20 Best Vet Tech Programs In Chicago, IL (2022 Updated)

I will start with the good. The instructors are amazing. Most of them that I have had are very intelligent and filled with the necessary knowledge to teach you. Now the bad. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COUNSELORS!!!! Figure out what classes you need to take on your own. I spent 3.5 years there with a combination of full and part time and have no degree and no requirements for any programs that I told them I was most interested in. When I was a vulnerable 17 year old first generation college student there completely on my own they told me I needed to take reading for Nursing. For one, looking back, I placed out of reading. For two, I have yet to come across a nursing program that requires reading. It seems that they always gave me the run around and had me taking all of the classes that I did not need, and none of the classes that I did need. If you can figure out what classes you need to take on your own, then The school if great, and the education that you receive is great. If you have nobody to help you or guide you in your life and are solely dependent on the counselors advise, find an alternative.Amber Parson

I didn’t know I Loved ECC, until I moved and I was out of district so I had to go to MCC. I Hate MCC everything and everyone is shut off by 4pm and there’s no almost no teachers willing to teach past 4 (There are but only some). This is impossible to manage. I’m getting a job near ECC so I can go back. I MISS YOU. Not only does ecc have a ton a teachers, but they offer a variety of times for classes especially in the afternoon. There teachers are wonderful and dedicated (not all of course but most) and there facility offers so many different activities and clubs you can go crazy in there. I won’t cheat on you MCC but I will inform you when I leave you and that it’s not working out.ruby leiva

I write this review with a very heavy heart, as I feel like the issues that have plagued myself and the important people in my life have not been improved on at MCC. Pros: MCC has an incredible range of teachers. The Criminal Justice instructors completely prepared me for transferring to a 4 year. They're so knowledgable in their field and love their students. I still go and visit them since they were so helpful and kind! I also like the variety of clubs they have at the school. There is something for everyone. Cons: This is where I get angry. I know so many people including myself, who have been swindled out of time and money by the counselors. They tell you to take classes, only to turn it around a few semesters later and say you never needed them. I spent a year and a half more there than I needed to, and my boyfriend has spent almost 2 years there more than needed. We were told we needed to take specific classes if we wanted to graduate, only to look at the actual 'planning progress' guide on MyMcc to see that there were numerous alternatives that could have been taken to receive the degree. Not to mention we both were never taught how to navigate the online planning guide, so we trusted the counselors for help. We've wasted thousands of dollars on classes that did not pertain to our majors. I would have spent more if I didn't talk to a teacher in my field, who gave it to me straight and helped me make a schedule of what classes to take that were absolutly necessary. I am still incredibly thankful, but it shouldn't be the teachers job to honestly help plan their classes. That's what a counselor is for. It still blows me away that after all this time this kind of behavior is still accepted. Bottom line is, if you're going here for a class or two for credit during the summer or in between semesters, go for it. If you want to receive a degree, be wary and trust your gut. Learn the (difficult) mechanics of the website, as it's way more reliable than any counselor.Natalie H

Edit: I'm updating my previous review but it still remains at a stellar 5 star. This is the best school I've been to. The people upstairs in Building A who run the advising and financial aid are mediocre but once you pass through that it is so amazing. I always register online for my classes so I don't have to wait in line. So if you like to be guided by the hand and told what courses you should take and not have to contemplate what you might like to take this is not the school for you. This is college, not elementary people, surprise! You actually have to think for yourself! (The audacity, I know) if you go in looking for private rich kid snobby type atmosphere where people carry you to wherever you need to go you're going to be disappointed. As far as instructors go, I cannot recommend MCC enough. Those I have currently, and have had in the past, go above, beyond, and well out of their way to assist students with material, so future students can rest assured that they will be in good hands. One thing I will say is, be ready to deal with ten kinds of attitude from financial aid, if and when you need to contact them. I've had to do so twice this semester – once for an issue they could have contacted me with when said issue happened and avoided the mix-up all together and once with a question about a grant I received – and on both occasions it seemed like I was bothering them. I got really snotty, condescending answers, so….be prepared to deal with that. That aside, though, I love MCC and highly recommend it, whether you're just starting out or heading back to school.Asero

