The administration does not care about you. They do not care if you are a student or an employee, they do not care about you. They do not care about your kids, they do not care about the job you have to work on the weekend to make ends meet. The top administration will continue to rake in money for themselves and make sure they’re providing both employees and students with as little as they possibly can. The entire art department is a joke. Calhoun has crippled its own photography program by getting rid of the best studio photography teacher it has probably ever had just because he didn't have a degree yet he's been a professional working photographer for about 30 years. Calhoun has a bad history of hiring people to teach that don't do their job. The dean and the underlings don't care if you have a problem if it affects their staff. Calhoun is famous for minimizing the parking spaces despite the rising number of students attending each year. The financial aid department is worthless too. I'm transferring to Wallace State instead of going back to Calhoun to earn my degree.BringPopcorn

What I love about Calhoun is that they want to make sure you know how to do. Hands down Calhoun is one of the be places to study IT in the state. The classes are small enough that you are able to get hands on training and your taught by instructors who work in the field. Not someone who is good at taking test and decided to teach. The only complaint I have is that Calhoun should try to improve the student experience more. It's hard to accomplish considering most students are only there 1-2 years but there should be more university sponsored events live movie nights, dances, etc.Christoper J

I've been going back and forth with the Cashier's Office today because they are in charge of distributing pell grant refund checks at the *beginning of the semester. It's now March and I have recieved anything because.no one told me until last week that if you have a second term split class that you won't see the check until AFTER that class starts. Even then no one ever answered.my questions until today when I had.to go see the Dean of Students. She wasn't in so they brought in the Financial aid person (should have been done since January). Long story short, that person told me to drop my class since it would be easier for them. I've had nothing but bad experiences at Shelton and it's no wonder that not many people after the CC dont continue their education. Literally the worst school ever. The advisors do absolutely nothing to help you. When you call they just tell you what you want to hear and don't help at all. I called last week to make sure everything was in order for me to sign up for classes and I was told yes. This morning I go to sign up and there is a hold on my account keeping from signing up. The department dealing with transcripts is very unprofessional and rude. I have been trying for four months to get three copies of my transcript. They sent one although I put 3 where it asked how many. I mailed in another request for two more. I never received them. I emailed the admissions department to see what happened. They responded back asking where to send it and I responded. However, I never received them. I then called and was told to do another request. I did another request in September. I just spoke with them only to tell me that they sent only one again on October 3rd. Her reason was because I only had one place listed to send and she didn't see why they would need two copies. So I then had to explain that it was going to the same place. Once received, the department would see to it that all three committee members got a copy. I shouldn't have had to explain that since on the request I asked for two. Furthermore more it's not for her to know why! What's the purpose of putting the number needed on the form if they only send the number they feel should be sent. No where on the transcript request does it ask why you need them. It just ask how many. I now have to send off another request for the third one. By the time I request another one and wait for it in the mail, it will be past the deadline at my job. I will have to wait until next year. This has been four months of nonsense.Khai Shade

