20 Best Paramedic Programs In Riverside, CA (2022 Updated)

If you are a Veteran and want to attend this school I recommend you don't. I personally have had multiple issues with communication with the school as well as obtaining an appointment with their one VA counselor. My appointment was made a month and a half out mainly because that specific date was the only day that would work for me. I was suppose to walk in at 4 pm to see the counselor. Mind you I called earlier that day to confirm my appointment, even received an email notification confirming my appointment. They told me they accidentally double booked, but to come in anyways and they will just squeeze me in. Came in at 350 PM checked in the front desk looked confused, I explained the situation and I didn't get seen until 5:45 PM I had a final for speech class at 6 PM. If you decide to take online classes be careful you could end up like me log in and check the course the first day of the semester in this case July 19th 2017 at 8:55 AM and see that there are no notifications or assignments post yet. Log in that Friday still having issues to find out you got dropped that Wednesday for not being active in the course. I logged in that Monday to do the Class work knowing that my other class kept me busy tues, wed, thurs. All just to find out that your email was jacked because of the conversion they did in spring, therefore getting locked from your account. I do not recommend this school or the school district it has only been a constant uphill battle for me and to many stressful occurrences. Attend a Cal State or Cal University.Cody

I have been trying to see a counselor, and so far I have come to the counseling department more than five times. Anytime I went there, they said that there are a lot of students so go come back tomorrow at 8:00 am. When I went there at 8:00 am the next day, they said oh we don't do walk ins, you can go today, but for tomorrow give us a call to confirm if there is any counselor available. I did call them the day before coming they said yes come around 8:00 am you will for sure see a counselor, I got there at 8:00 am, but unfortunately again they said that there are a lot of students and they only have one counselor. I don't know what game do they play with students, I missed going to work for 3 days, and it seems that I might not be able to take any classes this summer just because of not being able to see a counselor. I request the authorities of this nice college to pay attention to this problem, and find some possible ways of solution since the students need to have updated Educationan Plans.Tawfiq Sediqi

This college is a freaking mess and very unorganized!!!! Fist visit, they told me counseling was open until 4:30pm. Got there at 3:34pm and said they stop at 3pm. They told me to come back tomorrow and they will do counseling till 4pm. I got early from work the nex day, and when I get to the counseling office, they said they are not doing counseling today! They tell me to come back tomorrow. They couldn't take appointments because they were too busy that week. I come back the next day, my job let me get off early again, when I get to the counseling they tell me their system is down! They tell me to come back on Saturday for the event. They tell me counseling and student services will be open. I'm here at the counseling at 10am, they freaking tell me no counselors today, they are only taking picture for IDS !!!! This is the worse experience I had. Very unprofessional, not organized!!!! I'm very upset!!!!!Miriam Gal

