I know y'all are hanging in there from the pandemic I will be going to school on June 1st I have not been in school for 6 years because of problems in my family's life I'm still trying to figure life out I'm just now starting to take care of my mom I am living with her now which is a big step. I either need a scholarship for a college essay or need a grant but they said I don't make enough money. I worked for four years by the way. since I started school in dallas colleges(2019) this summer 2022 is the worse for me. My professor O'Brien is never available, no help from him, and has denied access to all the features that other professors give access to students in order to help us. I went to the campus to talk to an advisor after sending him more than 5 emails, even at the campus No one knew his whereabouts and he finally responded after 2 weeks since i told him I think I'll drop that class he didn't even bother to try and assist me instead he said yes you can drop it and you'll for sure find the same class with another instructor good luck. First time to have such a 👎 instructor at dallas colleges I so much regret wasting this semester in this class. I even submitted a complaint but no once has reached me to even ask anything.Therese Ambani

Im only a freshmen at Mountainview community college but I already have a great opinion on the institution. I love the greenery surrounding the buildings because they make me feel tranquilized, I love the inclusivity this college gives and the diversity here. The professors that I have so far have been amazing and makes my classes worth looking forward to. I visited the school store in the S building just last week and I really love everything the store has to offer such as snacks, school supplies, feminine products, hygiene products, cosmetics, and basic necessities! The subway in the dining hall has welcoming employees with great customer service. The success coaches in the S building are also very helpful with planning for classes and addressing any concerns you may have. I love this college!Brianna

Would not recommend. I can't speak to the instructors since I never made it that far, but the staff needs a refresher course on office management. I work in an admin office and if I ignored customers as I was ignored by this college I would have been fired a long time ago. I had my former colleges send my official transcripts in April which both confirmed that they had. I asked in June and in July where we were in the processes. The only answer I received was that "we can't find them" and asked if they were submitted under another name. I had told them multiple times that they were submitted under my maiden name as I was not married when I received other degrees. No response. So I had them resent. There was no response. So after 24 hours I emailed both the registrar's office AND the email designed specifically for transcripts and did not hear back again. When I went up and emailed everyone in the admissions office suddenly they found my transcripts and my transcript hold disappeared like that. And then afterward, suddenly I received a response to one of my emails and the person I was speaking to was quite snippy with me saying that she "got to it when she could" although I had been inquiring for 2 MONTHS about the status of my transcripts. Fortunately this was going to be my first semester and I have enough time that I found another distance education vet tech degree from another college. I won't be registering for classes with Cedar Valley after this whole thing honestly its NOT worth it. Also, there is NO requirement to meet with an advisor and no one point of contact for Distance Education students. Their instructions for registering for classes are confusing and even inquiry emails were met with silence. Also it feels the admissions office was supplying contrary information on how to enroll in vet tech classes in the first place! If you're looking for a distance education vet tech program I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you going elsewhere. You'll just get frustrated here. I would give 0 stars if possibleAmy Shumway

