20 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Mesa, AZ (2022 Updated)

I've had a wonderful experience here, and I've been to 2 other universities. The faculty & professors all actually care about you as an individual. Your life outside of class and your goals matter to them. Class size is small! I've never been in one bigger than about 13. You'll start to recognize faces, and it's easy to make friends & find friendly mentors. There are so many helpful outlets to apply for scholarships and other aid. Tutoring is free and convenient hours for it. Also, very helpful transfer experts who assist you in going to ASU, if that's a goal of yours. My only complaint is that sometimes a class doesn't fill up enough, while it's taking enrollment, so then they have to cancel the class if not enough interest. But I would definitely recommend coming here — I'd say it's the ideal community college.McKenzie Wilkins

South Mountain has the greatest and most diverse students and it is a joy to teach them. I always look forward to the start of the semester when my classroom fills with great gifts, ready to learn. Its seems as though the entire community is represented, young, old, every color, faith, culture, awesome vets. I teach CIS105, Survey of Computer Information Systems, and have never used a textbook, nor do my students have to purchase any software.. As a futurist, I enjoy preparing my students for their future. My students end their semester with me with a professional portfolio of their work from throughout the semester which is their own to keep.Laurita Moore

As a student and student worker this college exceeds every expectation I could have ever had for Community College and my first Community College. Advisors are Hands-On and want you to succeed. They will work with you and all types of ways to see succeed and do well. And they look into all possible resources to help you through your college experience in any way possible. They also have free counseling services, tutoring, disability resources, scholarships and grants, student life and so much more it's amazing. Paradise Valley Community college is more than just a college because it is truly a community with people who truly care about your success! The teachers, staff, and students all make you feel welcome. The campus is also beautiful to talk a walk around both indoors and outdoors. Buying/renting textbooks and any needed items physically and digitally is a pretty smooth transition! One of the best interactions I had at PVCC was when I was inquiring about enrolling at PVCC in Fall 2020 for the spring semester 2021 as a new student, the supervisor in the PVCC Admissions/Recruitment office for new students (I cannot remember his name… Alex/Josh maybe? He's the main supervisor for new students for PVCC) was SO kind over the phone! He literally talked to me for 30-45 minutes explaining deadlines for FAFSA, placement test advice, payment plans, what scholarships I should apply for, broke down how FAFSA exactly works depending on how many classes you take, and even connected with me about him being a former actor then how he transitioned to getting an educational degree when he went back to school before landing his job with helping college students which was so neat to hear as I'm a Theatre Major so he was not only able to provide some insight as a former artist but he eased my anxious feelings about not knowing everything I needed to do in order to apply because he was very personable and didn't get annoyed at me when I was asking basic questions about enrollment. He was the FIRST college person to break everything down and give me an order of what was important so I could be as successful as possible. I didn't get that type of kind and thoughtful explaining about college when I was in high school applying to colleges. I had talked to other colleges and universities where conversations were off-putting unfortunately they would just say everything you needed to do as a new student within 30 seconds and then get frustrated if you don't understand or needed clarification. I highly recommend PVCC if you're looking to do your Associates Degree, Associate to transfer to a Bachelor's at university, or even to take some classes just for fun because you just want to learn THE THING you've always wanted to do but are scared, do it at PVCC (for me it was dance classes, I finally did my first two dance classes EVER at PVCC and I loved it!).Rebeca Anvik

PVCC not only has a beautiful campus, but also offers a wide variety of programs. Student life events are another great advantage of this college. PVCC actively offers opportunities for students to get involved, and provides support for students to succeed in their academic goals. I have been so impressed with the faculty and how attentive they are to students concerns and needs. The school also does a fantastic job of engaging and empowering students! I have made so many friends through my participation in student clubs and organizations. I’m graduating from the nursing program this semester, and I am so thankful for the education and experiences I have been provided. The Nursing professors are outstanding! They are supportive, encouraging, uplifting, professional, and hold their students to a high level of learning and comprehension. I do my running on the track, it's not the most modern up-to-date facility when it comes to their sports courts, it could use some upgrades, but it's free and it's a very nice setting and backs up to the golf course, and it's better than running on the concrete streets. Not sure how the community college itself is it looks real nice I'm sure it's beautiful I just use the sports facilities outdoors.Thomas Uhlenberg

