20 Best Paramedic Programs In Washington, DC (2022 Updated)

Word of advice: try and transfer out of this ghetto school as soon as possible. It'll save you the headache. TAKE ONLINE CLASSES! That way, you will not have to deal with their crap. The only good thing you'll find about this school is the cheap tuition, some good professors if you can find the right ones. So far, I managed to have good ones. And a few nice students along the way. But the unprofessional, unorganized with the admins, staff, etc is a nightmare. I'm speaking from experience with the financial aid and trying to sign up for classes. They act like they don't know what they're doing. Not to mention, you try to be friendly and they give you attitude like you did something wrong. Plus, the staff and admins are incredibly immature and straight up bullies. When you ask for help, they will act irritated, rude or expect you to it yourself. You know that you are going to be around students all day long, and if that is something you cannot handle or deliver civil professionalism, then why are you working here to begin with? Oh yeah, because they just hire anybody, and just hungry for a paycheck. Oh and also, people just tell you different answers or just straight up lie to you. If I had the choice, I would not spend another semester here for another minute. They really need to do something about this ghetto, unprofessional, unorganized, low class school and hire better admins, staff, etc too. I'll be so glad when I'm able to leave this school because I will not miss it. I'm sticking to my statement that Virginia schools are better. Also, another thing to add is that the advisers do not know how to do their jobs! They are just there for the title, so know what YOU want and YOUR plan, because these advisers will just tell you anything. In addition, they will act so conceited to make you look stupid. That's why I'm going with my own plan, and I can't wait to leave this school in the spring of 2018. It has been nothing but very poor. They just want your money. This school is nothing but a joke. I hated this college including all staffs, administration and president of this college I had many issues with back when I was attending this college. Yes, I graduated in 2004, made very high grades and achieve my goals, but the President of this college did nothing about my situation. She failed to do her job claiming that she will not bar a student for harassing me. She is very lucky I did not sue her before I graduated. Other people has complained about allowing non-visitors attending to this school for no reason. This brings a major concern about safety. I would advise no one attend to this school. It sure has very poor administration. I do not care what that president said, she is a very poor administrator. I wonder why there are so many bad reviews about this school. It's not as bad as I thought or as I read. Yes, I did have a bad impression at first because I was supposed to take four courses, now I'm taking three because of their carelessness. But that's the only problem I've encountered here. I applied here and got in but communicating with my admissions counselor was very difficult. I asked her several times about financial aid and if I would receive any. When I DID get a hold of her she just told me that she's been very busy and to call back later. Which I did, she did not answer, and instead of answering my question she left me and my high school counselor a voice mail asking us to call her once again later. While the food was descent, the service was so so. Once the cashier finally paid attention to us and we were able to order, she was very friendly. The most terrible school I have ever been to. Both the main campus and the Community college are the same. A lot of slow, unprofessional, and rude staff who keep yelling at students when they are not even doing their jobs properly. I submitted a certain paper to the Financial Aid office and they told me they lost the paper after weeks that I had to pay about $1700 out of pocket. During the 2020 Pandemic, I tried to contact them as I was having difficulty to waive the Student Insurance that is provided through the school because I already had an insurance coverage; no one answered my call until it was due. And now Miss Gaskon told me that I have to pay about $1300 for the coverage I never needed. Mis Gascon was there in 2018/19 when I had the same issue; she helped me waive it then. I could not go to her office in 2020 be a of Covid restrictions. I tried to solve the issue communicating with them but nothing got better yet. I would not recommend anyone to go the UDC unless one needs a headache. I cannot deny that there are some great Professors such as Prof. Sonnie Abebaku. However, individuals are very helpful to us, it’s overall experience at the university that makes a difference in our academic lives. So far, my overall experience is just TERRIBLE!Henok D

