20 Best Summer Programs In Baton Rouge, LA (2022 Updated)

In trying to tell my students how to get to Music building, I discovered you have no numerical address to be able to give my students. Several ways were used on the web to get this info for these families and none were found. Please improve your online information. It is not user friendly. These students play at the music building in the morning and cannot put an address in their GPS. Surely, you can improve your home page. You have phone numbers but no real address except to say the newer Music building. For most people that is insufficient information. These families have never been to the New Music building. It's a nice museum if you are interested in the military and history of the US. The USS Kidd is a warship that ha seen so many battles. Going on it was a great experience. There are two items of improvement that cost them one star. First and most important: the place is not wheel accessible. This surprised me. A disabled vet on a wheelchair cannot enjoy this place. 😒 the second problem is lack of guidance and explanation. There was no staff to explain about this amazing warship. I know staff is always a problem. But in 2022, you definitely can use technology to have some multimedia tools for visitors. Visited on

Some nice exhibits, including battleship models and explanations of naval warfare in different conflicts, but the main attraction is obviously the USS Kidd itself. The ship is moored just outside the museum, and there's a self guided tour which takes you through many of the ship's compartments and onto many different levels of the deck. You can climb into the seat of some of the 40mm guns and into the "cabins" of the larger 5 inch guns. Really gives you a great insight to what it was like as a sailor or marine in WW2. Admission was about $13 per adult, and we spent approximately two hours in total. Visited on

This is an awesome place! The history here is amazing. It's a self guided tour and all you have to do is follow the numbered arrows on the ship. There is a nice gift shop and the museum is in the same building. The staff was absolutely wonderful from the gift shop and on the ship. Elijah was the docent on the ship to help get you started. He was awesome and full of great info about the USS KIDD! I highly recommend going here. Especially if you like WWll history! Visited on

This is such a great place for kids to receive 1-on-1 help with their school work, especially when most students are learning virtually. They did a great job creating a safe, fun space that encourages learning. You can securely drop your child off, knowing they will be in good hands as they complete their school assignments. I can personal guaranty this is the very best University. The professors actually really care about the students. I only went there one semester beginning 11th grade and the curriculum was already harder than most of my college classes. They don't like transfers coming in late like me because transfers typically get left in the dust because the kids there are way ahead of public school kids. I held my own; however, the school had an abnormal amount of meathead bullies. My best friend there had his lung punctured when a jock impaled him with a javelin in a close quarter attack. All the other jocks stood around laughing. PE should be optional. That's where the bullies use exercise as an excuse to terrorize in my opinion. I did like the school though. Smart kids and overall a kind place.Adam White

Worst school ever. I attended form 1st grade to 10th grade and HATED it. I was not taken into consideration whatsoever. The faculty literally are watching you just to catch you slip up once and get you in trouble for it. Unless you are straight A+++ and a perfect child, you will have a terrible time here. I graduated from Episcopal and I loved it. I never had a problem with any kids or anything and I had a great relationship with all my teachers. I can’t say enough good things about this place to do it justice. The people working at this non-profit are so compassionate, professional and welcoming. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and a neighbor mentioned Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge to me before we met our oncology social worker. So I just wondered into this place one afternoon. I was expecting to be told I needed an appointment. But no! They acted as if they’d been expecting me. They gave me the best and most helpful information on activities ranging from counseling services, fitness, group meetings and a wealth of other knowledge. They have this whole “coping with cancer” thing down. It wasn’t sad or depressing either. And they have a wig room!!! I am only covering a fraction of what this nonprofit offers. ** if you are reading this review, I can only assume you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer. I know I’m just a stranger on the Internet, but this stranger wants you to know that you aren’t alone. 2022 Review updated: Nicest gym in Louisiana. 40k students a year paying for it, not shocking that it is. (every semester I paid a UREC FEE and if I didn't I couldn't access the rec) The pool, indoor running track and ramp, infared sauna, specialized workout equipment… It's amazing. Cons: -Semester rate for a membership is insane. Over $400.00 for two semesters. When you spend over 80k for two degrees at LSU, you'd wish they would give an alumni discount, or masters degree discount. -Lord help if masks are ever considered. Being forced back in 2020 to wear a mask in a squat rack while masks can be taken off at restaurants is insane. Specially being forced to wear outside on the pool deck. -Bags being forced to be in lockers, and shoes not being allowed off while stretching is quite frustrating. -More foam rollers, resistance bands, belt squat, bigger sauna, wider bench press pads, nicer bar bells, etc… lots of things I would love to see added for how much money this place makes yearly.Nathan Beard

I love working out here, but having the speakers blare messages about wearing masks every 30 minutes really takes away from the experience. I understand you're trying to get the students' attention, but the excessive volume is completely unnecessary and hurts my ears every time it plays. A simple sign outside the UREC, which is already there, will do or turning down the speaker volume a couple dozen decibals. Then if students don't take a moment to read the sign or listen to the message at a more reasonable volume then it's on them if they get removed from the facility.Lakelyn Lumpkin

