20 Best Physician Assistant Programs In Provo, UT (2022 Updated)

Does anyone get the feeling that many of these 5 star reviews are ingenuine? I attended Provo College for 2 semesters in 2011. I believe at the time they only offered an Associates for nursing, not a BSN. The tuition was very expensive, but they sit you down 1 on 1 with someone who gets you started on loans. At the time it seemed great that they were so helpful, but l later realized it was benefitting them more than me…which is why they make that part of the process so easy for students. I ended up leaving because the financial aid ended after 2 semesters and I didn't want $60k of debt for a 2 year nursing degree. The other thing that I didn't like was even though I was paying them insane tuition, they would have us come to a classroom for remote learning from Utah State University. This means you might take a math course from them and pay 3 grand, or however much it costs for one class, but you are basically doing it online/remote through USU…but you're paying way more than if you just went to USU. I later went to UVU and was able to compare the anatomy course I did at PC versus what students said it was like at UVU, and the course at UVU held students to a much higher standard. After a short personal experience at this college, and the ability to compare it to the other colleges I've attended, I wouldn't recommend it.Derek Drennan

I am about to finish my first year of nursing school. I have really enjoyed my experience here at Provo College. One of the the many things that I like about this program is the faculty. The faculty really gets to know you and you aren't just another number in the classroom. Each of them know me personally and even call me by my nickname. The faculty really wants you to succeed in the program. Tudors are made available to you if you are having problems in a course at no extra cost to you. Currently as a nursing program we are working on a service project, where we are making blankets for a local pediatrics unit. This is a great program that I would highly recommend! Provo College is such a great school!! The faculty, staff, and program administrators are totally invested in the students. I felt a genuine sense of caring from everyone there the first time I visited the campus- even the campus president took time to introduce himself and get to know me a little. The nursing program is amazing – all of my friends in the program had great internships, passed the NCLEX test the first time and have found fantastic jobs they love. The other programs are amazing also. I can't say enough good about this school!!!Staci

School here is nice and if you need something cheap, but UVU reinforces the comment that "University education is becoming less valuable." Half my professors were either teaching here their first time, didn't speak English, or had no expertise in their subject. I passed 2 years of credits by watching videos and drawing pictures during class: not because I'm smart, but because there was no content. Like in high school, many of the professors have 30% percent of their grade centered around attendance. Not participation, but attendance. So yes, I ignored class because everything I needed for an A was provided online. I'm typing this now during Philosophy class, and I am not missing anything. Books are hardly ever used but are "required" according to the professors. They gather dust on my shelf. Most problems here need to be fixed across the nation not just UVU, but I am a very frustrated student in my twenties because I don't know where my money is going. Teachers aren't happy with pay and all have second jobs. The building and resources are really really nice but I rarely need to use them since the internet was invented. UVU in general education has the same quality as Khan Academy except here, there is a physical address they want you to come to. There is a good range of food options but mostly crowded into the same building. Parking is ridiculous and there is no reason to pay $90 a year for the clustered insanity that the school created. Use the darn money to hire a civil engineer for God's sake. Once you pass general education and focus in to better classes, the rooms get nicer and the teaching quality doubles. Don't come here if you're not willing to graduate. Location is fine other than the city planning on the busiest road outside. If you're coming from the south east your drive will be dangerous, traffic is terrible and construction has been in effect for 4 years now. Very annoying. Train station is very convenient and is likely your best choice if you have a transportation method to your nearest station. Students who work feel punished because rent in the area is high, and pay low. Scholarships are handed to those without jobs first, those who aren't working for rent and tuition are the ones handed money from the school. Afternoon/Night classes are poor in options and schedule so working at a volatile job is ever more of a punishment. (Data from a few friends and strangers) Many activities, but the activities most advertised in my buildings were focused for helping women, about guest speakers, for the LGBT community, or cost $15. So I've never been to one, though free lectures and speeches are common. Overall, UVU focuses on medium-to-low education and welcoming everyone with open arms. But once you're here, you may want to transfer to BYU or drop out entirely.Isaac Benge

