20 Best Surgical Tech Programs In Detroit, MI (2022 Updated)

I called WCC and attended for 3 semesters. Failed my first class because I didn’t know the difference between on- line and virtual classes. Financial aid denied me and reconnect was going to force me to take 2 classes or four total in a year. I have ADHD and bipolar two disorder. It was either the welcome center or the student advisor office that told me that ADHD was just a medical diagnosis and not a disability. I am a mom of three and a grandmother of a toddler.I have been out of school for over 15 years. I am by no means stupid or unteachable. I am great at what I do and am raising well adjusted tiny humans with an awareness of mental health treatment and general accountability. The schools online program send a message that it is doable for everybody and tailored to fit one’s schedule. I have done drop in tutoring I have called the helpdesk I’ve called every number possible for help. I have spoken to financial aid, I have spoken to success coaches, as well as a counselor affiliated with the schoolMy GPA drop below 2.0 and now I can’t afford to go to school. I was in the paralegal program and I can by no means, not understand the material but I struggle so much with the homework and the amount of things you’re expected to know upon entry into this community college. This school has destroyed hope for my future and nobody seems to know what anyone else is doing. The only reason I passed one class is because Professor Lindsey took the time to show me the things I needed to know. Two other instructors, Refused to even go over the homework in virtual classes. They think because it’s in the schedule they shouldn’t have to talk about it in class. Instructors should talk about anything that makes work unclear to students!! Refusal to go over homework by instructors is the biggest thing that caused my struggle in this institution. If you are a mom or a person with day-to-day responsibilities… think twice and get as much info as you can before entering the school. WCC is not tailored for the working person or the single mother. Apologies for any triteness. Democracy runs well w an educated populace. A few hallmarks of a Democracy are; Quality of Life, Education, Freedoms and the Civil Rights of All. Universal Healthcare, Access, Education and Trades training, why not? If we are able to pay one man millions of dollars, then why not provide for millions of people? How often does corporate welfare, “trickle down” and subsidies to huge corporations translate into savings? Educated, critically thinking humans are one goal and Community Colleges are gateways and answers to improving and increasing Democratic values. How naive, ignorant and misinformed I was as a young adult, to snub and look down on Community Colleges. As the decades passed and the Grace of wisdom was given to me, I began to realize the value of CC. Mistakes made can be the process in which we grow and improve, if those mistakes don’t kill you. Thus, Washtenaw Community College is packed full of the possibilities of enhancing the potentialities, aptitudes and visions, just as any institution of higher learning should be. The key: Higher Learning. Do not disparage the “in-district” resident’s ability to pay $95 a credit hour. Of course, the Big 10, Ivy League and others are prestigious and wonders to behold. Yet talent is talent and at times it all comes out in the wash. We are all in the mosaic of life. An accommodating student center, the Legendary Morris Lawrence w the Auditorium’s name in his honor and the music program still going strong. WCC offers countless resources, references and an ability to improve your life plan. A new career pathway, a hobby, a skill, a language- don’t break an arm or a leg, go into an easy transition, by becoming a WCC student and hold your head high.Chawn Aray

Took Motorcycle Safety: Basic Rider Course Weeknight. The course was very well done with professional instructors and decent equipment. Both classroom (parking garage) and range were excellent venues for the subject matter. The class had full enrollment (12 riders) and instructors provided significant "hands on" individualized training. Some participants (students) were familiar with motorcycles others were First Time riders. Appropriate attention and training was received by all. Great job WCC!Michael Bell

Terrible business. They sold me books that I didnt need for classes. They wouldn't refund me nor buy the books back. MThey sold me a used loose leaf History book and my HIS 109 book was missing pages. when I talked to the lady just now, she wouldn't do anything about it, handed me one of my other books and said they have enough of them right now. She had a terrible attitude when all I showed was respect. I paid over $480 to this bookstore, all I got was disrespect and inconvenience. I will not be purchasing my books or software through the campus bookstore any longer. I've been treated like garbage just for walking through the door.Ross Daugherty

