NCC will assist you in overcoming your obstacles to the point where you feel smart, confident, and accomplished. This college is my top choice because it is affordable, not overcrowded, has a super clean and safe building, and has no historically known hate crime in the area, which is an A+ in today's environment. There is plenty of parking, as well as the best tutoring center, which is a lifeline for students who want to improve their grades or need assistance with the curriculum. NCC carry the highest standard. They have the best tutoring service and professors who are committed to assisting students. All you have to do if you need help navigating any area at NCC is ask. It's a good starting school but extremely disorganized with idiots for employees. Dr Apple or apfel is a complete and total moron. She is so ungodly useless. She is extremely disorganized no wonder all of the students hate her. She wouldn't shake our hands because she said that's how germs are spread. Get rid of this delusional troll! She made an appointment for 12 and then when we got there said it was for 4pm. Um hello!? This school is so DISORGANIZED. If you're willing to put up with complete chaos for two years then go here. Either believe the previous reviews of 'smelling like poverty and cigarettes', or understand that community college is the last place to find a living, breathing example of the American Dream. On top of that, NCC is the most well-funded community college, the most prestigious, and has the highest share of incredible professors than any other community college in the region. But it won't motivate you to succeed. You have to do that yourself. And if you do not find that drive within yourself in time, do not blame the college for your shortcomings. I recently was enrolled in the graduate cohort for reading and writing. I have been teaching for almost 10 years and found most of the classes insulting. I felt I knew more than the cohort professors and learned very little new. Many of the text books were from early 2000. Considering the vast changes in LA recently, I felt many classes provided information that was not up to curent reading philosphies and/or research. The rubrics were so convoluted that the professors couldn't figure them out or they did not pertain to the topic. Many classes were spent going back and forth over the rubrics only to have them change again. Knowing what I do now, I would not waste the money, but would have done an on-line course for 1/3 the price.K Palmer

I went to WCSU in The Woodstock 60's. It was so small then, a blip on the radar with only a few buildings for classes, but something wonderful happened. I was given special attention and sent to Yale University to audition for it's School of Drama and I was accepted. I was coached by a director, an English prof. and a Theater Arts instructor who taught English before there was a Theater Arts program at WCSU. Thanks to them, our tiny group of drama hopefuls had the opportunity to test run a real Off Broadway Play before it was cast. Our director was a friend of the Playwright. I had the lead in that production and thanks to that I was chosen to audition for Yale, and thoroughly coached by the team. Because of them I made it. I did not go to Yale due to personal issues but the point is that there were great people willing to go beyond the scope of their requirements and guide someone to the place where they could succeed. WCSU has grown into a fine institution because it has great roots. Go visit and see what I mean.Judith A Rowland

This University is like a breath of fresh air among the other CSU's, I would highly recommend, from the staff to the OpenClose program which sorts all the classes so neatly and nicely, to the overall atmosphere of the town itself (*thats also because many of the other state colleges/universities are put in very crime filled neighborhoods) WCSU makes its very easy as well to transfer taking ALL transfer credits from the other universities, as well as if your communication major like myself, they offer many classes over the summer to help you catch up or even to learn more. Also i'd like to put out that right now is like the golden age of the communication dept at WCSU literally every professor is awesome in one way or another, even the adjuncts are amazing and that's saying something (Petkanas, Eckstein, Lever, Murtha, Brower, Wiss, Tozzoli, Barone, Woodward just to name a few)Justin Quinn

Got my MBA here. The faculty is quite smart and is genuinely interested in your success. Specifically, the marketing, supply chain, and finance professors are top notch. If you get the opportunity to study abroad for Taiwan, which is available as an undergrad as well, absolutely do it. Amazing people to network with and friends that came out of class, overall very rewarding experience. The college has had notable difficulty with their health and safety as of the writing of this that took 1 star away from my rating. I spent a year and change at the school, but I'd go again if I found the need to go back to school.Eric