Coming here was the best decision I have ever made. Every single professor cares about my learning and the fact that the average class size is 23 (I’ve never had a class over 25) makes it so my teachers know me, know my name, know what type of student I am, and some even came to my wedding! I have also been incredibly impressed with the resources. You would have to TRY to fail at UVU, because they truly make it so easy to succeed. From job resources, free tutoring, professor office hours, financial aid and scholarships, and everything in between I honestly feel like every single person I talk to wants me to succeed. The campus is amazing and INDOORS like seriously it is the best part of campus. Shorts in the winter and pants in the summer. Sure parking can be hard, but you are 100% going to find that at any university and it is really only bad after 10am so if you have classes before that you will be fine. The social life is great and the activities are fun and well attended. Free food at all times and tons of on campus food options. I honestly feel like the education I received is worth a million times more than what the tuition is (one of the lowest in the nation for a university). UVU focuses on Engaged Learning, or learning by doing, and most my classes don’t even have textbooks or tests, just projects and resume building it’s amazing. Add that to the fact that it is open enrollment and you can see why it is the largest university in the state. Seriously. Come take a tour at least and see how awesome UVU is.Justine Rupprecht

In all honesty do NOT go here, if you have a better option do not come to this college, it is a over glorified high school. They aren't too expensive which is nice, but they charge many other ways, you must pay to take tests if you are not there the first day, they offer no flexibility when taking classes especially if you are working full time. The professors are 50/50 you either get great ones that work with you, answer quickly to your emails, and are awesome. Or you get awful ones that only two kids pass their class, they will put you on academic probation which I don't get because I am paying to go to school here, so why does it bother them if I failed one class because the professor was awful. Pretty awful education experience. The vast majority of professors are terrible teachers. In fact, it's apparent they care more about their research that the school funds, than the actual students and the material they are teaching. So many teachers seem to have the mindset that "Oh, if these students aren't as passionate about this topic as I am, they are going to fail." Of course, there are a few incredible teachers, but they are few and far between. Not to mention, that a large population of the students act extremely entitled and judgy. Kinda of ironic, considering the school is owned and funded by a church that claims to have the most accurate understanding of Jesus Christ. Attending the school is incredibly cheap, however, to which I will praise. The opportunity to make it through school without any debt is a massive help for many. That being said, plan on changing your major multiple times, because almost every program is extremely competitive and very very difficult to get into. AMAZING!!! BYU runs one of the largest, if not the largest, comprehensive summer youth sports program in the country. They consistently draw student athletes from all over Utah, the Intermountain West, The Unites States and even have a number of international athletes every year. We have sent our own kids for 5+ years in multiple sports. They love it!! They love the week long sport specific camps, the housing option, the friends, camp counselors, student coaches, meals at the Canon Center and ice cream at the creamery store. This is a large campus with a number of different facilities. I love that there is no charge for the Bean museum or the Paleontology museum. The creamery makes just about the BEST I've cream I've ever tasted. The Wilkinson Student Center has a bowling alley and am extensive good court and more. Love the Arts center and basically find there is too much here to tell about, but it's worth a visit just to explore the campus. Love the bell concerts at noon.Leona Keesling

RMU completely changed my LIFE! I have made lifetime friends, and we have been there for each other not only through school-related things but through everything else that life consists of. Career-wise, I went from going to work every day and being satisfied just where I was to having a desire for growth and excellence in my profession. During school, I have received several certifications that have increased my knowledge, and many of them I learned about from my classmates. Now, I am the only SLP in my entire state to provide one particular swallowing treatment and one of about seven people to provide two other treatments. In addition, RMU was essential in me learning how to start a private practice and improved my confidence in myself that I can actually run one! Now, I am running a successful practice with five independent contractors. My experience at RMUoHP was amazing. It began with my inquiry and application to the program! They do everything to take care of students! They are by far the best dental assisting school out there. All the staff is completely dedicated to the growth and success of each student. They change lives. I've been to their graduations and I've never seen such a happier group of graduates and teachers. On top for that this isn't just a dentists practice side hobby , it's a school fully committed to you. They don't offer discounts because their value is above and beyond. Nikki is incredible! Utah Valley Dental Assisting School was an excellent program. I would definitely recommend anyone to come to this school. It is for everyone and anyone can learn. I knew absolutely nothing when I started and was quiet nervous but by the end I feel prepared enough to now work in a dental office. All of the instructors are great (I had Anna who was AWESOME) if we had any questions or were unsure about anything she always took the time to explain. She was very thorough with her explanations and if we needed any extra practice she sure gave it to us. I know it can be a tough decisions to decide on what school to go to and if it is worth your money but from my personal experience I would honestly recommend this program.SUMMER HAMDAN

