20 Best Paramedic Programs In Ogden, UT (2022 Updated)

School here is nice and if you need something cheap, but UVU reinforces the comment that "University education is becoming less valuable." Half my professors were either teaching here their first time, didn't speak English, or had no expertise in their subject. I passed 2 years of credits by watching videos and drawing pictures during class: not because I'm smart, but because there was no content. Like in high school, many of the professors have 30% percent of their grade centered around attendance. Not participation, but attendance. So yes, I ignored class because everything I needed for an A was provided online. I'm typing this now during Philosophy class, and I am not missing anything. Books are hardly ever used but are "required" according to the professors. They gather dust on my shelf. Most problems here need to be fixed across the nation not just UVU, but I am a very frustrated student in my twenties because I don't know where my money is going. Teachers aren't happy with pay and all have second jobs. The building and resources are really really nice but I rarely need to use them since the internet was invented. UVU in general education has the same quality as Khan Academy except here, there is a physical address they want you to come to. There is a good range of food options but mostly crowded into the same building. Parking is ridiculous and there is no reason to pay $90 a year for the clustered insanity that the school created. Use the darn money to hire a civil engineer for God's sake. Once you pass general education and focus in to better classes, the rooms get nicer and the teaching quality doubles. Don't come here if you're not willing to graduate. Location is fine other than the city planning on the busiest road outside. If you're coming from the south east your drive will be dangerous, traffic is terrible and construction has been in effect for 4 years now. Very annoying. Train station is very convenient and is likely your best choice if you have a transportation method to your nearest station. Students who work feel punished because rent in the area is high, and pay low. Scholarships are handed to those without jobs first, those who aren't working for rent and tuition are the ones handed money from the school. Afternoon/Night classes are poor in options and schedule so working at a volatile job is ever more of a punishment. (Data from a few friends and strangers) Many activities, but the activities most advertised in my buildings were focused for helping women, about guest speakers, for the LGBT community, or cost $15. So I've never been to one, though free lectures and speeches are common. Overall, UVU focuses on medium-to-low education and welcoming everyone with open arms. But once you're here, you may want to transfer to BYU or drop out entirely.Isaac Benge

Coming here was the best decision I have ever made. Every single professor cares about my learning and the fact that the average class size is 23 (I’ve never had a class over 25) makes it so my teachers know me, know my name, know what type of student I am, and some even came to my wedding! I have also been incredibly impressed with the resources. You would have to TRY to fail at UVU, because they truly make it so easy to succeed. From job resources, free tutoring, professor office hours, financial aid and scholarships, and everything in between I honestly feel like every single person I talk to wants me to succeed. The campus is amazing and INDOORS like seriously it is the best part of campus. Shorts in the winter and pants in the summer. Sure parking can be hard, but you are 100% going to find that at any university and it is really only bad after 10am so if you have classes before that you will be fine. The social life is great and the activities are fun and well attended. Free food at all times and tons of on campus food options. I honestly feel like the education I received is worth a million times more than what the tuition is (one of the lowest in the nation for a university). UVU focuses on Engaged Learning, or learning by doing, and most my classes don’t even have textbooks or tests, just projects and resume building it’s amazing. Add that to the fact that it is open enrollment and you can see why it is the largest university in the state. Seriously. Come take a tour at least and see how awesome UVU is.Justine Rupprecht

In all honesty do NOT go here, if you have a better option do not come to this college, it is a over glorified high school. They aren't too expensive which is nice, but they charge many other ways, you must pay to take tests if you are not there the first day, they offer no flexibility when taking classes especially if you are working full time. The professors are 50/50 you either get great ones that work with you, answer quickly to your emails, and are awesome. Or you get awful ones that only two kids pass their class, they will put you on academic probation which I don't get because I am paying to go to school here, so why does it bother them if I failed one class because the professor was awful. Went from IT bro to IT pro I got the Information Technology certificate from here earlier this year and it definitely pointed me in the right direction and gave me motivation and a space to get industry certs as well. It was hard to go in and do your work sometimes because life's life but the instructors were really understanding and good at helping you succeed here to finish the program, Trent and Miles were especially helpful and good resources for me. If you're trying to land your first IT job this is the program to do especially if you do the Comptia cert. test prep courses along the way and pass a couple of those. I wouldn't say this is the only schooling you need to go far in IT but it's a great start and has opened a lot of doors for me. I was able to get an IT job right after I passed the A+ test here while still doing the Bridgerland program and have had no issue finding an IT job since then. However if you want to be paid what you're worth after you finish the program moving out of Logan is key lol. I feel like some people get discouraged in the thick of it because it's A LOT of videos and information to take in, but if you're motivated and can learn to stay awake and pump it out it's well worth the time/energy/money investment. The only negative thing I have to say is I wish they put a greater emphasis on AWS and Azure. Both are heavily used in almost every company today and I knew very little about them when I entered the real world. Microsoft has a lot of smaller certs that you can put together to form a bigger Microsoft cert and it would be cool if in the required courses you had to do one or two of those to push you to get a higher level Microsoft cert, and maybe learn a bit about cloud computing along the way.Grey Christensen