The gym manager is horrendously rude. The rest of the staff is very nice, respectful, and understanding. He doesn’t allow women to wear tank tops but men can work out shirtless. Limited mask usage upon staff, but dare breath for a second and you will get your membership revoked (this happened to me). There is very limited machines and as a senior citizen I felt like I didn’t have any machines I could use. My granddaughters hated this experience when I brought them along. If I could I would give this a negative star rating. I am very disappointed and I would not recommend this facility to anyone who is interested. The building is not very inviting because it is so big, but once you get in and figure out what's where it becomes less intimidating. I graduated here with my associate's degree in Leadership. 60 of my credits transferred from NWTC to Concordia University of Wisconsin. I preferred the video conference classes. My son is currently attending the school. I was a student there back in the early 80's. The campus is very nice. Helpful faculty, variety of courses and majors. Good food choices at the cafeteria and a workout area with plenty of free weights and machines with an attached gymnasium. Lots of nice areas to study both inside and outside.David Klinzing

Excellent place to take a test! I took a certification exam through Pearson Vue at NWTC. The test center employees explained everything thoroughly and the center itself was quiet enough to take my exam. They offer ear plugs as well so you won't be bothered if people enter or leave the room.Phillip Kurimski

My Business Administration Management class was amazing, I learned so much and I am carrying it with everywhere I go. Some people do not like it and so do. My instructor was so brilliant and I am so proud and thankful for him. With his support and all of SJVC workers, instructors, and all around everyone, I was able to get threw this pandemic we are still having and graduate with a 4.0 and being on the deans list. I am thankful for you all. Anyone who wants to go to college for Business or just in general, go to SJVC. They got you covered and they support your every step and decision. I'm in the midst of the program and just love it!! The teachers and staff are fantastic and it feels like they have become my extended family. They care and want you to succeed. They offer many resources to help if you hit a road block. It's a very professional environment and they continue to train you on maintaining professionalism. Attended in 2013 and now again from 2018-2020. Lived in the North Hall dorms so far (the new ones with suites that are a bit expensive) and they're about as pristine of living as you're gonna get in a community college, walking distance to everything. Since limited parking space is arguably NMC's biggest problem in the late 2010's, being able to walk to classes is a huge advantage since parking there is a joke. I told them to build a parking garage. They seriously need one. That said for a community college this is a 5-star place to be, but the dorms people are talking about in negative reviews, The East Hall dorms, really do seem pretty awful judging from the 2 times I've been in there to visit friends. There's also on-campus apartments, for 21+ students. So basically here's how to do housing here: East Hall: if you're 18-20, have no regard for quality living and just want a place to goof around, study a bit, sleep, and munch on snacks between cafeteria meals (cheapest) North Hall: You're 20-29, have a bedroom's worth of stuff, and need a full kitchen w/ a refrigerator to share with 3 others, and would share a nice cleanly bathroom with 1-2 others and would like a nice shared living room area with couches. (usually most expensive option they have) Apartments: If you won't settle for less than regular apartment standards of living, have kids, spouse, etc., or have enough furnishings to fill out multiple rooms (middle cost option, I think) Between having a marine technology school, a stargazing observatory, an audio recording studio, an aviation school, an automotive garage, a music & art building, nursing programs galore, and a brand new "innovation center" going up in the year 2020, this is one of the best community colleges you'll find. If they'd switch to renewable energy like Ohlone College in Fremont, CA (another hidden gem of a community college), I'd rate NMC a *solid* 5 stars, instead of a 4.7 stars that I rounded up to match what's coming in the near future.Connor Louiselle

I have completed four semesters at NMC living off-campus. I knew people who lived in the dorms but I wouldn't recommend them to my friends or family. The dorms closely resemble a prison with white brick walls, shared bathrooms (between 4 students, 2 rooms connected by the bathroom). The prices for these dorms are quite expensive in fall and spring semesters. The teachers for the most part are amazing. They are all (that i learned from) highly intelligent and friendly. Most often they are flexible and considerate. My only problem with some teachers is that in the beginning of the semester at the first class they would often claim "We are trying a new system out, this is the first time and i think it'll work better this way." Now… I don't know what that's supposed to mean but in almost all of these cases it leaves you attending a very unstable class with new and unused materials/processes. These were always extremely weird and complicated situations that made me view the teacher as less professional by the end of the term. They had the knowledge, they just delivered it very clumsily. I maintained above a 3.5 GPA which wasn't too difficult at all. You just had to study and be able to comprehend the class by yourself. You can't really rely on the teacher's new methods or materials because they are pretty much half-baked. My final and most weighted complaint is their prices for tuition/bookstore/cafeteria/dorms. They are literally raping your pockets. As you struggle to even attend school, do NOT plan to buy anything from the cafeteria. Extremely overpriced. The tuition costs are absurd for anyone outside of grand traverse county. I just feel like this school has great teachers whose bosses are after the student loan surge. I love learning but if it comes at these prices, i'ma go at it alone. With free online courses. Who cares that i didn't pay 40k+ for my nice degree. I have certificates that say the exact same thing–for free.Anthony Potrafke