In the fall of 2014 I signed up for classes to start my future. Following my fafsa being denied I dropped ALL my classes within the same week. Black Hawk West Campus now has sent it to collections which is haunting me 4 years later. I was never contacted by Black Hawk about my debt, that I shouldn’t have incurred since I never stepped foot on their campus except to sign up and drop (IN THE SAME WEEK) to now 4 years later find I have a debt in COLLECTIONS due to their lack of communication or care. I’ve done what I can to try and figure it out but their “Policy” doesn’t allow them to work with me or it’s never the “Right” person to talk to. If you want to be haunted down the road by something this LESS THAN AMAZING so called “college” has to offer! Then sign up because you’ll be let down!Ryan Heberer

Advisors are hit or miss. Once I found a good one, I made it a point to always ask for her. Most of the professors I've had are good, although some are rather quirky (to be expected, I guess.) The terrible downfall for this college is some of the financial aid staff and registrar staff. They are patronizing, dismissive, not helpful at all, and have an attitude problem. It's as though Black Hawk doesn't realize that these are the first people that most students are going to come into contact with, and those same people will set the foundation for the student's first and lasting impression. Absolutely amazing college! It's amazing how much they are willing to help students out. There's scholarships to help pay for tuition, and programs that can even help you out with book/laptop expenses. They even have therapy sessions for anyone who's stressed and may just need to vent! I have been a student of DePaul University – Law College since 2019. Before joining DePaul I was contemplating between DePaul and other Universities, I am so happy I made the right choice to join DePaul. Not only is it a prestigious University with many famous alumni names, but also because it is a University that has made the list of the top best Universities for many years. Depaul has the best facility you can hope to study under, the administration are very helpful and my advisor, is one of the best, always available whenever I needed assistance, guidance or help. If you are a graduate of DePaul, you can be sure that employers will want to add you to their staff. Being part of DePaul, is being part of a large educational family. There are two campuses, the main one is located in Lincoln Park and the other one is located in the Loop, right in the heart of the business hub, if you are attending College of Law or College of Business. There are two huge libraries in the Loop campus, with access to Starbucks, as well as to, Barnes and Nobles. In both Colleges you have cafeterias amd study lounges. There is a Toastmasters club at DePaul and many other groups and clubs to join. Also, DePaul offers a help center, fpr students who may need extra help with certain classes, as well as, a writing center for whenever you need your essays reviewed, with feedback and assistance in improving it before submission. With all of the above and more, I could not possibly list all of the things DePaul os known for, or offers, but I can tell you one thing, if you happen to choose DePaul and become accepted, be sure you are part of the many successful people who will graduate with pride. You can be a full fledged patriotic American, but just because your parents travel and you may have a foreign transcript (from high school/ middle school) you are deemed an international student. To add insult to injury this particular issue entailed the student already having graduated from a neighboring community college. Yet still, they are deemed international. An obvious protocol set in place to guzzle money out of the student. Wasn’t even thrilled about their level of academics to begin with, so not having this school as an option isn’t a loss in the slightest for our family. Hispanic Heritage event went on without a hitch. Free of Problems and controversy. Entertainment was Great Food was Awesome. The Highlight was the introduction of the Main Speakers The New Era Young Lord's. Also some Associates and Friends from there Early Year's. The Bomba group provided good Entertainment and a Festive Atmosphere. In the Middle Sixties you could count the Minorities attending DePaul. The all played on the Basketball team. Vast improvements have been made. Opening Enrollment and and Opputunity. We can Thank Groups like the Young Lord's who brought to the light the Contridiction's. Great Job Latino Students.Rory Guerra

