There is literally not one part of this school that isn't actively trying to make everything horrible. They know they can't possibly be held responsible, so they don't care. Dealing with housing is like jumping through 100 hoops that are invisible and on fire. They don't tell you anything until the very last moment when it's too late. Registering for classes is just as hard. I was on track to graduate early and then they change the requirements which made multiple classes not count towards my degree and added new ones that aren't even available. The security is non-existent. The school is entirely aware of the dozens of bikes being stolen over the course of the past year. Still not a single camera watching any of the bike racks and they will fine you if you keep your bike inside. People try to open your door at any time. Whether it be 3am or 3pm. The dining hall is closed for every single break with no other options or awful ones. People live here, a lot without personal transportation. That's why the dining hall exists. They find every way imaginable to make more money off of their students. They will give you 3 parking tickets within 4 hours even with a parking pass, but they be soooo gracious enough to lower the fines after 3 weeks of pending the appeal. I've heard professors talking about how "stubborn" another professor is and how "they will use a textbook and curriculum until it's completely obsolete". They will give you 12 hours notice before you move dorms after telling you it'd be a month. They have partnerships with McGrawHill and probably every other online workbook which means students are forced to pay almost $200 for each class for a membership that teaches students absolutely nothing.Hayden Watts

I love how the school was near the water. It was quite redeeming. There are some fairly slow people that work at the school, but there are some really amazing people as well. I got my graduate degree from here and am so thankful for the time I spent here. I would go back, but I sure wouldn't live at Miramar Apartments. They were a nightmare.Derek Dorsett

I actually attend the other campus, but have had to stop by here for books or to see the proff. So far it seems like a very organized campus. I've come at different times of the day and there's always parking (sometimes further away, but I carry an umbrella for the sun) Once there were mariachi playing outside. The employees are always very helpful & professional and most of the students appear to be engaged in their environment. The bathrooms have always been clean when I've gone. I've taken 3 courses so far and the classes have been very engaging. This is a career change for me so I'm older, but I don't feel out of place.Gracie G

I was excited about going back to school it’s been 8 years and then I get bounced back and forth from one department to another and finally they tell me you have to get in contact with the Counseling department so I did I called and sent out an email on November 4 and haven’t gotten a response 🤔 maybe they are understaffed, okay but I’ve called 5 times today November 11 and no one answered I don’t get it 🤦🏽‍♂️ I honestly I don’t. I would not recommend this university to any of my friends or family, if zero stars were an option this is what they would receive, yes they did expand the university but made things worse. Graduation ceremonies are held opposite of their campus area, for instance if you are attending the Brownsville campus, your graduation ceremony will be held in Edinburg and vice versa. The cost of attending has sky rocketed. A couple of my friends who earned a double major had to fight tooth and nail for their respective degree majors'. To make things worse their parking is atrocious, even to get a visitor pass, you must pay!? What. The. Hell. Man! Lastly, they care nothing for their veterans – this university only works if you either know or are related to the person who is offering the job, if I'm being honest, our military veterans sacrificed more than any regular civilian ever would and therefore should be consider first and foremost amongst people who are not veterans. Take my advice, veterans, do yourself a favor, have Uncle Sam help pay your school elsewhere.LÖRD GAMBINI

Very little effort put in by the staff to do anything more than waste their students' time and money. Impossible to get hold of any of the advisory staff when it comes to things like tuition, curriculum, or international student programs. My SO has been going to this college on an education visa for years (more than she should have needed to to begin with) and sank a lot of money into getting a proper education, and the lack of effort to facilitate this for both her and other students- domestic or foreign- deeply disturbs me. It's been nothing but a constant source of stress and a constant hemorrhage in her wallet. Apparently this school is on probation for their overt lack of quality/effort but because members of the school body have good connections it's been kept open. School board really needs to dig their claws into this place and start making some major, sincere changes.Dag Von Danger

