By far the worse school you could attend . The school charges you for a education , but you never have a professor. I attended the VA program which was a complete waste of time . You don’t learn anything with animals instead you are working with stuff animals. There are never teachers at this campus’s, let alone by whole time attending this program I had a teacher literally verbally assaulting me via text message and changing my grades constantly. I had to eventually go to the students president who therefore didn’t solve anything , and then once he did at this point it was useless because I already wanted to drop out but I was in too deep. The counselors were aware too of the situation and did absolutely nothing about it , also if attending this school pregnant, be aware they don’t believe in Time of leave , and or doctors note . After I gave birth to my first son they wanted me to finish my proficiencies not even 2 weeks after my son was born , even with a doctors note explaining postpartum rules ( when I had 3/5 done). They also didn’t let me take my exam at a later day, I had to take it not even 24 hours after giving birth ! Very unprofessional and unorganized school . I would avoid at all costMillie AndZelik

NOT a success story. 2018 graduate for VA program. I graduated the top of my class and I am currently unemployed. In both the clinics I worked at, the position of an actual Veterinary Assistant was never granted to me. First place I was at I was a kennel attendant for a year and they didn't like me enough to promote me. Second place, kennel again, position of Veterinary Assistant didn't exist and had to consider becoming a tech – a far more independent role that I was NOT ready for given the deadline I had and my coworkers being too busy to train me. My certification never, ever held much weight. I am thousands upon thousands of dollars in debt and my life was almost ruined. I can't afford monthly tuition anymore. Dreams crushed. Years wasted. Have to literally pay for my biggest mistake for the next decade. Now that I've lost faith in the medical field I don't know what to do with my life. Be wary. I had a pretty great experience with Ross. Very hands on. We learn by doing things on each other. The teachers are awesome. They make sure you are very prepared to go out into the work field. Everybody is rooting for you there. I met some very amazing people at Ross. They also help you find a job when you're done with the program. This is a great stepping stone to get you into the medical field. Or in general if you're looking to make more money. Tiana from Latitude Training Center proctored my CNA exam. During the skills test, even though I knew the steps, I was very nervous and overthinking everything. Tiana’s calm, positive, friendly personality definitely helped put me at ease. When you have some one looking over your shoulder judging your every move, it can be stressful, but she never had me feel stressed during my skills test. Latitude Training Center has a great staff that offers a 17 day CNA program that is relatively cheap compared to other programs. Even though it’s a fast paced program, it is very educative and you receive a lot of training throughout the program which makes the state exams very easy. Because of her Skills Refresher Course I went from being sure I was going to fail the skills portion of my state test to being shocked that I was actually confident in what I was doing! I would not recommend this school. There wasn’t any heat in our classrooms the entire winter. Students had to bring their own heaters and we only could plug up 2 with out blowing out the circuit. (They also have a heating and cooling program ) There still isn’t any soap in the cafeteria. Some one put water in an old soap dispenser, and over 100 students share that. The ST (Surgical technician) instructor is rude and unprofessional. I have documents, videos and dates of her yelling at me, cursing, threatening me and no one did anything to her. Actually, when I tried to report her, it actually got worse. I’m not the only one from this school…. or other schools who said the same exact thing. The man from financial aide will call, email and text you several times a day when you have to make a payment. The reviews are fake/ from employees themselves. Abcott Institute is a great place to help you with a career in the medical field. Abcott also have other areas to advance your career. The instructors are Helpful and encouraging. The Surgical Tech. Program with Mrs.Miller is great, she a firm and knowledgeable instructor. Working in the medical field especially the OR is no game, you are dealing with people lives!! The course is tough, at one point I wasn't so sure if I could finish. I talk to my instructor, made sure I studied more and did what I had to do to improve myself. It’s a lot of foolery going in this school program not accredited and make sure when you pay for you certification test and pass get your money back because they will not mention it if you don’t and it’s included in your tuition. This has to be the worst school if you are looking to further your education. I am in the electrical technician program and I PROMISE you it would be better