WARNING–DO NOT LIVE ON CAMPUS. No A/C, No refrigerators and if your room is missing something good luck getting a replacement.. You're basically living in a sweat box for months on end. The staff is extremely up tight and obviously have never been anywhere but Traverse City and who hate their lives and have nothing else better to do than to kick people who aren't from the area out. A student was just kicked out of the dorms for a leaky Capri Sun juice pouch that was left unattended in the dorm hallway. Apparently this student will be facing carpet damage repair fees along with not receiving a reimbursement of nights that weren't spent there. Everything you do is on camera, this place is like big brother. You can only enter and exit one way in the dorms so they can watch you every time. Don't plan on driving around the campus at night unless you want to get pulled over by a rent-a-cop and get the 3rd degree on whether or not you live in the facilities no matter how many times you show a room key and ID. After all the harassment from the staff/ security and sleepless sweaty nights spent here I honestly cannot recommend these facilities to anyone looking to get a nice nights sleep, even if you are only staying for a weekend summer course, it's not worth it. Not to mention its $750 per month– this again is no A/C, no fridge, no kitchen, its just your desk, bed and your sweat. For around $600 a month you can live in an apartment, get much better accommodations and have the comforts of sleeping at night with A/C.Daniel Setser

Both my wife and I were returning college students and Stark State Alumni class of 2012. We both received a great education. She went for respiratory therapy and I went for Graphic Design. The graphic design program was wonderful. The professors were all very knowledgeable and really cared about their students (huge shout outs to Michelle Lash and Eugene Starr). The classes are small and it's very easy to schedule time with the professors if you need help or need to go over some things. It's also nice to have online classes if that's your thing. For the younger students (and older alike), Stark State also hooks you up with SALT at no charge after graduation, which is a useful tool to help find employement after graduation. Luckily I furthered my career without having to use SALT. The biggest recommendation I could suggest would be to offer more of certain classes. Sometimes only one class is offered a semester and can conflict with working hours. Thank you, Stark State and to all of my professors for giving me a great education and giving me a fighting chance in the workforce after graduation. For those who are seeking four year degrees and beyond, Stark State is definitely a great (and affordable) place to start.stephen slusny

I attended Stark State College a number of years ago when it was Stark Technical College. I am surprised by the negative reviews, because I had a great experience at the school. I graduate with a degree in Computer Technology, and the courses were challenging and taught me a lot. I still remember some of the great instructors like Mrs. McBride in my math classes. I even worked there part-time for about a year doing LAN Administration. They have provided me with a foundation for a very successful career in IT. I later completed my Bachelor degree at Kent State. I am currently completing my MBA. I was able to get a copy of my transcripts, even after graduating 25 years ago, by faxing in a request. I did this for two different Universities, and they arrived within a week. In this age there should be a way to do it electronically like Kent State, but at least they do not charge you for them. Overall I had an excellent experience and they prepared me for a very rewarding career in Computer Technology. I absolutely have no regrets about this school, and I enjoyed my time there.Kevin Frazier

I can not believe Stark State has less than 4 stars! This is my second semester and I LOVE it! The faculty are truly amazing and extremely helpful! This college also offers small class room sizes which makes learning more personal. Your teachers and professors always do their best to know each student by name. It is also extremely great for working folks who have busy work loads. They have many courses that can virtually work with any type of schedule. There are many success programs that Stark State offers, including assistance with any subject as well as a great Accommodations program for those with any learning disability/disability from minor to severe. Stark State also always keeps their students in the know through text message and emails. They give you the tools you need in order to succeed. Highly recommend this college!elisabeth brian

