19 Best Paramedic Programs In Miami, FL (2022 Updated)

I never had a chance to visit barry university before enrolling and I wound up not liking the area. The area outside of it is very ghetto and the dorms are smaller than what is shown on the layout online. I didn't feel safe in the general area so I withdrew from the university during the grace period where I should've gotten a 100% refund on classes and an 80% refund on housing. It's been almost two months since I signed and dated the form where I only agreed on paying 20% for housing and 0% for classes. I had not gone to any classes and now I am moved out and enrolled in a different college. I am still being given hell on this process where they were only responsible for calculating the 20% on housing that I owed and signing a withdrawal form. It's taken them two months to do these simple tasks that should've been made a priority and I was told it would be. I am now being billed for $7,050 for classes. For what classes? I hadn't gone to any and withdrew during the grace period. I have copies of my withdrawal form stating what I signed for and printed copies of the official website stating the corresponding dates and percentages for refunds and billing. They are now either going to resolve this issue right away or I will be in the process of sueing the university. This is ridiculous. The only person I can say actually had done their job was my academic advisor who also agreed that this process has been a ridiculous money scam.Miranda Moran

What can I say: I love Barry. Even though I live way up here in Jax, I commuted down there for classes once a month. It was worth it to me. I’m in the PhD nursing program and I can say it really changed my life. Dr. Jessie Colin, who is also my chair, is the most intelligent and remarkable person I have ever met. The 5 stars is for her and how she is running the doctoral program. Thank you Dr. Colin! The rest of the nursing faculty are also wonderful. Lovely women (too many to name). I’m so glad I made the decision to come to this school. I’ve learned so much that this post would be too long to describe it all! It’s an intellectually challenging program, so be ready to learn. This school in general really focuses on social justice. If you are not open minded to multi-culturalism and discovering new ways of thinking outside of the norm, this may not be the school for you. I tell people this because I know how the culture is in America today (ignorance is bliss). You have to accept to live the ‘Barry Life’, which is being open to culture and seeking justice for those whose voices might go unheard. Like some say on other reviews, yes, the area in which the school is in is kinda sketchy. And be prepared, the student parking is awful. Barry University is the worst. I was enrolled for one semester in 2013. The way the school system is set up is terrible. NO ONE is on the same page, rarely will credits transfer, teachers do not truly care or seemed interested in making personal relationships (mind you this is a PRIVATE college), and lastly…getting your transcripts sent to other colleges is the HARDEST. They go through different programs like "Transcripts on Demand" so there's no help from Barry because they don't even know whats going on in the transcript process. They just buy some company to come handle all of their students and transcripts for them. My transcripts are now late being sent to two different colleges and its been over a month since I sent my consent form (since when do you need a consent form to sent transcripts…usually you pay a fee and that's that). Currently attending and have been struck with how little people here care about their students’ education. I’ve called for advisors to help me with transfer papers and financial aid to ask about my scholarship money (they never refunded it back to me) and I’ve been hung up, transfered to other lines, and even worst… gotten a voicemail saying they’re not available even after calling 5 times during different days and hours. It’s as if the faculty here doesn’t work. The professors are mediocre, really lazy and most have an accent that is hard to understand. Never answer to emails either and don’t help their students pass. I’ve gotten all As and one B but that’s due to how much I tried and stressed myself since I didn’t get any help here. Ever since the pandemic, it’s been difficult getting a hold of different departments and professors. When you sign up for a class, they usually cancel the class for the semester for various reasons. They don’t communicate changes in policy i.e. when you enroll for a class and your funding doesn’t come through, they no longer automatically drop you from the class so they expect you to pay for that class, even if you didn’t take it. Apparently they no longer automatically drop you for non-payment. It’s an unethical practice. Students should be notified of this policy change. The only bright side of this school has been the Access program. They’ve always answered calls and provided help.Kim Sanchez

Glitchy system that logs in when it feels like it, making me pay for classes I DID NOT TAKE and sent me to collections. Staff may lack 3rd grade education let alone college, the only thing they can direct you to is the bathroom. Appealing anything takes several tries and a firework display over Bayside spelling out "stop screwing me i.d. #000000000". Best thing I could've done for myself is not even bother with MDC. Take i.t./networking related classes through Netacad directly. Save the hundreds of dollars, time, and headaches.Javier C

The most unorganized, unprofessional, "learning institution" I have ever come across. There are a FEW instructors within the nursing program that really have a passion for teaching nursing students, but the rest, this is merely a second source of income for them. It is very rare that you'll receive an email back in regards to an issue you have and if you do happen to get an email back it's most likely going to be at least a week later. While the school may be accredited to be a learning institution, the nursing program is NOT accredited. Save your time and money. It's enticing because of the shorter amount of time it will take to receive your ADN, but it is not worth the headache nor the amount of money they charge. If you can swing it, go to another institution that will provide you with QUALITY education, even if that means it takes a little longer. I promise you will wish you would have done that in the beginning if you choose to attend this school. Pay attention to the negative reviews on this school – they speak truth.Nani Neamiah

