I was working on getting my Masters here, but in the end it didn’t work out. Admittedly, I had struggles in statistic work and did my best to improve, but just couldn’t quite get to the level of their expectations and so with only 3 classes left to complete my degree, I had to throw in the towel. I had an advisor that was difficult to get ahold of though and sometimes wouldn’t hear from him until the second or third attempt to contact him. Many times I felt like just an outsider in the program as I was a non-thesis student and they were more worried about their thesis students. Even when I did get ahold of him at times, he failed to get things coordinated and so I made a special trip to the school to complete something just to find out it was never coordinated. There was a couple of professors that I had a hard time following and understanding their approach to teaching the material. I asked if I could possibly take a similar class at another university and transfer it in, being that there were no other options, and that was refused by my advisor. I wasn’t the only one complaining about that class either. I use to love going to school, learning new things and expanding my abilities, but this place ended up burning me out and taking away that vigor to learn new things and pursue education. I plan to try and transfer my graduate credits elsewhere someday and finish my degree at another university.Steven Walton

Overall, this is an excellent college. It has a few problems involving students with loans and financial failure but overall the student body is cared for dearly. The president posts on Twitter often, the school representative (Jerry the bulldog) is seen around campus all the time, there are a lot of student events throughout the semester, the football team has gotten much better recently, the band is phenomenal, and the teacher to student ratio is great. I have had one lecture class with more than 30 students. Many of my classes are less than 20 students. The school tries to maintain a large school setting with a small school atmosphere. I strongly recommend Arkansas Tech to any students interested. Also, it's great to drive through and the food varies from day to day. Sometimes its great, sometimes it's not so great.Trevor Gould

Philander Smith College is a mold infested rodent infested campus where they don’t put any money into the students or the dorms living situation they only care about the money the washer and dryer is barely work and you can smell mold in your room and in your shower. I also was assaulted at philander Smith College twice in the Staff field to do anything about the situation so after the school year I decided not to come back but when I went up there to get my transcript they tried to charge me $250 for the situation but as a whole Philander Smith College failed me In many of my peers this college is overpriced and the teachers don’t care about your education for real I wish I never attended this college!!!!Douglas Official

This college registration process is "TRASH"! We will definitely be rethinking our "Spring" school selection. I have seen a lot of things go wrong with registration but this takes the cake. If you are considering sending your child to this college you should inquire about how they run this office. The rude unprofessional staff gave us the run around for 3months. She will not get a refund for the room and board we paid for that was not available. She was given a very unreasonable and unrealistic schedule, and now has to sit out for a semester. I'm a very unhappy mother. I would not recommend this school to anyone. The last couple of times one of my grandchildren has had to use this hospital have been major disappointments. The emergency room is ALWAYS understaffed. Other hospitals insist on sending babies here to wait hours on end. They no longer allow more than 1 adult with a sick child. Noone is willing to help while a parent waits hours needing to use the restroom, needing a drink or starving, all while wondering if their child will survive. After a visit on Thursday in which the child was discharged with nothing more than Tylenol and motrin, a call was recieved on Friday saying the child needed to come back for IMMEDIATE treatment for a blood infection. They said that everything would be ready when they arrive. 2 HOURS after arrival they finally get into a room only to be sent home AGAIN after about 4 more hours with inadequate answers. This 1 year old child is lethargic, has fever, cough and diarrhea since Thursday. He is negative for both flu types, covid and other viruses. After finding blood in his stool on MONDAY, his mommy takes him to a different hospital where they confirmed that it was in fact blood. They then transferred his info to Children's and ordered they do an ultrasound upon arrival back at Children's. Mom was told to give them paperwork and that she would not have to wait so long. 3 hours later, she is still in the waiting room, alone, unable to have anyone come relieve her for a simple bathroom break. Absolutely the WORST hospital EVER! They are not providing adequate testing, they do not have adequate parking for the ER and they are extremely understaffed. Other hospitals need to take on some of these children instead of sending every cough and cold to Children's. Or Children's needs more facilities with adequate staff to handle the number of children. Also, symptoms need to determine order in which children are seen. 3 visits from Thursday to Monday with fever and blood in stool should provide a clue that something is terribly wrong with this baby!Pamela Gray

