20 Best Sonography Programs In Rochester, NY (2022 Updated)

My son recently graduated from this college. He transferred in from a 2 year college so he was only there for 5 semesters. Things started okay but went downhill. Communication quickly became a problem. We had issues from professors, finance and counseling. It became so bad that to get anything done we had to cc the Dean in any messages that we sent. I also know of someone else who had to do the same thing. The last semester was the worst. He was enrolled as a full time student but when the bill came through it was in correct. We got loans for the first amount but had to get additional loans after the semester ended. No one sent an email we had to check the account because my son never received an email or his diploma. When we were notified by the finance department they told us we had to fix it. Numerous emails were sent to many different people but nothing was ever fixed. We finally resent the emails and cc’d the Dean and it finally got fixed. The college also changed the advisor without notifying us that it had changed. My son had to find his own internship and figure his classes out on his own. My daughter had the same issues with communication. She was signed up to go but never heard back. She then got a call from the advisor asking why she never showed up. The advisor had enrolled her in classes but never told her. She ended up not going. If you choose this college they will take your money but you will have to do a lot of work to make sure they are on top of things.Todd Crossett

I graduated from Roberts last year and I had a great experience. I do agree with some reviews that communication is not always great, but as long as you are proactive and take an active approach to your education here, you'll do wonderfully. The staff and students are very respectful and the professors seem to really care about you and your overall success. It is a nice size campus, not too busy and not too small. I went to undergrad here and loved it. There were always opportunities to learn outside of class, meet people through activities, and my professors knew who I was. A wonderful place to go to school and a great place to visit. The students here are almost all very kind, sweet, accepting, supportive, and open-minded people. They are slightly diverse in terms of demographics, and quite diverse in terms of personality. The college offers a diverse range of majors and excellent classes. It has particularly great music, performing arts, nursing, and physical therapy programs. Class sizes are not very big, with very few lecture hall-style class settings. The teachers are mostly very kind and care greatly about what they do. Tuition is very high, but depending on your program, it can be worth it. The campus is beautiful! It is full of nature and a mix of collegiate gothic and more modern buildings. It is small and dense, but not crowded. It is also very safe. Risk of theft or damage to property is very rare, but the latter is more common among lowerclassmen. There is so much history to uncover. It is located close to good places to shop, eat, and visit in Pittsford. The academic buildings are clean, well-lit, and mostly fitted with modern amenities. Bathrooms in some buildings are very clean, some are quite unclean. The lowerclassmen residence halls can be somewhat loud, are typically slightly unclean, but have many events to attend run by the RAs. There are dorm or suite-style living choices. Upperclassmen residence halls are mostly clean, almost always very quiet, and have dorm, suite, apartment-style living choices. Living arrangements are for full-time students only. The food in the Dining Commons is pretty good. It has a pretty diverse menu with some options tasting decent, some great. Other food locations around campus have a somewhat limited menu range and the food is mediocre. Some alternative dietary accommodations are met, and more will be made if requested. Facilities staff are mostly not friendly, but not unkind. The staff in the Dining Commons are mostly pretty friendly and very kind.Graeme Lechner

I received counseling services from John Aceto at Nazareth College. This man is sexually inappropriate! I met him to work on my shyness, and for the entire session he tried diagnosing me other issues. He told me I drink coffee everyday because I have "Caffeine-use disorder." That rediculous disorder is not even in the DSM! Then he diagnosed my father with Bipolar disorder, based on my childhood memories. He never even met my father in person. After the session, he began rubbing his hand on my back, telling me that he wanted to "help me out." I felt violated. BEWARE of this man! He will rope you in for other issues and try to take advantage of you. I expressed my concerns to the director, Megan Clifford Papponetti, and she black mailed me. She threatened to have me suspended, and that is exactly what she attempted. She shared my confidential assessments and sessions with my Ex and even to my professors. My professors were concerned about me, saying that they received a strange call from Megan "bragging about the information she found out about me." That was PERSONAL information that I trusted with the Nazareth College Counseling Center, and I was humiliated. Nazareth College, you should be ashamed of yourself! I considered D'Youville College for my Post 9/11 GI Bill graduate program. I ultimately picked another school which offered the degree I was interested in. By happenstance I spent my last semester of my studies at D'Youville. Wow, what a difference. While other schools pay lip service to Veterans, D'Youville is putting their money where their mouth is. At other schools, despite what they say, Vets are simply another number, a commodity they are anxious to attract for the easy money, but once enrolled, these Vets are quickly forgotten. A single staff member will be assigned Vets as a collateral duty, one of many hats they wear. D'Youville on the other hand has a staff of dedicated personnel whose sole job is to take care of Vets. Instead of being referred elsewhere, D'Youville gets resolution to any and all issues that their Vets encounter. They know how to successfully navigate the Veteran's Administration, as well as New York State benefits (e.g. Veterans Tuition Awards). Not only do they educate **ALLL** Vets (not simply limited the Gold Ribbon qualified Vets), but they also offer generous incentives for Vets' spouses and dependents. I been working in a community health program with the School of Nursing and Pharmarcy. My interaction wtih both students and professors has been excellent, and have surpass my expectations in wiliness to serve the community. About the D'Youville social life, this is a small college and their social life is during lunch time in Spot Coffee, which is located in the basement. In short, the DYC is good for those who want to focus in their studies and have theirs social life somewhere else because you will not find crazy frat parties in here.alice campbell

