20 Best Summer Programs In Boston, MA (2022 Updated)

We are so lucky to have NEC here in Mass. I've seen many great concerts at the beautiful Jordan Hall, and am in the School of Continuing Education for Jazz. The professors are knowledgeable and approachable. I didn't have the chance or the means to attend a music school after highschool, and the SCE program is a great way to get a formalized education while you are working. The school also offers The Bridge which is an online publication that advertises gigs and music jobs. It's young and has some growing to do, but it is a very cool tool. I believe the SCE program is relatively new as it's not that organized yet; everything happens last minute and can change at any second. Also, I'll confirm that practice rooms are very hard to come by, and often there will be a line of students lingering in the halls in order to fight over a room. For the price, you'd expect there to be more space. That being said the younger students will trash the practice rooms and use them as hang-out spaces. Whenever I go into a room, there's usually writing on the walls, a broken drum set, and food/wrappers everywhere.Thomas Spears

Took in a program of student compositions as the first in-person concert since the start of covid. Themes were scarcity, anxiety, and terror. Artists were talented and convincing. The hall was full of character and sustain. It was a particular joy seeing the subtle nods, cues, glances, and inhales exchanged between chamber musicians.Aaron Hudlemeyer

Performers are well trained, good sound qualities, nice and clean hall. You need to come early as you can to find parking. They have paid parking, but if you come early enough you can find street parking nearby Shawnut St or Tremont St. They need to update their bathroom.Farah Francois

I work here as staff and find the working environment pretty good. My bosses have been good, my coworkers are dependable, and the students seem well behaved and conscientious (most of the time). The new buildings are nice, and the harbor walk is kind of amazing, and the beach is very chill. Good luck finding a place as tranquil anywhere else near the city. There is however one small con and one big con.. the small con is that there aren't that many places to eat and Sodexo runs all the food on campus, and their attempts at ethnic foods are sad. And the aforementioned big con is that there is no less than 3 buildings being built on this tight peninsula right now, and one huge building that was taken down over the year I've been here.. the construction is a mess. Though the new, finished buildings, like the science complex, are great. But if you can take the T somehow, as I do, this place is fantastic.Mikhail M. Nitko

UMASS Boston has a Beautiful campus on the waterfront! It is building two Brand new buildings as student housing with a dinning hall on the first floor, overlooking the Boston harbor with a million dollar view. UMASS Boston has a collaborative research program with Dana Farber Cancer Institute that students can be a part of. I love the new Integrated science center, incubating many New exciting NIH sponsored science research studies. It is an exciting time for UMASS Boston which has a new chancellor with generous scholarship. Chancellor merit scholarship will allow students to get world class education for free.Khuong Nguyen

I am a student here at UMB, the professors are great. The administration is bureaucratic and inefficient and lacks transparency on any basic level. Parking here is dependent upon arrival time. If you get here at 10:20 good luck finding a space in bayside, probably will have to park at the globe. Clinical placement sites for Nursing are good, labs are good, the school is constantly under construction and areas are always being blocked off. Parking will soon cost between 9-15 dollars a day according to emails from the uni. So it’s alright but the university is slowly draining the life of its commuters.Bill Whitney

When a college sends someone to spam your email THREE times about joining seems to me then its not worth singing up for. Got emailed by someone from their staff three times harassing me to join when i had previously shown zero interest but apparently just because she saw my profile on a website. She emails me not once, not twice, but three times begging for a response. While apparently it "may" not be a horrible college i have zero interest in joining and no where near in the area either. So yeah One star here for spamming people 3 times. IF it turns out that person was not legit ill change this review but chances are it seems to be. Enjoy.Evenios

Went on a visit with my grandson with a preconceived perception of an intercity campus as I know them from intercity campuses in the NJ vicinity. I was pleasantly surprised by Wentworth with both the campus and it's facilities. Not some some armed containment area to keep students on campus, but rather free and open both in and around it. Note that Wentworth isn't some White enclave in the middle of crime, destuction, and filth, but rather a charming, not overwhelming campus, in a large city environment geared to provide a superior education to all who choose to attend. FYI, Boston has a population of some 250,000 college students so attention concerned parents, if little Madison or Josh can't get a date there's hope for them in Beantown!Fred Pucylowski

