20 Best Psychology Grad Programs In Indianapolis, IN (2022 Updated)

Please do not attend this school for it's transition to teaching graduate program. The professors did not prepare for their classes and provided low quality education to the point that I could not justify continuing with this program after paying in over $4,000. When attempting to get them to appeal the final $800 for the semester I left the program they simply refused to give any leeway or acknowledge and error on their part and sent me collections with an additional $350 fee. With no recourse beyond their own appeals process that unsurprisingly found no problem on their end, all I can do is complain on their review boards. On the plus side, the do have a beautiful campus and I can not in anyway speak to the quality of their undergraduate program.Daniel Gore

While well established as a great Franciscan university, Marian remains up-and-coming in terms of their MAT program for teachers. I had a wonderful experience in terms of the contacts made and networks formed while attending. However, much remains to be done to increase the rigor and requirements for that particular degree. Still, Marian University will soon open the second medical school in the State of Indiana. They are also adding a seemingly much finer tuned doctoral education leadership program.Tim Lankford

Here visiting for a campus tour with my daughter. So far what we have seen is amazing. Marian University is a great place. The buildings are contemporary except for a few historical sites that were preserved. Other than that, it appears to be a great place. The people were friendly as we visited as well. Definitely live on campus if you are looking for the full college experience. I've lived here for 3 years as an undergraduate and the facilities are very nice and the people very helpful. It's easy to find a job through the university and the research opportunities in science blow many other universities out of the water. Scholarships are also abundant if you know where to look and ask around. Professors range from fantastic to poor like at any university. I believe there are over 300 organizations and clubs to get involved in and always neat things like movies playing, dances, carnivals, etc, you just have to know to look for them. The campus is beautiful, especially in the spring and summer when the fountain is going and everyone is lounging outside. IUPUI is what you make of it, and getting involved is the best way to experience it.Amber Goad

As a 36-year old student who is employed full time and has a growing family to support going back to school to get a degree, I am mostly pleased with the experience of the last full school year. I've had a couple of lousy instructors, but for the most part I really enjoy the instructors I've had. I'm learning a lot of important information that will help me as an employee. Great School to go to especially since i have been going there for two years. i tried Iupui, Indiana university, butler, and Purdue. None of those schools would let me into there university because I didn't have enough credits when I had prior college credit. Ivy Tech had me take a assessment test just to get into the college, and I took the test but I never hear anything back after I completed my process. Furthermore, I had college credit to go to the college that was transferable but they said their course number didn't match up. I was highly upset on top of them being a state funded college with organized people. After I didn't get into the college I tried Martin University because of it being like an HBCU and they would help me achieve my goal of obtaining my degree. Once I completed my enrollment I felt at home, I felt like i was apart of a family,and I felt accomplish. Today I went to Martin University to register for classes for the Spring 2015 semester. Everyone was very disorganized and unaware of what all I needed to do to set my classes. Everything is done by paper and my file was lost because the lady said that "too many hands" had got a hold of it. When I went to financial aid the lady was very rude and trying to rush me through the process. When I asked her the amount of money that I would need to pay for school after using financial aid she responded "well you have loan money so there is no need to worry." But that was not the question I asked. I had my 7 month old daughter with me who got a fussy, the lady asked "what is wrong with her? Does she have a pacifier?" After having been there three hours and still not registered for classes I decided that this school was not for me. I need something that is more organized and able to keep up with my file. Martin University needs to get advanced in technology area and hire individuals whom can understand basic questions.Jenna Phillips

I was visiting Indianapolis when i stumbled upon Martin University's campus and, within sight of it, a compounding pharmacy that interested me. I went on campus looking for the administrative building. A security officer stopped me just inside the doors of the glazed sphere which happens to have been exactly the place i was seeking. The officer politely asked my name and intent. When i answered she accompanied me, showing me the offices and classrooms most relevant to my needs. I have since been back to Martin several times. I am not an alumnus of the school, but I have always felt like one here. In 2016 Martin helped to create an education zone surrounding the campus. The purpose of the education zone is to encourage and uplift the neighborhood. However, Martin University serves people from all over, as i found out on my first visit. — tgta greenhnwd

First off, the campus is gorgeous. The attention paid to student needs is excellent as are the facilities. The professors I have met have been most impressive as have those working in athletics. Brad Stevens, the basketball coach, exemplifies the true spirit of the campus. He is a local product whose work ethic, values, and foresight reflect the "Butler way." If you are looking for a mid sized university which cares about the total development of its students Butler is the place.Ron Adams