How your visit goes really depends on which front desk attendant you talk to first. Walked in, it was my first time, First lady I spoke to had dark hair, she looked me up and down and acted almost annoyed that I was there, and told me it was an hour and a half long wait, could I handle that? Seeing as how I was sick as a dog (it’s an urgent care after all) I had no choice but to say yes. She starts putting in my information, gets distracted by something and passes me off to someone else, who was very sweet and caring and told me the wait time would just be 15 minutes? Everyone else was nice and I was actually seen quicker than that. I was seen by a nurse practitioner rather than a doctor, not a big deal, but he did introduce himself by his first name the way doctors do to little kids which I didn’t love. He then attempted explain some very basic terms such as “dehydrated” to me, which came across a little condescending. Would have been a great pediatrician visit, but I’m 27. He was nice, he was helpful, but it didn’t really feel like he took me seriously. There was a guy outside asking everyone who came out the door if they had a cigarette, which was uncomfortable. So yeah, 3/5. Nice office, just enough odd moments that I was put off.Mary Poulton

I had my annual check-up in Revere Health Care past April. They told me, they are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield. I also checked it before my appointment. At the time of the appointment, another practitioner came (not originally Dr. Jones, it was Ryan Thurston, FNP). He only told me to take over-the-counter vitamin D. They charged me +$200 (since insurance did not cover it) and sold my debt to the debt collector (National Service Brue) after I made my payment. These people and services down here are TERRIBLE. I’ve been sick on an off for several months but more specifically the past two weeks. I was referred to Dr Ibarra and was immediately schedule with him and then he ordered blood work and labs the same day.. I’m going for a CT this afternoon which is just one day following our appointment..I feel confident that a Dr Ibarra will do whatever it takes to figure out why my body is responding in this manner. After a visit to emergency I was referred to Dr. Thorpe at Revere Health Gastroenterology. They were able to get me in quickly. I was pleased with my visit and they put my mind at ease as to the results of tests done in emergency. Update: They have a serious scheduling issue. I would often wait an hour, once even two, to be seen! I came in after a week long of hardly being able to move my neck. I had been laying awake in bed at night in pain for hours. After one visit, I finally had a good night's sleep and woke up feeling almost completely better!S W

Not the best pediatrician office in provo, me and my four kids were waiting to get our twin daughters 8-year-old checkup, we arrived at 4:00 we did not see a doctor till almost 5:00pm and the nurses didnt once come in to say, I'm sorry the doctors running late or nothing they kept me and my four kids in a tiny waiting room without any warning that it was going to be longer than what it is. In addition to that, I don't know what it is but they had a lot of college students working there and they were seriously rude and I've had so many issues with this particular office not you know sending an email or a text message concerning my children's upcoming appointments for immunizations or anything, it just seems like they are seriously lazy and they seriously don't car. So, I recommend you find another pediatrician because, this office is not organized whatsoever, there's too many college kids who seriously don't want to work because, they have literally no bedside manner and you're not guaranteed to see the same pediatrician, so you're better off going to urgent care because, there's no consistency at all with the doctor you're going to see for your kids. And I don't want my kids being seen by 85 different doctors who do not know their history not to mention immunization records, we've emailed to them and they keep telling us they never received them or they got lost which is just bogus in my opinion. I generally like this practice. They are very popular, so sometimes they run late. Waiting times in the waiting room aren’t bad. Usually they have tour total waiting time spread out between waiting room, vital check, doctor visit, and possible follow up for shots. They are all really good with kids, as they should be. My biggest waiting time is usually for the nurses to come back to give shots after talking to the doctor. I’ve thankfully only been here for routine visits- no sick visits yet. I stay with them because they have after hours visits and a nurse line and a nice website. I had doctor McCoy a few years back. We had moved to salt late and my husband said we are not switching doctors and we would drive almost an hour because we knew he is a great doctor. We moved from Utah and I have to say that all other practices and doctors can’t top doctor McCoy. He truly cares for his patients. He would call personally if I missed an appointment and say to come in and he will check my son. When I would leave messages for him with the nurse about concerns I had he would personally call with his answer. They have after hours where I could bring my son and the weekends too. Referred to Dr. Campbell's office by UVH ER after my daughter dislocated her kneecap. We were able to get in the same day and only waited a couple of minutes before being taken back. Dr. Campbell was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I felt very good about his recommendations for my daughter's care. He was very attentive, careful and calm. I came in on a workers comp claim for a broken wrist and Dr Campbell was knowledgeable and direct and gave me the info that I needed to frame my expectations about the healing process. Wow! It takes a lot to impress me, and this place was impressive. Very organized, very professional, hardly any time in the waiting room. Once I was taken back to the exam room, my x-rays were immediate and the doctor saw me soon after. My total appointment time lasted 30 minutes! Very efficient.Katia