to just become an apprentice. The only thing this school will do for you is give you the school hours for your journeyman test. One teacher is SERIOUSLY ONLY here for his extra pay check, the other teacher expects you to remember everything even though he has only talked about it ONCE, and the other teacher can only help as much as he can. The other thing is, they tell you it’s about 75% hands on 25% bookwork. I am on my last mod and so far it’s been about 85% bookwork and 15% hands on and the little bit of hands on work you do is un-realistic. Long story short, I wish I never came here, please don’t make the same mistake. Dorsey has failed the pandemic graduating class, there was absolutely no communication or follow up after an earned externship. They failed to communicate an existing balance. Leading to me wasting a year of my life thinking that I was going to graduate and move on to me not being accomplished and in debt. 2,900 is the balance that was due and not communicated due to lack of employees during the pandemic. Dorsey was a great experience for me, at the time I was really going through in my personal life and they were very supportive in helping get through in the death of my husband which was just before graduation, having my hearing disability they made sure I was able to understand and pass my courses, I graduated with my Medical Coding degree and obtained a job before graduation. Unorganized and accent is too thick to understand. Mainly african Nigerian and etc there so they tend to grasp it easier. Fortunately i already knew what i was doing so even if i didnt understand what he said i was ok. Class is divided like high school ( not due to him) i suggest if you do go here then you should form a study group (you'll figure out what i mean) and study online as well. I initially wrote a 5 star review of this training center as we were told to leave a review in class before we received our diplomas. This training center has its objective pros and cons. I took my course at Rivergate skilled nursing facility. The course was quick, only 3 weeks so that was a plus for me. Be aware that there is a lot of information to cover in these short weeks, so you will need to work hard and study in order to pass. If you read the chapters you will do well. One con that I will point out is that Thea will give an unprofessional attitude/response to almost any question asked concerning this class. Whether it be about information, or questions about testing, she is not kind and will refer you to the "handbook" which does not answer every question you may have. This makes the environment unnecessarily stressful. However, the other 2 instructors are very kind. For example, my class handbook states that we use Prometric testing facilities. We were told we were available to take the state test right away. I get a text months later asking for the spelling of my name to send clearance to test via headmaster. I asked for clarification of information, and of course, was given an attitude and said she told us this information multiple times in class. I sent this information to my classmates and they too were confused. Even if I was told this information hypothetically, I would just expect to receive a straight answer. Being rude isn't necessary. Overall, I am pleased with this course as I previously already knew the information and it was quick and easy. I was nervous and intimidated when the program began and I wasn’t sure if I would hang in and finish. I really enjoyed attending MHA for my CNA course! I learned a lot of skills that prepared me for my hands on clinical that we attended this week- and I feel prepared for when I am officially a licensed CNA (tomorrow is our last day of the course & of clinicals). In 2009, I entered the OCC Southfield campus with some transfer credits from Baker College Ultra Sound Program. I was guided to a counselor by the name of Mr. Sloan. I asked him if there was a wait for the surgical technician program. He stated there was no wait you just have to take nine more classes. I took the nine classes and finished them by December of 2010 which would of put me in the September 2011 internship. In the spring of 2011, I was waiting for the letter in the mail. I did all the necessary steps I needed to take for the program. When I didn't receive the letter, I went to find out why. Sloan comes out of his office with some papers and takes me to the cafeteria in the lower level. He forced me to sign them and told me I wasn't in the program for the 2011 year. I was irate because I had given up my prior career as an award winning hairstylist because of lack of medical insurance as single woman.In 2013, two years later they sent me the letter after I had been hit three times from behind in my car. I read the letter knowing I would no longer be able to do this with my back injuries. I threw it in the garbage in disbelief of what had gone wrong. He was black and violated my civil rights. That deserves immediate termination of his position. He is lucky I didn't smash the papers in his nose. He would of have deserved every bit of it. Since 2011, I have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and have not worked.Carol A Bourgeau

