20 Best Sonography Programs In Tucson, AZ (2022 Updated)

I absolutely love the RT program here, the instructors are probably the best I have ever had. They have super high standards, but they also help you reach those high standards. The school is a bit pricey, but you get helpful instructors, with real experience, and who are ready to assist you whenever you need it. Plus, the hands on experience in class is a huge benefit. The only two downsides is not the program itself, but the food and beverage options in the school “cafe”, and the uniforms. For the price of the program, the uniforms are very stiff, and definitely nothing close to decent quality. So, if your enrolling, make sure to put some $$ aside to buy comfortable scrubs that actually fit you. As for the cafe, it would be great to have a real coffee machine (not instant coffee), so we don’t have the need to go off campus for caffeine. Overall though, I love my program, the instructors, and the new career PIMA is helping me prepare for. I definitely would recommend PIMA to anyone who wants to actually start a new medical career!Christina Romero

This school is easy to get started at. I was admitted to the RT program immediately after taking some brief tests and completing a mock study schedule. It is not a cheap option, but the wait list for cheaper schools is two years long…so I decided to get my schooling done rather than wait. I hope that the high price of education here all goes to the instructors, because they are the only worthwhile part of attending here. The admissions staff will make whatever promises they need to make to get you signed up, even if it is something they can’t deliver. The facility and equipment is old. Choosing Pima Medical Institute and their Respiratory Therapy program was one of the best decisions my family and I have made. The program was very thorough and straightforward in the teachings. The thing I enjoyed the most was the constant engagement you were able to have with the instructors. Everyone is very open and willing to help in any situation whether it was school related or just life in general. The PD is amazing and she will do everything in her power to make sure you are not only a successful graduate but you are a successful RRT for many years to come. The school is great if you are a nurse. Don’t get me wrong I have nurses in my family and love them dearly. However if you are going for any other programs but nursing just know that you might be forgotten. The teachers in the program you select will do anything to help you get ahead and make sure you graduate. They will provide tools and even one on one sessions. Graduation was bitter sweet. I made and found my footing to do what I love. But everyone one else was forgotten. My family thought they were at the wrong graduation because all they talked about was the nursing. Not even a mention of any other program and those in that program working hard to be where they are today. I am currently attending the MBC program and I absolutely love it! My instructor has made going back to school very enjoyable and I truly look forward to class every time. She is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I feel that I will be ready to start my new career by the end of my time here at Carrington. I had a great experience with Kinsee, she was very helpful and giving me clear information on what to expect from the medical assisting program. I was shown around the building I was explained what every room was used for and where I could go to seek help for every situation I would need. Wether it be help to look for a job, break room, finance room and more. I was shown the ins and outs of the building, the classroom I would be in. This is the premiere place if you are interested in getting into the medical field! I am currently in the Medical Assistant program and completed the Nursing Assistant program last year. When on externship for the Nursing, it was a night and day difference between Pima and the other schools. Pima clearly has a finger on the pulse (no pun intended) of what medical offices are looking for and delivers exceptionally. When I was looking at getting into a program, naturally I started looking at the Community Colleges given the cost. Many have lengthy waiting lists to enter and the quality of education pales in comparison to Pima. I knew of Pima and had heard good things, but thought I would not be able to afford it. After some saving I put myself through the NA program (it was $1600.00) as the US Dept. of Ed doesn't offer financial aid for such a low amount. However, being in the MA program, I was in fact able to obtain financial aid. Pima is a bit more expensive than other places. However, the programs are fast tracked because you are learning core subjects, things you will actually use in the real world. Not electives and other nonsensical classes that aim to have you be a "well rounded individual" but ultimately do a disservice as the length of time to graduate and get a job is much longer. Plus, if you're looking at the medical field, you probably have an idea of what it takes and are already pretty well rounded. I am about to turn 40. It is never too late to get into a new career! If you are looking to get on the fast track to a career and are interested in learning in a fun and focused environment, I highly recommend coming to Pima. I attended Pima medical institution to become a veterinarian assistant. I love on how they teach you in the program on what to know in order to become an assistant. The teacher Dr. Watson I love on her energy and the way