Worked with Eddie as an instructor and enjoyed coming in to learn about EMS. Once you get into the hang of things, you will start to enjoy coming into the lectures and skills days. 5/5 recommend Eddie and HPEMT as your EMS training location. They work with you along the way through the course and do whatever you need help in to succeed. HealthPro is literally the best place ever! So much hands on work & the environment is great. The teachers are amazing and very helpful and don’t mind taking time to stay after class to help. My instructor was Eddie, he was the real deal. He tells stories , and gives details on what it’s going to truly be like out there. Best CPR class. I have had. It was given by a Firefighter named David. It was the most interactive, engaging and funny CPR class I have been to. He made the students feel comfortable to ask questions and consistently asked if we had any questions before we moved on. He made me realize what a serious and important skill this was and made sure we all did it right like it was 2nd nature. I want to send my son's dad in next, because he made it fun and important. Instructor Eric made the course very interesting and I enjoyed it because it was not boring at all. He taught us not only the AHA information, but also added real life experiences and things to remember when we're actually at a scene. First- Shout Outs to some incredible instructors who are NOT there to fail you or to demean you. Sam- Class Instructor was PHENOMENAL! She constantly responded to emails, she is able to take the most complicated concept and break it down for you to understand it. I requested a lot of clarifications and was able to study with here one on one on an off day. Her commitment to a student who puts 100% in is unparalleled. Shout outs to the skills instructors Dan(This old salt who had a really big heart and YEARS of knowledge) RJ and Sarah (both Compassionate and Dedicated to ensuring you understand, def mood lifters). While I should take the time to state that the program could be improved if a Guide on the Skills was given to each student instead of each student writing it down themselves- this would ensure continuity across the Skills Instructors; it should be noted the Skills Instructors we’re aware of these issues and were more worried about the student understanding the major concepts to be prepared for the real world and NREMT exam/test. (Example: One instructor stated to wrap the thumbs togeather whereas another instructor told us not too) The FULLTIME program itself: a ROUGH INTENSE 5 weeks. Its actuality 4 weeks of class with the 5th week consisting of tests. (150 Multiple Choice Final and a Skills Practical) Class started at 0800 M,T,W, TH. It ended around 1600 everyday (some days going to 1700) with an hour for lunch. They do NOT go over every chapter in the Orange book. You are expected to read Chapters by yourself. By biggest recommendation is to Read Chapter 1-6 (or more!) before taking the course. I had to email Matt as this information was NOT put out ahead of time. I would recommend to read and annotate in the book as opposed to taking notes as you will be taking notes in class about the chapters. Note that Wednesday’s are Skills days and are half day. Groups of 6-8 will learn skills togeather. All of your paperwork isn’t due until the end of the last week, but get it all done before class starts. The three days you have “off” are chockerblocked with filling out Study Guides, Sign and Symptoms Notebook, and Reading the Book. (Each chapter takes about 1-2 hours to read). Do not expect to have any down time or time off. I didn’t do anything but this course for the entire 5 weeks. It was mentally exhausting. (I had a cheat afternoon every week on Friday or Saturday where I would hang with friends) We started with 40 and ended with 32 because many students didn’t realize the time commitment or intensity of the course. In addition, the tests are pretty hard. The Midterm and Final pull from the Orange Book- but it can be anything that has been discussed. Studying is a MUST. I’d recommend putting the S/S in a Xcel file btw! Last but not least: the Facilities are lacking any type of water machine and for the 5 weeks I was there, the refrigerator at the Anahaiem campus has black mold in it and the vending machines did not work properly. Being a water bottle! The bathrooms and classroom are wicked nice though! There is a bunch of teaching aids that are in good condition as well 🙂 Overall: I am very happy with my investment with time and money. I can’t thank the instructors enough! But the program could be Improved through standardized Skills Guides for the student, a Water Machine for the Campus, and alerting students to read at least two weeks in advance for the course.D. Would give West Coast EMT a five star rating but they lost my papers at the beginning and made me return them in. Not a huge deal but I couldn’t get my ride alongs done before the course is over. As for the instructors, Toby was the best and I loved having class with him. Bittersweet “graduation” at the end! In terms of class, it was difficult. 18 out of the original 52 passed. With that being said, I feel as if you really devote time and effort to it you will be fine. I studied for about 18 hours a week (3 hours for 6 days) and I passed with no issues. Whoever is at the front desk most of the time was always rude to everyone I saw come through. She was not very helping and overall I just avoided her. In the end, I would probably take WCEMT again if I had to start over (ESPECIALLY if I was going to have Toby!) We had Sam as a sub one day and she was also great. I cannot speak for other courses such as ProTech but this was my experience at WCEMT. If YOU are taking it heres what you need to do: 1) Study Study Study 2) Use your online resources (quizlet is great) 3) Show up to class, give it your all 4) Dont quit!! I took the full-time EMT course here 2 years ago with Kyle and then recently completed my refresher course with Dana. Both instructors are very qualified, helpful, kind, and good communicators who taught the class thoroughly and efficiently. If you are interested in joining a class, here is something to keep in mind: EMT classes are DIFFICULT. They are much more challenging if you choose to take it full time like I did since there is so much new information you need to know in a shorter period of time. That being said, it is likely you will not pass if you are not fully committed to studying everyday and learning the skills. You will be given everything you need to know in class but it is ultimately up to you to thoroughly understand it and commit it to memory. West Coast EMT has a very friendly and helpful staff that will offer a lot of tips and guidance if you ask for additional help. Instructors here truly want you to succeed and do everything in their power to assure that. I have also found the student community to be wonderful and supportive so I recommend starting study groups and building relationships with your fellow future EMTs.Gwen Dahncke