Not too bad of a school overall — class and professor wise. However, the enrollment and financial aid staff are horrible. Terrible and irritating process to get you set up with everything. This was back when I first started going there in 2012. Not sure if anything has improved or not. They were also VERY understaffed at the time. It took me so long to graduate as well because I would get mixed instructions from different counselors. You never get the same counselor twice. Granted I made it in 2 years but I did have to do summer classes because of the 'changes' that kept happening with my degree. The counselors are not very well trained with each degree program. It's best to literally ask your professors about it or you can get a better understanding from counselors at the University you want to attend later. The teachers I had were phenomenal! When we got there we weren't sure if we were going to have a really long wait in line but no what we found was the nicest people posted at the cones that they had set up for the direction you were supposed to go in. They gave excellent information and instruction and we had absolutely no problem getting through our checkpoints which they did check that you had an appointment and verified some information and then we went right straight on through and there was one car in front of us getting an injection and it just took a minute and they drove off and we pulled up and they gave us our vaccines. There were two of us in the car we both had appointments and again everyone was just really super nice very knowledgeable about what was going on. They knew their job and they did it very well. This campus is amazing and not nearly as sprawled as any of the other community colleges/universities. The engineering, mathematics, computer science, and physical science (chem/bio/physics) classes are top notch. The smaller classes sizes means you're getting more personal attention and education than ANY of the universities for any of your classes. I really mean that. Also, there is always decent parking, since the buildings are all in the center (for now). I would have finished my degree here, but it was way too far when I lived in central PhoenixLloyd Allen

I would not recommend this school, I am truly and whole heartedly regretful of choosing this school over all of the other options I had. Something about this school stood out to me, and the counselors here try really hard to get you in. I do not identify with Christian faith and I am not religious at all so I initially felt weird about going to this school, but they mention multiple times that they accept all faiths and backgrounds so I felt better. However, upon talking their forced “Christian Worldview” class, the teacher grades with an iron fist for a 101 class and is just awful. My GPA for sure was going to plummet due to this stupid 101 class that they force on you. Honestly it was so ridiculous that I felt the need to reach out to my advisor. I was trying to come up with a solution because I felt some type of way about this. I suggested them placing me with a different teacher, since this teacher has AWFUL reviews going back years yet they do nothing about it. However they pretty much told me I still had to take the class, I could not switch to another teacher (you cannot pick your own teachers by the way which is huge for me now). Their only solution was that “another teacher would review my work.” This turned me off so bad from the entire school that I ended up withdrawing due to principal which messed up my financial aid. They honestly did not care one bit and obviously know there is a problem but do nothing to address it. I was so turned off that I chose to mess up my financial aid and just pick another school, there was no way that I was finishing out my degree here after this. Go elsewhere !!Taylor

I am an Atheist. I chose this college because it had the focus I was looking for, the delivery method was fully online so I could continue to work, and the price was the best around. I did not feel like being of the Christian faith was a prerequisite. My instructors and professors were not pushy with religion, and for a master's program, I felt like I was able to learn what was necessary for the field I was in. I have a Master's degree and 2 focuses now from GCU and I couldn't be happier with my education and experience. The guidance counselors were great, the financial aid process was easy, and I'm grateful for GCU and all they have done for me.April Wittmeyer