she teaches the class, she can be pushy, but she never gives up on you easily. Im now working at an awesome clinic and I’m really loving my job, the veterinarians they’re very nice to work with. I’m thinking of becoming a veterinarian technician so I’ll definitely come back to Pima to attend classes soon. I started the Respiratory Therapy program in 2007, as a non-traditional student seeking some sort of career in the medical field, but having no background in medicine whatsoever. It was hands down the best decision I ever made in terms of career choices. My instructors and the Program Director were patient, knowledgeable, and so caring. I graduated and was able to find work in the field right away here in Tucson. I loved the culture at Pima Medical Institute so much that I came back 10 years later to teach, helping to educate future RTs in the field. I whole heartedly recommend PMI-Tucson nursing program. This is not your typical nursing school. Yes, it is accelerated, but they care! I am a student that travels from Phoenix every week to attend school, and both the program director Mrs. Wiebelhaus and the clinical director Mrs. Morelli regularly check-in to make sure I am doing okay. When I got sick and had to miss two weeks of class, my instructors made sure I had all the notes and homework so that I did not fall behind. When I found Pima, I was still trying to finish high school. A friend told me that Pima could help me with that. So I decided to schedule the appointment and meet with admissions. Walking through the front door of Pima, you're greeted by the most friendly people with such welcoming smiles. Everyday, I walk through the doors to go to class and I always get a "Hi Hannah!" from Melissa at the front desk. It always makes me smile. I met with Mandy for my admissions meeting and as we started to talk about me and why I was there, I began to get emotional. She listened. She let me cry. And she helped me find a way to start my journey. And I couldn't thank her enough. When I went into Pima that day, I didn't think it was going to be a program I'd finish. I hadn't finished anything yet. So I didn't see this working either. Boy, was I wrong! After meeting with Mandy, I got to meet Stacey, the director. She was amazing! We talked and laughed and she helped me feel so welcome at Pima. It took me less than a month to finish the half of high school I needed because this team at Pima had my back. They checked on me and made sure I had the help and support I needed. And even invited me to a graduation ceremony to show me that even though I wasn't graduating a Pima program, it still mattered that I graduated! Mandy helped me find a program that fit my personality. And now, I'm 2 weeks away from starting my externship in Phlebotomy. Mrs. Tracey is an absolutely wonderful teacher! She has taught us all how to safely and correctly perform Phlebotomy. She's the best teacher I have ever had. She supports us and cares about us. I am currently in the Vet Assistant program here at Pima!!! I have not been in school for 25 years so I was really nervous and hesitant to start. I must say I am so happy I did. Choosing Pima has been the greatest decision I’ve ever made. Miss Lori was amazing with my prerequisite classes. Miss Julie Carlson is my current on campus teacher for my Vet Assistant program and I have learned so much from her. I am so grateful that she is my main teacher for my program! My experience in the Vet Tech and Vet Assist programs have been so amazing. The teachers here try their best to help their students and open opportunities for them. Chris in the Assist programs was an amazing teacher and wanted the best for her students and truly wanted to see her students succeed. Kino collage is a great program to help you become the best medical assistant, they have professionals teachers such as DO’s, Rn’s, PA’s and experienced MA’s.These amazing teachers will help you to ask the right questions to patients and earn critical thinking. Although things were different because of Covid, they tried their best to give us more clinicals hours in classroom since we did not have midterm. We also dissected a pig and sutured chicken breast. They will also help you to pass your certification exam. Phil will try his hardest to give you the placement that you want for externship and once you are out there you are more than ready than you think. They will celebrate with you your accomplishments outside of school. I was concerned to start the program since English is my second language but they will help you to be more comfortable throughout the program. Kino is still growing, which is important to give feedback and here is mine. Kino needs to motivate their students a little more to remind them why they want to be MA since as students some of us can get unmotivated at times. Some classes were repetitive I believe their should be more communication between teachers to avoid this to see what topics need to be review and which don’t. I believe we all needed more practice with medical terminology and homework on a few things rather than reading the chapters. Our schedule were different each day which made it a little hard to prepare for that class. There was one teacher who would favoritism students which was unprofessional. Lastly grading and supplies were given to us late, which was a little frustrating because you do not know on what you need to work on more than others. Overall my experience with kino was good most of the time and I appreciate the work that they have given us to become the best medical assistant.Yeneth Victoria

