20 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Rochester, NY (2022 Updated)

My son recently graduated from this college. He transferred in from a 2 year college so he was only there for 5 semesters. Things started okay but went downhill. Communication quickly became a problem. We had issues from professors, finance and counseling. It became so bad that to get anything done we had to cc the Dean in any messages that we sent. I also know of someone else who had to do the same thing. The last semester was the worst. He was enrolled as a full time student but when the bill came through it was in correct. We got loans for the first amount but had to get additional loans after the semester ended. No one sent an email we had to check the account because my son never received an email or his diploma. When we were notified by the finance department they told us we had to fix it. Numerous emails were sent to many different people but nothing was ever fixed. We finally resent the emails and cc’d the Dean and it finally got fixed. The college also changed the advisor without notifying us that it had changed. My son had to find his own internship and figure his classes out on his own. My daughter had the same issues with communication. She was signed up to go but never heard back. She then got a call from the advisor asking why she never showed up. The advisor had enrolled her in classes but never told her. She ended up not going. If you choose this college they will take your money but you will have to do a lot of work to make sure they are on top of things.Todd Crossett

I graduated from Roberts last year and I had a great experience. I do agree with some reviews that communication is not always great, but as long as you are proactive and take an active approach to your education here, you'll do wonderfully. The staff and students are very respectful and the professors seem to really care about you and your overall success. It is a nice size campus, not too busy and not too small. I went to undergrad here and loved it. There were always opportunities to learn outside of class, meet people through activities, and my professors knew who I was. A wonderful place to go to school and a great place to visit. The students here are almost all very kind, sweet, accepting, supportive, and open-minded people. They are slightly diverse in terms of demographics, and quite diverse in terms of personality. The college offers a diverse range of majors and excellent classes. It has particularly great music, performing arts, nursing, and physical therapy programs. Class sizes are not very big, with very few lecture hall-style class settings. The teachers are mostly very kind and care greatly about what they do. Tuition is very high, but depending on your program, it can be worth it. The campus is beautiful! It is full of nature and a mix of collegiate gothic and more modern buildings. It is small and dense, but not crowded. It is also very safe. Risk of theft or damage to property is very rare, but the latter is more common among lowerclassmen. There is so much history to uncover. It is located close to good places to shop, eat, and visit in Pittsford. The academic buildings are clean, well-lit, and mostly fitted with modern amenities. Bathrooms in some buildings are very clean, some are quite unclean. The lowerclassmen residence halls can be somewhat loud, are typically slightly unclean, but have many events to attend run by the RAs. There are dorm or suite-style living choices. Upperclassmen residence halls are mostly clean, almost always very quiet, and have dorm, suite, apartment-style living choices. Living arrangements are for full-time students only. The food in the Dining Commons is pretty good. It has a pretty diverse menu with some options tasting decent, some great. Other food locations around campus have a somewhat limited menu range and the food is mediocre. Some alternative dietary accommodations are met, and more will be made if requested. Facilities staff are mostly not friendly, but not unkind. The staff in the Dining Commons are mostly pretty friendly and very kind.Graeme Lechner

I received counseling services from John Aceto at Nazareth College. This man is sexually inappropriate! I met him to work on my shyness, and for the entire session he tried diagnosing me other issues. He told me I drink coffee everyday because I have "Caffeine-use disorder." That rediculous disorder is not even in the DSM! Then he diagnosed my father with Bipolar disorder, based on my childhood memories. He never even met my father in person. After the session, he began rubbing his hand on my back, telling me that he wanted to "help me out." I felt violated. BEWARE of this man! He will rope you in for other issues and try to take advantage of you. I expressed my concerns to the director, Megan Clifford Papponetti, and she black mailed me. She threatened to have me suspended, and that is exactly what she attempted. She shared my confidential assessments and sessions with my Ex and even to my professors. My professors were concerned about me, saying that they received a strange call from Megan "bragging about the information she found out about me." That was PERSONAL information that I trusted with the Nazareth College Counseling Center, and I was humiliated. Nazareth College, you should be ashamed of yourself! Terrible when it comes to visitors and what information they tell you. My sister is currently in this place and apparently I can’t visit her. When my mom called them, they told us “only two set visitors can show up to visit the patient.” Nowhere on the pamphlet did it say that. The pamphlet says “immediate family members are welcome to visit during the day” and “other family and friends may visit Monday-Friday”. Also, they said it’s a rule due to covid. Everybody in our family is vaccinated including my sister (the patient) + we haven’t been near anybody with covid at all. Thanks to the hospital to telling us about this policy, my brother and father have wasted just about 3 and a half hours of their day going to visit, told they can’t, and driving back. Also, what happened to the no electronics thing? Everybody was told she was not allowed near electronics, but all of a sudden, she’s allowed to have a zoom meeting via iPad? They just broke their own rule which was already stupid in the first place. This whole place is a disaster.AverageBoi2356

Spent 6 hours at this hospital. They don't seem to do anything but COVID. I told them multiple times I didn't have COVID but they wouldn't be convinced so they sent me home with no diagnosis, convinced they were right. Got my negative test result from them this morning but that doesn't help my 101 fever. People need to trust that a hospital will actually do their job instead of just assuming they know. Really scary and pathetic to think how many people this has happened to.djrethoret

