I went to the campus that is located in Beaverton and they are a building off site of the campus but have a Transit center right directly across from the campus making it very convenient for anyone that would like to take that versus driving and paying parking however the parking was free for me that day the campus grounds are very clean and I felt safe by the security and overall feel. there was not a lot of people at all as they are being very very careful with restrictions on covid. I attended a class for testing on the GED and they were very careful to not expose or compromise anyone's health so be prepared and warned now to be current on their covid restrictions and policiesHeather Chick Hawes

It was such a beautiful day I had gone to Sheridan's Market. Which, I have to say, is one of the best places I've found in Portland since moving here 8 years ago. I decided to go and sit under the trees in the Park blocks. I read the first chapter of "The Body Keeps the Score" with the work book. If you know someone or you yourself suffer from PTSD. It is an amazing read and helps so much. Dogs were roaming though the park with their owners. Runners everywhere. Just overall an amazing day.Bradley Renfeldt-King

Graduated from here. If you’re looking to be competitive, def would not recommend the psych BS/BA program unless you’re ready to find off-campus opportunities. The instructors are variable, with limited on-campus opportunities compares to places like OSU/UO/WSU/UW. However, if you’re looking to transfer and complete your coursework and get your degree, this option is fine.Michael Demi

TIS is unique in the Portland area for having 3 immersion languages and IBPYP. In fact, it is one of a handful of immersion private schools in the US to offer PYP. The teachers in the languages are all native speakers, so our child has been exposed to several different cultures and dialects and her Spanish is so authentic that native speakers are surprised to learn she lives with two non-speakers. The academics are excellent, with teachers emphasizing STEM through projects and interactive education. Their commitment to diversity and inclusion is important, although limited by Portland demographics, and the Learner Profiles and teachers emphasize cultural diversity through the units of inquiry, field trips, guest speakers and homework assignments. As an institution TIS impresses me most with it commitment to visibility and communication. When a new situation or problem arises, the administration does not ignore it or pretend to have all the answers; they acknowledge the issue, gather information and seek the opinion of parents, and formulate a response that accommodates the faculty, parents, community and serves TIS' values.Rebecca Legg

We loved having our children go to TIS. The small class sizes in the Japanese Track allowed for a great teacher to child ratio. Their confidence level was off the charts after taking their Capstone trip during their last year. After 5th grade they moved into the Portland Public Schools Japanese magnet program and excelled both in the junior and high school programs. Our eldest is now a freshman at Lewis & Clark majoring in chemistry with a minor in Japanese. Our youngest, a junior at Grant HS is thinking of attending college in Japan. We are forever grateful for The International School for not only teaching them how to speak the Japanese language fluently, but for also instilling in them the confidence to succeed in today's world.Tonya Jones

As long the Math curricula is based on the Chinese and Singapore systems (which produce the #1 and #2 ranked students in Math in the world), you will not find a school in the area that teaches more advanced Math to K-5 students. By the time our daughter finished 4th grade, the gifted Chinese teachers at TIS had gotten her all the way past what is normally taught in the 5th grade in the US. This became readily apparent when, at the beginning of 5th grade, the class was switched over to Eureka Math's 5th grade curriculum which happens to align with the US common core (which produces students ranked #28). The entire class became completely bored with math and were thankfully switched back.W. Feng