This course is awesome! I just took their EMT 24 hour recertification class that takes place over 4 condensed days. The main instructor is really experienced, respectful and very competent. All of the skill instructors are hard-working and very helpful. I got all of the hours, testing and sign offs I needed to keep practicing in CA. EVERYTHING is confusing! -Register online- oh but not on your tablet or cell phone, and you won't know till to keep calling 50 times since there's no error online. -Can't register if you don't have counseling…oh but you can't get a counselor until far after registration is due and school starts -Slow response if any, nobody answers phones and email responses are weeks away. -can't buy parking permit until school starts! How dumb is that! You can't buy it up front and then surprise….you have a ticket now! You have to rush to buy it afterwards. -All procedures are disorganized horribly. -Signs on campus says viator parking but then small letters by permit only. -Refunds! The newer buildings look great and the schooling is significantly more affordable than university. Any time I've needed help staff have been friendly and generally accommodating. Unfortunately the roads are terrible and all the walkways are cracked badly. Even "wheelchair accessible " ramps and pathways are terribly jagged and dangerous if you are clumsy like me or genuinely disabled. Riverside city college was known as a riverside community college in the 1960s but was renamed in 2008. This is one of the best schools in California. The school took advantage of the newest educational facility which gives it an edge over other schools. It was established far back as 1916, it has given birth to a lot of great men and women. Best food I’ve ever tasted compared to most places. And the food is made by students! They sell this food for dirt cheap for such high quality food and the portions are HUUUUGE you might end up full and take your food to go 😅.They have very nice people in there that serve you. This is a good course if you plan on majoring culinary or want some very good cooking skills while also getting a lot of units for your degrees! It’s always worth coming to this place and I’m always going to this place for lunch and NOWHERE ELSE!JP

The RCC Culinary academy is a great place to being an education in cooking. The students often compete region wide and win, which goes to show for their driving force. On the other side, students are tasked to make the menus and run the actual restaurant daily. Great food and great service come together with fair priced meals that, so I'm good, change week over week. Don't knock the establishment just because of the less than desirable location. This place is so fantastic for lunch and breakfast. I wish the open times were longer. The best eggs Benedict I have ever had. The service can be rough at time, but the food is always outstanding. The price is dirt cheap. The quality of food is insane. I wish I had 10 stars. Everything is top-notch. One thing to note, you will need a vaccination card for dine in. What an amazing place. First and foremost I was able to pass the NREMT within a week of finishing the (accelerated) course. That's ~3 months to become a certified EMT with no background. Secondly, everyone here was extremely professional, patient, and skilled. No BS but also no arrogance. The rotating instructors were super helpful to understand EMS from different perspectives (fire, hospital, ambulance etc.) and always came across as being highly competent even when they weren't trying. Kim and Greg and the rest of the folks running the place are friendly and honest and just great people. I'd say the course focused more on practical and hands-on parts of EMS (skills, demeanor, patient care etc.) then anatomy/physiology, which is exactly what I wanted (there was enough anat/phys to pass the NREMT, also the textbook is handy for additional study). Beyond the in-class days (Mon-Thurs 6-10ppm) I dedicated most of Sunday to the class and was able to pass without a problem. Lastly, they ran an amazing course during a pandemic, and I never felt it was watered down nor felt unnecessarily exposed, which itself is an accomplishment. An excellent EMT course- a lot of work, so be prepared to work- it is worth it and such an accomplishment! Tyler is an extremely effective teacher and would always go out of his way to help us understand any and all information. His practical skills instructors of EMT's and Paramedics were very supportive and focused on being sure that we all became effective and proficient clinicians in the field. The entire staff, Kim in the front office included, continued their support throughout the class. The two internships were eye-opening and a great experience. I was amazed as to how the information, skills and constant practice kept building throughout the course making me more confident each and every week. I felt totally prepared for the final exam and the National Registry Exam by the end of the course. Be aware This is a Rush course if you haven’t been in school in over 10 years like me u will not pass this class I had no background of anatomy & physiology so I dropped out after 6 weeks enrolling in a community college we’re I can learn without being in a rush, I give them 3 stars because the owners of this school don’t care if you pass or fail they only care about your money this 10 week course use to be 13 weeks and they made it shorter to make more money throughout the year the instructors let u go home early most of the time and tell u to go on you tube and finish the chapters lol lesson learned.Patty D

