20 Best Summer Programs In Indianapolis, IN (2022 Updated)

Please do not attend this school for it's transition to teaching graduate program. The professors did not prepare for their classes and provided low quality education to the point that I could not justify continuing with this program after paying in over $4,000. When attempting to get them to appeal the final $800 for the semester I left the program they simply refused to give any leeway or acknowledge and error on their part and sent me collections with an additional $350 fee. With no recourse beyond their own appeals process that unsurprisingly found no problem on their end, all I can do is complain on their review boards. On the plus side, the do have a beautiful campus and I can not in anyway speak to the quality of their undergraduate program.Daniel Gore

While well established as a great Franciscan university, Marian remains up-and-coming in terms of their MAT program for teachers. I had a wonderful experience in terms of the contacts made and networks formed while attending. However, much remains to be done to increase the rigor and requirements for that particular degree. Still, Marian University will soon open the second medical school in the State of Indiana. They are also adding a seemingly much finer tuned doctoral education leadership program.Tim Lankford

Here visiting for a campus tour with my daughter. So far what we have seen is amazing. Marian University is a great place. The buildings are contemporary except for a few historical sites that were preserved. Other than that, it appears to be a great place. The people were friendly as we visited as well. In the interest of giving a credible review, I'll be blunt about this university. I've attended this university for years and I can't find any glaring flaws; and I've approached it rather cynically. I would recommend this school for anyone looking to cut back on the mindless posturing often associated with law school as the faculty and staff here are more interested in discussing the issues and material than upholding some nonsensical image. This institution has graduated multiple U.S. Vice Presidents, yet doesn't carry any smugness or arrogance that one might expect. The students here are some of the brightest people I've met, but don't attempt to cut each other's throats to get ahead. Overall, I find this university to be an environment which is incredibly conducive to learning. I've tried very hard to find some major issues with this law school, but they simply don't exist from my perspective. If you're considering this school, go visit. Appallingly narrow-minded faculty and student body. To offer a blanket characterization of either students or faculty as "brilliant" would be an overstatement, although there are pockets of serious academic accomplishment. Class discussions are okay until you challenge the legitimacy of law and policy rooted in religious dogma, or half-baked conservatism. A challenging and well-regarded law school, McKinney has everything I need and more. I never felt like "just a number," as some other reviewers here, and virtually every professor could meet with me any time I needed. Also, MANY practitioners and legislators in Indianapolis went to McKinney, so the connections one can make here are invaluable.Stephen Reen

I have a 4-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl who had the best time here today! We were coming to town, 5 and a half hours away, for a food show with our kids in Indianapolis. We did that and planned a day trip. We spent 6 hours there, and we could have stayed to closing if we weren't trying to travel closer to home. There is so much to do inside and out. My husband, who hates these kinds of things, spent hours in the sports experience with our kids. I cannot recommend this place enough. Even the guy in the parking garage was incredibly helpful and friendly. We stayed at the Drury Inn in Carmel, which was about 18 minutes away, which provides a free breakfast and dinner(5:30pm- 7:30pm)AND 3 complimentary drinks, which was refreshing!Heather Alferman

By far one of the best childrens museums we’ve visited, and we’ve visited quite a few of them. Even with several interactive sites being closed, we were engaged all 5+ hours we were there. It’s a curious kids paradise and there’s so much to learn. My kiddo is 8 and she had a great time. We never got to check out the Riley sports area. Oh. Parking is free!!! And there’s a skywalk between the garage and the museum so you don’t get wet if you go on a rainy day like we did, and no safety concerns about crossing the street.Bee Lola

I took my 9 year old and 5 year old and we stayed from open to close and still had things we didn't get to do. The outside sports area is amazing. They had so much fun they wanted to return the following day. Parking was free, food was a little pricey but was as expected. You can bring your own inside the dining area. Spent a fun afternoon in the Indiana History Museum before watching a movie at the IMAX. The bottom floor had a number of interesting fossil and animal exhibits while higher floors contained more recent human history. I particularly liked learning about the stone carvers in Bedford and all the geological dig sites in the state. Fun place to explore for a couple of hours. You can spend a whole day here and not run out of things to do! Plenty of family friendly exhibits. Great for kids. A variety of exhibits from mastodons to motor cars, historical figures, Indiana celebrities, native Americans, Black history and more. We enjoyed our lunch in the cafe. The prices are a little higher, so you may want to eat before you come if you are feeding a family. I highly recommend this museum. Visited on