Parking in Garage building#7 on 33rdAvewas the best for going into the areana. We had to checkin at theguard station, drive around it then enter the parking garage. Parking was allowed on the 2ndfloor and above. It was the AFHE homeschool senior graduation. The campuswas very green. The areana was building #38 there is a museum to JERRY COLANGELO here and a beautiful tripple cross monument. The restrooms are spacious and everything but the soap dispensers are automated. My Story As a former student of the University of Advancing Technology or UAT I want to reach out to all future students that are considering this school as an option. I spent from 2012 – 2016 completing my undergraduate program with my Bachelors of Arts in Video Game Design. Where I worked 40+ hours a week, maintained my family life, and completed my program online. In my 4 years every professor that I had was extremely supportive an really promoted and communicated the expectations and understanding of the quality of work that needed to be done as well as the opportunities for students to continue being successful with academics while navigating life challenges. From work/life balance to family medical emergencies everyone single professor was able to help me navigate those challenges while not having to exit school for any duration of time. When I finished my undergraduate program, I left UAT with a solid knowledge and understanding of what it took to make games and how to get that career path started. Because of my positive experience at UAT the first time I decided to go back for a graduate program with a Masters of Science in Technology Leadership. During this time, I was not working and had every opportunity to focus 100% on school for the 2 years I was enrolled. Then COVID 19 happened, UAT was able to quickly adapt and conquer the challenges that social distancing and remote working guidelines had put on almost the entire nation. UAT used its knowledge and passion for technology to not only mitigate COVID challenges but also keep every student on track to succeed in their educational journey with little to no delay. I finished my Masters program and during my exit interview found out that I could dual major with just a few more classes, so I decided to extend my stay there for one more term and finish my Masters of Science in Video Game Production and Management as well. Conclusion If your looking for an education in the technology space, heavily consider UAT as your choice to attend. Let me start off by saying I wish I could give this school a 2.5. I went to this school (2016) with financial problems immediately. I had a financial adviser who told me that I could attend school there and everything had been paid for. Literally after five minutes of being there I was told that she hadn't checked if I could actually attend there, but had only assumed. This was a huge problem seeing as I had flown from Washington to Arizona to attend this school. Upon my nine months there my financial adviser had changed three times. The only thing I really enjoyed was Renee, she has always been kind to me and my situation even to this day. In regards to the academic side of the school, I don't think you get much out of classes for what you're paying. With how much you end up paying a single class would be $180 which is completely insane when a few of the professors don't actually teach you anything. I was a Programming Major and from what I saw and from how I was treated if you already knew how to program or you picked up on it really fast you were automatically favored – this also went for the Game Art degree. During my classes I had been accused of cheating off of a peer when I didn't. Some of the classes are a real challenge though and they were definitely worth the $180. Now onto Founder's Hall. I was an RA there for 6 months. The dorms are messy and there's hardly anyone in the dorms that's social. Due to this their rooms are disgusting and a lot of rooms here do have cockroaches – it really doesn't matter if you're clean or messy, there's cockroaches. I will say that the school seems to be doing a bit better with the dorms and the cafe and what not, but people are still falling out of that school due to the fact that it costs way too much for anyone coming from middle-class or lower. I wouldn't have left if it wasn't for someone who was finishing up his last semester. He was a close friend and had expressed to me how he hoped I wouldn't stay here and have my money sucked out of me and end up with a degree and no job.kkylenkk

My son and I have been so impressed with the staff at UAT that we sent them letters telling them so. We appreciated the warm welcome, well-coordinated incoming events, personable staff and flexibility for students. The communications throughout the year have been great as a parent back here in Minnesota. The logical response to the unprecedented demands for Covid19 included thoughtful adjustments for the residence hall, school operations and courses. My son received support and accommodations for ADHD, anxiety and depression. Ashley in Student Services has been an incredible support and advocate for him. We were able to meet with her together and I was immediately grateful that she was so knowledgeable and warm. I knew he would be lucky to have her as a support. Ashley is enthusiastic and genuinely interested in students. She makes a point to reach out to them and visit the Commons as well. Although my son has been an excellent student in the past, he struggled with the new responsibility of creating his own schedule. Being overwhelmed and anxious led him to fall behind significantly. Ashley supported him, brainstormed options and coordinated schedule adjustments. Teachers provided accommodations on an ongoing basis. I recognize the understanding and time this degree of extra coordination requires. They deserve recognition also. My son and I both felt that what he has learned at UAT, both in and out of classes, was even greater since he developed skills through these struggles. He considers it all a tremendous learning experience. In summary, we've been incredibly pleased with how UAT operates and meets student needs personally and academically.Linda Ell-Egermeier