I recently finished my second Technical degree for Metal Fabrication as a returning student. I delayed going back to school for years for lots of reasons, but mostly because I thought it would be as awful of an experience as High School was. Instead the teachers in my program were excellent. I was always challenged by the projects and supported in my learning in equal measure. If you're looking to get into welding or Metal Fabrication, these programs are career fields that need people, pay well, and you can learn them here! Don't sleep on the trade skills that can be taught here. Go to the open houses, see if these are things you're interested in doing. A 4 year degree isn't The guarantee of employment it used to be, but these one year Technical degrees, leading to in demand fields are.Travis H

Very nice tech college. Almost everyone you come across on campus can point you in the right direction. I just started school today online. But tomorrow I get to go to campus. It's a clean sanitary environment. There is currently some remodeling going on, so part of the building you cannot access… yet! AC was on, felt awesome. temperature didn't change much room to room either. All the employees seem to know their job very well and are willing to help. I chose Madison Area Technical College because I know many people that have graduated and successfully got into a job they wanted. This school is also smaller than UW Madison so I feel like the learning experience is better, more hands on, more participation versus a large school such as UW Madison.Shane Toycen

The good profs here are all just professors moonlighting from UW Madison, I'd honestly say you should apply to and go to literally any other UW system school before here. The quality of education isn't bad- but they somehow managed to misplace finances and put 650 bucks into collections randomly – without mailing me any notifications, and without a notifications on the online portal. You won't get competency from any of the administrative staff, expect 5 week long waits to see a counselor for any sort of urgent need. If you are a student with a disability – make sure you have additional copies of any medical documentation, they will claim to lose it. Most of the education staff despises the administrative staff and yeah, I can see why.Bee

I attended Sullivan for their culinary arts program and I have some insight for future students going into the program. First being, have an idea for what you're wanting to achieve in life. Culinary school is very expensive for what you get and there are other, more cost efficient ways to achieve your goals. I recommend working in the industry for at least two years before you decide to go to culinary school. You will find a lot of well-known chefs didn't graduate culinary school. Everything you are learning in school can be self taught or learned in the industry.The key to becoming a great chef is the understanding of the industry. I say this all because at Sullivan its just a matter of time before you're screwed over by financial aid. The entire department is very disorganized. Important papers of mine seemed to keep going missing in their hands making my life very stressful. Also if you plan on doing on campus housing just DON'T. It is crazy expensive and it is exactly like high school. I loved my time at Sullivan don't get me wrong but is it worth the money you spend, NO.Annah Cecil

I haven't had any problems with Sullivan. I have been here for about 6 months and after attending JCC and UofL I must say Sullivan has already given me a much better experience. JCC and UofL let me (at 18) pick a bunch of random classes that were way too hard and never got back to me about any issues, it took way too long to get in touch with anyone for meetings or questions and at Sullivan they are always a quick phone call or office visit away. Teachers seem to really care and take the time to call you on their off time to congratulate you on good test scores, inquire why you are missing class, or pull you aside in class if you are on the brink or failing or even on the brink of getting an "A". If you don't miss a lot of class there won't be any problems, and there are even students in my classes who are active duty and miss class a lot and teachers have been as accommodating as possible. I can honestly say that transferring to Sullivan University from the University of Louisville was one of the best decisions I ever made. Class sizes are small, so it's easy to ask questions and get help if you need it. The instructor's here aren't just trying to "push you through", they actually care that you learn the material. The food served in the cafeteria is great and all of the staff/personnel are super helpful and friendly. My only complaint however would be the financial planning office. Some of the advisers can be kind of rude and you have to constantly call/send e-mails just to get a response for an appointment, in my experience. It's best to just show-up in person and request a meeting. Other than that, I would highly recommend Sullivan University to potential students.Brea M

I really believe that Michigan Tech is an exceptional school. I am a high school counselor and I visited there as part of one of their counselor visit programs. They have a lot of excellent programs and a student well leave there well prepared for a career. One of the drawbacks is that it’s very far north in the state of Michigan which a lot of students don’t necessarily want to go that far. But if they do want to go that far it’s worth the trip. There’s also a lot of great aspects to the campus like you can ski for free there’s a lot of outdoorsy types of things to do and it’s right on the river.Jacob McLouth

