20 Best Paramedic Programs In Memphis, TN (2022 Updated)

This review is in regards to the disc golf course and not the college itself. The course was uneventful and hardly worth the time. There are very few holes with any sort of technical shots involved. It really came down to how far you can throw your disc. The majority of holes followed the perimeter of soccer fields and many were along side roads, driveways and parking lots. If it was busy or the lots were full of cars, I wouldn't recommend playing even though the before mentioned were considered out of bounds. Many tee pads were far away from the previous basket, making it a hike between holes (not the worse thing). Signage was the best part of this course. Once you find the main map, the layout is fairly simple (which wasn't the case for me at first; played 12-18 before seeing the map). The course is also split by the main road and as someone else suggested, play the front 9 and drive over to the other parking lot to play the back 9. I'd only suggest playing this course if you live in the area and there are no other courses around. This course design feels as if the sports director of the college designed the course without having ever played the sport. But they did work with what they had. Oh and be prepared for water on the course after heavy rain fall. There was standing water and the grass was like a sponge disguising the water till you stepped there. 3 stars is on the generous side.Michael Graeve

My experience here was horrible…it started on my 1st day off respiratory class & ended the day God showed me this institution/program wasn't for me..THANK YOU LORD 🙌🏽 The very 1st day one of the two respiratory instructors showed her lack of professionalism while the other showed & told us "we would fail" long story stort…I should have left that very 1st day, but I tried to stick.it out until things almost got physical because the professor continued to treat me like i wasn't human & talk to me any kind of way..why??? Because I was late one day?? Anywho since then I've become the lead of a big company & have a bachelor's of Science in Biology now to teacher two who said we/I would fail daily & made the classes sooooo difficult jokes on you, but I wish you both the BEST…I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS SCHOOL TO ANYONE….I didn't go into the HARRASMENT OR ANXIETY I ENDURED. ASU MIDSOUTH is a good school I took the process technology class that was 14 weeks taught Mr. Charlie Hull. Jury's out. No doubt there are some fine staff and professors on this campus. Fine students, too. When the doors are open, which is a bit too limited for my taste, this is a great facility with terrific infrastructure for the students. Ample parking, and stickers are reasonable. In balance, I think this is a wonderful education option for Clarksville and Tennesseans, and one that's perhaps too often overlooked. I would like to see it grow. I echo other reviewers regards the inefficiency and inefficacy of the administrative process. It's slow and cumbersome, making the student feel like a ("A!") number. This is most definitely frustrating, but not entirely the fault of this satellite campus. The "systems" and "language" take some getting used to, for sure. Mostly these are serious, supportive, and hardworking people who are doing triple-duty compared to the bureaucracy in the comparative Ivory Tower of White Bridge Road. Beyond extended hours, this campus needs (and demands!, to borrow from Micro) a food/coffee vendor. Note that this is a tobacco-free campus. I am a senior here at Nashville State Community College Clarksville Campus. It has been a wonderful experience attending this college. I am very fond of the Faculty staff from the head Director to the extraordinary staff members. They all are very unique and special to me. They go above and beyond in assisting students and providing them the tools and resources to utilize while attending school. The professors I have had are all very important as well. They each have been very detailed in demonstrating and instructing students on the materials for class. They all make themselves available and easy to talk to when needing assistance with any particular subject. As a part-time, non-traditional student at Nashville State Community College, I have had several great experiences while pursuing my Associate's in Business Management. I am enrolled in both online and face-to-face classes and would recommend both. The instructors are experts in their fields and eager to assist in my learning success. I also work for NSCC and think of my co-workers as family. These awesome folks do more than expected on a daily basis and serve our community both on and off campus. Columbia State is one of the worst ran colleges ever. There attention to students needs is nonexistent. I have had MANY issues with my information, financial aid, transcripts, and class schedules while here. There was never a semester that something didn't go wrong. When asking for help from the student resource departments I had to basically harass the departments to make sure my issues were addressed. If I was not constantly checking on my inquiries my problems were pushed aside or not addressed. every issue I had could only be resolved by meeting in person with a department leader. Many of the workers were un interested with issues that they couldn't immediately solve or I couldn't solve on my own. I had issues with them even after years of being graduated. for instance when I applied for law school, I requested transcripts for application and they only college that didn't send them in time were CSCC. I had to call several times just to get them sent. Im just glad that I am a diligent person who was on top of tasks otherwise I may not have been able to achieve what I have if I had relied on the CSCC system. This is no reflection on their academic aspects. CSCC was academically helpful. Professors were kind and well educated. I have no complaints on that part of staffing. Literally the worst ran college ever. No one can do their job. Financial aid just messes around with your scholarships and finances and then won’t tell you when things have gone wrong or changed. I put in for an additional loan amount and they just revised my first loan amount to be the total of what I asked for in additional funds before getting confirmation from me. Absolutely terribly ran. Several professors can’t get their stuff together and show up late or are completely disorganized and don’t know what’s going on. Not to mention tenured professors that don’t give a single care about their students and just want a paycheck. If they weren’t tenure they would be fired. I don’t know how this college still gets accredited for things.. ridiculous. The website is also confusing and unnecessarily complicated. What a joke of a college.Winter V Hansen