Hello everyone. I attended and graduated from Coyne College 25 years ago (1997) and I loved it. The program I attended Coyne for was electrical maintenance. I was pregnant with my tenth child when I attended and graduated from Coyne (yelp, pregnant with my 10th child🙂). The instructors were very knowledgeable and amazing. My peers were very nice and we helped each other out a lot. I appreciated the hands-on training. When I graduated from Coyne I walked away knowing and understanding more in depth of the fundamental principles of electricity than when I first attended. I must admit initially the program was somewhat intimidating but I was determined to complete it no matter what, and I did. When I first started there were a large number of students in my class but by the time I graduated there were only a hand full of us left. Many of those who stopped attending would say it was hard and I admit it was but we were there for each other and had the assistance of the instructors. I was the only woman in my class, but there were a few women in my graduation class that year. HERE'S A VALUABLE LESSON I'D LEARNED At Coyne we were taught that a good electrician never works on any electrical project unless he shuts its power source off first at the breaker box no matter how small the job is, "SAFETY FIRST"!! So whenever I get ready to install an outlet, light fixture, ceiling fan, chandelier, box, etc. my mind automatically reflects back to that principle and I always shut the power source off from what I'm working on. However, there are many electricians who doesn't apply such principle and that's their choice. But one slip up could possibly cause them their life. Sidenote: One electrician was taking a bath with a radio plugged into an outlet nearby in the bathroom so once he got out the tub he unplugged the radio without realizing it and became part of the circuit. Sadly you know the rest. The point of mentioning this is to ALWAYS have "SAFETY FIRST" on your mind when dealing with electricity!! I would highly recommend Coyne College to anyone!! Medical assistant program 2020 The instructors are great! Financial aid depart is cool. Admission peeps are great. The program itself is ok. (Medical Assistant) Class schedules often change due to availability of the instructors or enough students but the material is fair and you all should watching the cheating during exams. Not cool! I am not a fan of the woman in charge of medical assistant clinical placement and also job placement . She claims to be the, “light at the end of our Coyne journey” I strongly disagree! She (Sevtap) talks down on you and if you do not email her quickly she will call your phone and talk down to you for not responding. My other classmates have shared screen shots of her emails regarding her “typical” response to any given situation. Regardless of who you are please don’t belittle your students even if they know better or not. As for Hanson, she is director of students. She will smile and claim to have an open door policy but I never really experienced that. If you have questions she will forward you elsewhere. She also forgets this is not a high school and treats students this way. We are not children. Yes, some are fresh out of school and will sit at the elevator and pass out tardy slips!!! There is a “president” of the college who will walk around yet does not ever speak to you. If I owned a “family business” I would definitely treat my students simply by acknowledging them. It’s the little things. Please don’t forget that fund your school through tedious loans and monthly obligations. I have my top 3-4 favorite instructors and they truly enjoy the challenge of teaching their students and I thank you. I’ll never forget that! So if you can look past some of the minor annoyances, one might call this facility decent. 20k, let’s see if it’s worth it!!!Charlie Brownie

As construction was completed I moved on to another company. In 1985-1987 Spliceco/Group W Cable as an underground inspector. 1987-1997 TCI/Chicago Cable as a Design Engineer/Design Supervisor. 1997-2001 Ameritech New Media as a Design Manager. 2001-2003 RCN Cable Division as a Design Coordinator. I recently received a class schedule (non-credit) brochure in the mail from Harper College and found a mosaic class taught by artisan and glass artists Urii Guchenia and Nathalie who has her very own studio in Willowbrook. The class was very inexpensive and well worth it! Kristin the librarian was very efficient in sending us a friendly email reminder along with the campus map to find the building where the class was. The class was held in “The Make Shop” within the library. All supplies were furnished and setup for us. Nathalie and Urii gave a us brief history of glass mosaics and were so helpful while we created our pieces. They had a vast array of glass tiles in every color imaginable! It was so much fun and gave us all a whole new appreciation of mosaic artisanry!Michelle Foy

All along with a beautiful campus, excellent faculty and staff, and interesting engagement activities!! Please do not go to this school, its terrible! I went here for 3 years and obtained an associates degree in Arts meant towards a bachelors degree back in 2014 but my experience was horrible. Me being black and African, they denied me an opportunity to use the Chemistry Lab to work on an idea that I wanted to prove yrt they were allowing other students to use it. Yet, the school used me to advertise in the Daily Herald News Paper as an immigrant that goes to their school doing athletics. Months after earning my degree, I’m still recovering from the great mess that is NEIU. Our teachers ranged from grossly incompetent to straight up vindictive, although a few were good. We, as a collective, had to report one of our teachers to the dean due to her mind boggling incompetence, inability to stick to any sort of schedule, inability to create assignments, explain them, set deadlines, and provide directions or rubrics (i.e., teaching 101… and this teacher is in the Dept of Ed!)… the list goes on, but what’s worse is that the dean totally gaslighted us. She didn’t hear us out AT ALL and made us feel like idiots. The sequencing in our program made zero sense and the “required” classes weren’t even offered. Went to the head of the program (who was another teacher we almost reported for refusing to follow 504 plans which is a federal law, but we’d given up by then) and she said those classes weren’t even a thing even though their website had them up. Magically, the classes that we said attracted us to the program in the first place disappeared from the website that week with no acknowledgement from the program director. There’s just no direction here at all. It was hell. I’m so glad it’s over. 2 stars for cost and a few decent, kind, and smart teachers. If I could do it all again, I’d really consider going into debt at a more expensive university.Betty L