I have tried to reach someone by phone in Human Resources for several days. No messages returned. The automatic greeting message tell you to press the # key to speak with an operator. You never speak to an operator which I am sure is by design. It just keeps reporting the options which no one answers! You call any other professional business you are at least able to speak with an operator. This gives a harbinger of the type of administration you will have to deal with if they answer the phone or you show up in person. Had awful experiences in past attempting to get transcripts. I love the friendly atmosphere in this college! Staff are nice and kind, everyone is eager to help. Tarted at the door during the orientation every staff member was smiling and welcoming, I felt the passion of the speakers, they didn't want the new students to go wondering about what they should do. I attending this college to complete some prerequisites for the graduate school, so I am not the regular type of students. Where do I even begin? This was an OK school to attend and I DO mean OK. The dean was WONDERFUL and became a good friend while I was there. My advisor was amazing and I had some absolutely tops professors. The campus is small and self contained but gorgeous nonetheless. Campus police are all really good guys and there are just really good people here from the friendly caf ladies to admin. THAT SAID, there are a LOT of negatives and I do mean a LOT. The whole campus manages to be uphill in some form or fashion which is really difficult if you end up injured or disabled. There are a lot of professors with really strict attendance policies so you better have your mental and physical health in order or you're going to have a hard time. A lot of people here act like they're Ivy League so the workload is absolutely insane. God rest your soul if you're a music major. The most difficult part of my experience here was the extremely limited accessibility as a disabled individual, most notably the soulless provost. When I had to take part of a semester off due to a medical emergency, my credits weren't applied properly forcing me to take an extra semester to make up for it. We as students were never notified when elevators were out or being maintenanced and I ended up missing classes because I couldn't use the stairs. The professors with the strictest attendance policies only cared that I wasn't in class, not why. While I was there, the college couldn't keep a president longer than two years at a time so it wasn't like we the student body saw any point in getting to know the president. When Krulak was in charge, he knew us all by name and our personal issues. He made sure I never had any accessibility issues. But as soon as he was gone, it was like a totally different school. The semester I was in a wheelchair was a soul crushing hell in and of itself. This also isn't a place you want to go if you're queer. I fought one professor for a whole semester to call me by my name instead of what was on the roster. This led to a LOT of students using the wrong name which led to unspeakable dysphoria. It was a war just to get people to use that name so I just stopped trying when it came to pronouns. The best departments for fellow trans students are anything arts related like English, Studio Art, and theater. I changed my major because the science department was so transphobic. While the theater department is the best for this, it has its own issues. Then, there's the neighborhood. There's a drinking game we like to play called "gunshots or fireworks" if that gives you any idea. It's really close to Eastlake where even cops won't go. My husband was working on a roof in the area and found sniper bullets. The ER five minutes away sees a lot of stabbings and gun wounds but you should be fine if you're white. Just everyone will tell you not to turn right off campus. It's silly because the people there know who's a college kid and they aren't going to mess with any because they don't want that kind of trouble. You're safe on campus but don't park by the sorority houses unless you're cool with your car being broken into. It's a recurring problem. This is probably not a place I'm going to send my kids for a lot of reasons. I did enjoy the classes themselves and frat row knows how to party. The professors were stellar and the campus was gorgeous but none of that totally cancels out all the negative. So as long as you're straight, cisgender, white, mentally healthy, and able bodied you'll be fine!smjaygal

Of course I love it…I am the President of the College. I have read some of the critical comments and question how long ago they were written. BSC is a remarkable college…extremely strong academically, very student oriented, guarantees an internship for each student and, beginning in the junior year, a mentor if desired. We not only focus on developing young men and women mentally, we also focus on leadership and character development. The campus is beautiful, the faculty and staff dedicated to providing the best education and environment possible for the students, and the sense of "family" is ever present. Extracurricular activities are remarkable…great sports, arts, theater, etc. The college sits on a hilltop outside of Birmingham so you get a wonderful campus that is close to a vibrant city. I have just completed my sophomore year as President and am very happy with the direction of the college and the remarkable students who attend…they are the very best thing about BSC. If you are looking for a superb education, the ability to get the job you want upon graduation (or the grad school you want), and a place to make lifelong friends, look no further.Charles Krulak

Our son is in his sophomore year at BSC, and loving every minute. He has been fully engaged by his professors, and has made some meaningful friendships. He started taking Chinese and is thriving. He's in a fraternity and is now on the InterFraternity Council. There are some wonderful campus ministries where he is being fed spiritually. There have been concerns voiced about campus safety: he has never felt unsafe, and trusts the campus security office and the fact that the campus is secured all the way around its perimeter. It truly is an oasis of learning and relationships for our son, and we are very grateful! It should also be noted that the college recently announced the drastic reduction of tuition for students! This is great news and will hopefully have a ripple effect across many colleges.Matthew Sullivan

It's a cheap college and a good start to a college career. The financial aid office and basically anything coming from the Bailey Center is a nightmare to deal with. 95% of the time, they had no idea what I was talking about. And I just about had a come apart on multiple occasions with them. Make sure to hound them when you ask for your transcripts, it took them months for them to give me my transcripts. The bookstore is pretty outrageous in its pricing. Also, coming from someone who went to a challenging school system, the work was usually not hard. In fact, I am terrible with math, but I breezed through 75% of my first math class within two weeks at Wallace. Most of the facilities are updated except the men's dorms, theatre, and the computer science center, which are not well taken care of. Missing floor and ceiling tiles, parking lots in need of repaving. Almost all of the professors are great and actually care about your progress.Voltaire Vinci

