to help. Emails are a hit or miss and will take a couple days for a response. Next, if you going for a degree here, make sure they offer all the classes here. They didn't for criminal justice and I had to Pitt CC to finish my degree. Also, their office hours is more of a suggested time for them. On base campus never seems to be open. Went their today at 2:00 (they close at 2:30), and of course no one was there. Take it from someone who has been going here for 2 1/2 years, go somewhere else. The grounds at CFCC are beautiful, the students are fantastic, and the culture is what makes it truly special. I don’t even know where to begin with this place. First of all if you are considering going here you need to run in the opposite direction. I moved here from out of state and gave this institution 10,000 of my dollars just to be disrespected and ridiculed by the faculty and staff. My high school teachers were more competent and respectful than anyone here. The school is run down and smells like mildew other than the main building they use to advertise this place. I did not learn one single thing the entire time I was here and let it be known that I am now graduating to be a medical professional so I was not the problem. Be careful if using MYCAA to pay for classes, regardless of whether or not you submit on your end on time. If the school doesn't submit it on time on their end (as in my case) you'll receive a dozen and a half reminders that tuition is due (the school doesn't handle MYCAA and the funds get sent to the student to then pass on to the school and if it's not paid by "x" date at "x" time classes are dropped. Had I of known this, I would have applied for schooling elsewhere. Waste of time. Not everyone wants or needs to use FAFSA………Courtney Myszewski

Ordering books from the bookstore is a terrible experience. First, the books were listed as on back-order (which wasn't accurate, they just don't update it), but they charged TWENTY DOLLARS for GROUND shipping. If that's not gouging, I don't know what is. To add insult to injury, they require signature on the package, so I've now missed the package two days in a row because UPS won't leave it at my door. My experience at Stanly was awesome! I was in the Criminal Justice Program. All the instructors and advisors were excellent at directing me to what step was next. The instructors were very responsive to questions and helped me through the classes step by step. I graduated with a 4.0 GPA because of this. I left a BSN program to attend CCHS and it was the best decision I ever made for my nursing career! Compared to the university I previously attended, CCHS classes are small and intimate, we had easy access to our teachers and advisors and we had a TON of hands-on clinical experience. I felt very prepared for the NCLEX as well as my first nursing job after I graduated. I then was able to work as an RN while taking classes online for my BSN after I graduated. I've attended CCHS for almost 2 years now. I like how the staff has worked diligently with student during COVID-19. While everyone is still going through difficult times, they have been able to adapt to regulations and restrictions of healthcare that have been placed during the pandemic. Annoying town to live in. Southern hospitality doesnt exist in Boone. Its full of stuck up hippies. Counting down the days till I transfer to Colorado. If you're transferring here, good luck. My girlfriend has been petitioning classes that they haven't counted since she first got here. They're screwing her out of 27 credit hours that she finished at her old school. Math department is atrocious. I'm in college algebra now and the teacher lost my first test because she took priority in grading a 2 page paper on success before she graded the test. Also, if you're coming here to watch football, the atmosphere sucks. More than half of the crowd is out of the stadium before halftime. Hardly anyone actually cares about the team, they just use it as an excuse to tailgate and get trashed in a public parking lot.Chris King

Was a very good experience. Best was the faculty, who are from all over the country and internationally as well. I attended another college for a second degree after ASU and had a bad experience which really highlighted how superior ASU's instruction and advice really was. They do not waste your time. If there was a downside, it was probably the fact that many of the students are from western North Carolina, so some of the perspectives were a bit of a culture shock for me. They have several excellent programs, particularly business, music, education, art, as well as some unusual programs like communications disorders.JW41926

