One of the most beautiful 👩‍🎓college campuses in the southeast United States. Nestled just northeast of downtown Winston-Salem, best campus has tons of greenery, open fields and green space to lounge or play sports, has a nature trail with access to Reynolda Village with shops and eateries, and a supreme education as well. I saw The Messiah here on Sunday. Campus is unbelievable and it was wonderful to feel God's presence on a school campus again. The entire production was amazing and I could not have enjoyed it more. It's very worth finding out more about the story of how it was written first, so when you watch it live you'll have a deeper appreciation. A whole lot has changed since I was attending here. The name of the mascot has changed. Also this was called Point Loma Nazarene College. Speaking of changes, one thing that hopefully hasn't changed is the cafeteria food, most college cafeteria food SUCKS…NOT HERE…the food is/was catered by Marriot. Wingate has a very personable and helpful staff many of whom have been there a long time it seems . Admissions staff was first rate. But once your student is enrolled, as a parent, you will need to be persistent to stay informed so you can help your student succeed. Wingate's technology is antiquated. Difficult to do any business online as a parent. The school is paper intensive and sometimes the paper seems to fall through cracks. Wingate only recently came up with a way for tuition to be paid online. There is no parent portal yet that allows you to stay up to date with what is due when. Bills are mailed and the expectation is you mail checks or pay on site. If they have a payment plan, they do not advertise it. Most pertinent information goes through the student portal that the parent has no access to. This creates opportunities for miscommunication and missed deadlines. The school is under-staffed. If you have to phone someone to ask for help or clarification, expect to get voicemail that states you will hear back in a couple of days at least. Email is a better option but don't expect a same-day reply. Communication is not a strength here. During this last and very widespread flu season, the campus had a very big outbreak but no classes were cancelled and parents never received any communication regarding making certain your student had a flu shot. Overall, I would say the school has its heart in the right place and most professors are engaged and want to see the students succeed. Still, the school has a ways to go in developing the kind of infrastructure that justifies its tuition costs. Wingate rightly has a reputation as a collegiate Sparta, roughly one in every four students is some sort of athlete. Not necessarily a bad thing but if your student is not going to be playing a sport or chooses to leave a sport once there, be aware of what other options they have on campus to stay engaged. The student transfer rate accelerates at year two. If campus surroundings are a consideration, know that Wingate is an exceedingly small town so that the campus is basically all there is. The neighboring town of Monroe is slightly bigger with more ammenities: small mall, Walmart and fast food options. Charlotte is a short drive beyond that. Uber is not allowed on campus, we were told. So your student needs a car or friends with wheels if he or she is going to leave campus or fly out of Douglas International. Overall, Wingate has been a good experience for our student despite a bit of heavy lifting for the parents. Having proper expectations is important when choosing a college. Been here for three years and all Wingate has done is raise the price of tuition while subsequently taking away things on campus. For one, they have limited our meal exchanges for Chick-Fil-A and Freshens to only two and three exchanges per week. The caf is unlimited, but they close at 8 p.m. and have limited food options. Wingate is also planning on charging us to keep our cars on campus while raising tuition at the same time. My question is why? No one asked for the DPC to be upgraded (and it was supposed to be done in January…) so why should we have to pay for it? The freshman dorms are in serious need of upgrading and the upperclassmen apartments are manageable but not worth the money, in my opinion. Honestly, the only reason I still attend Wingate is for the music department, and that’s why I gave this review 2 stars instead of 1. There is absolutely no reason that our tuition should be raised each year, that’s ridiculous and it actually causes many athletes and other students who attend Wingate on full scholarships to have to drop out. Private colleges are supposed to be essentially all-inclusive since that’s what the high tuition prices are for, but Wingate is definitely not all-inclusive and constantly cheats us out of our money.Lauren Whitley

