A good school where you get out what you put in. Many trains stop within walking distance and buses as well. Just like any college, depending on your major, you will find good and bad professors. So always make use of the rate my professor website. I had a very pleasant experience. The administration was more competent than other schools I went to and my issues were always solved within a reasonable amount of time. The facilities I had to use for my major were in even better condition compared to some four year schools. The wifi coverage was good. Plenty of cafeterias with the best one being in the E building. Plenty of food trucks with different types of foods. Lots of seating areas with electrical ports. The class scheduling was workable with enough sections to fit almost everyone. Can't speak for any other major but it felt like that overall. They are always hiring new adjuncts so it's not the same professor teaching that one section you need all the time that everyone says is horrible. Always stay on top of your things if you want to have them resolved quickly. That's the part you play in your college years. The hand holding stops after High School. All I can say is, relax a little and have some fun. At the end of the day grades won't show the strength of your character after all is said and done.Mounia B

It seems like professors like the one I got Professor Arnold who acts likes she is going through the motions and don't there . i felt I waste my time and money which I paid out of pocket in her class and is thinking about leaving the college. She is one of the worst teachers/professors i ever had . I think cause it a community college a lot of them are mad cause they can't teach in a four year college through out of the community colleges in NY LaGuardia is the best . That being said she is the third professors that I had that sleeps walks through their class and I had another one that did something that weren't cool and I didn't show up for her class and never got an apology from her. I say if you over 30 years like me this college is not for you. Im currently in my last year at LaGuardia (majoring in business) and i have to say the Business department is full of AMAZING professors. Classes are really easy (most of them except accounting unless you're good at it) and the students are cool. I, personally, never talked to anyone or made any friends because I'm not an outgoing person. The school is constantly going under renovations and they just finished the new library and it looks AMAZING, as if it was a library from an ivy league. Food isn't that great but what do you expect, its school food [not free of course]. The only reason ppl go here and are willing to grossly pay for an education is the location. I went to school here and will say it is far overpriced for the education you are given. Some staff are great and really care about the education they are providing. Others just read off a powerpoint and have no interest except for a paycheck. Pace is expensive, doesn't help the students getting internships and when the students get one on their own, Pace takes the credit. After graduating, the students don't get a job. One of their alumni just got a good job and due to she owes money, they don't give her transcripts and are retaining her title. Is not possible for Pace to help when the students really need help? This is a good school. However, the quality is almost identical to the CUNY school I attended before coming here that costed significantly less. Additionally, the lack of diversity (granted, because of how this is a private school) is also lacking. PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE APPLYING TO THIS SCHOOL I attended the biology program as a transfer student and it was the worst mistake of my life. Marymount Manhattan puts up this facade that their small class size sets them apart from any other college in the city. Let me be clear: this school has more downfalls than advantages. This school requires their students to take general education courses as a freshman and then again at junior and senior levels. I was a biology major taking dance, film and painting during my junior year. Just another ploy to make more money. I was told by an advisor that I would have to graduate a year late to take one single class in spring semester that was only offered every other year. If a class is mandatory for graduation, it should be offered every year. The shortage of staff to teach classes sets an automatic disadvantage for students. How can they expect a student to return to one of the most expensive cities in the world to take one single class? The adjunct faculty is laughable. I took a painting class and had to buy everything out of pocket. I do not come from money as most students at this school and was told by my professor that my brushes were "too cheap". The courses from this college are impossible to transfer as they are considered a joke at even community colleges. As a freshman my friend failed her first biology exam. Normal, not everyone is able to adjust to a college style exam right away. She immediately went to see her professor about improving her grade and she was told to change her major and her aspirations to go into medicine over her first ever college exam. Is that pushing your students to be successful? Maybe the BFA programs are better, but I have only heard negative aspects about them as well. The majority of my anatomy class was failing and nothing was done by the staff to improve lessons regardless of the countless complaints by students. The graduation rate is laughable. The advisor and bursar offices are laughable. They are quick to take your money for a transcript but never send it out. There is so much more to say about this college but it cannot be done in a single review. Please do your due diligence before committing to this school. I transferred here from a big state school and after taking a gap year. As a marketing major in a primarily performing arts focused school, I sometimes feel like not enough attention is given to the business department, but the small class sizes and very focused attention given to each student in the school makes Marymount, in my eyes, a very great institution. This school has been very good to me and I have met a lot of awesome people and am currently working with the career offices to secure an awesome internship for the summer. The individualized attention that each student gets here is only awarded to this who strive for it, and unfortunately there students at Marymount who don't really try and attempt to get over on the faculty because its a private school. I received three evening robo-fundraising calls within a week that began with the robo-caller saying not to worry, they were just calling to see how my child is enjoying the school. After that, it became a fundraising pitch. If they want to see how my child is doing, they can ask my child. Three calls, all in the evening, within one week, and with a deceptive script. Marymount Manhattan may be a fine school, but their fundraising tactics are sleazy, and the first one alarmed me a great deal.John McGary