Worst administration I have ever had to deal with. Not only do they never respond to email or phone calls, they can't even keep track of ELECTRONIC applications, that required my daughter to submit 3 times and be forced enrolled late into classes due to their incompetence. But they also can't even have the literacy to read the applications correctly to charge the correct rate to students. They went ahead to charge not only my daughter but several other students out-of-state resident rates when all their applications illustrated DC residents. Like how can you not even read what's on the applications! How many other students were charged nearly 3 times when they should have been charged as a DC residents scares me on the level of corruption and neglect this body demonstrates to it's it's attendees.0 Then to not even have the decency and competence to even respond to emails and calls to try to correct this is just completely absurd, no wonder UDC is a laughing stock of a school to attend they can't even serve as a place to get extra credits for actual schools. Okay So I applied about 3weeks to a month ago and I’ve yet to receive any papers informing me if I was missing any documents or etc. I’ve called at least 5 times a day for about two weeks straight leaving voicemail after voicemail and no one has yet to return my call not only did I call multiple times I have also emailed them multiple and no response. It’s ridiculous what’s the point of having an admissions office if they not even going to pick up the phone, guide you in the process of being admitted or anything else like you guys get paid to do nothing it’s sad.Jamilya Allen

As my company's Safety Coordinator, I set up a full company CPR and AED training session. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Amer throughout the process; the set up and scheduling was made extremely easy all the way through to receiving our certifications. Amer is a very knowledgeable trainer with lots of hands on experience which shows in his training sessions. He also brings an engaging high energy approach to the training session which keeps the team engaged throughout the session and they walk away with a better understanding of how to use CPR in a real world scenario. This was a great school because it was way much better than Prince George's Community College. The problems are that the Dance Department is not very organized, have professors that are terrible teachers of teaching the Dance Ensemble and Ballet Dance courses. Plus, they do not offer contemporary, hip hop and tap dance, which is needed. There are also poor administrations in the Dance Department that needs improvement. Plus, some of the students including the teachers try to bullied me on social media, but I do not tolerated because I am too rigid for that. But at least I graduated in 2012 with a 3.80 grade point average and receive my Associate's Degree in Theatre and Dance. Now, I can move forward, move to another state to pursue my dreams including doing my dance careers, operating a better, successful dance company than College of Southern Maryland and other dance companies I had issues with in the past, get married, start a family and live a healthy long life. I would highly recommended students to attend to this college, but not get a degree in Theatre and Dance. If you want to get a degree in Theatre and Dance, go to Towson University because their dance department is much friendlier than College of Southern Maryland Dance Department. CSM is a corrupt academic organization that has an incompetent Bursar's office. We tried to drop a class within the deadline and were unable to due to multiple system errors. After multiple phone calls we were told to call back the next day and that all would be well. We did and were told all was taken care of. One month later we receive a letter saying we are denied our refund with no explanation. Multiple calls and emails to the Bursar's office go nowhere. Very unfortunate for such a small academic institution to build their Bursar's office on dishonesty, lack of integrity and lousy customer service. Be warned that they are unorganized and incompetent and it will require numerous phone calls to achieve absolutely nothing. A totally disgraceful office.Alex E

If you want to get a refund or drop a class due to a reason not listed in the involuntary withdrawal policy, such as a bad teacher (I recommend checking rate your professor before registering for classes) then it won’t happen. You will have to do so within the first week of a semester. The teacher definitely has good influence on whether or not you pass or fail regardless of the material. Math classes should be online since most of the material learned is as such. You cannot apply as an independent student on fasfa If you don’t have a kid, are in the military, married, under 24 or other various reasons. So forget about fasfa even though it’s cheaper than a university.Victoria Powers