I have completed my A.S. Degree in EMS and have had the most professional experience I’ve experienced. My classes were online and the professors were beyond helpful in class. Krystal Zimbaldi was a key component in my success with HCI. She has made my college experience amazing and has been by my side throughout the whole process. From the first day I called to join HCI to complete my degree, she has been the point of contact for all my questions and concerns. The fact that she constantly checks up on students to make sure they are updated with information and to see how their college experience is going is an amazing trait to have. I am in my 12th month of nursing school and I absolutely love this School and the Nursing program. I would recommend this school to anyone that needs to work while going to school. This school is very accommodating. The best thing that ever happened to this school was bringing Isabelle Ayers on board, she has been such a positive change for this school. It has come a long way in a short time. The entire staff including Irene from the EMS program is always so helpful in any way needed and willing to go above and beyond to help out. This by far is one the worst schools I have ever been to. I am stuck as I am a year in already. This school is all about money. The director of the school, Dr. Bonilla is not for the students in my opinion. They have you taking courses that you should not be taking. I currently work in the field that I am attending this school for. The school wants me to take a computer course, CPR, as well as professional strategies. I mean I work on computers everyday, so what is a basic computer class going to teach me? Then when I signed up to take the computer class online, the link for the orientation gave my personal computer a virus and I contacted the school. I even tried to use the link at work and the professor had the nerve to tell me to contact my IT department at work, not well we can email you the syllabus and you follow along. No I am signed up for a professional strategy class where I am supposed to learn how to write a resume, references, and job searching for the field that I enrolled in. As I explained, I am already in the field. I have been in this field for over 10 years. Later I will have to take a CPR class. Which makes no sense to me. I mean, this class takes three months, when the YMCA does the same class in one day and for free. This school charges tuition and program fees. It seems as though the tuition is the same for all programs and the only thing that is different is the program fees. I don't understand how the private investigation program is the same price as the medical office admin. If you want to exempt classes and have your work or life studies applied, they charge a fee for that. The only good part about this school is Dr. Luka. None of the people in financial aid are on the same page. One person says one thing and the next person say something different. I hate that I even enrolled in this school. The prices for the books are ridiculous as well as the uniforms that they swear you have to wear, but I have yet to put on one. The bookstore claim that they will buy back books that you have purchased. HAHAHA that is a joke. They will either say oh we are not buying back books at this time or they will offer nearly pennies and then resale those same books for over $50.00. So if you are thinking about enrolling in this school, please do yourself a favor and look for another school. I am stuck here as it is too late for me and I doubt that any of the classes that I took are transferrable to another school. So I am stuck in this high price school.Valerie Pew

My experience of the nursing program was not the best. This is a very expensive program, but it offers very little structure and organization. As a student, I would never be informed of anything until the last possible minute. Some professors do not offer consistency or transparency with the syllabus, and decisions are made aimlessly as they see fit. As a student, it was very stressful to deal with this unpredictability in addition to the expect stresses of nursing school. I never write reviews unless I have something positive to say but this place is the most infuriating, irresponsible place you could ever waste your money. To begin to explain my horrible experience here would be the beginning of a very angry novel, which is a shame because most of the professors are extraordinarily nice and helpful. I signed up for the school and got a call a week before classes that they were canceling the class. Said that i was the only student that signed up for evening classes and the next evening classes won’t start for the next two months. Then they offered to only give me $50 of the $150 i paid. Which is ridiculous because at the end I’m the one that’s loosing and they still have something to keep. I did my CPR renewal here with nursing instructor Christopher (Chris). I’ve been doing these renewal classes for 10 years and this was by far my favorite class. Very informative and small class size. I never regret doing renewals since it refreshes my memory. I feel more confident with infants now since I generally work with older adults. Chris was genuinely passionate about teaching. Dylan Carper is by far the best instructor in this building. He teaches in a fun and unique way. At the same time he incorporates his background as a paramedic to keep your attention and to help you retain the information. Worst emt/paramedic school in Miami. The instructors are there to help and are very nice but the people in the office are there to fail you. They will make any excuse as to why you can’t graduate or receive your diploma. SCAMMERS. More than half of the students in my class did not graduate. Do your self a favor. Go to MDC and sign up for emt or medics over there. Where your hard earned money will be useful, you will actually learn, and MDC won’t pull any stunts or jokes on you when it’s time to graduate. My son has been taking classes for EMS/EMT. They have been amazing during this entire covid time and answering all our questions. I seen one that said it was a lot of money. Yes but they have a payment plan. Their attention to students seems to be their number 1 priority. Add that to small classes and you actually feel like a student, not a number. They provided night and morning classes with amazing instructors who have the experience and knowledge to teach. The instructors show their love for what they do in all their classes. I would not recommend this school. After completing my first semester of the core nursing program, (with straight A's) I was advised to take a leave of absence until the following semester because there was not enough students to continue with my cohort. I was told I can start with the new student come January. It wasn't until the 1 week before enrollment deadline I was advised they were not going to continue with the evening classes and I had to find another school. The professors are great but the administration is horrible. Needless to say I had to repeat and pay to take the same classes because they are non-transferable.Joanna S