With a respectable teacher-to-student ratio, significant public and private funding, and a central location in New York City, the learning experience has been covered by many publications and studied by experts. However, BMCC also suffers from a large rise in remedial education, lack of freshman retention, and overcrowding. Due to its larger base of capital compared to most other two-year colleges, expansion of new campuses during the rebuilding of Fiterman Hall was possible. Several trailers are still used as classrooms to this day in order to help expand capacity. Internal programs have also been created or expanded to help with academic advisement, provide online access for registration, transferring to other colleges, and job placement. A diverse student base, some of whom had immigrated to America shortly before enrolling, also makes tailoring a viable solution difficult. edit, update: ended up coming to the conclusion that because all of this uncertanty and my bad living situation I am dropping out, I did all I could, was not met halfway by anone but professors unless I begged here. do not go here if you're poor. Just, no. I can't take it anymore. I've tried to explain my situation to this school multiple times, and I'm left to struggle on my own. I am starving, housing insecure, financially unstable, and unable to make ot to class or properly study because of financial struggle, inability to be alone a place quiet to study because they won't house, and depression. In the end they want to fail you out so you can pay them fees later, I guarantee. I'lll gladly take my review down if it's actually a thing they decide they really want to help me with, only after I have been actually helped, and not as in, money grant to help my situation I never recieve, or new housing program email I apply for and am swiftly rejected because I am not enrolled just enough just yet due to circumstances that are once again not entirely my fault because when I applied here I intended to be taking 16 credits not 7. Very diverse. You can see all kind of people over here. Most of the students and staff are friendly. Environment is good. Friendly neighborhood. If you are hungry, you can find all types of food around the building. It has 26000 student. It also has a big cafeteria, big library, big quiet study place for study and a lot more . From the moment I was accepted to a few months later, it’s been nothing but miscommunication, incorrect information, and confirming false details left and right. Name any kind of detail, and they’ve gotten it wrong. Name any kind of procedural, logistical, student experience piece, and there’s conflicting information. The “right hand doesn’t talk to the left” saying doesn’t even begin to describe how dysfunctional this place already is, and classes haven’t even started. When you’re about to go into $120,000+ debt for the rest of your life you’d at least expect the “student success advisor” not to demean you at every turn, or for at least one person to confirm details that are actually true. If you’re considering applying here, go absolutely anywhere else and spare yourself the unbelievably unnecessary headaches and stress. I took the 1-year online screenwriting course. In theory it sounded perfect for me, since I wasn't in a position to go to school full-time. I had high hopes. On the positive side, I did learn the basic principles of screenwriting. Also, I finished a first draft of a film script, which was pretty cool. The discipline of meeting weekly to report on my progress helped me achieve my goal. I wish my review could end there, on a positive note. But on the negative side, I found the instructor extremely rude to anyone who didn't agree with their opinions 100%. The person often ridiculed students and dismissed their contributions. The surly attitude shut down conversation more than once. I have a Masters degree, and have been a student in several schools as an adult – and I have encountered only a few instructors as abrasive as this person. (That's saying a lot, considering how arrogant many professors are!) Also, the instructor was late to class more than once. To be fair, the person did make it up, by extending the classroom time. Still, when you've arranged for child-care, it's a drag to sit and wait in front of your computer, while your instructor fumbles around, making half-baked excuses why they were late. I have kids at home who play the same tricks in an attempt to evade their responsibilities, I don't need my screenwriting instructor doing the same! Worse yet, the instructor once shared personal information about their family of origin that was unnecessary to the classroom context. (We paid a hefty tuition fee to learn screenwriting skills, not to hear sad facts about this person's childhood. Hey, we all have a few sad memories about childhood! Get over it! An online classroom is not the place for a paid instructor to share personal memories). I would have been more sympathetic to their plight if they had been a nice human being from the beginning. They weren't nice, so I'm not sympathetic. Finally, the instructor went back on a promise they had made to me during a classroom session. Another student hadn't come to the online class, and we were scheduled to read their script. So I volunteered to submit my rough draft – with the understanding that I could re-submit my script once it was finished, for another classroom review. The instructor agreed to those terms – but went back on their agreement a few weeks later. When I questioned the instructor about it, my concern was dismissed. So, I copied the transcribed conversation in which the instructor made the promise. They replied that they were way too busy to give each student individual attention! (Then why make the promise in the first place?). My poor rating is entirely based on the habitually unprofessional conduct of the instructor. The actual course content was very, very good. Had someone else – with a good work ethic, a sense of punctuality, and a commitment to personal and professional integrity – taught the course, then I would have given NYFA a perfect score. So, although I'm indebted to NYFA for helping me acquire basic screenwriting skills, and giving me the opportunity to complete a rough draft, I found the personal conduct of the instructor a very serious obstacle to the learning experience. My suggestion to anyone who wants to enroll in an online screenwriting course: – Make sure the educational institution has a professional code of conduct – Make sure the school holds their instructors to that code If you can't afford the cost of tuition: – Buy a good book on screenwriting. It will give you the exact same info about skills that this course provided, at a fraction of the cost – Enroll in a writing class at your local community center, where you can find like-minded people who will hold you accountable as you write your next project -Keep writing! Don't give up. After a number of years, I continue to uphold my opinion of the school.Robert Widdowson