There is a great variety of art class choices for different people and budgets. There is also opportunity to receive financial assistance or for children to receive free art education through community partner programming around the city. IF you have time and money, then you have a real opportunity to take classes from some of the very best artists in the city. But the very best part of the Indianapolis Art Center is free. The exhibitions inside the Art Center galleries feature work by nationally acclaimed artists, as well as young blooming artists and students too. There is no other gallery in Indianapolis as diverse and eclectic as the Art Center. Additionally, the sculpture park is also free and a beautiful place to experience art and nature. Another amazing thing is the history. The building itself is designed by Michael Graves — who is from Broad Ripple too — and was picked by Joyce Sommers herself. In the words of Kurt Vonnegut: "The Art Center is an example of America at its most Utopian — peaceful, welcoming to one and all, and boundlessly optimistic."Jennifer Delgadillo

The outside area is pretty with some interesting sculptures, and nicely shaded by green tunnels. The nearby river is calming, with some decent views via the wooden walking platforms. You can also stroll right down to the water if you don’t mind getting a little dirty. The art on display when I visited today is a little too leftwing for my tastes, but hey, that’s art. I wouldn’t bring children through it. I’m not in town long enough to take any classes, but it seems really cool. There is a nice little library down one of the halls. The Indianapolis Art Center is an incredible asset to the community that delivers such remarkable benefit! Our non-profit is so grateful to have been able to rent this wonderful space. The atmosphere, communication, and contact with the IAC for our free positive parenting event was exemplary; and the provided equipment was wonderfully helpful. The space was set up and ready to go when we arrived and it was generally the easiest, most fluid part of organizing and hosting an event. A little away from main indianapolis city, it's a farm land with its own historic importance. They tried to maintain this place as if time clocked 200 years backwards in Indiana. But overall not a very-well managed one, and too hot out in summers. I don't think you'll miss anything if you skip this in your visit to Indianapolis. All in all a dry, undecorated place with rough farm land mostly. Balloon ride will cost you $15 to $18 extra on top of your entry ticket. Cafe is overpriced considering the location. Even very basic plain patty burger will cost about $12 while you sit out in summer. Children play areas are pretty good (specially the air conditioned indoor one), and small children will surely enjoy it a lot. If you're visiting Indianapolis, consider taking Indy Pass. They cover 8 places in their $48 day pass, and Conner Prairie is one of them. It's a good deal if you know how to best utilize it. Visited on

My whole family, kids aged 14 to 2 years old, had a wonderful time at the Headless Horseman fu . We took the hay ride and went down the dry tubing runs. All four of my kids loved the activities so much, even my 2-year-old and 4 year old 🙂 I feel like the dry tubing runs could be set up a little bit better. It took forever for the patrons to drag their tubes up the hill. I think there should be a solution so that more people can get down more efficiently. But it was very cool anyway. We had a wonderful time and everone wished we could stay longer. The corn maze is gorgeous this year, and all the employees are so friendly. It's really a wonderful place to visit, especially if all fall with the gorgeous leaves all around. Visited on

This place is an absolute must visit, especially if you have kids. Conner Prairie is massive, with different settings and villages all built around providing a "living history" experience. As an adult, I found this place to be fascinating from a historical perspective, but my kids were the ones that really loved it. With a massive treehouse, lots of animals, buildings to explore, and indoor/outdoor play areas, they could easily spend an entire day here. I felt the reenactors did a great job of interacting with the kids as well. With the cost of tickets, I would recommend looking in to an annual pass if you plan on visiting more than once. They also have a military discount as well. We came here first thing on a Sunday morning and had the place to ourselves! Definitely try coming during an off-time to maximize the experience.Sam Sachs

