19 Best Physician Assistant Programs In Raleigh, NC (2022 Updated)

For a school that promotes women's strength and diversity, I am appalled to see that racism for the current students is still rampant. For those women to feel afraid and not be able to come forward and speak against it, is abhorrent. Do better. How can you allow for advisor's and students alike to treat others like that? Do better, it's 2022. Also, as I toured, I went with a family member. It was assumed I was a single mother and between the families who toured my "daughter" and I were skipped over for some questions while the larger families with relatives were asked more. I find this to be extremely telling along with the racism that this would not be a school I'd want my daughter or anyone's daughter to attend until they can work on their biases. It's also a little alarming they don't talk about what grants or how much anything is until you've been "admitted." And even more so when you find reviews elsewhere that state that they mess with tuition, or charge more without letting people know. For a school that charges so much, the environment seemed lacking. Also the tour guide mentioned something about being able to help children with autism, in a way that makes me feel like it's meant for others to feel good and not benefit the children. The approach in which it was talked about could have been more tasteful. Also how can you give a tour and not know anything about any of the degrees offered there? Little disappointing. In short: send your daughters elsewhere. This school has many improvements to make.E C

I have an Odd and an Even daughter and we were absolutely thrilled with Meredith! I always felt my daughters were safe there and never felt uneasy about leaving them there. Everyone from the President to the Maintenance staff to all of the Professors made us feel they genuinely wanted our daughters as students and not just our checkbook. Both of my girls really enjoyed their time there and I would recommend it to any prospective student to at least visit, It isn't for everyone but both of my girls were very pleased with the education they received.Brian Smith

Grad from several years back. Extremely few adequate professors/ administrators, majority incorporate liberal indoctrination into curriculum. Way too expensive , and college caters mostly to those who live on campus. The job I am currently employed at pays more than the jobs my degree is for. Be smart and do the research to look for a much less expensive college , and consult multiple sources before getting a degree that allows you limited career opportunities. So here's my Wake Tech story. I secured financial aid and then enrolled into Wake Tech as a full-time student. And then the financial aide office attempted to cut my much-needed aid twice, the first time on the Friday before my classes were to begin and then the second time was the following Monday via email when I was literally 4/5 the way through the commute from Fayetteville to Raleigh to attend my first day of classes, causing me to turn around and head back home. And another thing: maybe it's just me — perhaps I missed something?–however it seems that Wake Tech expects new students to simply show up and know what to do? Nothing's explained, nearly none of the stuff that I needed to know to get started was covered during the online orientation that new students are required to complete nor were we given any booklet or the like to explain how stuff works . But let's rewind a bit. After securing financial aid, enrolling and completing online orientation….I remained clueless. So thereafter I spent about a week commuting back and forth between Fayetteville and South campus in an effort to complete registration and get everything else taken care of. I did so under the assumption that I'd get stuff figured out if only I'd drive up there and speak to Wake Tech face to face–but not so . During this process I asked advisors and other staff a variety of questions only to be told conflicting info and advice thereby increasing my confusion. And then I went to the bookstore where I learned that some of the books that I needed were out of stock and that notebooks cost $8. So I left without my books. I did however attempt to attend classes first day of semester, as mentioned above, but then received that email from the financial aid office– had that not happened I would have went to school and maybe things would have turned out differently. I did receive another email from someone else at Wake Tech telling me that the email from financial aid threatening to reduce my aid the 2nd time was a mistake and that I'm covered…but unfortunately I've already missed a week of school so I guess I'm out. Very depressing as Wake Tech is the closest college offering a full curriculum on substance abuse/addiction counseling and that's what I want to do. But, it is what it is .Frank A