As an employee of this site for two years who interacts daily with our students, I love coming to work here every day. It’s separate from Marian University’s main campus and is in a building right by the Pyramids. Last year, we moved up a floor to the fourth floor into a freshly renovated space and it has been great to see our students learn here. It has two classrooms, two simulation labs, enhanced debriefing rooms, two exam rooms, a dedicated student break room, and a locker area. The new labs have state-of-the-art clinical equipment, hospital beds, and medical manikins — a great, safe, and realistic environment for students to practice interacting with live patients in the real world and gain confidence heading into clinicals. Overall, we couldn’t ask for a better place for our students to come for labs, take exams, and connect with their fellow nursing students and instructors.Trinity Firth

I got accepted to UINDY after careful consideration about the program I wanted to attend. I chose UIndy over 3 other schools I was accepted to. They were not helpful at all after admission about what I needed to do next. The orientation was a joke and not helpful, they basically only addressed the students that would be receiving parental help with the finances and didn't answer any questions about the students like myself who would be doing it on their own, since my parents basically paid for my first degree. I also am supposed to receive half off my tuition due to my father being a disabled veteran. The Advisor I spoke with denied that despite the paperwork I sent her. A few weeks later I received my bill. They want 12k in a MONTH or else I would be dropped from classes. I reached out for more financial aid help and never got any response. Calls were not returned and emails were left ignored. This school was supposed to help me follow my dreams, and instead they crushed them. They killed all aspiration I had to further my education. It is now too late for me to attend any other college this fall and I must wait until next fall now, assuming I will even gain the perseverance back. If you are looking for a good college, I would stray from UIndy. I was left alone in the dark and put behind all the students who's mommy and daddy's will be paying the cost. I will set out to find a college with kind staff, good communication skills and one that will accept my fathers benefits. Do yourselves a favor and do the same.Elizabeth Galante

I have enjoyed my 2 years here and now i am plaining to move to CA. Professors always say that we are willing to help you if you come to our offices, but when I go to them they do not answer my question from the different aspects. If you do not ask multiple questions, they will not explain everything. Even in class, they try to hide some information from you so that you have to read the whole book to not miss any point. NOT ONE OR TWO PROFESSORS HAVE DONE THAT ( ESPECIALLY CHEMISTRY MAJOR). My advice, be away of this. There are a lot of activities that you can meet different people and learn more about different cultures. Plus, alcohol is prohibited in campus. ** I do not drink at all** Good LuckLolo Lole

I transferred here after attending Indiana University my first year of college. I felt the college is a great option for students who want more attention and a smaller class size. I always really enjoyed my time at UIndy because of their great and supportive athletic department. The school being smaller gave me more opportunities to fulfill my dreams and do what I wanted to do in college. Like everything, it is not for everyone. I believe it is a great school though and should be considered by all. It ended up being a perfect fit for me.The Landys

Earned my Associates degree from Ivy Tech in 2020. They have a wide range of class choices that are all affordable. I enrolled in the Ivy Tech/IUPUI Passport Program to complete my Bachelors at IUPUI (just graduated with my BA a couple weeks ago!) and all my Ivy Tech credits transferred over without any problems. Leslie Busch was my advisor and she worked really hard to make sure every class I took would transfer successfully in the Passport program, and helped me to recover my GPA from a 0.24 (when I failed out years ago) to a 3.5 when I graduated with honors – to do this, she made sure I was retaking the exact classes I'd initially failed so that I could make up the credits. I met up with her once or twice a semester to make sure that I was on track for my goals, and she always had time to speak with me and answer every question I had. The professors are great; they're wise and very kind, and I was well-prepared for my transfer to IUPUI. Excellent education at a fraction of the cost, which was really nice since I had to pay out-of-pocket. I would not have been able to get a college degree were it not for Ivy Tech (and now I have 2), so I cannot recommend them enough. The professors, staff, and students are all wonderful, and I have many fond memories of my time here as a student.Evangelyn Richter

I attended this school for a certificate I was interested in but getting through the courses with some unprofessional instructor who never knew answers to your questions was a complete disappointment, frustrating and stressful school. This was the most unorganized college I’ve ever attended. No one is on the same page at this university. I received my undergrad and master degree from IUPUI and the professors and staff there was nothing like IVY Tech. IUPUI was structured and organized and they wanted their students to be successful in completing their program. I never attended a college that had no guidance for there students to ensure they are successful in their academic year. Everything just seem to be so unorganized and discombobulated at IVY Tech, I would not recommend this college to anyone. You get what you pay for, if you pay cheap tuition you will receive poor education, I see why this college has a low graduation rate. It’s not worth the headache.Marie B.