Hypocrisy is very prominent within the Interior Design course at Bridgerland. The instructors expect perfection. It says that on the rubric of multiple assignments. I wouldn’t have a problem with this if they could display perfection themselves. I have found mistakes that I had to bring to their attention so they could correct it. Their response was: “It looks like the assignment was not updated.” Obviously this was just a simple mistake, but DON'T EXPECT PERFECTION IF YOU CAN'T BE PERFECT YOURSELF. Their policy with their dress code is another instance of hypocrisy. They have a strict business casual, which makes sense. As an interior designer, I believe you should be dressed nice. “Plan on wearing clothing you would wear to an interview.” are the words an instructor told me. So I came to class in my business casual attire and multiple instructors were wearing pants with holes in them. Seems extremely hypocritical to me. This is just the beginning of the issues I saw with this course, but to wrap it up, there are a considerable number of flaws in this course. The Interior Design program at Bridgerland was not worth it for me and does not seem like quality education.tessa s

I like Bridgerland Technical College but the Interior Design Department definitely needs a facelift. I don't want to say I learned nothing in this program but I felt like I accomplished coursework and there were new ones that I know I didn't see there before. I made aware of the situation and the instructor said it was "optional" but I didn't know that later on it would be applicable in later coursework. I'd also like to add that the instructor might not know all the computer programs that she is "teaching" in this department. They programs head instructor is a great interior designer but does not know how to implicate the techniques to the program. It's not far that I and other people in that program have to be led down a rabbit whole of never ending coursework and having to repay money to worthless projects and programs that we learn nothing from. When deciding what EMT school to attend, I chose the one that had a class schedule coming up that best fit my schedule. I wasn’t worried about style or approach of the school, I was ready to attend class, study, take the exams all in preparation for the NREMT. I quickly realized the Utah Paramedic and EMT Academy is not a “school” rather it is what it says it is, an “Academy”. The Academy director is Andrew Nichols whose passion about quality prehospital care is contagious. Nichols has assembled a team of instructors and support staff that has created an Academy that is something akin to what I envision Plato’s garden to be like, where philosophy, knowledge, instruction, and training are always being disseminated to students ready to learn. On any given day, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. there is ongoing instruction, study session, tutoring, training, workshop etc. in progress. In the classroom, students are taught by experienced, seasoned instructors that are constantly providing real life experiences that help us understand the application of the concepts being taught out of the book. The instructors all share Nichols’s passion that students be taught concepts beyond what is in the book (physiology), namely that we are taught to understand the pathophysiology of what is occurring to our patients. While in class, we are constantly in motion, lecture, demonstrations, hands on training etc. (never a dull moment). So be warned, this is an Academy with high expectations, not a school that teaches to the test. This makes for an Academy of instructors and students who are committed to improving the quality of prehospital care for the sick and injured in our communities.Michael Clara