I have to admit, after being accepted to the Master's program early in 2014 I was nervous attending graduate school. I was unsure of what type of situations I would encounter, and what type of curriculum I would face. After the first day of orientation, I knew that the University of Bridgeport was the best choice for me. The staff and professors in my department are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The classes I have taken have not only improved educational leadership qualities, but have also helped improve my mathematical prowess. Although the classes may seem difficult at time, my professors demonstrated an excellent balance in challenging students while holding their interest. I have created many long lasting friendships as well with the students in my program. In concurrence with our education progress, we find ourselves continuously engaging in a sort of fellowship that I have not experienced elsewhere. In essence, the phrase "work hard, play harder" seems fitting. We have fun in class, and we get to work when we need to. I find that my professors are equally as entertained as my fellow students, helping to aid in the maintenance of the positive climate in the classrooms. If anyone reading this is nervous or unsure of their decision to attend the University of Bridgeport, as someone who previously felt the same way I offer the following advice: don't be. I am currently a freshman at UB almost finishing my first semester, I am majoring in the health sciences and hopefully 4 years from now I will be doing my masters in Chiropractic. I came to America all the way from Indonesia, I studied at an international school so I have met people from many different countries and cultures, UB made me feel like I never left that sense of living in an international environment because of all the diverse cultures that you find here. Professors, Students and Staff are very open and very supportive if you need any help and the fact that UB is a very small school makes it a better sense of community among students. Classes are good and challenging, resources are provided if in the need of help just like tutoring or counseling. I had the chance to make many close friends in just a few months from different backgrounds, friends that have become a second family to me. I can only speak for my major, but I love my program. Most of my classes are engaging, and my teachers are always available to talk and answer questions outside of class which is much appreciated. The thing that I love most about UB is the diversity. Especially studying in a internationally focused major, there's a huge difference in talking about events throughout the world, and actually hearing a first person perspective from someone who is from that country. This place is a perfect example of “you get what you pay for”. I attended September 2009 – May 2018 (with a 3 year gap from 2012-2015). The hospitality teachers and department head were wonderful, and a lot of my general Ed teachers were amazing too and I have nothing but great things to say about the teachers. However, the registrar office and academic advisors were a nightmare to deal with. No one ever smiles, my message NEVER got relayed to the right person, and it was such a headache to deal with offices equivalent to dealing with the DMV. They also claimed that when you graduate you can transfer your credits to a state college which is false. Some of the credits transferred, but classes like Math don’t transfer and I have to take a placement test to get into the same exact math class I took at Gateway and passed the class with an A. The bookstore staff was the most incapable, rude, useless group of people. Graduation was a completely unorganized joke – they told graduates to arrive 2 hours early to stand in a parking lot with no instruction and 1 porta potty for about 300 people. They also only announce 1 of your degrees – so if you have 3 degrees they won’t even take the extra 5 seconds to announce all 3 (I thought graduation was supposed to recognize your achievements?) I would have never wasted my time going to graduation if I knew how pathetic it would be. Parking on campus in New Haven was crazy and the lot constantly overflows into the Temple Street lot so you get to walk in stairways that smell like urine with bums roaming the lot and drunk people stumbling to their car after your class at 9:30 at night with no security guards to get to your car. Literally no security whatsoever like your completely on your own in a public lot in the heart of New Haven. Like most schools, they don’t allow weapons inside the building so you don’t even have a way to defend yourself if you get approached in the lot which will happen at some point. There were also hospitality classes that I had to buy things out of pocket and was promised reimbursement that never happened.Nina Tiso

