20 Best G.E.D Programs In Omaha, NE (2022 Updated)

Writing a review for UNMC is an emotional task for me because they have been there for my mom and family through life, sickness, recovery, health, and even death. In all they've been there for they did right, without judgement or bias, and with care, hope, and support. I live in Kansas, but I know this hospital and all the towers better than some streets near my home. I've interacted with many specialty doctors, nurses, techs, housekeeping staff, ER, security team members, and so many others. We've experienced teams in Kidney Transplant, Wound Care, Cardiovascular, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Derm, Cancer Center, and the Comfort Care Team. I can tell you that these teams are here because they love what they do. If you're considering UNMC as a new place to care for your needs I would do so without hesitation. When my mom moved they were so helpful in her transition to Kansas. Without them we'd be lost. We will miss each of her teams, their knowledge, and their care. It was so hard to leave.Tam E

Very disappointed in care provided. Nursing seems sorely under staffed. Although they frequently have cell phone in hand. Communication between staff (doctors and nursing staff)is lacking. Communication of providers and patients is insufficient. Facility is dirty dusty and run down. And should we talk about HIPPA….nothing to talk about….it doesn't exist there. Hep locks do not get flushed even after several days….negligent much? Showers/bed baths not offered to patient even after 3 days in-house. Are they trying for some nosocomial infections?S B

Today I went to Nebraska medical center and the eye clinic. The people that are very friendly and nice it's clean has three levels. The doctor I seen seem very knowledgeable and was very concerned with my eye condition it was funny when we first pulled up and parked in the first row there was a broom next to the handicap sign made me laugh remind me of handicap which parking. Someone probably had clean snow off their car with the broom and left it there.Karen Beautiful

My daughter has been planning on going to Northeast for over a year now. We sent in our housing application, fee, and dorm request last year. She received a letter that she got the dorm she wanted! She elected to go to Northeast at this point because she was so happy! She met her 3 roommates for the 4 person dorm room! All is good… wait… nope guess not. We received a call today that they are overbooked on kids and jamming 2 more students into their 4 person dorm room. 6 people in 1 dorm. Where will 2 xtra beds go? How will 6 people use 4 tiny closets? How will 6 girls shower and get ready in 1 tiny bathroom every morning. I called to say—- ummmm- no…. and I was told “it is not our choice”. I’m sorry, we are paying over $10,000 for a dorm room and it’s not our choice? I have never been more disappointed and do not know what to do. Can we even get into another school this late in the year? Did Northeast do this because they know that we are stuck? Literally so upset. Ima tell everyone I know because what they did to us was dirty. Be very careful with the promises your are given when visiting this school.Abby Hansen

I recently completed a summer course at North East and was informed that they do not provide a forum for students to give feed back to professors on the course. I believe that it is note worthy for professors to be evaluated by the subject/students to see if they are performing up to expectation or not. The professor was unprepared in the syllabus as to what was necessary to purchase for books and materials. The syllabus stated 4 materials were needed and we never used two of the items listed. Followed MLA citation in book that was required but docked on grade because professor used different style in his notes (required book referenced Print vs Web). He didn't want this noted. How are we as students to learn from our mistakes if we don't get assignments graded and back before the next assignment due. All assignment built off the previous assignment! This was a good school overall. I went here from 2009 to 2011. It was a small school and they were just building their multicultural department so it was something to be desired but it was good education. If you came to class on time and did you're part of the work to be prepared you made it through. There was true traditional student to teach your advisement here for the students career path. I am in the MPA program. While the program is very hard, but yet rewarding, overall, UNO could use some restructuring of their programs and the professors who teach them. There should not be that much variance/ disunity in a professor’s mode of instruction/ lectures and expectations compared to the students homework/ assignments. I know that I am not the only student who felt/ feels this way about some of the professors teaching styles. Some students have already reached out voicing their concerns some students have not because they just want to finish their programs and be done. I feel like students were misled about who would be supervising their projects for spring 2019. Students have been told different things and it keeps changing to fit everyone else/ program needs and not the needs of students. As students, we are students of UNO but we are also customers/stakeholders too. I think UNO sometimes loses sight of that. Like other reviews have indicated the UNO staff/ professors some of them are unresponsive and they do not return emails or phone calls from students asking for help. So don't count on traditional student advisement because they do not do this here. You will navigate your program of study on your own. Hopefully you know which classes are offered and when they are offered or you will be a year behind your graduation schedule as certain class are not offered year round and no one informs you of this until it is too late.S J

