20 Best Physician Assistant Programs In Des Moines, IA (2022 Updated)

Writing a review for UNMC is an emotional task for me because they have been there for my mom and family through life, sickness, recovery, health, and even death. In all they've been there for they did right, without judgement or bias, and with care, hope, and support. I live in Kansas, but I know this hospital and all the towers better than some streets near my home. I've interacted with many specialty doctors, nurses, techs, housekeeping staff, ER, security team members, and so many others. We've experienced teams in Kidney Transplant, Wound Care, Cardiovascular, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Derm, Cancer Center, and the Comfort Care Team. I can tell you that these teams are here because they love what they do. If you're considering UNMC as a new place to care for your needs I would do so without hesitation. When my mom moved they were so helpful in her transition to Kansas. Without them we'd be lost. We will miss each of her teams, their knowledge, and their care. It was so hard to leave.Tam E

Very disappointed in care provided. Nursing seems sorely under staffed. Although they frequently have cell phone in hand. Communication between staff (doctors and nursing staff)is lacking. Communication of providers and patients is insufficient. Facility is dirty dusty and run down. And should we talk about HIPPA….nothing to talk about….it doesn't exist there. Hep locks do not get flushed even after several days….negligent much? Showers/bed baths not offered to patient even after 3 days in-house. Are they trying for some nosocomial infections?S B

Today I went to Nebraska medical center and the eye clinic. The people that are very friendly and nice it's clean has three levels. The doctor I seen seem very knowledgeable and was very concerned with my eye condition it was funny when we first pulled up and parked in the first row there was a broom next to the handicap sign made me laugh remind me of handicap which parking. Someone probably had clean snow off their car with the broom and left it there.Karen Beautiful

Our daughter came all the way from Arizona to this small school in Iowa, and it has proved to be a God inspired decision. We are so grateful for the way the school has offered plenty of activities for her to get involved in as well as the family atmosphere she has felt in dorm hall. The small class size is great for interactive teaching and the faculty have been amazing in their instruction, as well as their interest in my daughter’s success. We are thankful for the faith of the school and their uncompromising integration of it. We have not been disappointed in our financial sacrifice and allowing are girl to go so far from home. I was charged 600 dollars because they weren't able to post the required material for for a class, until the day before the class was suppose to start. When talking to them on the phone, it was like I was talking to a incoherent baboon, one second they say I'm talking to the wrong office. Asked to get transferred to the right office, then hear them say this is the right office. If you have a stereotype of an illiterate Iowans, then this place fits it like a glove. Don't waste your time, go to a real community college, not some redheaded step child who's parents are inbred framers. Can't emphasis how bad the administration is.Steven Bell

Very bad experience today. Doctor Ash has never asked that we wear a mask (We have had multiple appointments). This is the interaction today, November 2, 2021 8:50 am to 9:45 am. We enter the building. Sit and wait (no mask) for our appointment. We get called in to the room (no mask). Doctor Ash comes in to the room: "You have a couple tears, but I'm recommending physical thera- I'm going to need you to put your mask on." Us:"I don't want to put the mask on doctor". Doctor Ash: "It's our policy, I'm sure there is signs on the door." Us: "Yeah there is signs everywhere, you have seen me twice before this and you haven't tried to make me wear a mask." (Johnson and Downtown) Doctor Ash: "I must have been having a bad day on those days." Us: "I don't think you were having a bad day and I don't think you are having a bad day today. So what? I don't need surgery." Doctor Ash: "Just 10 minutes and we can finish this appointment". Us: "Just physical therapy?" Doctor Ash: "Yes that is what I recommend" and he walked out of the room. We have requested our medical records and MRI results. They said this could take up to 10 business days. We will see if we get them in a timely fashion. To anyone reading this: This is a problem. A doctor trying to with hold medical advice based on what you are wearing is not okay. We are FREE to make our own medical choices. Doctors need to understand that while you may have schooling the medical world is just a "practice". We as consumers can decide whether or not we take your advice.Megan Dickinson