The school is very diverse and a lower budget choice. I graduated from their science/education programs. I found my degree in Biology to be challenging and largely based on book memorization with occasional hands on experience. Their lab experience seemed dated compared to other institutions. This tends to be the nature of Biology, but I wouldn't say they excelled in making the experience amazing or poor. Their education program however was very lacking. It seemed out of touch with employers/districts needs. There was little to no focus on methodology, classroom management techniques other than case studies. These are the two most important skills needed in order to achieve student mastery. They did not model what they taught and I found many of their classes to be instructor led discussions about student based teaching. There was an immense amount of time spent on lesson plans and preparing portfolio's. While both are important record keeping practices, they should have been interwoven into a curriculum focused on skills based learning.becky harwell

This review is based on a tour that I took, and I will talk about most of the pictures that I took. There are monitors in the hallways. They have the weather on them or events. There's a useful board that has all of the students’ activities. When you walk around you will see the balloons that were put together creatively. The presentation was about majors, tuition, and housing. They were kind enough to give us a tour of The Nest. There is plenty of parking space. The lobby was well designed. It had a quiet place to study, a gaming place, and a gym. When we went to see the model of the apartments. I realized that there were alarms and fire extinguishers, which is a good thing for safety. The apartment has everything in it! It has a dishwasher, microwave, and furniture. There were 4 rooms, 2 bathrooms, and a living room. The cafeteria was huge and I like the fact that students and professors eat there. The food wasn’t that bad. I like the fries and the chicken fingers more than cheeseburger.3b0p

This was my first onsite class with DeVry. I have had such a great experience with my senior project class here at Naperville. Being that it was my first time, I had to get an ID and receive a quick orientation. The onsite staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. In this session, our class was granted the permission to occasionally use the Addison campus for access to the tech playground for our presentations. Our innovative teacher, Professor Rucks, encouraged us to explore and utilize the facility to aid in our course work. When I needed academic advice and assistance, Mr. Dufresne, Assistant Dean of Academic Excellence, made himself immediately available and went out of his way to make sure my needs were met. Professor Nichelle Manuel made Database Essentials for Business w/ Lab worth every hour taking this class valuable. Her instruction during the lectures made everything that i read just *Click* every week. Her patience with the class really came through when a classmate needed help to clarify a task in our Lab. She made the class easy to understand and learning a new program very valuable. this class has helped me in my career by helping me improve on my relationships at my current employer by knowing how the program taught is the same one used at my place of employment. My school experience at Keller has been great from the start and I can honestly say it has been mainly due to the awesome faculty and professors. My last class Applied Managerial Statistics (Math534) just ended and it was again evident that because of professors like Dr. Al, who has the patience to teach and listen to students needs, that I was able to learn a lot more that I thought I would. I was very happy with Kris Jackson she did my tour and always answered me when I had any questions. I started in January of 2021 still in the mist of COVID. I had a good experience, be prepared NOTHING IS EASY you have to study study study. I feel like most of the teachers there really do want to see you do good and will genuinely try to do a lot to help. I struggled a lot but there is always tutoring and someone willing to help. With every school comes drama that has nothing to do with school but just to know. There’s a lot of commitment when signing up so just know what your getting yourself into. The school teaches you a lot you need to know and has plenty of resources if you need more help. Only thing I wish I knew was more things that we could’ve been taught for the “real world” like a lot we get taught we need to know but there is some small things we have to know like trying to find veins by ourself or little tricks other than that I had a good experience. I would recommend if you are able to commit to a long hard program it is very rewarding in the long end.Emily Pham