I loved working with the children in the Early Learning Center, but the adults in the classroom didn't really treat me that well. They didn't really accommodating me that well when it came to tasks such as setting the table for breakfast,lunch, and snack. A coworker got nasty because I wasnt moving fast enough for her. I'm visually impaired and I have to take my time because of my vision. I had to complain about this coworker 2 times. Another thing that didnt make sense was I had to walk to the other side of campus to eat lunch for my 30 minute break. The teacher of the classroom would get mad at me for being late because I am a slow eater and I cant move fast again because of my bad vision. student teachers aren't allowed to eat in the teachers lounge. I shouldn't have had to complain to my boss about eating in the teacher lounge. This place needs to be more accommodating to student teachers with disabilities and staff needs to be more compassionate. I am very glad that I don't work at this place anymore! Beautiful atmosphere. I was in their old building on Long wharf years ago, and seeing how they've grown and progressed into what I consider a university now, is life changing for the people attending this college. For a community college, they offer so much for the students with assistance as well as their educational endeavors. I went here for my first two years of college. Here's what I've noticed. – The people here are great, for the most part. – UNH emphasizes on a welcoming environment – There's always new development like the Bergami center which is a very nice looking building. – I lived in Westside and Winchester halls. Both are good! – I was in Engineering which I struggled in, but when I changed my major to accounting I had no struggle. – I just really wish UNH was more helpful with finance and mental health. – They were WAY too strict with Covid. Yes, I understand the dangers, but we're adults you have to remember. They threatened to suspend if you violate rules, even accidentally. They also quarantined my entire hall in 2020 just because one student got covid. I really didn't believe they had to be that harsh. – They were also TERRIBLE with communication when moving in for my 2nd year (because of covid), and I had to spend a month trying to figure out when to move in. – The Accessibility resources center is a good place, but once they forbid me from using a calculator on a chemistry exam in March of 2020. Everybody but the ARC staff thought that was terrible. – Their math department was terrible. The professors meant well, but it was not taught in an interesting way. – On a positive note, they are fantastic at safety. In January of 2021 I got cyberbullied by someone in the school who made threats including a death threat. The ResLife dept. handled it very well and the police took it very seriously and found the guy doing it, someone who I thought was a friend. He was suspended. Overall, UNH is not perfect, but their heart is in the right place. I didn't leave for any of these reasons listed, that's another story entirely. I attended UNH between spring 2019 and January 2021 (two years) as a transfer, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (Investigative Services Concentration). I am giving this school 3 stars because excluding a very good academic experience, there were too many low moments I experienced at UNH for me to give this review more stars. These low moments range from lack of opportunities for commuter students (which is what I was for 3/4 semesters), existing social circles that prevent prospective students from feeling any sense of belonging, the school's fostering and promotion of the word "LatinX", and other things. (Mainly because I am a Latino/Hispanic male originally from South America, and don't see how the word is applicable to the Central/South American community). The pandemic did affect the college experience in spring 2020, but my experience was already going downhill well before this. For these reasons, I feel as though this was an era of my life that never happened. Above all, I find it difficult to talk about this era and school in more positive (than negative) ways. I do recommend this school for my degree. My professors did an excellent job of teaching me. But it all does come at a cost because setbacks or letdowns (described above) can quickly affect a student's experience. Likewise, I am considering graduate school here because my professional job search opened my eyes to how graduate degrees are becoming the new standard for the U.S workforce. The beauty of this school is not just about the academic excellence and great facilities, but the diversity; it’s almost as if every nationality is represented here. Everyone is friendly from the students to the academic staffers, non-academic staffers, to the school security operatives. When I visited this school I observed wheelchair accessibility is greatly adhered to in this institution. I also noticed there’s a 24/7 Wells Fargo Bank ATM point on this campus. Consequently, you will always have access to cash. When you school here you also get to enjoy the magnificence of New Haven, West Haven and most of all New York City, since it’s just less than an hour ride with your car or via the Metro-North Train. Although my professors have been awesome, the university as a whole is horribly disorganized and mismanaged. The various staff of different departments are uniformly rude and uninformed. I've gotten wrong and/or misleading information on basic protocol literally EVERY SINGLE TIME I've spoken with someone (where do I submit work study requests? Can I still carry student insurance if I'm part-time?) Regarding the insurance, I was told "yes" by 2 different pople. HOWEVER, the answer to that is it's automatically cancelled when you register online for classes and it is received as part-time, so then you have to re-enroll as a new client at a higher rate. I found this out when I was trying to fill a prescription and after much investigation found out that my insurance had been cancelled. This is one of the MANY problems I've experienced with Southern administration. Equally as faulty, is the technology "services" that Southern uses. Windows 7 computers in the computer labs that take (no joke) 5-20 mins to log you on if there are more than 3 people in the room and remote printing that requires an installation on your laptop every time you want to use it. This is recommend since you'll otherwise sit for 20 mins for the lab computer to log on and then progress to opening and printing a file at the speed of dial-up. If you need to reach anyone (computing services, the bookstore) for questions, you'll be strained to find contact info outside of the (203)392-SCSU main office number. A detailed Google search rarely finds the phone numbers associated with specific offices. Most recently, for the past month as Southern has started the fall semester, their network has become so overloaded that the mail server periodically un-syncs all of my devices from their email (iPhone, Mac) so I don't get mail or know that an email I sent never actually sent, since it doesn't appear in ANY outbox or draft folder from any device. But since it happens off-and-on, as the SCSU network comes and goes as it pleases, I've not known about the missed emails until someone tells about a group email I missed. Lastly, and kinda most importantly, Southern's crap internet system occasionally doesn't recognize my password for Bannerweb, email, and Blackboard. Confoundingly, this doesn't occur on these applications all in one sitting. MANY TIMES I've sat and typed my password into Blackboard 5+ times and magically after repeated entries it suddenly works!!! Always had the same problem logging into "myscsu" and trying to get my email back online to the Southern server. Recommendation: If you're enrolling as a full-time undergraduate, I would HIGHLY recommend looking for a school elsewhere because you're DEFINITELY not getting your money's worth at this institution. Note: they also have no funding for student work study anymore, so don't count on that for extra money/tuition expenses. If you're taking classes part-time, for a job or continuing education, it will be a frustrating experience, but not a total waste of money. Botton line, I rated 2 stars because the professors and experiences with classmates have been awesome this past year, but the university as a whole is beyond frustrating.Jennifer Vollmer