College offers a great PA program, but beware that contacting the admission office and tracking different components of your application is painstakingly uncoordinated. How does a college have a faculty that can't answer any questions pertaining to activities that go on campus. there are 4 kids to a room and marijuana smoke fills the air. You complain to faculty that you were not around anytime that this is found by staff with proof of your where abouts each and everytime. I don't smoke at all. I have a scholarship to go to this school and they kicked me out due to no one coming clean about the marijuana. I don't think I was treated fairly. I don't go here nor do I know anyone who does. We visited for a wrestling tournament. The gym they used was utterly disgusting. Dirty as hell. Garbage was shoved everywhere. There was a baby bottle!!! This is right when they opened. You are going to tell me there is no custodians or even volunteers to clean it up knowing there are visitors coming?? This college misguides students frequently. Be careful what your advisor tells you and they tend to swap your own major without your permission. I’ve lost thousands of dollars due to the unmanaged people that work here. This place has a low tuition cost for a reason. If I could give this institution zero stars I would be. Don’t waste your time with GCC, they will waste your time and money without any doubt in my mind. Don’t fall for the “it’s a beautiful campus” thing, because for example the nursing program is going downhill according to some alumni I’ve spoken to, who are now clinical instructors. I would never even refer to this place as a school let alone a college. Being a transfer student, I have experience with other more legitimate schools and universities. I will be completely honest. I did some PSEO courses here and thought it was a nice campus. There is some struggles and problems with the school, but nothing to make this not a choice for a college. Teachers are nice, most of the students are fine and just do there own thing, there is a couple of clubs and activities, and the class sizes see to be reasonable (smaller than JMHS). I think it is a good campus and should be considered an opinion and not thrown to the curb when looking for local colleges.Burner Account

What a joke… My wages are currently being levied for a semester I did not even get to attend! The Financial Aid/Counselor I worked with helped me sign up for all the classes needed for that semester but did not inform me that I had no available financial aid. By the time, I discovered this (3 weeks into class) it was too late to withdraw without paying full price. I called multiple people at the school but all refused to help or did not know how to help. Though some teachers care quite a bit the majority could care less about you and more about there personal life. Scared to walk around without being robbed. Worst school I have ever been too. Terrible when it comes to visitors and what information they tell you. My sister is currently in this place and apparently I can’t visit her. When my mom called them, they told us “only two set visitors can show up to visit the patient.” Nowhere on the pamphlet did it say that. The pamphlet says “immediate family members are welcome to visit during the day” and “other family and friends may visit Monday-Friday”. Also, they said it’s a rule due to covid. Everybody in our family is vaccinated including my sister (the patient) + we haven’t been near anybody with covid at all. Thanks to the hospital to telling us about this policy, my brother and father have wasted just about 3 and a half hours of their day going to visit, told they can’t, and driving back. Also, what happened to the no electronics thing? Everybody was told she was not allowed near electronics, but all of a sudden, she’s allowed to have a zoom meeting via iPad? Spent 6 hours at this hospital. They don't seem to do anything but COVID. I told them multiple times I didn't have COVID but they wouldn't be convinced so they sent me home with no diagnosis, convinced they were right. Got my negative test result from them this morning but that doesn't help my 101 fever. People need to trust that a hospital will actually do their job instead of just assuming they know. If I could put no stars I would. Okay so I was doing pretty well in the college at first all A's and B's everything was going great! Until I ended up having to help out with rent so I had to get a job, and being a mother also I am one of the few who would NOT want to put that much stress (job, kids, and school) on myself. So I call them and tell tell whoever (if only I remembered her name) my situation and how I won't be able to attend anymore, and she ends up asking me all these questions like why am I withdrawing and questions that shouldn't really be asked because she didn't even say it's policy or anything, she just wanted to know. So I tell her I'm starting my new job soon and she asked me the one question that just actually made me done with her, she asked, "Are you sure you're not able to do all 3?" as in all 3 she means taking care of my child, going to work, and going to school. Let that sink in. It actually made me even more frustrated because she was telling me that if I did now it would cost a lot to pay back, but listen if I have to withdraw I have to. There's no 'Are you sure you want to?' So they said they'd call and tell me the rest of the details so we can get through with the withdrawal process and I haven't gotten a call yet but what I did get was an attendance email from Outlook telling me that I won't be able for eligibility for my financial aid if I miss 14 days. Wow. So, I'm going to call them now because this is ridiculous and I do not have time. But if you do go to this school, please be careful. i know that other people will have a better experience or whatever. But this is not one of them.AiKitty Chan