I'm going to be fair and admit that the teachers I've had have been the most helpful, inspiring, and kind people I've ever met. Unfortunately I can't say the same for most of the staff up front. Most of the staff are rude and unhelpful, constantly running you in circles like they have no idea how anything works. The advising staff are very unhelpful as well. Patty Soper-Shaw placed me in two wrong classes my first semester, and admitted to me she had no idea about any of the technology courses I was trying to take. Because of that, I'm now left without the hardware course I needed to take before the software one which leads me to this biggest problem I have with this college. DO NOT TAKE TECHNOLOGY CLASSES HERE! It's a dead end. A majority of classes never have enough students to make the class work, so they're constantly being dropped. The dean of the technology department, Mr. Johnson, came to our class at the beginning of the Fall 2017 Semester to tell us our class is cancelled. He even admitted that the technology classes there are failing tor receive enough students for the classes, and apparently it's been that way for the past 10 years! It's to the point where my degree is absolutely useless, and because of the constant cancellations and mess ups between staff and advisers, my life is now behind because I can't even get a simple certification or degree. I've been at this school for three semesters, and after my class getting cancelled again, I've decided to finish up this last semester and move onto another college. This school is the most unorganized, uninformative, and misleading place I've ever been to. I'm not the only student this has happened to either. I've spoken with many at that school who have suffered from the same problems I spoke about. This school has been a nightmare to go to and get anything done at. Awful experience. The advising staff were rude and unhelpful. Registration staff were extremely unhelpful and contradictory. After being led in pointless circles and constantly receiving contradictory information about required forms and materials, I was finally able to meet someone who understood what was going on (after talking with at least 4 different registration staff members). By the time everything was sorted out, the classes were filled up. The advising staff members are not accommodating, interrupting, and very accusatory. It should not be on the customers shoulders to filter through constant contradictions just to apply to the school. I did follow and submit the required material stated online. Apparently, the material submitted was no acceptable and I had to jump through many hoops and complete many tedious tasks just to be told it was all pointless and I didn't even have to do any of the "required" forms or tasks. Honestly, I just felt like I was wasting my time doing pointless tasks when most, if not all, of it could have been avoided. By the time all my information was processed, I had finished applying/enrolling, getting advised, registering for classes, and paying for the classes at a different community college. This was the most unorganized, confusing, drawn-out process I've ever had to go through for any college admission. Wasted so much time throughout this process. Oh, did I mention that no one knows how to pick up the phone? Called at many different points in time throughout the day just to be sent to voicemail… This happened for an entire week. Leave a voicemail and hope they get back to you promptly.Water Fountain

I'll preface this with that the only reason this school is getting 2 stars is because staff has actually been helpful when I have reached out to try and fix things. But when I tell you EVERY step of this process has been an absolute nightmare I am not exaggerating. I am a TWU graduate and needed a quick summer class to take because i got a conditional acceptance to a graduate school. This is time sensitive. So, long story short every single step had some issue that took multiple phone calls and people to fix. The biggest issue was me paying for an official transcript, seeing that on the tracking information brookhaven had received the transcript, and days later having the transcript STILL not put into the system which kept me from registering for the class that my entire future quite literally depended on me taking. Because of the bad timing of spring break I had to register late and it took an hour in person of me and the wonderful admissions worker figuring it out because no one we needed to contact was actually on campus. Although she was incredibly helpful, it was obvious the entire set up was frustrating for her too. The website is outdated and confusing and I get endless errors- i couldn't even pay without there being an error. Christi Carter is an awful person who sees students making mistakes during class and says NOTHING, then cheats during the "random body part selection process for competicy testing" and gives you the one body part she saw you making a mistake on but said nothing during class so she can kick you out of the program. Absolute zero compassion for students and their education. Luckily I've graduated Radiology at a different college dispite her being an absolute awful teacher. How someone can be so curropt and unfair became director of the program is beyond me.__

I was at this campus just to get my Student ID this week. Everyone I encountered was kind and helpful from the security desk attendant to the staff in Student Services. When I was looking at one of the outside campus maps to find my way a staff member came up and assisted me with the directions to where I needed to go. Reading the other reviews here, I see others have had problems with admissions and financial aid – I think all universities have lots of complicated paperwork in regards to those areas, so patience is necessary.Curtis Johnson

This school is literally the worst, they take all day in the advising office and registration office. They will have one or two people helping more than 20 people and you would think that would make them have a sense of urgency but they do not. They all act as if they don’t feel like helping you and move so damn slow. I received 2 parking tickets during the time I have attended this school because two hours in a meter is not even enough. The best advisor is Shannon, the rest of them act like they don’t care and will not give you any guidance when your new to college, some will over talk you and not even pay attention or listen to what you are saying to them. This school will literally make you not want to attend college at all with how difficult they make the process. I am here at the college registering for my classes for the fall and have been here since 1:00 it is now 4:00pm smdh. If you plan on coming here make sure you have a whole day to spend here!!!! I was suppose to be taking classes here last year but wasn't able to log in. I had a meeting and asked for help and she said she couldn't help me for some reason…I ended up texting & emailing people for help but they eighter didn't reply or said they were going to help me but then ended up not communicating back. I managed to call tec support and they said website was down. Few days later they called me & said they were going to put me on a list and since then I haven't heard anything. I feel like putting a bad review I’m currently trying to see a councilor here at El Centro I came Thursday before 5pm and they told me it was closed but on the website they close at 5pm. Come to find out today a staff member told me they closed an hour early because they were having a spring break party. Today I’m trying to speak to an advisor I’m the only one here sitting in the lobby still waiting for someone to help me. I used to love this school but honestly service has gone down the drain. Omg! What an experience!!! I have lived in Dallas all my life and I never knew this place was as big as it is. You always see the big white building but what you don’t know is they have 30+ buildings on 80 acres (I think that’s what the security officer told me). I went during the celebration of their 50th year anniversary. It was a straight 50 hour celebration and there was soooo much to do. Everyone there was so nice! There are people/students there from all over the world and I can’t say enough nice things about every single person I came across. I’ll definitely be back.D Howard