Attending this school has been the worst experience that I have EVER had! From advisor who do not know what they are doing to transcript office personal that have very bad attitudes and are extremely rude. They also "conveniently" forget to post important dates that student need to know. After finally graduating from this school a year late, I will NEVER encourage anyone to attend this school. The instructors in HVAC-R are knowledgeable and relatable, however I am disappointed that there are no night classes the second year making it difficult for those who have other responsibilities to work full time and go to school. Also I feel the curriculum schedule makes it to where you teach yourself and the instructors go over what you read instead of the regular cover it in class then do homework. Pfeiffer sell itself on being small, close, and caring. It is small but the close and caring not so much. Faculty and academic advisers fall short in many categories. In the age of ed tech many professors do not post grades or have any method of giving feedback tot he student where their grades stand until the mid term and final grade?!? The academic advisers do not help or advocate for the students in any way shape or form they are there only to sign you up for your classes. don't expect to get any help or guidance on finances as the business and finance department leave it all up to you and you are stuck doing ALL of the leg work. I noticed certain sports at Pfeiffer are treated like gods, and others are almost ignored. This I am sure is due to the fact that the Athletic Director is the head coach for a specific sport. The freshman dorms SUCK! Finally, be ready to be nickeled and dimed to death!! For a school that charges $40,000 per year you would think that includes all of your fees…think again! E learning fee, orientation fees, and dorm "damage" fees (for someone leaving the door open (everyone gets charged $5 each time it happens…even though the doors were broken most of the time and the college maintenance crew would also leave them open! Once past all of that nonsense the campus is quite beautiful and secluded. There is very little to do other than study and attend on campus activities. Out of the 4 community colleges I have taken courses at, ABTech has been the worst by far. I have had the worst experience with advising/registration trying to get scheduled for the classes I want. Everyone I speak to just turns me in circles and no one seems to understand what to do in order to help me go where I need to go. They only give you 48 hours once classes start to switch them around if need be, but you need an advisor to approve before you can register for anything different, but you can’t get in to meet with an advisor till days after the deadline. I feel so defeated. I worked so hard to get the courage to return to school, just to not be able to take any courses this semester. Wasting my time and my financial aide. The staff here are for the most part very friendly and easy to be around. The administration however, is terribly unorganized. It's not uncommon to get information from their website or info center, but be told the complete opposite by a faculty member or chair person. I was following a recommended schedule for the program I'm in, when it was changed completely without any notice. Half the classes I was told to take this Fall are no longer offered, and it will now take me twice as long to complete my program. Long story short- don't attend AB tech if you're pursuing a degree or diploma. I'd only recommend this place to continuing education students.Andy Albert

LOVE this school! I am graduating this May from the Radiography program and will graduate next May with an AS in Biochemistry. AB Tech has made the process smooth and efficient for me, just as I worked hard to make sure I turned everything needed for processing my information early to them to ensure success. The teachers are fantastic and truly care about their students. I am so grateful for the writing, math and science study labs as well because the staff there gave me the extra help I needed whenever a concept was tough. I came here on a full tuition scholarship and spent most of my time on academic probation. Why? Because when I went to the enrollment adviser and told her that I was probably going to fail computer science, she told me that if I dropped the class that I would not be full time and not eligible for my scholarship. After I failed the class, she told me that I could have made up the credits over the summer. This tanked my GPA, but maybe she felt bad about the bad advice, which is why I probably kept my scholarship even though I was under the GPA. This school is basically a good place to go if you know what you want to do and just need a degree to do it. All in all, this is a decent school, but you have to be focused and advocate for yourself as advisement is sub par. If so, you will be fine. The clubs and activities are great. Food sucks! It's not the worst school, but they just don't have anything that really justifies their tuition price. They're not significantly cheaper than other schools in the area and it's not a big name to people. The nursing program is supposed to be one of their best programs available but no one even talks about or recommends it. I work in healthcare in Wayne maybe 5 minutes from the campus and I feel it's pretty telling that every doctor I work with would sooner recommend Rutgers, Seton Hall or Montclair State. I never had much issue with any professors but the school's counseling and academic advisement teams are a joke. Overall, I don't think it would be a bad place to get a degree but probably wouldn't come back. Other schools nearby seem to have more to offer, a higher standard of quality, and most importantly they come with a name people want to hire from.Justin G

