15 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Louisville, KY (2022 Updated)

I attended Sullivan for their culinary arts program and I have some insight for future students going into the program. First being, have an idea for what you're wanting to achieve in life. Culinary school is very expensive for what you get and there are other, more cost efficient ways to achieve your goals. I recommend working in the industry for at least two years before you decide to go to culinary school. You will find a lot of well-known chefs didn't graduate culinary school. Everything you are learning in school can be self taught or learned in the industry.The key to becoming a great chef is the understanding of the industry. I say this all because at Sullivan its just a matter of time before you're screwed over by financial aid. The entire department is very disorganized. Important papers of mine seemed to keep going missing in their hands making my life very stressful. Also if you plan on doing on campus housing just DON'T. It is crazy expensive and it is exactly like high school. I loved my time at Sullivan don't get me wrong but is it worth the money you spend, NO.Annah Cecil

I haven't had any problems with Sullivan. I have been here for about 6 months and after attending JCC and UofL I must say Sullivan has already given me a much better experience. JCC and UofL let me (at 18) pick a bunch of random classes that were way too hard and never got back to me about any issues, it took way too long to get in touch with anyone for meetings or questions and at Sullivan they are always a quick phone call or office visit away. Teachers seem to really care and take the time to call you on their off time to congratulate you on good test scores, inquire why you are missing class, or pull you aside in class if you are on the brink or failing or even on the brink of getting an "A". If you don't miss a lot of class there won't be any problems, and there are even students in my classes who are active duty and miss class a lot and teachers have been as accommodating as possible. I can honestly say that transferring to Sullivan University from the University of Louisville was one of the best decisions I ever made. Class sizes are small, so it's easy to ask questions and get help if you need it. The instructor's here aren't just trying to "push you through", they actually care that you learn the material. The food served in the cafeteria is great and all of the staff/personnel are super helpful and friendly. My only complaint however would be the financial planning office. Some of the advisers can be kind of rude and you have to constantly call/send e-mails just to get a response for an appointment, in my experience. It's best to just show-up in person and request a meeting. Other than that, I would highly recommend Sullivan University to potential students.Brea M

Long story short is that Denise Myers, Owner of Dreamcloud Psychology was paid to administer an educational assessment for my child, then stopped all communications and never delivered a written report. We were left with huge frustrations and out a large sum of money. The entire experience with Denise was so unprofessional and exhausting, it truly will sound unbelievable. Appointments were cancelled multiple times just before the appointment time with far fetching unbelievable excuses why. When she did respond, her communication was never prompt. There was no receptionist or office manager, so you were at the mercy of just repeatedly calling or emailing Denise with no response. She claimed to have emailed me a final evaluation, but would never resend it when told nothing was attached. Her dog which she claims is a therapy dog is untrained, jumping up on couches and bit my daughters shirt. While Christa Della Bella, another therapist in the office, tried to help me get ahold of Denise one time, she did not help again when Denise stopped all communication. It has now been months since we finally gave up trying to retrieve our money or the written evaluation. I would not recommend any person in this office. Once I started asking around describing my experience, I had several people have similar experiences or say things like “oh, yeah she’s awful.” Unfortunately, none of these people took time to write a review and give me the heads up. I’ve booked with Denise several times and 90% of the time I’ve been canceled on with zero explanation. Every time this has happened we’ve confirmed our session together via text that exact day. I then arrive at my appointment at least 5-10 minutes early, ring the bell, and even text her to tell her I am there. She does not respond to either. The first time she had to take her pets to the vet, then she had a flat tire, then she had gotten in an accident (which was entirely valid and the only time I could understand this being excusable), the other few times she’s had no explanation. Today I had an appointment with her after several months, and really needed to see her. I got there 15 minutes early and texted her 15 minutes AFTER my appointment time to which she still has not responded to. It’s been 2 hours. I’ve never dealt with such a high level of unprofessionalism. Especially being in this profession and industry, she honestly should know better and understand the value of other peoples’ time. Made our family feel comfortable and at ease, had a good rapport going on, and getting Into things that aren’t always comfortable to talk or even think about, yet somehow she made easy and natural. Very empathetic, very sweet, very much devoted to getting to know her patients (and their families if needed.) Dr Chapman is an amazing therapist. After 10 years of working with other well-meaning therapists I finally found the person who could successfully treat my ocd and anxiety. Dr. Mitchell is truly one of the best! Took my son there for his anxiety and she truly goes above and beyond. She talked to my sons school once a week and made sure parents stayed in the loop with our own meetings and constant email interactions. She is extremely easy to talk to and is great with kids! I would absolutely NOT recommend this practice. After two months of waiting for test results, our test administrator was terminated. The majority of my child’s testing was complete. The owner of the practice wanted to give me an incomplete report or said she’d complete it herself after never having met myself, my husband or my child. University of Louisville is where I am doing my PhD. I really love what I do and my supervisor, professor Sharp, is a great person both in research and personally. I learnt a lot from him. I am in mechanical engineering school. They have been spending a lot of money recently to renovate all the instruments in the mechanical workshop. For example they added five new 3d printer for students to play with. Also, they bought 5 new micro cnc machines. There is also one faculty member that teach the students how to safely work with these new devices. For the measurement lab, a couple of new instruments have been purchased that are really awesome. Fluid mechanics lab also has new facilities to explore different aspects of the fluid mechanics concepts. Being a lab TA, I can tell for sure that all the ME students are enjoying the new facilities. They have also been hiring top ranked new faculty members. I know some of them, they are from very top universities and can add to the reputation of the ME department. The financial aid department is the worst! I'm not certain if it's just "certain" students (everyone knows that certain means black students….well the ones who don't play sports for the school) who this department gives a difficult time or if they just don't know their jobs in that department. They will tell a student that they need 1 thing to complete their file, and once the student returns the paperwork, they will tell them they still need another document. The student will return that document and then be told that they need another. Instead of giving a student a list of everything that they need to complete their file they will have students jumping through hoops, running back and forth to their office and placing holds on the students account as if the student has done something wrong. University of Louisville, if you want to revamp, start with firing everyone in the financial aid department.Memoir Young