Great Service: Tuesday Evening God was there, Worship and Word Solid! Infrastructure: building is well kept. **Student oriented, no kids ministry. This is a Ministry school focused on students and providing a service for those who don’t have a church. Some of the things you expect at a church aren’t offered, reception, kids ministries, bookstore, cafe, etc… I loved the experience, I kind of knew what to expect. I expected Jesus, and I got Jesus! I attended this school back in the early 90s for a couple of years. Not much has changed from the sound of it, and I would know since my children attend a real Christian School. Disclaimer: Please take note of the fact that I cannot address each individual that attends, is employed by, or is affiliated with Bishop Lynch individually; for the purposes of this review I address BL corporately. This school is not accurately billed as a Christian school; the parents are of questionable character, the children are arrogant, unintelligent and uneducated, and the faculty is made up—almost in its entirety—of idiotic enablers that treat guests and “poor” attendees like trash. Let me be clear: if all you do is pay your tuition then you are a castaway (unless they are part of the athletic “Scholarship” group). This is a good thing if you want your entitlement generation child to grow up without ever having any hope of grasping the concept of responsibility…just pay an endowment to the school and your child will OWN those hallways for that year; especially if they can do things with any kind of a ball that is used for sports. If you want your child to be educated in a secular-only manner then almost any public school is a better choice…BL is really not scholastically competitive. If you truly want your child to be educated in a Christian manner whilst simultaneously being prepared for college then look into almost any of the Christian schools inside or north of the LBJ loop. If you want to bail your kids out of jail someday, then look no further! BL has a solid reputation for ignoring drug use and producing thuggish high schoolers that get into quite a bit of mischief. Just don’t be surprised when your good children: A) come to you frustrated and say they can’t take the abuse anymore; or B) your already rotten kids become absolute societal terrors. Hey; not all was lost…USMC boot camp was a breeze after the head-games of BL…all of the bullies that ran the place would run for their lives if they saw me now!Jonathan rabroker

II is a waste of good money to send a student to Bishop Lynch. Parents will spend fifty to sixty thousand dollars to get their child a high school education. The academics at this school are no better than any good public school. The school has a major problem with drugs and alcohol. Parents with money at this school throw large parties and the school turns a blind eye because these same parents contribute large sums of money to the school. The football and men's basketball programs have seen their share of problems and are in serious decline. I would advice any serious athlete to stay away from them. Plus, the college scouts do not come very often looking for college talent at Lynch. Bishop Lynch portrays the perception of being Catholic, but the reality is nothing could further from the truth. Bishop Lynch relies on the old phrase when it comes to new students, "There's a sucker born every minute." All I can say is stay away fro this school.Joseph Carr

Bishop Lynch High School is a great school but some of the staff is a little off. The dean of students treats the kids like they're incomprehensive and below her. It was a drastic change from Chris Rebuck to her and caught my family off guard. She puts herself on a pedestal when its not her place. She crosses the line too often not to mention, she takes certain issues into her own hands when they're more of a counselor oriented situation. She says things to students that are disrespectful when she's trying to be assertive. Other than her I'd say Bishop Lynch High School is an academically well rounded school and I highly recommend it.annabelle dandree