They sent me the link for doing the review so this is what it took me to. Can y'all please differentiate the names of y'all's locations on Google? I looked up where the appointment would be on Google maps when i was leaving in a rush, and went to American fork when it was actually in Provo. Had to reschedule. Almost missed the next appointment when I went to the wrong location in Provo. Apparently searching Revere health isn't specific enough, and i really don't see how that's 100% on me. I'm just glad I didn't have a more serious condition needing attention, because between the time it took after first scheduling, to the first appointment, to the second appointment, it was well over a month and could very well have been longer. Ain't nobody searching the name of the doctor for directions when they scheduled an appointment with Revere Health. At the very least, please include the address of the office with the confirmation texts/emails so the confusion won't happen with anybody else. I’d give him zero stars if I could. I have been struggling with excruciating and constant chronic pain for years now. This doctor told me I was faking it to get pain medication out of him. I wasn’t looking for any pain medication. I was looking for a doctor who would help me understand what was causing the pain. I had to go to another doctor to find out I had a cyst in my sinus cavity. Once it was removed I was out of pain. This doctor wasn’t even willing to help me try to figure out what was wrong. Please don’t go to this doctor. I remember sitting in his office crying because the pain was so bad. He didn’t even care. There are plenty of other doctors who are willing to listen, or are sympathetic, and actually want to help you.Whitney Frei

This practice is a joke, and I have even heard so from other doctors in the area. Dr. Jay Barton overprescribes medication to make more money, and makes rude comments like “Why even come to the doctor when you aren’t even going to listen to me.” My blood pressure is on average 116/78 and he tried telling me I had high blood pressure and wanted to put me on the meds for it. Additionally, I went in to get blood work done. I was the only person in the office and it took them over 45 minutes to even call me out of the waiting room. I was told I would get my results in the next 48 hours and if i didn’t answer the phone, that they would text me my results. A week goes by and I heard nothing from them, so I called. Within the week after that, I called six separate times asking for my results, and they would give me a time frame that I would receive them in, and every time I did not get them. I eventually called and said I just wanted a refund and the staff kept ghosting me. Yet again, saying I would get a call back within the day, and I would receive no call. Eventually Jay called me back saying he tried reaching me multiple times (when I didn’t receive any calls) and that he now had my results. He was very rude when I told him that I would rather just have a refund. Ashton, one of the receptionists finally did help me and she is probably the only good person there! She should be running the place. She was very kind and apologetic, and told me that I should be getting a refund soon in the mail. With the reputation of these people though, who knows if that refund will ever actually come.halie rogers

Horrible service, especially if you need URGENT care. We had to basically beg for help. And still didn't get any. When we explained the urgency of the situation, the person looked at me for a long moment, and then left the room. I suppose they went to go find a nurse or a doctor that might know what to do, but who knows— as they didn't say anything. So then 3 people came to look at us. Not offer help or comfort or suggestions… Just to look. Didn't say anything, even when I asked questions. It was like talking to a wall. Finally they told us they didn't know what to do. From being wheeled in a wheelchair with chaotic speed and jerky movements and smashing into a door (as my daughter is trying to not pass out); to having the Dr mimic the seizure-like movements to my daughter in a mocking way when I left the room, to slow service and hardly any communication, ….extremely poor bedside manner… It was horrible. And when I went to pull up my car to take my daughter to the ER instead, they said they wanted to call an ambulance. I said No. It was not necessary and my husband and I could get our daughter there easily. So while I was getting my car pulled up, the Doctor kept saying to my daughter that he still might call an ambulance! I had to rummage around their front desk in the lobby to find my Dr. License and Insurance Card, as they had left it there with no employee to be found when I needed it back– as we were leaving. My 9 year old neighbor with no medical training would've taken better care of us. I wish I could leave 0 stars. 1 seems generous.Geneal Wilson