My child was transported to Children’s at 11:28 A.M, while there I asked the nurses multiple times for food due to my child being hungry, at the time of 6:25 P.M nurses was asked again. NOW keep in mind that’s over 6 hours asking for food and nothing. Back to 6:25 P.M when the nurse was asked again she stated she would go get something and bring it back. Nurse comes back in stating that we are going to be discharged soon. I Informed the nurse again that my child has been asking for food since arriving at the hospital and the nurse stated well you are being discharged soon, when you leave you can go get something.I informed the nurse that we would have to call some one to pick us up because we rode in the ambulance to the hospital and that it is a few hours drive. So get discharged and go down to the cafeteria and guess what it’s closed. At this point we have no options left. While waiting for family to pick us up staff of the hospital comes up to us and tell us that we can not be in the building because it closes at 9pm and that we will have to stand out side, so now a starving 3 year old and I was put out side waiting for our ride in the middle of the night. I was going to pay for the food for my child but was denied by medical staff and due to the cafeteria being closed. Now I’m put in a position that either I have to walk the streets of a city that I know nothing about to find my child food and worry if we get kidnapped or killed, or set out side the hospital with my starving child until my ride gets here. I would just like to say that it is very disappointing that a hospital would treat people like that and very unprofessional. For 1 my child should had never been discharged after a few hours of arriving there due to his medical condition also denying a 3 year old child food that I’m willing to pay for. I believe for the neglect of the hospital and the Deliberate indifference on the medical staff I will file a claim and sue the hospital.Robert Gilbert

The triage nurse at the general pediatric clinic took my son's rectal temperature without my consent or permission. Without introducing herself or anything, she just took him out of my arms and started doing stuff to him without explaining or telling me what she was doing first. I would have declined having that done to him but I wasn't even asked or given the chance to decline. I filled out a complaint on the surveys they send out asking about your experience and the office manager contacted me. She didn't offer me an apology or promise me it wouldn't happen again or anything like that, she just said that's their policy and that's the only way they can do it for babies under 6 months. Then why do they do it under the arm at UAMS and Baptist hospitals, even in the NICU where my son just spent 12 days? But that doesn't matter. Even if that is their policy the simple fact is I didn't want that done to my son. I'm an assault survivor and just do not feel comfortable having that done to my son – especially when he isn't sick and it's just a well-child check up. And it absolutely shouldn't have been done without my consent or permission and without explaining or telling me what they were doing first. I feel like they violated my child and I left the appointment feeling very distraught and upset. A simple apology and a promise that it wouldn't happen again and that I would be allowed to decline in the future would have gone a long way and is all I really wanted. You can't just start doing things to people without informed consent. That is wrong and against the law.Donnie The Fu

Our teacher has been Mrs. Autumn Sawyer for 1st and 2nd grade. In the short amount of time that my son has been in school and at ARVA, we have greatly appreciated all of the things that she has done as his teacher. She works hard to ensure that all students are learning well and that each parent is aware of their students progress or needs. Mrs. Sawyer is very sweet, kind, and patient and we admire that about her. We know that teaching younger age groups can be quite a handful but she handles it very well. My ordeal was traumatic. I had major gut wrenching stomach surgery. My experience in recovery was very caring. Once out of recovery tho, I needed to stay in the hospital and that level of care drastically became disappointing. Supposedly pain medication orders from my surgeon did not transfer from the recovery stage to my staying on the floor stage so the nurse refused to give me any pain medication. She stated there were no orders for it so she could not do anything. Common sense did not kick in. I requested her to call my doctor and after many times of her not wanting to bother anyone, she said she did call the resident on duty and was told I could have Tylenol.The obvious pain distress I was in was either not seen by the nurse or chosen to be overlooked. It turned out, when my surgeon’s team arrived the next morning, I should have been given morphine every three hours throughout the night, instead I received one dose of Tylenol. How does this happen at a training hospital? In my case, I was already in pain from having had surgery but the additional unnecessary and excruciating pain caused by the staff could have been avoided. After years of being in business, one would think they would have proper supervision and protocols in place and have extremely good patient care but this is not the case; nurses are overwhelmed and rushed and for the most part, fairly new. Although most nurses are nice, it does seem they are only programmed to give medication at a scheduled time and anything else is beyond their scope of reasoning.Ren Yeager