I wish my daughter had come to Winston sooner! I wish our family had been a part of the Winston family sooner. From the interview on, I knew my daughter was in the right place. She woke me up on her first day of school and that continued every day for the remainder of the school year. The immediate feeling of "family" and "belonging" are just starters. My daughter went from not liking school and having issues with peers and teachers – to smiling and talking about what went on at school, without me having to probe. The teachers are such wonderful, special people themselves. They understand the children and the struggles we parents are going through. The communication is exemplary and as a collective the entire set-up truly is about making each child thrive. I am eagerly awaiting for school to begin because my daughter is so happy to be returning. The other children are so compassionate to each other. Each one of them is among such a variety of other stellar kids. Most of whom would not have begun to reach their potentials if not for Winston. I could wax on about how wonderful this school is. EVERYTHING truly is about the child. To go from feeling like you are alone and no one understands your child-to everything being a light bulb moment for both you and your child is indescribable. I cried upon my child getting accepted, I truly did. It was such a huge relief to know that she was going to be in such safe hands. Not just safe but loving and nurturing too. This was my son's first year at Winston and we were both unsure of what to expect. Winston definitely exceeded our expectations and my son had a great 6th grade year! When I visited Winston School I knew that it would provide the exact environment my son needed because he could simply learn and work at a pace comfortable for him, but my initial concern was the tuition. When we arrived what we found was what I was hoping for! A school where my son could continue to grow, learn, and gain the confidence that had been lacking previously. The thing I like most about the school is the positive environment that flows throughout Winston. All the teachers and staff have the common goal of helping your child to exceed all expectations. This belief is evident in the students that attend Winston and plays a great role in their educational path. My son believes in himself and wants to succeed and this is due to his teachers and the staff at Winston encouraging him on a daily basis. In addition to the positive environment, I now have peace of mind in knowing that he is on course educationally, receiving great communication from the teachers/staff on a consistent basis, and seeing my child happy and excited to go to school every day. I have recommended Winston to any and everyone that I come in contact with. I cannot say enough good things about Winston. I only wish that I’d known about Winston sooner! While the overall expertise and spirit of collegiality at GIAL is remarkable, prospective students should be aware of three GIAL administrative policies that are out of step with mainstream expectations for institutions of higher education in the United States. 1- GIAL does not provide students with access to Federal Student Aid (i.e. FAFSA) due in part because GIAL would then have to comply with federal non-discrimination policies (see 2 and 3 below). 2- All GIAL employees are required to agree to a statement of faith. While graduate students are not required to agree to this statement of faith, they cannot participate in certain paid research and career options at GIAL without signing it. 3- Members of the LGBTQ community are liable to face harassment or expulsion at the hands of GIAL administration. According to the 2016-2017 Student Handbook, “GIAL community members are to… [abstain] from homosexual behavior…and from advocating any such behaviors.” For instance, in addition to discriminatory actions leveled against me, I have witnessed the GIAL administration forbid a gay graduate student from respectfully advocating for the rights and needs of the LGBTQ community, ban him from researching how various course topics intersected with elements of queer culture that can be found internationally, and manipulatively silence him from publicly speaking about the discriminatory actions they had taken against him. In August 2014 I enrolled in GIAL’s MA in Language and Culture Studies, planning to go into a career in humanitarian work. The 2014-2015 GIAL Student Handbook gave me no indication that the GIAL administration would be concerned with my sexual orientation, but I knew that GIAL was a conservative institution, so I did my best to respect the majority values at GIAL, which wasn’t too difficult as I myself was a religious and social conservative at that time. When I enrolled, I was excited about the emphasis that GIAL places on academic participation with ethnic and linguistic minorities and on training professionals for service to such communities. Since I am a member of an underprivileged minority community (i.e. the LGBTQ community), I find myself uniquely positioned to empathize with the experiences and needs of ethnic and linguistic minorities. Unfortunately, I soon discovered that the GIAL administration does not value the perspectives that LGBTQ students can bring to GIAL. Instead, I witnessed the GIAL administration enforce the discriminatory actions that I’ve already mentioned (see 3 above) and was informed that those prohibitions also applied to me. Furthermore, I was put on behavioral probation because I was alleged to have been seen hugging another man on campus. As part of the probation, my words and actions were monitored with the threat of immediate expulsion if it were deemed that I had again transgressed GIAL's vague policy that "the conduct of…students…should honor Christ in all activities on and off the campus.” Along with the probation, the Dean of Academic Affairs told me the following: that I knew better than to claim that I had not "dishonored Christ”; that he knew that I knew that I had committed immorality; and that if I were thinking clearly, I would agree that I needed GIAL to punish and monitor my behavior for my own good. These statements were untrue and demeaning. While my expectation had been that GIAL would be a place where I could complete my graduate studies in peace, I felt stigmatized, unwelcomed, and unjustly scrutinized on a daily basis there. I withdrew from GIAL in January 2015 when discrimination based on sexual orientation was declared as official GIAL policy for students (see 3 above). I think discrimination based on faith and sexual orientation hurts GIAL’s mission, reputation, and academic goals, and I hope that at some point in the future, GIAL will recognize their mistake and welcome a more diverse student body, faculty, and staff.Viktor Detwiler