You remember when the pandemic started, and everyone had to start learning how to use computers? Now imagine, a bunch of teachers, creating online courses from scratch with no help. ITS A DISASTER. Its like NO ONE set a criteria for how the classes should follow a general structure, so that students aren't spending the first 2 weeks of every new class trying to figure out what is what. Its like no one showed them, "this is the gold standard"… this is what a well put together black board class looks like. The online courses are archaic. (Dr. Frear, I complained about some things and I am sorry. After seeing what else is our there( summer 2022), HOLY MOLY. Your blackboard set up is the least confusing and was by far, the best thing I have seen yet) Instructors use blackboard, not as a classroom but as a file folder system. Instead of using the platform, they made it so that every thing is word documents and or files you have to download when they could have just simply used the actual platform. I should only be downloading PowerPoint slides, worksheets, homework, etc. Not opening a document to read something you could have made a video and "instructed" us or copy and pasted to the platform. Does anyone know the definition of a syllabus there? It should be all encompassing. I shouldn't have to read 5 documents to figure out how I will be graded, what I will be graded on, the rules, the expectations, which books I need to buy. If the department has a syllabus, I'm pretty sure you are supposed to take that document and incorporate it into your own, at the very least create an addendum/appendix. My Grades should clearly have due dates, weighted totals, and all of the grade-able items at the start of the class. There should be no, imagining what my grade is at any given moment.Buttercups

I’ve spent 29 years teaching at Wake Tech and have taken a number of classes here too. I know what it’s like at Wake and I am telling the unvarnished truth about it. I’m retiring soon so it’s not about getting a promotion! Generally speaking the facilities, faculty and quality of education are really very good – in addition the price is still reasonable. Don’t be conned by private educational facilities that promise you a “great job” after graduation and then put you in a low end, minimum wage job where you can’t even afford to pay off your pricey school loans (this happened to a friend of mine). Go to WT and get a better education for a fraction of the cost – you will leave with real skills and THAT’S how you get a job – with knowledge. Plus Wake has a solid reputation with employers. Yes, there are aspects of the school that are unfortunate – I hear complaints from my students, and there are a number of policies that drive the faculty crazy too – much of it is due to the typical bureaucracy that seems inevitable with very large institutions. Is it really better elsewhere? Maybe. Maybe not. Nonetheless, if you go with the sincere desire and motivation to learn, and you treat your teachers and fellow students with respect – you will be supported by all and do well. The ILC really is a remarkable facility and is intended to help struggling students succeed. When it comes to the financial aid office I hear the best approach is to fill out ALL the paperwork that is required COMPLETELY and ON TIME. Follow instructions, that should go a long way to making the process easier.Marlys de Alba

I saw Selina James. She was very cold and didn’t seem to be taking me seriously (for reference, I’ve been having migraines and needed a GP). Reflecting on it, now that I’ve had some time, she was extremely rude and I left the doctors office feeling really disrespected. Even at that time, I would not have left a negative review. However, they have charged me for two immunizations that I didn’t receive. And when I tried to discuss the charges, Selena lied (or misremembered?) and said that I requested them. I didn’t ask for any specific vaccine. I am reporting this fraud to my insurance company, but want all to know to avoid this practice and specifically this doctor. Doctors are supposed to be trustworthy and I feel really hurt by this interaction.Rebecca Moore

Dr. Allu is the most thorough and proactive physician that I have ever worked with. I saw her in 3/2021 for a general annual physical exam and then again in 11/2021 for an incidentally discovered but potentially serious health problem. She listened to my concerns and had a plan to further work up and treat the new problem. She scheduled tests and she called me to discuss the results and plan for the future in detail. I have not received that level of care from any previous physician in my adult lifetime. I would highly recommend her and her practice and wish I had found her sooner. I feel that she is really an advocate for her patients.Tracy Gieger

Dr. James is an informative, calming, direct, and concise physician. I have been her patient for 10 years and I have been very satisfied with her care. I like that I can contact her via the Patient Portal, and that she responds to my message in a reasonable amount of time. My interactions with staff, in-person and over the phone, have also been fantastic. I also really appreciate the short wait time at the office, especially during the pandemic. I was visiting my Daughter, I had not have a physical exam for sometime, so I called and made a appointment, upon my arrival i was greeted by a very nice person at the waiting area, which took all my information and did all the paper work need. i did not wait long and the nurse, came out and greeted me and took all my vitals, then i was escorted to the doctors waiting room, the doctor entered the room and greeted me and ask me a lot of questions, i could tell he is a caring person and was listening to my issues, i felt comfortable with him. he ask the nurse to do blood work on me, i was a little nervous i do not like needles, but she was very good at finding my vein, and the process was painless, i was given a prescription, and i left, a few days later the doctor called me and explain my results, pointed out the overall view of my health, and she also made a lot of suggestions to improve my quality of health. I highly recommend this place, quality service and very professional staff.How2man 2022