My hubby had surgery for skin cancer here .The whole experience was a nightmare for him and myself. We were told that his surgery would take aprox. 3 to 4 hrs by 3 people .Well they lie, lie ,lie. Bring a lunch folks bring a tent , charge your lap top, bring your phone charger ! Don"t check out of your hotel.Arrived at 6 :am as instructed.He didn't get out of surgery until 7:pm that night Then an hr.in recovery .I told them that we got dropped off this morning and was assured that he would be sent home w/ enough pain meds .until we were able to get his scripts filled the next day. We had no immediate access to our car.The staff in the recovery room were extremely rude.Seemed as if they were rushing him out .He woke up in extreme pain and disoriented I expressed concern about taking him out in the state that he was in and was told he's all yours now .I was handed scripts.I asked for the few pain meds that I was promised to get us by until morning ( I can't drive at night) and then was asked who ever told me that was wrong ( a R.N that said she noted that on his chart ) and that the hospital pharmacy just closed there in the hospital.I had to wait for my hubby for 14 hrs .Had I known that I would have stayed at the hotel in comfort until he get out of surgery.I was able to keep my room at la Quinta ( great people there ). They were kind enough to retrieve us from the hospital and out of kindness the driver also drove thru Walgreens and waited for us to get my scripts filled.paul lamber

I wanted to briefly share my thoughts about UAMS Cancer Institute to make others aware of what they may experience if they choose to be treated at this facility. The majority of non-professional staff members there are kind and seem to genuinely care. However, the doctors in charge have behaved in an unprofessional and negligent manner. It does not seem appropriate for me to mention any names or share specific details, but I can state that my wife would not have started treatment at UAMS if she knew in advance what this place was like. The commercials on television paint a picture of UAMS Cancer Institute being a first-class, patient-centered facility. Our experience has been one of disappointment and frustration from repeated negligence by the professional staff here. My wife has been so kind and patient, hoping things would improve, but the same problems continue to occur. I just thought others should know…Tom Scott

Southern Arkansas University is truly a lovely place. I am going into my senior year this August and am do excited to see what it has in store for me. Freshman year was a little hard, but SAU has several activities for you to get to know people and make friends (a few of them are mandatory). I'm in the Honors College which has allowed me to experience several interesting field trips and allowed me to travel abroad to France for 1 week. Deana Taylor is wonderful. Take a moment to introduce yourself to her because she will help you throughout your time at SAU. It's a growing community, but everybody seems to be close here (and friendly). The cafeteria recently expanded and has gotten much better food. The older dorms are okay, but I definitely suggest the newer dorms, University Hall, Honors North (not South), or The Village. I'm going for my BBA in Marketing and love it so far. The professors are helpful and the courses (at least the marketing courses) are quite interesting! If you feel like giving up after your first year just know this: after my freshman year I was suicidal. I hated life and didn't want to continue on. I moved home for the summer and got healthier. I was around family and good friends and it completely reshaped my life. I am now graduating in one year, have a marketing internship this summer, am in a healthy and loving relationship, and cannot wait to see where life takes me. College can be hard at first, no matter where you are. Make a friend, reach out to others, call your family, and get out there. Get involved. You've got this, and SAU is a great place to start your adult journey.Lily M