I was blown away by this school. I had low expectations being it is a very small school with a very high acceptance rate. I had never heard of the school and my daughter put it on her list as a "safety school." After attending the open house I hope it rises to one of her top choices. The campus is very quaint and comfortable. Felt very safe. It is surrounded by 5 other colleges. Very short walk to any class. It is an excellent school. I was accepted to Northeastern University, to the University of Massachusetts and many other good colleges. It boiled down to the school’s teaching setup. The school offered smaller class sizes and more one on one instruction. And then it was finalized by asking a few headhunters that if I had four identical resumes which school would stand out and it was Wentworth. Case closed.Jeremy Gold

I attended when the school was located in Back Bay. We (students and faculty) all made do with the limitations set by the Boston Historical Society in terms of what could be done to our physical plant. That's history. The new 'campus' on Boston Common is amazing. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my experience at Emerson changed my life personally and professionally in the most positive way possible. If you are a person who is self-directed, open-minded with a strong interest in communication sciences Emerson will likely be an excellent fit.Bruce Angeli

As an alum, I had a truly wonderful time studying at this school. I feel as though I got a true, real-life education. Most of the professors also worked in the industries they taught, and could give honest feedback about what it was like. A creative, open learning platform with talented students, helpful staff, and beautiful facilities, I would recommend this school to anyone looking to go into the arts, communications/PR, film, and writing, specifically. The food program makes students sick. They’re placing students in “on-campus hosting” that is half an hour away by train. There isn’t a lot of scholarship money, even to students working while enrolled. The student body diversity is a joke. And worst of all, they will pretend to listen to your complaints but won’t do anything about them, listening to you cry on the phone about how bad your circumstances are without empathy.Olivia Challenger

I went for the Five Week Summer Program! Let me tell ya now, it’s a college to remember. Amazing people and outstanding classes. You may never want to leave (I cried everytime I had to leave for the past three years lol). On a serious note, not once did I ever question my color there. Which is really important if you are a POC. They genuinely care for you and your well being. Which is one of the reasons for me crying haha. I have to be honest about this. Good college when it comes to campus design, some Professor's teaching skills, and assistance for school related issues. Although, the school teaches bad ethics. For example, sports lack discipline. They will teach there athletes to run score boards up. Up by 20 in a basketball game with 3mins to go, they will shoot more three point shots than Steve Kerr. The most alarming thing is faculty will participate in Hazing students. I've watch this with my own two eyes. Call them out on it, and they will just deny it, at least my professor did. I am currently a student there, who help form a club, in order to help students get there basic needs to become a successful student. So just remember, good campus design, some Professors have good teaching styles, good for resources, but terrible place to learn good ethics. To me learning good ethics and applying them is one of the most important, or the most important thing to learn as a student. Would not be the first school I would want to send my child to. I do recommend this college as an affordable and easy starting point but be ready to encounter many hurdles in your way and a lot of incompetent staff. Make sure to double check everything you do here, especially the financial aid part. The professors are nice but it’s on you to actually learn the material, the professors rarely will make sure you learned anything. It’s a 3 star college. Great diversity of people, BUT absolutely no political diversity, if you’re a radical leftist, you’ll love this college.Roberto R

I would have loved going there, but as a transfer student my options are limited. I honestly should have known that I would've been fighting an uphill battle the moment I tried to transfer into the Illustration. It's a popular major, and there's no room for someone like me. It’s unfortunate that I have to write this review but I am in hopes of MCPHS revising their admissions process for the Physician Assistant Program. I know that I was not the only student this year that was invited to interview and then closed out of an interview spot and placed on a waiting list. When I contacted MCPHS they told me that I may not get to interview after all as they had accidentally invited too many people to interview and did not have the resources to open up more interview dates even though acceptances are not on a rolling basis. How does a top tier medical university not have the resources to interview all the students they invited? By choosing to interview solely the people that happened to secure spots first, not only are they limiting the potential of their incoming class and proving that they only care about filling the spots for monetary reasons, but they are limiting the future of numerous successful students who worked hard to get an interview invitation. When I asked Jordan Hunt (admissions counselor) to make sense of this she was unable to provide a competent answer besides that the university messed up and the incoming students are the ones facing the repercussions. I’m not writing this for myself, but for the other students who were too timid to speak up or who had chosen this school as their top choice and then got screwed. I truly feel bad for some of the other incoming students who do not have other options and were relying on MCPHS. I am very disappointed. MCPHS either needs to change their interviewing process to rolling acceptances (interviewing the top tier students first and then going down the line) or they need to use this model but be willing to open up more dates in case of overflow. Side note: They informed me that students on the waiting list could be notified up to a day before an interview that a spot had opened up. Do they not take into consideration that everyone doesn’t live near Boston or works full-time? Extremely dissatisfied with this supposedly “top tier” medical college.Maddy Frank