As a former graduate of VTI and soon to be practicing veterinarian medicine for about a year I cannot thank the staff and mentors enough for caring and teaching me the skills that I use in everyday practice. They were always so thoughtful and there when you needed a helping hand wether it was something as big as tutoring before all classes started or as small as just small words of advice to keep students going through the program. The classes are geared towards exactly what you need to know and all the teachers seem to be very knowledgeable in which subjects they teach. The Vet Tech Institute is an incredible school that teaches the reality of the animal career field. It teaches self discipline, personal instinct to trust, and an incredible amount of respect for the workers in any animal field. The staff are so incredibly patient and truly show their passion to teach and to love the animals we work with on an everyday basis. Being able to work with animals everyday in class only better creates a self confidence that has to be grown. Had applied to this school for the MRI Program. Paid all the fees for application, transcripts, etc. Took the entrance exams and passed. Received my classes/schedule and sent them my fafsa. I had been registered for my classes already. I did an interview, the person that interviewed me was not professional, believe her name was Danielle Dertz. When trying to answer questions, i was cut off constantly and put down. Then right when everything was set and done for me to start the course, they give me a call that they do not want me as a student. My time was wasted, as well as money. They thought that I was not a good fit for the program because it is "too stressful". Previously, I was a full time student as well as a full time employee and received my degree from a different school with good grades, so I was stunned at this claim. They based this claim off of a previous job I had quit which had no relation to the MRI program itself. Instead of giving me a chance, when i expressed my interest and drive for the school i was shut down. Really disappointed in how i was treated as a student in the pandemic wanting to further my education Reply to response: The fact that you guys based your decision of my admittance on a job I worked over a year ago is disappointing. Both careers are very different from one another, so it’s sad that it is assumed that I wouldn’t be able to handle the program. My grades and achievements proved otherwise, but that was completely overlooked. I noticed with other reviews that many students had issues with the interview process as well. One would think after so many complaints something would be done about it but i guess not. As a student wanting to further their education, being discouraged because of a decision made, once again, over a year ago, was very disappointing. CNA is not the same as MRI. Many things change after over a year. The way I was put down by the Program Director was very upsetting and unprofessional. And I had also received a full schedule for the program. All of my classes were listed. You guys had waited to tell me that I was no longer accepted, hence my time being wasted. Instead of telling me right after the interview, you guys had waited. Midwestern Career College is a phenomenal institution! The staff, students and alumni are some of the most driven and intelligent people I have ever met. I originally met Mary Schmidt in 2018 and was fortunate to form a great business relationship after attending a career fair at the Chicago campus. While I originally attended this career fair strictly looking for Medical Assistants to hire, Mary educated me on the Externship Program that the institution offers. Mary was so kind to visit various UroPartners locations to further discuss this program with our Practice Managers. After many introductory visits, UroPartners started placing externs last year. We have now placed six MA externs and three of those individuals are full time employees who are still with the company today! In addition to that, our surgery center is now also participating in this program as they have started placing Surgical Technologists externs onsite. It has been amazing to watch this program grow and I look forward to all the future success Midwestern Career College and UroPartners will form together.Yasmine Lozano

I’m currently a student enrolled in the EKG program and I’ve really appreciated the take on online education. We have an in person class once a week that really brings the class together and elaborates on key points. The facilities are really nice, the class I’m in is in their downtown building, and I have an outstanding opportunity to learn about my field. The class sizes are not big so there’s always opportunities to ask questions and clarify for my own sake. The teachers are very helpful and are more than willing to go the extra mile for their students which is amazing because you just won’t always get that at a bigger school. All in all I’ve really enjoyed my time at at Midwest career college and will be recommending this course of study for any of my friends or family looking to get an education in any of the many fields that MCC has to offer!!Michael Goubine

I drove 2.5 hours down to U of I after discovering my frenchie no longer had the ability to walk on his hind legs and was in uncontrollable pain due to probable IVDD and herniated disc. Truly a horrific experience to watch your baby go through something you can’t fix for them. U of I was the second hospital I drove to after being quoted for a surgery that was unfeasibly expensive. They offered me a smaller quote (about half of what I was offered in chicago) and were waiting for our arrival. Louis pain and discomfort was the first thing attended to, and he was brought to surgery immediately the next day. Frenchies are somewhat of a hazard under general anesthesia and the orthopedic surgeons and their team made sure Louis wasn’t under longer than need be. They called me prior to surgery after an MRI and gave me options. They explained each one, the possible outcome, etc. I made a decision and they agreed they thought that’s what gives him the best chance. Louis is 6 days post op and his surgeon and her student call daily to check his progress and to see how we are doing all together, and answer all questions. Dr. Song and her student Lauren have been extremely thorough of every process explanation and demonstration. It’s possible that not only did this surgery help his pain, but it might have saved his life. Louis is a huge fan of making new girl-friends out of his vets, vet techs, nurses, etc and I was so happy to see that everyone loved him as much as I do. It was reassuring. I was waiting for the right time to write a review and I finally got the time. Few years ago I took my cat "Max" twice to this facility. I drove over 2 hours since I live in the Northwest of Chicago. I expect from this place being the best since future Vets are graduating from there. The only part that I don't understand is the lack of professionalism and ethics from staff and vets. Their only concern was $$$$ and $$$$. A private vet cost less than this place. Anyway, my cat was diagnose with megacolon by my dad who is a physician rather than this amateurs who only want to experiment on my dear cat. Max passed few months after I took them since they couldn't diagnose his illness on time. The u of I vet med is a total RIP off . I've used them for large animals and small animals . They are a teaching facility and always want to do a bunch of extra things that are not necessary every time I've been there . I understand they are a teaching facility but it's not right to teach at the expense of customers That dont want/ need specific procedures . The last procedure I had done I askd the dr the prices before I had them done amd was told 300 dollars and now its 700 dollars after the procedure had already been done. Not sure to sure of there ethics there but this has happend on multiple occasions.. guess I shoulda learned The first few times. I would not recommend them to anyoneBrian Hefley