I graduated from SAU in 2000. My education was a great preparation for career success. My daughter is now attending SAU as an Honor student. SAU is expanding and offering many diverse options. I'm proud to be a Mulerider & continuing the tradition. I encourage potential students to tour the campus. We are so pleased SAU now waives out of state tuition for Claiborne Parish as well as other bordering counties and parishes. Based on generous academic scholarships, SAU costs less than an in state school with Honors TOPS and additional academic scholarships. The cost difference was not the only reason we chose SAU but certainly a contributing factor. This school offers the hands on attention of a private school with the value of a state school. A good college that is being newly renovated and updated for more appeal. HOWEVER, it is a pain in the rear end to get everything straightened out for school, and the people who are supposed to be helping you, end up sending you from department to department saying you need this information and that information. They aren't all very nice people. It reminds me of the Department of Human Services. Rude people, who hinder instead of help you. I had a very pleasant experience at UCA, the college itself was awesome and the campus was also nice. The administration and the other students there were all really kind. But the main reason why I enjoyed this college so much is the air dryers in the student center bathrooms, the air pressure was amazing, instantly dries your hands. My daughter will graduate from Hendrix College in a few weeks. I must say it has been an amazing 4 years for our family. If you don't insist on visiting Hendrix before you choose a college, you may never know what a great college experience can be! We visited 6 small, private, liberal arts colleges within 600 miles of Austin, Texas (our home), and Hendrix was the obvious choice to each of us. We've never regretted it for a moment. The campus is so beautiful and comfortable, Conway is a very nice little town, but it's the people that make Hendrix truly special. My daughter Sai left home in Bangkok, Thailand almost two years ago to attend this small CTCL college. She, and we love this place. Education is top grade, the faculty and staff friendly and supportive. The campus is beautiful and weather is mild. While the Conway community is small, its people have a big heart. Great education but TERRIBLE customer service. Class sizes are small allowing more one-on-one with teachers. Educators, for the most part, are personally invested in your success and will meet with you outside of class and help in any way. The business college is now offering a combined masters program which allows you to work on your bachelors and masters at the same time. HUGE PLUS. The Information Systems department in the COBA has a wealth of knowledge and the teachers are high quality. 10/10 recommend a business degree from Harding. Parking is absolutely atrocious. Staff and upper leadership ignore complaints from students and faculty, completely disregarding suggestions that would improve the organization. Some rules are archaic in nature. I.e. curfews, no tobacco or alcohol regardless of legal age, etc. Chapel has gone downhill the last couple of years. No longer a quality devotion/worship session. The systems put in place to get an excuse from chapel are completely redundant and over the top inconvenient.Ethan Bond

I was a student, graduating and meeting my spouse there years ago and now I work there full time. I had not intended on coming back to work at Harding but plans higher than mine were made. Everyday a new piece of information was needed or a paper that was already send in was lost. Over 3 times I had to pay to refax papers that were already send it. Also very non helpful they will sigh in your ear and don’t give you any helpful info just basic information to get you off the phone. I’m a first generation college student who did everything on his own and because of these sad miserable workers in this office I want start college until January. Nothing is as it seems and it was not always glorious, but the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff gave me more than simply a degree. It gave me the foundation I will use the rest of my life to bless my family and anyone around me with knowledge, love and moral respect. This school has the WORSE financial aid department in my opinion that I have ever experienced, they awarded me someone else's scholarship, did not notify me until a month later, and then hassled me about reimbursement (plus informed me that I would not be able to start the next school year until it was paid). Terrible place and management from my experience as a parent. My 17 year old son recently got enrolled in Henderson, my wife went with him to fill out documentation and signed papers live with them notarizing saying that our son will stay home not in dorm because we don't want him to. Some how he still managed to get a dorm without our knowledge, permission or consent. Appearently after he made arrangements he needed a excuse so he argued with his mother one evening and next day he would not return home after being done from class. So basically he ran away from home and Univerty is harboring a run away child. Been contacting them for last 2 days but only getting run around and they are unable to tell me how he managed to get a dorm without our consent or permission when we even signed a paper saying he could not? And even if he filled out forms and some how forged them, why they didn't verify by contacting either one of the parents? Finally after last night I was told they will send my son home today telling him he could not stay but he still there for 2nd day/night a row. No one in housing department answering calls nor the unviversity police doing anything, I asked them to escort him they took number to call me but never did. When I called back they said they working on it but when I asked if they even approached him, officer responded NO. I'm extremely disappointed and shocked that how easily troubled teenage kids can get dorms here at this facility without parent's knowledge or consent and if you contact them they will act like they don't have a damn clue nor would help and they will continue harboring your run away child providing safe haven. Since they are not being helpful and failed to do their due diligence making sure parents are okay with child staying in college dorm, I am looking at my options to take legal action against them.Adnan Umer