When we bought our house on Augusta Lane, a big selling point was the proximity of the Glen Echo Fire Department. That was in 1971 now forty-three years later we had to call on the services of the Fire Department. This morning, I was putting out the trash and slipped and fell on wet paving stones. I was not hurt, other than my pride! However, such was the location I fell in and the fact that the stones were very slippery, that I simply could not get myself up. My wife, was unable ti right me and called the Fire Department for non-emergency help and within a very few minutes Tom and Ariel from the Glen Echo Fire Department were there to help me back on my feet. I am fortunate that, other than a couple of bruises, I was not hurt. I was also fortunate in the speedy response from the Glen Echo Fire Department and the sure hands of Tom and Ariel. 911 Programs failed me to succeed in the field that I trained and tested for when active. My perception of this program, they’re only interested in helping those that they like. And, in light of assistance I received from the state while training for Phlebotomy I was not considered as someone whom was in need of a career under their watch. However, I finished at the top of my class on skills and testing results. After obtaining my certificate/license in Phlebotomy, eights years later still without work and eventually was forced to abandon my certificate/license as the renewal fee became a burden. They do not properly train you for a career, they do not help you find a job and if you criticize them or tell the truth about your terrible experience with them they accuse you of being a person that didn’t go there with a fake account and running a smear campaign on them! I had a friend stop in there to get brochures/information since I am in the process of moving back to RI and was interested in one of there programs….he was told they have no paper information to call and leave a message! Honestly, I enjoyed my time. My biggest grievance was that the Disability Support Services didn't specifically target any particular disability. They offered "support" that was not particularly useful for my mathematical disability. Besides that, I met so many great professors who were inspirations for me. The events available to participate in were fun too. I liked Visiting Rep Stage up until that Joseph Ritsch said something offensive to me. Besides that, I felt that Howard Community College provided me with an opportunity to meet new people, enjoy great food, and I guess expand my horizons. Despite the many personal struggles I faced at this community college, I am glad that some professors were understanding and actually took the time to explain things thoroughly to me so that I would not fail. Overall, HCC is a good place to begin ones journey towards a higher education!Nigel Young

Not your average community college, it feels like it could be a private university if they added some dorms and I love the architecture, its very modern. I love it here all of my professors have been great. Most people on the reviews are unhappy about the school's tuition prices. I honestly don't have much knowledge about price within the U.S higher education system (was on a full financial aid) but, apart from the price topic NOVA is a great school! First the quality of education is top notch. Second almost all the professors and advisors I've worked with were very supportive and caring for students' success. Third as long as you made the most use of them NOVA's got plenty of free and available state of the art high quality resources to help students succeed and have a great college experience. Library, tutoring centers, labs, open computer labs, student life, clubs, bookstores, cafes, lounges, etc, and even internship career connections! On top of all that you get to transfer to any four year college of your choice while holding an associate degree or some certificate which comes as beneficial for your internship or part time job. NOVA's campus environment and physical area is equivalent to a university. It's a wonderful school for a community college! This is by far one of the worst community colleges in the nation. Not so specific to location as I’ve attended Annandale, Alexandria, and Woodbridge and they were all inadequate and unacceptable. I have had a few good professors but overall the advisor office is terrible but I don’t really blame the advisors. It’s mostly higher ups that are to blame for the subpar conditions. And lastly if you’re planning on taking courses part time and working part time just don’t do it because they retire their classes way too early and update the descriptions so that it’s virtually impossible to attain or even let alone sustain a degree from here. I registered for a class online and the portal said I would be dropped if it wasn’t paid by the cutoff date. Then I wasn’t contacted until months later when I am being threatened to pay or it will be sent to collections. I never attended, never got any coursework, nothing. No one ever gets back to you, and you have to login to their portal (which is confusing as heck and need multiple accounts and information) to read their emails, and you’re still somehow on the hook for classes you never received coursework or communicated with a professor ever. The worst university ever, my experience at this university has been draining and miserable. Some off the professor are rude and highly unprofessional. I had one professor a couple off years ago name Samuel Walters tell me that he doesn't have to respond to my emails, and if I reported him they wouldn't even listen to me. I will never forget that, it was odd to me as well because, other professors' I had encouraged students to email, and come in during office hours for assistance. I reported this to the dean, and she told me that professors' are not obligated to respond to students' emails. I couldn't believe it, in addition I wrote the president off the school who is a joke in my opinion, and he never responded. Anything, goes at this University. I blame myself, for returning to this school I was told things have changed, and it has not. Different departments loose papers, I had turn in my vaccine exemption forms August 02, 2021 and was told it was never received. When, I inquired about the documents again, the representative had told me they forgot to submit the documents to another department. But, by then I was already dropped from my courses. At this point, I said forget it, I am glad I transferred to another University that's extremely professional, the transition was great. The staff are rude as well, I remember almost getting cursed out by a lady in the student health department, because I simply asked if my health waiver was received, she was so rude. I honestly, despise this University. Returning, to this University as a readmit student was not worth it, it's beyond me because, UDC reached out to me to come back this past summer and it's still a joke. The women bathrooms, are a joke it's been like that since I started a couple off years ago. Some, off the doors don't lock, the library needs to be remodeled. I remember part off the ceilings in one bathroom was completely missing. Elevators were not working, and some parts off the building were not cleaned, the math tutoring lab couple off years ago was, leaking and ceiling was completely gone. I believe, some individuals work at this University because they can display their dispicable disposition. It really, amazes that the student center is appealing. I agree that administrative work is little slow but when it comes to education and professors, I would say they are really great, knowledgeable, kind and caring. They always try to help you to learn and never let you down. They always support brilliant students in the class and on the other hand they never abandon weak students too. Some people complain that school building architecture is ugly but just keep in mind the UDC construction completion dated back to 1851. Stayed here in the summer of 2005 for my internship in Washington DC and the experience was absolutely fabulous with the dining halls and the gym being my favorites. No complaints at all and excellent customer service from the residence hall staff. I sometimes wish I studied Accounting at this university than at the one I studied at. Courses are not that challenged compare to some other higher ranking schools and that probably explains why graduates don't get the best careers, you get what you work for. The special education is the worst when children have 501 plans and they have slow learning disabilities and also they have behavior issues they're excluded from other activities and also they consider children as being absent everyday when they are still coming to school the school has the worst quality in the world when I say if your here your child is here she is still considered absent The teachers hold grudges they are not professional at all their tolerance is very low they tell you that your child is being defiant calls you constantly when you have a 504 plan and that implements a whole lot the behavioral specialist worst some of the teachers hold so many grudges that if they don't get along with the parents they will fail the children. Since I'm not a student here, I cannot speak to the academics or school culture, but as a neighbor, I can speak to the location, building, and campus. Eastern High School is a beautiful building on Capitol Hill East just a few blocks from the Stadium-Armory Metro Station. Behind its historic building is a football field that is open to the public to work out in when school is not in session. During the summer, I wake up at 6AM and watch the sun rise over the football field as I do my work out on the perfectly even grass and run a few laps around the track. Core classes are challenging, with lots of projects and several trips off campus. There are many electives/activities/clubs/sports to choose from (moot court, AP psyc), staff is wonderful, location is great, active parent population. Band is amazing. This is a beautiful campus. Most of it is locked down due to the covid-19 pandemic. At the moment, it is a mass vaccination site for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. For a fascinating landmark, the Earthoid (Water tank Globe) is impressive to see and there's a tropical depression permanently on its way to Florida, painted on it. With the radio tower in the background, the Earthoid layout is reminiscent of the 1939 New York World Fair's Trylon and Perisphere layout. Definitely a site worth traveling to the faculty parking lot by building #4607 to see, despite the water tower being off limits to the public as it is still a functioning structure. 😃👍The Dan Rogul