Nice. Not overwhelming huge..but big enough…about 3 to 4 hours to see everything…. Lots of parking…and handicap spaces.. Lots of helpful friendly employees. Loved the dolphin show.. And a demonstration of macaws..beautiful birds.. Lots of big animals…elephants, giraffe, zebra, tiger, lion, cheetah… Variety of colorful birds…and reptiles.. Very nicely laid out..use a map….lots of restrooms…very clean and maintained.. Several choices of getting something to eat or drink stands..and outdoor tables with umbrellas..some inside eating too. Not included in your entrance price..is a mini roller coaster. A gondola ride over the orangutan outdoor enclosure…also fantastic view of the city skyline..its quite a high ride..but goes slowly. And a train around the zoo…(my opinion…i wouldn't waste my extra $$ to to ride it…just went by the back lot..zoo maintenance..weeds….didn't see any animals..just a train ride) And a carousel for the kids.. Overall..quite an enjoyable day.. And gift shop..Mabel

Spent well over $300 for what we thought was going to be the best zoo we’ve ever been to according to other reviews and seeing advertisements, however it was the opposite. The place was not very clean and I felt bad for most of the animals because their enclosures weren’t big enough. I know all the good Thai facility does with rehabilitation and such with animals but I was just disappointed in the overall entertainment and experience. The dolphin show was cute but not all the hype. I wouldn’t recommend buying TAP because it isn’t worth the extra money. The only ride they actually had going was the carousel. It was drizzling so I guess the train wasn’t operating? I’m not sure on that one. On the positive, the most of the animals seemed happy and taken care of. We went for mother's day and it was fantastic! A little busy, especially in the aquatic area, but the Indy Zoo had beautiful animals, and the whole zoo is generally clean. I do wish the bathrooms were a little bit cleaner and that there was more than 1 family restroom. More than anything, I'd ask for mobile ordering from the cafes. They do an incredible job with the animals though. A good amount of chats and activities, but not too many for the animals themselves. The elephant experience is absolutely incredible… Go for the chat, and get in line quick enough to feel the elephant for a moment. Truly beautiful creatures. I spoke with the caretakers and they care for the animals more than anything. Well worth the membership. Visited on

Their assessment is very thorough and gives a good idea where the child is, both Reading/Lit & Math. Lisa takes the time to meet with each child & discuss where they struggle & how they feel tutoring would benefit them. She also met with me and gave me a great idea on where they are starting with my sons, and where the end goal is with them. They worked their tutoring hours around my hectic work schedule & came up with a plan that fit best for both of us. My sons are absolutely enjoying tutoring. They are excited to attend! They are feeling confident in their math abilities (which is where they both struggle the most). The small group & 1:1 attention Huntington is able to provide fits perfect with my older son's ADHD/anxiety issues, as he has someone to explain & not rush through or not have to make sure 20+ other students are understanding. I am really impressed with Huntington. The director (Lisa) and the tutors have been extremely professional, friendly and helpful. They genuinely seem to care about my girls. My two daughters (ages 7 and 10) have been going to Huntington since April. We have had great results! A few days ago we found out that my eldest daughter had achieved one of her big goals in math. Not surprisingly, the progress she is making in math is really boosting her confidence. Both girls really enjoy going to Huntington. They have never complained about having to go. I think one reason why the program works so well is that Lisa puts a lot of time and energy into matching the right tutor for each student. My sixth and 3rd graders attend Huntington Learning Center since September and have improved their grades quite a bit. Their reading and math skills are progressing and I am pleased with the tutors work. The kids are learning to work independently but it is a work in progress. We had to take our 8 week old into the ER to have a possible emergency surgery our dr sent us there for. The waiting room was DISGUSTING. There was trash and gunk everywhere, the front desk just had food and drinks all over and it was chaos. It was so busy with being respiratory sickness season which is understandable but the hospital just “feels” dirty. The staff drs and nurses are all great. Our room was so gross. I had my daughters car seat and blanket on the ground next to the chair bed and there was a BED BUG crawling on her car seat!!!!!! Clear as day. It smelled awful int here and not sanitized at all. There was trash and prover of stuff all over. I just can’t believe a hospital was that dirty.Karst Family