Was a little worried after speaking to the staff member I spoke to. She was setting up appointment for my dad's referral. She was alittle short with me on the phone. She was quick to cut me off when I asked questions or when I was answering her questions. After his appointment we where very happy with the nurses and loved the doctor. I appreciated finding out about the MRI results, but was very disappointed in the fact that my Dr. didn’t believe in therapy! In all actuality I am getting massage as well as ultra sound treatments and a steroid patch twice a week to heal my tendinitis! I was referred to 21st Century Rehab by my dentist because I was having TMJ issues. The appointment was easy to set up and reception was helpful and friendly. For physical therapy, I worked with Logan Koopman. At each of my appointments, Logan was professional and courteous. He helped me feel comfortable and made sure I understood my treatment plan. I noticed improvements almost immediately, and I am confident in the exercises I have learned to strengthen and improve my muscles going forward. I have recently received Occupational and physical therapy services at 21st Century Rehab at Story County Medical Center. Steve, Katie, and Nancy have all provided excellent therapy. My back and neck pain are resolved completely. My wrist is almost fully recovered following a fracture. All the staff have been fully committed to my recovery and have demonstrated a high level of expertise. Scheduling has been easy without waiting for weeks to get an appointment. 21st Century Rehab in Nevada rocks!! Starting when making my first appointment the office staff were flexible, understanding and very professional. I feel I am in good hands with my physical therapist. He's knowledgeable of my condition, pays attention to detail specific to me. Everyone shows a genuine concern for us. I was in a head on car accident in September 2020. I have injuries with my back, neck, shoulders and basically my entire body still hurts and I have chronic pain. I started coming to Capital Chiropractic in December 2021. After just a few visits with Corrine my back and neck are starting to feel better. My headaches are no longer every single day but once or twice a week. When I do my excersices it does help relieve the pain. To tell you the truth, I was a bit skeptical about the initial simple exercises Sarah prescribed for my neck, shoulder and back pain. But after 3 weeks of intense pain that wouldn't subside, I was willing to give anything a shot. Within a few days of doing these exercises (I can't even call them exercises, they're so easy and not time consuming!), the pain was almost completely gone. Best of all, she listens and adjusts based on what my body is telling us. She treats me as an intelligent adult, explaining what she's doing and what she recommends and why. Thee best chiropractic care I've received in years! I was referred by a coworker d/t back, arm and chest pain. Went through so many tests to find out it was in fact, a musculoskeletal issue, so I went and seen Dr. LoRang and he has been so knowledgeable, helpful and most of all kind. My son recently had an appointment with Dr. Fox and his team. It was an excellent experience. Not only is he very proficient medically, he is also an accomplished communicator and natur educator. He did an exceptional job of explaining how and why he was prepping my son for a procedure and made sure to ask him if he had any questions. This was my first time seeing Dr. Fox for a gel knee injection and I really liked him. He explained everything and went into detail about what to expect after the procedure so I would not be surprised. He also numbed the injection area and I felt nothing. Matt DeWall is fantastic. He is a critical piece of my primary care team. Without him, I would a miserable disabled mess. He keeps me strong, moving and at my best. He has treated me for TMJ, back injuries, neck issues, ankle surgery rehab, etc. He has also seen and treated my son when he had a viral infection that settled in his hips leaving him unable to walk right. Professional, confident, informational, intelligent, good listener, comfortable and friendly! (This guy actually knows what he is doing) I am usually very nervous at chiropractors. Jake is awesome, he treats you as friend and family and makes you feel at home. His staff is also very polite and friendly. Every person's body is different and Jake knows exactly how to find and work on what needs to be done–without hurting you!! He makes sure to get as much information about what you need worked on, before he just jumps right in blind. Jake asks and listens and he is really good at explaining things. I have learned a lot from him. My issues have noticeably improved and continue to improve! I was in so much pain before seeing him and no other chiropractors have come even close to how much he has helped me so far. Jake is also stellar at working with your schedule. The only thing I am nervous about now is, when I move, if I can locate a chiropractic doctor even half as good as him. I have been coming to this dentistry ever since I was little! I went with my family when we were kids but now I go by myself, and the feeling coming back alone is never scary. I have had a great experience at 21st Century Rehab in Carlisle! I’m rehabbing from a total knee replacement 2 weeks ago. Matt Wanderscheid has coached me through the process of strengthening my quads and has helped me to greatly increase range of motion in my knee. I have made really good progress and have recently been able to ride a stationary bike. I appreciate the individualized care I have received and many helpful suggestions to maximize progress and avoid injury while recovering from a major surgery! Thanks to a great team! I went to Northpark Dental for a checkup and in need of restoration work. My checkup went fine and we scheduled an extraction for only a few days later, which I was very grateful for. Dr. Trung and the staff were kind, patient and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. The extraction went well and I have had no unexpected complications. However, I was in a great deal of pain for the first 36 hours after the procedure. I have had gastric bypass surgery and because of this, I can’t take NSAIDS as pain relievers. I let the staff know this at both appointments. I was advised to take Tylenol for the pain. Today when Dr. Trung followed up with me to see how I was, he advised that he was unable to prescribe opiates, but offered to prescribe something to help with the swelling, which would in turn likely help with the pain. I’ll keep this in mind for next time I’m in for work so I can ask for them. I plan on taking my kids here for checkups – the care I’ve received has been great. Today was the first time I had a dentist check on me personally. That alone is worth 5 stars.Jodee Wedgeworth