Great school, received my Associates and transferred afterwards to UAH. Really sweet people. If you live far away be prepared to only communicate in-person for Financial Aid and Admissions. It's very difficult to reach people by phone or email but once you walk in (unless it's right before the semester starts) there is usually no line and a short wait to talk to the right people. Also, this school is known for its nursing program and they take great pride in that. Be aware that the course load for this major is at university-level (minimum). Seriously, it is very aggressive but the job placement and license pass-rates are stellar. I enjoyed the faculty at this campus, especially in math. I took business classes too, and most of those instructors were super friendly and easy to follow. It was great! My son and I went there today to get him settled in, prior to classes starting on the 19th. The campus is small. The grounds and buildings are in good upkeep. His dorm room was nice and fairly clean and he seems to have been blessed with a friendly roommate. In fact, all of the people we met thus far on campus were very personable. Other than the three and a half hours drive there and back the overall experience was great! I pray that my son is surrounded by only the best people who wish him no harm and will only help him along this path he chose to pursue his goals. So so many reasons I would suggest against going here. Private school only out for money. You use the same books for most classes yet you are charged for books every term. Instructors are about half and half. Some are ghetto and unprofessional, others are trying to teach you what you will be doing on the job, and others only want you to do things the way they do them as if it's the only right way. Extern sites are horrible. Once you graduate good luck getting a job unless you were lucky enough to get one on your own. My extern site wasn't hiring so after finishing my hours about a month later the school helped set me up with a job making a whole dollar an hour more than I was making while in school for a job an hour away from me. Job also had nothing to do with my field. Had to move out of state and get a job in a factory. Still not having ANY luck getting a job in my field as most employers require experience. Frustrated doesn't even begin to explain how I feel owing student loans for pieces of paper I can't use.Sherra Randall

I’d give zero stars if I could. This school’s electrical program is a joke. Teachers don’t even show up for class, in the 9 months I attended not ONCE did I receive a lesson. Not ONE. The lab was empty, no supplies to even work on anything. Spoke with the head of the trades, and his response on many occasions was “I agree entirely, this isn’t acceptable” yet not ONCE fixed anything. Then one of my teachers who never showed up for class decided to text me and ask if I was done with school…so he could hit on me. Disgusting. I wasted so many months doing homework and trying to learn the material myself, and so much of my hard earned money just to feel like I’ve been had in the end. I enjoyed my experience at Fortis, I was in the dental assistant program. I had been to another school and did a fast track program, which was not worth the money. With Fortis, not only did I get experience from the classroom, but was able to work in a dentist office for hands on experience with real patient's. As long as you do your work and be an adult you can be successful with your diploma or degree. I have been with the same place since I graduated in 2018 and I am the lead surgical assistant in a periodontal dental office. Also shout out to Mrs. Sturrock, she will bend over backwards for you to help you succeed. Respect is something that she will give you as long as it is given in return.Becky Johnson

I can only speak to the HVAC program here, avoid it. This place is a diploma mill. Everything they promise you in the sales pitch is a lie. This is one of the most expensive HVAC programs in the country, and you won't even get an A.A.S. degree out of it. They don't have the proper equipment to train you. They don't have the proper faculty to teach you. They don't have the proper staff to manage the program. Most of your class time will consist of "study hall" time where you ask "why am I even here? I can read my text book at home." You won't follow the curriculum, most classes will be "well what do you guys wanna work on?" They'll give you the answers to the tests right before the tests. You won't be graded on practical application. You won't even be evaluated on whether or not you can apply the trade practically. Hey, this place is great if you just want a certificate that says you did it. It stinks to high heaven if you actually want to learn something.Nate Trav

Try rating it on number of students finding a job 40,000 dollars later in a state other than Alabama ! you should really do your research on the school you want to go to. Just saying ! My wife just gave birth and I feel like we got all the support we needed. Doctors were available and did a great job. No complaints whatsoever about the technicians, facilities, or doctors. 10/10 One very minor thing that I think they could improve: Their billing system is so outdated and annoying. They send you a letter, you have to enter your credit card/debit card number, address a return envelop with a stamp, and then send it back to them for processing. I know this is minor but it's like a 10 minute exercise each time (buying stamps, looking for FSA/HSA card, etc.) and you have to do it like 15 times so it ends up being a huge time sink. Please I would love to just leave a card on file and you just debit it. Send me a confirmation of payment afterward through the mail or through email. That would probably be better for you as well as there would be less delinquent bills.Hobart King