The (limited) number of students that actually care is the only reason this school gets 2 stars. I attended the Masters Cinematography program in Los Angeles, and I am here to tell you that for that program- I can't speak to the others with as much in depth knowledge- the school is a joke, and serves to print money for itself. I was to attend for two accelerated semesters, and during the first, I found work doing what I was going to school to study and basically checked out mentally. When time came for my second semester, I had done very little for my classes, and went to our instructor to tell him I was leaving. The part that confused me was when he said that I was one of the best students in class, which made me laugh, as I had been working on set for the proceeding two months, hadn't attended class, or screened any projects for the class. I pointed out these facts to him, went to the bursers office with my story, and within 5 minutes I was holding a check for 40 thousand dollars: a complete refund of my tuition for both the previous semester, and the upcoming semester. My question is this: if they don't know they are scamming all their pupils, why were they so eager to hand over so much money and bid me farewell? Seems like an admission of guilt, and an effort (which admittedly worked) to prevent me from commenting on my experience. All you need to do is look at the top 5 most common jobs for degree holders from NYFA. The most common is elementary school teacher. The rate of alumni body working in thier field of study is a jawdropping .008%. Yea. Not worth it. Do yourself a favor, and watch all the films on AFI 100 greatest films list, then learn how blender and composition work, buy yourself a camera, and make a film.Nick Frazier