AVOID THIS PLACE!!! They increased the “self-pay” appointment because they are growing. It was the reason they gave me by phone. I saw Dr Miguel Pinero and he has been the most rude Dr that I have ever seen in my entire life (I’m 77 years old). I felt like I was bothering him, I didn’t feel comfortable during the appointment. I need a regular blood test for my cardiac disease (every 2 weeks) and they told me that I need to see the Dr each time I need to perform the test and pay for the Dr appointment and blood test. I’m ok with the blood test fee but it’s no necessary at all to see the Dr each time I need an blood test order. I have my regular Dr out-of-town I just needed the lab order.Peachy Peachy

First visit went fine, then after the service is not as good as it seems. Been there so many times since this was our household primary doctor, but things are going in a different direction. X-rays, any test results, or any other type of test takes forever to get the results if you are lucky, otherwise they are not given. I got my bills first than a got a hold of the results, which is so ridiculous, very very disappointed. Sometimes patients wait so long there to see a doctor about 45 minutes sometimes more than that. People travel from far away to come to this location to get a good service, instead people there don't provide the service that's been promised.Jennifer Chevez

I’m writing this review to warn anyone thinking of trying this clinic. BEWARE. I’m sure many of you have already read the “other”negative comments I can wholeheartedly confirm the same level of unprofessionalism and downright disrespect experienced by staff members. I also shouldn’t have been suprised based on the “other” negative comments that staff members emulate their leaders which stems from the director of clinic himself! Basically having my symptoms dismissed and actually being told by “Dr Patel MA” (if you can believe) that a sitting heart rate of 120 is just fine and basically dismissed my reasoning for being at appointment and FALSIFIED MY VITALS which she didn’t check at all. It was shocking. Shocking enough to report this level of unprofessionalism to The clinic director (Dr Bobcock) who basically attributed to a he/she said situation. Mind you i can hear him typing away in the background not paying any attention to How hurtful the situation was just as dismissive as the medical assistant and the doctor. Honeslty people just stay away. I hope no one ever have to experience the unprofessionalism and dismissive overall staff specifically the DIRECTOR himself. I did not have a great experience with Dr. Babcock. I scheduled an appointment on 5/31 for what I believed to be pink eye. When Dr. Babcock came into the exam room he stood so far back against the wall as if I was holding him hostage. He only came close enough to look at my eyes and then he went back into the corner of the wall and continued with the exam. He did not check to see if my glands were swollen or to see if I had anything else wrong. He made it extremely awkward because he stood so far back as if he was scared of me. I had my mask on, I was not coughing or sneezing and plus I am fully vaccinated with a booster. All he said was yes you have pink eye. He did not prescribe me any eye drops for comfort of my red irritated eyes. He said it was a virus and it will run its course. My eyes are still red and itchy though. Here is the best part. Once the exam was done he would not allow me to leave through the front lobby which is the way I came in, but instead he took me out the back door. Who else has been lead out the back door of a doctor's office like that. I felt dismissed and disappointed. Mind you i have been seeing Dr. Babcock since 2018 and I have never been lead out the back door no matter what my symptoms were. I will not be back after this experience.Roderick Gorham