A good University for mechanical engineering for design, manufacturing, IC engines, combustion, thermal, hybrid electric vehicle,etc. I specifically loved the location of the University, it's a beautiful city. For person who like to hang out more, it doesn't have much of things as u will expect from an American city. It also doesn't have any Indian restaurant. I am in my sixth week taking online courses at MATC. I have chosen the IT Support Associate Degree program, for two reasons: One the program is only two years, I’ll be able to launch into the job market faster, and because IT is such a diverse, and fast growing career path, I know I will find a fit into the IT world upon graduation. I chose MATC because MATC is convenient and conventional. I can take classes online, at my own pace, and be on campus for the classes I need more focus and dedication to. This IT program combined with my 10 plus years customer service experience, I know I will be able to reach any career goal I set. Now, while my interest in computers and knack for problem solving I know this career path will be suitable for me, however, to any prospective student looking for a quick money type of career, this program is not for you. This program consists of lots of physical and mental work, also taking consideration of the customers you are serving. If a prospective student welcomes challenges and is comfortable with asking questions and not feeling intimidated by the mass amount of information you will retain then this is a program for you. Prospective students should also be aware that they don’t have to work or figure stuff out alone, one of my favorite accommodations is having access to tutoring, whether online or in person- at all campuses. Fellow future students should also know that acquiring their degree at MATC is a smart money move, students can save thousands of dollars getting their education here, as opposed to a four year college/university. Future students should also know that credits will transfer to a four year college such as MSOE or UWM.Britanni Hildenbrand

Information Technology is very informative program. This program breaks down a lot of things that can happen with computer systems. It is a to-date program. I choose this program because I want to go more in depth with technology. Everyone uses technology every day. I would like to be able to assist those who are not tech savvy. MATC I.T support program has a great path program. Pathway allows you get a few certificates take a break and come back for your diploma. Completing this program will give the knowledge and skill I need to become an I.T professional. Instructors are very helpful. Staff is friendly. My experience in MATC IT Computer Support Specialist program is limited but good so far. I chose to pursue this degree because it lines up well with my current work experience and career goals. So far, I have been able to take all my classes online with no scheduled class times, so I can complete assignments at my own pace without interfering with my work schedule. Another thing this program does well, is that it offers options to achieve many different certifications on your way to a degree. Honestly, should have listened to everyone discrediting this school. Cheaper ain't better. This school has stressed me out and I've only been attending for one semester. They keep changing my aid amount, will not reimburse my refund and all together have made my college experience a nightmare in hell especially with me working full-time. It always something new going on with my financial information for the following semester and new requirements that were completed prior to me attending resurfacing. Who has the time to keep re-ensuring that they're getting the money they already previously accepted? It doesn't matter how early you send your FAFSA in, they will find a way to have it reprocessed so late that you won't recieve the amount you already accepted. Very poor experience, people don't care about the disabled students, they had charged me over $1k for not helping me get into my classes and they've abandoned me in 2010. One star for absolute failure. Edit: 9/14/2022 this so-called trio program from Owens community college isn't helpful not resourceful of how am I supposed to go to college, they sign me up late not knowing I'm missing out on my assignments and these advisors in the school are lazy and rude like they don't care for the disabled students such as myself. Attended Owens and completed an Associates degree in 2001. Returned to a local area 4 year college to complete a Bachelor of Science. Due to the high cost and mediocre experience. I chose to take as many transfer classes as possible at Owens. A full time semester was a fraction of a 4 year college semester. Pretty rigorous course material and most importantly, courses are well structured, you could actually work ahead following the syllabus. Students and staff are pleasant. Have my 4 year degree, and returning to Owens for certificate programs to fill in the gaps from said 4 year college curriculum.Brent A.