As someone who isn’t from the USA and relocated from United Kingdom , it was important that I made the correct choice when it came to education in the United States , after doing my research and reaching out to different schools who have a massage program I chose gateway because from the first contact with Mr Tapscott he was super friendly , passionate and helpful , he made sure I had all the information I needed and he directed me to the right place to complete my registration to the program . The price is amazing and they definitely can charge way more for the service they provide , gateway and especially Mr Tapscott made the process so easy and comfortable . My first day of class was so welcoming and they went the extra mile to make sure I/ we students were comfortable , I had the best experience at gateway and this experience was due to my fellow classmates but mostly for the teachers attitude and pride in teaching , Mr Tapscott , ms bouer, and mr Ybarra were amazing , they are so good at what they do and the effort and dedication they put in to each and every student sets them apart from any other education opportunity I’ve taken , we created a family and this includes the teachers , they allowed us to learn at our own pace and didn’t disrespect us , they encouraged us , the material in the program was inspiring and the method of teaching made the learning fun , it was a pleasure to go to gateway for the 9 months of the program and I looked forward to seeing my teachers and classmates everyday throughout the course , the program allows for Externship which gives us the opportunity to work with others in the community also work with employers of massage therapy , it gives you an insight to what to expect after the program . This in my option gives you the experience and confidence to be successful in your future , I love Mr Tapscott and is in my opinion an amazing teacher , a kind , honest , trustworthy person who has pride in his work , he has a pride for everything he does or talks about , I couldn’t of asked for a better college to attend and I am blessed to be apart of the experience and to see people who are passionate about what they do to improve peoples lives . I felt included and that I had a voice within this experience. I recently graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at Gateway. Mr. Tapscott and his team were the most supportive, inspirational, knowledgeable and humorous group of instructors I have ever studied under. Mr. Tapscott taught the online portion of the course that was heavily weighted in anatomy, physiology and introduction to massage therapy. Mr. Tapscott was always offering assistance to students and following up on financial aid, GI Bill funding, finding places to do externships, or assisting with any other issues the students may have faced. The lab portions of the class were taught by Mr. Ybarra and Ms. Bauer, both experienced massage therapists, both dedicated to successful outcomes for all the students. Mr. Ybarra is known for his demonstrations on various massage and stretching techniques during labs. All three instructors shared a great many stories of their experiences in the massage industry. This team of teachers worked very well together and created an environment where the students felt proud to be part of the class and continuously improved in their massage skills through out the course. Each teacher has a great sense of humor, will be direct if there are issues to address but they are always respectful and professional. The program was also the start of many long lasting friendships and a successful future in the massage industry for myself. I highly recommend the Gateway Massage Therapy Program for anyone that has a desire to improve peoples lives.Kathleen Dimitruck

DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL!!! I have been attending this school for a while. When I had enrolled I wasn’t given proper information. I do online school and I’ve been struggling with math and biology and to my surprise the instructors do not put the effort in to help other students online. I went in to speak to an advisor and low and behold she didn’t help either. I have a learning disability and stated that information to the advisor and the best answer she gave me was “unfortunately we don’t have special services for students who have disabilities” I’m in the process of getting my associates degree in DMS and no advisors informed me before I started the program that I needed to take an HESI Exam. Another thing is for students who do the online classes, students have to their webcams on to take the tests/quizzes but don’t require it during other class time such as completing assignments. IM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS SCHOOL!!! THERE IS NO HELP WHAT SO EVER AND DONT HELP STUDENTS SUCCEED!! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! And because I struggle in math, I’ve tried free Tutoring and they only available for an hour and if you need more time you need to make a new appointment. An hour gets 3 questions done and they still don’t walk you through the process.Monica Balderrama

Mesa has a lot of great classes and opportunities but there are major issues. The sign up process for classes is confusing, many of the pathways online that are supposed to show you the courses you need for degrees are incorrect. Of course you should contact advisors to figure out which classes you need, but it is nearly impossible. There are so few advisors and very little availability. As of right now it asks you to make in person appointments with them and yet there are never any slots open. You can email advising which takes 2-3 days to get a response. You can try and call their office and wait on hold for an hour just to eventually get hung up on. It is in no way the advisors faults, anyone I have actually been able to contact has been as helpful as possible, but it is so hard to get a response or any help. I signed up for courses that the online pathway said I needed only to find out that they weren't actually necessary for my degree and others were. When I went to drop the courses and add the new ones it wouldn't let me because I owe money for the courses I am still enrolled in that haven't even started yet. So, I cannot sign up for the correct courses, have no clue which classes I actually need and cannot find advisors to help. I understand during the pandemic it is difficult for universities to find staff and help, but even before COVID Mesa was still just as inefficient. Mesa just needs to improve their communication and assistance with students, it would solve so many issues.Taylor Pouncey