I hadn't been to the dentist in a few years so I was rather nervous about the work I may need done. Dr. Trung and his staff made me feel so comfortable and identified with clear explanations on the plan to get my teeth back to good health. I've had a couple of cavities filled and even had a tooth that need some emergency attention and they were able to get me right in. Most importantly I didn't feel a thing when given shots (Dr. Trung is truly amazing at what he does!) and my smile has never looked better! I have had the pleasure of seeing both Dr. Babor and Dr. Phan. This office has to be the most personable office I have ever been to, starting with the front desk when you walk in the door. I have been a patient of Dr. Alex and the girls at Alliance Chiropractic Center for a little over a month now, as I came to Alliance Chiropractic for neck, back, and leg pain, which I have had the leg pains for several years and haven’t had anyone able to give me the help and relief I needed up till now. Businesses like this one are why I prefer to support local ones. It's not owned by a corporation, it is run by people who, yes, are just doing their jobs, but they are bound by their work and doing a little bit of good, not the need to make rent. As a patient, you are treated for your specific problem, not given a cure-all that doesn't actually address the problem. It's worth taking the time to get your X-rays taken so that they can give you proper treatment. I was unable schedule an appointment for several years with Advanced Family Dentistry, but upon my return it seemed like it was a very short time as the staff was welcoming and anxious to reestablish the concern for my dental mouth health. The wait time was minimal from the time I arrived and when the hygienist escorted me to her work area. She was truly concerned and was anxious to up date and improve my dental care and insure my were healthy or required additional attention. When doctor entered the room she reviewed what the hygienist had found and discussed with me any concerns I had. I’ve suffered from dry eyes since Lasik surgery 10+ years ago. Have been to numerous doctors all over the US with the same outcome. They try every drop and act like they don’t believe it when I tell them my eyes get worse and all goopy. I had pretty much just given up when I found Premier Vision Clinic on a dry eye Facebook group. Dr. Denhartog actually ran a bunch of tests no other doctors have done and for the first time I feel like we have a plan of treatments instead of just more drops and hoping they work. I feel like she really educated me on what is causing my issues too. In the first couple months now after I started my new regimen including IPL my symptoms are so much better. For the first time in a long time I’m hopeful. I also am using their skin care products as I found out my beauty counter brand was actually bad for dry eyes and my skin has definitely improved. It’s expensive but really not much more than the department store brand I was using and a little goes a long way. If you are desperate for relief of your dry eyes, this is definitely the place. And a referral to Iowa city I saw a colleague of Dr. DenHartog at iowa city who referred me to her clinic in Clive. The two talked about all the issues I had and all the treatments and procedures I had there. Dr. Jennifer DenHartog’s staff is so pleasant very helpful Dr. DenHartog turned my life around she has all the new treatments out there for dry eye and she’s always explains things so well. She always goes the extra mile and keeps herself so informed on all the new treatments/procedures. Dr DenHartog suffers from dry eye too so she understands what her patients go through and is compassionate about helping her patients. I’ve been going to see Dr. DenHartog all of my adult life and have never once been dissatisfied in the slightest. It really is always a fun and welcoming experience going to premier vision clinic. We have been patients here since before Dr. Kent Brady retired. This was one of the rare offices that was in network with our insurance AND had great reviews with a nice office and staff. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving the practice awhile ago for a few reasons. Dr. Lysne is nice but missed a very obvious pocket of infection on my husbands old root canal and only noticed it after I pointed it out to him on the film. Mistakes happen but that really made us uneasy because I am no professional and he was given another chance to notice it by me asking, "Are you sure everything looks okay on there?" It was only after I got up to point out the spot that he admitted he made a mistake and missed it. But what was really unacceptable to us was how the doc/office handled our daughters need for a filling. We had it in our file for years that our family only gets white composite fillings, not silver (mainly because of our health concerns with mercury and potential vapors being released). When I went up to make her appt for the filling, they advised me for the first time that because of our insurance, they would only place silver amalgam unless I wanted to pay out of pocket for the white. They said our insurance only covers silver. I went home and called her insurance directly and they said no, they cover white fillings and offered to give me that benefit coverage in writing. Went back to Brady Dental and gave them this info and it was then that the truth came out, the insurance does cover white but because the reimbursement rate is so low they have chosen to only do silver unless the patient wants to pay out of pocket for white. That just felt wrong. It felt like discrimination and a way to double dip by using up insurance benefits for all the easy coverage stuff like exams, x-rays and cleanings but then embarrass patients into paying out of pocket for things like white fillings when it's already a covered benefit under the insurance! I found out later that other dental offices handle this situation differently, they know the reimbursement rate is low but still place the white and carry on, maybe taking a loss or cutting even but understanding the overall bigger picture of keeping the dentist-patient relationship and with their ongoing dental care needs they know they are still going to make money, they just limit the amount of patients they take on I guess. The way I see it is when Brady Dental applied and got approved with the insurance company, they agreed to their terms and rates. It was our right to receive the covered benefit and have the white placed, not for them to dictate the material they wanted to use that better aligned with them financially at the expense of my daughters health, otherwise the right thing to do is if you as an office don't agree with the reimbursement rates or you feel your office is suffering financially by accepting these patients or this insurance, then by all means you should just stop accepting it and advise your patients of this in advance so there are no hard feelings. **My Reply to Brady Dental's response below: What are you talking about – Medicaid? You are clearly confusing us with another family, that isn't even our insurance carrier! I asked for an appointment. They asked what kind of insurance I had. I told them and they asked what I need seen for. I explained about my issue. Then they asked where I worked and as soon as I told them they said someone was out sick and the other person was booked up. They told me to go some place else or call emergency dental. I told her I was looking for a fulltime dentist. I was not offered an appointment at all, that was all I wanted. I feel like she was rude to me on the phone. I'm sorry you were sick, I would have gladly wait but this option was not offered to me. I worked in a medical clinic and would have been fired if I told a patient to go somewhere else. I found a different dentist who went out of their way to help me set up an appointment in a few weeks. They were super pleasant, what a difference!Mary Briggs