I would not suggest this college for people who are full time working adults. Very limited class times offered, hardly any night classes and 90% of classes are not offered online…even general education courses! They are also very unwilling to work with you if you cannot make a class during any of the times they offer. Most schools will allow you to take the class at another credited college and transfer the credits…WPU does not, not even for general education classes like math! I asked about taking three different classes at another school because of their limited class times and I got the same exact answer EVERY time…it must be taken at WPU. Why does a basic level math course have to be taken at WPU when you accepted my math class transfers from another school when I initially transferred in?!Jessica Henry

For a school that promotes women's strength and diversity, I am appalled to see that racism for the current students is still rampant. For those women to feel afraid and not be able to come forward and speak against it, is abhorrent. Do better. How can you allow for advisor's and students alike to treat others like that? Do better, it's 2022. Also, as I toured, I went with a family member. It was assumed I was a single mother and between the families who toured my "daughter" and I were skipped over for some questions while the larger families with relatives were asked more. I find this to be extremely telling along with the racism that this would not be a school I'd want my daughter or anyone's daughter to attend until they can work on their biases. It's also a little alarming they don't talk about what grants or how much anything is until you've been "admitted." And even more so when you find reviews elsewhere that state that they mess with tuition, or charge more without letting people know. For a school that charges so much, the environment seemed lacking. Also the tour guide mentioned something about being able to help children with autism, in a way that makes me feel like it's meant for others to feel good and not benefit the children. The approach in which it was talked about could have been more tasteful. Also how can you give a tour and not know anything about any of the degrees offered there? Little disappointing. In short: send your daughters elsewhere. This school has many improvements to make.E C

I have an Odd and an Even daughter and we were absolutely thrilled with Meredith! I always felt my daughters were safe there and never felt uneasy about leaving them there. Everyone from the President to the Maintenance staff to all of the Professors made us feel they genuinely wanted our daughters as students and not just our checkbook. Both of my girls really enjoyed their time there and I would recommend it to any prospective student to at least visit, It isn't for everyone but both of my girls were very pleased with the education they received.Brian Smith

Grad from several years back. Extremely few adequate professors/ administrators, majority incorporate liberal indoctrination into curriculum. Way too expensive , and college caters mostly to those who live on campus. The job I am currently employed at pays more than the jobs my degree is for. Be smart and do the research to look for a much less expensive college , and consult multiple sources before getting a degree that allows you limited career opportunities. Lovely campus, with almost 9000 acres! Huge trees and grand lawns frame Gothic architecture which themselves house state-of-the-art labs and lecture halls. When I first started signing up for my MBA I advised them that I had just graduated with my bachelors degree. My goal was to start August 5, and I submitted all my necessary paperwork and cooperated as such. When it got to my transcripts I was advised I could not start because the conferral date was not on the transcripts. The enrollment specialist told me to reach out to my previous school. I did and it was a hassle. I called the enrollment specialist at Capella to advise of the updates to only find out that Capella’s registrar team had already been in contact with my school. I wanted to start on the 5th as it was very discouraging to go through the process to be turned away at last minute. 1). Total waist of time as I took time out of my day to complete orientation and do what they advised of me. 2) I asked to speak with a supervisor who was very vague and could not provide the information needed. 3) I again called Capella to try and escalate the situation, but the manager never returned my call. I feel as if they had me sign up because they were the ones to get paid for each student to enroll and failed to educate me properly in the beginning, which is very misleading and discouraging. Since no one wanted to comply and take responsibility I will be escalating this to the BBB as this is not my fault and I should had been able to start in the promised time given and should have been educated properly.Tearra McCray