MCC has a fantastic non-credit program for older adults: NFLL, or New Frontiers for Lifelong Learners. For an extremely reasonable fee, I sign up for as many of the program's classes as I please. They're online, in-person, or a mix of the two. There are also some field trips; we've just gone to a free day at the Desert Botanical Gardens, and next week there will be a trip to the new one in Queen Creek for a fee. A class on WW2 planes had a trip to Falcon Field, etc. Over the last few years I've taken classes in history, tech, health, music, and much more! There are also groups for discussion, playing games, hiking for 3 different levels, etc., as well as social and service activities. In-person classes are at MCC Mesa and Red Mtn campuses usually. Some classes have been through Great Courses, and many lecturers are former teachers/professors or experts in their field. Check it out–great program at low price! Update: on-campus classes are so easy to get to: it's a small campus (either Dobson or Red Mountain), and the free parking is ample and easily accessible.Natalie Satterthwaite

So I just signed up today.. I think which is the problem. There’s like 5 people sitting at a desk “helping” people get set up but they did absolutely nothing to help me get signed up they didn’t tell me I couldn’t sign up for my class the same day as I walked in and told them exactly what class I wanted and that I never attended college before. They don’t tell me it’s some weird 24 hour wait for the account to start working and they also did not at all clarify to make sure to take the student photo because now that I chose to skip that because NOBODY helped me I’m unable to finish my application lol hice apparently if I don’t finish in 48 hours will be deleted? They also didn’t tell me that. So this has been an absolutely awful experience thus far and I haven’t even been able to join a class yet.Ryan Jorgensen

I came to this school for 2 weeks in the fall of 2018 and it was NOT a good time. I left after those weeks and went to another school. The college had lots of issues, like broken furniture, no Library, lots of essential services were missing that students need. But worst of all, was the TUITION, about $22,500 – $25,000 for just TUITION. That is extremely overpriced for the services you receive. It felt very cheap. Please find another university to go to or please invest in community college! only $1000 or $2000 a year and some people can get it for free!Andrew Quintero

This was a really good campus. Some of the buildings are older, but it looks like they're updating some of them, bcuz I saw signs of construction everywhere. 👍 I went here for the General Revelation conference and got to watch Dr Brian Arnold talk about Irenaeus and the Beatific Vision. It was in the administration building in the back, inside the AT&t room. It had terrific stadium seating it was really comfortable to watch a lecture from this room. 😎😁 Whenever another conference happens at Arizona Christian University, I wouldn't hesitate to attend. 👊🤘Vin M

I have a mobility scooter because I can't walk very well anymore. This scooter is electric and I don't go very far on it as it has a limited range. The park I go to some times is far (in a wheelchair). I cut through the north campus parking lot 100's of yards from any building to save some battery. I felt dejected today when I was accosted by one of the campus police telling me to leave as is a closed campus. It did not feel like it was for my safety as much as him exerting his authority. I was just cutting the corner of the campus away from anyone. Edit: This happened around noonish on the same day I posted. I decided to take 2 classes this semester, both in person classes. One started in September and the other in October. My September class is amazing! I love the teacher and the curriculum. My October class was switched to online only days before it was supposed to start- I paid and signed up for an in person class specifically, and was not notified by anyone that it had been moved to online, leaving me with one day to find another class, or bite the bullet and do an online class. Very unhappy with the communication of the school.carly

They are a horror story. 2018 I applied for being a personal trainer. They put me in a weird stack of classes including world religion and other classes. They said I can't change no matter a student advisor's mistake. When I dropped classes they claimed I owed them almost $400 for their mistake and out a freeze on my FAFSA.Scandy Italian Ice