Very dissatisfied with Riley’s ER care. My granddaughter was seen on the north side and the ER doc wrote it off as a virus (ran no labs, x-rays, or urine test). She went in with a 104 fever they gave ibuprofen and sent her home. Riley down town the next day with 104 fever, my daughter waited 5 hours and couldn’t get in to be seen! Triage has serious issues!! Upon going to another hospital we found out that my granddaughter has very bad pneumonia and tested positive for RSV. White blood cells and inflammation markers were very high. And this is a top childrens hospital??? Not! The doctor totally missed a serious diagnosis that should’ve been cared for had they taken the time to do their job!Kimberly Belcher

We unfortunately had to spend a few days here after a head injury on my 2 year old son. Everyone we came across was wonderful! They were all so good with my son and you could tell they all genuinely cared. We missed Halloween at home, but they came around and did reverse trick or treating and gave all the kids a teddy bear and a ball. They even gave them a brand new costume if they didn't have one! We also got to attend their Halloween party and they gave us even more goodies there. It was an unfortunate situation, but they know how to make the best of it! More people need to spread the word on this amazing theater! We volunteer here and get to see so many fabulous plays. Great actors, great management, friendly ushers. You don't want to miss the new Phoenix Theatre or its season of plays on two stages – one large, one small. Plus they can host any event with their extra space. Came all the way from Germany and just saw "Bakersfield Mist". After the show was one curtain only. Way too less to appropriately value the performance. A very intelligently written play and a wonderful actress and actor who turned this into an inspiring and entertaining event. For all art lovers and people lovers definitely a must see. I was lucky enough to be part of a tour last night showing off this lovely old theater. Our guide could not have been friendlier and his love for the space was easy to understand. There are two theater spaces that are small, intimate, and nicely maintained. You will want to get there a bit early to find parking but I easily found a free spot a few blocks away.Zackary Prince

This is the worst facility I’ve been to. The parking lot was packed and had trash on the ground. Getting in the building too many people came in at once while trying to be checked in. Over crowded and did not enforce COVID restrictions. Many people (spectators and even some of the coaches-per rules) without face masks on or did not have them on properly. Limited softball to one parent, but had several different activities going on where there were multiple people in attendance for one player. Many of which did not leave after the game if they had a break in between, while not allowing softball parents to enter until 5-15 minutes before the game started. Last visit, they did not want to allow a few of the players in because they “reached their max.” Yet this time, people are all over the place and not staying within the sport area. They did not properly have umpires for all of the games and instead had a staff member umpiring. For this not to be the first round of tournaments, rules should be written, known, followed and consistent. Facility management did not do their job very well.Nicole Trice

Place used to be okay until new leadership. The gal believes she is the best thing around Indiana when she isn’t. She upped prices 15%, gate fees by 40% and says that people should stop complaining. You already charge $50 more than competition and people supported you and now you want to force customers to pay more for less time playing?? If you want more support add an extra team to a tournament and don’t charge your loyal people more… seems like someone needs to give this ownership a reality check (Judy) before they lose their support from their used to be loyal customers. The staff is very rude besides the young kids – it’s actually backwards in what’s supposed to happen. Went here for a BJJ tournament, nice place. It has a almost fly back to the 50s kind of feel to it but it’s modern nice new clean very spacious.. Yo always need to watch out for the locker rooms and showers in these places and this place was very very clean well-kept. Shoot, how have I not reviewed Practice Indie Yoga yet when it's one of my most cherished local businesses?! I can not rave enough about this community and the yoga classes offered here. But it's really not just about yoga when it comes to Practice Indie; this space offers so much more than that. They've brought me guidance and motivation during their yearly Goal Setting Workshop. I've learned Tarot and Astrology through other various workshops they offer.. which speaking of astrology, I absolutely look forward to their Wednesday Astro Flow with Megan Hanna each week. The Saturday morning Spirit Journey class with Shannon is always a sweet treat usually leaving me with fun life / philosophy wisdom to ponder all weekend. All of the instructors are just the most beautiful, inspiring, and genuine souls who will greet you by name ensuring you feel apart of this community. The monthly membership is legit affordable and they have different options per different lifestyles. Also the way they pivoted to offering Hybrid- Zoom/In-person classes during the pandemic may be my new favorite addition now that I can practice from the comforts of my home. I could go on.. But this place is doing all the right things so take it from me- I've tried a few other studios around the city- Practice Indie Studio is a magical, hidden gem that you want to find yourself at – literally & figuratively.Savanna Lueken