I had a wonderful experience during my time at Columbia State. As a nontraditional student who never thought he'd go back to school, it was a very comfortable transition back into the realm of academics. Special shout out to Dr. Gidcomb, a professor of history at Columbia State, who like many professors at CS is not only passionate about his subject, but sets students up for success in every way he can. He also made sure that all of his students knew there were options available for covid relief funds. As many have said, I agree that the wheel of admissions and the financial office could us a bit of grease, but ultimately found these employees eager to help. I'm very thankful that Columbia State helped me complete a degree that had been hanging over my head for many years.Dustin Paris

All my online classes are wonderful, except Computer Fundamentals. This class, online and offline uses MyITLab that auto grades students twice a week. It is very inaccurate and misgraded all but 2 of my grades in the first 6 weeks. The Dean, Mrs. Singleton, concluded it was too big of a burden for the teacher to hand grade assignments, despite being fully aware of the technical issues. The class is still using this faulty platform and the students that don't catch the grading errors are out of luck on those points. When it is known what questions cause problems, the class is not emailed nor given points back unless they point it out to the instructor. To make matters worse, my instructor emailed all the students that they needed to call tech support before she would consider changing a grade error/malfunction. What happened to fair and ethical grading? What happened to curriculum standards? Very disappointing!Natalie Johnson

I currently attend classes at the Livingston and Cookeville campus. This is my 4th semester and for the most part absolutely love it. I have professors that whole heartedly teach and give the best advice to see you succeed in your courses. Livingston campus is my favorite mainly because it's a small school and staff is extremely friendly. Brian and Sandra always have welcoming smiles at the front desk and are extremely helpful. Lisa officer in student services goes above and beyond to help with financial aid and answer all questions one might have. There is also open computer labs, library , and a learning commons where Mr Terry or Mr. Pryor is more than happy to help assist with math homework. I waited 10 years to get an education and couldn't be more pleased with the experiences I've encountered so far at Volstate!Bobbijo Andrews

An absolutely amazing school with a ton of talented professors who care about their students. Hardly ever did I have a professor I didn't love. It's a small campus filled with a lot of heart. However, because this is a community college, there isn't much of a sense of community within the student body. People often times just come to school and go on their merry way. Thankfully, it isn't too hard to make your own community there. The classes are are set at reasonable prices with decent financial aid availible. I wholeheartedly recommend Vol State to anyone, especially those looking to get to get their associates.Moose Williams

My wife has enrolled in the Cyber defense course. I am a Cloud Security Automation Engineer professionally. The Cengage platform they use in the networking class is terrible. My wife has received multiple zeros for incomplete work due to it. I have seen her refresh the virtual machine for hours in an attempt to do one network scan only for it to fail in the end. When she asked for help none was given. This review will get better once you do better for your students. To anyone looking into the program trust me when I say there are probably better options for you to get into cybersecurity than this.Nickolas Strong