Hey guys, good for all the students giving great remarks. I don't know if the school has paid you. I must say i was in the nursing program , ( the set that started 2005) the teachers were very bad. Everything was very difficult, out of 50 students that got into the nursing program only 15 students or even less that graduated from the program. Judy Murphy was very racist, no room for improvement. It was a very bad school. I will recommend another school any day any time as matter off fact the school needs to refund money back to students that paid for tuition. All they care about is your money and not the students. It was a very traumatic experience. It was one of the worst decision i have ever made in life to attend that college. I Owe up to 100,000 in debt with no nursing degree to show for. I thank the Almighty God i got my degree from another school with no stress or frustration. Guys open your eyes and look for another school. I just finished my second-year in PharmD program in MCPHS. I’m gonna transfer to Worcester to study the accelerated program. I have had great time in MCPHS so far. All professors are very nice and friendly. I haven’t met any professor who’s not willing to help student wholeheartedly. They always have office hours to answer students’ inquiries and to clarify the lecture in case the students don’t understand. There are absolutely no discrimination in MCPHS. It’s all about respect. Every MCP student is very welcoming so we have a very close-knit community in MCP. The program is well-designed and bearable. Sometime I feel overwhelmed but it’s not impossible to pass as many people say. You just need to put time and effort and you’ll be fine. In short, MCPHS is a great university for those who seriously pursuit a professional career in pharmacy and health sciences.Bill Nguyen

I attended the reunion this weekend as a husband. It was an overall pleasurable experience. The campus itself is very nice and meticulously maintained. Bathroom facilities adequate but nothing extraordinary. The BBQ on Saturday afternoon was nice because it was on campus in a very nice area. Music a bit loud for mid afternoon. Food, not great. I really liked the coozie they gave out. The class party Saturday night for the 10 year peeps was fascinating. It was inside a recreation center which seemed like an odd choice given the plethora of really nice areas on campus. The food selection there I thought was good but many in the group strongly disagreed with that sentiment. The tortellini was on point even tho it seemed to light a bit of a fire under my seat if you catch my drift. I was a little disappointed at all events that I had to pay 7$ for a bud light after already purchasing tickets. I will say we popped over to the 5 year reunion and wow, what a treat that event was. Overall it was a nice weekend, BC seemed to do my wife well as she is very smart. Her friends are also very cool. So I would recommend the college. We may send our kids there if my plan to hit the lottery multiple times comes to fruition. Mods for life.Joseph Moran

Also, during a yearlong study abroad at an English university, I was awarded Full Colours, for competing in rugby at the collegiate level. This was a huge honor! Further, I had an amazing opportunity to attend a tech conference in London where I was heavily involved with innovation working groups. Also, with both London and Paris as my home bases and launching pads to the rest of Europe, I got to go backpacking in England, Ireland, Wales, Italy, Germany, and Russia. Back in the U.S., I completed a six month Co-op for another multinational tech company in Oregon. Worst school I’ve ever attended! IT service has no phone number to reach out. School health insurance never reply your call. International student advisors hard to reach out. Wonderful museum! Many rooms with different information and activities that teach and entertain us! We spent 4 hours in the museum and couldn't go to all the rooms. We couldn't stop for lunch from so many activities in all the rooms! Of course the coolest rooms are for dinosaurs, pixel and engineering activities! But it is also possible to know a little about the first trip to the moon, about the first peoples and how they lived, about the animals, their habitat and type of food, there are several species of fish and other living marine animals, there is the pixel cartoons where you can learn about the process of computerized cartoons from Disney! (this room is wonderful! I love it!)! Finally, I recommend taking a day to walk around this museum. Really wonderful! There is paid parking under the museum, but if you arrive early you can find a parking meter in the nearby streets. Tickets can be purchased on site or through the website. Visited on