I've been to a lot of incompetent doctor's offices, speaking of both the doctors themselves and of the office staff, but none have been as unprofessional and incompetent as Bayless. My therapist would not show up for half his appointments, and he kept giving me a different number to call every time to reach him, which never worked. On the day of our last appointment he again was nowhere to be found, so I called Bayless. They told me he had left the practice. No one had bothered to call to notify me of this before the appointment. My psychiatrist is always at least twenty minutes late to the appointment. Her MA authorized the wrong type of prescription through my insurance which no pharmacy stocks, and every day I call the pharmacy they say it didn't show up in their order. I have had to call them about something they messed up at least once a month. I don't advise giving these people your money, or even your insurance's money, because they clearly don't use it to hire competent professionals.R A

Upon being referred in 2019 I was looking for counsel for my ADD child. While the provider offered very medication based treatment not therapy based, I went along with my son beginning with meds but, requested that he be referred to a therapist. This never happened even with persistent requests, I was ignored. Following up to most recently the receptionist continually was saying "they" when referring to my son. I inquired " we are just talking about one of my children or are you using non–binary language for my son. Just so you are clear he id's as him, he or you may refer to him by his fist name" Receptionist continued to DISRESPECT my wishes and my sons wishes on how to be identified. It is not her place to choose my sons pronouns especially when I have requested he be identified as a male per his wishes. He was born male and chooses to be identified as such.Lori blomker

Been seeing Marcus for 3 years. BEST DOCTOR i ever had. I moved from Ny to Arizona, and needed a Suboxone doctor. My treatment center put me on all these meds that i didnt need. Marcus was the only doctor i had who actually cares about his clients. He helped me Wean off from 8mg to 2mg, most doctors would say “ it takes years to get off it” just for a insurance check. Hes also very understanding. Honestly yall needa have this man as your doctor. Hes a FIREEEEEE doctor Because he helped me get on the right medication, my life has changed drastically. i can’t begin to tell you what a frustrating waste of time this was. i can’t discourage you enough from wasting your time attempting to go here. i encourage you to check the negative reviews. they don’t care if they waste your time. it is a chronic condition for them. they don’t answer their phones. When trying to make an appointment over the phone, I spent 20 minutes talking with someone about my history, my insurance, the kind of appointment/practitioner needed. They made an appointment for me. They then called back at a later date and rescheduled the appointment with a different provider. They told me to arrive at least 15 minutes early for paperwork. I drove 40 minutes to the appointment. Turns out, after all that, my appointment was cancelled on the spot because the scheduling department put me with the wrong provider. they then scheduled a video appointment. i had to repeat everything i provided on the paperwork because the doctor didn’t have it. Lighthouse Psychiatry is an absolutely incredible mental health practice. The front office staff is wonderful with each person and they truly seem to care and show empathy to everyone who comes and goes. Carol, my therapist who offers EMDR, is one of the biggest blessings I’ve had in a long time. She listens, she gets it, she speaks with love, empathy and compassion. She’s great at what she does and I’m so thankful for a therapy and treatment office that I don’t have to dread going to. First meeting seemed amazing staff was friendly. Following week was a huge fiasco with a medication issue. It finally got resolved. Now to the issue get a email stating they have no one to help me due to my VA coverage. This set up and news set me back weeks. If you are a veteran I highly recommend you stay away from this place. They pretend to be a community care service provider but seem to have little to no desire to truly help vets in the program. If this place is recommended ask for someone else. Way too much ad copy is being written by radio sales reps who'd rather be out selling. Much, if not most of the copy writing training these people receive is from other sales reps and stuff they've written. That's why most radio-produced ads sound the same, complete with those worn out cliches that can apply to anyone. "Best prices, friendly knowledgeable staff, conveniently located, wide variety, the sale you've been waiting for…" Even bad grammar. No, I'm sorry, writing ads is not something everybody can do. I attended HUAZ as a high school senior, taking two film classes alongside a full schedule of high school classes. I went in uncertain of the sort of experience I would get. Sure they had promised it would be a "creative hub" and I would get tons of "hands-on" experience, but if it was so great, why hadn't I heard of it before? However, within a month I was already directing my first scene. To become better at something, you need practice. To get better at writing, you write. To get better at playing basketball, you play basketball. To become a better filmmaker, you make films. This school provided me with the tools and know-how to do so. I got to learn about film making from people who've been involved for years. I got to use and learn equipment that would've cost a fortune otherwise. Finally, I got to establish myself as a filmmaker. The biggest advantage of this school is that it is very "grassroots" and homegrown. Although it is big enough to provide you with plenty of opportunities in the professional industry, it is small enough to be welcoming and encouraging. You aren't going in and having to follow the standards of decades of filmmakers before you. Instead you can establish your own style, and find what you enjoy about film making. Although the information you learn may be as good as anywhere, the experience is what sets this school apart. I am looking forward to another semester at HUAZ.Jack Mehl