I'd be very wary with this school. They don't pay the teachers for their full work. Instead ONLY pay them for the time they're with students and none of the prep. I don't know how this is legal, but it's robbing the students of an adequate education, and exploiting the teachers hard work. High turn over rate. The place is poorly run and managed. I am the parent of a student. I am very disappointed in the graduation venue they chose for these students who have worked so hard. First off everyone is talking through the ceremony, the sound system horrible, and awful old school auditorium. How disrespectful to the students to provide such a venue. I went to the Nursing program here after being CNA for several years, attending the program and getting licensed was the best decision I have ever made. The professors and instructors were very supportive. Really, really poor institution on many levels. Dealt with a lot of like-minded xenophobic ignorant individuals for an extremely expensive price tag in a liberal arts environment. Had a professor who said N**ger in class multiple times, dealt with tone policing and student rights violations by the administration and student life crew who would tell you "you can't say that." (but racial slurs in art are OK…) Students even believe the school is abusive, but, for some reason they stay. They told me to my face I had to be 'careful' how i talked about the school by student life– so I've been very careful to write a review of my experiences everywhere I can go. Reputation cannot be falsified, although they're trying very very hard. Go to a local CC to get a better quality education than here for a lot cheaper and to avoid the headache. The print shop is non functional with uneven inking surfaces, illustration techniques being taught are sub-par and are not in touch with the current job market. They said they're grouping up with wacom to get experimental product, where is it? they say they pay for students to go to SGCI, registration has passed. When i withdrew from the next semesters worth of courses, the registrar attempted to have me sign a sheet that would have had me to withdraw within the last week of the semester (with wonderful bolds and underlines from the very professional registrar) , although i was finishing out that semesters courses. It would've failed me, and altered their retention statistics. It would have made financial aid difficult for me to receive, as they would notify them i withdrew, but my last transcript would be full of F's. I do very much appreciate the letters I've been receiving even now at my family address, i just wish they would leave me alone. it's getting a little odd. I owe them no money, have no obligation to them, but I'm getting letters telling me they understand that I'm not returning, but, i should make an appointment with my student advisor asap… i urge every prospective individual to get in touch with the CHEA, and department of education to get full statistics, graduation success numbers, to read every past student run blog, review, and negative news story. They're mostly accurate to my opinion and belief. Where there's smoke, there's fire, trust your gut and stay far away. Honestly if they attempt to pursue me for writing this review, I can't wait to fight for my rights to openly discuss my experiences through my freedoms.Alana Fletcher

Do not go here. On top of firing all their best staff with barley any real info on it, the rest of the good teachers resigned…. wonder why. Every semester they email me saying I owe them money when I don't and every semester I have to go through a panic attack dealing with emailing back and fourth until it is cleared up. Many of my friends have to do the same and a lot of people who left pnca are still getting told they owe them more money. The school pulls you in saying because theyre small you will get personalized care and that you will have easy access and be apart of the decision making process which is fully a lie. Pnca doesnt help you get or find any work at all either i tried many times to meet with their career services and got “stood up”. UPDATE BELOW ORIGINAL REVIEW: Paid for a semester in full, withdrew in time to receive 10% of Payment back. Instead, received a bill for $3.5k. Updating this to say: Several other students I know personally, who withdrew from PNCA, had this exact experience. Only when their parents called and threatened to take legal action did they cough up the 10% (or more) back. I tried calling several times and left several messages trying to set up an appointment with the financial office to meet and get my money back, but they never got back to me. I compared the date of withdrawal on the bill to the date of withdrawal on my paperwork, and the financial staff adjusted it so that it looked like I withdrew too late to receive money back. I liked my time at the P.A.M. They are hosting the Diego Rivera and Frita exhibit which made the entrance fee worth it alone. Had wonderful paintings and intimate photos of their lives. The museum is larger than it appears from outside and I comfortably got through it in about an hour and forty five minutes. Seating and restrooms with a nice gift shop on the end. School groups can make the rooms loud along with the creaky wooden floors but overall a pleasant experience. I would give it a recommend while in Portland as long as it has a major exhibit going on. Portland Art Museum is a nice museum houses good collection of works related to American Art, European Art, Chinese Art, and sculptures from Asia, China. The Art works displayed are very beautiful. The paintings of last decades/centuries are superb. Native American Art is also very beautiful. Museum Store has collection of Arts and Crafts. One can buy collectors items as a memory of the visit to museum. Overall a very good experience. Visited on