I just completed this program at Kino College. In the beginning I was nervous about enrolling at Kino because I didn’t know what to expect and didn’t know anyone from here either. Throughout the course I got to know all of my classmates and we became friends. Phil and Mr. Wilson go out of their way to ensure each student receives the right educational tools. If you’re struggling on a specific topic the instructor will go over anything you need them to. The first few months you’re hitting the books, studying for the NCCT exam, and taking tests. The last few months is when you go into more of the hands on stuff such as rooming, taking vitals, ekg’s, venipuncture, injections, suturing, and so much more. Then towards the end you complete 200 hours of externship. For externship Phil tries his best to place you at a location where they are hiring with hopes that when you’re done you’re offered a job. If not he will try his best to find you a job interview. I am grateful I came across this program 9 months ago and now I am a Certified Medical Assistant! I am glad that I made right decision to chose Kino college to become an MA. I love that we got taught by different medical providers and learn for their experiences. I also love the hands on experience was awesome. I also liked that we got to do our midterm-ship at actually hospital to work with real patients and get that experience. I loved that the instructors teach us in a very good pace to help us understand and get the best learning experiences. For externship I like that they try their best to put you in the right Practice field you want to work at. I noticed that there aren’t a lot of reviews for this school campus’ LPN program yet. So, here’s mine: First of all, let me start by saying that this school is legit! I’ve just graduated from their LPN program. I have also recently sat for my NCLEX and passed! I’m celebrating! And, I’ve just received notice that nursing license is officially active. So for any prospective students hesitant if they should enroll or not, wondering if this school legit, do know that, yes, this is an accredited and legit institution (accredited by ACCSC and approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing). There are pros and cons though, and reasons why I couldn’t give this review a 5 star. As of the school’s areas of improvement, wish there was a more active communication during the school’s program. There were a lot of changes while our cohort was in the program (change of management, change of process, and even instructors). For a moment, we felt like we were in a circus and riding a roller coaster. There just had to be more structure, organization, and a proper cascade of communication which I would say I’ve seen them try to improve and have been working on towards the later part of our program. I hope they’ve worked on that now and still are. Another downside is that this school is only nationally accredited (not regionally) which means it’s harder to transfer your credits somewhere else. I still went for it because I wanted to skip the daunting task of doing useless prerequisites and I was in a time crunch. Price-wise, this school is expensive! But, if you have the means to support yourself, don’t let this stop you. Oh, last grievance, our class did not get a graduation! Lol We were pretty bummed. They blamed COVID of course. Now, let me talk about the positives and what I love about this school. We had amazing instructors! At least in the beginning and on our last block. Shout out to Bill, Nilsa, and Tahira! They really cared about our success. They were patient enough to answer our questions, give us resources, listened to our needs, and made themselves available for us to learn and grow in knowledge and skills. They understood nursing is a tough program and never judged our learning capabilities but believed in us. I also liked how our schedule was a hybrid of in-person and zoom. The schedule allowed me to work while in school and allowed me to still maintain a social life. We need balance and this school allowed that. Another thing I liked, though not perfect, was the program. It was work but it wasn’t overwhelming. As long as you do your part, put in work, and study, you’ll be just fine. Perhaps, it wasn’t much of a challenge for me because I created my own study curriculum for myself Lol We were given tools to supplement and support our learning such as ATI and additional content mastery books. This helped me prep for our finals and even the NCLEX. A huge plus, even after our cohort graduated from the program, we were still given school resources to prep for the NCLEX. Instructors conducted review sessions via zoom. They’ve sent us study materials and learning documents to help review. They were there to answer questions and room for our class to support each other. This school also had the infrastructure and skills labs to help us learn unfamiliar processes. It’s almost complete with all the tools we need to practice nursing skills. So overall, this school may not be the best but it is still a good school to go to. For me, it truly worked out time-wise and what I needed to accomplish. Look, I’m already a nurse in a year’s time. No waitlist. No further delays. Of course, everyone’s situation and goals are different, but I can say this school helped with mine. If you think this school’s program(s) is for you, go for it. Don’t let your fears and apprehension scare you. I hope this review provides helpful information and help those who need to make an educational decision if they should enroll into Smith Chason’s LPN program or not. I graduated from west coast June 2020. When I was in school I went through a tough time. The staff was so hands on helping me get through school and changing my schedule. I cannot thank Kallie enough. She is part of the reason I finished school when I wanted to give up. She went above and beyond for me and made sure she kept in contact. I also had the best teachers that really prepared me for the field. Lastly I want to thank Jason for helping me land my dream job!! I currently work full time in Tempe with his help! I recently graduated from WCUI with a Bachelors degree in Cardiovascular Sonography. The staff is incredibly understanding and helpful. I had my second child while in school and they were incredibly helpful and made all the necessary accommodations for me to return back to school with a newborn at home. The instructors are INCREDIBLE. Each and every one of them took the time to work with me one on one to ensure I understood the course material and to help improve my scanning abilities. They always take the time to really get to know each student, and they truly care about each student. The staff worked very hard to place me at an amazing clinical site where I now work. Just visiting to get my daughter moved in for her first year. Spent the day walking around the campus. It is a nice walk with a light rain. Not too hot today. Lots of students, lots of building. The student union is fast food central with all the popular eateries present. Communication with parents could use some improvement. We expected to attend some sessions with my daughter but once we arrived we were informed it was for students only. Closing out the evening watching the marching band in their first public performance. My daughter loves the campus and is looking forward to the start of classes next week.Stacey Brewer

