20 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Oklahoma City, OK (2022 Updated)

During a high school graduation, I was requesting help from the ORU security and Mabee Center hired help. I was verbally and physically assaulted and verbally assaulted, disrespected, humiliated, district, confused, appalled and taken back at how everything unfolded so fast. I was just trying to get help, I in no action of a crime, assault or anything illegal, simply in the lo by requesting help.. I do not recommend anyone to have there family here for any reason.. wish I could have posted a much better review. 😕 never again will my family be tarnished by the "spiritual" aspect of a college or business again.BP Family

All the people are so friendly! Most of t He students a d staff come from the south, so they all have that warm, southern love for everyone. The professors are outstanding; they genuinuely care about the students and their success-not just academiclly, but developmentally and spiritually. The campus is lovely! There's so many garden areas, benches, and trees! There are even little bunnies hopping around everywhere! The gardeners are on the clock every day, making this camus truly exceptional. I have been going to oral roberts university for almost two years. It has truly changed my life. It is a place if fully embraced can lead you closer to the lord and to the career of one’s dreams. The professors are world class. The workload can be challenging at times but is to help in preparation for the work force. SWOSU is full of intelligent staff! Dr. Moseley is amazing! This man has seen every advancement in computers since he was working at Texas Instruments and received one of the first PCs to be used at their facility! He has forgotten more than most will ever know! Star was docked due to removal of one of my favorite teachers. Lovely campus! This is a great mid-sized college. My classes usually have around 15-20 students which is perfect for me. Everybody is really friendly. Professors know all their students, they even know their strength and weakness. My 1st year of college was tough since I was a pretty shy international students from vietnam, but my professors helped me a lot. I really enjoyed my time here. Honestly, I love Dr. Johnson and how we just kind of mentally clicked. I don't go to this school, but the man is an excellent individual to have a conversation with for you to just walk in and have questions. If you're that intense about chemistry and physics and how the world around works, the chemistry department is awesome. This is my sister's first semester here, and will be the last. These people make you jump through hoops with all the different paperwork and verifications they need. I've attended 3 different universities and 1 is in a whole nother state and I haven't had so many issues. Not only does there financial aid page not make sense. You can't even see what aid is going where because of the ridiculous amount of fees and clutter on the page. Worst experience at a school yet, and I don't even go here. My siblings all go to different universities in Oklahoma both pwi, and hbcu and this is by far the least organized. I regret picking this university for her. Only good thing is the dorms. Walked the nature trails. A pleasant experience in the midst of the city. Over the years the asphalt trails have become increasingly broken up so it's not a smooth path but it is enjoyable. The college is a pleasant place.Mike Gardner

This school is hardly what it pretends to be in its recruiting campaigns. The professors are usually great, and the student culture is very welcoming, but the administration of the school is far over reaching, and their public image is decietful at best. Nothing really sets this school apart from any other secular liberal arts college except their over-bearing restrictions and expectations. They claim to be affordable and award academic scholarships generously but don't factor that into your budget for the long haul: tuition rises, awards don't. Apart from those scholarships, the school is especially expensive and needlessly so. They require an expensive meal plan for their unbelievably wasteful cafeteria and they charge high price for minimal housing accommodation. You will find that once you enroll here you drop to the bottom priority of the administration. Everything here is about impressing visitors (well except for the attrocious landscaping across campus). On football game days, you will likely have difficulty finding parking spaces, despite the fact that you live here and ought to be able to park here. If on gameday you decide to park elsewhere on campus (if you manage to find a space) you will almost certainly receive a citation. Citations are enforced on the students who live here and pay to attend, but visitors are given a pass for just about every infraction they could dream of committing. For their most recent new residence center they have added only a gravel parking lot (behind the building so visitors hopefully won't see it) and I assume they don't intend to pave it considering it's been 3 years now. Who knows if this trend will continue. Internet has never been great here but it gets worse as the years go on. They have installed more restrictions over their network as the years go on. YouTube is hit or miss since half the intersting things you'll find might be blocked. (I'm not talking about just innapropriate content, but almost anything from an unverified channel that might be censored). Like most Christian colleges they have a chapel requirement, and they are very strict about it. You won't graduate unless you watch all 96 of the half-baked evangelistic sermons they force feed you and don't you dare try to be distracted by your phone or with homework. I don't want you to get the wrong idea here. You probably will struggle to find another university that's much better about most these issues. My point is, though, that OBU really is nothing exceptional as a school and especially not as a Christian school. It's very clear that they are far more concerned about the prevalence of Christian appearance than ministering to their students or their community. Just go to a state school and join a campus ministry if you really want a Christian experience in college. This place isn't worth it.Tony Carter