Dr. Damrich was great! His nurse, yikes. Not very hospitable, scolded her face the entire appointment like it was an inconvenience, interrupted me several times and just left a bad taste in my mouth. Not a fan of hers at all. Left the practice after I had a spontaneous abortion in May. I saw CRNP Lauren, can’t remember her last name, she was AWFUL. Absolutely no bedside manners, no explanation on what to expect next and 2 days later I was admitted to Grandview due to complications with the miscarriage. Decided to wipe my hands with St. Vincent’s after that. If Dr. Damrich made his own private practice I would use him as my gynecologist, sadly a phenomenal doctor with poor staffing doesn’t work.Luci Lancaster

The visiting experience it self was not bad. It’s easy to park and I got seen pretty quick. However i have some Complaints about the post-visit experience. I did some exam including an ultrasound during my visit and 2 weeks after I visited, I still haven’t heard from them about the results. I called twice and each time transferred to a voice mail for a nurse who never called me back. After about a month, I called them again and before got transferred away I asked politely if they can just tell me the results cuz no one ever called me back. The person on the phone was nice and eventually got me my results but I just cannot believe there wasn’t any follow up from their endPoppy Z

Someone recommended to me that I volunteer at The Pensacola School of Ultrasound as a way to get in a few extra ultrasounds as most insurance plans cover very few through out the pregnancy and I am a SUPER worrier. Let me first say that I could tell that the students really appreciated my time and were very friendly. However, the lady running the place I could not say that much for. She seemed too busy to show any type of appreciation for volunteers.At my first appointment the students hadn't been instructed as to how to lock the bed down and when I went to lay down, the bed moved and I almost fell. At the last appointment I had, the student was doing just fine getting the images she needed when all of a sudden the lady comes in the room and presses way harder than necessary on my stomach. I now have a bruise. It was so painful that I felt a strong urge to urinate. I have never had anyone doing an ultrasound press that hard on me nor have I ever felt the need to urinate during one before. The first time we went we asked for printed images and decided to purchase their thumb drive for 15$ we received no prints. Now, I know full and well that the 2 young ladies took over 20 images. However there were only 9 copied onto the drive- which was done by the lady in charge. The room was barged into several times with the door remaining open sometimes around a minute with zero knocking and what felt like zero privacy all the while my pants pulled down and shirt pulled up. I do understand that the students are just that, students. What I don't understand is why the person that is supposed to be training them for this field has such a lack of personality skills or bedside manner. When my appointment was done (which the lady in charge barged into the room telling the student that there was another appointment she needed to be done with me), the lady handed me my jump drive and didn't bother to ask me back. When I first contacted this place I tried for several weeks until whomever runs their facebook page argued with me about not being able to get in touch with them even after I had left about 5 messages that had not been returned. On their website it states that if you volunteer for 2 2d ultrasounds, you receive a free 3d for providing your time. When we asked about scheduling a 3d today the lady in charge said that they aren't doing them and when they do start back they will be picked at random. That kind of makes me feel like I was not only slighted but wasted time and money. I wouldn't advise volunteering at this place unless rude people are your thing.K G

Student Review: As a previous student at FIU I couldn't recommend this school to applicants considering attending more. Each teacher is caring and involved with their students success. Of course it is up to you to put in the work to do well as learning about the modalities and their pertaining pathology is not easy but the instructors won't let you unnecessarily struggle. Students get as much "scan time" as they do lecture time. Part of your learning also includes clinicals which they set up for you. I now realize being in the field and working that these clinicals were a very valuable experience and they help me differentiate which modalities I preferred to others. FIU offers education in ALL four modalities of ultrasound within one year which sets them apart from other two year institutions in the area and around the country. (Students from many different states come to FIU because it is unique to other schools and offers quality education. I was in a class of 16+ I believe only three or four of us were from Florida.) The instructors are all thorough in their teaching and during a students attendance and even after they graduate welcome any questions they may have. I graduated from the summer 2017-18 class and am now ARDMS registered within a year working full time. This school was the career-saving opportunity I needed and a student that is willing to make the most of the resources FIU offers by putting in the study time, asking questions, and being willing to move from the Pensacola area to where the great imaging jobs are will have the same great experience I did.Miranda Smith