My husband was on the nursing wait list for ten years. He is a veteran and a hard worker. He was told the RN wait list was 2-3 years by Sue Helmer. The professors goals are to make students repeat classes for monetary gain. This is what happened to my husband and several of his classmates. Failure is encouraged at this school. Students teach themshelves. My husband have retaken most of his classes because some of his teachers could not find proof of his final grades. Also the office lost his important paper work. He was marked down for failing the classes, and had to retake them over. Cora Beute, and Michelle Richter refused to look into their system, and marked him absent for classes when he was present. The financial aid department charged him twice for many of his classes.The administration took advantage of him having auto pay for classes. He was overcharged several of times. One thing after the next. My husband is now attending Grand Valley University. He had to retake more than seven classes over because some of GRCC classes are not transferable. A bunch of time wasted. My husband regret going to GRCC. I will recommend anyone to run from this scum of a place.护士Diane

Admission staff isn't very helpful. I'm being told on the FAFSA and by others if you live alone you do not have to fill out the parent information field just to call up here and have them tell me that's not the case. I'm in my twenties with my own place. Not seventeen just getting out of HS. I graduated five years ago so why do I need parent info? This is the latest addition though to a list of complaints. Just finally annoyed enough to leave a review. I've been considering for the last few years going to school and I have not committed yet due to personal circumstances. But every time I do seriously set my sights on it I find myself frustrated with the people I end up speaking with. Only giving two stars because I'm hopeful that my experience with the education side of things will be a lot better than all the tedious steps you have to do just get in and get assistance.A. My short experience has been good here. Although parking can be a mess, and often times people's card will not allow them to leave (it lets them in though) and the person on the telecom won't let them out, they want them to back up (when there's 20 cars bumper to bumper in line waiting to leave) and come inside. Or they can pay 4x the regular amount via credit card and then they'll be able to leave right then and there. Unnecessary hassle, a joke considering they're getting thousands of dollars every DAY simply from parking fees alone. Should attend common sensical decency meeting once a year.Patrcia Clemons

For the best experience, you must be proactive and you must advocate your goals and you must explore where you want to go. Tuition is reasonable and scholarships can be abundant. The ideal setup, depending on one’s circumstances, is to start here and use Lansing Community College to get to the next destination, whether it is a sought employer or university. I strongly recommend networking and using all available resources to find and develop a constructive resonance with potential instructors. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. There are countless people and support services ready to help people of all backgrounds and needs. There have been many notable infrastructure investments and student life improvements for activities and events. Of course, parking can be a bit of a trick sometimes, but carpooling or finding alternative nearby locations can reduce expenses. Make sure to apply for FAFSA as soon as possible for prime planning. By going here first and developing a strong core foundation, one can also save a lot of money rather than paying higher prices for comparable education elsewhere. Also, Lansing Community College develops strategic partnerships with many higher learning institutions and even hosts the joint University Center at the downtown location. I went to the Livingston campus right out of high school. I had great professors and loved my classes for the first few semesters, then everything started to fall apart. The front desk staff was rude, they weren’t consistent with their information and I almost lost my financial aid because they gave me the wrong information. Then a semester or two before I left, I took an online business class that was so all over the place I had to call the professors office and tell her that the due dates were off on the schedule, and then she argued with me without even looking at the schedule. Once she did she realized the dates were wrong and she changed them. But she must have been bothered by my call because I aced every assignment in that class and ended it with a 4.0, but she must’ve docked that after final grades went out because on my transcript I noticed it said that I ended with a 3.5, which I know wasn’t true. Now I have no proof and can’t change it didn’t because I didn’t notice it until after the semester was over. Very aggravating.Kaitlyn

Some of the teachers at Lansing community college are awesome! However, I am not impressed with the community college as a whole. One of the reasons being I feel their classes require you jump through a lot of more hoops that I have encountered while attending any university. For example, they require a lot of placement tests, which I did not encounter while attending Ferris State University. Also the graduation rate is very low!alexis timmons

Great place to get a technical degree, certificate, or diploma. Education geared towards getting the student into the workforce with the skills they need to succeed in an efficient way. This school doesn't even deserve 1 star but that was the only option. My son has been denied into this school 2 years in a row even as a student! Last year he couldn't get in even after going through all the tests because the program closed. This year he applied as a student but wanted more if he could get more. I found out he doesn't qualify for a student because he graduates in May so we were told to apply for another program. He applied for another program going through a 2nd interview only to not get into a program once again!!! It is very disappointing because when someone wants to learn and told they can't it can discourage that child. We now are now forced to look elsewhere. I don't think he will apply here again because being denied twice…..it just shows you are not as invested in young adults learning as you say. Educating students that trade school is the way to go only just to shut the door in their face is extremely unprofessional. Not everyone wants to attend college but what do you do when college and tech schools are both not an option?waleta morgan