What a fantastic school! I've never seen a school where the instructors are so engaged with student learning. They freely give their own time to anyone who wants extra skills training or to review more in depth coursework. It is a rigorous program that is very hands on. You don't just sit in class and listen to someone read each chapter or boring PowerPoint slides. They have their own ambulance which they use to do mock call outs so what you're learning is applied. Instructor's were great, always willing to go above and beyond to help even on their off time. Whether it was skills or book work I always felt I had someone to call, ask, or show me over and over until I felt comfortable with what I was trying to learn. Unfortunately, I had the opportunity of attending a different EMT school (EMT Utah) before this, and I can not even begin to describe how disappointed I was in the overall experience/teaching/professionalism etc. Alex and the Utah EMT Academy could not have been more of polar opposite experience for me. I had a lot of anxiety coming into this class due to the negative experience I previously had at the other school I attended. Alex is an abundance of wealth and knowledge with years of experience working as a Paramedic and Fire Chief. I have taken a lot of classes throughout 4 years of college and Alex has one of the best teaching styles I have experienced. Each class was filled with real world examples and scenarios. Alex does a great job of articulating each topic in different ways in order to cater to different learning styles. He also provides interactive visuals, making it easy to stay engaged. Although my class was small and early in the morning, Alex kept things both fun and personable each day. On top of all this the building/facilities and equipment that Alex has is really nice and great for skills and hands on learning. I left this class feeling prepared and confident to take my national EMT exam. I plan to take my Advance EMT class through Utah EMT Academy with Alex in the future as well. The instructor of this academy is incredibly educated, well-versed, and an amazing teacher. My husband and I were impressed with the amount of knowledge and skills that we were able to impart with. Alex was even willing to help you find jobs after graduation, personally help you with content, and even meet with you individually if needed. WVFA was one of the best experiences I’ve had! The instructors that teach there know how to pinpoint your weaknesses and build from them. They train hard and prepare you for the worst. I graduated in July 2019 and since then Captain Ryan Christensen has taken his own personal time outside of class to meet with me and coach me in to getting hired onto a full time fire department. That’s more than I could have ever asked for! He’s been extremely important in my process to getting hired. These guys are professional and train hard! They don’t just care about teaching. I would definitely recommend West Valley Fire Academy for someone looking to get a full-time job in the Fire-EMS World. They will prepare you for state testing and give you a taste of what a recruit camp is like. You will get out of it what you put in. EMT Utah was phenomenal. When the Army National Guard & Air National Guard needed to train for mass casualty disaster relief, EMT Utah mobilized hundreds of people from the community – students, faculty, friends and family – to come out in bitterly cold temperatures and lay on the ground, down in the mud, allowing the Guard to practice their mission-essential rescue skills. I was privileged to work with them, and I cannot sing their praises highly enough! They were a truly professional and selfless group. You get what you pay for. Obviously it will depend on your program, but in my experience most of the course material is outdated and disorganized. Various sources are just tossed together, accumulating over the years like dust bunnies, with almost no attempt to structure them into a coherent whole. Most of the instructors are drowsy and unmotivated burnouts, not committed educators. They are there to “help,” but they really don’t care about the curriculum, much of which is just a waste of time. In general, and despite its much-vaunted “flexible” scheduling, OWTC really does trifle with a student’s time. You will spend most of your scheduled hours reading poorly-written trade manuals and, even worse, clicking through “interactive” learning modules. Far fewer hands-on exercises than you might expect. This place is constantly fiddling with its policies and procedures, too, and to no apparent purpose, other than to irritate you. It took me some time to figure out what’s going on, here, but it’s pretty clear to me now. This is certainly not a community college. It’s not even really a school. It’s NOT somewhere to go to learn how to do something. OWTC performs three and only three functions: (a) it serves as the vocational arm for the area’s high schools, i.e. as a babysitter; (b) it’s a good old-fashioned make-work program for drowsy and unmotivated burnouts; and (c) it allows local businesses and manufacturers to offload its more basic employee training and certification onto the public. All of this is to say that you probably shouldn’t bother with OWTC unless you’re a high school student or you’re already employed in industry and your employer is paying for you to get some BS certificate.a h

Worse experience let’s just put it out there, I went in months ago with my son who had virgin hair and he wanted we got told they can’t do pink they’d need to do purple first and then come back to do pink!! Wrong!! Even with an instructor they didn’t refund us or nothing you’d think with proper education going to this place you’d be fully educated thank god for Paul Mitchelle and my friend who actually has helped us for now 4 months she’s helped his hair I paid double the amount from this school and only sticking to Paul Mitchell and their well educated Instructed with more degrees and not them only wanting my money they give me a proper educated steps on how to do it and keep up on his hair such a waste of time and money and to think I was getting the right services trusting even olderly instructor they don’t know a single thing about taking virgin brown hair to a flamingo pink when my friend has done and she will doing looks like my donated money was needed.Natasha Rivera