I took the part-time EMT course at the beginning of the year and I absolutely loved it. It is intense, especially if you got other things on your plate (I definitely did) and it gets really hard to balance things out. But I do have to say that the structure of the course, classmates, and instructors had made it very possible. I am especially thankful that I had the opportunity to learn and train under an inspiring, caring, and an overall amazing instructor like Shaun. His encouragement played a big role in pushing each one of us to work harder and he always had ways to engage us and prepare us better for exams. As long as you really invest time and effort into learning the material and even go out of your way at times, you will succeed. Went to West Coast EMT in Riverside about a month ago. Program is accelerated, so you should prepare before you come into class. There is a lot of students who think it will be easy since it’s accelerated and they don’t put much time into studying. The primary instructor Shaun H was wonderful. He made the class fun, he went into great detail with his lectures and he also held each and every student accountable for their time in class. Lindsay, the office manager was also very helpful. Both Lindsay and Shaun get two thumbs up . Thank you West Coast EMT, I passed National Registry at 70 questions and so did most of my friends in the class.Christina Cortez

I’m only giving this two stars because I had a really (Kyle Matthews) good instructor. But overall the experience was very bad. We had no skills instructors so we had re-attending students teaching us skills training. Also they are never clear about any information so if you have an issue, trying to contact them make sure you send 5 to 6 emails and phone calls. But if you planning on taking this course I recommend that, you take the DAYTIME classes! They don’t seem to care about the night courses. But overall I just feel like the school is just a cash grab. This is by far the best EMT school around. Trust me, I know. I unfortunately attended a different school before going to Pro-Tech. That other school was non stop power point reading for the entire class with minimal hands on skills. Pro-Tech on the other hand, is hands on and interactive with their lectures. I can't begin to express how awesome Brad, Daniel and Glenn are. They do everything in their power to make sure you are retaining and understanding the information they are giving you. The skills at this school are also taught by Care and their training officers. The instructors over at Care go above and beyond for Pro-Tech students. I cannot recommend this school enough!. I am a working mom who's a little older, and I needed an education that was thorough and concise – and that's what I got at Pro-tech. The accelerated course clips along, and if your ready to put work into learning (like anyone should do when learning to SAVE LIVES!) then Pro-tech will get you prepared – both for the NREMT exam and for the real world experience! The instructors are VERY knowledgeable, ready to share their extensive experience and are full of love and compassion for their students. Pro-tech is such an amazing class. The teachers are absolutely incredible and truly want to see you succeed. There was never an awkward time in this class, only laughs and hard work because of the great environment Pro-Tech enables. I took an EMT course elsewhere before Pro-Tech and failed the NREMT 3 times, I took the accelerated class at Pro-Tech and passed the NREMT first try. One of the best EMT courses out there. I completed the Tues/Thurs evening course from Jan 2022 to March 2022 at the Redondo Beach campus. I had to balance a full-time engineering job along with this evening course. I knew if I wanted to succeed, I had to stay engaged and ask questions. I believe anyone can pass this class if you're fully committed to it. This means reading and practicing. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to stay caught up. Redondo campus has some outstanding instructors. Andrew Frank lectured on Tuesdays. He spoke clearly and answered all questions stemming from his extensive experience as a Medic/Nurse. Manny Eskander lectured on Thursdays. He is a Pre-Med and EMT instructor. Both are highly knowledgeable and will teach you everything you need to know to succeed and be ready for the job. Andrew Frank had to lecture in Anaheim for the remaining weeks of our class due to staffing which allowed Manny to fill in the rest in Redondo. He simplified lectures and taught us to think critically during patient assessment situations. He is a future doctor and will be a very great one at that. You need to practice your hands-on psychomotor skills. Manny and skills instructor Angelina did a great job teaching us the skills which ultimately lead to us succeeding in this course. I recommend taking the National Registry as soon as possible upon course completion. I passed the NREMT on my first try with plenty of time to spare. Thank you West Coast EMT!Michael Ursic