Staff is quite professional, punctual, helpful (especially Franky), but I do not wish to return due to the providers. Dr. Babcock has been incredibly unhelpful every time I go to see him. So much so that it's actually quite surprising, often times asking me to "read the box" when I have questions about basic medication or dosage. I've known him to be quite against preventative heart screening, which is absolutely wild to me – why on Earth would a doctor be AGAINST preventative heart screening? I have seen 3 different providers after having dismal experiences with Babcock, and have not had good experiences. Went in last week for an infection and was told "it's viral, let it run its course", after being sick for a week and literally begging for antibiotics. Obtained antibiotics from another doctor the following day and the infection cleared up in 24 hours. Unreal. Again, staff quite professional & nice, but I am searching elsewhere for a doctor.W Douglas Sampson

Beautiful campus, a high tech environment and lovely staff. If you attend this campus for the Nursing Program, be prepared to go through hell and back again. I wont sugar coat this curriculum like some advisers, you will break down and statistically you may withdraw from the same class multiple times. If you are interested in the Nursing program and take Anatomy or Microbiology, I would recommend having a clear schedule to dedicate toward a single course at one time and a solid, pre-existing support system. I do not recommend expediting your process through these requirements, as you will most likely have a bad time or not utilize the grade obtained. Disclaimer: This is a fantastic school with great teachers and having done well in my classes this is not a "vengeful" message. However, some of the curriculum is so jam packed week to week, you need to know what you are getting into for the sake of your hard-earned money – where one bad week can ruin a semester(s) worth of work.Jeff Rodgers

UPDATE (18Jan2022): they originally fixed this problem by just letting the call fall into the background which was fine. However they have since messed this up again. Come on Google Maps, this is a safety issue when driving, having to mess with the phone because the GPS goes away when on a call and the phone it turned to landscape. 🤦‍♀️ ORIGINAL (6 months prior): GPS to location was fine, but the new update has ruined the ability to be on a call and use GPS!!! When the phone is portrait mode the call shows at the bottom, once the phone turns landscape the GPS disappears and the call takes over the screen. I used to be able to back out of the call screen and open GPS back up and have GPS take up the whole screen now that isn't possible especially with your phone horizontal. 🤦‍♀️Joy MR

The staff and advisors are downright rude at this campus. Walking in, a staff member in student services says, “What do you want?? Why are you here??” When I spoke to an advisor to ask for help choosing classes, the advisor says, “Well haven’t you ever been to college?! Just look at the Nursing Informational and take the classes you haven’t taken yet.” I’ve never sat down with someone to discuss my transcripts, recommended classes, an academic timeline, nothing. Everything I’ve done for my college experience here, I’ve done on my own. When I graduate, I’ll remember the women at Perry Health Sciences were anything but helpful. In fact, they are the worst I’ve ever encountered.N H

Don't waste your time to attend ECPI. Staff is rude, never helpful, cannot communicate, and advisors don't even know what they do within their job description. Even teachers don't bother to even TRY to help. And They don't care about you, the whole "pause and come back if you need to" scenario means you get dropped, get a failing grade, and then have to re-register. They all seem like they were thrown into a job title and told to figure it out as they go even if they have to lie to get you signed up just to say you now owe them money. They never even processed financial aid even though I did it four times. Plus someone from ECPI will call everyday, several times just to "check in." Absolute WORST school experience! It was way too much hassle just to be able to do it online. Seriously, DON'T DO IT.Savannah Downey

Went here to meet with an advisor about their LPN program. I have my heart set on becoming a nurse and with my work schedule, going straight to nursing school isn’t an option for me. The advisor asked a few questions and immediately tried to get me to sign up for their Medical Assistant program! Uhhh…I don’t want to be a Medical Assistant. Why would you try to deter anyone from something they’re passionate about to what YOU think is best for them? Not to mention their LPN program is $37,000!!! That is ridiculous!!! RN is around $14,000 at Wake Tech. Yes, it takes longer, but you can do much more with it. Be VERY weary of this place. A lot of debt and no school I contacted would accept their credits if you’re trying to transfer them to further your education. You’ve been warned.Veronica