I really resisted changing vets after moving from the city, but I enjoyed my trio of appointments here. Cost feels very reasonable and all staff members at my appointments were kind, patient, and informative. I gave a 4/5 due to it being a hassle if you want to use Chewy to ship your pets’ medications rather than pick them up at the clinic. The office staff was unfriendly and impatient when I ran into an issue with my dog’s script that I needed assistance with. I’ve never encountered a clinic that doesn’t work with Chewy, and it felt like I was being scolded for needing some help and asking questions If I had known about this before getting my pets set up here, I probably would have chosen another clinic.Cecily

My son's puppy, Charlie was choking on a three-inch piece of bark. I couldn't get it out of his mouth and he (and I) were freaking out…..feeling helpless. I called the Village Veterinary Practice who told me to bring him in immediately. When I got here, they dropped what they were doing, rushed us in, and examined him. All was good. (Unbenounced to me, Charlie had expelled it right when we got there. I found the piece in my car.) He was going to be ok, but was definitely traumatized the rest of the day. Thank you VVP. Village Vet set forth clear and workable system to get our dog in and out for his checkup while keeping a distance and following the recommenced COVID protocols. Since my health is extremely compromised, their diligence to create a safe system was essential for me. I communicated via phone just like I was there in the exam room. The Doctor was NOT rushed. I had many opportunities to ask questions (which I did!) and received a good understanding of our dog's health status. I left confident knowing our dog had a complete and comprehensive exam, labs underway, shots received and clear and concise plan to deal with the issues identified during our visit.Walt

Had applied to this school. Paid all the fees for application, transcripts, etc. Took the entrance exams and passed. Received my classes/schedule and sent them my fafsa. I had been registered for my classes already. I did an interview, the person that interviewed me was not professional, believe her name was Danielle Dertz. When trying to answer questions, i was cut off constantly and put down. Then right when everything was set and done for me to start the course, they give me a call that they do not want me as a student. My time was wasted, as well as money. They thought that I was not a good fit for the program because it is "too stressful". Previously, I was a full time student as well as a full time employee and received my degree from a different school with good grades, so I was stunned at this claim. They based this claim off of a previous job I had quit which had no relation to the MRI program itself. Instead of giving me a chance, when i expressed my interest and drive for the school i was shut down. Really disappointed in how i was treated as a student in the pandemic wanting to further my educationTali Gallik

Hats off to the instructors that have the passion to teach. That will make sure everyone is fallowing along and understand the assignment, leaves nobody behind. However, there are instructors that just flip through the slides and if you miss something, you are on your own . They are oblivious or don't care on the stress that they're putting the students through. If they had any compassion, they would advise a student or students that are falling behind , and ask what they can do to help. That is not what I experienced from a certain instructor or a certain director of the school. I was late once and behind on some quizzes, and I was dropped. They get one star only because zero isn’t an option! Staff turnover is ridiculous – several instructors for one class during the same term… administrative errors, one after the other – no one knows what is going on… my daughter has repeatedly been marked absent even though she signs in and out of classes every time… she’s been jerked around on financial aid, and just today she found out she’s owes several thousand dollars because of mistakes made in processing paperwork… the university (and I use the term very loosely!) repeatedly loses paperwork and enters information incorrectly. Our standard poodle was born with hip issues that were not disclosed to us from the breeder. We're very grateful for the excellent care and advise we received from Drs. Palmer and Sexton. Their calm and knowledgeable guidance was invaluable in assisting us how to best move forward with his care. The support staff also couldn't be more helpful and friendly. Additionally, we appreciate having the option and convenience of asking questions and booking appointments on-line as their response time has always been quick. We've been bringing our dogs to BRVC since 2010. All of the doctors have been wonderful with our pets. They always share their knowledge and expertise with us to help make decisions about care. The techs are always prompt and caring when we need vaccines and allergy shots. The desk personnel are always friendly and efficient in getting us checked in and out, as well as scheduling future appointments. We also joined the Paw Points program, so we get free wellness exams or lab discounts every once in a while! Highly recommended.yeselpkrimson