If you ever have Jeffery Eichold as a biology professor please beware. He is very racist and bias towards anyone who is not white even admitted to lying about graduating college to get the job. I was walking from the student parking lot across the street and I stopped to wait for him because I thought he was going to drive past me and he made a turn into the employee parking lot without using blinkers. This is the type of treatment you get at this campus. Other than that this is a horrible place to get an education or anything else. The lady I went to see for a transcript request was extremely rude and rolled her eyes the moment I walked up. When I asked her what was the process for the form as it was my first time doing one she looked at me like I was stupid and said just read it. My experience is only with this campus specifically. I've been trying to sign up for classes at OCC for almost 2 years now. The first year I had some personal issues which is not their fault. However since then I've been trying and every time i call the counseling department the staff is extremely rude. Once a lady asked me several times over the phone if i was a new student. I said yes and told her i had already taken the steps leading up to this and my next step was to meet with a councilor. she completely dismissed what i had said and told me to apply. I again told her I had already done so. She then proceeded to tell me that i would have to utilize walk in appointments because they were completely booked up. Which is okay but she made me feel stupid for even trying to make an appointment. its hard to convey how rude she sounded over the phone. it was super unprofessional. I've also been hung up on before by the counseling office. Other than the counseling office, placement testing and applying was easy and the facilities are very clean.Ashley Reed

Financial Aid Office is ineffective. They do not communicate in an acceptable and timely manner – it takes them two weeks to reply to an email and their reply was grossly incomplete. They will not afford you any critical information that could save headaches in the future. They have poor patience over the phone and they pass blame unto others. Oakland CC administration took weeks to post my grade that was requested of my Economics professor three times and myself once which was a time sensitive issue to have complete transcripts sent to another college. It was stressful and infuriating. Even the professor said these individuals in charge were incompetent. Wow! Oakland CC certainly does not appear to be devoted to one’s education or success. Hate to give such a negative review for such an affordable school but the staff here really need to step their game up. I've worked for a university and know how students should be treated – prospective and enrolled alike. It is such a hassle trying to enroll here if you're not in person. Staff will throw you all over the place from office to office for games of phone tag and may not even answer or call you back. My boyfriend, a veteran, initiated the process to get enrolled beginning at the end of last year, inquired for help several times, and still has not been able to enroll in classes. There was an office we called asking for help and we were met with condescending instructions and transferred to another office without warning, with which we were met with a voicemail and never received a call back. I just graduated last February and receive my Lpn license in April. Dorsey wayne is a wonderful school, the teachers, the staff goes above and beyond to help. What I love the most is there is always tutoring if you need it or wants the extra help. All the teachers are willing to explain again and again until you understand what was confusing and if you need more they set up a tutoring session for you. It has been a challenging year but I am glad I went to this school in particular because I know they gave me all they could for me to succeed as a nurse. I completed the Medical Assistant program at Dorsey in 2005, then came back to be an instructor some years later. Overall I'd say Dorsey is a good school and if you put in the work, you can go far. I've watched many students complete programs then go out into the field and create better lives for themselves and their families. Some even come back and complete additional programs. They are nice to you until you are in school but then they don’t even answer phone calls. In my prospective, it’s not a good school because of what they did to me. I took one class -online- for 4 weeks, I made my down payment of $2300. I returned the laptop and did not take tools. I met the teacher one time in campus and about 6 times online. Fantastic music and theatre program that I aid with. It's also a pretty campus. Every time I go to the Take 5 Lounge, there's always a group or two of people who are making a ruckus. I know it's a difficult slope to tackle, I don't think it's appropriate hearing the n-word in normal dialogue while I'm trying to eat, and I say that as a black man. It's not just those groups though. Groups singing some musical or someone talking loudly on their phone is annoying to hear.Ramone W

However, you are getting excellent Professor's in smaller classrooms, which I really thought was beneficial for me. I like knowing nearly everyone in my cohort. Saddened to be leaving this review. I feel like this community college does the bare minimum to get my money and give me a piece of paper. Can we get some career resource support? If there is a career resources department, they do a terrible job assisting students and graduates. Just tried to call the counseling and academic advising department at 3:05 p.m., but was told "we don't have any counselors or advisors here right now, call back on Monday when they stay on the phones til 5:30." I guess being open until 4:30 on Friday is just a suggestion. I would try to complain, but if the advisors left at three, then the management was gone at noon. Instead of spending money on renovating buildings/parking lots they should be spending money on hiring new people. I don't know if the workers are rude because they are underpaid or if they simply lack people skills…either way…the staff members(minus teachers) who works at South Campus are terrible. I'm enrolled in a Master's program of Architecture at UDM. The curriculum exactly fits my needs and considers all my previous education. Staff and students here are more like a family, that creates friendly environment especially for new students. Studios here are mixed of theoretical and practical approaches, which expands my experiences in both ways. The school shop has all kind of machines that help in doing models. The school has good ranking and reputation in the area. The dean is such a great person, also he is AIA Michigan president of year 2017. Since I got here, I have learned a lot and my skills increase especially in design and using computer softwares. The professors here are really nice and so helpful, they always have their doors opened for any questions or if you're seeking advise. I have been in contact with U of M when I was applying for a Master's program, I found them careless, kinda lost and unorganized, unlike UDM School of Architecture, they know exactly what're they doing and care about each single student in the school. School here gives students good chance to meet with professionals and big companies to help get them a co-op or and intern position once the student graduate.George Morkos