If you like to go to museums, please set aside a good time to go there calmly. It's my second time that I went there! I simply love that place! The museum is near from t station (science park/west end) and you can go buy can and stop in their parking garage (must check the garage hours on website). Go there wearing comfortable clothes and shoes because you will walk A LOT! The museum is totally interactive and in the green wing you can follow a knowledge trail! It's very cool experience! Check the attractions before go to be certain that you won't lost anything! There is a lot of bathrooms and place to fill you water bottle and there is a huge place with some restaurants there (red wing) where you can take something to eat. You can save money being a member of the museum or you can have a free ticket becoming a member from public library! I strongly recommended going there if you are visiting Boston. Visited on

This museum is always fun to go to. There are plenty of exhibits to see and experience for children and adults of all ages. The food court offers plenty of options can be a little pricey for some. They do have the option to bring food with you and eat at the tables. The museum has hand sanitizer stations located at every exhibit and they have hand washing stations. North Bennet Street School has now had more than five years to offer a peaceful truce to this dispute. They have chosen instead to sit silently or offer weak excuses. As a result, their unwillingness to resolve this issue has fostered hatred, rancor, and malice against me on the part of their "happy" and "successful" graduates and clientele. One has to look no further than the rebuttals to my reviews to see how this reviewer has been portrayed (by people who are ignorant of the facts of this dispute) as stupid, unreasonable, incapable, and possessing a host of other undesirable traits. As I continue my training and form relationships with colleagues and with skilled, award-winning and highly respected artisans and craftsmen in the field, they are impressed by my work ethic, enthusiasm, determination, ability and dedication to this craft. When I share with them my bitter experiences with NBSS, they are shocked and appalled that an institution with "such a good reputation" would behave in such a shameful manner. This "charitable", "philanthropic", tax-exempt, non-profit corporation, whose mandate is to benefit the community and stand out as a beacon for what is just and what is right, has failed miserably in this regard. Proof of one's character is in one's deeds. Their hurtful words and deeds will stand in perpetuity as a witness against them. NBSS's own actions will forever point an accusatory finger at its self. Quoting someone who has completed a similar course, he/she stated, "Any school worth anything will know that to achieve perfection in a jewelry piece is to work long hours after the teaching is over. The fact that they did not allow you to take the work home is ridiculous." I was not allowed to take the work home, not allowed to stay adequate after-hours to work in the studio, and not allowed to hire even a school-approved tutor (even at my own expense) to complete my projects. This commenter goes on to state, "One of the first lessons in jewelry school was that you will be painfully slow at first, and that speed will only increase with practice and repetition." This is a concept NBSS' instructors and administrators simply could not seem to grasp. I don't doubt that others have had wonderful experiences with NBSS. I too have read about the stellar successes of others after the completion of their courses there. I wrote this review to speak of MY experience. MY complete disillusionment and betrayal.A. I would give 10 stars if I could. From day one meeting Rob ( admissions) to tour the school( pre Covid) to now 4 months into my Carpentry program everyone has been absolutely incredible at helping me achieve my goals and get better at what I absolutely love doing – Carpentry and woodworking. I have never been part of such an amazing community where we are driven and connected by our passion to create things by hand and learn as much as possible from our amazing instructors who are a sea of knowledge and help each other. Yes standards are high but for anyone who's into their craft that's not an issue. You show up early, do your work, be responsible and respectful. NBSS is preparing you for the real world. I’ve been in the Locksmithing program since September 2020 and have had an awesome experience thus far. Rob Dwyer is very personable and was extremely helpful throughout my entire application process. Bob at the front desk and Kristen at the gift shop are super nice people and I look forward to coming in every morning and greeting them. The program head, Barbara Baker, is an amazing teacher and has taught me so much in so little time. She takes the training very seriously and not only expects you to put out the best work that you possibly can, but she will motivate you to do so. Through her instruction, I have gained a large amount of confidence in myself and my abilities both in and out of locksmithing. My time at the school has gone so well that I made the choice to apply for their carpentry program and continue growing my skillset here.Viet Phan