I came out of the clinic in a worse condition. I went in earlier this week to get my ear cleaned because of some wax build up. I’ve had this done before a few times so I’m familiar with the correct process of how to do this. Unfortunately, the doctor started carelessly and harshly shoving a tool in my ear without using a otoscope. Yes, it is as painful as it sounds. The doctor used way too much force and resulted in the tool being covered in blood after he was done. He acted like it was normal and was wondering why I was flinching so much. I was in enough pain to cause me to just tell the doctor that he fixed the wax problem and that I’ll head out. So I left the clinic with me ear canal bleeding steadily. I wake the next morning with my pillow covered in blood and in quite a bit of pain. I need to go spend more money with a specialist now to get all the blood out of my ear canal and fingers crossed there is no permanent damage. I’ve been to this clinic before so it was drastically different then my previous experience.Jackson Horne

I've been at nexus for what has to be at least 5+ years at this point and I still love them today as much as I have since day 1. When I came to them I was in my late 20s coming off a 3 level cervical fusion, which is obviously pretty uncommon. The surgery itself was a great success as I regained movement of my arm which was the goal. Unfortunately I still have chronic pain in my neck, something my surgeon told me would be the case for the rest of my life as my condition is progressive and had already done quite a bit of damage before the surgery. The reason I mention that history, is because Dr. Rosenthal, Dr. Cloyd, the entire staff, and everyone I've seen has always taken me seriously and treated me with care and respect. That may not seem like a big deal, but as a younger guy in a state with an opioid epidemic, you'd be surprised at how quickly and how often you're written off as someone just seeking drugs. When I started here I usually saw the P.A. which has rotated over the years as they've moved on after completing their training with Dr. Rosenthal. However over the last year+ I've been lucky enough to see Dianne, and she's amazing on every level. My fiance and I were expecting our first child when I started seeing Dianne, and without fail everytime I've seen her she asked how the pregnancy was going and to this day asks about my son, how he's doing, and even let's me show off his pictures and tells me what a cutie he is. My point here being that instead of feeling like I'm going to an appointment with my Dr. I feel much more like I'm going to see a close friend or a family member that just happens to be the one treating my pain. All that is just about the kindness and hospitality they have here, and I haven't even touched on the world class level of care and multiple approaches to treating pain and helping people they're capable of at Nexus. I'll keep that part somewhat brief and summarize it with this statement. Because of their committed approach and belief In doing all they can, I would still rate Nexus Pain Care and every provider there a solid 5 stars, even if they didn't show a single shred of respect, which is obviously not the case. Doctor Nakken is by far the best doctor my wife and I have ever had. We were in a major car crash over a decade ago. An Astro van ignored a red light and blew through the intersection with out trying to slow down at all. He his on the driver side with enough force that he welded the metal pieces together. It was bad enough that the first responders thought they would be recovering corpses, not saving us. Somehow my wife and I both survived but with severe injuries to nearly every part of our bodies. Since then everyday has been a battle with the pain the doctors could not repair. Dr. Nakken was the 1st doctor that treated us like patients instead of druggies looking for a fix. While seeing other doctors before him we never missed a urine sample / asked for higher doses/ and jumped through every other loop the doctors made us jump through just to prove we are really injured. We even tried very expensive out of pocket treatments so we could get our lives back. Even after doing all of that the doctors would still treat us like junkies. Dr Nakken and his staff have never once done that. In fact the nurses will come out and say hi to us. They all know us by name, and if they can tell it has been a hard day they will even come over and give us a hug while telling us it will be okay. That they are there for us. It is a small thing, but it means so much to me. If you are looking for good pain management look no further. You won’t find a better doctor in utah valley and frankly the stateMichael Hardy

So my girl friend was working there and she got let go because they said she stole money when she wasn't even there I don't think this is right or fair because she didn't nothing wrong and 1 of the girls she was working with just walked out and quit on Friday she probably stole the money plus the hr assistant knew where the money was and told another person where it was and how much was there hmm I wonder who really took the money the hr assistant or the girl she got on who only knew how to make sandwiches before this jobbrian nash

