4 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Miami, FL (2022 Updated)

I never had a chance to visit barry university before enrolling and I wound up not liking the area. The area outside of it is very ghetto and the dorms are smaller than what is shown on the layout online. I didn't feel safe in the general area so I withdrew from the university during the grace period where I should've gotten a 100% refund on classes and an 80% refund on housing. It's been almost two months since I signed and dated the form where I only agreed on paying 20% for housing and 0% for classes. I had not gone to any classes and now I am moved out and enrolled in a different college. I am still being given hell on this process where they were only responsible for calculating the 20% on housing that I owed and signing a withdrawal form. It's taken them two months to do these simple tasks that should've been made a priority and I was told it would be. I am now being billed for $7,050 for classes. For what classes? I hadn't gone to any and withdrew during the grace period. I have copies of my withdrawal form stating what I signed for and printed copies of the official website stating the corresponding dates and percentages for refunds and billing. They are now either going to resolve this issue right away or I will be in the process of sueing the university. This is ridiculous. The only person I can say actually had done their job was my academic advisor who also agreed that this process has been a ridiculous money scam.Miranda Moran

What can I say: I love Barry. Even though I live way up here in Jax, I commuted down there for classes once a month. It was worth it to me. I’m in the PhD nursing program and I can say it really changed my life. Dr. Jessie Colin, who is also my chair, is the most intelligent and remarkable person I have ever met. The 5 stars is for her and how she is running the doctoral program. Thank you Dr. Colin! The rest of the nursing faculty are also wonderful. Lovely women (too many to name). I’m so glad I made the decision to come to this school. I’ve learned so much that this post would be too long to describe it all! It’s an intellectually challenging program, so be ready to learn. This school in general really focuses on social justice. If you are not open minded to multi-culturalism and discovering new ways of thinking outside of the norm, this may not be the school for you. I tell people this because I know how the culture is in America today (ignorance is bliss). You have to accept to live the ‘Barry Life’, which is being open to culture and seeking justice for those whose voices might go unheard. Like some say on other reviews, yes, the area in which the school is in is kinda sketchy. And be prepared, the student parking is awful. The biggest parking lot is a couple blocks away and you have to take a shuttle to get to the campus. It’s a small campus but quite beautiful.904 CZV

Barry University is the worst. I was enrolled for one semester in 2013. The way the school system is set up is terrible. NO ONE is on the same page, rarely will credits transfer, teachers do not truly care or seemed interested in making personal relationships (mind you this is a PRIVATE college), and lastly…getting your transcripts sent to other colleges is the HARDEST. They go through different programs like "Transcripts on Demand" so there's no help from Barry because they don't even know whats going on in the transcript process. They just buy some company to come handle all of their students and transcripts for them. My transcripts are now late being sent to two different colleges and its been over a month since I sent my consent form (since when do you need a consent form to sent transcripts…usually you pay a fee and that's that). I have loved being a student at Albizu University. The small class sizes makes communication with teachers amazing, teachers know you by name. Teacher’s experience is invaluable and they bring their expertise to the classroom to make the learning experience amazing. There is always someone willing to help with any questions or concerns. Albizu university is a great place to learn and I would highly recommend it to anyone interesting in taking a path toward a career in psychology. I feel incredibly prepared and look forward toward my future endeavors thanks to this university and its amazing teachers and excellent staff that have helped me along the way.Karina Aspillaga

It is reassuring how Google allows businesses that slightly change their names to erase all of their bad reviews and start fresh. I obtained both of my degrees at this campus. While attending, I experienced several issues with Admissions and Financial Aid at CAU. After I graduated, I discovered on the US Department of Education website. that there was a Pell grant that was never applied to my tuition. It was a slight oversight on behalf of the Financial Aid office. My student loan could have been less but alas there is no accountability.Cristina L

Albizu University is a great school. Teachers care deeply about their students and make time to make themselves available to their students. The student community is very friendly and there are plenty of clubbed and events for students to get involved in. Albizu also offers a number of workshops regularly to educate their students on various topics related to the fields of psychology. Unless your parents can afford the exorbitant tuition or you have a great scholarship I would not recommend attending UM. I had some good professors and some not so good. Class sizes are fairly small which will matter for some, others not so much. People talk about the campus being beautiful but in my opinion it was nothing special. It is a fairly new school and the modern buildings lack the character of older schools established in the 1800s. In addition, the older buildings they did have are being torn down to make room for newer facilities. Weather is a plus if you don't mind the humidity or lots of rain. If you are looking for the "typical" college town experience I doubt you will find it at UM due to its location in a large metro. It seems like UM is a hot destination for prep school kids from the Northeast. The vast majority of guys that attend UM are bros. Also rich kids from around the world, especially Latin America, the Caribbean, and China. Save your money. Start off at a Community or Junior College then transfer to a public four year college or university. At the end of the day the University of Miami (like all other colleges and universities) is a business. They just want your money. They don't care about you or what happens to you after you leave. I should have gone to school here. Have visited here for classes and performances all my life and I've always LOVED the lush, campus grounds, the macaws, and best weather. THE school to attend in America. Has it all. Was there on a Wednesday recently to work their Farmer's Market. Yes, urbane UM hosts a market every Wednesday. Part of their WellCanes program. Absolutely beautiful campus! I took a tour and the campus is very post-modern. Lots of art works and installations spread throughout. There is a wonderful mall style food court. We took a look at the dorms and each person gets their own room in their floor. Tour information session extremely informative with costs, requirements, options, etc. Everyone could not have been more nice and helpful!Christian Martin