My experience at dyersburg state has been the worst. I took anatomy 1 and 2 over the summer, and my professors were great. The system is awful though. I was late to be registered after being assured by the one stop center that I was ready for classes. I explained I was from another university, but they failed to tell me until the day I came and asked why I couldn't register, that I needed to file a consortium agreement. I had to file a consortium agreement with my home university to get my refund money for the class. (Which I had to pay up front for and then be reimbursed by my pell grant which makes no sense). After filing, the paperwork got "lost" and had to be resent. I had to constantly call dyersburg state to get someone to answer and figure out what was going on. I was told everything was good to go in JUNE and that my money would be in when my second class started in JULY. The first week into my second course, my money still hadn't come in. I called DSCCs woman who was over the agreements and told her that the information had not been sent. After unprofessionally raising her voice and saying "I sent them everything!" She asked if I started my second course (mind you second courses had already been started for over a week and she didnt bother to check) to which I said yes. She told me that's what she was waiting on and told me she JUST NOW SENT IT(in July, after I had been told everything was good in June). Now, I'm trying to get my transcript sent after selecting the "wait until final grades are posted" option. Again, no one bothered to check or actually do their job. Instead, they said it got "lost" and that I needed to file another one. Second one still hasnt come through. I've determined that dscc seems to say something has been "lost" instead of saying they didnt send it. I will never take another course at DSCC, and I will highly encourage any person who is thinking about enrolling to not go here.Mrs. Bucciarati

I had a horrible experience with the summer class. I decided to take an online class with Dyersburg, and everything was good until the purge date. After the purge date, 13 students were still said to be in the program, but because we needed 15 students for an ONLINE class, the whole class was dropped. I had to find another online class to take which was not even taught by a Dyersburg teacher. This class ended up costing me even more money, but I decided to go with it. After 3 days of taking the class, I realized that there was no way I could continue to take the class and work full time. Luckily, there was an online document shown provided by this class saying that I would be refunded seventy-five percent of my money within a week of starting the class, and so, seeing this made me feel more comfortable with resigning in the class. However, when refunded my money I was refunded barely half. This experience of trying to take a class provided by Dyersburg State proved to be a waste of time and money. I am highly disappointed with this college and do not recommend it. Do not waste your hard earned money here.Laina

Edited Review: Aside from recent bomb threats and a few other mishaps, the online RODP section to electives such as art and music are barely functional. Usually, those type of classes are in class and Online substitutes are poorly implemented. Also, there is little in other fields of study aside from ER and nurse practitioners. A good alternative to most community colleges. However, prior to the first year, DSCC has undergone distressing changes which have negatively impacted my experience there. The under-preparedness of rushed technological protocols dial the educational bar set to your average public high school. In addition, those changes have also unnecessarily raised the already exuberant costs of books and materials at the local book store.J A

Amazing class! The instructors are very knowledgeable and made the class interesting and fun. The AEMT Refresher was so much better than the EMT one I took last year with another company. No death by powerpoint! I took the refresher for remediation and then did private tutoring with Britt — she helped me to finally pass my NREMT Exam and I will definitely be coming back to her for any future classes I need.Tom Ford

Took the aemt refresher course. I was not pleased with one of the instructors. They had two Great Dane (Service Dogs as they said. I do not believe to be so) dogs that was distracting at times. One guy was allergic and they said just move further away. I don’t recommend using this company. Spend your hard earned money else where.James Butler