Naptown fitness has been an awesome gym that has encouraged me to get stronger and provided a fun environment that I looked forward to going to the gym. I started doing Swift for a little over a year with some friend that didn't want to do Crossfit yet, and I just recently switched to Crossfit. Swift was always a good quick workout that was able to scale to start off and then get stronger, and crossfit is just a good hard workout that even in a short amount of time I can feel myself getting stronger. However the best part of Naptown are the staff, shout out to Jessi who is an awesome coach and is just so nice and fun, but also really willing to work to help with my form and also tell me to get heavier weights cause she knows I can push myself more, and was being lazy. And to Peter and Eric who are willing to work with you and really make you feel like a person and part of the community. But overall, it is everyone that works there, and even just to being in a class, when a coach isn't working, but just working alongside you, they're always ready with some tips or just words of encouragement. These guys deserve all of the "Excellent" ratings I can see from other reviewers. I was in town working for a month so I became a regular drop in. I cannot say enough about the quality of the people running the place. Very friendly, helpful, and great coaches. For the beginners they know how to modify workouts and will help you with technique and form as you go along. I am sad I won't be around to see the new renovations the extra room is going to be awesome. If I am ever back in Indy I am definitely going to drop in again.Alan Harris

My child has been going to this school for about 3 years now. Every time I go pick him up he is always happy and excited about the day he had with his friends, and teachers. He is learning many things that will help him in his life. I know this because of Tadpole app for this school puts his learning and progress with me at all times like I am there with him. I can watch videos of him playing and learning. Teachers and staff there are just like having good friends and family with my son every day helping him learn and be able to have a great foundation to continue learning. My daughter absolutely loved attending The Goddard School of Fishers! She was welcomed with open arms and treated with such love and kindness. The staff is fantastic and the program is phenomenal! I was sent pictures and videos of her throughout the day as well as written, detailed daily updates – we enjoyed looking at her pictures and videos together in the evening which helped her in conversing about what she did each day. I was able to be fully present at work knowing that she was having a blast with her peers, getting great education, eating healthy meals/snacks and, most importantly, that she was safe and cared for. Our daughter was student at Goddard Fishers and has just left to start Kindergarten. We has a wonderful experience at this school. We consider teachers and staff our family. The teachers had intimate knowledge and understanding of our child's temperament and quirks. Administrators, staff, and owner has always been accommodating to our needs and responded to our requests within minutes. Now our son is still at Goddard and will continue attending until his turn to start Kindergarten. We know it will be a bitter-sweet day for him as the teachers and classmates became such an important part of his life. Culver was truly the most amazing experience that I was lucky enough to be apart of. Mr Smith as he is known around campus was nice enough and gracious enough to help me be apart of this awesome experience. Culver has something for everyone horseback riding ,sailing,aviation. I was apart of troop. And that was the study of equitation and how to take care of and maintain the safety and wellness of your horse. And different styles of riding. Like I said if you wanna give your child a experience that will help them grow and teach them what it’s like to come together as a team and accomplish goals that are bigger then just one person it will be something that they can take with them forever and I can tell you from experience it was worth it and I can say with confidence that it opened so many doors for me and helped make me into the person I am today. Highly recommended for a spectacular experience and a great way to meet new friends from around our beautiful world. The Dance Company has wonderful teachers. We love Miss Sallie and how loving she is with her students, as well as how well she manages the kids in class. She maintains control of the children and they have fun at the same time. The Nutcracker performance the studio presented this December was amazing and far exceeded our expectations. …I have an autistic son, and this was our very first summer trying out the ymca- first we tried the traditional camp- he enjoyed the camp, but unfortunately dealt with bullying, and no one playing with him- in my opinion it was much more free play, which allowed kids to mix and mingle “where they wanted”, rather than putting them together more as groups. i pulled him out, and we did the ymca camp thats held in the schools- now I will say this was “much” better- im not sure why but the counselors there just seemed much more attentive, and there was absolutely no bullying whatsoever- I paid full price, but only took him about 2-3 times a week- and whereas I appreciated that, I’m torn on whether to do the ymca again next summer- nonetheless, I am grateful that my child was cared for enough to place him in a better fit rather than to simply be disregarded- I gave it 4 stars simply for that-gerberbabymom78