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time while being a volunteer at the Florida Institute of Ultrasound. It was an easy process from setting the appointment to locating the Institute. We loved the fact that the students spent ample time with us looking at our little baby boy and teaching us what were were looking at on the screen. They are generous with the printed 2d pictures. The students were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. You can tell they were excited and happy to be there with us during this special time. While having a professional ultrasound from our Dr. is great, it's unfortunately very fast and we don't get as much time as we'd like. Thank you again, FL Institute of Ultrasound. THEY HAD TOTAL CONTEMPT FOR AND HAD ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT FOR ME AS A STUDENT! I PASSED ALL BUT ONE REVIEW COURSE WHERE THE TEACHER WAS ALLOWING THE STUDENTS TO CHEAT WITH EACH OTHER. BECAUSE HE WAS LETTING THE OTHER STUDENTS CHEAT ON THE LAB REVIEW EXAMS, THEY ALL MADE GOOD GRADES SO HE (TEACHER) DIDN'T HAVE TO SCALE THE GRADES. THEY TOOK MY MONEY AND FLUNKED ME OUT OF THE MLT PROGRAM AND LAUGHED ABOUT IT! FOR THEM IT IS ALL ABOUT GETTING YOUR MONEY! THEY ALL STICK TOGETHER AGAINST THE STUDENTS! IT IS A GOOD OLD BOY CLUB! IF THE MLT DIRECTOR DECIDES SHE DOES NOT LIKE YOU, SHE WILL LET YOU GET ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE PROGRAM, LET YOU SPEND ALL OF YOUR MONEY AND THEN FAIL YOU AND BLOCK YOU FROM PASSING AND LAUGH ABOUT IT! There needs to be alternating options besides accepting ACT score of 18 for the nursing admission program. Many technical and community colleges are accepting TEAS, Accuplacer, PERT, and HESI A2 as another option for their nursing admission program. Many students are graduating with post- secondary degrees in another healthcare field due to a very competitive job market. I graduated with postsecondary degrees in a healthcare field, but I have to complete additional training for employment in Medical Assistant or Pharmacy Technician related to my postsecondary degrees because I have no employment history.Tropical Ascendant Aries 12th House

I attended a CDL refresher course here. It was a great experience for me. The tarchers are excellent and extremely knowledgeable in their field. They use well maintained clean and safe equipment and are willing to do whatever it takes to get you where you need to be. The prices were beyond reasonable 1/5 of the price of their closest competitor and much better instruction. Could not have chose a better school to attend.chris cline

Love the new campus. Oneonta keeps growing and growing. It's such a relief that we don't have to drive all the way to hanceville (for most classes) to get our work done. All the instructors are nice and respectful. The building is gorgeous and a great addition to the city.alex heard

This is the community college of Andalusia, Alabama,where I am currently enrolled. There are wonderful people here. The academic counselor happens to be my favorite,a very caring woman. My next favorite would have to be the art instructor. A very honest ,upbeat,down to earth kind of lady. These are very special and " down to earth" ladies with magnificent talents!! Please, if you are not having a high risk pregnancy, DO NOT HAVE YOUR BABY HERE! I feel like if I did not leave when I did, I would be dead. I was admitted with pre-eclampsia. Now, my nurses on the maternity unit were good and so were the nurses on the neonatal unit. My baby is biracial, and one of the neonatal nurses did not believe that my son was my son. She said are you sure you are here for that baby…. But that's another story. While on the maternity unit, a patient care tech charted my blood pressure as normal and did not actually check my blood pressure. SHE FALSIFIED MY BLOOD PRESSURE! DO YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THAT IS ON A PRE-ECLAMPSIA PATIENT!!! I emailed Terri Poe, the chief nursing officer, and the nurse manager for that unit. No one EVER called me to follow up with me. The charge nurse offered me a parking pass, which is ridiculous. Bottom line DO NOT HAVE YOUR BABY HERE……Jennifer Dean

Went there for the first time ever on 1/25/21. I babysit 3 boys 5, 3 & 1yr old brothers. The youngest ones both have medical issues & I went with their mom to take them for a checkup. When I say that I've never seen a more caring staff, and I mean from the cafeteria workers to desk clerks to Dr's….I mean it! The nurses & physicians (sincerely) pay attention to *every word you say to them & every question you ask! It's extremely apparent how much they care about their patients and that's hard to find anywhere!!! I love these kids as if they were my own & I'm so happy that they are in such loving, capable hands❤Holli Sanders

The best hospital I've ever been to. The staff is awesome and the bedside manner is great. They make you comfortable knowing that you're probably going to be there for some time that it being a critical hospital. The love they give is an understatement. If I was rich I would tip the doctors, nurses, techs, etc. for my gratitude.If don't nobody else realize there job I do and I salute them to the fullest. They are definitely Heroes. They gave my baby the best treatment and they taught me how to handle him when I got home. They are the best!😍💞Kesh S