You won't find a university with a more caring staff, faculty, or student body. Within a week of being on campus, I found my place. OBU offers plenty of student organizations and sports and encourages campus involvement (Biggie, Spring Affair, basketball, football, TWIRP, and more). Yes, classes are rigorous, but I felt more prepared for a career than friends who attended state schools. After attending a state school myself, I can say I felt more like a person than an ID number at OBU. Your professors will know who are and even invite you for afternoon tea. Whether you are enjoying the hammocks in the spring, filling the fountain with bubbles, or attending Canterbury, it's easy to find your place at OBU.Cami Sayre

The theatre professors are great and a lot of the students are nice but other than that this school sucks. You are forced to take classes that have nothing to do with your major, forced to do chapel and worst of all the food is disgusting except on days they have students that are wanting to go there to school. Its a waste of money and time and too expensive. You are better off going to OU or another college. And you will not get your tuition money or work study jobs. And if you are a theatre student you are forced to build sets even if you want to act. And if you are a minority your chances of getting a part in a play is slim pickings. This school enjoys collecting fines from students and scrutinizing young adults, even going as far as to kick them out with no chance of finishing their school year or earning their money back, because there was a male student hanging out with them in their apartment. 8 years ago, that’s exactly what they did to me! As an OC alumni I daily an thankful for my time at OC. I was challenged intellectually and I greatly enjoyed my time with my brothers in Kappa Sigma Tau. I plan on returning for graduate work because of the personal relationship I gained with many of my professors during my undergraduate studies. It’s not the actual service we have a problem with. It’s the customer experience. After they neglected to contact our insurance like they were supposed to they told us we needed to pay $1100 or so. We did thinking that they had done their due diligence with our insurance. But we thought it was real high so we contacted our insurance ourselves. Found out that PSO never contacted them and that all we were supposed to owe was a small co pay. After WEEKS of asking PSO finally sent us a check back. But they hadn’t signed it. Now they need us to mail it back so they can sign it and then mail it back to us. 1. We payed digitally. Figure out how to refund people digitally. It’s 2022. You demand payment upon services rendered yet drag your feet on a refund when it’s your fault. With the state of the world you think our family doesn’t need $1100 in our bank account? I can wait weeks for that? Would you guys wait weeks for that personally? 2. Most people have insurance. We specifically have really good insurance. How would we not just be liable for just the co pay? You’re lazy. Figure it out. Have some conversations with your billing or front desk people. They’re slacking. 3. They did what we payed for. I won’t complain about the actual service rendered. That’s why you get three stars. Figure out the other stuff and you’re fine. 4 year old: Testing for autism Session 1: Dr. Ana was awesome with my family. She showed patience though out the whole session. She asked a lot of questions and I felt like has a good understanding of our son. Session 2: Tech assigned for diagnosis was not patient and explained to my son that other appointments are waiting so he has to complete the tasks. The task was matching the top image with a related image below. He was not interested and moved his hands over the whole page and the tech picked one of the images that he pointed at. Our child did have several episodes that will work on a persons patience but is manageable. The session was discontinued: agreed upon by both parties. Session 2: Continuation TBD PS: I feel there was a lack of communication between the Dr. and the Tech. His love for building (Legos present) made me think there was a good transfer of information from the first session. But the unawareness of his current inability to to be distracted from his fixation on a task he is engaged in was concerning. I truly feel that the second session would have led to a misdiagnosis or at minimum a lack of understanding of our son's capabilities.Joshua Lewis

I just want to thank your entire team for everything! Everyone was very knowledgeable and friendly throughout the process. I really appreciated that the timeline and process were explained to me when I called to book my appointment, and I was emailed the week before with an estimate of my costs. I always get the runaround when trying to ask about what my out-of-pocket will be at other clinics. It was nice to have that information up front to allow me to budget. I did have to mostly leave voicemails when I called, but always got a return call the same day. My referring doctor said it was the quickest turnaround for this kind of service he's ever seen which I believe. When calling around initially, I was told 6 months to a year to get in. The worst experience I’ve had at any clinic. I’ve been having severe mental health issues and they do not return calls. The provider missed 2 off my virtual appointments and the staff did not give any instructions on how to do anything. I’ve been needing to be seen for 3 weeks now. If you are having a bad time or thoughts of harming yourself/others PLEASE DO NOT CALL THIS CLINIC. Update: i was messaged to remove my review and i will not. I’m sure Dr. Ford is a very good provider but dealing with the staff prior to getting an appointment is unbearable. I was asked to reschedule 3 times because i was not sent any links to my virtual appointment. I missed out on work for appointments to not be seen. I left urgent messages for 5 days and they were marked complete instead of a returned call. I work in healthcare and this would be unacceptable in my clinic. The staff didn’t even apologize for anything, just keep saying to reschedule when it’s their fault.Kisha