I need to stop my affiliation with the School of Business (there’s about a $500 fee every term) as I have taken on a new major. The ONLY WAY to cancel is to call them. Yet they don’t answer their phones or call back! It’s been days and multiple voicemails have been left, it’s unacceptable not to hear back, especially as a student paying good money to be apart of this institution. A lot of it (business schooling) is done through Connect, which has numerous issues that you will have to email the professor about. My accounting professor posts to the Dashboard often about hiccups in the Connect system and to “email her if we get that question.” You will waste your time on this elaborate spreadsheet for there to be a glitch in the system. I miss Clackamas Community College, it is honestly much better in terms of faculty availability for their students. Now I pay heaps more in tuition fees yet get less in return than I would at a community college for FREE. Not an excited new student to PSU so far. Or the school of business. Pretty bummed about it because I was excited as a kid on Christmas morning about attending university.hanini panini

My son has been attending the class for some time and he is really excited to try the techniques at home. I like the part that kids do not feel overwhelmed and they get to draw their favorite pictures too using the techniques teachers teach. In this pandemic time too, I see how well the class is maintained and all the precautions are adhered to. That made me feel safe in sending my son for in-person classes. My 7 year old started attending the summer camp / spring camp at Art World School from 2 years ago and has been enjoying it so much. She brings home multiple art projects everyday, from oil paintings, water color, to crafts like bracelet or clays. Every week there is a theme and kids get to exposed to different kind of arts. The instructors are very professional and friendly. The full day camp runs from 9-6 which is very friendly to working parents. Highly recommended to school age kids who love arts!Penny Chen

My 5-year old daughter routinely goes to weekend morning group art classes and occasionally no-school day camps, and she enjoys them! The instructors are knowledgeable and have good ability to keep the kids interest and maintain a peaceful and educational environment. The online scheduling system is easy to use. The first time I walked into Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, I was nervous because it was my first time studying a martial art. Since I was a kid, I wanted to learn self-defense skills. After doing some research online, I discovered a general consensus that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was one of the most effective self-defense systems on the planet, so I decided to give it a shot! When I fist walked into the school, I was nervous because the room was full of guys who looked like they were professional cage fighters, but Aaron—the school's owner—instantly made me feel welcome with some friendly chit chat and personal instruction. Although I mistakenly came to the advanced class, I soon realized the rest of the students were just as friendly. I got paired up with Mack, a blue belt student, who patiently and painstakingly walked me through the basics. I've been hooked ever since. The instructors—shout out to Rueben—are incredible, the atmosphere is friendly, and the workout is second to none! I can't recommend Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu highly enough! Give a shot. I've been training at Renzo Gracie Portland for five years and it has been one of the best experiences of my life. I should have written this review a long time ago. Coach Aaron is an amazing practitioner and teacher of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with deep connections at the highest level of the game, and also a great guy. Every other instructor I have encountered here has also been great. This is the best place to start training thanks to a welcoming atmosphere, BJJ101 classes, and many large classes at a variety of times throughout the week. If you already have some skills you will find bunches of colored belts here seemingly 24/7. Also, the last time I checked this was the only school in town where you don't have to sign a contract to train, so you have nothing to lose besides the blood flow to your brain. I have had the privilege to train with some world class instructors and Aaron sits right at the top of the list. He legitimately makes me want to move to Portland just to train with him everyday. I have started a new life. So far Yogi classes are smooth as going with at easy and other classes are very to extreme complex but great workout. I love different varieties classes for different pace form you can take. I'm getting very addictive and it's very flexible hours around my graveyard shift. It's fantastic enjoying many different varieties classes I can take as many possible at different time shift. I sometimes take two classes in one day or three when I'm in the mood very spontaneous challenge myself to do more. Amazing ‼️‼️ I'm doing great even I don't know what I'm doing. My therapist has encouraged me for over a year now to explore the benefits yoga can do for me. I believe like most people, I was very nervous to go to my first yoga class in fear of being the 'odd ball' in the class but I have to say, from the very beginning this studio has made the experience very enjoyable and not stressful at all. Two of my kids have worked with Eric over the years, and we have had great success. Every kid is different and I feel like Eric heard what I felt the needs were for them, individually, and created a plan to work for each of them. I have one child who is very academically motivated and when she had her first stumble in a class, is when I first found Eric and Emergent Education. He helped her gain back her confidence and get through that rough patch. She is now on scholarship at Vassar College. Our second experience with my younger child, was to help with gaps I was seeing during COVID online school- for fourth and fifth grade. She is not as motivated and enjoys a much more casual approach to school (😬) however she does pretty well with her grades. Or maybe it’s actually Eric’s help that keeps her in the good grade category! She has needed so much help with organization and juggling multiple classes upon beginning middle school, and Eric’s sessions once a week are a life saver. Some of his help comes in the form of, I have kids who don’t love to listen to me micromanage school, and are much more receptive to his style. I love Eric as a person and trust him very much. I reached out to Emergent Education at the start of the school year looking for support for my two kids. They had a tough time staying engaged with distance learning and they weren't feeling great about diving back into in-person learning in middle and high school). Our 2 (6th and 8th grade) kids started attending a much more rigorous school curriculum this year and after 2 years of schooling with Covid interruptions, we wanted to make sure we gave them the tools to succeed. We reached out to Emergent Tutoring and we are so glad we did. They listened to our concerns with the kids academics and made sure to find us a tutor that would fit the kids needs and their unique personalities. If you like to dance you want to check this place out! I've been taking Brazilian Zouk classes at VMAC for the last 3 years, and even though things had to slow down during COVID the studio found safe ways to keep the community alive and now it's coming back stronger than ever. I truly cannot express what VMAC has meant to me, having a community and a physical activity and an outlet for creative expression has probably saved my sanity more than once in the last few years! The instructors and staff are passionate and motivating and go above and beyond to create the best experiences for students. They've got regular monthly classes, practicas, open level classes, socials, and workshops where they often bring in traveling instructors. There's a few performance teams too! Or you can rent the space and host your own practice/class/performance/party. It really feels like no matter how casual or serious you want to be about dance, VMAC will probably have an option for you, and I couldn't recommend them enough!Mary Maguire