I just got finished with my basic motorcycling course through MNTC and i’m posting this on behalf of the warehouse and the school itself. I had some riding experience but this class has helped sharpen my skills as a rider. It was a long 20 hour weekend but our instructor, Dennis Phillips, made sure to make the best out of it and taught the class extremely well. I was more than satisfied with how Dennis instructed and ran the class. Shout out to his wife for also giving us pointers. The bikes provided for the course were very nice and easy to learn on. this also was the cheapest course I’ve found around for a level one bike course, take it here! Dennis will take care of you. I don’t write a lot of reviews but really wanted to make sure everyone knows Dennis is the best instructor in the area, will keep everyone safe and have some fun while learning! I had a little bit of confusion in the beginning of signing up with my asbestos refresher course. Two ladies named Bobbi & franc ( so sorry if I spelled the names wrong) We’re just the mouse to help for ladies I have ever talk to in my life on the phone. They were very informational very supportive very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I felt like they went out of their way to help me and I am so satisfied with my purchase of classes at this school. Every year for my refresher course I drive down from Eufaula Oklahoma to take my refresher, I love the teacher I love the faculty I just don’t think they’re a better school!!! Had applied to this school for the MRI Program. Paid all the fees for application, transcripts, etc. Took the entrance exams and passed. Received my classes/schedule and sent them my fafsa. I had been registered for my classes already. I did an interview, the person that interviewed me was not professional, believe her name was Danielle Dertz. When trying to answer questions, i was cut off constantly and put down. Then right when everything was set and done for me to start the course, they give me a call that they do not want me as a student. My time was wasted, as well as money. They thought that I was not a good fit for the program because it is "too stressful". Previously, I was a full time student as well as a full time employee and received my degree from a different school with good grades, so I was stunned at this claim. They based this claim off of a previous job I had quit which had no relation to the MRI program itself. Instead of giving me a chance, when i expressed my interest and drive for the school i was shut down. Really disappointed in how i was treated as a student in the pandemic wanting to further my education Reply to response: The fact that you guys based your decision of my admittance on a job I worked over a year ago is disappointing. Both careers are very different from one another, so it’s sad that it is assumed that I wouldn’t be able to handle the program. My grades and achievements proved otherwise, but that was completely overlooked. I noticed with other reviews that many students had issues with the interview process as well. One would think after so many complaints something would be done about it but i guess not. As a student wanting to further their education, being discouraged because of a decision made, once again, over a year ago, was very disappointing. CNA is not the same as MRI. Many things change after over a year. The way I was put down by the Program Director was very upsetting and unprofessional. And I had also received a full schedule for the program. All of my classes were listed. You guys had waited to tell me that I was no longer accepted, hence my time being wasted. Instead of telling me right after the interview, you guys had waited. Midwestern Career College is a phenomenal institution! The staff, students and alumni are some of the most driven and intelligent people I have ever met. I originally met Mary Schmidt in 2018 and was fortunate to form a great business relationship after attending a career fair at the Chicago campus. While I originally attended this career fair strictly looking for Medical Assistants to hire, Mary educated me on the Externship Program that the institution offers. Mary was so kind to visit various UroPartners locations to further discuss this program with our Practice Managers. After many introductory visits, UroPartners started placing externs last year. We have now placed six MA externs and three of those individuals are full time employees who are still with the company today! In addition to that, our surgery center is now also participating in this program as they have started placing Surgical Technologists externs onsite. It has been amazing to watch this program grow and I look forward to all the future success Midwestern Career College and UroPartners will form together.Yasmine Lozano

I’m currently a student enrolled in the EKG program and I’ve really appreciated the take on online education. We have an in person class once a week that really brings the class together and elaborates on key points. The facilities are really nice, the class I’m in is in their downtown building, and I have an outstanding opportunity to learn about my field. The class sizes are not big so there’s always opportunities to ask questions and clarify for my own sake. The teachers are very helpful and are more than willing to go the extra mile for their students which is amazing because you just won’t always get that at a bigger school. All in all I’ve really enjoyed my time at at Midwest career college and will be recommending this course of study for any of my friends or family looking to get an education in any of the many fields that MCC has to offer!!Michael Goubine