I was excited to start my online career here. However the guy in admissions that was assigned to me was not for me. He was not personable at all I only spoke to him one time and that was for five minutes he never explained anything just said he will send me an email if assessments that was it never heard from him again I tried email him several times never received a email or a phone call until five day later stating to complete more assessments I had questions and he did not answer them . I tried calling to see if I could get someone new they said no I had to work with him. 1. They don’t offer free counseling to students. I can’t imagine a university not caring about their students mental health 2. The bus schedule to pick students up to bring them to the university is unclear and the coach for Soccer said she never sees it either 3. You don’t have a credit union. Many students don’t have credit and credit unions are a great/safe way to help students open up into that world. UW Green Bay has all of these things. When you’re looking for a job they don’t care if you go to a private college or not. Your experience trumps everything, so consider that before applying.Blue Lagoon

Do not waste your money. This school is a rip-off. My daughter took the EKG and Phlebotomy courses and throughout both courses only received one day of clinical in each area and they were not full days of practice since the school does not use manikins and the students had to practice the phlebotomy on each other and they could not stick each other but so many times…smh. Upon completion, my daughter received the run around trying to get an internship, and during the one internship interview that she went on the doctor told her that she really did not have anything for her as she was just asked to take another intern who was a relative of someone at the school, but she didn't what to tell my daughter no over the phone. She just had her waste her time and gas so she could experience an interview and tell her no in person…really? The school looked like a waste of time from the beginning and I should have gone with my instincts and gone to a reputable program.B. Manuel

I did my ultrasound course from here and my experience was great . Dr. Ayub and his lectures was awesome and he is always there for you in any guidance or questions even after completion of the course. The good thing is that they give hospital internships placement which actually enrich our skill and opportunities to learn varieties of cases and makes you confident. After the completion of the course they also help you for job opportunities which is really helpful as a beginner. Currently working in a radiology place and of course highly recommend this place.Dipa Denis

I took this course to have a better future for my son and I and she helped me accomplish that. She cares for her students and is such a wonderful person. Dr. Soliman was very dishonest with me, and that ended up costing far more than he told me it would. He pulled a tooth after a failed root canal, and proceeded to do a dental implant which took months to do, and also failed. The implant cost $6000, and he offered me no help financially when he then suggested I have him make a bridge to fill the gap after he removed the implant. He charged me $3000 for the bridge. A total of $9000 to fill one gap. I cried in the chair when we talked about the expense before he went ahead with the bridge, which I had no way to pay. He said he'd have me do photography for him around the office. I'm a professional photographer. He never had me do that. He told me not to worry when I cried. But he offered no help. I ended up having to apply for a home equity loan to pay for the work. I'm still paying for that 4 years later. He also pulled another tooth that also had a failed root canal and wanted to do a bridge there, too. I definitely couldn't afford another $3000, so I left the gap empty. When he finished the work, I left his practice. I found a wonderful dentist who heard about how Dr. Soliman had treated me, and did the new bridge for free. Meanwhile, the bridge that Dr. Soliman did has never been right. One of the teeth that the bridge is anchored to was filed too far down and the gum there is often sensitive.Julie Gelfand