I have been going to Brady Dental Care since I was 4 years old, first to Dr. Kent and now to his son, Dr. Corbin, whom my entire family sees, along with Dr. Lysne on occasion. They are truly the kindest and most compassionate people. Their entire staff is wonderful and they all do a great job of making people feel comfortable and heard. 02.22.22-the Optimal Health Chiropractic staff are very helpful, kind and knowledgeable. Had another great visit yesterday!!! I am continuing to live pain free!! I have been so appreciative and pleased with the care I have received over the past year. I have gone from barely being able to move at the beginning of my care to moving freely including up and down stairs!!! This is the best place i have received care!!! Another visit at Optimal Health Chiropractic today. I continue to visit and keep my chiropractic care going to stay aligned and allow my body to function and heal at it's best. Dr Taylor has been adjusting at Optimal Health for a number of months now. He does an excellent adjustment for me. He is kind and cares how you're coming along. I fell a week ago or so and have been to visit a little more often as Dr Taylor adjusted a few things since I fell down. He is just so thorough. I am moving great. I have had a great experience visiting Optimal Health Chiropractic. The gals at the desk are friendly and kind, Dr Taylor does a wonderful job adjusting me. He is a wealth of knowledge when I have so many questions about my adjustments. Dr Ole is still there, it is a pleasure to see him around when I visit. I have had knee pain for several months, so I jumped on the chance to lessen my pain for just $49 when I saw the Optimal Health special advertised on Facebook. I was skeptical when I went there, but I thought it couldn't hurt for that price. They did 2 different types of treatment, the first of which afterwards I felt no difference. After the 2nd one, I felt very little pain when I stood up. A week later, I'm still not having much pain in my knee. I have one more different type of treatment left to do, which I will have done in another week. This is also included in the special price. I'm very optimistic this time. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They explained in detail everything that was going on, and made sure I was comfortable. The folks at optimal health chiropractic are the best! I’ve been extremely busy and have not been able to be seen there in quite some time. When I returned today they remembered me by my name, and treated me like family. On top of that I was able to get the proper adjustments to put me back on track. I suffer from asthma and this season is particularly rough. I was able to not only get an adjustment, but also a sinus treatment. Highly recommend Dr. Ole! What can I say . My son 6 years old jumped off his bed half way knocked out his two front teeth. After hysterically leaving Blank Children’s finding a pediatric emergency dentist was no easy task. Can I say I will always refer friends and family to this place. How awesome that these two ladies took care of my baby and he was so comfortable and not in any pain. Dentist and dental assistants are very pleasant and my kids love it. The problem is with the receptionists who I met this day. I felt they handled me as if I am stupid and cannot make a decision for my child when I tried to decline x-ray. There is a difference between educating and pushing and I definitely felt pushed to accept the x-ray.Lucy Nyamu

The staff are so friendly and the facility is spotless! My daughter had to have two teeth pulled and didn't even shed a tear. Process was very quick/painless and she loved being able to pick a prize at the end.