First time here and the process was incredibly easy. Once I was able to speak to someone at reception (line was a bit slow but I can't fault them for that) they had me in an exam room within 10 minutes. Both the nurse and Dr. Hoyt were fantastic. Very personable and knowledgeable. Made me feel like I was in very capable hands. Should I ever need any future medical attention, InstaCare will be my first choice.Logan Rowley

I was struggling with my asthma. I had significant shortness of breath and tightness in my chest. I went to urgent care. Seen within 10 minutes. The MA was kind and professional. The doctor was caring and listen to my concerns. I was on a breathing treatment and some medication’s. I started feeling much better that day. I appreciate it. Nurse who checked me in was super nice but the doctor was not engaged at all. Went in for an injury and without looking at it said we’ll do X-rays and then walked out. Fine if you are really just looking to get X-rays and no other care. I didn’t have a break so his response was basically, nothings broken, good luck. My primary care provider is Karmin Bell. Karmin is awesome beyond words! She is absolutely brilliant and is my anchor as I have had multiple surgeries and multiple diagnoses and Karmin does not refer me and forget the health issue (s) I need to see a specialist. She wants and continues to take an active role in all my cares/procedures , test results; lab,radiology etc… she is an absolutely brilliant, caring and compassionate provider! I went in for a dental exam a long time ago, and was told a prior auth would be needed for further services. After waiting more than a year, I never received an update. I tried calling, but the staff member told me I would need a new exam and would have to wait even longer for an appointment. It is not my fault nobody followed up in contacting me. I should be bumped to the top of the list after waiting OVER A YEAR and not be told to wait even longer due to an error the staff made.Lauren G

They gave me wrong info when I really needed to be seen by a doctor because of pain I have on a walk in day, they told me I couldn’t be seen because I have had the pain for over 2 weeks. Also very rude because I needed to see a doctor and I had called the day before and they told me to go to that walk in appointment so that was wrong info. I LOVE the Parkway Heath Center. We live in Lehi, and we routinely make the 20+ minute drive to come to this facility. Every single time I have been here, either for myself or for my children, we've had an amazing experience from the minute we walk in the door. The front office staff is the best I've ever seen. The medical assistants and nurses are always very friendly and helpful. I have seen two physician assistants and a doctor at this facility and I'd recommend any of them. They have phenomenal customer service and give great patient care. I feel like they really listen to you and care about you, and offer education and help instead of just throwing pills at you and sending you on your way. When one of my children came in with a broken arm, the x-ray technician was out immediately in the lobby, talking to my daughter and personally walked her back to the imaging area. She was tender and kind to both me and my daughter during this distressing process, and was so thorough and great at what she did. I was just so impressed! We have also worked with the Moran Eye Center at this location and love them, as well as the pharmacy here and have had great care there as well. This is my favorite health care facility and I recommend them highly!Stacy Parker

Our U of U doctor places an order for lab work. This place can never see or find them. We are told to deliver kidney stones to be analyzed. We deliver them to this location, and they promptly lose them. We are told by our doctor to call this location to find out what happened to them. We do and are told that they don't know, and to just consider them 'lost in transit'. I assure you, you cannot (and do not) want to pass more kidney stones for analysis. I'm not writing this because I think this location will ever improve. That ship has sailed. Nor do I think that U of U is a bad medical system. On the contrary, the South Jordan location is great and the only one I trust now. No, I'm writing this for you, dear reader. You brave folks who are considering going here. I strongly advise you to consider other options. And if you proceed.. well. At least you have a better idea of what you are in for.Dane Godwin

This is the best medical facility I have ever received treatment at. The front desk staff, the nurses, and the doctor were all very kind and patient, and efficient – I felt listened to and valued, and the sensitivity is beyond anything I've ever experienced before! Not to mention how amazing the medical treatment was – I experienced lackluster care from my general doctor in Salt Lake City (before moving to Provo) over the course of 5 months for my illness, yet in one visit from Dr Ogden, she ordered 11 labs, and gave me so much positivity and encouragement! I felt full of hope at the end of our first visit – something I really needed after over six months of suffering. I will proceed to always go to this clinic no matter how far from Provo I end up moving.Alexandria Kiel