Horrible if I could rate 0 stars I would. Honestly this has to be the most worst medical center in the US. It makes every other center pool bad this place should've been shut down from the start I hope they know how to deal with lawsuits better then they're students/patients cause by the way this place is running they're gonna have a fun time in court. When I attended this extremely conservative school, I was heckled on a regular basis by professors regarding the style of clothes that I wore. I was later forced to discontinue study in the program due to hearsay regarding my spiritual beliefs. I would not recommend this school, even as a last resort.Standard Candle

Current Admissions counselor/coordinator and director is rude, not helpful, nor understanding. They ignore application and take months to get back with you. This shows that the school is money hungry. I would recommend looking at other nursing schools that really care about prospective and current students.Keal N

If you're looking for a Chofetz Chaim yeshiva that is very frum yet chilled, then this is probably something you should look that. The Rebbeim are kind, both the hebrew and english education is good, the rules aren't overly intense, and you have room to be yourself. Terrible yeshiva the building was falling apart and some rooms don't have heating. It's also next to 100 bars so you'll always hear drunk people screaming at 1 am.Josh Strait

– If you commute….don't come here. All the commuter parking is taken up by people who live on campus so you can't find a spot. You'll get a ticket for parking where there isn't a spot but someone who lives on campus won't get ticketed for storing their car in the commuter lot (they have a massive lot for students living in campus) Actually come to think of it; the parking here is just abysmal in general. – The gym for people who aren't student athletes is very small and they don't have showers so if you live off campus you can't go to the gym between classes. – While the library staff are helpful the library is small and they don't enforce volume levels so no matter where you go it's loud. – If you're a Veteran…don't come here. The VA office is slow, inefficient and has more extra paperwork to do than any other college I've been to. It seems like every semester there's some problem that prevents them from processing the paperwork. Even MCC does it better. When you go in to politely ask for help you get attitude from their staff as if them helping you is a burden. Literally every veteran here has issues with this place. What's worse is the hours of the veterans office are short and obscure so you'll probably have class when they're open.E

This is a great school. The new president and her administration are definitely making a difference. They are working on the veteran issues so hope to see that resolved. They are active with the community with classes for seniors and access to the fitness center. They often have free movies and lectures available to the public, (at least 4 per week). I absolutely loved my time as this school. I met some amazing people, and still talk to some of my professors because they were so impactful on my life. The plowing was decent unless it was a really bad storm, in which you weren't going to see your car for days. As a commuter, this was fine for me. Of the more than 50 top universities we toured around the country, Rochester was my favorite. Not only was it outstanding for its serene and spacious campus and its architectural richness, but for the people. The friendly staff who greeted us, the advice of their genuine and truly supportive admissions counselors, the welcoming and enthusiastic professors we met were all top notch. Ultimately my child chose a different university, but I would have been happy to spend more time visiting this campus and the surprisingly lovely city surrounding it.Mags

The school is beautiful. But really hate ur medicine in it. $600 just a single test with insurance. Talk and talk, never solved my problems. Did a much better test for $100 in another place without insurance and eventually get healthy. It’s not mental problems!!!Stella G

I don’t personally go to RIT, or plan to, but I just need to say, to everyone in these reviews complaining about the cold or snow: did you bother to even look up upstate NY weather? We frequently get nor’easters, side affects from hurricanes that travel up the coast, as well as one winter we’ll get like a foot of snow and others we get snowed in so bad it’s level with your car. Not financial aide friendly. Tutoring for chemistry didn’t start until the fourth week of classes. The chemistry lab professor are rude grad students. The teachers are unorganized and unprofessional. I would not recommend this school to anyone. The ONLY good thing is the co-op.Laporcha Richardson

The best library I have ever been in. Labyrinthine, quiet, and with more nooks for thoughtful reflection than you can discover in four years of dedicated search. The dome is beautiful and worth taking a tour of. The carillon bells are always a fine surprise when they echo out over the quad. This is a great school to start with prior to transferring to four year institution. Lots of classes with great professors that can relate to students. The biggest takeaway is the cost as compared to traditional four year schools. Aside from the positive stuff I've mentioned comes the bad. When I attended this school I was informed by counselors that receiving an AAS degree is the same as an AS degree with all my credits able to transfer when I decided to pursue a four-year degree. The only difference separating the two degrees is work experience. Well, once I started Brockport a majority of classes in my major only transferred as credits towards my BS degree and NOT towards my major program requirements. Despite having completed similar classes within my major I was forced to retake classes with same syllabus at Brockport therefore, I basically had to complete all four years all over again. Anyone considering to pursue a program here, my advice for you is to make sure you ask the right questions and understand the different types of degrees prior to committing . It's not worth anyone's time or money to retake classes at any institution if it will set you back.Giuseppe Mellia

The pool is very clean, but the Lifeguards are always on their mobile devices not even paying attention. One will guard the entire area standing far away from members attentive but the other two guards in uniform instead of surrounding the pool area with guards at all angles of the pool these two staff sit with either their back to the pool or on their phones. I also see the director sitting in his office never walking out on deck to correct the matter. Why pay staff to neglect their position of which they were hired to do.