im usually not the type of person to be negative and leave lengthy reviews but this is so necessary being that im so extremely disappointed with this school! I went for a tour in November of 2017 fell in love with the campus so I decided to apply as a transfer student in April of 2018! I sent in my fee waiver form April 20th I was told it takes 2-3weeks to hear back from the school, ok cool! here it is a MONTH later still no response, nor any communication to even let me know they've received my fee waiver form and that id be hearing from them soon or whatever the case may be just complete silence!!! not to mention the students that answer the phone are very rude and snappy! I withdrew my application and applied to Iona college! I applied with them got an acceptance letter, got my financial situation settled, paid my deposit all within a week, easy as 1,2,3 as it SHOULD be. Its an excellent school with a countless number of awards, i feel as though the process of applying to schools should be as easy and stress free as possible! Im extremely dissatisfied with my experience with this school it literally had everything I was looking for campus wise, but everything happens for a reason and being that Im going into the education field I've been told from numerous amounts of educators that im better off getting a job, with a degree from Iona under my belt. If I could give Southern zero stars I absolutely would. They are extremely unorganized, they don't care about you as a student AT ALL.. They cancelled a BIO class that I really needed a week before classes start. I emailed the head of the department asking for a solution and all I got was a too bad.. Now because of this I have to attend an extra semester and will not be graduating in time.. They offer classes at odd times which makes it hard for you to sign up for classes back to back, so far the professors I had don't care about you and are not understanding.. I saw Dr. Miner in June of 2019 after years of struggling with memory loss issues. It's taken a while to write this review because it's difficult for me to talk about. I had been referred to her through my Primary Care Physician. Right before I came in for my appointment I started a new job and thus had new insurance. As soon as Dr. Miner looked at me I felt unwelcomed (take that how you want). Once she found out I had different insurance than what she had on file, I felt even moreso unwelcomed. Her exact words were "If I knew you had this insurance I would've never seen you." Great words to hear during an already stressful appointment. Throughout the meeting she was cold and condescending. She read through a questionnaire. One of the questions was "Do you have trouble performing simple/mental math" to which I replied "yes". Her response was "Even though you're an accountant?". I completely shut down at this point. OBVIOUSLY, I am here to see you for a reason. You throwing my issues back into my face was completely unprofessional. At the end of the appointment she informed that she would be calling me back for a follow up. Unsurprisingly, I never heard from her again. I would not recommend seeing this doctor.Tanaya Hill

I went to Dr. Miner seeking an appointment for an evaluation/support with mental health issues I am struggling with. After a week of her not getting back to me regarding an appointment, she emailed me back rudely because I did not refer to her as Dr. in my email (which I did not mean in a disrespectful way at all!!! It was a thoughtless accident). She then proceeded to write "You may be looking for a social worker and perhaps not a doctor in neuroscience. There is a difference." I would say that sometimes tone can be misconstrued in email communication (I am giving her the grace that she did not extend to me) but it read as condescending and rude. Considering she works vulnerable populations, I am shocked at how she communicated that. There were other ways and it was unprofessional to not respond after a week because of a slip-up that was no malicious at all. Do not go to her.Yarelis Canales