Wingate University holds a special place in my heart as this is where I started my college education. I ended up transferring to complete my Nursing degree (at the time Wingate did not offer Nursing degrees) Even so, my faculty advisors and mentors steered me towards my strengths, leading me to a rewarding career in Nursing. My stepfather who admitted himself in for feeling unwell, and was terminally ill, sadly never had a chance to walk out of icu. He walked in one day in October and never walked out a few days later. When he admitted himself in, he was talking and walking and very coherent. A couple days later, he wasnt any of those three. Maybe they couldn't save him, it was his time..maybe it wasnt…but he was doing way better when he admitted himself in, then laying in his deathbed in icu. When I came in to visit him, he couldn't talk, and had blood practically pooling in his mouth, all over his teeth, gums, tongue and hands. Blood literally all in his mouth, practically coughing and choking on his own blood. The doctors and nurses weren't helping him AT ALL. WE HAD TO MAKE A NURSE GET ALL THE BLOOD OUT HIS MOUTH SO HE WOULD QUIT CHOKING ON HIS OWN BLOOD. IT WAS THE MOST HORRIFYING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. THEY SHOULD OF DONE MORE THAN NOTHING AT ALL. IT WAS A HOSPITAL OF HORRORS. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL, COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL. PERIOD. Yeah, nice building but that might be the last thing you see… My own experience, when in because I'm 150% positive I have blood clots in my leg, they did blood work and charged me almost $2,000 for just blood work. I went in the ER, was never put in a room, sat on a hospital bed in the hallway for 3+ hours…the entire time. It was not a private visit…everyone heard everything that was said and discussed. I begged for an x-ray, MRI anything that would show blood clots. They refused and told me it was either bruising or nothing at all. No its not bruising, because ive had this "bruising" for months… Going to another hospital for a second opinion. The doctor or student whoever is was that saw me walked out the same time I did, and beat me to the cafeteria. They let me leave when they were leaving. We practically walked out together. Tell me, HOW DO I KNOW MORE MEDICAL INFORMATION ABOUT MY CONDITION THEN THEY DO?! When I told them what condition I thought I had, they never heard about it and was googling it in front of me!! I told them more information than they even knew!!! Dont waste time and money on a hospital that employees Dont seem to know information medically they are suppose to know and be learning about. I watched my own stepfather suffer and die in the hands of these unprofessional. How many others are suffering from the hands of them?A McCoy

My husband was concerned about his heart and was treated by the MUSC chest pain center at Ashley Towers. The team was professional and knowledgeable and empathetic. They listened carefully to our concerns and asked every conceivable question. They ordered the appropriate test and analysis for his condition. The medical care provided was great but the cleaning service sucked. My friend stayed for 6 days, when they placed him in the room someone else's paperwork was on the table,used medical supplies were on the counter, the trashcan had used adult briefs in it, the floor had not been swept and blood was on the floor (that was not his). The advisors are literally the worst I have seen. They are basically unaware of how to advise, impossible to reach, don't follow through, and give no recommendations on pre requisite classes. Now the health science department is even worse. The instructors pride themselves on a high failure percentage. They deviate from school policy and ALL Bio 210 and 211 professors are arrogant and unwilling to support your child. Stay away from the arrogant professors, AND they don't care about your future.AB Gentry

this technical college is the best technical college in south carolina, there was a problem with the workers at the edgefield campus, they lost my transcripts, and they tried to cancel my advisement appointment so they could meet their boyfriend in the parking lot, the students at the edgefield campus were rude, and trashy, they are not going to stop me from going there, the classes that you have to take are wonderful, the instructional methods are excellentJessica Taylor