You know that you are in a good place when you are doing research for a sociolinguistic class and see your professor being cited by other experts in the field or when the same professor pulls out a map of a region where she had done extensive field work, gives us infrastructure and historical details, and asks us what we would think of the language vitality for several languages given that knowledge. For most of my time here, I was studying at the Center for Excellence in World Arts. I greatly appreciated the discussions on ethics when doing research. The topic was not presented as “What can we get away with in our quest for knowledge?” but rather focused on the question of “Are we actually benefiting the people we are learning from?” This non-parasitic role of an anthropologist who is there to learn and record not only for other academics but for the indigenous experts who have passed these traditions for who knows how many generations was greatly inspiring to me. As an artist myself, I was thrilled to interact with people from cultural backgrounds very different from my own while having that connection of creativity. The faculty greatly challenged my priorities and thought processes. When you study Anthropology, it will truly open your mind if you let it. You will find yourself wrong on many things, but that can actually be very exciting and rewarding. My only two regrets are not being able to continue due to life circumstances, and that I had to give up Hula when my ankle gave out. Yep, there was a class here where I got to find someone to train me in an art form, and there is a great Hālau in the area.Gabe Shennum

Volunteered here in high school. I found them to be discriminatory of anything different towards me and their students (race, ideas, lgbtq). While other students (of a lighter shade) were allowed library or office work, my sister and I were given bathroom and cleaning duties. We were also not allowed lunch breaks during our volunteering. We were often being talked to in a condescending way. I can never stand by an institution that can be so cruel. How I wish I could go back and tell myself to find something else for volunteer credit. I hope the local high schools have gotten rid of the volunteering requirement because they do not deserve the help. I was pursing my Bachelors Degree but had to leave college due to unforeseen financial difficulties. I was looking for a job in the IT field but no one wants to hire you unless you have years of experience. I had heard about the Per Scholars program and decided it would be a great option in getting the experience I needed in order to obtain a job that would pay enough for me to go back to college. I attended the orientation which was very informative. Passed both reading and math TABE exams, filled out all the forms, submitted all the necessary documents, and took both assessments for their engineering programs. I have yet to hear back from the program on whether or not I passed the last assessments. Its been over 2 weeks! I've emailed, called, left messages and haven't heard back from anyone. Classes start next month, and I'm stuck! I've turned down numerous jobs thinking this program would be great for me. I appreciate programs like Per Scholas trying to uplift communities, especially minority communities, but this really is a shame.deKKo 213