This is the sort of school where you get out of it what you put into it. Meaning, if you work hard and put yourself out there, you will get the opportunity to excel. That doesn't mean every class and teacher is perfect…but one thing I love about HUAZ that isn't found at every university is that students have the chance to change the programs with their feedback. The people in charge truly want to listen to the students and make the school a place where students feel comfortable spending time there, learn what they want to learn, and receive all the support they need to start down their chosen career path. Since the school is so new, its programs are still "under construction." That means than not every problem has been ironed out and there will be conflicts as the school tries to find the right teacher for every class. But the future for HUAZ is bright because the people in charge ARE so open to change based on student feedback. At a huge well-established university, there is very little chance that one student could make a substantial difference in the direction of a program major based on their feedback. But here at HUAZ, they can. I am a healthcare provider. I have interacted with many physicians professionally both formally and informally as a result. I went to see Dr Jack Shier to address some issues that were affecting my life. To say my visit with Dr Shier is the best physician interaction I've ever had in my life would be an understatement. I can't remember any other time I've spent so much time speaking to a physician without being interrupted once, being asked so many clarifying questions, being evaluated so thoroughly, having medication options explained to my satisfaction, my every question answered in depth instead of brushed off, my options explained, an offer to bring my spouse in to discuss. Not to mention useful, real behavioral interventions I could begin using immediately (which I have and my life is already better). I was, and remain, blown away. Is the private pay expensive? Yes, sure. If you can afford it, is it worth it? Absolutely YES. This ISNT like those practices where you wait 3 hours in the lobby to see the phoenix Suns surgeon and they don't even look you in the eye, wiggle your finger for 2 seconds, tell you there's nothing they can do and send you out the door and then you get a $600 bill in the mail. Every minute spent with Dr Shier is time spent being heard, understood, educated without judgement, and treated like a worthy human being. Had my first meeting with Dr. Jack Shier yesterday. I don’t know yet how effective our medication decision will be, but I do know that I was given a very high level of care from the moment I put in an inquiry online. His staff called me within 24 hours. They explained the process, costs, and set me up for an appointment. They confirmed my appointment and got me all the forms beforehand. The forms were easy to complete. The office staff called me an hour prior to my telemed appointment and confirmed I knew how to log on. Dr. Shier logged on at the appointed time. Typically I wait a long time at a doctors office but he was very respectful of my time. He first let me tell him what my concerns were and he then asked questions to understand. He discussed options and explained them all thoroughly and explained his views on each without pressuring me to go one way or the other. Very good first experience! I would highly recommend!Lyn Cash

I can only say positive things about the Shier Private practice and Dr. Shier. Being a professional myself, I am acutely aware of how I am treated in doctors' offices and by the doctors themselves. I have only experienced complete courtesy and respectful treatment there. I wouldn't be surprised if the negative commenter on this review site has the wrong doctor in mind. The doctors Shier are consummate professionals. I would recommend them to anyone. And, if needed, it would be the first place I would take my child for treatment. MM D