I would like to share my law school experience as a 1L at New England Law School and extend my gratitude to my Professors, Dean Greenberg and Jacki Pilgrim for making my experience exceptional. I was accepted to a larger law school but decided on NESL as I felt the school was very welcoming and gave each student personalized attention. That is what I found at NESL. I also found that my fellow classmates were very engaged in their learning, helpful and supportive to one another. Everyone is willing to share their notes if you miss a class. I truly admired how dedicated the Professors, Administrators and my classmates were to their legal studies. From the first day when President and Dean O'Brien said "we want you here and will do all we can to help you succeed" to our 1L entering class, he kept his promise to us and the experience was wonderful along the way. New England is the school for an engaging and personal law school experience. What a waste of money. Constitution law is taught by a weasel who usurped vital information concerning the US Constitution and replaces the curriculum with the blueprint for the Communist revisions that have taken place since justice Frankfurter. This school should really be shut down as a favor not only to the country, but as a favor to students who aren’t looking for Co-intel agents posing as professors. They monitor your internet browsing history for political purposes and grade unfairly. The students have their lives in shambles by their third year, and so many people never pass the bar. If you’re looking to learn and practice law go to a law school with high bar passage rates, or save your money and pursue a BA in paralegal studies or a Masters at Northeastern law school. Paralegal professors at community college will blow these professors out of the water in terms of their knowledge of the law. The reason people don’t pass the bar is because the professors don’t know the law, and they waste everybody’s time with the Socratic method because they have no input. A paralegal program will much better prepare you for a career in law. Also, there’s very few jobs even for the very few people who do pass the bar.Frank Garrett

New England Law | Boston is a wonderful school, filled with knowledgable professors and dependable, supportive professional staff. I came to NEL|B from Texas, unsure of what to expect as I had never lived in New England before, and I was met with the warmest and most welcoming atmosphere. From the moment I attended the New Student Orientation, I knew I had picked the right school. Through the years, my decision has continued to ring true. It is a small school which enables the students to create personal relationships with their professors, but big enough that it also affords every student with opportunities to pursue any legal interest imaginable. The location is unparalleled; the Boston Common is across the street, the school also sits right in the middle of Boston's popular Theater District, and it is an easy starting point when needing to get to Government Center or other areas of downtown Boston where many law firms and companies are. BUA is the best school in the city with a positive non polarizing learning environment. We don’t need ungrateful new people who have to always be the center of attention constantly pushing their opinions on everyone else. Someone who has tried to keep our great schools closed in the past by expressing their radical views. These unfounded and unwanted opinions should be kept to oneself to avoid causing anxiety within our community. Comparing in class learning to “driving while texting without your seatbelt on” is just plain reckless. You are scaring new drivers instead of building their confidence. It is a beautiful piece of land very close to Route 128. My family and I went for a ~10 mile hike this Autumn. The only reason it is not 5 stars is that there are too many trails and therefore you need a map. There are also a lot of buildings on the land as well. We donated a couple of dollars. I don't know the cost when the facility is open or it is summer.jsenkevi

Ran a very rainy trail marathon here…and it was really great. Trails are pretty and most are run-able (if you're an experienced trail runner). Totally worth a visit.A AA

The facility is very nice but the actual experience is awful. It feels more like a Boys and Girls club rather than a fitness center. The kids literally just stand around and take up space without actually working out. No one has any type of gym etiquette, weights are left everywhere, people dont always wipe things down after they use them. Personal space isnt really a thing there even when it can be unsafe. Im giving it two stars because if you come after 8pm most of the children have already gone home and thats when things kind of resemble a proper fitness center.Jason Xavier