The staff all around is terrible. Most of the professors act high and mighty. Constantly remind you that they’ve already gotten their degree while simultaneously refusing to give answers to the smallest questions. Also, departments such as housing and student conduct do not seem to care about their jobs. I constantly email, call, message; no matter what I do, they place me on hold and never get back to me. I’ve had the same concern for a month and tried THREE departments and nothing has come of it. I have pictures, emails, call logs and videos yet am not being taken serious. Parking is atrocious; why did I spend $200 just to not have anywhere to park ?! Such a small area is designated for student parking for as much as we spent on a pass. As someone stated before it’s extremely boring, and for us to be spending money for so many different things, we have access to so little. The professors at this school are amazing and the campus itself is very nice. However, parking is a nightmare and so is getting your GI Bill set up. The last school I was at made this process go by smoothly. Here, I did everything as instructed months in advance and still fear that I won't be able to enroll into classes next semester due to financial holds since my paperwork for this semester (that ends next month..) Has just been processed through the VA. I was told there's only one person processing all of the paperwork for every veteran student. This is unacceptable. If there's so many veterans at this school, employees should be proportionate to demand. College charges kids $700 a semester to park a car in their parking lot even one day a week. There are people that can afford this many cannot. This is an unfair burden that is being placed on UCO families. Our child has to walk nearly a mile to find a place to park their car at school off campus after they drive 40 miles to get there. Now we are constantly worried about what's going to happen when they have to walk to their car late at night. Edmond as a city is not near as safe as it used to be. The UCO parking lot fee structure is exorbitant and unnecessary and this parking for profit will ultimately bring harm on those that cannot afford to pay UCOs sky high poor tax.SilverJ

I have read multiple negative reviews on here and I can say the majority are lies or from people who did not attend school here. Langston is one of the best universities you can attend to get an education. This is an affordable university that allows a student the opportunity to get a degree or two in many different fields. I attended LU from 1999-2003 and I had one of the best experiences of my life. I came from a primarily African American high school in Oklahoma City and I left to attend LU. At my high school there was a feeling of family and camaraderie. LU had the same feeling. from my first day on the yard to my last day at graduation I always felt like I belonged. There is nothing like seeing your own people around you all time all moving towards one common cause….EDUCATION. There is nothing better than going to a university where the president (Ernest L Holloway) stops you outside and ask your name where you are from and just talks to you about school. I can remember this campus before a lot of renovations were made. The first week of school was nothing but parties and people hanging outside getting to know each other. I remember people playing games and having game nights. I remember students supporting each other and helping out their fellow students when they had no food at night. Once I had a flat tire and a guy who really didn't know me stopped to help me change my tire. Go to a PWI and see how you are treated. Why be a number when you can be a name. Why take all of your athletic ability to universities that don't value your culture, who you are as an individual and don't even have your best interest at heart if you don't perform on the court or the field. Even on this day I still talk to the majority of all of my friends made on campus. We are all married now, have families and still return to our Alma Mater. Stop talking negative about this school and if you see a need support financially or by forcing our legislature here in Oklahoma to funnel more dollars to the only HBCU in Oklahoma.H G

It never ever seems to amaze me, that the grounds of this university is always simply manicured and very well kept. Not ever, have l seen trash anywhere on the grounds there. There are so many beautiful sceneries around campus, especially the campus pond/lake that is kept clean as well. Impressing as it is, lm happy to write a review, as my child REALLY ❤s his HBCU through and through and hope that you would too if you're considering joining the Lion's Den. The education rigor is truly astounding, however, you will have to make the best of your education by staying vigilant of your business as a whole. Langston is truly an experience to be had for the students that attends. This review is strictly related to several Langston graduate's lack of proper training and self motivation in preparation of their resumes as well as lack of professionalism during job interviews. The vacancies were related to very well paying federal jobs that included great benefits and opportunity for promotions. Of the many job applicants involved, those from Langston averaged a grade of 'C' on their resumes and a strong 'D-" for their interviews. Some applications only listed personal info along with their transcripts with most revealing average grades of 'C' and below. In addition, their sloppy attire, lack of preparation/knowledge of the position they were applying as well as their lack of ability to make eye contact with the interviewers and articulate are just a few related issues to this review.L J Cobb