My husband and son are here this morning for a written driving test. Everyone here has greeted us, asked us if we need assistance, and has been thoroughly helpful. Even when we walked into the door to a common area, random people greeted us and asked if we needed help. I am extremely pleased and impressed, and I am honestly looking at their course catalog now. I have looked for 20 minutes trying to find information on medication aide class and I couldn't find anything. I called up here and they told me to get online and go here and there to find it. I already did that this is why I called. All I wanted was the price and hours and I still have no idea but she could have just told me on the phone instead of explaining which tabs to click on. I would not recommend this school. There wasn’t any heat in our classrooms the entire winter. Students had to bring their own heaters and we only could plug up 2 with out blowing out the circuit. (They also have a heating and cooling program ) There still isn’t any soap in the cafeteria. Some one put water in an old soap dispenser, and over 100 students share that. The ST (Surgical technician) instructor is rude and unprofessional. I have documents, videos and dates of her yelling at me, cursing, threatening me and no one did anything to her. Actually, when I tried to report her, it actually got worse. I’m not the only one from this school…. or other schools who said the same exact thing. The man from financial aide will call, email and text you several times a day when you have to make a payment. The reviews are fake/ from employees themselves. Abcott Institute is a great place to help you with a career in the medical field. Abcott also have other areas to advance your career. The instructors are Helpful and encouraging. The Surgical Tech. Program with Mrs.Miller is great, she a firm and knowledgeable instructor. Working in the medical field especially the OR is no game, you are dealing with people lives!! The course is tough, at one point I wasn't so sure if I could finish. I talk to my instructor, made sure I studied more and did what I had to do to improve myself. Mrs.Miller firm but she care for her students and supports them wholeheartedly, you just have to do your part as well. This is not something everyone could do you have to be dedicated!!!Michiko Unu

Just focus and get what you need to get out of there. It’s a lot of foolery going in this school program not accredited and make sure when you pay for you certification test and pass get your money back because they will not mention it if you don’t and it’s included in your tuition. This school is the biggest waste of money and time I’ve ever seen. I signed up for an online phlebotomy course because in my situation that was the easiest for me to complete a certification. The online course of filled with errors and was completely disorganized because it wasn’t clear what information I should even pay attention to. The disorganization of course was a hassle in itself and on top of that I was expected to complete my draws from an outside source so the school didn’t even provide me with volunteers to do my draws. Given the current climate of the corona pandemic and with shutdowns and increased health risks, it was difficult to find an outside source that would teach me how to draw blood. I then decided to switch to the in person course because I was told I’d be able to complete my draws at the school. This was a blatant lie because I was still expected to bring in family and friends for blood draws instead of the drawing on classmates. This was impossible because family members were constantly busy with work or school and could not go completely out of their way to take time off or ensure a negative covid test. All I did was waste a bunch of money only to learn nothing and not gain any sort of certification or phlebotomy skills. I tried to get an externship. Which if you go through the school you have to pay for. Doctor offices, clinics and urgent cares wouldn't even look my way once I told them the name of the school. It’s completely unfair that students are expected to find their own externship and volunteers to do training on. So now here I am a year later, looking for schools again.. Just please everyone do yourself a favor and stay far away from this "school". Learn from my mistake don't go here unless you like wasting money.Zeinab Hazime

I’m currently in the phlebotomy class, and I have to be honest and say I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m grateful to be in the course, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like I could have looked up the same info on YouTube or Google and learned more. In fact that’s what I’ve mostly done, followed the guides they’ve given and research the information myself. I also ordered a test prep book for phlebotomy & that’s been more helpful. The videos are unorganized, old, hard to follow, and not straightforward. The instructor goes over a lot of unnecessary info mixed in with the info you need, which is challenging. The medical terminology video instead of preparing the PowerPoint then going over it, she makes the presentation as she goes. It takes about 2 hours to go over what should be 45 minutes if information. If you’re a visual learner like me, this isn’t the course for you. Mostly it’s lecturing on a frozen screen that has nothing to do with the context of the video. It’s very affordable & go at your own pace which is great, but you do kinda just get what you pay for in this course!Claire Maria

I used to work as a general labor worker for a long time, but now I am pursuing my dream because I am working as a Medical Assistant with such a great team and great Doctor. All the staff in Phlebotomy career Training /Garden City are great. They are very knowledgeable in their field. In addition they are so friendly & helpful with the students.