Great professors, I can't think of one that I didn't learn a lot from during my years there. Made a lot of great friends. If you have other options, I would encourage you to consider them before this University, though. The administration is corrupt, you won't have to look too far to find out about the scandals of the University. I hate saying it because I had so many fond memories there, but you can get a quality education elsewhere and avoid contributing to the cash-grab by the University upper administration/athletic programs (Google: UofL and prostitution, read up about it for yourself).R. My daughter is going to Bellarmine University. This is her 2nd semester and she loves it there! Although it is almost 3 hours from our hometown, and in the big city of Louisville KY, the people there have helped her feel at home. Although the University of Louisville is a great college too, I was very nervous about leaving her there because she is from a small town and everything is so extremely different, like a city within a city. Once we visited the campus of Bellarmine, we both KNEW, that was the perfect place for her to get her education experience and personal care along the way. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND everyone to check it out if they're considering a college in the area. They even assisted she and I with extra scholarship and grant help which closed the deal for us. Professors mostly have genuine interest in helping students. Good ends there. If you have tendencies with mental health issues, this university will not help you. Counseling center has one counselor and then the remainder are students. The counselors typically gaslight students genuine issues, and exacerbates problems. Myself and others had to work for years to undo damage which was done there. If you are STEM, specifically technology, this university is not teaching anything relevant to current technology. Residence life is expensive and restrictive. You will likely be stuck into a dorm with three or four students to a single room which was built for one or two. Most of your meal plan money ends up on the "administrative" side, enjoy your 7 weekly meal swipes and $400 flex dollars to last you months.Duncan

I'm not a student, just a neighbor. Love the campus and the staff works well with the neighborhood. Many of the students live in the neighborhood. Bellarmine sports teams provide a welcome distraction from everyday stresses, and they have been outstanding at Division 2; moving into Division 1 next year. Love to walk my dog on or by campus, watch the sports teams, and sometimes just chill in their green spaces.Bob Atkin

This school has been the biggest waste of a year and $40,000 of tuition, room & board, and supplies. If I could give it 0 stars I would and I would highly suggest had anyone planning to attend here rethink their choice. Just because they give you a scholarship does NOT make it worth it. There are plenty of other schools that offer the same degree for a better quality of education. Staff(professors, advisors, financial aid, food service, etc.) are all rude. I wish I was joking. Staff of all types are either blatantly rude or just ignore you when you have concerns/questions. As a freshman having to live on campus(Morrison Hall), Residential Advisors(RA’s) are extremely disconnected and don't keep confidentiality on problems they are suppose to, causing gossip and unnecessary tension. Morrison itself is also filthy. Residents do not clean up after themselves and each floor is always trashed and common areas(such as the basement/kitchen) are constantly having items broken/stolen by other residents. Quiet Hours are a joke and most RAs claim handling situations, “aren’t there job”, leaving assistance unreachable do to staff only being obtainable from Monday-Friday from about 10-4. We have been out of hand soap in 2 dispenses in the shared bathroom for over a month. I WISH I was joking. I wish this was some sick prank. On top of that, the idea of a 6 week class is fine until you have an underprepared professor, or have zero take away from the class itself. Due to the sessions being 6 weeks and have 3, per semester with a week in between it also makes it impossible to transfer after one semester. Since there is a split between session 3, and winter break. Making other university’s semesters start/end about 2 weeks different than Spaldings. Meaning, you would fail up to 2 classes if you decide to transfer mid year. If you are considering starting here as an undergraduate. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE reconsider. Do not waste your time or your money. There are other schools that would be worth the extra hundreds-thousands of dollars. Do not waste your time here.Atomic Axolotl

I applied for a job as a janitor at Spalding university. I am probably overqualified but i really wanted the job because it was within walking distance of my apartment. I tried to go speak with them in person a couple times after applying and was greeted with an extremely rude and unhelpful receptionist who refused to give me any information or help in any way. If you're considering applying here for a job or education I highly recommend you look elsewhere. The campus is comprised of old buildings in the bad part of town and if the rest of the school is anything like the people I interacted with then they do not deserve your time.James Duehring

I applied Oct 17 for admission and was told by admission counselor that Spalding was not a good fit for me and suggested that I go to JCC, before receiving any of my transcripts. After calling several times in hopes of speaking with someone else…I emailed the director of admission who convinced me that Spalding was not discriminating against me due to my race… But it is going on five months and I am still not admitted…I have been told my transcripts was not received, and had to reorder transcripts several times. Dr. Kleinman is an excellent resource. Very friendly and easy to work with. While I already had a regular psychologist, she was able to provide an assessment and second opinion. I would recommend her to anyone. My only concern was that she doesn't accept insurance, which may make it difficult for some.Addison Newton