Elizabeth is a great provider I will say. But if you need any assistance from the front office staff I would not hold your breath. In addition the medical assistants are very neglectful to patient care as well. I think most people that seek out psychiatry are already going through a lot mentally (at least that rings true for myself). I called at least 5 to 8 times in the matter of a few days to discuss a concern I had with my medication. I was told by several different people in the office including the office manager that I would get a call back and never did. Therefore I had to go days without a medication that I rely on mentally and emotionally. I was very symptomatic during this time and was shocked to say the least that their office not only didn’t return my calls but told me they had up to five business days to return my call even despite that I was out of medication and it says on the bottle to not stop taking the medication unless directed by your provider. I let the manager know that I was very disappointed with the medical negligence and that I was going to discuss it with Elizabeth (as her staff are representing her practice) and I was told that was a threat and hung up on. It’s very unfortunate that there are excellent providers out there that have front/back office staff that treat their patients this way and don’t live up to the same competence as the doctors. I worked in medical for over a decade and both front and back office as well as managed, and if my doctors ever received this type of complaint from their patients it would not be taken lightly. If you are looking for all around outstanding care from start to finish you won’t get that here because of front/back office and the manager. I will state it again Elizabeth is great but that’s about it.evangelina Martinez

Front desk rep was unprofessional and rude when I was three minutes late to my appointment. She told me "well you're late and you need to reschedule , next time be on time" the demeanor in her voice was insulting. I was late because I was placed on hold when I was trying to check in and pay for my treatment. I was forgotten about than disconnected. So I called again and that's when the front desk spoke to me in a rude voice telling me to not be late next time!!! First off I wouldn't be late if they didn't act unprofessional and let me check in and pay 15 minuets before my appointment!!!!! I never had issues here until the quality of front desk reps changed . Please focus on training front desk reps better. It's really annoying that we can't attend our appointments for THEIR neglegence . Considering the type of establishment this is people need their appointments especially when they (I) am responsible!!!!!L M

I absolutely can’t say enough about how pleased I am with my experience at Transitions Center. My provider, Lexi, is involved, attentive and caring. I have seen plenty of providers from other organizations in the past and never had this level of professionalism and care. I normally do Telehealth visits but when I go into the office I always feel welcomed and taken care of, especially, by the front desk staff and the medical assistant Jessica. She is truly such a kind and gentle person. She has always made me feel comfortable and cared for. Overall just great experience. I had been going to Midwestern Dental for over 6 years. I am 60 years old and unfortunately needed a lot of work done. Root canals, bone regernation (3 times in different areas), implants, cleanings and more. Each visit the student and the instructor go over every tooth and logged in their computer the different challenges with each tooth. I have had an issue with enamel loss on my front teeth. I did not realize that the enamel continues to erode . They never once said that this was a priority. Recently I went to their clinic because I saw in a mirror that you could see through my teeth! They then informed me that this was beyond their expertise . I asked if they could put something behind them so they didnt break off and they said it could not be done because my jaw had shifted and there was no room. They said that I could pick up my records on my way out. (I didn't because I was in tears so they sent them certified mail the next day). Devastation doesn't even explain how I feel. Two weeks later my front tooth broke off. I went to a private practice dentist and he informed my that there was only two options. I needed to get dentures or there was a procedure where I can keep most of my teeth. It is called a "all on one" dental implant. Of course that was the option I prefered. Then he gave me the estimate and it runs between $15,000-$25,000. (I got a second opinion and researched prices and unless I go to Mexico that is the price). That wasn't even the worse part. When the jaw shifted it caused irreparable damage. I could not be more depressed. I trusted the students and it cost me in many ways.Marcie Ross

I originally went to Mid Western to get 2 teeth fixed and a small partial. They since have pulled 5 molars removed my bridge never gave antib after the removal. My dental student was very rude to her assistant as well. Went thru a lot of issues since the extractions with my health. My BP elevated everything I was there due to stress. Never got the teeth I originally went there to fix. Finally quit going after my student pricked herself with the needle and I had to get blood drawn foe her safty….never once was given an apology. Would never recommend trying to save money and go here. My teeth used to be my best asset. Now I have nothing!Lorri Swan

I have been going to Midwestern University for over a year. It is a teaching college. I go for the dental work. Then are set up with a team and then you have the same students. When one graduates the other one moves up and they assign a new assistant student. The students are outstanding and caring. It does take more time but if you have the time it is worth it. Their prices are very good. What was going to cost me between $10,000 and $12,000 cost less than $4,000.Catherine Young