Organized, good quality of teachers, and they have regular dance events. I've been going here for classes for over a year. I really enjoy the classes — the instructors have us rotate partners, high five each other, and there's always a fun atmosphere. I look forward to my classes. I also took a bunch of private lessons with Deblin to help me get over the beginner's hell of leading in dance, and it was a great investment, as I was finally able to freestyle dance with a random person for 3+ minutes afterwards. Aside from classes, there's 1-off workshops and they throw social dance events. Vitalidad is a beautiful venue to host your wedding! Deblin was very helpful from start to finish. All communication was prompt. When we booked, tables and chairs were included in the overall price. Since it's a dance studio, the dance floor was great! The best in Portland. If you have a large guest list (we had 168 guests with 20 tables), you'll have to move tables and chairs to create the dance floor. Train tracks are right next to the venue so keep that in mind as it may interrupt your ceremony (it did for our's but our officiant was a pro and handled it well). You can use outside vendors and there's no noise ordinance so we had music going past 11 pm.A.H. Platon

She has spent decades teaching her art and connects with each and every student with so much care. One of the best, most clear, most enjoyable lessons I have been to in months! Rachel is knowledgeable, energetic, warm and very helpful! We showed up the Saturday night social with a lesson in Country Two Step, something we had not tried before, and walked away feeling very comfortable dancing a whole song. She made the rhythm, feel and technique of the dance very accessible and showed us the ropes in just an hour! Rachel would be a great teacher for dancers at any level! My son has been taking drum lessons with John for 5-6 years and he loves every minute of his music making experience with John. He has a fun and varied way of teaching music which never gets staid or boring. He is an excellent all-round musician which allows him to create a jam-style environment for the student, so that they feel like they are performing and can freely express themselves without feeling self-conscious about making mistakes. Silvia, My daughter absolutely loved her 1st class. She came over to me 3 times and said "this is fun!" I also wanted to tell you that I think the way you teach this class is absolutely amazing. I don't often get to sit and watch anymore, but after a year (for anyone reading this review, we have another daughter who has been in this program for over a year) I'm still impressed! You're one of the most welcoming people I've ever met, (which has been passed down to all of the senior students and black belts – I'm super impressed by the teenage black belts in particular), and the way you can make new students feel at home, let the students have fun and express themselves, and then be able to silence that room with a single word is truly remarkable. I went to this beginner self defense class a little unexpected of what was going to go on during the class and how I would feel have afterwards. It turned out that the class was amazing, our instructor Silvia was even more amazing as well as the group of women I was with in the duration of the class. We learned so much valuable information to use in every day life that keeps use aware and alert plus some techniques that could help in a more serious situation. Felt comfortable the whole time in all the exercises from the verbal to the physical portions. I would love to move onto the next class with Silvia, she made me feel completely comfortable the whole class. You can tell Silvia really loves what she does and I believe that really makes the class the reason why it’s so amazing. Our daughter attended summer camp last year, and she fell in love with Naga. She's been training since the fall, and often tells my husband and I that it feels like her second family. She has become more confident and assertive, has taken on leadership roles with younger students, and has learned so much about physical and mental strength and well-being. Our