I registered for my children to attend summer camp via the Greater Indianapolis YMCA- I wanted to call before I completed the process to see if they could make room for my daughter for one of the weeks. They could not. While trying to navigate away from the site, I confirmed the registration. Instead of understanding- they are keeping my deposit money of $60 and refusing to return it. I hear on the radio all the time about how this organization cares about it's community and how they want to help- but obviously that is not true. I am a mother of 4 and I cannot afford to waste funds on such errors. And the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis does not seem to care. I will not be supporting them any further. As a new resident of Indianapolis I was seeking to participate and join- I can no longer do that.Blake Poston

Our kiddo has enjoyed summer camp two summers in a row. The Lego enrichment has been awesome! With a new challenge everyday he stays engaged and entertained. They have lots of time for outdoor fun as well!! 😁Cara Engel-Dalton

Honestly – first time ever reviewing anything, but horribly disappointed with this place. It is likely fine for 6 and up, or babies with parental hand holding, but do not trust their poorly equipped kids (the “coaches”) to “instruct” your 2-3 year olds. There is a real safety issue in this regard and it will surface to be a significant liability at some point. I don’t expect much beyond fun activities and exercise in this age range, but I absolutely trust that there will be eyes on the children and simple safety etiquette. I am very much a let kids play type of dude, but couldn’t stand to see my 2 1/2 year old hit in her head three times (swinging kid, slide fall and a bar) all in the first 15 mins. Interestingly, not a single incident was observed by staff. I had to actually walk onto the floor and scoop up my child after the third incident for which she now has an egg on her forehead. Dana smiled. Just smiled. The little “coach” just stared, clueless. Never saw a thing. Kids continued to run around sans monitoring. Also, away from this, the venue is dirty and the foot odor is so bad they burn candles when you walk in to mask it. Anyway, you have been warned. Thank you.Troy Clark

I have gone here for 5 years, the coaches are all super nice, some are more strict than others, they will push you but won't make you do something that you are uncomfortable with. They have a good variety of teams and different activities like cheer, tumbling, ninja classes ect. There competition teams aren't as serious as other gyms in this area. They are very safe but not over doing it. I've gotten hurt here a few times and and they are all very nice and give you ice if your parents have left they will call and tell them exactly what happened and that you are done for today so you don't get even more hurt.Elizabeth Hansen

I'm looking for places for my daughter to join and went to Dana Mannix for class information and cost because of their location. Upon receiving the info, we were told my daughter can try a class to see if it's something she would like and were told to call ahead to see if there was an opening available. When I called to verify an open spot, I was informed there was a fee to just try the class. Why would I pay when there are several other places that allow a free class to try? My son is currently enrolled at this center, and he absolutely loves it. He’s been there now for a week and I can see that he’s already adjusting. The staff there is awesome! They are professional, and so very nice as well as understanding with great communication. The director was fairly quick to help get my CCDF vouchers up and rolling. I’m greatly appreciate of them. The staff at this location are very nice and polite. My daughter has been learning she does lots of activities. I also receive daily photos of her enjoying her time there and I love the way I can see what she os doing it gives me a peace of mind knowing my daughter is an good hands thanks you guys keep up the good work.Erica Garcia

My children both go to here and they love it! They love that they get to do plenty of crafts, and they love having multiple "lunches" (snacks). I love that I get updates of what my kids are doing/eating, throughout the day, right on my phone. They staff are super friendly and I feel safe leaving my children there.Rachel Clark