Perscholas has changed my life dramatically and will always have a place in my heart and in my Future. The instructors are amazing. They work with you to help you become the best person you can be. I am A+ certified and working on my Network+. I am an alumni from Perscholas. The admissions director does a fantastic job at recruiting people who are determined and hard working individuals. My classmates were very helpful and diverse. I recommend this program to anyone who has a passion for IT and wants a great career. The course is 15 weeks. Not only do you get hands on IT training, but you also get business development. You have a separate instructor who helps build you resume and confidence to get you interview ready. If you are looking for an Episcopalian school that has good academics and a kind, happy environment….. There are MUCH better options. I was a student here for nine years, and I gained almost nothing from the experience. LS was okay, but I cannot say the same for MS or HS. If you truly want your child to have leadership positions (student council, honor council, etc.) and earn academic awards, be prepared to give thousands of dollars a year and become best friends with the administration. Most of the teachers teach to one type of learner, and if your child is not that type, they will treat him or her with hostility. The Head of School is a joke. The curriculum includes many pointless projects that have nothing to do with learning. The school is very bad at handling bullying and peer drama. Overall, Parish is a school that is designed for rich snobs that want to do nothing but party and have everything come easy to them. Not everyone is like that, but a majority are. To be honest, you can get a much more beneficial education at a very good public school like HP, LH, or JJP. $21,000-$24,000 a year is too hefty of a price tag for a party school like Parish.S Dunkan

Parish Episcopal has been a great school for all 3 of our girls – each with different interests. I love that they can experience an inclusive and supportive community while growing and learning about the unique individuals that they are as they. From passion projects in Lower School, to challenging academic programs and diverse arts and athletics programs in Middle and Upper School, there are many paths to explore. And perhaps more important than all the programs offered are the amazing teachers along the journey who help shape these kids into young adults.Alyson Jackson

Parish Summer Camp has been great this year. We have done the All Day Camp (7:30-6pm) and many of the individual camps (Ballerina Princess Camp, Sandbox Science, Cheer, Manuscript). Patty's team has got things running well. This year they offered carpool services at the end of camp and hot lunches which has been wonderful. My daughter leaves excited and comes home happy and tired. The camp provides before and aftercare from 7:30-9:00 and then from 3:00-6:00 if you choose to do the individual morning and afternoon sessions.J Walsh

The sermons are relevant, gospel-centered, Bible-based, and every week I am challenged to see how the gospel impacts my family, my work, my service, my time, everything. Wonderful kids and student ministries with facilities getting a refresh some time in 2019. Also a new parking structure being built to accommodate a growing church. Traditional and Contemporary music styles too. Both excellent quality, just different. Great Sunday school opportunities to grow, not just for information but for transformation!Andrew Franklin

Our 5 year old daughter is now beginning her fourth year at Alcuin and we could not be happier with our experience. She loves her teachers and the other kids and is happy to go to school every morning. She started at 18 months old, and the school was a great help in teaching her basic life skills (potty training, dressing herself, pouring herself a drink, cleaning up after herself etc.). They have a real focus on assisting kids in learning how to be be independent/self-sufficient/problem-solvers. I also really like their "grace and courtesy" lessons. For example, at her fifth birthday party, our daughter was (completely unprompted) politely introducing her friends from her class to her cousins. We have found Alcuin to be a positive and safe learning environment and would recommend it to any parents of young children.Patricia Freshwater