This is not a place for critical thinking, research, or academic advancement. This place is a giant GRIFT of state and federal funds. They exist to tick boxes and get money. Curriculums designed by business theorists hired by the state. No data scientists or actual statistics were involved in development of these programs. They are HORRIBLE to employees. Absolutely horrible. They don't protect students from problem employees or employees from problem students. They turn the other cheek when administrators physically threaten students and colleagues. Librarian literally runs laps in library so forget studying there. RAMPANT NEPOTISM. Head of security looking at all the cameras is husband of VP. No accessible wi-fi on campus for students. CRUmBLINg leaky buildings with poor HVAC, inadequate facilities for teachers and students; all monies spent on seldom used facilities like arts center (although they fired music teacher so who are they kidding). Stone age grift. Stay away. Oh and one more thing don't expect a quiet place to study in the library or any help from the librarian, because the library is where the librarian trains for running.Frieda Dorris

The University of Memphis is a great urban University in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. It has grown and developed tremendously over the last 20 years. I am an alumnus with bachelor's and master's degrees in business. My father earned his EdD here, my wife (accounting) and one of my children (music) are also graduates, and I have two more children that will be seniors this year, one in child development and one in French. There are many notable alumni, including Brad Martin, the retired chairman of the board of Saks Incorporated, who could live anywhere in the world and chooses to live in Memphis, TN. My degrees from Memphis prepared me well and have served me well in my 28 year career in financial services. I still have close connections with some of my grad school professors, and I teach in the business college as an adjunct. We have many dedicated and deeply experienced faculty who truly care about their students. Like all organizations, not all employees are as strong or friendly or caring as others, but the majority of the people I have worked with and was taught by are excellent. Memphis has great facilities (getting better all the time), and a strong, diverse, and highly engaged student body. As with all higher education, you will get out of it what you put into it. My kids have all placed a high priority on their education (partly because we did, but also on their own) and as a result have done well academically and socially. They have been highly involved in campus life, including numerous academic, social, and professional student organizations. They have truly thrived and grown and matured here. Any time I've had to deal with administration over credits, applications for scholarship/dorm/etc. something has been messed up and its a nightmare to fix. I wish the school cared less about sports and more about my major, and how we don't have much in the way of resources. The food was pretty bad when I had a meal plan but I've heard its getting better. My time in the LLC was pretty fun. My professors have been great. The library is great, except for the time they charged me $300 in overdue fees when I returned all my books on time, and I had to talk to 3 people before one finally looked for my books, which were all sitting on the shelves. Wish tuition wasn't going up. Literally anything that has to do with money or bureaucracy is a nightmare – when I dealt with Bursar's they give me eye rolls and sighs and act like I'm the biggest inconvenience because the classes I paid for and passed with A's aren't showing on my transcript and it's screwing me out of scholarships! I don't know where the university finds its employees. But I absolutely loved my program and my professors! I just hate that my school is run like a for-profit business!!!Breanna Parker

Advisors are slow to respond to emails, ya have to contact advisors a week in advance to schedule something, rather than within a week regardless of deadlines. I am a transfer student and i have received a letter saying they have my records however when i sign for classes online it says i need prerequisites i have already taken and so i tried getting a permit but their permit site is down. the registration processs is more confusing than anything and is very fustrating. Also to reach somebody by phone you have to wait absolutely forever before you may get a hold of someone, it is rediculous.Jon McCarthy