Did a filmmaking workshop. Loved some teachers and learned a lot, but the administration its just been awful. Since my first day. When I arrived due to a ridiculous covid protocol that I haven't been informed, I couldn't attend my first day of classes. I lost many hours and they just left me outside the door even though I crossed the world to get to nyc. And now, I finished the workshop four months ago and still haven't get my diploma. I keep writing to them but nothing gets done and it just keeps wasting my time. Even with full-time work for the duration of full-time study, it was easier than where my Bachelor of Arts was from: Binghamton. Long story short, the Public and nonprofits sector didn't want me; but, made some successes in the Corporate world in Banking, Insurance, followed by Investment Brokerage. My point ? I am Tracy Thomas Williams of the Class of '75, Franklin House. Someones earlier posting complained of school fees. I have never once regretted the monies spent by my paternal grandparents to put me through Dwight (Or any other private school since Pre-K for that matter) How much did they pay? Full price which is the same as todays cost in inflation adjusted dollars. No scholarship or financial aid, either. Dr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Williams, Ph.d., were prominent both professionally and socially. My grandfather took over management of the family business which was the Phenix Color and Dye Company at 284 Pearl Street. He was an analytical chemist who both won awards for his inventions and prospered financially. So they could afford Top Tier Schools like Dwight for me. It was money well spent. The school reinforced our family beliefs about defying the odds against success by way of excellence at something for which one has a talent. Dwightonians are currently celebrating 140 years of a remarkable history. It is a history tenanted by some of the most highlighted names of the past two centuries. It has been said of the 20th century that it was shaped by Dwightonians. It is Chancellor Spahn's ambition that the same shall be said of the 21st. Pursuant to this he has been developing a new leadership class forged in the crucible of his own remarkable personality. It is cosmopolitan yet parochial, meritocratic but humanitarian. As notable as the school's career has been in the 19th – 20th centuries under Dr. Spahn's 21st century leadership growth has been logorithmic in comparison. Recently an outside management consulting group suggested that this growth may be impeded by Dr. Spahn's hands – on leadership. I disagree. This makes as much sense as alleging that Apple's share value had been hindered by Steve Jobs's presence! A private school is run by force of character not by committee. Thats why no two private schools are the same in spirit. Fiercely independent in its thinking, the independent school achieves a societal impact disproportionate to its small size. Hello. I am Pasha Solonin. I have been to four different schools so far and I must say that Dwight is a really good school for a few reasons. I spent a full academic year at Dwight ( 2015-2016)and I enjoyed being in the school. Back then I was in seventh grade. Dwight offers great education in subjects like English, Social Studies, Math and Science. I remember that in English I’ve read novels such as The Tempest, Lord of the Flies, and The Outsiders. I learned about symbolism in the novels I’ve read. Dwight was a very welcoming school. This school has a great counselor who helped me solve the problems whenever I encountered them. There is only one concern I have for Dwight and that is the use of their QUEST program.In early November, my parents received an email where the QUEST program was offered to help me in areas where I needed help. My parents never gave a proper answer of yes or no. A few days later I was forced to go into the QUEST program against my own will and the will of my parents. QUEST program attempted to offer me support where I simply didn’t need it. That is the only reason why I hated the program. My parents later on revealed to me the price of the program which was as expensive as a year spent at Dwight. As days passed by the QUEST program was removed from my schedule, but it remained in school since then. I got worried about other students who might also fall into this trap. The QUEST program was used like a loot box in EAs (Electronic Arts) most disappointing video game, Star Wars Battlefront II. Another words the QUEST program was used in a greedy way. I am hoping that one day this program will either be removed, or becomes beneficial to students and helps them whenever they need help in understanding certain topics. I hope this explains all my thoughts on Dwight. I still think that it is a good school when it comes to its atmosphere and its fantastic education.Pasha Solonin