I have had several professors who had made an positive impact on my life. So far, every Psych professor and my communications professor were amazing. However, every class I have taken for English were TERRIBLE. One professor (Instructor Smith) will look for every reason possible to take from your grade. Another professor (Instructor King) does not communicate and I didn’t receive grades until the second to last week. I also have NO CLUE who my advisor is because nobody is returning my emails. In 1978 my Mother was transported to IU med from Kokamo . She was in a coma for 3 or 4 months. I recieved a call from Moms Doctor he wanted to do surgery on Mom. She had 3 aneurysms putting pressure on brain. They did surgery my Mom was 51. She lived to 72. Thank u allVicki Satterfield

I would not recommend this for your Group Instructor certificate. I have taken the test twice and failed. I bought both reading materials and have read word for word each book , hi-lighted, went back through both books and took notes, re-read the books, and my notes. There are questions on the test that are NOT in either of these books. Their are slim to no webinars on this not to mention the cost of them. They don't even have the PrepU option for this cert. I also reached out to them via email asking about a couple things after the first test and NO ONE responded (they don't care, they just want your money). seeing as in one of their books they state peoples learning styles and only 15% of people learn by reading and testing, therefore they are pretty much setting up everyone to fail. (Again Just a money thing to them) I have been very happy with Affa and would highly recommend you do any and all certs through them. I will be letting anyone and everyone in my line of business how this place is ran and how they neglect their customers when trying to succeed. Their communication and service doesn’t exist. To find ways to communicate and be communicated with are a struggle. It is clearly used as a piggy bank to find ways to increase fees and trick members into paying more than necessary while offering nothing in return. Simply a piece of “paper” with no support or education. I would not recommend this credential to anyone. There are cheaper and easier ones to acquire that are still universally accepted. Why pay more and have more headache for nothing in return? People who are leaving bad reviews probably have two issues. 1. They studied too much and over thought the test they took. 2. They don’t know how to APPLY the things you learn to real life situations. It’s not a memorization test, it’s a competency test. If you’re not competent in all areas of your cert, regardless of the test you take, you’re going to have a hard time passing. Also, you get results instantly on the computer. So saying that it takes forever to get your results is a lie. I passed the CPT and received my hard copy certification in the mail within two weeks.Joe Chamberlain

Dr Gallagher is an excellent doctor. He has helped me through major issues. He listens with the up most patience and interest. He is not one of these doctors who wants to see you upteen times to pad his pocket. He likes to get to the bottom of things and help you resolve it with you. In usually 5 sessions. If you need more sessions of course he will be happy to see you until you have found success with your situation. I cant say enough.about this doctor. Dr. Gallagher’s goal isnt to necessary keep you as a patient and collect a copay from you forever and ever. He wants to get you back to the best you can be as quickly as possible. He’s not in it for the money but for your well being. Yes his approach is more “holistic” but he isn’t pushy, and most of the suggestions he makes are very affordable (and they don’t sponsor him, etc). He has a very organized approach to how he does things. In just a few months I saw a great improvement to my overall well being.J S

I am so thankful for the information and therapy I received from Dr. Gallagher. I was taking Benzodiazepines for anxiety and insomnia. Very disappointed in Graduation ceremony for the school of ed. My daughter worked hard for 4 years to earn highest distinction 3.9 plus, and they failed to put it in either program, even though she questioned it before hand. Things like this should be checked over and over to ensure accuracy! This was the last straw, after an already difficult year. This program needs work!Tina Murphy

I am posting after many years that have passed since Dr. Sharp tested and evaluated our teenage son who had Dyslexia along with other learning issues. We called to make an appointment for a person in my household — Was told no doctors were taking patients (online nearly all their doctors are listed — on their own website — as taking new patients). When we asked if there were any other resources they said no. Also, a year wait to see a doctor. No wonder people avoid looking for mental healthcare assistance.