I want to start off by saying that I absolutely loved this course! I enrolled in the 5- week program and had Jayson as my instructor. He is an amazing teacher and made learning the material so much fun. This was a plus because his style of teaching made the days fly. Jayson was open to any question that we had and he even stayed after class for anyone who wanted additional help. I felt well prepared for both my ride alongs because he exposed us to skills every day and encouraged us to become comfortable with the procedures that we will face in the field. I was a full-time EMT student here in February/March 2020. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with West Coast EMT. Kent was an awesome instructor that kept us engaged and smiling through lectures and hands-on skills sessions. He took the material seriously but had a down-to-earth, understanding attitude that was very receptive to questions (no such thing as a stupid question). Shout-out to Emily the administrator who posted our grades super fast as well! The class covered a TON of material, so there's not really any "off" time outside of class. One of the trainer's recently shot a student… Experts, really? My 5 year old knows not to point a gun at people and to keep her finger off the trigger. EDIT: Since they're now claiming they don't know what I'm talking about here's more information from a news article "On Aug. 10, the man, identified only as a civilian, was participating in a course at the Ben Clark Training Center's gun range in Riverside. According to a department news release issued in response to questions from The Desert Sun, gun range staff inspect students' firearms during the course and students are instructed to unload their guns. During the inspection, the range staff member — a civilian instructor the department did not identify — administered a "trigger pull test" and shot the student in the leg. Displeased. Was told that I was an incompetent EMT despite having worked on an ambulance and currently at a hospital for going on 6+ years. The sign off was very similar to when I first attained my license as far as anxiety goes which I had entirely forgot felt like. Proctor was on his phone very unprofessional. I've trained numerous EMTs while working on the units and half of them became FTOs for the company shortly after I left. What lead me to write this review wasnt the fact that I was out 75$, but the audacity of the person whom I assume over saw the program stating that she watched me struggle through all my skills while my initial proctor applauded how well I went though them with the exception of obgyn and ked. * did not have a manniquen or actually patient for me to place the device. Some people are visual learners hence the fail/ incorrect strap order. Deeply consider coming here for emt remediation though if your new to the field and need to start from scratch, they may help as far as prepping you for a fire academy or military like career mindset. Worst EMT course ever. They lost their license because they misrepresented their qualifications while I was taking the class. All of my work was lost, but they didn't tell me what was going on, so I finished up all requirements only to have to completely re-take the class (with another class provider of course). They continue to lie in their response to this review – do not be fooled. The "required deadlines" that I missed where about 6 months before the deadlines that stated when I enrolled in the course, and they told me about three weeks before the new "required deadline" that it existed.Nessarose Schear