Doctor did not listen to what treatment I wanted and all of a sudden I had to have major dental work. Wanted 2 teeth extracted and to figure out how to fix a chipped tooth. 3 root canal’s and 3 crowns absolutely ridiculous. It is my mouth and I had absolutely no input in my treatment plan. Will never go back and it was a money grab for them. A patient should have input in their treatment and what they can afford. Waste of my time and money now have to pay cash out of pocket to see a different dentist. Equipment to take x-rays looked to be absolutely dirty and not clean. Should of just stopped once I seen that but gave the benefit of them being a expert. Money grab was what I was. They are amazing people that do quality work! They have great personalities and care deeply for their patients. I had broken teeth and pretty much cried when I saw my smile after they have put me back together. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone trying to better their lives. They promise you a job at the end of your course and then claim that there are no jobs available. The teachers use their time to threaten you and accuse you of talking, not paying attention or just deviant behavior while you sit their silently and then all faculty staff say “well it’s a free program” they also threaten to remove you from class and tell you to “get out” if you have questions or you bring up things that you’ve learned before that challenge what they’re teaching and ask for clarification. There was a teacher who would actively blame me for the things the girl next to me did. If she was speaking in class, eating or even sleeping she would accuse me of being the one talking or the one that was influencing this grown girl to behave the way she did. While I sat there quietly and did my work. Don’t do it if you have anxiety or depression cause this place will push you to kill yourself having to survive here. I was here to vote early on Friday (10/30). I was happy that the wait time was minimal (about 5 minutes). There were many workers there helping to guide everyone to the correct places to "check-in," receive a receipt to get your ballot, then go fill out the ballot and cast your vote. There seemed to be almost too many poll workers though. Some were just kind of standing around and crowding the place. The flow of people entering and exiting crossed paths, which isn't the best practice during the pandemic. Everyone was masked though and there was hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies everywhere, so it wasn't all bad. I was satisfied with the experience.Alyssa Jewell

I graduated from here in the 1990s when it was still on Prince Street in downtown Rochester. The move to Westfall Road was ill advised, since it is not on a bus line. In the winter time it would be quite a hike to the campus from the nearest bus line on South Clinton Avenue. This makes this college inaccessible for many city residents.Chili Ray

Current Admissions counselor/coordinator and director is rude, not helpful, nor understanding. They ignore application and take months to get back with you. This shows that the school is money hungry. I would recommend looking at other nursing schools that really care about prospective and current students.Keal N

⚠️ NOT AN CAAHEP ACCREDITED SCHOOL,this is my story .. I applied for the sonogram program but was told I was not accepted due to my low high school gpa. They told me I should take a semester as a medical assistant and so I did. Coming from queens I would take the train and it would take me more than an hour to get to this school. I worked very hard and made it to the honors program even..My first semester in Monroe College I got an overall of an 3.7 Gpa, I was thinking finally with this gpa I can get into the ultrasound program . However when I went to apply for the ultrasound program again I was told I was STILL NOT ACCEPTED due to “lateness” and other “excuses”.. come to find out this is not an accredited school which wasted my time completely. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY here.. in order to take your board exams you HAVE TO be in an accredited school.. please don’t waste your time like I did. I am a current student. The admission process was great. Olga M. “walked” me step by step and she explained everything I needed to know. Will Never forget how nice and helpful she was. The advisor , the Professors are excellent. They give me options each semester for days and hours and the most important they are there for anything I need , anytime. I see people saying that the school is not accredited which is not true. Nursing program is accredited , students sit for the boards right after graduation. DMS program is accredited with ARRT, after ARRT registry, graduate students can sit for ARDMS… I don't see any problem with this, who wants success have to work hard. I have been here 3 semesters and I did learn a lot already. Nobody was unprofessional or rude, the opposite. I am enjoying my “student life” at Monroe and I will Graduate Next year.Klaudja Guri

I remember back in 2019 while in hopes of signing up for college, Nonetheless I was brutally discriminated by a Hispanic consoler who was helping me sign up for college and gather my information in order to proceed with the process. She told me “ saving people’s lives is more important than my religion “ . When she told me this she was referring to the vaccines and flu shots. I will never forget about this incident, there is such thing as religious exemption . “ my body my choice “ or is that only okay to say when getting an abortion? She was most definitely taking advantage of the fact that I was vulnerable after opening up a little of my life story to her, she has came at me so nasty and it’s discrimination against my beliefs and religion! My mother in law was there for 11 days. She broke her hip. The doctors and nurses were terrific!! They kept my husband and I updated every step of the way with her care. We never worried about any neglect. (That was the reason she ended up there from a rehab facility) The case manager arranged for everything we needed to bring her home. Plus physical therapy and a hospital bed and a nurse. I am grateful to Upstate University Hospital, Down town Syracuse.Dolores Sullivan