Choosing Dwight Global is definitely one of the best decisions in my life. I joined Dwight Global when I was turning into a senior. The faculty of Dwight Global cares about every individual student. With a small class size, teachers are able to assist you in every aspect when you need help. Teachers always respond to my questions promptly and provide detailed explanation. What I cherish the most from Dwight Global is not only its rigorous academics, but also the close and warm community that the students and faculty build up altogether. There are multiple engaging and interesting activities held for students and faculty to participate so that we get to meet up with each other! This Gym is a true landmark of what makes New York City great and is something truly impressive that any New Yorker should be proud of! The view(s) from within this facility are awe inspiring and calming after a long Day and the equipment and facilities offered by this Gym are welcoming and supportive of any level of Health and Wellness from improvement of health and conditioning to advanced Athletic development. I'm looking to recertify as a Personal Trainer with NASM and pray to one Day be a functional part of this amazing Athletic facility! I couldn't ask for more from a 'Gym' and can't wait to be back in the concrete jungle and pushing a sled around this amazing heaven on Earth! 🙂 I do wonder: Is Training on an endurance bicycle allowed on your indoor Track and if so is that at certain time(s)? Our son enjoyed his summer camp but the after-care was sad and disappointing. Kids are place in a room with a large loud TV and literally nothing else to do — no board games, puzzles, or building materials — despite the clear presence of tables for activities. Whether I arrived at 4:30pm or 5:30pm, the kids all looked like zombies all facing the same wall with bored expressions on their faces. The staff monitoring sitting by the door did not engage with the kids. My son LOVES movies but begged me to pick him up early after the first day. If you are planning to send your kids to summer camp, consider skipping the depressing after-care.Anonymous

This place is really cool, really fun. I was invited to the driving range today. Got to whack some balls. The tee sets the ball itself, I just swung over and over again. Even felt myself improving over the 2 hour period. Overlooking the Hudson, laughing and enjoying the easy vibes. Felt like a nice getaway even though I was still in the heart of the city. My kid took a teen class, and I just found out a teacher (older women/went to Yale drama) pulled him and his partner from the stage after he fumbled a line/stuttered and said he was unprepared and disappointing. He prepared weeks with this script only to never get to show it. She mocked him in front of the whole class and said he would never make it in the industry. I just found out about this. Safe to say, he will not be going back, and I urge anyone who has kids to not to allow them to attend any class here.Joane white

The center for Archirecture was a very nice place. Unfortunately one of the employee was very rude and disrespectful and the rest was no where to be found. I had never been in an establishment where there wasn't any associates around to assist me if I needed any help (bottom floor). I saw some supplies down the stairs and thought they were available for everyone to use. My daughter and I started to grab some to start building. After I waited for about 10 minutes waiting to see if anyone would come to give assistance. NO ONE CAME. A few minutes later a group of kids came down the stairs. I simple tried to explain to the employee that I was looking for someone to see if they would help us but I could not find anyone. He started getting his attitude. Told me to put the supplies back and that I would have to leave. WE WHERE THERE FIRST! he could have easily just said he would move us to the back and when we where finish we could leave quietly. I really wish someone was there to tell us we couldn't use it before me and my daughter started grabbing things. Could have saved me a huge embarrassment in front of the class. Overall my 3 year old daughter had a good time and he did suggest that they have family event for building on Saturday( that is why I bumped it up to three stars)Shanique Nicholas

This place was pretty awesome, even though it was small — Right now they are featuring a lot of beautiful buildings and scapes that are in Asian countries. They also had a lot of explanations in the text descriptions of each "artwork" to discuss why these buildings were made like how they are. The place may be interesting, but the way guests are treated is outrageous. During the tour, I had to constantly make room for the service gentleman who, regardless of anything else, covered the exposition with tables (he had previously hidden the most important model of the entire exhibition), then I could not go to one wall because an hour before closing the same gentleman began to ostentatiously wash the floor and told me not to enter because it's wet. Finally, I found out that the toilets are closed (even though the same guy left one of them a moment earlier). I don't understand a bit how you can carry out your mission in such an arrogant way.Mikołaj Gomółka

