I love JU. The food in the cafeteria was excellent when I returned for a visit recently. The new rec center is AMAZING. Prices in the book store seem crazy high… But I know that the cost of everything has gone up so much, I am sure their suppliers charge them a lot more. I think it would be nice to have more affordable gear though in the bookstore if the university could source more affordable suppliers.Kaycie

My husband graduated from Johnson Bible College in 1957, and I was a student there for 1year before we married. I was, however, long acquainted with JBC since our minister was Dean there, we had numerous students from the college who were active on my church, as was my husband. This place is a joke. My daughter has pneumonia pretty bad after having covid. She's been to her Dr everyday this week trying different antibiotics along with breathing treatments. She didn't improve, only got worse. Today her doctor said there was nothing else they could do that she needed to be admitted. They called the hospital to let them know. We get there. They said it wasn't a direct admittance we would have to go through triage and see what they say. We waited for two hours whole my daughter was sitting there coughing so bad and having issues breathing. When we got called back the nurse said that her lungs were clear and sounded good. After 2 doctors have to told me all week including today how bad they sound..and you could literally feel it through her chest. She then said she couldn't justify putting her in a room.. she said we would probably be waiting another two hours before we got called back. She said that if she had issues breathing again to tell the front desk and they would look at her and see if she needed to go back into a room. So even though her lungs have been full of fluid and sounding horrible all week it was able to just disappear in a couple of hours. If I could give this place zero stars I would.Cassie Parker

My son was transferred to ETCH from Bristol. We were in ICU for a week before he had surgery. After the surgery he recovered very quickly and we were able to step down to another room for a few weeks. The entire time we were there we always felt like everyone there loved their job. Every doctor was very thorough when explaining things (he saw probably 5 doctors total but at least one per day), the nutritionist helped him gain back part of the 10 pounds he had lost, physical therapy was very knowledgeable and even helped him practice things he could use to get back into sports, the nurses were always attentive. Dr Savage did his brain surgery and even did it in a way that she didn't have to shave all of his hair, you couldn't even tell it was there and it goes almost ear to ear on top of his head. When we returned for a follow up the infectious disease doctor removed his picc line so quickly and kept him engaged in conversation so that he didn't even notice it was being removed. The hospital was clean. The cafeteria food wasn't bad. Seriously cannot say enough good things about the hospital and staff. I am so glad we were sent to this hospital.Katie Jones

While I am not a patient here now, I once was during my youth. I don't think anybody has fond memories at a hospital unless it's a day when the patients get great news. However, I do have one tender memory. Years ago, I was scheduled to have a colonoscopy on my 12th birthday. The nurses and other staff were wonderful and surprised me that morning with a bag full of gift shop goodies since my birthday was spent at the hospital! I'm pretty sure they spent their own money on everything! I still have the small tote bag and everything inside of it, and it's been almost seven years! The nurses here make it better if you have a child going through a tough time. However, the medical doctors here can be a bit frigid and could probably use a course in hospitality. Although I understand they are dealing with sick kids all day, it must be hard to be warmhearted in that environment. Honestly, the only bad experience had with any of the staff was with a doctor, but I have forgiven him and hope he was just in bad spirits the day I saw him. Thank you to all the wonderful staff here for caring for me when I was a kid.Camden J.

I am in the Pharmacy Tech program and I am totally LOVING it! I have never been so happy to be doing my school work. Even though we are currently doing things online, due to COVID-19, Mrs. Hope is doing everything she can to help us understand the material we are learning! I've never had a more interactive teacher! 10/10 recommend this school! The staff is great. From the time I asked for more information on the school till my first day I had weekly check-ins with people from the campus! I have applied at a few colleges and none of them were as interested in communicating with me like Fortis!! 🙂 If your looking for a school that is super friendly and will help you with anything Fortis of Cookville is your school! I am graduating shortly from the HVAC program and I have enjoyed every night of it. The course is set up to help you succeed and the instructors make sure that you have the information needed and understand it well. Unlike some programs Fortis has a lab with 7 fully functional heating and cooling units. During the course of the program you get the opportunity to see first hand how they should work and also what happens when they don't work. I graduate in roughly a month and I can honestly say that this program has more than prepared me for a long successful career in this field.Logan Selby