Very unprofessional and unresponsive staff, if you want to transfer with an associates, be ready start over at UNO as a freshman. UNO is a business, they're mainly in the parking and book market taking advantage of students, books are twice the price on campus compared to other bookstores elsewhere including online, they advertise cheap credits but when you register, you're bombarded with fees that don't even make any sense, the total fees could amount to more than what you pay for tuition! Not to mention, if you want to meet with an advisor, even for a simple question, you have to make sure that you make an appointment a month in advance, that's how it goes there, they don't respond to emails, to them you're just another student and you don't really feel appreciated, I ended up leaving UNO despite coming with an associate's that was just earned with a GPA of 3.9/4.0, I was told I'd have to start as a freshman! I'll be fair however, the one professor that I took her class there was a wonderful professor she really cared about her students. Nonetheless, I ended up transferring to another university that took all my credits and recognized my hard work and I only have to do 2 years or less there! Since UNO loves profits, I guess in short I can say that I took my business elsewhere!Y. M.

UNO COMMITS LEASE OR RENTAL FRAUD. BE AWARE. Cancelling your housing contract early will lead them to immediately charge you half of ALL OF THE RENT YOU HAVE LEFT, which will likely amount to over $1,000. If you don't pay this all in one bulk amount on ONE DAY, they will begin to charge you late fees. If you get a replacement for your room, THEY WILL NOT TELL YOU, despite saying in the contract that a replacement releases you from what you owe (AKA, they should refund you, but THEY DON'T EVEN TELL YOU). When you call them, they will ask how you 'found out' and then direct you to a different number. Besides, living at UNO is not worth the rent anyway – dorms are messy, noisy, and I knew several people who reported black mold in their dorms and it was ignored by the university. Their classes are often huge lectures with old and upset professors who don't help you to actually learn at all. Majors are limited to mostly business or IT-related occupations with little room to move. Degrees take a long time because they require multiple prerequisites for one single class. UNO LITERALLY ONLY CARES ABOUT MONEY, NOT YOU AS A STUDENT. PICK SOMEWHERE BETTER. There are MANY, MANY BETTER CHOICES.Rachael

My sister went to use 3D printer for a last minute cosplay project, and from what I understand I think everyone there actually tried to make things difficult for her. She never used one before, and the staff essentially shoved a manual in her arms and told her “good luck”. Every time she went to politely ask for help, a very rude lady grew increasingly annoyed. And after struggling to turn it on for about an hour, she only then realized the print would take 5 hours. I mean that makes sense, but after asking for help on what to do, my sister only received a snide “Well isn’t it a little late to be working on a cosplay??” from what I assume was supposed to be a professional DoSpace employee I mean at least ask if she has experience or maybe communicate the timeframe of 3D printing beforehand Not saying we won’t frequent the establishment again, but hoping next time you guys will display a bit more professionalism and not let someone’s child pose as a worker.Thanos the Mad Titan

Great concept, nice facility and great place to get work done after the libraries close. Most staff are nice and just leave people be. A couple staff aren't very friendly, very condescending and intrusive to guests who have questions, adjust their face masks, or speak with other guests even when these same staff will hold up their own lines by chatting with certain regulars. A few weeks ago a lady who works here got annoyed with me and yet took the liberty of showing me how to work their printers after I only asked where they were. I've noticed her and another lady get snippy with guests over petty things pretty regularly. It would be nice to be able to make reservations without having to be checked in by staff upon arriving; not the worst people I've ever been around but I've always had less hassle and better service at the city libraries.jordan schriner

Great facility and makes for a good time. Fast computers and internet. Needed to process and upload a few hundreds of gigabytes of photos and this made for fast work. Plenty of software and online access to materials. The Do Space made short order of the task and in a clean, sanitized environment. They have classes, learning for all ages. Learn new skills or 3 D printing. They even has a Metro Community College site located on the second floor.JEFF PETERS

At the beginning of this summer I was enrolled in the hybrid cna program. To say the least it was great. The whole online process was on your own time which was very convenient to me and will be to anyone with busy schedules. The information left online was very informative. As far as in class goes the teachers were very kind and wanted to see you succeed. They were there to help you when you needed it. With the help of them and the determination of myself I was able to pass both parts of the test the first time. A great program for anyone who is interested in being a cna!Kaylee Smith