You get what you pay for. They offer some of the lowest tuition rates in the state, but that's the only upside. Facilities are poor, parking is rarely available, and there is a severe lack of course availability. Communication has been very poor, and we've struggled to get information from the college nor any assistance with enrollment. I had to make a complaint with the President's office just to get the help I needed. Plus, their employees are rather nasty and sociopathic. They have little-to-no concern for their students, and they're not afraid to show it. There is a lot of room for improvement here. Plus, I don't like how they are using student tuition money to recruit new students from Mexico, as well as undocumented aliens. Worry about your own students first.G68

I got admitted to the MFA(Art) degree program as an international student, and Dr. Grewal, the Exec. VP for Research, Grad Studies and New Program Development, offered me a generous Graduate Assistantship, as a part of the Presidential Graduate Research Assistantship offer from Spring 2021. Unfortunately, due to the spike in covid cases, deaths and immigration issues, I had to drop my UTRGV plan and continue my graduate education in my home country. But I'll never forget the people who are constantly working for providing the best student support, even during these testing times. Thank you, and god bless us all.Vanik G

Terrible customer service, I would switch immediately if there was any other distributor to buy from locally. They always take forever to unload, don’t have warehouse pick up anymore, don’t take credit card or cash, the delivery guys never refill the coolers like the other distributors do, my sales rep told me he can’t switch out expired beer even though customer service told me that they do switch out expired beer, because he says corporate charges them personally for any beer i send back. Drivers will make up policy’s that claim they have to block the entrance for my customers to enter while they take forever to unload. Very rude to my employees. They also could not provide any beer sliders like my other distributors when I opener my second location. They will add or substitute product constantly that I did not order without my permission. Also, they blocked my account recently and charged me with a non sufficient funds fee (when there was more than enough funds available) because of a bank error and left me without beer for a week after being a loyal customer never having a single check bounced over a year. O/O's DELIVERING HERE. I have been to many others beer distributors before, and they were all FCFS, not this one. If you're delivering here, they schedule you to be here at 0400, but don't open until 0600. The address on the paperwork (3900 McColl) has no access to the docks, and apparently they don't make enough money to put a sign with the DIRECTIONS TO THE DOCKS. There's a bank at the corner of Nolan and K, Texas Community Bank, take that access road, K, around and follow it to the docks. If you come in early, 0400, you will see some trucks park on the side. They're waiting for 0600, to be unloaded just get in line behind them. I don't know how safe it is to park there overnight, any criminal can figure out you're carrying beer and jack you, but I think you can park overnight. Also, they unload you according to their needs, so it don't matter who got here first. My advise to O/O's factor in 4 or 5 hrs of detention into your rate and avoid the hassle of fighting to get paid detention for your wasted time, also plan your reload accordingly.R Rdgz

We highly recommend their services. Dr. Eron Manusov and Ms. Patty (counselor) have been a blessing to us. We have tried different doctors and counselors but honestly, they are the best. They have helped our son tremendously. We highly recommend this place if your children suffer from depression, OCD, anxiety or any similar conditions. If I could, I would rate it 0 stars. As an international student who got injured during an art gallery internship that did not offer any payments (there are interships in which you get paid), there was nothing to be done. There is no insurance for international students. But! If you are a US citizen, you could be wearing high heels and break and ankle, then the University would do something for you. I graduated from there back in 2015 when the university was transitioning to be UTRGV. I am grateful for the Art Professors I had, BUT extremely pissed and disappointed at the International Students Advisors: Thelma Sullivan, Aragelia Salazar, and now Ricky Martinez. Those three didn't help me when I was struggling, when I was in deep pain. Bureacreacy towards International students is real rough. It doesn't matter if in many semester you earn great grades, I faced hell and distressful times. Went through several breakdowns. And I can understand WHY there are so many terrorist attacks in the US: because people refused to help. You must not listen but HELP. Counselors are useless! REMEMBER: INTERNATIONALS are the ones who give you MORE money. TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT! I wished I pursued a career in Internationals Diplomatic Affairs to do something for students going through issues like mine, create a program to defend them and sponsor them, and also fire those who work st the Mexican Consulate ( you cannot even trust in the Consulates either). Those jobs are a privilege, and should be about HELPING the immigrants and the internationals. NOT TO SCREW THEM. No lawyer in Brownsville wanted to take the case to sue against this University. And this is my vengeance: Ms. Marivel Graham or Ms. Marivel Ortiz (who happened to be my"boss" at the Art Gallery), I am telling you that after you destroyed me morally and physically, I am stronger, and becoming successful. The campus is nice, and the staff are friendly. Staff meaning everyone from professors to the janitors. The price to attend, especially for the locals, is very affordable compared to other universities. The merger with UTPA brings an exciting amount of opportunities that UTB did not offer before. My only concern is steadily rising prices for tuition and questionable professionalism from some of the professors. I'm not satisfied with the quality of education offered here. I' am not saying they do not have good teachers, but some could do better.Miguel Salinas