I have been here several times since I moved to New York and it's a wonderful place. Take a close look at some of the work on the outside of the building as well as the inside. You'll notice some interesting things. Oddly, enough I've never taken the official tour although I've heard from friends that it's quite impressive. Be ready to walk though. It's a frequently used event space and yet somehow spots in it still feel quite sacred and sacrosanct rather than secular. If you look in the corners, you'll see little Tom otterness figures like you'll find hidden away in other spots around the city like the 14th Street A train station in downtown near the Irish Hunger Memorial. Everyone will tell you it's a must see for the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi but you also don't want to miss All Souls Day here. There's usually some construction going on somewhere there but I guess that's a good thing. I'm going to give it 5 stars because I don't know whether Jesus will be happy if I give it 4 just because it's a little hyper secular and crowded with construction at times. I stopped by here for a quick visit. The admission was $5 during the construction (although They have been having constructions for a while now). The church was large and majestic, it has caused a lot of arts displayed In the nave and other parts of the church. You can also peek to see the High altar (closed during construction), the different smaller chapels, baptismal fount, and the columbarium. They do provide PPE for those who don’t have any (mask was required in July 2022). There is a small gift shop as well. Eucharist daily (?) at noon ish. Other than that, be sure to visit the large statue outside the church in the park next door. Despite all the constructions and the mess, it is still a good place to reflect and relax. Truly a beautiful and sacred space. Well worth a visit! We arrived when there was a guide at the welcome desk and she showed us around the 7 chapels dedicated to different immigrant groups. They were all very lovely and thoughtfully designed. The scope of this cathedral is massive. It is one of the largest cathedrals in the world. It was built in stages so there are several architectural styles represented. They do have guided tours including one that takes you upstairs to the towers. I believe there are stories about Bank Street which other parents, potential parents and even students should be aware. I was a parent at the school for 10yrs and was involved in various school activities. At one time I was on the Director of Diversity’s (DoD) Parent Advisory Board (PAB). This was a group of parents organized the school year after the The Post wrote a less than flattering article concerning the then DoD in July 2016. Prior and during various meetings of the PAB, the new DoD provided information to be used as a guide to think about being more inclusive of differing views: “The Dangers of Echo Chambers on Campus” by Nicholas Kristof and a YouTube video of Obama’s farewell address from Chicago. Both the article and the speech talk about the dangers of retreating into our selective bubbles especially in our neighborhoods and learning institutions. “..we become so secure in our bubbles that we accept only information, whether true or not, that fits our opinions, instead of basing our opinions on the evidence that’s out there.” Obama said. Great article and a great speech but just words. Bank Street doesn’t stand behind those words and doesn’t stand with people who do. When you want to truly help people, you tell them the truth but if you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear. At one of the PAB meetings, the philosophies of Dr. Thomas Sowell, Harvard Grad (magna cum laude), MS Columbia and PhD Univ. Chicago and Jason Riley, Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal were introduced. The introduction was greeted with “We know those philosophies and we reject them; we reject them” by one of the parents. I doubt he really did. It would seem that the words from all the articles above were simply dismissed by a group of primarily whites “rejecting” the works of these influential black men simply because their writings did not fit the School's narrative. I can not understand people who say that minorities should be represented more broadly yet become irrational and repressive when a person of color represents a view differing from their own. I contacted Mr. Riley and he agreed to speak at the school and I even offered to pay his fee. At first, the DoD and the Dean offered to approve the engagement with the stipulation of a “balanced dais”. I asked both the Dean and the DoD if they'd be on the other side to which they declined and offered no recommendations. Funny how the two people who push the racial agenda were not confident enough to defend their curriculum to that of a well-educated, well-researched black man. How do you market yourself as a teacher of critical thinking while suppressing differing, well-researched views? Even the idea of inviting Mr. Riley to speak at the school was ultimately rejected after other parents petitioned against his speaking. The mob, which Nicholas Kristof had written, won. Separately, after the NY Post article, several families who were thought to be possible contributors to the write-up were ostracized and verbally chastised by some members of the community. I never understood why Bank Street’s administrative staff didn’t stand up to support those being mistreated. Although they talk of community, they left those parents, some of whom had been at the school for years, to fend for themselves against the mob. I never got the chance to ask the Dean how he felt when he found out that some parents from the School’s Parents of Kids of Color group petitioned against his hiring simply because of the color of his skin. They wrote a letter to the Hiring Committee to petition for one applicant over the other specifically because of race. What would have been the reaction if a group of parents had racially profiled a non-white? I also found the school weak in languages, sciences and athletics. All this after paying over $500k in after-tax tuition plus tutoring (which you will need) and donations for your child to attend K-8. There's more, but I'm limited in space.Slinks