Clean and comfortable. We arrived late at night after a long, hard, wet, dark drive through hilly Pennsylvania. Front desk was professional, friendly and courteous. I'm stuck between 2 and 3 stars because I'm not entirely sure how I feel about NOVA. But I will say that for beginners in IT like me with little to no knowledge, as of September 19th, 2017, the IT program is terrible. 1. My experience was pretty miserable. With the online classes, students are left to their own devices. Period. You're accountable for everything (which isn't a bad thing). But that's probably what it's like for most online courses at most colleges or universities- but I wouldn't know 2. The staff really is bad. Every. Single. Time. I've called to ask a question, the support was terrible and so forced. I've been hung up on, and treated like an annoyance on almost every single occasion. 3. The financial office is terrible. I called 3 times for information on my tuition and literally got 3 different responses. The last response I received was the correct one. 4. If you are going to NOVA for IT, there's a strong possibility you will struggle. For online courses, the professors aren't recourses. They'll guide you to any and every other place but them. Literally. They're only there to facilitate the course not teach it. You teach yourself. But again, I wouldn't know what it's like at other schools. For physical classes, I sympathize more. The thing about a community college is that many of the professors are new to instructing college students and adults. They're trying to build a foundation and gain experience. My current professor (bless his heart, but I literally just withdrew from the class) was SUCH a nice guy. SO sweet, VERY open and really does want to help the students…..but he doesn't know the information himself! He's in class making mistakes and the students were teaching and correcting him! He was asking THE STUDENTS that knew the information "hey, do you want to teach this one?". Again, such a nice guy, but half the students were teaching him the information. This made me soooo uncomfortable. In my head I'm screaming "what am I paying for if I can't rely on the one who is there to teach me- to teach me?? Can I trust anything he's saying? Why is he teaching this class???". He didn't know the answers to questions asked, and he didn't know the information that was on his own PowerPoint. 5. Theres no hands on tech experience or classes. I repeat, THERE ARE NO HANDS ON TECH CLASSES. My class was a hardware and architecture class but we flashed through power points. No hands on hardware and architecture experience AT ALL. Which is sad and very unfortunate. You would think that for a community college "leading in IT" there would be some hands on experience or lab. I'm sorry, but there's none 🙁 The IT major is terrible for beginners. Unless you have enough of a foundation to get certified, don't do it. If you know enough to get certified, I'd say go for it. It's better for those who know most of the information. But again, for beginners in IT, I'm sorry but you might do better going to a 4 year college for that. I would consider NOVA for general edu classes but definitely not IT. The best class I took was my online communications class. I withdrew from both tech classes I was enrolled in. Online and in person. CONCLUSION: I hope NOVA is trying to do better, and I have faith that their program WILL get better. But right now, I'm sure there are better options out there. I value education too much to settle for less and most of all, I value myself. Again, Their (IT) program is very stressful for beginners. For those of you new to this, research before you go. Review these comments, and compare them to the information and "resources" listed on the school site. Call, call, call, for additional information and resources before you truly commit to NOVA. I'm now reviewing the Tech programs at other colleges and universities and I wish I thought of or knew this before I spent my money but I was so hungry and eager to go back to school. My experience today was similar to my previous appointment for dental hygiene care about 6 months ago. Absolutely first class care delivered by a knowledgeable student overseen by a licensed practitioner at an extraordinary low price including as many revisits as are necessary to complete an initial evaluation the depth and breadth of which I have never seen in any commercial dental practice and follow-up care such as cleaning for scaling with confirmation every step of the way and great respect for patient needs and in particular the need of the patients to slowly absorbed those elements of the experience which will deliver learning resulting in behavioral change and eventually freedom from the need for routine Dental Care or at least a reduction in the frequency of care I have taken some information about my own personal Dental situation out of this review because that would not be appropriate I believe this is a general review and definitely I give them five stars they are reachable by bus by the way $35 for everything you need and you can expect to spend between 3 and 9 hours in the chairDouglas Dana Goncz