Being a client with several furry friends, since 1976, I am pleased to give “paws up” for all the care my pets received through BRVC. It’s been great to watch it grow & adapt to the needs of pets & clients. The novel adoption of the pet laser treatments to treat injuries and arthritis, gave this clinic alternative treatments for the animals. I do not recommend anyone bring their dog to this vet. I've gone several times with my dog, who I believed was just deathly scared of the vet in general, until I went to another vet. Story below: My dog sits anxiously in the corner once we're in the vets room. He isn't aggressive, doesn't snarl, hair doesn't stand up, but it is clear he is uncomfortable and wants to be elsewhere. The professionals at this vet will not even go near him. They say it is for their safety, no matter how reassuring we are that he's extremely gentle with everyone. But, the vet stands no closer than 6-8 ft away, and won't go near him. Not even a gentle pet to say hi! Of course my dog is uncomfortable with you, so am I. The latest time, our 3rd time at this vet after bad experiences trying to get shots (in which they made us give him extensive drowsy medicine), he had a lump under his chin, and the vet wouldn't even look at it. He asked us to show us a picture instead. Then, he gave a diagnosis in which he said that Bear would need to be sedated and go into surgery in order to obtain a sample. They quoted us over $1,100 in total expenses between sedation, surgery, sample, analysis and potential medicine. We decided to get a 2nd opinion at another vet. At the next vet, Bear again sat in the corner. When the vet came in, she immediately greeted him and pet him – you know what normal vets should do to make their dog feel comfortable. After a minute or so, Bear was playing with her and let her lift his chin. She diagnosed the bump as something common among dogs his age and gave us medicine for it – we left this 2nd vet paying a total of $40 for the visit and $24 for the medicine. I'm never going back to West Loop Vet ever again. They're great people, but they've fleeced me out of enough unnecessary medication and medicine after letting me believe my dog wasn't good with other people.Dante Reese

This was our Fist time at Veterinary Care West Loop! I cannot thank Dr. Osborn, and her team enough for the warm welcome feels! From the moment I walked in, and when I left. There was nothing be absolute care for Hero and I. You can just feel it from everyone! I am very happy with the level of care, and information provided to us from our first visit. I also felt very emotional at how well they handled my Pup Hero. He gets Extremely Anxious, Scared, etc. whenever he comes in to see the Doctor. Having Maura, and Dr. Osborn take care of us, was nothing but Amazing. Their level of professionalism and Care was something that I have not experienced yet. I was very moved. Negligence & greed. Took our dog here since we brought him home, so roughly 2.5 years. My dog Kai broke his dew claw, we asked that they have it removed because this was the second time it had broken and we were told that they absolutely would not recommend that at this time. I insisted but was denied over and over again. We moved forward with their recommendation of having the claw cut back so it would "grow back properly." A month later we are back at the vet. They said the cells in the nail were now so damaged that the nail will no longer grow back and now we have to have it removed. So about $900 dollars later we are being informed we need to move forward with another surgery that could have, and should have, already taken place. The staff is kind but clearly leadership/ownership would rather continue to bill you rather than actually install a permanent solution to an issue. If this is the care you find acceptable for your dog, be my guest. I will personally never return.Rob Lee

Do not bring your dog here! My family has been customers of Companion for over 10 years (back when they were called Camp McDonald Animal Hospital) and the experiences we've had here the past few months have been completely unacceptable. -You can never get a hold of anyone at the front desk. If you leave a message, it will not be returned. By chance you do get a hold of a receptionist and give them your message for the vet, they tell you that the vet will call you back, but they never do. I was only ever able to directly speak to a vet once. The receptionists put themselves in the middle by putting you on hold repeatedly in the same conversation so they can relay what you are saying to the vet instead of just letting you speak to them yourself. -They do not have emergency appointments available. Ever. If your dog has an ear infection, canine flu, or is generally feeling unwell, you will be told that the soonest appointment is at least a month out and to take your dog somewhere else. Yep! I was told TWICE by two different receptionists on two different occasions that I'd be better off taking my dog to another vet. So I did. And I was able to get my dog in immediately at other places to be seen. -They have a "do not contact" order with Chewy, so Chewy cannot contact them to verify prescriptions and fill them. This is because Companion wants you to use their pharmacy, but their prices are way higher than their competitors. I have never left a Google review before, but people need to know what's going on at this office. I urge you to take your pets somewhere where their health and wellbeing will be the top priority.Mackenzie