The worst university ever! They made me waste my time and my money from the first day, every time I communicated with them each counselor told me something different, and more than a month passed and I did not have an accurate answer on the status of my application, after a month a person from human resources let me know that I had to do my transcripts equivalency again on another website because the one I had already sent twice to them waiting for they review it (and that they themselves told me it was okay to do it that way) was not valid for them to take me into account to start the course this past October. 1- First time the transcripts were not encrypted, so they asked my to ask the institution they send it again but encrypted this time and I did it and sent it again. And after that they let me know that didn’t work for them. So I wasted my time, my money and above all the opportunity to start on the desired date. A very bad job of the staff. Very bad communication with the students who want to start there, and they also contradict each other. They all say different things and waste your time. They are also very rude. I hope that no one has this bad experience, nor misses the opportunity to start the course on the date they planned, and due to the horrible work of other people you lose opportunities in life.Claudia Espinosa

From the beginning of my Master's level school search, Capella stood out. I had a great recommendation from a friend already, but in researching complete online programs to work with my schedule, Capella checked all of the boxes I needed. I had a wonderful experience with my admissions counselor and continue to have great interactions with all communication. I am happy with all faculty thus far and feel that I am learning exactly what I need for my future as a school counselor. The course load is what I expected it to be and the time I spend on classwork is time well spent. I feel very confident that I will be prepared to enter the field of school counseling when I graduate. The very first thing Capella does once you are enrolled is to start you in a class to help navigate your program and get you familiar with the online format. This helped immensely and calmed my nerves for entering into a graduate program online. I feel very well cared for and have not had a negative experience yet! Worst school ever! Do not send your child here unless it's the last thing you have left to do. I attended here for one year and said NEVER AGAIN! For one the admissions process is horrific with fees for EVERYTHING! Secondly the financial aid ladies are rude and incompetent. Thirdly the dorms are old as hell and students deserve better! I wouldn't let my worst enemy stay there. The dorms always have problems with air conditioning and the wifi is a joke. Fourth the maintenance people who come to your dorm to clean DONT CLEAN!!!! They spray some stuff and lift the toilet seat up and walk out. And you saw that I didn't type wipe anything down so it stays dirty! Fifth the cafeteria people have attitudes and act like they can't do anything when they work for the students NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!! There's one guy named johnny that works there who is a manager and he locked me inside of a gate in the grill and nothing was done about it. He was rude and disrespectful then denied it because he's not man enough to admit when he's wrong. Sixth! The police here are good for nothing because if something was to happen the head chief will laugh and say well what did you do to MANY OF THE WOMEN THAT HAVE BEEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HERE AND ONCE AGAIN NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE!!! I will never come back and honestly I'm glad! They are terrible and don't waste your time and money.The Black Millenial Woman

I'm a veteran using my GI Bill, (only relevant for the perspective of fellow vets) anyway, the professors are amazing, they really want their students to succeed and will make themselves available to you, they are very understanding, and the way they teach is easy for their students to grasp information. Keep in mind, this is for serious students who show up everyday and act like they in turn want to learn. I've had a great experience my first semester here as far as my courses are concerned. The cafeteria food is good too. Onto the cons: the traffic enforcement ("police") suck. I took a class at the time of day when the parking lots are for the most part vacant, and I received a ticket for parking in the staff section EVEN THOUGH it was an accident (I didn't see the sign) but also that I was literally just ONE parking spot over from the commuting students. Sheesh. Also, the staff do put holds on your account for a lot of little things, I don't get a rude vibe from the staff but they aren't very helpful at resolving your problems, at the very least slow to solve them.Claudia Davis

At Fayetteville State University, I received three degrees including two graduate degrees. I have several mentors and received a valuable education. However, the support staff leaves something to greatly be desired. I have been hung up on several times, no answers to the phones, no replies to e-mails. Then, they blame me for not continuously calling back to get a hold of someone. The customer service level is horrendous and they really do not care about the students or their needs. They are incredibly disrespectful and sadly makes me feel unappreciated as a student. I wish the students and faculty the best of luck as they try to overcome the lack of service and poor support from their "support" staff. Their condescending and lack of compassion are heard loud and clear every time you call or e-mail. If you want a quality education and great faculty, you will find it here, but I pray you never have to work with the support staff especially in the Bursar's Office.Samantha Lauer