Went to football game and had lots of fun. But I was surprised when I found out the hard way that the concession stands don't take cash. They only take cards. It made it hard because we took cash. Luckily it was a night game because we wouldn't have been able to sit in the sun without water. Also lots of people had to go back to their cars and leave their purses and bags. The Arizona Sands Club is so wonderful. The atmosphere is second to none and the food is phenomenal. Chef Hogg is a master of his trade. I've never had a bad meal here. This place is extremely extremely unhelpful when it comes to helping you get into classes if you are a non-traditional student. I have a college degree with a strong background in science. I have come to this location 3 times now trying to register for ONE course. The lady I first saw was very helpful but unfortunately I didn't have the class I needed correct so she gave me clearance to apply to the wrong class. I came back a couple of hours later to speak with them and register for the right class, and all the sudden the advisor at the front, named Ryan Smith, told me that he would need to "research" my general biology class to see if it fit the criteria of a general biology class offered at Pima. I took my general biology class (along with 2 biochemistry classes, a microbiology class, genetics, immunology) at an accredited university. He was extremely unhelpful, and rude and told me to email the instructor. I have yet to hear back from the instructor, so I went in again today. Same rude guy that told me he couldn't help me. I just want to register for my class. Its ridiculous that this guy put up that many roadblocks for a good student who just wanted to register for a class. They should be more understanding that students have jobs and other engagements and don't want to bother professors. He just told me to "keep emailing the professor". The young woman working the front desk has such a rude attitude that while sitting here doing homework for the last hour I have watched multiple people come in with a sunny disposition and walk away looking like a deflated balloon. Perhaps she’s frustrated with her job and having to ask people to wear a mask however her tone of voice is demeaning and to have this personality front and center representing student success seems counter intuitive. Just a heads up to Pima staff and students/future students. The facility itself is lovely, clean, and great for educational purposes though.Desitheray

This campus is my least visited of Pima Campuses. For starters, its pretty much out of the way to get to (especially difficult when there is heavy traffic on supplier streets such as during rush hour on Irvington). Additionally, the set of classes it hosts are an obscure assortment and as such most Pina students won't end up setting foot in the halls of Desert Vista at any point of their educational career. The campus is landscaped beautifully. However, the staff and a few instructors leave something to be desired. I entered the facility to ask for the Veterans office, and was asked for my ID and given a ticket immediately without having my question addressed first. I waited for a few minutes then asked why I needed a ticket for the office. She then apologized and said she assumed I wanted Veteran benefits. She then proceeded to ask numerous people about the office and directed me to the location. Sadly, it was a small closet room that is unmanned with a few bits of information laid out on the table. Another reason for giving such a low score is the instructors. I like to meet my instructors so I can introduce myself and assess what they expect from me during the course. Unfortunately, I had one instructor ask me why I wanted to meet her. She simply stated the syllabus should have answered all of my questions and if not, then maybe I should enroll in a different online course. Needless to say, I dropped the class. With that attitude I don't need it. I pay my money for quality instructors with a good attitude. No crappy ones. If only the staff and instructors could match the campus view, then they would be on to something. DO NOT DO DENTAL HYGIENE****** Anyone considering waiting for dental hygiene DONT‼️ waited on a 4 year waitlist and got all my pre requisites done as early as I can, and my start date was 2022. I tried contacting my advisor since I was approaching my start date but turns out they don't work there anymore and I had to go through so many hoops and dead ends to find the contact info for my new one🤦🏿‍♂️ and when I finally talk to them it turns out I need ANOTHER class they added on to the requirements for the associates. Oh And then they also require a COVID VACCINE which I don't have. Basically now I have to re enroll (which I won't be doing) because the school can't be bothered to send an automated email updating requirements to anyone on the waitlist, and wasted 4 years of my life waiting for this.B E

I took several classes online through this campus, and it was pretty easy to find my way around, but it is a huge campus. I recently went there with my son's school on a field trip to watch a performance of The Sun Serpent. It was great! The staff was friendly and organized well. They even let our school take a picture with the cast of the play!!! It was amazing! The kids all enjoyed the show, and learned quite a few new things! The cast even took questions at the end about the show… So they had learned a bit about the ques for theater and the importance of rehearsals… And to go with the flow because sometimes things don't go according to plan. Definitely a great field trip for kiddos!!!Melissa Ann