Attended the CNA hybrid/ weekend course recently and I found it very rewarding. Come ready to learn and with skills known from online training because each day is full of hands on training. I sincerely recommend Sylvan to anyone! The teaching process is one of a kind as it's tailored ACCURATELY to each kid, but it'd be wrong of me not to mention how wonderful everyone there is too! The kids there aren't some number in a classroom, they're INDIVIDUALS that are not just being taught in a personalized and highly successful way but the Sylvan staff genuinely cares about every child. Those things together I think make all the difference in the world. My son has a confidence I haven't seen in him for too long! He loves going there, he adores his teacher and he is progressing so fast! After after just two weeks he was reading at home, something he wouldn't even attempt before and now enjoys reading to his little brother and I 🙂 The staff is great to work with! We're kept updated and communication with them is made fast and easy (phone, email, text) And without their flexible hours we would not be able to do this at all since we live so far out. Sylvan has done WONDERS for my daughter!! From the beginning, Sylvan has always given her the confidence in applying what she has learned to find the correct answers needed! Club Z is a great resource and delivered as needed. From the first phone call to the final follow-up and all the tutoring in-between the service was wonderful; everyone has been very professional. My daughter was tutored by James for the SAT. He had specific numbers he wanted to reach and not much time to prep. With just 8 sessions in about 4.5 weeks he met and surpassed his SAT goal! I called and was able to get 2 appointments that afternoon with barbers in training for my daughter and I. My hair trim/cut was great. I was very specific and watched very carefully when there was cutting being done so no cut was taking much more than the split ends. My daughter's barber in training took a too short cut to start with so instead of 2 inches below the jaw it was barely jaw length so barely into 2 pig tales instead of a short pony tale to get it out of the way that she had planned. The instructor fixed it so the look was closer to what she wanted by texturizing the ends to lay down (fluffy hair was making it way shorter than chin length). She is now okay with it but will make sure to watch close and yell "Stop! I want longer hair than that." next time. She did state that she would make the appointment and request a female next time so that she would feel more comfortable since the barber in training actually told her that she was the first girls hair that he had cut. Definitely lack of confidence building unfortunately. I plan on going back to my barber Maurice because he checked with the instructor before cutting with what I had requested. I have the utmost confidence that he will be an awesome barber/salon associate!Nett Hutfless

I really like the prices. However, I've had my hair colored here twice and the first girl was more experienced so she got it done very quickly. The next time I came in, they used the same color formula but the girl was less experienced so it took her a really long time to apply the color and it was significantly darker than what I wanted when it was rinsed. I'm not that picky and it's cheap enough for me that I don't care, but just remember that it won't always be perfect.Elizabeth Miller

3/8/2022 Got a trim and razored the back of my neck. The experience went OK, the cost was about 30% of what I normally pay. Since this is a school I'll never get the same barber over the long term and I do like getting to know service people. After awhile they know what I want and I don't have to explain it over and over. So now I'll have to figure out if the personal relationship is worth the extra cost.Ray Wollberg

Very quick, relatively simple process. You wait in line, show your id and QR code, blow your nose, get your test. Results should be available within 72 hours, but from most I've heard about a 24 hour turn around.Carson Leiting

The best part about this college: everybody is friendly. The teachers here care and want to get to know you and have no problem helping students whenever they are able, and if they're not then there are tutors available at no cost. All of the classes that I took were informative enough with the exception of a select couple classes. The bookstore is convenient and for the most part the prices are fair.Jacoby Smith

Over all community colleges are good and cheaper to start your degree, but here at the south campus they attempt you to get your associate degree in nursing with a short amount of time and you think your life change for better, but they will destroy you. I am a 3.8 student and started nursing program here, and you can't Believe it they destroy my life. My grades are at the lowest right now and I can't even compute and enroll another school. They make you to stack with them forever by repeating the class agin and again. This is the worst decision I made when I join this program. I don't recommend this school for the nursing program.cory troy