Their cosmetology section is amazing! So neat and professional. I loved how there were plenty of instructors to continually check in on the stylists work to ensure a good outcome on your hair. I felt like the stylists were properly trained before working, and had a good extent of knowledge to do damage control on surprise twists and turns along the process. I don't have a lot of experience with Weber State University. I did attend a big conference on their campus today. Their food services provided the meal and it was excellent. It's cool they have shuttles to drive the students in from the parking lots far away. On that shuttle I met the most amazing, young, smart student. I took two classes: The Silk Road which was very interesting and informative. The instructor was very knowledgeable and interacted very well with the class. The other was Professor Steensma on the author Wallace Stegner. It was excellent and gave us so much information about the author and also about his activities in Salt Lake. After a few conversations through email and phone call I was advised to come in anytime to get some additional information regarding the nail tech program and talk to student services. I did go in a few weeks ago I was excited to get more information I talked to Jennifer P and I have never felt more unimportant in my entire life every question I asked she said you can find that on our website , she basically gave me no answers and seemed to be rushing me off if anything . I have been a student at Davis tech for almost two years at this point. I have loved it! I am in the medical coding and billing program and am getting ready to take my licensing exam in October. The staff have been so kind and helped me in any way they could when things were a bit rocky in the beginning. they were patient and understanding when I was coming to school at the time when I was planning my wedding. all in all I have loved my time as a student of this institution. Terrible work experience. The DTC staff will completely lie to you in your interview to get you in the door. Management won’t bother to show you how to do your job. Then, management will have the nerve to tell you that you’re not performing properly!! I’ve been reading in the comments that students don’t receive proper instructions or help from instructors as well. I guess it’s typical business practice for the DTC. Returning to a schooling environment at 50 something was extremely intimidating. Not knowing if I would be able to keep up with working full time and attending classes. But all of the staff and instructors at Southwest Technical College were helpful beyond my wildest expectations. From the very beginning enrollment process thru to graduation, I felt like i was supported and had a purpose. If I ever needed help, had questions, or wanted to talk; someone was there for me. I felt like i could approach anyone and they would go out of their way to help. Every staff member had one objective, to help me succeed. And succeed I did. I graduated as the Southwest Technology College 2017 Student of the Year and Culinary Student of the Year. I left with pride in my heart that I was affiliated with a fantastic and affordable college. Since graduating I have started a bakery, ventured with my own baking business and work at our local hospital in Nutritional Services. I participated in the WFR program at EMT Utah. I took this course for personal enrichment to be able to help my family, friends or anyone in a medical emergency when help is far away. There was a lot of information and a lot of training. I enjoyed every minute of it. Our instructors Sam and Racheal were extremely knowledgeable, engaging, encouraging and organized. I particularly appreciate their methods to develop our critical thinking. I definitely feel better equipped to properly deal with various medical emergencies that may arise. I love EMT Utah. They have great classes and instructors. I've really struggled to find a place to earn CE's for my AEMT recert and EMT Utah is the place. Some of the classes are pricey but it is a medical school of sorts, so paying $300 for 16 CE's isn't too bad a deal. This is also a very student friendly facility, with a kitchen, which is awesome and appreciated. I took the Wilderness First Responder course with no prior medical knowledge. With the guidance of Sam and Rachael, I learned how to properly care for a patient in the wilderness. They are excellent instructors that care and genuinely want you to succeed. I recommend this WFR course to anyone who recreates in the outdoors professionally or personally. I just went through the Basic EMT course with Kyle, he is the most knowledgeable person in the EMS field I’ve had the privilege to talk to and learn from. The class experience is awesome, class sizes aren’t large so you get a one on one feel or learning. He takes the time to teach and make sure every student learns the material. He doesn't just teach you how to pass tests, he teaches you how to be a real EMT once you get in the field! I would recommend this class to anyone wanting to go the route of healthcare, firefighting, or if you just want to learn. Kyle and Mary are awesome teachers and I am for sure doing his next Advanced EMT class.Brayden Lindley

10/10 would I recommend going through FIREHOUSE EMS. It all starts with Kyle being such a great instructor providing us with great instructions which makes it more clear to understand. He is a great teacher that shows he is there for us and our success as we go down this road! I’ve experienced other EMS courses and hands down has this one been the best.