If you were thinking about attending this university, don't. There are far better universities that make genuine efforts to do right by their students. Henderson is not one of them. They don't care about their students' safety or academic success, and you can bet that most of their promises are lies. Every elevator on campus has expired certificates, and if they are renewed, they don't have the certificates in them (and they should have them displayed). They are having students pay almost 1000 dollars more this semester (Fall 2022) for worse quality courses and services. None of the departments talk to each other, so students end up having to do their jobs for them. I'm not surprised that Henderson has 4 stars right now though because they have been deleting any negative comments or feedback calling out their negligence and failures on social media and other outlets. They are censoring the students that pay them money they don't deserve. The last time I checked their rating it was 3.6 stars before program cuts, and it definitely should not be going up right now considering how many people, students and faculty, they are scamming. If you look up news about Henderson, you can't find anything because they don't want anyone to know about their mistreatment and corruption. I recommend looking at The Oracle, Henderson's former student-led news source, if you want to find anything.rbecc

Curriculum is above average for a state college in my opinion however the university has its ups and downs like any place would. For females I definitely recommend you look at all of your options before going here to make sure you’re making the right decision. My girlfriend at the time (currently wife) was harassed, without reason, multiple times from guys trying excessively “flirting” so much so that it got slightly physical and the police were called and two guys were kicked off of campus and kicked out of the university as a whole. Just keep that in mind if it’s your daughter, girlfriend, wife, or even yourself. Just make sure your prepared mentally to avoid those situations as best you can and are alert at all times especially during the evening and night times. But hopefully nothing like that will happen to any of you. Hopefully this review helped some of you. I’m sure the campus is wondering for a lot of people. We’ve just had our issues. But don’t let me scare you from going where you or someone you know wants to peruse their passion with education.Lone

Good luck trying to get information over the phone. Agree with the earlier comment and I've been going here for over 2 years part-time. You will HAVE to go to the school to get any information, ever. You can call every single person on the faculty list for Admissions and Records and will get voicemail 100% of the time on any given day. You will be told wrong information from some advisors so I've been really careful to get second opinions. I was told I needed X amount of credits to graduate by one advisor only to find out that in my last semester I actually needed 7 classes. Had to take all 7 in one semester if I wanted to graduate as planned. I did it but it was hell. Certain professors are not to blame for the lack of admin support. I've had some great professors and good classes but the infrastructure is severely lacking and unfortunately, that is the first impression many get of college. If you are not prepared to take on every little issue by yourself, pick another school.Chelsea Thompson

i only gave 3 for some reasons, first, make sure you do keep communicating staffs here since no one told me about my college transcript ( had to order another one from different college) 2nd, there were no communication at all to let me know whats going on when i found out that there were some conflict according to my email they sent. The process to get in may be a hassle but if you do not give up and fight to get things done then it will be worth it. Make sure your college transcript says your last enrollment if transferred like me. If you are taking classes at another college then there will be conflict here. Just heads upKayla Kolton