As an African-American female I have benefited in employment & professional promotions by being a graduate of OCLA (1971). In job interviews ( Texas, Missouri, Miss.) I'd been told of the good rating of the college. Also, I personally enjoyed its culture and problem-solving skills enhanced through research. I was personally challenged academically. Student-body consisted of young adults from various states. My greatest joy is having Dr. John Morris as my advisor. He exhibited professionalism in teaching, communication skills, appearance and in his interaction with staff and student. His encouragement and planning educationally were significant in me pursuing a master's degree. He was one of a kind gentle-men. He took time and showed an interest in me. My regret is that I neglected to share with Dr. Morris my successes. During that time there was a sociology Professor out of Calif. who invited students weekly to meet in his home. Being from a conservative, Christian home the discussions increased vastly my awareness of civil rights progress and activism. I retired from public education in 2002. Excellent college however the residence life is dismissive of suggestions and refuses to acknowledge problems such as when the gates are open people who don't pay for parking are parking inside the village residence, if you work you're penalized by a "first come, first served" policy (because how dare you contribute to society and actually work while going to college) that doesn't apply to staff who have their own reserved spots for parking near the buildings, dismissing the idea of doing region based parking for those who live near say building D to have parking near building D reserved for them and C gets parking near C, and so on. Went to the residence life office and was dismissed despite the sentiment being shared and having another student agree with the idea, which seemed a reasonable proposal. The housing life could do with having less stubbornness and actually having a process to allow suggestions to be voted on and approved rather than dismissing them. Feels more like you're living under tyranny you're paying for instead of a mutual arrangement.Aaron English

Not a great option for adult learners or those needing online classes. I had some great professors, but most classes had very limited professor involvement and were basically a glorified computer program with a high price tag. I also had emails ignored by more than one professor which I found to be unprofessional. I feel that the lack of engagement makes this school a poor value. LOTS OF KRAMER NURSING STUDENTS REGRET COMING HERE. Kramer Nursing School has VERY LOW QUALITY OF EDUCATION. There are lots of INCOMPETENT INSTRUCTORS who do not know the subjects well enough to teach the classes. When students ask questions, they either tell the students the material is in the book or they say they will get back to you with the answers which they never do. Lots of students have to drop and retake courses because of the poor teaching. There are so many students who are VERY UNHAPPY and TRAPPED in the program because transferring to another nursing school means starting nursing school all over. There was a MASS CHEATING SCANDAL in the summer 2013 in Adult Health II course in that half of the class were put on academic probation. When half of the class were caught with academic dishonesty, there were systematic problems with the program. Students resorted to cheating on exams maybe because of the poor teaching. Kramer nursing program should be anyone's last option. If you are on the waiting list for other nursing school, just wait.Kualuwan Kurlawalee

I am extremely unimpressed with this college. While I had a great experience with my private violin instructor, I found the culture at OCU quite distasteful. I can’t speak for every department at the school, but the staff (and deans) at the School of Music are not very helpful and can sometimes be extremely disrespectful. OCU desperately needs to work on improving the experience for students and making them feel more welcome. OCU also gives very lousy financial aid compared to other colleges in the state. Frankly, the quality of the education and the service for students is not worth a tenth of the price. Would not recommend.Micaela “Mack Truck” Shaenys

I attended OCU for 2 major reasons. 1. OCU has an outstanding science curriculum and medical school acceptance rate. 2. OCU is known around the globe for excellence in performing arts. I loved OCU because I was able to continue double bass studies with the amazing Dr. Schimek and to earn a great scientific education at a liberal arts university. My experience with Dr. Reeves and Keys For Hope, PLLC was 5 star! I chose Dr. Reeves to do a psycho-educational evaluation for my daughter. We were able to be seen by Dr. Reeves in less than a week after contacting her ofice. The evaluation took place at her business address in an environment that was welcoming and felt/looked much like being at home as opposed to a typical office atmosphere. The results and write up were completed within two days after the evaluation. The tests that Dr. Reeves chose to administer were very beneficial in helping my family, her school personnel, and employer to make necessary modifications and accomodations that will help my daughter to experience success in every area of her life-personal, social, emotional, and academically.