Our party (a 6th birthday party) was so great, thanks to Child's Play NY! They made our party fun for the kids and so smooth for the adults. Our party team arrived on time, jumped into playing with the fifteen kindergarteners right away, and created a custom (Paw Patrol theme) "emergency" for the kids to solve using their imaginations. Best of all–they did this without supplies…so there was no waste and no cleanup…AMAZING!!!! The kids had a great, great time. From my experience, the entire process was personal, simple, and seamless. I appreciated the personal phone call in the beginning (it gave me confidence that the Child's Play NY team really cared!) and then appreciated the simple and informative communication during the week. I received one email confirmation and then one email with details: how to tip, what to know, phone numbers of staff, confirmation of time…and that's it! It was all of the essentials and nothing else. So simple, effective, and fun. All I did for the party was order pizza and cupcakes…and it was great!!!Lauren Park

Our daughter (age 3.5) attended Animal Adventure Week this summer and we could not be more thrilled. This week we watched as our daughter's imagination was further ignited and each day she came home telling us how amazing camp was excited for the next day. The staff was incredible, attentive and respectful of our policies for safety during these crazy Covid times. They kept us informed daily of everything that was done in camp so that at dinner we could ask our daughter questions about her day. She loved camp so much that she makes us do all the activities over again at home. Thank you for a wonderful week and I'm sure there will be many more Child's Play adventures in our future.Brooke Meredith

Child's Play just hosted my daughter's bday party in prospect park and it was a huge success. Highly recommend, especially if you are looking for a covid-safe kids party. They tailored the activities around her interests (in this case Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson), but all of the kids had a blast. And, even better, the party required nothing of me. The kids showed up and were whisked away to a patch of grass to play improv games until cupcake. All kids and teachers were masked, and it felt great to be able to celebrate safely. This was my first serious acting class that I took and it met my every expectations and beyond. Is it easy? No. Is it challenging? Yes. But I believe we learn & grow the most when situations are difficult or challenging. I wanted a glimpse of what it meant to be a true artist as an actor and the summer intensive at MFS certainly delivered that. I am going to say that Charlie is not a teacher for everyone. He makes that very clear and it's up to the individual to know for themselves whether they want to learn from a person like Charlie. Personally for me I need an instructor like Charlie. I need someone to push me to places where I am afraid to go as an actor. And while sometimes it was frustrating & scary, those small breakthroughs that happens makes it worth it. The summer intensive allowed me to certainly learn more about myself as a person. Hopefully I can learn and further strengthen my foundation as an actor when I continue to learn the Meisner technique.Paul K.