I do not recommend their clinical psychology masters program. The feedback from professors to students about being too “cheeky”, or “share more opinions” has nothing to do with the ability to practice clinically. The suggestion to share more thoughts/opinions in class if you want a letter of recommendation would not have gotten me a letter of recommendation! Apparently it was relevant if the professors liked you and your sense of humor rather than ones ability to provide therapy and conduct assessment. Overpriced for the value. There are plenty of places to get a degree from. I’ve found little from this program to be useful in clinical practice. The training I received following graduation was much more relevant to my practice than theories, having the DSM read in class, and learning to administer projective assessments. The level of diversity was appalling. The most diverse individual I can recall was a middle aged white male pursuing a second career. As a first time parent sending a child off to school I feel overwhelmed with the enrollment process. The staff is not very helpful. The first time we went in to meet with someone, no one would sit down with us and we were sent away with a checklist paper as our form of help. I could have printed the checklist out from home! I wouldn’t have taken time off work to go there. The checklist was helpful but not what we needed. There was trouble submitting our FAFSA and it took longer than we wanted to fix it, causing us to register for classes later than we ever planned to. The advising office recording prompts tell you they are open until 5pm and it’s drop-in only and you could “drop in over the phone”. You can’t make an appt. For some reason, they wouldn’t let me call on behalf of my 17 year old son so he called when he got out of work at 3:30 and they refused to help him. They closed in 1.5 hours and it was “too late.” They told him to call back between 8am-9am if he wanted to get help. So why does the recording say you can’t make appts and they are available until 5 for drop-ins? When in actuality you only have a 1 hour window to call each day! I felt like he must have misunderstood so I called them back and the woman snapped at me for calling and pointed at the fact that we were registering late. Then when I explained to her why this was nearly impossible for us, she made the exception that she would let him call as late as 12pm. He started getting nervous so he took an early lunch at work to make the call this morning and then they told him he would have to take time off work and finish registering in person (again conflicting with all other info we’ve seen). So I made another call to ask questions about this and they told me we could register online, but it was clear the woman on the phone was frustrated with me for having questions and taking her time. Nearly makes me want to throw in the towel and start at another school. We are intelligent people. The process shouldn’t be this hard. Maybe don’t work in admissions if you don’t want to help kids and their parents. Don’t expect parents to not be involved when enrolling their 17 year old kid for school! Have to do it that way? Fine. But expect me to have questions when my kid can’t relay every bit of information you told him in your conversation.Kelly Neal

There was a teacher that made discriminatory comments to my girlfriend over Blackboard while trying to fix an issue. After submitting an SC aware and receiving an initial response, we have heard nothing back from the administration. Very disappointing from not only a student’s perspective, but a former PAL and tutor who has worked closely with professors from this college in the past. Gross negligence is the only appropriate way to describe the administrative attitude towards students who have these same issues.Gerrit Hartwig