My time at Motlow was one I would rather forget. Advisors are supposed to help you with your academic problems and try to put you on the right path, that was not the case with me. I was only given 50% of the right information, which put me in trouble with my earned/attempted hours, now I am having constant trouble with financial aid. That was just the beginning. The next issue was the nursing program. I have been a flight medic in the military, an EMT for twelve years and finished all of my pre-recs, even the sciences with As and Bs. All I had to do was take the six core nursing classes and still could not get into the program. I had a good enough GPA(3.2) to get in and a high enough score on the HESI. But I guess with all that experience, high enough scores, and completion of EVERYTHING, they didn't deem me fit to be part of their program three times. Here is the part that I don't get, my friend, who got in with no problem, was a construction worker with no experience and a 4.0 GPA. There is a major problem with the way they pick people. They need to find a better way of doing things, it is ridiculous. I was told by many nursing students that if they had it to do over again, they would go somewhere else. I guess I made the right decision by going somewhere else and got accepted into a great nursing program after one attempt. The straw that broke the camels back was, when again, I was told the wrong the wrong information, this time by the financial aid office. First of all I was told I would be contacted by a rep and never was. After a couple days later, I had to call them back. I needed some very important paperwork and was told it was available to receive. After being on the road for hours, coming back from vacation, we went out of our way by at least 30-40 miles to the main campus to pick up the paperwork only to be told they didn't and could not obtain it. I was given the excuse "after so many years, it gets archived" and destroyed. Well to the best of my knowledge, ARCHIVED means it's ARCHIVED. They might not have it there, but it's ARCHIVED somewhere, RIGHT. Archived and destroyed are two different things. That type of incompetence led me to write this. My experience was worth at least one star… I guess. If you decide to go to this school, I wish you luck and hope you hav9e a better experience.Jimmy Leflouria

I have been going to Motlow for sometime . Motlow is an all around good school with fairly ok teachers but the people at the admissions and records desk are absolutely hateful and do not deserve a job helping people . They're suppose to be there for students and help them with their needs . That is their specific job . They talk to hateful to the students and do nothing to help them they do not take any time to even consider the people who are going there who may need help with something . They make ugly remarks to the students and talk terribly about you right to your face . Knowing they are able to help the students they choose to purposely ignore them or tell them false information . They send you around to many different people that work there and none are willing to even try for their students . Whoever hires the office people really need to look into how they're treating those people who are going there to further their education . They deserve to be fired . As well as the cafeteria . They smoke in the kitchen while kids are eating in the cafeteria and it smells the whole lunch room up . Not to mention they do not wash their hands while they're hiding in the kitchen smoking and when they come out they touch the students food and cook them . The staff who are not teachers there really need to be further investigated because this is unacceptable from all members of their team . I'm ashamed I even attended this school and graduated not to mention they would not allow me to walk because they failed to send out any emails to me of deadlines for that semester and when I went to go discuss it to them they said it was "doubtful" they could help me they did not even have enough caps and gowns for all the students who wanted to graduate and said they already had to many ceremonies to do because there was too many people graduating . I'm highly disrespected and glad they are able to even just give me my diploma since their students are "too much of a burden" when it is their job to help .Cc

I am very disappointed in the Smyrna Campus staff. I had a Admissions and Records office employee tell me that Motlow was now offering Fall graduation starting in Fall of 2019. So, what did I do…..I did not sign up for graduation this spring. I turned in my intent to graduate in the Fall 2019. I just got a call from the school to say that there is no graduation set for the Fall 2019….they were hoping it would happen but it will not…but the thing that really irritated me was the fact that she ask me did I understand……Yes, I understand that your staff people should not share with students falsehoods. One of the best places to work. Talk about amazing people superior staff and equipment and comparable pay. I absolutely love working for this company and would highly recommend them to transport critical needs. They have excellent training as well. I will give them to thumbs way up. I went here from September of 2018-May 2019. Classroom: My instructor didn’t really “teach” but was available if questions needed to be answered. It was quite a chilled and laidback classroom setting. Curriculum was easy to follow. The coursework was pretty much laid out. Breaks: I really liked that we had our own lunch area at the back of the classroom because, well, there was no way I was going to the main cafeteria with that crowd. These people would not clean up after themselves and were extremely loud and chaotic. No way. Environment: Most of my classmates were respectable peers, however, the students at this school have issues. If you are a decent person that keeps to herself, beware— bootmouth thots run amok and will hate on you for absolutely no reason, hints of racism from foreign students and domestic students will be apparent and students belonging to certain programs will stick their nose up at you. 100% not joking nor exaggerating. Social depravity at its finest. Student Services: Hit or miss. It can be super crowded in there during January, May, and September. Please don’t go during these times unless you want your paperwork “misplaced”. I have no real complaints other than some of the staff seem to be mentally lacking and this could be crucial for requesting your diploma, transcripts or waiting to receive your check disbursements. The employees here are very unprofessional and very much comfortable in doing whatever it is that they want they catch attitudes and make you jump through all kinds of hoops to get what you need. I was trying to get my test scores and as soon I finished testing I was told the test giver was gone for the day after 45 mins of raising suspicion and asking to speak with her boss she suddenly appears and gives me my test scores they speak to students here in a manner as if your incarcerated. Employees at this location lack proper etiquette when it comes to professionalism I tested at this location three times before I was informed that we could use a calculator for the math portion of test finally I pass the test when I used the calculator and was waiting on test scores so that I could sign up for classes in September at the covington location sadly I didn't make the deadline due to the test giver leaving for an hour and wasn't able to get all my paperwork in time for 2022 class year so I'll be attending classes fall of 2023 there needs to be an in-service given to the employes of tcat memphis on basic job responsibilities because you guys lack what it takes horriblyJAYE BURD