A healthy and happy place to develop young minds! Prior to having our own children, my wife was a children’s ballet instructor at a prominent studio. This is when we discovered something in common between some of her brightest and mature students during her classes. So many were attending Alcuin! Once we were expecting, we began our journey to find the right home for our little one and Alcuin was obviously on the list. We did our homework on many schools and toured many other recognized institutions. The day we walked through the doors of Alcuin we knew we had found the right spot. Now 2 years later, and expecting our 2nd, we know that we have made the right decision for our children’s future. It’s a beautiful thing to see your young one grow the way Alcuin kids do. KD Conservatory is a fantastic, intensive, pro-active program that will teach you everything you need to know to confidently enter the world of entertainment on any level, be that live theatre, television, broadcast, film on ANY side of the camera (actors, writers, directors, producers, all forms of the crew, etc…), as well as build you a rock solid foundation of acting technique, acute physical awareness, and an entertainment business acumen on which to accurately and responsibly make choices about your work. Furthermore, KD Conservatory has not only aided my education and lead me to professional work in my industry, but the school has facilitated the same success to my circle of alumni (of no less than a dozen that I can recall off-hand) who all continue to make money doing what they love- acting, singing, dancing, music directing, directing, producing, and teaching. Advice: Don't EVER accept advice on acting from somebody who is not a successful working actor. Don't seek their counsel because they know nothing. People who say that this school is a scam are either not serious enough about their career to understand the training they really need. OR, they are already beyond the teaching they could potentially receive at KD and should, therefor, already be booking professional gigs. Lastly, BE ADSIVED, NOTHING WILL BE HANDED TO YOU. I have been training at KD Conservatory for 4 weeks now as a Musical Theatre major and let me tell you that this place is amazing. There are some amazing opportunities from training with Michael Serrechia and putting on Musical performances to learning Ballet technique to learning piano, increasing your acting abilities, jazz, tap, vocal performance and so much more!!! My experience was great! My daughter's teacher was amazing! Not to often you find a teacher who loves what they do and are good at it! I'd recommend this school to my family and friends! Update! 4years later and my daughter still go to this school! We took a year and a half off but came right back! The teachers are still great and they have an awesome desk lady. Overall this is a great school, But the Dean is very discriminating and believe to be very racist . My son will not return next year. The teachers call my job every day about petty things, such as speaking without raising your hand, getting up out of your seat without asking, talking, asking other students questions, not having a pencil for class and so on….. just RIDICULOUS AND DON'T MAKE ANY SENSE. I find it really sad that there are so many bad reviews because of superficial problems. I have attended this school since first grade and will be in 12th grade next year. So i felt I had to write this in order to give an honest and real review. I am from an all American family and through this school I have learned to speak French fluently and not just fluently like I could get by, no fluently in the sense that I know little expressions and can differentiate slight accent differences. Not saying I'm absolutely flawless but DIS has gone above and beyond what my parents had originally hoped for. In second grade I went to Quebec on a class trip. How many schools do that? In fifth we went to Paris. In tenth I went to Florence to study art. To try to compare this school with any other American school is a joke. DIS is in a different ball park. And sure we may have a quirky way of doing things. But do most kindergarteners learn to write cursive or to speak 4 different languages? I think not. We do things differently and if people misunderstand this, it's their loss. I don't have to show you the statistics of who gets in to what colleges when they graduate from our school. You can look that up. What I care more about the world knowing in regards to my school is how much I have been supported by it. People are genuinely kind and if they aren't the administration is quick to take action. Looking back, they have prevented, on so many occasions, a potential for bullying or exclusion. I have grown with my class as a family and I love them. The teachers even when I haven't liked them have been excellent at their jobs. I couldn't ask for more. (Sorry for the agression but I take the bad ratings rather personally because this school is my family.) Sure we may be a bit disprganized to put it lightly, but I wouldn't trade my experience for any amount of organisation. Organisation only matters so much as compared to the level of my education. I just find it aweful that people would discount DIS over first impressions, miscommunications and superficial problems.Anna

Dedicated intelligent and remarkable teachers, each of whim has a broad, open cultural view of the world. When you leave your child in the care of a school you need full confidence that the social and emotional environment is warm, safe, and well structured. This school provides that. The languages and academic excellence are almost a given. Yes, he reads in three languages. Yes, he understands the historical relevance of ancient civilizations. Yes, he writes code in Scratch. All good private schools do this. But the joy my child shows in the morning heading to school, and the babble of exciting new ideas and conversations with interesting friends when I pick him up- the hugs from the teacher and tears at the end of the school year- these are the stories that show the great values of this school. In spite of the high academic ranking there is a strong focus on the whole child and careful limits on homework quantity. Time for living. Well judged. (Btw- I see a false report or two here. A supposed teacher writes of focus on star tests? There is no Star testing in this school. It’s an IB school. I think it’s a fake review!)Family Zarazaga

This school is great. There’s several false comments on here purporting to have actual knowledge of the school. I.e., someone who used to work there and said the school had STARR testing…someone saying they do Facebook Live at work. DIS doesn’t do the STARR test. I’d like to see this alleged live video. Where’s the link? I’m not sure who is trying to start this negative campaign for the school, but this is a great school and my family (kids and my wife) love this school. I just came back from a trip to Montreal with the 3rd graders, and it was amazing to see how well these kids were progressing with their French. Amazing school with teachers that care.Andrew Garcia