These guys are very good at teaching people who never road a motorcycle to becoming a good rider and safe rider. When I took my class there I thought that there is no way some of my fellow classmates would learn how to ride ,let alone pass the class and by the end of the class they're pwas riding like they were doing it there whole life. Recent events: 03/24/2020 This is by far the worst place to try to get information. When students call for information regarding their account it states to call student accounts. NO ONE answers the phone. Students are asked to leave a message. Students leaves several messages over a period of time and NO ONE returns calls. Students are to graduate and NEED information to help students. We go in person to speak with someone in students services. The people at the Downtown campus were nice. We called the number that was given (District Financial Aid) and the person (male) that answered the phone was no help and rude. He stated that he would pass the information along and when asked how long it will take? No answer. He was reminded that there is 34 days left for the semester. He was asked 30, 45 or 90 days? or 2 weeks or 3 days? Still no answers. Students call to get answers and students get sent from place to place. WCCCD Need to make an area for Students Accounts. Maybe if there's a section for them students can receive faster information. Disclaimer: Not all staff are HORRIBLE, those who are HORRIBLE make it harder for the ones who do ASSIST students. There should be a list of the staffs who go above and beyond. To be HONORED. The HORRIBLE staffs picture need to be posted on a wall.Truth Matters

Lousy and unprofessional, even by community college standards. The few professors worth anything aren't worth dealing with the rest of them. The people giving this institution high ratings are likely very, very inexperienced with post-secondary education and think this is the standard. It's not. You, dear reader, deserve better than WCCCD will give you. I received my first failing grade *ever* because one of their professors is incompetent about running online courses, and then was churlishly rude in his response when I suggested a way to make everyone happy. Will the college do anything to help? Of course not. They've already gotten my money, and apparently don't realize that greed will cost them in the long run. Don't waste your time or your money here, because they very much do not care about providing a quality service. Take your tuition dollars elsewhere, and I'll take bitter pleasure in the knowledge that I helped some poor student avoid making the same mistake I did.Steven Schnepp

Their staff is very unprofessional! They’re also liars as well, it’s hard to trust anything they say because they never get it done. I wanted to transfer to a university for the winter semester but they needed a letter of completion stating that I have met all their requirements. My transfer advisor said she’ll take an email instead. Do you think they did it? No! Lied to me saying they would. Don’t get me started on the struggle to ask the advisors to send it. Another lie was the official transcripts. They said January 14 was the date they would be ready. I called them and they told me they weren’t ready. A month has passed and the transcript still aren’t ready! Please do not attend this school. I should’ve went somewhere else because they’re so useless.Kourtney Feagin

Wayne State is often overshadowed by U of M and Michigan State. That goes for athletics, academic prowess, and the fact that it is in the very center of Detroit, a city that is really trying to be that much better. And it is. The same can be said about Wayne State. Architecturally, this place is incredible, (a literal sandbox of the famed architect Minoru Yamasaki and worth the visit literally for his buildings and reflecting pool alone). The professors are overall great and push their students for excellence. Unfortunately it is also a place where educational inequality prevails, with a lot of students transferring out, mainly due to systemic inequality in high schools. It is getting better but it is a long road. The "4 year degree" hasn't been achieved by everyone due to having students often "catching up" with core classes. That is the reality. However, if you do make it through, it is worth it. I want to one day see Wayne State placed in conjunction with the big 2 schools in Michigan.Theodore Hynes

It’s a great! Division II school. However, NCAA Division Sports is not the end or beginning to an education. Contrary, Detroit seems to be summed up as oversimplified. The city and the people who go to Universities in Detroit, people of color generally speaking. People of color maybe depicted in a way- propaganda. The professors here are the best teachers I’ve ever had and they are some of the nicest people I’ve ever known! They are great educators, and they do their job, give them a raise! But they are not the reason for the low rating, the college administration, welcome center, and security here are terrible, for example the welcome center is very slow and unorganized, and they don’t do their job properly, not to mention that the college is overly expensive! All the administration cares about is making money, they don’t care about the students. Even the security here is honestly terrible random people can just walk into campus without anyone knowing who they are or what their business is at the college.Rushid Tahiri

Was in a 4 class CAD certificate program. After 2 classes a few people dropped. They canceled the rest of the classes because they then weren't going to make a profit. No refund & couldn't even reach the department head. So stupid! Business based decision that's bad business. Supposed to care about students AND be a business too. Was great 20 years ago when I got my Associates degree. But back then anyone could speak to department head.ray chavez

The counseling here is garbage. I have been told so many different things when it came to academic advising so I never knew what the truth was. I've been incorrectly advised about drop out dates and now I owe them money. Only had one good teacher here. Don't go here and don't waste your time.Marielle Cianfarani