I called SoCal EMT/Fire Training as I am trying to determine how to recertify my lapsed EMT-B and I was blown away by how helpful Kim was. I just missed the refresher course meaning I wouldn’t be taking it with them yet she still took a good 15 minutes to explain the entire recertification process. She saved me in so many ways with the tips she had. If the rest of the staff is anything like Kim, I would highly recommend choosing this company. The curriculum made no sense. The teachers are honestly extremely unprofessional. They skip through lessons, don’t tell you directly what to study, and they just end class early because they are tired. Let me start this review out by saying this class will not be easy especially if you take the 5 week course. This course is something you have to be fully engaged in or your going to fail. Now for the instructors they' re all amazing. Matt if he is your lecturer its going to be a very stressful class he will go through and ask the class questions to keep you engaged. By the end of the class for the day you will be happy the class is over and you can relax but you will also have an amazing grasp on the subject he was teaching. Adam another one of there lecturers. He's great he is always willing to answer questions you might have. My two problems is that he skips through some information. As well as hes just not Matt. Now for the skills instructors listen. Nicole one of my favorite skills instructors will make you keep doing the skills until you have them down. She the perfect level of hard ass who cares about her students. A few tips for the class -form a study group -Note cards -record your lectures -PRACTICE YOUR SKILLS -don't be afraid to ask for help on a concept you don't understand -Learn the pathophysiology -Learn terms or Matt will be on you So in conclusion if you thinking about taking this class make sure your prepared to put in the effort needed to pass the class day 1 they will explain what you need to do to pass. Also know when or if you make it through the class your gonna know your stuff. there pass rate on the nremt is so good because by the end of the class the information will become second nature. As of writing this post I have passes the class, Nremt, and have 2 interviews with an ambulance company, and Fire department. This class is not easy but if you take the time and effort it takes to pass the class you will be a good EMT.Genevieve Sowers

I didn't think I would need to read reviews or even write one because I assumed formal training should be the same regardless of who you take it from. The first impression was somewhat bad already because the program coordinator needed to boast about its success as if he's trying to sell something. He boasted about how the passing rate for his program is 90% compared to others around 60%; however, in my class, 24 students signed up but less than 16 completed it. I'm giving it 2-stars instead of 1 because your daily instructors themselves were good, but unfortunately, they have no say on how the program runs. I'm sure that the program coordinator is a decent person outside of work, but my honest opinion is that the management needs a new approach towards the students. If you look at other reviews, you'll read about yelling and insulting. Not a big deal, but this attitude towards students is more appropriate for academies and the program coordinator needs to understand that his students are CLIENTS, not his recruits. Some may think the yelling and screaming might be good stress training but it was not beneficial at all and took away valuable time from actual teaching/correcting. My biggest disappointment is that I was not given the proper feedback on my weaknesses: after the initial exam, I asked what I needed to study/review and the answer I got was "everything" (as if it's reasonable for someone to study a whole 3-inch book over a weekend). The only reason I enrolled in this program is because I wanted to complete it as quickly as possible. I've heard from other EMTs that UCLA offers a better program.Manny Islam

I really liked this course A LOT. Yes, the course is a bit more difficult than other courses, but that's a good thing. They really prepare you for working in the emergency field and make sure you're able to handle difficult situations under pressure. Some people just can't handle the pressure of dealing with life or death situations, and instead want the class to be easy and relaxed. EMT's are expected to save people's lives, would you yourself really want someone who slacked off and took it easy to take care of you when your own life hangs in the balance? Of course not. Unfortunately some people don't see it this way, and instead take out their frustrations on this course, instead of just admitting they aren't cut out for the job. The course itself is highly informative, and goes into a bit more detail to help prepare you a bit for paramedic school, should you want it. The instructors are very helpful and try and give you as many tips as they can for how things actually happen in the real world. I would highly recommend this course to other people.Alex Ruiz