Forced to pay for this as a student, can’t bring guests under 18 (if under 18 their parent has to be physically present), guests have to have an ID, if your into weightlifting the urec is way pricier than other gyms, I got accused of being another student who started a fight (probably because we both look hispanic or something idk). I love pottery painting shops! It is so much fun for all ages and the first time I went to Throw Me Something I absolutely loved it! The staff was presentable and friendly, the store was clean and welcoming. The something happened… While I still go because its kinda the only option in BR for pottery painting the staff as become much less professional. The store is not near as clean and welcoming. I don't really look forward to sitting and enjoying myself in the shop. With COVID they started doing take and paint kits which I LOVE! This is such a great place, my kids love coming here because there is always something new to do and see. From watching and learning to make pottery on the wheel to simply painting items and marvel at the finished product after its fired. Let me start off by saying I’ve been in the fitness industry and doing martial arts combined for about 15 years. With that I have never seen such amazing customer service, community driven, and such a structured facility like the Core UFC Gym here off of Sherwood. The staff and coach’s here are down to earth, focused on helpings others, and determined to get others to meet their fitness/martial arts goals! The entire gym is fantastic with everything you would need to accomplish what you are set out achieve, the facility is very clean, very organized, and all around has top notch equipment. I know some people struggle to join gyms because they fear of what others may think about starting out on their fitness journey but let me stop you and tell that this place makes you feel at home, makes you feel that you are a part of a family, and you definitely feel like you have accomplished a small victory every time you leave the gym! By far the best gym that I've ever been a member of. The best part of my day is coming in and getting an awesome workout! Joining UFC gym has been an incredibly positive experience for me. We absolutely love Dynamics Therapy Specialists and highly recommend this place! Everybody there makes you feel comfortable and we really love all the staff there. Bonus, the owners are therapists and moms so I promise they will understand what you and your child/children are going through! They also offer alternative methods of therapy if you are looking for something more than traditional speech/OT. Big shoutout to our therapists Katie and Avery that have done a tremendous job with Julian so far. They have worked wonders with him and they have even been able to keep my son’s attention with teletherapy during covid, which is no easy task! My daughter has been a patient here for 3 years now. She has a mild brain malformation that affects her language and reading abilities. These ladies do all the research on methods and techniques to help the individual. Laura has developed a bond and trust with my daughter that goes above and beyond what I expected. My daughter's confidence has improved because of the success she experiences due to the techniques Laura has taught her for reading comprehension and writing. Stacy Levy was highly recommended by a coworker when we learned our daughter was dyslexic. Stacy's been working with her for about a year and the difference is amazing. Over the past five years, my six children have taken lessons at BRMS. They have had private lessons in learning how to play piano, guitar, bass, drums, and voice. The teachers for the private lessons have been excellent. I’m so pleased with my children’s progress. Four of them have been in The Young Band Nation program. This has been an awesome experience for my kids. In this program, they get to be in a real band and actually perform at real gigs around town. My son began Mini Miracles in October of 2019 and I am so glad a friend pushed me in to their door. It took my son a few weeks to get accustomed from going to his old daycare but Mini Miracles never gave up on him! Crystal called and followed daily with his progress and behavior. He cried EVERY SINGLE MORNING for about a month and their patience with him was just overwhelmingly warm. When he did get acclimated to the center he thrived! My son was saying numbers and alphabets before he turned 1! They continue to keep the center cleaned and welcoming for the children. The professionalism is beyond amazing. You are always aware of what is going on daily with your child and their involvement with the center. The affection from the teachers and administrators to my son gives me comfort and security in knowing that when my child is at Mini Miracles he is not only learning but growing. My daughter attended Mini Miracles during the summer at their very first location many years ago. And it was awesome. Years later, my son began there at the age of 2 months. He remained there until he was 4 and ready for school. I can honestly say this is the best daycare in Baton Rouge! The environment is like a family. The gym facilities are incredible. My complaint is regarding management. There is a lack of concern for member safety. Due to an ongoing investigation I cannot share certain details, but a member joined the gym after I did after agreeing to stay away from me. The same member has threatened me and has repeatedly tried to intimidate me. Someone connected to her who is also a member threatened me. I've shared this issues privately and attached proof to management. I informed 2 managers of this situation when several friends reached out to me expressing concern for my safety because of this person. Both individuals discussed their relationship with the gym owner, Joshua Roberts who is not known to me. They also claimed the gyms lawyer was involved but no one contacted my lawyer or myself. Be careful with your children as this woman threatens others that she takes her gun with her everywhere and posts it all over social media near her gym bag. Why do you need a gun to work out at a family gym? I will be joining a gym with more concern about safety of members near my new home.M G

Exercise that feels like playtime! My husband and I can't get enough of the Adventure classes. So far we tried trapeze, contortion, and calisthenics but we've barely scratched the surface and keep coming back for more. Plus, the facilities here are really extensive. At least 3 different weight rooms, including a bodyweight room and outdoor HIIT training. Multiple studios for yoga, cycling, circus arts, parkour, gymnastics, and dance. They have indoor/outdoor pools, hot tub, and a whirlpool/steam room/sauna in both M/F locker rooms. This weekend we celebrated my little girl’s birthday party at Tumbles. As a mom of two and one on the way, I wanted to book a place that was reasonably priced and kids of different ages can enjoy. I had never heard of Tumbles before, but after talking with the owners, Brody and his wife, I knew this was going to be a great place to celebrate her birthday! To say she and the rest of the party crew had a blast is an understatement. I was highly impressed how clean and friendly the staff were. If we were missing something (cake knife, napkins, plates, etc) they were there to the rescue! I loved being able to have our own private party room so that we could enjoy cake and presents.