This University is really beautiful and great overall! I'm an incoming freshman and I feel really welcome (I'm a Chemistry major ). The people are nice and they also offer plenty of great majors, (especially engineering), and the dorms are big and beautiful too! They're not even dorms, they're 4 bedroom apartments and you can choose between a double or a single. Definitely consider this University, it's great! #FirstClassSky Stuff

Mr. Saavedra has helped our family out not only with infidelity issues but also with both our teenage and 7 year old daughters. He is well rounded with all ages and offers a different approach. He teaches techniques to use when he is not present. He communicates with us regarding our children to give us feedback on how best to help them. Other therapists over the years haven’t had the follow through and communication to help our youngest daughter. She would have her session and there was limited to no feedback on how she was doing or techniques to help with her anxiety, nightmares or behavior. I am very pleased with Mr Saavedra’s communication and approach. I have been recommending him to others struggling with marital issues and/or behavioral problems with their children.m mm

This place is ridiculous, 1st if you miss an appointment they are quick charge you a $100 and will not let you see another doctor until you pay them. I saw doctor Villbono today on zoom. And according to her and their rules she cannot see me not see me because I'm suicidal or have been in the past. She wants me to be seen in the office so that way if I'm suicidal they'll be able to call 911 and have me Sectioned. It's like it's OK for me to drive to their office feeling suicidal. What if I crash into someone because I'm thinking straight and crying. I don't feel driving is safe when someone is feeling that way. It's very sad that this office cares more about money being paid to them than your health and 2nd won't see you where you feel more comfortable and safe which is at home. This is why sometimes people that are depressed or have anxiety will not seek doctors because obviously they don't care, they don't care about how you feel, they don't care enough to help you when you need help. Incredibly thankful for the staff and doctors at the Groves. This was the first place I felt comfortable with my doctor and opening up about what's going on in my life. Past doctors didn't seem to care but Dr. Villabona has been amazing and I'm so grateful to have found this place. There is a fee if you cancel your appointment but its also up to you to read the forms you sign when setting up the appointment (making sure you understand and acknowledge a cancelation fee) and it's up to you to make sure your insurance covers the medical treatment you are seeking. I had one problem at the groves where it wasn't until the day of my appointment that I was informed insurance wouldn't cover it and the staff was incredibly helpful in the situation. This is the best facility I have been to while seeking help and I will continue treatment here as long as I can.Senya G

Dr Castillo is warm, friendly, understanding, professional, and very knowledgeable. I am very much enjoying my experience with him and regardless of whether you feel you "need" therapy or not, I would encourage you to try it out and explore where they could help you improve and grow in your life that you didn't even know you could. Original review 1 star: They never answer the phone, their auto attendant is a test message, and they don't return messages. Edit: I ended up going into the office myself and speaking to a counselor. I proceeded to complete phase 1 and 2 here. Amazing experience. Don't know if they fixed the phone issue, but the councilors are incredible.