I went to Housatonic right out of high school. From fall 2012 to winter 2015, I attended. The professors were professional and helpful. I could email or call or see them during their office hours if I needed to speak (I prefer in person). All the professors I had were passionate and knowledgeable. I transferred from the science program to the fine arts program. The school and my advisor were helpful in this transition. (Personally, every process/interaction was quick and easy) It was a great choice for me. I found the fine arts department to be a great group of people. Very dedicated and all successful in their fields. They didn't just become teachers, they had/have careers and are extremely talented. A little quirky, but what artist isn't? They really helped me improve my art and gave me advice on selling my art. Aside from the actual classes, my favorite part was the fantastic cafeteria. Honestly, I still go back! I still wander around downtown sometimes – that's where HCC is. Its not idyllic but its not as tough as the streets of Manhattan. There's a few oddballs but in 2 years of night courses I never felt unsafe. There's good restaurants and a few shops, concerts in the summer. I graduated and transferred to an art college, almost all of my credits transferred. I'm at a smaller college now, to get my BA, and I miss the convenience of being in a downtown area, near a park and print shop, and really miss the cafe !Christine Jones

This place is the worst. I had the worst experience with an advisor who tried to advise me in the lobby of the building. She basically asked me why I was there…. Then tried to advise me to go to every other department so she would have to do the bare minimum??? Security guards at every door, not kind ones either they definitely don't make it a warm and friendly campus. Seems like they're trying to protect themselves from more that just Covid. The financial aid office is a mess, and the enrollment process was ugh…. They basically didn't know how to add my Transcript credit aside from them sort of losing my Transcripts which the head guy admitted, and looked at me asking if I had any unofficial ones on me…?. The 3 stars are for their professors, they were lovely. The school is trash though go to NCC instead especially if you value professionalism and can do advisement.E J

Housatonic community college Is one of the Best Colleges I have attended. Academically, and socially, this college is well rounded. HCC has Great teachers, that honestly want to see their students succeed.i can only tell you this because this was me, a student who was extremely stressed about the material and course work. Enrolling into HCC from a pervious college, I did not have the funds for school. when I applied for a HCC scholarship I was more than fortunate To have Received grant.YES from School. As previous reviews state this University is actively promoting medical discrimination. I phoned the University and asked why they are choosing to this and I was greeted with remarks such as "Being vaccinated isn't a choice, it's a responsibility" There are so many Universities that don't actively promote this, I hope these guys come to their senses.Jeremy Brochu

Stunning campus. Reminds me of Oxford. Unfortunately student campus tours were cancelled after we made plans to visit, so we created our own itinerary. Lots of areas were closed off to outsiders, and I watched as students entered through large gates with key-in access from their phones. Only downside of Yale is New Haven itself. Outside of the Yale campus, New Haven can be a little sketchy in some areas and I would advise caution when roaming.Avalus

Full disclosure: I didn't go to school here, so I can't speak to the academics. I did work with an alumnus and he was a cool guy, so I'm guessing this university is a great place. The campus is beautiful in an old, classic way. It's so stunning, I'd say it merits a visit on its own. I had a great time scrolling through campus and snapping pics. The museum on campus was free admission and had some impressive displays. All in all, I liked Yale.Alex Kolkena

Got a book from there. Linsey Stirling's The Only Pirate At The Party. For free, using eBay. I really wanted to buy it (there was even a price) but it seems like there's no need anymore. The school looks cool. I've never heard of it before and I ain't gonna go there. I would need to cross a few seas and stuff like that on my way to school. Too expensive for me. Faculty is great and campus is nice but the few underlying higher up administrators only have respect for the student conduct code when it helps them. They ultimately will run the school like a business when it suits them but not when it would help a student. They blatantly will not follow their own policies if doing so would create a potential problem for them in the future.Jeremy Weber