I really enjoyed attending this school. The equipment is exceptional, the instructors really care about the students, and the office easily handles any questions that you may have. The instructor to student ratio is about 1:15, so every student gets a lot of hands on. The instructors are excellent, and they make sure that every student fully understands the subject that is being reviewed. Some instructors even help students on their off time to make sure that they understand the material. This was a top of the line training course with a caring and knowledgeable and high level instructor named Andy Garcia. The effort Andy put in to instill in us, the students, to ensure our understanding of the material and to ensure we carry this lesson with us into our careers was remarkable. This was my first time taking a CPR certification course and I have to say that the experience was amazing. The classroom and equipment were tidy and clean. I was in need of renewing my BLS card and was able to get a spot in Andy Garcia’s class. The class began promptly which was awesome because the class was scheduled for 2 hours. Even though it seems the time is very short, it is extremely informative. Andy was knowledge and professional from beginning to end. This is a beautiful campus, easy access to get there and a lot of parking. However, I have to give this a 1 star because of admissions and registration. Those people there don't know anything. I was trying get my residency to in state from May. It's now July and I just got it because I decided to take it upon myself to go to another campus, and got what I needed. The people at admissions all give you different answers for the same question. I went to North over 5x with the same issue. One person reached out, and she never followed up. This property deserves more. The buildings are falling apart and the property grounds are not well-maintained. The school itself is excellent and the staff is pleasant to deal with. Lobby local and state governments for more funds for this school. Miami Dade college is an excellent stepping stone for those students out of high school not wanting to take on enormous amounts of debt in there early years of adult life which is a smart decision but please help this college raise the funds needed to bring the structures up to safe standard add a minimum. Let me start by saying that I have attended 2 other universities in the state of Florida (UF & UCF) and MDC feels like kindergarten. The admission and registration office at the North Campus has the worst customer service I have yet to see, 8 windows but only 1 person working, the rest are gathered in a desk talking. Professors come unprepared for classes and most of them try to rush through a powerpoint and cut the class short. It is disappointing as I am here to actually learn not just get a grade.Juan Cobo

The worst school ever , its not real. Its not accredited. I just went through the worst embarrassment at my clinic with my Doctor and had to be told to my face that my certificate was false. There is no resource or reference on the certification we receive ! There is really no help for students. I can never reach them and when I do they don’t have any answers to my questions and they call themselves advisors. I go in the school since I can’t reach them I asked one of them for help to sign me up for classes I will need for the nursing bridge program and she didn’t even know herself she made me take and pay for classes I didn’t even need. I needed to take the teas i call and call for help I can never reach. I signed up through the ATI and took it through ATI proctor just now I found out I was supposed to take it through Miami dade assessment. I don’t know what to do with this school anymore l. Nobody cares or even act like they do. I’m planning on looking to other schools because it’s really hard dealing with them. I am a recent graduate of the school, and I must say although I received quality education from the school, the help from the advisement Department is little to none and the customer service is very poor. I considered going back to the school for my BSN however I decided against it after it took over two months for them to send my transcript to the Board of Nursing so that I could sit for my boards. I believe in efficiency and I believe I am a paying customer, I pay my own out-of-pocket tuition. The quality of education is great, but as soon as lockshine leaves they really won't have much to offer anymore. I just tried to call and get a simple question answered and both advisement and the nursing department gave me attitude. I'm sorry who pays your salary? Students. What a mess .No instructions and support during the new student application process ,difficult to reach an advisor,when you reach one of them ,they don’t give any help ,every time I called there , they gave me different information .I've gone in person and I wasted my time, I haven't solved anything , I have written several emails to Financial Aid and I have not received a response yet , the same with admission Dpt .Poor orientation, disorganized, dismissive and unconcern office and administrative staff about the students. The school would've probably been great. Their standards are higher than state standards to make you better prepared for a real world situation and I'd love to go in and give it my all. Good luck getting a seat though. Don't bother to expect the admissions lady to help either. I've been trying to get in for the last 2 semesters but she makes it seem like she doesn't want anyone in the school. Shell tell you to take a CPR class with them, and say your all ready to sign up. If the seats are full you have to wait till the next semester and she'll tell you when to sign up. You sign up that date, pay the money and she'll tell you your still missing paperwork but won't ever be specific.Now they move you to the bottom of the list and go on with the next person. If I didn't go to orientation and see the students myself, I'd think this was just one big scam.Alex M