Excellent course, Dale and Wade are fantastic instructors. Class sizes are small usually 2-4 students so you will get plenty of time behind the wheel on the yard and road. Pima also gives plenty of quality handouts unlike other schools who either dont give any or are copies off a cheap copier. If you can go to Pima for your CDL do it.John Brown

The surgical team, and staff is top notch here. My surgeon was Doctor Hood and his wonderful staff. And the nurses here, go up & Beyond the Call of Duty. When I first came into Banner, I was a 10 on the pain scale. This is my first day after surgery, and I cannot believe the difference. My pain level, is a 3 or 2 when I move. When I sit still it's a 1 or nothing, and it's only my first day of recovery. Dr. Hood had to fix my tailbone and also straighten out my spinal cord. Then he put a cage around my spine to keep everything in place. It's amazing how good this guy is, and the people who worked with him. And the nurses, are amazing. They are always on the ball. They always come quickly if there is any kind of issue. And the nurses are always on time to take care of the patients. Sometimes you don't even have to ask. For example, they brought my water Because I have a dry mouth. And it was like they knew when to bring it. I know it's a little thing, but they also take care of the big things as well. I have never seen nurses this proficient. They are truly top notch. I would recommend, anyone who has a serious problem with their health, to go to Banner. And if you ever need surgery, go to Banner. UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY I gave this Place A Five Star⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We came here for my Brother-In-Law 05/15/17 who had Surgery done by Tze-Woei Tan, MD who did A Remarkable Job✅. Surgery was suppose to Start @ 10am but did not go quite on time because other Greater Emergencies had arise and took Priorities but fully well understood we waited our turn. Finally it did happen and it took like over three hours and Surgery went well. He stayed over night and was discharged next morning. Staff here was Excellent Thank You 😊 Dr Tan And Your Staff for doing such an Excellent Job For Your Patients and Excellent Care over All . Spoke to Claire in pre op check-in by phone and was treated with incredible kindness, she went out of her way to answer questions and to provide information. From the moment I arrived for my procedure, every person I encountered was thorough, professional, and actively involved in my comfort. Nurses were attentive and cool, anaesthesiology was competent, and considerate, and my surgeon was terrific, very understanding and compassionate (Dr. J. Wiseman) even after I'd gone home and had concerns about pain management. I've seen the surgeons before, 2 years ago, through the E R, and had a much different experience, but my recent visit restored my faith. I'm very grateful, and impressed.Char Luck

My son attends the JTED program for Medical Assistant. The staff is very professional and friendly. We are excited about the training he is receiving while also being able to attend high school. This is a great head start and foot in the door for our children. This is the second child we have had attend this program and we are very greatful for their service.Allen Mims

The front desk lady was very nice although the lady in student services whose name is Susana was very rude. She lacked customer service skills she had no warmth she didn't greet with a smile and spoke in a harsh tone of voice. I didn't do or say anything to warrant such a rude attitude. I have no clue why she was in such an unhappy mood. This made me feel very unwelcomed. At the end of the meeting I asked to have a copy of the information that I had turned in. She said no and I asked again and explained that I wanted a copy or timestamp to have proof that I turned it in since I have heard that paperwork can get lost. She refused to give it to me so I just had no other choice than to accept that and left. My interaction with Susana in student services was not at all a pleasant one. I really feel that somebody needs to give her a lesson about customer service skills.violet Madrid

Good Meeting Site! Pros: I've been to this location several times for meetings, conferences, and events. The receptionist is very friendly. The conference room is conveniently located on the 1st floor. The video screen is nice and large, and there is plenty of room for seating. The restrooms are nearby as well. This campus is clean and well maintained. Plus, it is located near downtown. There is plenty of parking as too. Cons: There are no cafes or eateries within the facility. Yes, there are restaurants nearby, but they're not conveniently located within walking distance. Be sure to bring your own snacks and/or lunch. Hence the reason for three stars.SmartSysta Knows

Apparently Pima implemented a new policy where you have to make payments or pay for you classes within DAYS of registering for the next semester. A lot of students depend on financial aid, and awards don't issue until a few weeks before or during the semester. How can they expect students who are dependent on financial aid to pay when that's why they're applying for financial aid in the first place? Pima has definitely lost tough with their student's needs since I last went there. Ridiculous!Alanna Felix