Thiel College is such a wonderful D3 school for athletics and it's a great college because it's small and you get to know everyone on campus, especially the professors, coaches, and staff which is most important. It is just a short distance to the surrounding buildings on campus. It's a beautiful get-away to the country side. Thiel College just added a PA program and an MBA program, which are both great routes to go through, just in a couple of years. Division three sports are fun to get involved in because there's not too much pressure on you as an athlete while staying caught up with academics. You get to know everybody like family. Everybody cares about you on the college faculty. The staff members are all great, too. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because I don't feel like students really "belong" in Greenville outside of campus. It seems like there's an us versus them vibe. Four year liberal arts and science university with graduate degrees in several disciplines. Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, Hardin-Simmons University also offers theological education, including doctoral programs, through its Logsdon Seminary. The library has a great collection of Texas archives. Nice residential facilities, several new structures. Known for it's religious activities, the university undertakes several community service and missions projects every year. With the Cowboy theme, the sports program is well known. My son attends Morehouse! Their freshman class made history Fall 2016. This was his first time leaving home. Well into the first semester, he made his first visit home, I was astonished at what I observed for those two days. He had matured mentally, spoke with clarity and confidence, more importantly he carefully listened to what was being said, evaluated what he needed to say before blurring it out as he did prior to attending Morehouse College and spoke humbly with an improved vocabulary. I had to stare at him a few times to see if he was the same young man that just left three months ago… Although, the change may have not been huge, it was significant enough to be noticeable by our family, neighbors and his friends. I cried happy tears before going to bed that night and I thank God for guiding him to this school. His change is real, his struggles are in the past and his success is his future transition from a "Man of Morehouse" to a "Morehouse Man!" This institution is only living off the names of the world renowned gentleman that are alumni.Because of an incompetent administration team,I only spent 15 days at that school due to financial issues which I was not at fault.It is ironic to witness the urgency they displayed in removing me from my registered classes,however the same urgency was not made to find my FAFSA information in a timely manner that was carelessly misplaced in some soft copy files.This school is a joke,and should be grateful of the outstanding names associated with it. IC is composed of an amazing group of kids, many of whom have diverse interests. There's opportunities to learn new skills, from forestry to billiards to religion to music to dance. The town is made up of a smorgasbord of people who love conversation and will show you new parts of the world. There is no shortage of opportunity here and if you apply yourself and find what is right for you, there is a home at IC for you. While I enjoyed my time at IC, I can admit it was a challenge for me to find my footing here. Ithaca College is a great place for upper-middle white class folks in athletics. It's also great for the sociable types. But for true academics it can often fall short of being challenging or engaging. The teachers are fantastic, but the coursework is bland. There are a lot of preppy people, very fake people, but mostly just a population of people still trying to find themselves, which is normal. It can often be hard to find the right friends. But the community is huge, and you will find them if you try. The politics at IC (not the coursework but the administration) is rocky at best and getting rockier. IC needs to figure out their priorities and give the students (who put themselves into massive debt to attend this college) a good governing body who take pay cuts to give scholarships and better food and healthcare options. Also, on politics: Not only is the Ithacan so far left they nearly circle around back to right, but the entire political atmosphere is made up of so many people with so little real-world applicaple knowledge that it definitely put a weird taste in my mouth. White feminism is rampant. Otherwise it's a great school for communications, music, environmental studies, outdoor education, and business. If you want a liberal arts degree I would recommend another school. Utilize office hours. The teachers are amazing and filled with knowledge. Talk in class. Have discussions. Go off campus. A beautiful campus…that's about it. Don't look for friendly as you will only find phony. Got a great welcoming letter from Park School but when my son needed help, "Oh, we don't do that." Then called again, woman who sent welcoming letter with her home phone, cell phone and office phone provided on business card attached to the letter is no longer at the school. Son had no advisor, as advisor left school. No life line at this school. My son found school to be an elitist, obnoxious place. We wish he had never heard of Ithaca. Baylor is an amazing school. For a few reviews before me we are not all "rich kids wanting to blow daddy's money" or "rude". I personally have a bad background that would not match the first statement. I am not rich. I am blessed to be in this university thanks to scholarships and my hard working mother. Baylor itself is a blessing. Its a rigorous school BUT very well worth it. I love being part of the Baylor community. Its a beautiful campus filled with loving people. Its not "perfect" because nothing is. There will be a few issues like yes there are some kids who don't care and my be rude or blow things off but really if you are a part of it you will see the majority of the campus and the people here are more than amazing and loving. This is a fantastic university for the liberal arts. I have talked to people from other universities and to those that have come to visit me at college, and all of them see a difference in the student body. There is just a different atmosphere. All the people are kind and welcoming and always willing to help in times of need. The professors are nationally ranked and are not only outstanding in their fields of study, but wonderful people as well. Even if you're not looking to go to college, its a beautiful campus to just walk around in. It's almost like a park in some ways. Just give it a visit and I promise you'll be hooked! I loved my time as I attended Baylor for undergrad, and grad school (2008-2015). The campus has changed so much since i first step foot in 2008 (all for the better). Baylor (and Waco) is in a resurgence/growth period. Its an awesome time for Baylor and Waco. I loved my time there even though I'm not religious (agnostic/theist). Great people (students and especially faculty), and community. There was a reason why I came back to get my masters at Baylor. They helped me get through some rough times, and i am better for it now. Extremely racist school. I attended here for 3 years (2009-2012). It was a legacy of my family to attend and graduate from here and I regret it. Not only did I not graduate, I felt unwelcomed as a Native student. I even participated in Native student organizations and spent a lot of time at the cultural center because that was the only place I felt comfortable and accepted. South Dakota is just a racist state all around. I regret listening to my parents. I should have went to the school I was also accepted and had really wanted to go to. These white ppl can keep their precious athletics department! Even the frat parties were racist and sucked! The varying architecture of all the buildings on campus was nice though. Went for one year and never went back. The general required classes are similar at other places, but other places actually care about you. I went to another college before this one, and USD refused to allow me to transfer the credits because they were from out of state. The admissions were nice, but whoever decides what credits transfer couldn't care less about you if you come from out of state. Their biology department needs major help, because they had to change teachers often and even hired one who couldn't speak English. AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF A SCIENCE MAJOR!!!!!! Poorest Chem department I've ever experienced. The chemistry teachers (in my experience) are just bad teachers. They don't have the experience to teach in some cases or are just unorganized in their lectures. They can tout #1 Biology Program in the Country (for Christian schools) but Chemistry is bloody important too. Every science major needs Chemistry. So, what's a good biology program really got to do with it if Chemistry teachers are flippantly FAILING students without any analysis of their own teaching. Why are the chem labs impossible? I graduated from Lipscomb in 2011 and loved my time there. The university has an active campus life and dedicated staff and student leadership. I really enjoyed living on campus, my Bible classes, attending concerts and campus life events, and going to basketball games. I majored in organizational communication with a minor in marketing, and I have been working in digital marketing since 2013. I still visit Lipscomb's campus and enjoy seeing how it's changed. The only reason ppl go here and are willing to grossly pay for an education is the location. I went to school here and will say it is far overpriced for the education you are given. Some staff are great and really care about the education they are providing. Others just read off a powerpoint and have no interest except for a paycheck. Pace is expensive, doesn't help the students getting internships and when the students get one on their own, Pace takes the credit. After graduating, the students don't get a job. One of their alumni just got a good job and due to she owes money, they don't give her transcripts and are retaining her title. Is not possible for Pace to help when the students really need help? Additionally, the lack of diversity (granted, because of how this is a private school) is also lacking. Great local university offering a solid education, but lacking administration. For its size, USC Upstate offers an impressive number of courses, specializing in education and nursing. The vast majority of professors employed at Upstate are talented individuals and gifted teachers, very skilled at imparting knowledge on students. The actual grounds and structures of Upstate are well kept up, and consistently being updated, improved, and added on. As an alumnus, I am thoroughly happy with the education that I received at Upstate. My only complaint about Upstate is the administrative department. Admissions, financial aid, and any other non-education portion of the school seems disconnected and completely unaware. I frequently had to call or stop by to address what seemed to be extremely minor issues, only to spend hours running around to find a fix. My wife applied, never received an acceptance letter, but she later received a confirmation of financial aid. Never assume they've handled an issue that you have any concerns about. USC Upstate is a great school, one that I will continually offer my support for. However, they could definitely improve the admissions department, and all other administrative facets of the school. Stay on top of any issues before they become urgent and you should do just fine here.Jake Hennett