Just weeks from graduating from HVAC program and must say it has been not only a magnificent educational program with the greatest instructors possible for the program but a phenomenal amount of knowledge gained for a wonderful career path. Instructors are above and beyond with their background in the field, their knowledge of both theory and hands on demonstrations as an excellent form of instruction, and their full dedication and passion for teaching proper skills and ethics of the trade. For the price of this school.. it was not worth it. Save your money and go to a community college ESPECIALLY if you’re coming here for dental assisting as you'll get the same if not better equipment. The 6 week unpaid externship is a huge issue in my opinion. It could be shortened to two weeks. During covid it was hard enough financially and they want you to leave your main job to go work for an office unpaid for 6 weeks full time. The career services person I had did not have any actual interest in helping, just ignoring any serious issues you have (making you stay at an extern site which is over an hour driving distance because she couldn't "find" any other place for you to go). They just want you to graduate to make themselves look like a good school, they do not care if you are having trouble with your extern site either even after being horribly disrespected by the employees on that extern site.(Dentist yelling at you, throwing stuff, extremely hostile environment). In all honesty if the career services actually showed that they cared, it would've made a big difference in how I viewed this school in the end. But they seem to have a high turnover rate with their staffing in general.M

Let me start off by saying that this rating is not a reflection of your instructors and the career services people. This is a refection of the school. The curriculum along with the homework load are not well planned out. You don't have the best of materials to work with. The tuition is absurd! Having that much money coming in, why is there not adequate materials and more up to date things to work with, such as more Dexter heads? I feel like certain things are just designed for you to not do as well as you could. Again, very expensive school for you to not have everything available to you. My education in this profession is super important, you're not gonna get far with out it. Thank goodness for those instructors though, their experience and their scenarios will help you to understand what that crazy dental book tries to explain to you. I feel like the knowledge I learned will help me get by, but you don't spend enough time on each unit to know and understand it fully. I don't want the instructors or some of the others that work there to get a low star rating, because they don't deserve it in anyway.Christen Padgett

The school is AMAZING! HIGHLY recommend going to this center to receive education in the medical field. As a former student, i have first hand experience with every person in the facility. Ms. Thomas, the assistant director and instructor is very kind and gives a ton of insight on what exactly you are to expect in the career. Mr. Moe, he is the career adviser and he helps really really well with getting you prepared for your career goals and will get you into your extern-ship. he also is very caring about your needs and goals. Every teacher, office personnel and Directors are very caring, respectful and a great role-model while looking into joining the medical field. Ross Medical Education Center is the school to go to when you want to learn the trade and want to get in and have some fun along the way.Brittany Haese

Pellisippi is a terrible choice when looking for post secondary education. The teachers could careless about the students. Don’t try to speak to speak up because the deans don’t care either. Here’s the kicker Pellisippi is so scared about students dropping out and wonder why no one attends classes but then has teachers that let all of their power go to their heads. When you try to go seek help from anyone at Pellisippi they either don’t know who to contact or push your concerns under the table and forget about you. Students who have concerns will never be heard nor have any of the issues fixed. All Pellisippi cares about is the government funding they get from students who attend there. I would love for someone to direct me to someone who genuinely cares about the students and will make sure their voice is heard.Dylan Rector

I received my Associates Degree from Pellissippi in 2007. I came back last year to take a few online courses b/c I am pursuing my Bachelors at another college. The courses are much less expensive and the instructors are great. However, the staff is very abrupt and rude. It doesn't matter if I am talking to a receptionist, advisor, business associate — even the online Help Desk. I am not sure what the issue is, but I have yet to encounter a friendly staff member. I would recommend this school b/c of the price and knowledgeable instructors. The school staff though, needs an attitude adjustment. They need to remember that we are the students and without us they don't have a job.Amy

I have had a great experience here so far. I am currently in my second semester. My professors have all been very knowledgable, friendly, and I commend those who are able to make a three hour long lecture stay interesting. Looking forward to completing my degree here. The admissions and financial aid staff are wonderful and very helpful in walking you through the process of registration and setting up payments. Bookstore staff are always helpful and nice. Library is great and (usually) a nice/quiet place to study.Noah Newport

You couldn't pay me to go back there. I made the mistake of enrolling in their dental hygiene program where I was repeatedly called stupid, careless, and cussed out in front of fellow students and patients (which made meeting course requirements nearly impossible since my patients wouldn't come back). I'm not sure if the staff was sexist (there's only been one man to ever graduate from the program) or if they abuse everyone (when I tried to get other students to help me file a complaint, they said that they were afraid they would get kicked out of the program), but I'm leaning towards the latter. I mean, I saw one poor girl get screamed at because she needed to go to the bathroom! The professor told her to either sit down or don't come back. This was the most unprofessional, disheartening joke of a "school" I've ever seen. I've attended two other universities and have since taught in a secondary education setting, and I have yet to see anyone act in such a deplorable manner as these people. Stay away!Paul Charpie