Staff was very polite to owners and thier pets. Staff educated owners on thier pets condition and provided the same education to owners about information regarding prescriptions for your pet. Clinical exam rooms where also very clean. I would highly recommend Companion Animal Hospital. I personally felt during my experience they didn't seek an owners financials like many other vet hospitals/facilities tend to do. Companion Animal Hospital cared more about my pets actual healthcare needs then attempting to add burdensome exams or procedures. I brought my dog for his chronic dermatology issue. When it comes to health and well-being for your pets it's hard to find a vet that you can trust. They are very kind and willing to help and accommodate you as much as they can. Any time I have questions they are pleasant to talk to and get any confusion cleared away. I also enjoy there office set up it's very comfortable and welcoming. I brought my dog in today and they had a sign in her waiting room welcoming her back. The place is very clean and everyone from the front desk to vet assistance and vet are very nice. I can’t thank Dr. Moll and his entire team enough for the unbelievable experience during our puppy’s recent spay procedure. We chose this practice for the unique laporoscopic technique the doctor employs to minimize pain and recovery for our pup. The attentiveness and thoroughness of Dr. Moll exceeded any and all expectations! From the day he met Teddi to the day of the procedure, the care provided to our dog is something a human would envy. The doctor had an appointment to establish the relationship with us and spent at least 30 minutes patiently explaining every nuance. We followed up with detailed bloodwork to ensure anesthesia and procedure would be safe. On the day of the procedure, we were informed of every step and had confidence our baby was in good hands. When she was discharged, the doctor spent another 30 minutes reviewing all the details, from post-surgical expectations to nutritional advice. The technicians and office staff truly cared for the puppy and even followed up with an email the morning after the surgery to ensure Teddi was doing well after the procedure. The minimally invasive laporoscopic technique ensures our dog was literally back to normal the following day… two tiny holes were glued (no big incision, no visible stitches, no cone – just a cute surgical suit recommended by the doctor). By contrast, my sister-in-law took 3 days off from work (+weekend) had to carry her puppy in her arms to relieve her discomfort after a traditional spay. From the financial perspective, the office gave us the range for an estimated procedure cost and ended up charging on the lower end… which further proves that they truly care about animals and their well-being above all. Poor communication and overcharged. I was surprised to see I got changed an extra $100 for an additional test I had no knowledge of and did not approve. They did not give me a receipt after my appointment, I had to email them about it. When I got the receipt and saw the charges, I promptly emailed them asking what these charges were and if there was a test, what were the results?? After speaking to them on the phone, they said they’ll look into it and let me know. No email or call back. We had a follow up vax appointment and I asked about it again. They said there was a test done and could not refund the charges. First time coming here after moving to the area and I will not be coming back. The vaccines were twice as expensive as my past vets (Elmhurst and Roscoe Village, Chicago) and their communication is terrible. If a vet thinks it’s in the animal’s best interest to have an extra test, fine, but that needs to be communicated to the owner along with how much it will cost so that the owner can actually consent to the test (or whatever it may be) or decline it. Especially if it’s not anything urgent or immediately life threatening. Which in my case, it was not. I was 99% sure the bump on my dogs leg was a standard fat lump dogs get as they age and told the vet that. I had believed that was part of the regular checkup by the way he communicated. The only thing he said regarding it was that the dump “seems to be normal” and that I should “still keep an eye on it”. Nothing that suggested a literal test result or findings from the cells sample. Other reviewers have mentioned lack of communication and being over charged as well. Unfortunately, I agree with them and will have to find a different vet in the area.Jennifer Popa

We took our dog to Christensen for >6 months for recurrent ear infections. This vet has an egregious markup (~200%) on their tests/services and they failed to treat the underlying problem. Maybe Christensen can handle routine care, but I’d highly recommend looking elsewhere if your pet has a more complex medical history or needs (most positive reviews here focus on routine care or common procedures). For comparison, we took our dog to another vet and they CURED her ear infection in one visit for around $300. Over the 6 months going to Christensen, we spent over $2,200 and they failed to cure the underlying infection. The same initial visit and battery of tests that this other vet ran, would have cost us over $800 at Christensen — seriously. We’re really disappointed in the level of care our pet received.Ryan Walker