as a student who is almost done ill say a few things… my first year in 2013 wasn't good at all i got horrible advice from the pathway lady at the time. which actually wasted a good chunk of my time and money. the teachers were not good at all and i left reviews on rate my professor . com. my second year was better because i didn't listen to that pathway lady and started to see my administrative counselor. and they knew what they were saying and helped me understand more. as the classes went on i learned alot. alot of the teachers are not so good which is why i encourage every student to rate the professors before anything other wise your stuck. i had a rude bio 102 teacher that has an issue with everything even group studies and ill leave her name left out. she can be reviewed on rate my professor. prices are a bit high but it would be better if students could park free print scan copy fax fore free and even lower the priced on food dont suck people dry. its hard to get a job especially now a days. but alot of staff are nice weird but funny students and lots of events hereManahil Chohan

I had an absolutely thrilling experience. Within two minutes of calling GERMS, they showed up promptly and ready to help. Shoutout to Brenda, Jack, and Caitlyn for all their help and conversation. After the immediate response and fun ride to the hospital, I enjoyed talking to them while I waited for a room. They were attentive when handling my symptoms and the situation and acted very professionally on the scene. Couldn’t have asked for a better or funnier group to help me. They are clearly great with patients. In all seriousness, the group that helped me was very professional and efficient. I was grateful for the way they handled the situation (I had an anaphylactic allergic reaction), even though I threw up in their ambulance. So ask for bren-bren, broom-broom, and Jackary, if given the chance. I would definitely recommend 👌Nicole Weber