WoW. Great place to learn. Wish all Colleges be set up like this one. Easy and great layout for everyone. The Professors be top of the line without the big problems of big Colleges that suck up your money and make a person run around to get to class. This College is set up for a person who wants to learn and not to party, play around , and nor waste my life doing courses I don't need or want. Easy to get help or answers on questions ect. So easy and relax without the day to day run,run,run to building all over the mile long areas. Go to a 4 year College and see how far you have to go just to get to one class. I would tell everyone not to go to roane state, they are a bunch of dumb***, From the teacher to the advisor. It was horrible we sit in the waiting room for 8hrs. Of course I know emergency happen. We were there because they thought my sister was having a stroke. Finally got called back for treatment at about 2ish and they gave her a bag of IV fluids and a couple of meds and we were sent home at 4:30 am. The people were nice but if you are not dying when you get there you sure enough are when you leave and the people who waited with you also.Vanessa Dodson

UT Gardens are spectacular! Enjoy a private walk through their shaded tails, or a brisk jog along the riverside. There is something for everyone. There is even an interactive Children's Garden! With plenty of places to rest, either benchs or tables, it makes a wonderful place to sit and enjoy lunch. Take your family, take your friends, or just take yourself for a little alone time to unwind. It is well worth it!Kacy McBride

I went in by Ambulance and I was treated with kindness and caring nurses and Dr who actually sit and listen to me and my issue. I was in a tremendous amount of pain but with that being said it was extremely busy with a long waiting on results. The Dr gave me something for pain before he sent me out in the waiting room. If Lauren Rider in office 210, inside the library, is going to have personal phone conversations at work, she needs to at least shut her down. Decent school. Will waist your time on training that should be done by a high school freshman, entering their first job. Things like two star rated “SkillsUSA Career Essentials”. Despite the overwhelming majority of students finding it unhelpful and an academic distraction from the rest of their learning. It is a check in a box for the school though, thinking this will fix the number one issue with employees that employers face, punctuality and attendance. It won’t. But the school pushes hours of it anyway, despite overwhelmingly negative student feedback. Honestly the school cares very little on student feedback. Hence no student government body. Faculty has overall say. I’ve done three programs here. I mainly return due to how my GI Bill is charged. Basically I do it for the money. The welding program was great under Greg Brooks. Other instructors? May get a lesser or greater experience. Depends on the instructor. Had Will Drainy for the electrician program, and he was great. Moved on, and Nick Paterson took over, and program became a joke in comparison. I ended up co-oping early to get away from the mess of a program. Then automotive with Andy Smith was good. Good instructor but a big disconnect with what he teaches and the third party programs he uses, and the actual ASE certifying tests. He knows he trade, but doesn’t know his third party content he assigns us. Trusts the name of the provider(cdx), and blindly assigns it based on that. When problems are routinely brought up on the content/sources, we waves it off and says he doesn’t know. Much of the instructing will come from third party online sources, with his lectures being good but minimally helpful in regards to the assignments, all of which come from CDX, DealerCONNECT, SP2, SkillsUSA…again none of which has Andy Smith actually done. So he has little to nothing to do with the vast majority of tests, quizzes, and assignments, you will do. Almost nothing is “his material”, maybe that’s good, maybe not. I find it not good, when the content lacks and he can only acknowledge it, but can’t/won’t fix anything. Point being it’s an ok school, but depends on your individual instructor. The front office is often less than helpful and cares more of the image and politics involved in academia, than student feedback…but the “trades” are so in demand and the basic training you get can land enough people into that $14-18/hr range..so many students are content. Having done multiple courses for pleasure, I’ve had more opportunities to see the schools faults. Be prepared to be viewed as high school students, who are on the payroll of the school..as opposed to adult learners who are paying to attend the school. Weird priorities on their end. #1 is “worker characteristics” (stuff public school teaches you like follow directions and behaving around others) #2 the actual skills of your selected trade. 3 out of 5….but they push several 1 or 2 star products which you’ll be required to spend many hours on, with no return aside from “putting in the work”.Jim Johnson