The Maggie Flanigan Studio reintroduced acting as an art form for me. During my time here I learned the meaning of truly being. Doing the hard work while attending this studio was the artistic challenge I have been seeking. And having had time to digest some of the teachings I’ve never felt so confident as an artist. I will also say that the close connections I made with my classmates also contributed to the learning experience, everyone was serious and ready to learn, ready to play, and ready to act. Charlie is the type of instructor that will tell you what acting is when he sees it; conversely, he will also tell you what acting is not when he sees it. As a student it is important to know the distinction and invaluable to hear when you are not acting. Charlie teaches you how to respect the truth by always telling it. Charlie, Karen, and Cherry are the absolute best. I've taken many classes in NY, since moving here three years ago. Nothing has been quite like the six week summer intensive at Maggie Flanigan studio. There is an energy the that the instructors bring to the place that is professional, safe, and filled with lots of heart and dedication. Each class brings you closer to taking yourself seriously as actor. The words, "home for the serious actor," fully encompass what it means to learn at the Maggie Flanigan studio. I feel changed as an artist, more confident, and inspired to dig deeper into the training. This is not a fun class to take in your free time. This is a class that will shed some light on what it means to live truthfully in the moment and to be prepared for a life long career. I'm very thankful that I decided to jump in.Christopher Ellis

As an acting student, I loved it! Working with the student filmmakers was a great experience and really taught me a lot. The headshots that the student photographers took of the actors were also very great. SOCAPA definitely taught me some tips that I still use all the time. I will say however, that the acting classes weren’t what I was expecting, they weren’t exactly what was advertised as far as working with techniques goes. The activities were also a little unorganized but overall I recommend.sofia panek

SOCAPA NYC is a terrific program. My daughter loved every minute of her three-week core acting program. She learned so much about acting and filmmaking, and she got to work with exceptionally talented, motivated, creative teachers and students in a supportive atmosphere. I had a fantastic time at socapa photography boot camp! We explored all the great sights in new york city, we went to the botanical gardens, photographed the brooklyn bridge at night, and had great adventures at coney island. I made great friends and memories, that I will remember for years to come!Elle

I just wanted to take this opportunity to share my thoughts and experience from my recent virtual cooking class with Home Cooking New York. I must admit that I was somewhat suspect and skeptical of the outcome of this experience. Having attended in-person classes in the past, I was unsure how this experience would translate in a virtual environment. I scheduled the cooking class for my niece and I. She had a strong desire to learn how to make dumplings and I thought it would be a great bonding adventure. We had a great time and my niece truly loved the experience. Our fantastic experience could not have happened without acknowledging the help and talent of a great Chef/Instructor. We were fortunate enough to have Chef Susan Streit Sherman as our Instructor. She always had a sunny disposition, had patience of a saint and worked very well with my niece. My niece has not stopped talking about her experience. The real test came when the fruits of our labor quickly disappeared and there was not a trace of a dumpling to be had or found. Thank you again for providing an experience and memory of a lifetime.Eric S

Overall this is a somewhat mediocre cooking class for the price and current competition. I went to the Thai cooking session with my wife where we learned to make a soup, rice, curry, and fish dish. It was enjoyable but I wouldn’t go back. I think the biggest problem with Home Cooking’s setup is that they physically don’t have the resources to allow each student to do any hot cooking. There is only one electric portable burner at the table (which only the instructor uses) and the sole hands-on experience you get is cutting vegetables or preparing ingredients. The rest of the time you spend listening and watching the instructor cook. That’s really it. The instructor was knowledgeable but I didn’t feel like I learned too much more than what I would’ve by watching videos or reading recipes. The food “we” made was good, except for the fish dish which my wife and I actually did not enjoy. In the end I can’t really recommend this class given the high price, and that there are now many cooking class options available in NYC.Colin Valentini

We had such a great time cooking and learning with Susan. She allowed us to curate a menu that was personal to us and also challenging. It was awesome to get background into certain techniques that are critical to the dish's success. While it was a fast moving class, if we fell behind at any point, Susan was right there to answer questions or pick up the slack for us! After the food was ready and Susan had left, my fiancée and I were grinning about how good our food looked and tasted. All in all, a great way to have a special night at home.Adam Rosenzweig