The second semester resulted in a slightly better experience regarding the online education format. We plan to enroll in more in person classes next semester. L.Bishop Original review: I don't know what this University was like before the pandemic, but we are not getting a good value for the money. Several professors last semester did not seem proficient with the virtual/online format or appear to care that students weren't getting the same or comparable education to in person classes. I wish we had enrolled in a fully distance learning program elsewhere, as they are proficient with everything online learning entails. Also, when choosing a University, many compare tuition costs. This college is a joke, I hate that I even transferred here. I should of looked at these reviews before I even thought about attending. I'm going to try my best to get out this university. The staff here always gives you the run around, seems very uneducated and not much helpful to make your transfer goes as smooth as possible. I hate this school already and I haven't even started yet till next week. Plus if you are a veteran you basically have to do everything yourself, they don't know their job and you have to figure out everything on your own. Something is always missing. They are clueless. I can't tell you how many times I had to take trips up there because my phone calls were never returned and I'm not even a current student yet, or they tell you your good to start school in the upcoming semester then something else pops up you need in order to start. Atfter 3 years… Word to the wise, more often than not, you never crack open that 100, 200 something dollar book. A quarter of the professors are great people and go above and beyond and are the positives of the university. Another quarter are there and go through the motions, pretty average and that's fine. The rest are communicationally and emotionally compromised and feel the need to be dictators of their classrooms and go on emotional rants unrelated to material, are professors that have checked out because retirement is around the corner, or are teaching assistants in their early 20s and have no idea what they're doing and rush through so they can get THEIR work done. Parking is a mad house the first half of the semester. I've spent an hour trying to find parking and gave up, I've been threatened and screamed at, dealt with aggression and almost hit by cars. It's not like I felt safe on campus anyways or in Springfield for that matter. The school enrollment is growing faster than they're willing to keep up expecting more and more from professors and give less and less to those who pay the continually raising tuition.Steph McCarty

