11 Best Paramedic Programs In Madison, WI (2022 Updated)

I recently finished my second Technical degree for Metal Fabrication as a returning student. I delayed going back to school for years for lots of reasons, but mostly because I thought it would be as awful of an experience as High School was. Instead the teachers in my program were excellent. I was always challenged by the projects and supported in my learning in equal measure. If you're looking to get into welding or Metal Fabrication, these programs are career fields that need people, pay well, and you can learn them here! Don't sleep on the trade skills that can be taught here. Go to the open houses, see if these are things you're interested in doing. A 4 year degree isn't The guarantee of employment it used to be, but these one year Technical degrees, leading to in demand fields are.Travis H

Very nice tech college. Almost everyone you come across on campus can point you in the right direction. I just started school today online. But tomorrow I get to go to campus. It's a clean sanitary environment. There is currently some remodeling going on, so part of the building you cannot access… yet! AC was on, felt awesome. temperature didn't change much room to room either. All the employees seem to know their job very well and are willing to help. I chose Madison Area Technical College because I know many people that have graduated and successfully got into a job they wanted. This school is also smaller than UW Madison so I feel like the learning experience is better, more hands on, more participation versus a large school such as UW Madison.Shane Toycen

The good profs here are all just professors moonlighting from UW Madison, I'd honestly say you should apply to and go to literally any other UW system school before here. The quality of education isn't bad- but they somehow managed to misplace finances and put 650 bucks into collections randomly – without mailing me any notifications, and without a notifications on the online portal. You won't get competency from any of the administrative staff, expect 5 week long waits to see a counselor for any sort of urgent need. If you are a student with a disability – make sure you have additional copies of any medical documentation, they will claim to lose it. Most of the education staff despises the administrative staff and yeah, I can see why.Bee

Their care team is second to none. Staff is very knowledgeable. I have never in my life had such a pleasant experience with a hospital. I cannot think of one negative thing to point towards. You can tell they genuinely care about sending you down a path tailored to your specific needs. They emphasize having you as a “patient for life”, and how they’ll be there for you during pre-op, post-op, and any other follow ups you may require. The facilities are immaculate, people are kind and friendly, and they do everything possible to ensure your comfort. If issues, albeit small, had ever arose they were quick to amend them, and also apologetic in the same breath. Something you never typically find in most hospital systems. I would recommend UW Health to anyone and everyone. Always remember you get what YOU put in to your own healthcare. The staff, nurses, doctors, surgeons, so and so forth are there to provide you with the best possible outcome under the assumption that you’ll be putting forth your own maximum effort in your care plan. This team will provide you all the tools, options, and care available to provide you the healthiest life imaginable. It’s up to you on how you choose to utilize them. Be cognitive, and aware, of all that these individuals have been through the past couple of years. They deserve respect and admiration for what they have made it through. They’re compassionate individuals who only expect the common courtesy of being treated as human beings at times when it may be hard to control overwhelming emotions. Took my 78 year old Mother there twice. The first time they would not let me be with her at all, shoved her in a freezing cold room where there was literally nothing..just a room. She asked repeatedly for a blanket and never got one. Then I took her there again today because her right foot is red, swollen twice the normal size, and she can’t bear weight on it. We waited in a hallway with other patients who were moaning and crying in pain for three hours only for one nurse to come out and tell us we were released. Hadn’t seen a Dr, no clue what was wrong with her foot and when I mentioned that to the nurse her response was, oh..so you haven’t been seen by a Dr yet? As if all of that wasn’t bad enough they prescribed my mom a medication that she is SEVERELY allergic to! Had the Walgreens’ Pharmacist not caught it, my mom could have died from an allergic reaction. It is very clear that ER is for profit and not patient care. So disappointing.Dana Cowell

I've had two major reconstructive surgeries here and have had the best experience each time under the circumstances. My surgeon, Dr. Williams, is an amazing human and extremely talented. Her team is full of amazing individuals as well, Kiki is full of knowledge, Dr. Funk was so helpful, and My anesthesia team was perfect. My post opp was very comfortable, with help from Darrell and others, who were on point and even shared in some laughs. Also, the Techs and Nurses were so kind and prompt in any care I needed. My nurse Adam was the best and took care of me when all my pain was coming back after my nerve block wore off. Thank you all so much for making such a stressful experience an enjoyable one that I can look back on as a success.Tyler Hendrickson

Great teachers and students. I could really learn here. Often I hear that people flunk classes etc at other schools because they don't understand the material. However, at BTC, I was able to really grasp the concepts and further my education. Teachers are willing to help outside of class if need be as well. Only dislike is the Student Success required class…I'm a straight A student and feel this class should only be required if you have low grades or be an optional course. I have never had a bad experience with a teacher here. They are always well informed and good at explaining solutions in multiple ways. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is based on the fact that they like other colleges make you take some pretty useless classes. I really didn't learn anything from oral communications and that other class where all you do is 5 classes new student success. What a waste of time. The teacher was great though. The staff at Blackhawk Technical College will do whatever possible to help students (and potential students) with all personal achievements/goals. Blackhawk's instructional faculty is reputable & well-informed. Blackhawk now offers cost-free tutoring in a newly remodeled room, just for this purpose. This is an excellent tech school. I attend, and so does my son. My daughter will attend this Spring. I highly recommend Blackhawk Technical College!Saraj E. Stephenson

Union South, at the University of Wisconsin, is the place to be prior to UW home football games. The marching band makes an arrival about an hour before kickoff and showcases the incredible talents of one the country's best college bands. Enjoy a New Glarus Spotted Cow beer and loaded brat and you'll think you're in heaven. Well, maybe it's just Madison, but it's about as perfect it is gets. Then join the band for short march under the Camp Randall arch for a nostalgic walk into the home of the Badgers.Dave Chaimson

Very large campus, with I believe 35k students on average. The campus and it's buildings are very nice. Luckily, I visited before school started, so it wasn't busy at all. University of Wisconsin-Madison even has it's own ice cream shop! I believe that UWM runs it's own dairy. The path by the lake is also very beautiful, and I would recommend walking there. My only complaint is that everything seems to be very spread out, but that's a good way to get steps.Griffin May

Great school. The safest school. Beautiful lakeshore. Academic quality is very high. Very strong for sociology, psychology, education, biochem, chem, chem eng., etc. Good place for raising kids on campus for grad students. Strong sports, football, basketball, hockey, etc. Very very gentle people on and off campus. Nice city full of highly educated people. Best campus for bike riding. Top hospitals. The Emergency Medicine Residency Coordinator (Sarah Fallon) is very disorganized and rude. She refuses to answer questions and ignores emails, which makes the program look bad. I'd personally stay far away from here.Aditi Grover

I work on the outer square, right in between Capitol PD, Madison PD, Dane County Sheriff's Office, and on a main route for Meriter/St. Mary's Hospital and Madison Fire Department Station #1. I usually enjoy hearing sirens. I actually find them comforting, people are doing their jobs. It's a different when you never hear the sirens. I was already in an ambulance by the time I regained consciousness. All I know is that Madison Fire Department sent me a HIPAA disclosure, so they were obviously first on the scene. Keep up the good work..

I really liked firefighters until tonight. They were blocking my home and as I was nicely asking where I could go a tall guy with blond short hair “Shoowed “ me telling me to “get on” I was baffled! I fell recently and just could not get up. Felt bad about calling 911, but within minutes, 4 paramedics came to help. They were very kind and understanding and even helped reassure my sweet granddog. She and I were just finishing a walk. I appreciate their helpPaul Werth