I could write a book about what colleges do wrong. But I'll save you my whining and talk shop instead— this is a pretty decent and friendly place. There are many passionate, cool and effective teachers who love teaching and their students, even when the system doesn't love either of them. Online classes are a joke and suffer from "old people cannot use technology" disease, making it very easy for cheaters to prosper. They even heavily discourage you from even helping them fix the cheats, when they're absolutely instrumental for your success when the class is taught badly. I highly recommend you take history this way. Teachers for these classes usually rip tests off of specific websites, so… fair's fair, right? It's a shame, too. I love history. I just hate rout memorization. Please just remove history as a class and suggest history resources instead. This isn't suggestion to the college, but to the entire national board who decides what knowledge is or isn't cool. Please please please just make the system better and stop overcomplicating things. You're out of touch, please hand the keys to someone wiser if you can't do it yourself. Anyway, advisors are innocent to the perils of college sequencing. They will tell you to follow your dream, no matter the cost. Whatever you want to do, they will promise you the world. But this is a siren's song. They will not inform you of the logistics which may make you reasonably doubt your path. When I cited money as a reason I went to community college instead of a full four-year university, the admissions person chuckled and said that they got that a lot, in a really clueless way, as if she didn't know why. Yeah, expect that kind of attitude a lot. It's refreshing but dangerous. And what happens when you go to that four year university, end up in a little debt and don't have the life you thought you were building in college? Well… too bad, sucker. We thought you knew enough about what you were doing. Don't blame us for life's rough patches. Don't blame us for not teaching you your internal biases and character flaws and imperfections in how you see the world. Blame yourself. It's not our job to teach you that. Problem is, though, no one teaches that. Highschool sure doesn't. Where do people learn that? I had to teach myself, but not everyone can. Ironically, I'm not speaking from experience. It's just something I've seen happen to too many people, and I think it's disgusting that the system isn't more realistic and helpful from a lifestyle perspective. But, some people would say I'm just being cynical. I sure hope so. 'Cause the way I see it, people's hope in the system is selfish naivete. But, I'm being too dreamy. Clueless advisors, reps and faculty members that don't know how to respond to emails or answer phones. Their 2 year degrees take more than two years because they advise you poorly on scheduling classes. This school tried dropping surprise tuition charges on my account and they tried negating my financial aid because their financial aid rules on the website are vague or they contradict their own rules and the CSCU rules for the whole state. If you send an appeal expect to be waiting weeks on end while playing phone tag or getting no answer, only for your appeal to be denied anyway. Now they've outsourced their admissions phone line to a call center, so I imagine it's only gotten worse. Also, they offer no meal plans and the food is overpriced. Save your money and effort and study somewhere else if you can.A Account

The Electrical Engineering Technology program is ABET accredited, so that's nice. You'll find that most professors are great here. Only had maybe 1 or 2 that weren't that good. I will say that the financial aid office is not very helpful. Seems that whenever I call, somehow no one knows how to help me. I called once for information on getting leftover grant money moved to another semester, as I had done in a previous semester. According to who I talked to, they've never done that… OK. So I asked about paying it out… She said they'd send a check. Well, its been 5 months… Wheres my $8?! I recommend not calling the financial aid office about financial aid… That said, everything else is great and I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an Associates Degree.Cullen Perreault

The Data Science program is a possible scam. I'd like to share my recent experience with the Master of Data Science program at Central Connecticut State University. Without going into too much detail, the first few courses in the program started off well. They were hands on and taught me a lot, including programming languages/procedures with real world applications of Data Science. However the next two courses are where the program took a turn and where I started to see serious problems. The main problem is up to 50% of coursework and assignments in the latter courses started to lack lectures/videos and/or required readings that you'd normally expect from a graduate level education. Instead, we were essentially directed to web/google search and self teach ourselves both the concepts and technical programming procedures as well. For instance, in a required Multivariate Analytics course DATA 514, the course lecture, lesson, required readings etc did not actually teach how to test for Multivariate Normality of a dataset with a large number of variables, and instead the professor directed us to find the answers and teach ourselves the concepts and procedures online. Then, upon asking for clarification and the appropriate procedures, the professor was mostly combative and didn't provide clarification nor the procedures. I was left learning very little. Occasional web searches are fine and inevitable, but when web searches drive half of the assignments and grade on key concepts, and especially on technical data science and statistical procedures in R-Studio we haven't been exposed to, with minimal to no guidance, then I take issue. Upon complaining to the University that this not up to the level of graduate coursework expected from an accredited degree granting university, costing thousands of dollars each, the University essentially defended the aforementioned practices and gave no indications that they would make any changes. Anyway, just wanted to share. Again, I would recommend avoiding this Data Science program at Central Connecticut State, and recommend looking elsewhere. There appear to be plenty of Data Science degrees offered elsewhere, and I doubt many of them have a mode of instruction of asking you to web search R-Studio/Python procedures for up to half the coursework like CCSU does.Joe Arena