Daughter had surgery today. I feel that whoever is in charge of this hospital runs a tight ship. They always let people know the details in plenty of time before a procedure. There is a gentleman at entrance that is very friendly and helpful. I was very impressed with him and the staff at information desk. Had intensive rehab here a couple years ago, people were great program was great had to spend a week here. The only reason they don't get a five is because of their hospital food! SAVE YOUR MONEY!! They give a scholarship to every dunce that walks through the door, to make it seem like a great deal to loop more people in to going. I originally signed up for a bachelor's degree and realized I really wasn't a fan of this college. I wanted to switch to an associate's degree to get out sooner instead of completely withdrawing from the college and was told that wasn't an option?(don't see that happening at a suny school) So I could either suffer there for 4 full years or just quit. I chose the latter. Also was attending during covid and they were not prepared or flexible at all with online learning. They expected me to learn comparative anatomy online with a teacher who wasn't equipped to teach it ( lots of first year professors, makes me think working there is just as bad as being a student) Awful experience, they build the school up alot but it really is mediocre. You get less opportunities and flexibility for 30,000 a year. Also the parking situation is a joke, to pay that much money and have to park at the zoo lmao. Please please please save your money. The internship program here is a nightmare. People in the same degree as me are graduating with very different requirements, for instance, my professor in charge of internships needs 240 hours and two jobs, other students are graduating with 30, 60, 80, 300 etc. The requirements are not given to you in the handbook and it is very confusing. The buildings are deteriorating from old age and the school does not fix it. Windows do not open and close, it’s hot in up stairs classroom, classes are unbearably boring, the professors constantly argue with the board of the directors, and the school was charged with embezzlement a year or two ago. Please please please consider another option, taking a gap year to think about your future and education, trade school, or another small college. Also medaille’s small size works against it in my opinion, the classes are too small to find friends with similar interests, no one talks to each other, and there are not many clubs to join. They don’t even have a ski club, what school in buffalo doesn’t have that?? I could go on but it’s unnecessary, please save your money AND TIME. <3C Woe

Medaille College: quirky, small, landlocked, connected, brilliant. I do not think I could have made a better choice. Communications (Media) is one of the most volatile and unpredictable career fields in the world; it also happens to be my major. Had I chosen another school for this study I would more than likely be studying either a specific field like radio or promotions or I could be in a theory-based curriculum. By choosing Medaille I open up a world of possibilities to myself because we are not limited to one field or another. In one year I acted in countless videos, produced and directed many myself, formulated advertising and promotional campaigns, and wrote many a news article. I did a good amount of this in our Radio and TV Studios and with total access to a staff of professors who have experience in their field. Of the more than 50 top universities we toured around the country, Rochester was my favorite. Not only was it outstanding for its serene and spacious campus and its architectural richness, but for the people. The friendly staff who greeted us, the advice of their genuine and truly supportive admissions counselors, the welcoming and enthusiastic professors we met were all top notch. Ultimately my child chose a different university, but I would have been happy to spend more time visiting this campus and the surprisingly lovely city surrounding it.Mags

The school is beautiful. But really hate ur medicine in it. $600 just a single test with insurance. Talk and talk, never solved my problems. Did a much better test for $100 in another place without insurance and eventually get healthy. It’s not mental problems!!!Stella G

I don’t personally go to RIT, or plan to, but I just need to say, to everyone in these reviews complaining about the cold or snow: did you bother to even look up upstate NY weather? We frequently get nor’easters, side affects from hurricanes that travel up the coast, as well as one winter we’ll get like a foot of snow and others we get snowed in so bad it’s level with your car. Like I feel like before you decide to move to a new place for college you should do some research outside of the academic opportunities…Ryleigh Balla

Not financial aide friendly. Tutoring for chemistry didn’t start until the fourth week of classes. The chemistry lab professor are rude grad students. The teachers are unorganized and unprofessional. I would not recommend this school to anyone. The ONLY good thing is the co-op.Laporcha Richardson

Absolutely beautiful campus! Over the weekend, we went for an Open House. The entire presentation was very nicely put together. Everyone we talked to had a genuine love for the school. Students were helpful wherever you walked. Can’t wait to go back!Pat B

I'm giving a,0 because of the unprofessional front end person. I needed directions to a certain floor and was told I wasn't allowed to go up unless I called them first. I had to call the contact person myself when they wouldn't be bothered to. Hope I don't ever come back cuz I didn't get in touch with the person anyway DRick Dobmeier

Nice brain museum inside. I contacted a month in advance to secure entrance. The museum is actually the one room, but has a lot of very nice specimens if you are interested in that kind of thing. Also has an Alzheimers specimen, some thin seconds, some models, and some artwork. The labels are very informative.Brad Caldwell