Overlooking scenic White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is 66 acres of lush gardens to enjoy the beauty of all four seasons. The trees, the seasonal flowers, the ornamental shrubs, the different plant collections and the grass, everything is absolutely gorgeous with lots of water features. Even on sunny hot day, it feels cooler and you can enjoy as there is plenty of shades of the trees with many seating arrangements. There is lot of walking involved so better wear proper walking shoes. The Arboretum not only gives the relaxation and enjoyment, but it also gives an opportunity to learn horticulture and for education and research. The outdoor festivals, concerts and art shows also take place here including the private events like weddings etc. There are lots of photo opportunities to create lifelong memories. Since there are paved walkways everywhere, wheelchairs are easily accessible. It was not crowded also, so you can enjoy at your pace with your space. The parking charges in addition to the admission fees seem higher, otherwise everything was great! Must visit if you are in Dallas.Ashok Patel

This place was AMAZING!! We came here for the first time specifically for their pumpkin village but loved roaming the rest of the park. over 90,000 pumpkins are on display. and was obsessed with the pumpkin patch! They do such a good job maintaining all the plants and flowers year-round. Plenty of gardens to relax, take pictures, enjoy some lunch, and explore. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was like nothing I have ever seen. Right now tickets are being sold online with the request of your chosen date and time block though tickets can be purchased once you get there but need to wait in the queue on weekends and the same with parking. So many picturesque spots, and it was way bigger than I thought it was going to be which I loved. We got a lot of steps in too! The chicken salad sandwich at lunch was delicious and make sure you check out the tasting pavilion by white rock lake area. They make delicious recipes for you to try each week. By the end of our visit, we left with a membership for two because your tickets get to go towards the membership. Can’t wait to come back very soon for the concerts and events!Katharine Hsu

We have had a membership at The Heard Museum for almost 3 years. My kids enjoy coming here and it’s fairly easy from where we live to come often. The dinosaurs are always fun and my daughters love the Hoot Owl Trail. I also love how they have managed and cared for the boardwalk trails. They added a new covered bench out over the wetlands and it’s great! I gotta take away a star for one main reason. The amount of poison ivy is outrageous. While maybe the majority of it is off trail, there is plenty growing over the trail side edges. My daughter managed to get some on her face once when she bent down to pick up something and I know she never left the gravel path. Her eye swelled up (it really was awful!), she had blisters on her cheek and arm, and we had a doctor visit because I had no idea what was going on! I’m sure that stuff grows like wildfire and is hard to manage, but be aware that just about everywhere you look at the Heard, you’ll see poison ivy. I also saw some growing in the children’s log cabin play area. That part of the park is what should really be carefully managed. Overall, we love the place! I wish there was more that could be done about the poison ivy, but I understand it’s a source for food for some wildlife.Lauren Vanderlaan

This is my favorite place to walk in the north Dallas/ McKinney area. I love the fact that the trails and woodlands are not heavily maintained; it's as close as I can come to a real walk in the woods without driving an hour or more. Plus, I feel relatively safe here, although I do look out for fire ants, poison ivy, and other wild inhabitants. While probably not the best spot for infants or toddlers, it's a great place to start teaching kids how to exist comfortably and stay safe in the wild. There is a nice selection of trails to walk, so I can choose according to the weather, the season, my energy level, etc. Birding can be fabulous here, especially during migration, and there is a good choice of habitats. The only reason I don't rate them a 5 is they're closed on Mondays, which is my day off. Maybe someday… Wait time

Lemurs, and Racoons, and Dinosaurs, Oh my! My family and I had a great day at this museum and wildlife sanctuary. It offered lots of hands-on interactive activities to keep my son interested, and a lot of reading material to help us learn about everything we were seeing. My son absolutely loves dinosaurs, we were so happy to see that they have an awesome dinosaur trail where each dinosaur along the trail actually moves and make sounds. It was pretty fun to guess what dinosaur we would see next while walking the trail. If you have time, they also have a variety of other trails you can walk as well. The Lemurs were lots of fun to watch. I highly recommend checking it out for yourself. Great for all ages.Monica Hernandez

I've only been inside the place a few times for school and because my artwork has been displayed there. It's a place where you want to go if you want to go somewhere nice and artsy, but not struggle through the mayhem's of downtown Texas traffic.