This campus is pretty relaxed and calm! Every time I have went here it hasn't seemed crowded. The staff are pretty respectful and very helpful! 5 stars definitely. The school is also amazing in my opinion as the teachers they have are helpful and open minded to students struggles. This campus has the MCC Veterans Center. If you're a student veteran definitely hit them up. Private tutor, snacks, coffee. Great place. 🙂Nate Y

I went through a program where one of the instructors was racist and very biased. I was a tutor for that program and I kept seeing intelligent kids getting bad grades that just didn't make sense. I started paying more attention in class when they would ask a question and get immediately shot down. I started digging a little bit and they told me that they hated the college and told people not to attend. My eyes were being opened to more and more bad things in that program and I felt helpless. I decided to reach out to administration for help, and for a bit I thought they were on my side. We had a meeting with some deans and very highly educated people in the college. They heard our complaints many times and did nothing. I thought it would be best if I took matters into my own hands and decided I need evidence to defend these kids. I started recording classes and I have some pretty disturbing videos of how an instructor teaches and acts around his students. I always thought students payed for college to learn and not be belittled and mocked. I brought these videos to administration so they would have grounds to take action. I was told that I violated the student handbook for videotaping the class without the instructors knowledge. They said I was trying to trap him. Nebraska is a state where legally one party must know of the video and that was me. Administration never did anything more to remedy the problem. The students being affected passed the rest of the tests with the best grades in the class. It feels like they swept it under the rug. I am very sorry I could not do more. If your a minority I would highly recommend you go elsewhere!Isaac Booth

This school is fantastic on the education side. Instructors do their best to work with you and make sure they are doing what they can to help students succeed. Most of the staff is also very helpful, but the Housing department is abyssmal. They use students to carry out most of their work and handle every situation by issuing fines. During the school day, you usually can't find anyone it the Housing office at Milford campus. My mail has been lost more than once and one package never got to me at all. I wanted to love this school and i may have if the housing department actually cared about helping students. This is a business and students are customers, but here nobody cares.blake ryals

The majority of the staff at the Milford campus are very helpful and nice. Karen went out of her way to help me find a tutor. Great local 2 year college to start your educational journey. Low cost, flexible registration, traditional student or not, fees are low and nearly all credits transfer to other schools if you go for an additional degree. Lots of online options, too. Helpful staff and faculty who are there to help you succeed. Recent impact study results show graduates are in demand in all areas and are finding good jobs in the state.Barry Horner

I am a (more mature) student at Southeast (SCC) and am taking full-time, in person classes this quarter. I am very impressed with the facility, the hours, and the cost. I was very disappointed with a few faculty members I have spoken with on the phone that had been a bit short and unhelpful, but I gave not spoken with them since, never caught their names, and called in the last days of registration. Beyond this review, I plan to forget it and ignore that incident. The classes have been convenient for me, the teachers are very helpful, and the cost is so much lower than I had hoped. They offer tons of services to help you succeed, including fitness classes! The building (8800 O St), is an interesting combination of old brick with retro paint schemes, combined with new light and airy additions. The classrooms are pretty typical, the technology similar to other college campuses I have visited. Love the new cafeteria. In addition to online courses, SCC also has several other campus options in Lincoln, Milford and Beatrice, and satellite campuses in several other towns (I have only been to the downtown location and 8800 O St location personally). I highly recommend checking SCC out!!Not Telling

I attended the Auto Collision program and graduated back in 2006. I did not stay on campus but at times wish i would have had that experience. They offered a lot of different activities at that time from sports to game rooms and other programs i really could have taken advantage of. All of my teachers were very knowledgeable in their area. At times it does seem like a lot to take in because they do have a lot to teach, but that is why you chose a tech school and not a four year school. They gave me all the tools needed to get me started in my field of choice and i am still in that field today. They have made many of changes to the Collision shop since i have gone there. I love stopping out and seeing all the changes and expansion when i can and they always welcome back with open arms. This college is still under construction so it's looking pretty wild right now. The new remodeled parts like the cafeteria and study places look nice and bright. I have attended this college intermittently therefore I have noticed more of the changes throughout the years. In my opinion there are advisors that do not care to help you figure everything out but that being said there are some advisors that go that extra mile and help you much more than you expected. I have attended other colleges and this one is okay. I would definitely recommend that if you are wanting to start classes and go into a program that you talk to advisors, dean of the program or whatnot but don't give up just because one person didn't help you; find someone else who can help you.Aunty Fanny