CCSU is a great school if you are in the engineering, biology/chemistry, or computer science disciplines. My professors are a mix of the good and the bad. My department is great, but some of my general education and cross-over courses have had terrible professors. The opportunity to learn is there if you are willing to put in the effort – most of the professors provide us with valuable resources and tools. The biggest problem I ever had with teachers was with (some of) the tenured professors who do as they please without regard for what students need to learn. They promote the worst from within to positions of leadership, but I guess that is the American way. As far as equipment in labs, we have stuff that is with, or ahead of the curve. While labs are well equipped for engineering, the bio-chem labs are too small, and there are not enough of them. Completing in 5 years is a fight. I have had to spend days upon days writing and re-writing my degree track plan to get out of Central a semester later than I had hoped (10). CCSU seems to lack staffing levels (or organizational ability) to keep the ball rolling and have enough courses open at the right times to get students to fulfill their degree requirements. Ultimately, I believe I will be well trained in my discipline – our program is extremely well fleshed out. It was frustrating I had to put so much work into jumping through hoops – I could have put that effort into learning my discipline better.Jamie Dewprinski

Graduated with a major in International Studies (East Asia) in 2006, then I was an assistant English teacher (ALT) in Japan for five years, but never applied to anything other than English teaching while being in Japan. After coming back, it was hard to find work, but after a couple of years I started applying outside of Connecticut and was able to work at Honda R&D in Ohio for about a year. Due to low pay and cost of living, I had to return back. It's impossible to find work with a Japanese company in Connecticut and rent in NYC would be insane. Taking the JLPT and living abroad should have been part of the major. I wish there was a better graduate/employment program.Joe

As I head into my last semester as SHU I wanted to say a few words about my experience thus far. First off, I have created some of the best friendships and networking relations with some of the best people and companies that have made my experience as good as I could have hoped. The academics pushed me to achieve new skills and acquire new abilities in my field of study. The university urges students to become more involved which was a huge part of my time there. Not only is the campus beautiful and ever growing, the food is amazing with various options. I would never regret my decision to go to Sacred Heart and I am sure you wouldn't too.Rebecca Carllio

Worse experience of my life. They claim they guarantee housing on campus all 4 years but it’s a LIE. They put me in a hotel as a freshman this year. It was 15 minutes away from campus and I missed out on everything. I dropped out a couple of weeks ago. If affected me emotionally and ruined everything for me. I missed out on meeting friends, living in a dorm, and being on campus. They don’t return any phone calls. All the care about is MONEY. Don’t recommend going to SHU at all. They have no sympathy for me and think they did nothing wrong by putting me in a hotel my freshman year.Christina Amato

If you need to withdraw for any reason, including medical emergencies or family emergencies, the Bursar’s office will tell you to sign the dotted line, and THEN inform you afterwards that you’re still responsible for half of that semester’s tuition. Very sneaky business practice – omitting important information. The director of student services looked me in the eyes and said, “This is a business.” So, if you’re coming here looking for a SCHOOL, you’re better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.meh w/e

Can't say much for the school or academics. Im not enrolled but my nephew is. I can speak only of the dorms, which are incredible. I want to live here (in fact I should since im paying!) They are covid safe. Last year was very strict. This year looks like they have the common areas open and in person classes again, so hoping my nephew can network more and meet people. The single most difficult, not my job bunch of employees I have ever come in contact with ! The one bright spot is technical support to help with the worst online support system in the industry. I have been pushed from person to person to help sign up for a senior audit class. The registration folks are unhelpful & pushed responsive to a part time adjunct teacher. Really?