I myself have had a horrible experience at MSU, but I won't let that account for the school as a whole. If you are considering entering the Computer Information Systems program, you should really consider another school. The instructors in the program are currently abysmal. They are working hard to improve the program, but for now you will learn at a pace and challenge level much less than you would even get at OTC. The College of Business in general felt like a degree mill, in my opinion. As for the rest of the campus, it really is great in every way. You can do almost anything you need right on campus easily. The Foster Recreation center has an awesome pool and great selection of workout equipment. The library is also top-notch and has a great selection. I have a feeling that if you're pursuing an education in non-technical subjects, this would be a great school for the money. If that's not the case though, I highly recommend you seek a better business school elsewhere. Springfield has a hard time retaining talent, and you'll find little of it in the more technical departments at MSU.scott knox

BUYER BEWARE: You'll be fine at MSU as long as you don't complain about any lack of teaching pedagogy in your classes. As a student I have had a Jekyll and Hyde type of experience here; some professors include direct instruction (in a number of modalities) others do not. I was told verbatim by a professor; "I'll do what I want and no one can tell me differently". Another professor, on three separate exams, gave no feedback and in a class of 16 students had four A's with the rest, B, C, D, F, range and didn't change his "Educating" the entire semester. One other professor who had given out continual C's and B's – said he didn't need to teach for "Mastery" of the topic – he only needed to give "Students a shot"… Keep in mind professors are experts in an area and not teachers – that is do not have the training and education to teach, to reach students. Further, in classes I have never seen an administrator come and evaluate the level of "Teaching" being done.ME W

Let's be honest. This was your second choice. It's not the "best college in the world" or the "most beautiful campus in the world". Spent one and a half years here where it could’ve been one and a half years spent better elsewhere. Please, this is an extension of high school. Find your education and college experience elsewhere. I live near this college and me and my wife and kids love to take walks threw it. It's so beautiful and peaceful. Also you have campus police always around so you feel safe at all times. And the bell tower is a nice sight to see. But hearing that thing go off at 11:00pm at night I could go without.Shawn Dronet

I attended their physical therapist program for a semester and a half (after being offered a fellowship). I have to say, it was one of the most disorganized things i've ever witnessed in my entire life and one of the worst experiences of my life. Luckily, i realized early enough to bail after paying only $40,000. No written policies/procedures for 3 months (they were running late), hard to access labs (you have to be friends with another student, its a "social thing" per administration. Problem is, i dont drink, i dont really like ping pong, and i dont want to date someone in the program, although there were several couples enrolled together in the program. Administration views this as "professional behavior".). There is so much bs, i couldn't possibly fit it all here. If wild conflict of interest is your thing, then this is the place for you. Chapman's mascot is a panther, perhaps their motto is "Chapman University – Where education is predatory."Craig Zach

As always, campus is lovely. I was very impressed by the fact that they maintained the beautiful landscaping and fountains even during the pandemic when they had no students there. Now the people are back, and it is autumn, they have once again shown a beautiful smaller campus…the potential. Lot of people trampling around on the campus and they are still keeping up the appearance. As far as the school is concerned I don't have all that much contact but they certainly seem to have a nice crop of students. The law school however is still suffering significantly, at least among those of us in the field, from their association with John Eastman, he of the Trump insurrection fame. I don't know how that will pan out for them. Still…. Worth a wander amount the grounds & the fountains with a coffee.James F. Haas

The campus is calm and lovely with a colorful taste of student life. The long standing history of the school provides a global perspective for all students. The support staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is nice and clean. There are reasonable varieties of selections in cafeteria for all meals. Overall, I had a great experience attending a three-day conference on campus hosted by the NCACLS and SCCCS on campus.Bianca Chang