Seriously considering going anywhere else but tcat for education next semester. Idek what the curriculum is. Ive been in school for about a month. I havent learned anything useful. Cant buy school books because the schools certifying official went on vacation in the middle of certification. That lasted two weeks. Now that ive annoyed them into cooperation, apparently school funds and financial aid are late or have been pushed back due to my certification being processed late by the said certifying official. In addition to this Im being mislead by multiple tcat employees on fund availability. Online payment schedules havent been accurate. Im loosing bill money paying out of pocket and no school official ive talked to moves, genuinely cares, or helps unless i act out or until theres nothing they can do. The nursing program has become a joke. Literally if you talk to other surrounding schools about this program they laugh and say it’s ridiculous. They use a method of teaching called “reverse teaching” where they give the students hours upon hours of material and expect them to learn it ALL themselves. They give SO much material it’s impossible to cover it all and they won’t even tell you which parts are the most important. They hate giving any notes to help, they will only upload the PowerPoints once (if at all) and most of the time they’re messed up and they won’t fix it so the students just don’t get the information at all. When you come to class it’s basically just so they can answer any questions you might have but they get angry and nasty if you ask questions so there’s no point. They have you sit in class all day doing things like teaching the other students how to make origami as an example of “hands on/visual learning” but they don’t actually teach anything relevant to nursing in the actual classroom. The fall 2018 first semester students started out with about 80 students. Only about 23 made it to the second semester. Of the class in semester before that there are even less left. If you go upstairs and look at the photos of the graduating classes you’ll see that the classes get smaller and smaller because the program is getting worse and worse. The class can have a 74 average for a grade but because 2 or 3 students have an A they use that to justify why their methods are “successful” when the rest of the class is holding on by the skin of their teeth. They try to fudge their numbers by saying that 100% of their students pass their nursing exams but out of a class of 80 students they’ll be lucky to have 10 students left to graduate and even take the exam and the end at the rate this school is going. They like to conveniently leave that out. I HIGHLY recommend looking at other schools that don’t lie and don’t use reverse teaching and then try to blame the students for why it’s not working. They even had to INVITE students to come back or to join the program because it’s gotten so bad that not enough people are signing up but in the end all they want is your money so they can pay for their new buildings and equipment. Beginning my educational journey here for the second time May 29th and I've got to say I'm extremely excited. I've heard nothing but good things and the staff has really helped to make the process possible, as well as answering questions that no one else seemed to know or care to take the time to help me with. I look forward to spending the next 2-3 years here while furthering my education. Several friends have also attended school here and have had nothing but positive comments about their experiences. JSCC is what you make of it, really. Cheap tuition and it was very close to home for me. Students and professors vary. It's also crazy how limited the places to eat are, despite how long the campus has been around. Not going to point fingers, but I think some professors there are still learning, themselves and don't know how to break down the material for students. Which basically makes you your own teacher, while they're just there for the paycheck.You have to be motivated and know the major is right for you, or else you won't last too long.Lord Mandos