son joined Little Monkeys about a month or so after his sister started training, and he leaps out of bed every Saturday to get to the studio. He loves Silvia and Jeff, and as an educator myself, I'm impressed at how they handle a roomful of high energy kiddos! This is a wonderful professional family. My 6 year old actor attended his first class today. He gave Coach Nina a hard time, complete with emotional outbursts, and she still came out smiling and loving him. She clearly treated him well in private too because he couldn't give her enough hugs. On the way home he was talking about the exercises and class structure. My daughter Elena has been a student at acting. for kids for almost a year and she loves it here!! It has helped her grow in every aspect and she has fun. My husband and I have been sending our 2 children to Oregon Hope Chinese School for preschool so we have known the main teacher, Min Kong, for a very long time. She has become like an extended family to us. Our eldest daughter attended her first preschool here when she was 3. She was not the most easy going kid and I still remember she was a bit cautious going to school for the first time. Ms. Kong was very patient and understanding and helped her (and us, the parents) ease into the transition. Now is our youngest son's turn to enter preschool. He too was a bit cautious for the first few months but both of them gradually love spending time at school. They made good friends, learned a ton of Chinese (which is our main reason for choosing the school), learned discipline, respect, but also having fun. When I pick both kids up from school, they all have smiles on their faces. I still remember with my daughter, she actually begged me to stay longer so she can play more with her friends. The school has a good-sized playground filled with many play structures. I love their small student:teacher ratio so everyone gets enough attention in class. Ms. Kong creates a monthly theme for the kids, for example this month they are learning about the Solar System, the previous months they were learning Modes of Transportation, Weather, Life at Farm. They also learn and celebrate Chinese and American Holidays: Chinese New Year, Mooncake Festival, Thanksgiving, Christmas. They would bring home really nice art projects and I would collect them as keepsakes. All teachers speak to them fully in Chinese Mandarin so they can pick up the language faster. All in all, my husband and I are very happy to have found a good and safe Chinese Immersion preschool for our kids. We highly recommend this place to any parent 🙂Cynthia Teoh

Our family has been enrolled at Oregon Hope Chinese school since 2017. Min and her small, play-based, mix-aged preschool have been a great fit for both of my kids. This home-based preschool is located next to a public playground and green space that the kids frequently visit and explore with their teachers when the weather is nice. The school itself also has a large fenced outdoor space with covered areas for the kids to play. Each month there is a new theme/subject that the students learn about and discuss during their daily morning circle time. They have weekly arts and craft projects they bring home. The kids get structured learning time, but also a lot of opportunities for free play. Min used to arrange for school performances at Asian Festivals and during the holidays, but that hasn’t happened this past year due to Covid. The older students have daily Mandarin (reading and writing) lessons when the younger kids, who still need naps, do so. The mixed age set up at the school encourages learning and respect amongst the students. My kids love all of their teachers at the school, including their online Saturday Mandarin school teacher, whom they have yet to meet in person because of covid restrictions. The teachers at this school are all experienced and they care for their students. They invest time and energy to each individual child to help them overcome their own set of challenges. This school has helped my kids learn a second language, while building confidence and allowing them to grow academically and socially. We are happy to have found OHCS.My Tran