I've had a wonderful experience at the Y but it is extremely upsetting that their child watch still isn't open in urban areas when it has reopened wealthy suburban areas. It doesn't feel equitable and dramatically impacts my ability to go to the Y. I even emailed with Marvin Morel, Membership Experience Manager, and he just ghosted on the subject when I pointed this out. But that aside, the facilities are wonderful, children's swim classes have been awesome and the guy in charge there is so nice, and my experience with Jen for personal training has been amazing.Rachel Peranzi

Huntington YMCA Recently renovated, The Huntington YMCA is a wonderful way to work out!!! Clean and spacious, it offers swimming, weights, treadmills, eliptical machines, and everything you need to to feel good!! I've been working with Bryan Leigh for almost a year now, and it's been a great experience! He pushes me just enough…so that I feel like I've really accomplished something, but in a way that isn't scary to a person who has never done things like deadlifts before. 🙂 I'm looking forward to the next year to see how much more improved my fitness will be. BronCore Fitness is the best gym in Boston! All the classes are a lot of fun and challenging. Staff is always very friendly, welcoming and supportive. The gym is impecable, really nice and up to date equipment, which I can appreciate after going to other gyms in Boston. Broncore is an awesome place to workout! The classes are challenging but fun and always unique! The instructors are knowledgeable and really care about their clients! I enjoy this small improv theater. I live in the neighborhood so I really appreciate having a place to come in every few months for a laugh. I also think it is awesome that they have a free show after there late show – around 1130 I believe. I have been here numerous times and have had some hearty laughs all but one time – when I made the mistake of coming during a geek themed show. I am appaarently not as big of a geek as I thought. Anyhow, they have decent drinks (harpoon beers) for decent prices to round out the experience.Marilyn Collins Sysko

Really fun venue to spend the night with friends and family. Our group went here for a bday and we all had a blast. The show was hilarious, engaging, and overall just a bunch of fun and laughter. The small bar and snacks available were great (beer, wine, chips, m&m’s, etc) and the performance was wasn’t too long or short in length; it was just right. I highly recommend this venue if you’re looking for something fun to do in town, either for the whole family or a night out with friends (all ages friendly).Mike

Went here for a New Years Eve show, and had a blast! What a fun way to ring in the new year. The space is small, which makes the show more intimate. Beer and wine are available to buy and bring in with you, which makes everything funnier. Be prepared to laugh, and maybe even get the chance to come on stage! Shows are constantly changing, so keep an eye on the schedule. Parking is tricky in the area though, so arrive early to find a spot if you're driving.Emilia Diamant

My experience with this facility has been incredible. A++. The staff is incredibly personable and more importantly they are remarkably with my toddler. We have been with Bright Horizons since my son was an infant but due to covid most of that experience was age 1 and beyond and 95% of it during the Pandemic. Safety First: They take incredibly precautions to ensure their staff’s safety, my child’s safety, and by proxy my whole extended families safety. And this is just discussing their pandemic precautions not their everyday center safety precautions. The educational experience has been first rate. We notice a huge difference in the weeks our son goes to daycare and the weeks we have opted to keep him home. He gets experience in language, art, and movement I could never equal at home and best part. I am not left out as a parent. We get solid updates daily from the teacher (with pictures!!!). And Bright Horizons offers wonderful webinars for parents that have been extremely helpful over the past year, as well as monthly center meetings for parents at our daycare (remote for now of course). I recently used Bright Horizons at Fan Pier for emergency drop-in care. The Assistant Director Jackie was absolutely wonderful to speak with and so helpful when it came to booking last minute care for my daughter. She helped me through the registration process which was quick and easy, especially for such a last-minute reservation. The teachers, Johnesha and Erin were amazing! They were so warm and welcoming which made it easy for my daughter to adjust as it was her first time going to a daycare. More importantly, it gave me a sense of peace leaving my child with someone new for the first time. They sent me pictures and updates on how she was doing all day via a mobile app. When I picked my daughter up, they were so friendly and more importantly my daughter was a happy little girl! I was so happy to hear how well she did on her first day and what a pleasure she was to have in their classroom. The facility was clean and inviting. The entire process from start to finish was super easy! I would highly recommend using Bright Horizons Fan Pier drop-in the program if you are ever in a pinch!Jennifer Fahy