Do your basics here. Quick, cheap, and easy. Then transfer over to your 4 year college which will more than likely be UALR. NEVER let your guidance counselor "guide" you. In other words, do NOT allow them to make your schedule without double checking it. 99% of the time you will be put in classes that you don't even need which means it will take you longer to graduate. Don't be a dummy. Get a print out of the classes that you need for your degree and just start putting them on your schedule. Don't waste electives by taking some class you don't need. Take a class that counts towards your degree as an elective.Patryk

I was originally a student at a private school in Texas. One of the best in the world. So when we had to move here for a family illness, I was highly guarded about what I would find in quality at a public school…especially in Arkansas. Although I had three advisors screw up my plan three times in a row, I finally got the assistant dean as my advisor. She was wonderful and I am a graduate of the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences. I have to say I was highly impressed at the level of education and support that I received at UALR. Additional to a quality education, I was impressed with administration and the people's willingness to help me when I needed it and to call me back when they said they would. Teachers are mostly helpful. I was an online student so availability in a teacher is key. Sure there was one or two that weren't the best at it but I fortunately am tech enough to get myself through what I needed. I did not witness and racism, homophobia or bigotry on campus between students and teachers. However it seems to me that a lot of angry people in the reviews feel differently. I personally did not witness it. Additionally, my wife is an adjunct professor here and I know for a fact she cares immensely and passionately about ALL of her students and a lot of students are looking for excuses to not do the work but to get credit for nothing. It's not a food line, it's college. You want a good grade? You have to do the work and you have to do it well. You are adults. Act like it. A lot of people I met were just adult high schoolers in their maturity level. THAT is not UALR's fault.Sid

If you have the patience to deal with lack of communication and knowledge of the most basic things like me than apply if you do not avoid this school like the Black Plague! Seriously! I am in process applying for the nursing program transferring from out of state University. Mr. Jon Vickers never answer the phone or give you a call back, I literally call this man 10 times in the past two weeks and no answer or phone call back! He is suppose to be head of nursing department but he never answer any calls. Front desk people could never answer the most basic questions like “ when are the nursing application going to be available” they always transfer me and no one every seems to be available. Only good experience I had is talking to Belinda White. This school needs a lot of work with communication and keep their staff up to date on basic information.Elexus T

The university has gone straight up in the past 10 years. They have established one of the top 3(possibly the very top) engineering and have partnered with a great medical school(UAMS). The money they have been given helped to secure talented professors and great staff. Past that though, they have started to recruit high end students and provide scholarship money for all. For example, I received a full ride plus some spending money as a result of my "high performance" (read as standardized test scores). Be aware that, like most other state colleges, most awards are based off of test scores and having above a 3.5 in high school. Overall, the school has a bit of a bad rap around Arkansas because of what it was over 50 years ago, but it has become a competitor for the best in state college and is definitely still headed up.Red Rabbit

It's a wonderful place. The population isn't the largest (the college is located in a dying, povertous town & is probably half of the town's revenue) but everyone's nice, experienced and willing to let you drink as much coffee as you like or do their best to help you with subjects you struggle in. The college even have a bus to transport sudents whom have limited or no transportation of their own! About COVID19: the college is rated as the second safest in the state of Arkansas, despite in-person learning being an option for courses. There are dedicated contact-tracing staff, plentiful sanitation supplies, and you can always go fully online if you like. Context: I'm attending courses for an I.T/Cybersecurity degree. Cindy Grove is a wonderful teacher, as is Arthur Gentry, Kayla Holland, the list goes on! Doctor King, Doctor Johnson, and basically all of the people found within the administration building are wonderful to talk to and be around. I haven't met anyone I dislike and yet I have been here for a fair while. I've even attended as a work-study until my physical and mental disabilities nuked my ability to do so, and until that day I had a great time.Orrion

Thankfully I've made it! However, if you're a person of color going for the nursing program at PCC/UA whether it's LPN or RN and dean hudson is still there good luck and GOD bless!J S