I don't recommended no one to go to this school. Very expensive. They force you to sit in a 5 hr classes before you are able to take online classes. I ask for online classes because of my work schedule. Not very flexible in the beginning. Esp if you are working 12 hour shifts. It's very hard to sit in a 5 hr class then leave & go right back to work. Didn't learn anything in the freshman course that's required. Mostly looking at an PowerPoint for 5 hours. Basically something that can easily be taken online in my opinion. And they pick your classes for you. I went there to pick up my schedule & my classes were already set. Ive never seen a school like this before. Worse experience at a college so far. Please do your research before enrolling at ECPI. I wish I did.Treva Vines

My wife has been having serious asthma issues, has run out of meds, and has been attempting to get an appointment and/or a prescription refill from her Dr (who I won’t name) for 5 days. She called two times on Friday to request an urgent refill of her meds which she is out of. But the pharmacy never got the order from the Dr’s office. Throughout the weekend she has struggled to breath, sleep and function. Once again on Monday she called the reception and left a voicemail for her Dr who, once again, failed to call in her prescription to the pharmacy and as of Monday evening she STILL has no meds. Now, Tuesday morning (5 days later), she is driving to the FMA office to beg for any doctor to see her and get her the asthma meds she so desperately needs. This entire situation is unacceptable. As it is now I am highly distressed and worried about the kind of care my wife is not receiving.Dan

Everyone here is rude ESPECIALLY the receptionists from the MOMENT I made an appointment. They kept putting me on hold, said they would follow up with me about an appointment inquiry and never contacted me again yet still scheduled me for an appointment. When I got there, they said I had a balance from years ago that THEY never followed up on. After I paid double, I wasn’t even questioned for what I initially came there for even for 2 seconds? EVERYONE was rude to me except the 2 Black women. It definitely felt racially charged!! I missed the old FMA. It seems there are only about 2 main doctors at this place that are actually good. Everyone I interacted with here was a credit to their profession. I set up primary care here after having to move away from another primary I really liked, and worried I wouldn't be able to find a good replacement, but APRN Ryan Johnston is WONDERFUL. Listened to my questions and replied thoroughly and thoughtfully, asked follow-up questions and offered proactive solutions to help manage my health. In my experience, getting a doctor to consider your health as a whole is so rare, but for Ryan Johnston it seemed to come naturally. So glad I found this place!Sarah Mills

Tremont just hasn't been the same since Jerry Pittman (RIP) retired and subsequently sold the place to the new owners. They've never taken/filed insurance– you pay at the counter before leaving– and they are among, if not THE MOST EXPENSIVE of the "docs in a box". When Dr Pittman was there it was $85 if it took 5 minutes or 5 hours. Now it's $117 if they take your temperature and $197!!! for an 'extensive' visit. My 15 minute (total time) visit the other day was deemed 'extensive'. They took my temp & my blood pressure. Other than that, Dr Tope, a big old country bumpkin looking fellow (though I'm sure he's smart) did NOTHING BUT TALK. He wasn't interested in my condition other than to tell me to go to the hospital. He knew I didn't have much money yet his advice was basically "don't bother me, I can't do anything for you'' It was never like this when Dr Pittman was there. I sure miss him as do other members of my family who no longer go to Tremont. They go down the road a mile and pay $99 which includes all tests (Tremont charged me $40/ea for 2 culture swabs. The other place included it in their price when my sister caught what I had) To cut my story short, I will never go to Tremont again unless everyone else is closed. They're simply no good when it comes to general practice (they've misdiagnosed people I know 3 times, plus one of the doctors there was sued for negligence; cost them a lot!) but I gave them 2 stars because I understand they have done a decent job at emergency stuff. They have more equipment than most people; I guess they know how to use it but no telling how much it will cost you. Ending– there's much better care at other places for stuff like the flu, colds, and other non-critical procedures for MUCH LESS MONEY within a mile of this place. And they're not in a hurry to rush you out the door. I'll never go there again, and I suggest you don't either.Phab4Phan

It’s pretty cool that there’s a super expensive PA school in this area. When I worked at a restaurant many students would stop in and dine. They were posh and smart. I had two friends complete the program and currently have one friend at the school now. It’s in a beautiful area or “the nice-ish” end of Ramsey.Skotii