This school was seriously a huge blessing! We were scrambling to find a daycare/preschool that would fit what we were looking for due to my wife going back to work and somehow we found this place! seriously a gift! Our little one was in a previous day care where the workers were on their phones and it was literally a daycare, dirty and grimy and just no learning/development happening. Here at Oregon Hope Chinese school, my little one is actually in school! she is learning songs, learning about specific topics, spelling, letters and even now writing characters in manderin! She is learning new things everyday and on top of that its a pure immersion mandarin program. The teachers are amazing, very warm and caring and truly vested into these children's lives, so much that they come to birthday parties and special events! We highly recommend this school if you are looking for a place to know that your child is learning and developing and in a secure place where you know the teachers actually care about what your child is learning and preparing them for Kindergarten and beyond. Our little one is in her 2nd year here and definitely will miss this place! The plus side is that they have summer school here so we'll definitely putting her here during the summer! My daughter loves this place, i ask her everyday, what were your highs and lows and she always every day says "All Highs"! She is happy, she is growing Thank God we found this place! The energy in this place is amazing! The students are genuinely engaged and excited to learn. This is thanks to the authentic enthusiasm expressed by the instructors and admin staff. You can tell that everyone that walks through the doors of this martial arts academy want to be there and love the environment. They offer camps for the off days that keep the children excited for the next day! My son always has a good time and feels safe with the staff. It helps that they keep his energy up while he’s there, so he can sleep peacefully throughout the night. Aim High has truly been a blessing to my son and I. They are the best!Mary Lewis

My 2 elementary kids attended spring break camp at aim high and loved it! They have requested that I sign them up for summer camp. The 1st day I dropped them off at summer camp, they were greeted very warmly and by name (although 4 months later)! Based on what I've heard from my kids, there's no dull moment. Activities are packed to keep them active and entertained all day long. My kids like the martial art sessions the most. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they try their best to accommodate all the kids' needs. I would definitely recommend.Nancy

Where do I begin? Aim High has exceeded our expectations time and time again. The staff is absolutely incredible. Teacher Randall, Teacher John, Teacher Miriam and Teacher Sam are so wonderful with kids! They get the class to focus while having fun at the same time. Aim High teaches focus and discipline. It teaches confidence and speaking up for yourself. I believe what is taught at Aim High should be taught in every single school. I recommend Aim High to every parent I meet. The spicy Indian curry wasn’t the only thing that was hot in this cooking class. If you googled best looking Chef, you would see a photo of Chef Jacob. If I were you I would bring a ring with you to the next cooking class so you can propose and lock that down. He’s also super fun loving, has awesome jokes, and is a great instructor. The recipes he teaches are so simple that I will make use them to meal prep. With every bite I plan on daydreaming about what our life would’ve been like together on our dream farm. Took this cooking class with my boyfriend on a whim and had so much fun. Did the thai pumpkin curry class with chef Alec and it was so good! chef Jacob was also there and there with so much great information. We bought 5 classes and are looking forward to take the rest of our classes! Your pitches for classes can help fund Classes people who can’t afford them, really bringing to life their motto of empowering people through food. My team did a Mediterranean cooking class with Chef Jacob and it was a blast! We learned how less is more when it comes to cooking simple, delicious dishes. It was a great team building exercise to self-organize around the different jobs (chopping, kneading, grilling, etc.) and come together as a team to create an amazing meal. We asked tons of questions about ingredients and techniques and it is clear Chef Jacob is knowledgable and highly passionate about his work. Wonderful experience!Laura Howley