If you want to get into the Automotive Tech program here’s what to expect: the class is headed by a Ford Master tech who is in possession of 98% of the tools and machines you’d ever need to complete a job. There are “customer” jobs to complete, actual cars with actual problems. There is a mountain of computer work as well as task-sheets that are completed by real-world action being taken in the Automotive Practice Lab. Attendance is strict. Tardies and Absences can ruin your shot at success in the program very VERY quickly. There’s a lot of self-study required. However, I’ve found that every question or concern I have about the material, about procedures, about the work – will all be addressed in a professional way by the Instructor, who has been doing this job for a very long time and has a very potent, information-filled teaching style. I suggest taking copious notes during lectures. A uniform is required and professionalism is required. In return for your good attendance, lack of tardies and commitment to the work you will receive some solid, SOLID benefits that’ll help you for real; first the certifications you’ll receive are numerous and valuable. Certifications are offered on everything from Safety to Precision Measuring Instruments and everything in-between. Next is Manufacturer Training; Chrysler *AND* GM training is now included in the curriculum. This is OEM Dealership level proprietary Manufacturer training on their specific products, methods and procedures. These alone can be instrumental in landing the job you want. Next there’s the ASE inclusion in the curriculum. If you can study hard, retain the knowledge and exhibit the ability to use it during real-world-scenario diagnosis you can secure ASE certifications. The importance of these in securing good pay cannot be overstated. Instructor Smith holds and maintains Master level ASEs. Finally is the applied skills you learn from doing the actual job. Automotive Practice Lab has a drive-on alignment lift / alignment machine, bench and mobile lathes, all manner of automotive machine-tools. But you really kinda have to earn your time on these machines by working hard at the first chunk of Automotive Tech as a program which is Safety & Foundations. If you have the motivation to study, retain and apply it all, then you get to work in the Practice Lab. Some folks seem frustrated you can’t just jump into the Lab on Day 1 and start working metal and cars. Full disclosure: it’s hard but it’s fun. It takes dedication and tons of self-study. In my view so far (10.5 months into the program) it’s worth the patience and determination and sweat. Why? Because in the end Instructor Smith is an expert at more than the machines or repairing the cars; he’s an expert regarding the Automotive Industry and knows seemingly everyone in the industry in town. His advice is worth trusting career-wise and if that’s what you’re after, a career at a dealership doing OEM warranty repair and diagnosis, maybe consider this program? Hope this helps.hollow men

If I could rate lower than 1 star I would! I began in the Surgical Technology program in September 2018. The syllabus guarantees 6 month lecture time and 6 month clinical time. The program director we had at the time dragged her feet and was consistently late for class time so instead of my group receiving the 6 month allotted time we got 52 days. In this 52 days we were required to complete a rotation and participate in 120 cases, this is nearly impossible. 20 days before graduation, I was dismissed from the program for having anxiety disorder for which I am medicated. Apparently there is no such thing as an extenuating circumstance. This dismissal was a ploy by the current program director (the program director changed earlier this summer) to assert her dominance since no one took her seriously. I filed a grievance, but by the time I was able to meet with someone there wasn’t a way for me to catch up and finish the program anyway, so I declined to fight for my position. Needless to say this was the most undesirable experience I have ever been through in my 30 years of life. I was constantly humiliated in front of class mates, called out, and at one point was told to use tea tree oil on my scalp because that’s what they used for their dog. I was exposed to a persons bodily fluids when an instructor placed a soiled safety shield on my face in the middle of a surgical procedure (the shield being soiled is why I didn’t have them on to begin with).After being dismissed from the program, I was told by the program director that I might try cosmetology as that might be a better fit because not everyone is meant for the medical field. I gave up almost a year of my life for this nightmare of an experience that included being mistreated and discriminated against for being overweight during my clinical time! If I could go back in time, I would save myself the hurt and tears that have been shed and just pursued my BA like I plan to do now. Prospective students beware!Charlye Snider

Came here to do my HiSet testing and got the first sub test done. The security and proctors were very helpful in helping me navigate the building and in succeeding in my prompt testing. Diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic adenocarcinoma and possibly 9 months to live, I spent many weeks of chemo and daily radiation treatments at the UT Cancer Institute. I was treated like royalty by my Drs., the many nurses who cared for me, my dietician, the technicians, and also the secretaries. I was well informed every step of the way, handled ever so gently, and was given much love and compassion by every single person I interacted with. I also greatly appreciate that all of my questions were answered with much detail, and that when I cried or was afraid, the nurses actually held and petted me till I regained my composure. King University is a great place to earn your degree! The faculty and staff are very passionate about what they do and are more than willing to help you. I started the 16 month Communication program in May 2014 and I can honestly say I feel like I have obtained skills that will help me excel in my future career. The classes are straight forward and fast paced so you don't have time to get bored. Each class meets one day a week for 5 weeks so if you are someone who gets tired of a subject easily then this is perfect for you. Class sizes are small so you don't have to worry about lack of guidance, you will actually have the opportunity to get to know your professors. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience at King University and I look forward to graduating this August with a bachelor's degree in Communication.Alison Daniel
